Hamlin, PA -Hamlin Speedway Halted By Heavy Strom After Five Features
Hamlin Speedway Promoters Randy and Denise Smith welcomed in another energetic group of racers on Saturday evening, bolstered by the first appearance of the 2018 edition of the 600 X-Cel Modifieds, as they tried valiantly to beat the rains with their second niight of their 2019 racing season at Hamlin Speedway. The racing was top notch all of the way in all divisions and another great crowd was on hand to witness the great season at the speedway. The Hamlin driving stars used all channels of the 1/5th mile clay cushioned attraction to keep the fans the fans on their feet throughout the evening of speed. They all came out to the Pocono Mountains to place their marks on the "Pearl of the Poconos" racing facility. The high flying racing action was sponsored by the good folks at S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Stroudsburg, PA. (www.ssspeedways.com). Five smiling winners found their way to the Hamlin Speedway Winners Circle at the end of the evening of racing action. The fove feature show was completed before the 11 PM curfew rolled around and the rain the weatherman was calling for hit the speedway.
The Saturday night action found "The Fighting Irishman" John Gilroy putting on a show stopping performance as he captured the Super Slinger feature in a wire to wire exhibition.. Kasey Hufcut captured the Amantea Real Estate Junior Slingshot event with a great run to the checkered flag for his second victory in a row. Alex Reinsmith held on for a great run in the opening event for the 270 Sprint division for his second win in succession.. Sonking Spring, Pennsylvania's Brian Blankenmiller was credited with capturing the X-Cel Modified event after the leaders of the race tangled with the checkered flag in sight. Carmen Leggio Sr put on a show all by himself as he, being the oldest driver in the division, put on all-out show stopping performaince to capture his first win ever at the Hamlin FAcility in the JPA Masonry Wingless 600 Rookie Sprint event.
The Super Slingshot feature event found John Gilroy unleashing the power on his hot rod and raced away from the field with impressive laps in his number 20 race car. Gilroy lapped all of the way up to fourth place in the event. Dale Kober rwas steady as the number two man on this evening with David Guest in third place, Greg Zellman in foiurth and Mark Exeter finishing out the top five. Jimmy Conroy and Paul Ennes finished up closely behind the top running cars.,
Kasey Hufcut raced into the lead at the start of the Amantea Real Estate Junior Slingshot event and would receive early pressure from Aidan Donaldson. Hufcut worked his way out to a full straigfhaway lead but had to jam on the brakes as troubles loomed out on t he spoeedway. When the racing went green again it was Hufcut out front and and he began to put lots of space once again on the field. Hufcut woulkd get the win with Donaldson in second place. Pauly Hartung, a newcomer to the speedway, was third in a nice run and he received lots of pressure from Doug Smith and RJ Sherman who completed the top five. Aidan Elliot, who was spun out in the early laps, came back to record a sixth place finish. Charlene BEnz, Chase Zimmer, Jacob Berman, and Ashton DeWitt completed the top ten finishers.
forward from a fifth starting position and quickly found the traffic more bearable at the top of the raceway and drove around Elliot and grabbed up the lead and walked away from the field from that point on. Hufcut would claim his first win of the season with Elliot in for runner-up honors and hard charging RJ Sherman third. Charlene Benz was fourth and Aiden Donaldson rounded out the top five. Heading up the second five were New Yorker Ashton DeWitt, with Jason Bierman, Doug Smith, James Hendricks and Isabella Van Orden following.
In the 270 Sprint feature event, Alex Reinsmith pulled out to a lead that Glenn Macomber just chased him the rest of the way.
On the JPA Masonry Rookie 600 Sprint event it would be the veteran driver Carmen Leggio Sr putting an end to a winless streak that lasted longer than Leggio would care to admit too. He took the lead at the strart of the event and had to hold back "The Whiz Kid" Jack Hanna each and everyt step of the way to gain the first win of his Hamlin Speedway career. Hnna was second with Dennis Chamberlain back in he mix for a third place run after an opening night triumph. Tony Parlanti raced hard up to fourth place with Ryan Lacoe nailing down a top five finish. Newcomer Justin Newhard was sixth with another newcomer Megan Rochelle in seventh, Jacob Eby in eighth, Brett Kern in ninth place and Jordan Nemeth settling for tenth.
In the 20-lap event for the X-Cel Modifieds Tyler Smith lead early and swapped the lead back and forth with Matt Warner in the early stages of the event. Brian Blankenmiller was resting in third place when the two leaders got together and Blamkemiller walked in to the win.
Ray Gradwell was second with Jarret Sechrist in third, T32 of Kyle Fallis in fourth, and Korey Inglin fifth. Nolan Smith was credited with sxith place while the remainder of the top ten included Geoff Sutton, Travis Fichter, Grany Schibilia, and Heath Machamer.,
PEARL JAMS:
Kudos to Randy Smith for an excellent track surface that once again found the drivers utilizing the many racing channels throughout the evening of competition. Additional time was taken to keep the track surface smooth and tacky throughout the evening of speed. especially after the rains showed up to cause some additional havoc.
The Super Slingshot heat found Greg Zellman returning to action with a victory in the heat action. Rookie 600 Sprint heats were claimed by Ryan Lacoe and Jacob Eby. Kasey Hufcut and RJ Sherman countered with wins. in the Junior Slingshots. Alex Reinsmith won the lone 270 Sprint heat. Joel Price and Adam Buchel were the heat winners in the Stage One Modifieds. TYlor Mills and Wes Hearn captured the heat wins for the All Star Slingshots. JPA Masonry Wingless Heats were captured by Joseph Smith and Cody Smith, making it a big night for family pride

While waiting out the rain, Announcer Steve Pados did an interview with one of the driving stras of the Stage One Modifieds heat winners with Joel Price. Pados was also able to interview with X-Cell SEries Promoter Doug Borger and his plan of attack for his series as they come to a track near all of you. Go out and see them compete, you will be glad you did.

RAIN STOPS WALL STADIUM ON SATURDAY (MAY 11), MOD TOUR UP NEXT
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ With qualifying completed, a combination of two early evening on track accidents and the resulting clean ups and scattered showers which soon became steady rain forced Wall Stadium Speedway officials to wash out the scheduled Saturday night (May 11) feature events. Saturday ticket stubs will be honored for any regular racing program, which does not include this Saturday's NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event or the June 8 Formula Drift event, for example.
Next on the agenda is the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour 150 on Saturday, May 18. Tickets and pit passes are now available online only at www.wallspeedwayracing.com. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the track starting at 1:00 p.m. on the day of the event.
On Saturday gates will open at 2:00 p.m., with practice at 2:15 p.m., qualifying at 5:45 p.m. and feature races starting at 7:00 p.m. In addition to the 150 lap Tour Modified Main Event, the Center State Engineering Sportsman cars, the O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stocks and the Surfside Collision 4Cylinder Stocks will all see action in 25-lap races.
Saturday night racing action then continues through early October with schedule details at www.wallspeedwayracing.com.

PAPIEZ PILOTS HIS MODIFIED TO VICTORY LANE AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY
New Egypt, NJ (May 12, 2019) – At New Egypt Speedway’s Bordentown/Chesterfield Night, Brian Papiez piloted his ride into victory lane as he won the Vahlco Wheels Modified feature. JT Trstensky was declared the winner in the Hammer Sportsman race. The Larry's Hot Rods & Harley's Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars main event was claimed by Rich Mellor. Jon Meyer won the Street Stock contest while DJ Hunt took top honors in the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman race.
As the 30-lap Vahlco Wheel Modified feature began, outside polesitter Brian Papiez sprinted out to the front. After a quartet of caution periods and six tours recorded, Papiez was still on top with TJ Lilly, fourteenth place starter Billy Pauch Jr. and PJ Oliver next in line. By lap ten, Papiez had built a solid advantage over Lilly and Pauch Jr. with Danny Bouc advancing into fourth and Oliver falling back into fifth. At the halfway point, Papiez’s margin was nearly a full-straightaway over Lilly, Pauch Jr., Bouc and David VanHorn. With seven circuits remaining, Papiez was beginning to approach the tail end of the field with Lilly and Pauch Jr. dueling for second. On lap twenty-six, Pauch Jr. swung by Lilly to gain second place. Over the final revolutions, Papiez continued his torrid pace to grab his second win of the season. Pauch Jr. captured the runner-up position. Bouc and VanHorn were able to pass Lilly as well in the closing laps to finish third and fourth respectively. Lilly finished in fifth. Cale Ross, Brian Papiez and Danny Bouc were victors in the Vahlco Wheels Modified heat races.
In the rain shortened Hammer Sportsman feature, JT Trstensky was declared the winner of the 12-lap affair. Ryan Heim crossed the line finish line first but his car failed to make the minimum weight. The victory was the second of Trstensky’s career. David Burns took second place. Will Trstensky, Steve Davis and Joseph Brown filled out the top five. Jason Kosch and Art Liedl won the Hammer Sportsman heat races.
In the 20-lap main event for the Larry's Hot Rods & Harley's Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, Rich Mellor held off John Brammell on a final tour restart to claim his second checkered flag of the season. Mellor took the lead from Jermain Godshall with five circuits left. With Brammell finishing second, Heidi Hedin came home in third. Duane Nixon was fourth and Stan Ploski completed the race in fifth. The Larry's Hot Rods & Harley's Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars qualifying races were taken by Rich Mellor and Al Cheney.
Jon Meyer passed Bill Liedtka with five circuits remaining and led the remaining distance to grab the victory in the 15-lap Street Stock race. The win was the second in a row for Meyer. With Liedtka taking second, Vern McLaughlin came home in third. Billy Wroble and Brian Ludwig rounded out the top five.
DJ Hunt led from start to finish to capture his first win in the 8-lap Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman race. Ryan Godown Jr. slipped by Anthony Tramontana Jr. on the last circuit to take the runner-up spot. Ryan Krushinski was fourth and Zachary Merola finished fifth.
On Saturday, May 18, Jeep Night rides into New Egypt Speedway. Jeep owners will be admitted to the main grandstand for half-price and can participate in a Jeep show and parade. On the track, the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds, Larry's Hot Rods & Harley's Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, Crate Modifieds, Mike’s Performance 4-Cylinders and the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman will be in competition. The pit gates swing open at 3:00 p.m. and the grandstand ticket window opens at 4:00 p.m. Hot laps start at 5:00 p.m. with the first green flag waving at 6:00 p.m. Admission to the grandstand is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for teens 12-15, $10 for military personal and their spouses with ID, and Kids 11 & under are FREE. Pit admission is $30 with a New Egypt Speedway license and $40 without.

BROWN BANKS DOMINATING POWRi NATIONAL MIDGET VICTORY AT BELLE-CLAIR
BELLEVILLE, ILL. (May 10, 2019) - Leading from start-to-finish, Austin Brown of nearby Millstadt, Illinois was the hometown hero on Friday night as he dominated Belle-Clair Speedway for an impressive triumph in the 28th annual "Knepper Memorial." The wire-to-wire score aboard his BOSS Chassis, Toyota Racing No. 17 marked the fifth-career POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League victory for Brown.
Earning the pole position via a strong sixth-to-first heat race win, Brown took the green flag for the 30-lapper with 16-year old Cannon McIntosh of Bixby, Oklahoma to his outside in the Dave Mac Motorsports, Spike/Toyota No. 08. Brown immediately shot to the lead as McIntosh fell back and three-time POWRi Midgets champion, Zach Daum, moved into second aboard his Daum Motorsports, Eagle/Toyota No. 5D.
With lap traffic looming, Daum and Tucker Klaasmeyer, the defending Knepper Memorial winner, were hot on the heels of Brown and ready to challenge. However, a lap 11 caution bunched the field back up and allowed Brown to sneak away while a frenzy ensued behind him with Daum, Klaasmeyer, McIntosh, and Carrick all squaring off.
Brown continued to pace the field while the battle raged for second with multiple position swaps between Daum and McIntosh. A red flag for top-ten running Tyler Thomas on lap 24 followed by a three-car tangle on the final lap between Tucker Klaasmeyer, Logan Seavey and Tanner Carrick shuffled the line up in the late stages.
On the final green-white-checkered restart, Brown quickly pulled away while Daum and McIntosh's battle reached the boiling point. As Brown came out of turn four to take the double checkered flags, Daum and McIntosh collided and tangled at the apex, both halting to a stop and bringing a chaotic conclusion to the 30-lapper.
Nonetheless, it was Austin Brown's night, as the native of nearby Millstadt, Illinois picked up his fifth-career POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League victory in dominating fashion. As he climbed atop the BOSS/Toyota No. 17 following his wire-to-wire run, a standing ovation and roaring applause greeted the new winner of the "Knepper Memorial."
Escaping the wreckage of the final corner and leaving with a career-best second-place finish was California's Jesse Colwell aboard the Keith Kunz Motorsports, KKM Giveback Classic, Bullet/Toyota No. 71. Rounding out the podium with another career-best finish was Oklahoma's Ace McCarthy, who hauled from 17th-to-third in the Jim Neuman Racing, Two-Eight Drilling No. 28.
Finishing fourth-from-16th was Oklahoma's Kaylee Bryson in the Dave Mac Motorsports, Spike/Toyota No. 11B and taking fifth-from-21st was Jake Neuman of New Berlin, Illinois in his No. 3N entry. Closing out the top ten at Belle-Clair was Nick Hoffman making his POWRi debut in sixth, rookie Daison Pursley claiming a solid seventh, Nick Knepper nabbing an eighth, Presley Truedson charging to ninth, and Chance Morton moving from 23rd-to-tenth.
Tomorrow night, the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League marches on to the "Mighty" Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois. Donny Schatz claims second win of 2019 at Eldora Speedway
ROSSBURG, OH – May 10, 2019 – Donny Schatz said he has nothing to prove to anyone.
But after leading every lap and winning the caution free 30-lap World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Feature at Eldora Speedway Friday night, he proved he’s still a dominating threat.
“I’m not done,” a jubilated Schatz said after winning his second race of the season – 285th Series win overall.
Schatz, in his Tony Stewart Racing car, swept the May #LetsRaceTwo doubleheader at Eldora Speedway last year, which at that time was his seventh and eighth wins of the year. However, Schatz has a new crew chief this year – after his former Crew Chief Ricky Warner, who he spent most of his career with, went to work for Ford.
The 10-time Series champion doesn’t point any fingers at the crew chief change for the lack of comparison to last year’s performance. There’s a multitude of changes to take into consideration.
“We’ve got a pretty good play book we’ve had over the years, but things change,” Schatz said. “Tires change. Cars change. The ways guys race change, so you’ve got to stay on the front side of it. That’s what we’ve been working on the past couple of months. I feel like we’ve figured out what we need to do to get things right for us. I’m happy about that and hopefully we can keep that to ourselves and not have to race against it.”
Friday night’s win won’t define the rest of his season, though.
“You can’t gauge anything off of one race,” Schatz said. “It’s just the way racing is. You make changes and you have to battle through it. If this was easy everybody would do it. Look at the stats over the past 10 or 12 years. You’ll see what the stats say.”
The stats of night one of #LetsRaceTwo at Eldora Speedway show Schatz dominated the Feature, leading every lap from the pole, but Logan Schuchart and rookie Carson Macedo didn’t let Schatz cruise to an easy win.
When the green flag flew, Schatz launched to the lead, with Macedo close behind. While Schatz rode the inside line, Macedo threw his car to the high side. The rookie, in his Kyle Larson Racing car, charged on the outside like a starving predator in pursuit of an innocent prey.
By the time the two reached turn one for the second time, Macedo had already hurled his car underneath Schatz and cleared him by the apex. However, his momentum drew him back to the wall, allowing Schatz to ease underneath him and reclaim the lead.
“I thought when I was throwing stuff at him (Schatz) at the beginning, and I was kind of able to maintain after that, I thought maybe if we get to traffic, maybe I could make a move,” said Macedo, who settled for third. “But Donny is just exceptional. I didn’t pull the trigger when I probably should have. Just my fault. Something I need to work on as a driver. To win these World of Outlaws races, you just can’t do that.”
After Macedo’s attempt to steal the champion’s lead, Schatz set sail showing his expertise on the track he’s won at more than 10 times. No matter if he had to go high or go low, Schatz could put his car wherever he needed to navigating lap traffic.
Slower cars would block his chosen lane at times, killing his momentum. That allowed the hard charging Schuchart to further close on Schatz every lap. Schuchart, who finished second to Schatz during both nights of last year’s #LetsRaceTwo doubleheader, was determined to finish one spot better this year.
With about four laps to go, Schuchart close to a car length behind Schatz. The Shark Racing No. 1a was in sight for its third win of the season. But like Schatz, a lap car killed Schuchart’s momentum and ended his chance for a second win at the speedway.
“I was following a car on the top and he hit the wall and I had to check up pretty good there,” said runner-up Schuchart. “All and all I thought it was a good race. I think we actually fell to sixth at the beginning and had to work our way back up there. I think we had the car to beat and the fastest race car. I hope we can come back tomorrow and get another shot at it.”
While Schatz had command of the race all night, there was still a lot going through his head on what he needed to do and look out for to secure the victory.
“Over the course of the run, you start to lose a little bit and lose a little bit,” Schatz said. “And you use your tires. This place is always a question on fuel. You’ve got to be cautious on the gas, too, for being able to make the distance. We didn’t have any yellows, thank goodness. That’s another thing you have to take into play. You think about those things when you’re leading.”
He added the hardest thing to do is lead a race, and he hasn’t done a lot of that this year -- just 14 laps before Friday night's race.
He’s still having fun, though.
“I’ve won every race I’ve wanted to win,” said Schatz, who now leads the Series standings by 14 points over Brad Sweet. “Everything from here is gravy. I’m racing the way I want. I’m racing with the people I want, and we’re having a good time.
“The funny thing about the sport is, if you can have a fun time when you’re not winning, when you are winning it’s going to be really good. That’s where we’re at.”
He has nothing left to prove. But that won’t stop him from continuing to be a dominate threat.

CONVINCING COURTNEY CRUSHES ELDORA FIELD

Rossburg, Ohio (May 11, 2019).........Over the past two seasons, Tyler Courtney has experienced the feeling of winning in all three of USAC's National divisions at Eldora Speedway.
Perhaps none of those performances were as impressive as the one the Indianapolis, Ind. driver turned in during Friday's night one of the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship portion of #LetsRaceTwo.
Courtney didn't bat an eye having to start from the inside of row four, charging to the front of the field in rapid-fire succession to the point by lap six with a turn one slider on Kevin Thomas, Jr. From there, Courtney staged a disappearing act from everyone second on back, winning by a whopping 8.704 seconds and lapping up to seventh place.
"We kind of got behind the eight-ball starting seventh there," Courtney explained. "You've got to get your way to the front early and we were fortunate enough to have a really good car. With (crew chief Tyler Ransbottom) on the wrenches, I had one spot-on racecar and that made my job pretty easy."
Right from the get-go, Courtney was on a mission, which was briefly halted following a turn four flip on lap three by Dave Darland, who eventually walked away after the rough and tumble ride into the catch fence.
Following the restart, Courtney put his Clauson-Marshall-Newman Racing/NOS Energy Drink - Competition Suspension, Inc./Spike/Rider Chevy up top, racing around Carson Short for second on the fourth circuit, then set forth to challenge Thomas for the race lead.
It didn't take long for Courtney to rope Thomas in, as he sized Thomas up coming to the stripe at the completion of lap five before diving low at the entrance to turn one, sliding up and securing the spot. Thomas took a run back at Courtney in turn three a half lap later to no avail as Courtney extended his rapidly-growing advantage to 2.5 seconds with a third of the race in arrears.
Courtney's interval was wiped clean and re-racked when five-time Eldora USAC winner Robert Ballou slowed coming off turn two while running eighth. His machine limped to the turn four pit entrance, stopping just shy, bringing out the second and final stoppage of the evening.

Courtney slid himself into turn one on the ensuing restart, closing the curtain on any thought of an attempted slider from Thomas. Courtney powered away and took command of a full-straightaway lead past the halfway mark of the 30-lapper.
Fatheadz Eyewear Fast Qualifier C.J. Leary and Thomas exchanged the second position multiple times before Leary limbo'd by Thomas on the bottom of turn three on the 18th lap. Thomas contested the spot before Leary ultimately cleared Thomas for the runner-up position on the high side between turns one and two. Brady Bacon mimicked Leary's tactic one lap later to snare third.
Courtney continued to gain ground as the interval increased lap-by-lap while slicing between the lapped cars of Nick Bilbee and Matt Westfall in turn one on the 22nd lap. Courtney drove into the top-ten late in the going, albeit an entire lap ahead of them, with no indication of showing any mercy.
"This is Eldora. You can't relax here," Courtney reiterated. "You've got to get up on the wheel every lap because, if not, this place will bite you. It's done it to me before. This is a place you can't slack off for 30 laps."
With two to go, Courtney drove by eighth place Justin Grant and was closing in on Chase Stockon in seventh and Thomas and sixth when the checkered fell for the defending series champ. Behind Courtney at the line were new point leader Leary in second, followed by Bacon, Chris Windom and Short.
Courtney's 18th career series win was his first of the season and moved him into sole possession of 28th on the all-time list, surpassing Jerry Coons, Jr., Parnelli Jones and Bud Kaeding.
