FINAL HOOSIER HUNDRED AT THE INDY MILE TO BE HELD MAY 23
Indianapolis, Indiana (April 2, 2019).........The Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center has announced that the Indiana State Fairgrounds one-mile dirt track will be converted from a dirt surface to an all-weather track made of crushed limestone to be utilized for year-round harness training and parking for the Indiana State Fair.
The ultimate impact is that the conversion of the surface means that auto racing events will no longer be held on the famed one-mile track following the 2019 Hoosier Hundred. The 64th running of the 100-mile, 100-lap race, scheduled for Thursday, May 23, will be the last running of this grand racing event at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
"USAC, Track Enterprises, Bob Sargent and I have been in meetings with the Fairgrounds staff and in discussion for the last two years about any way to keep auto racing at the historic one-mile oval," USAC Series Coordinator Levi Jones explained. "To no avail, the economics of the horse industry and their desire to use the one-mile track year-round instead of the half-mile currently in the infield won out in the end."
USAC and Track Enterprises are currently exploring possible venues that could host the Hoosier Hundred for the 2020 season and beyond.
The history of the Track of Champions dates back well over a century. On June 20, 1903, Barney Oldfield drove a Henry Ford-designed "999" to the first sub-one-minute lap ever on a one-mile racetrack at 59.6 seconds. In 1917, Oldfield, the 1905 AAA National Champion, prevailed in a match race versus 1915 Indianapolis 500 winner Ralph DePalma.
In 1946, under the AAA National Championship banner, the one and only "Indianapolis 100" was held, with Rex Mays taking the victory. Seven years later, in 1953, a new, long-lasting tradition began with the inaugural running of the "Hoosier Hundred" won by Bob Sweikert.
The Hoosier Hundred has been held annually since 1953, with only a handful of interruptions due to inclement weather. Today, it remains one of the oldest, most tradition-rich racing events on the planet. Many of its winners have gone to achieve legendary status in auto racing with a list that includes A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti who are among the seven drivers to have won both the Hoosier Hundred and the Indianapolis 500 in their careers along with Bob Sweikert, Jimmy Bryan, Rodger Ward, Parnelli Jones and Al Unser.
This year, Kingsburg, California's Kody Swanson has an opportunity to make even more history as he aims for an unprecedented fifth-straight "Hoosier Hundred" victory. The four-time USAC Silver Crown titlist has won the previous four events to tie Unser's streak of four-straight "Hoosier Hundred" wins between 1970-73.
Over the years, the Indy Mile has been home to a myriad of USAC racing events, including Sprint Car, Midget and Stock Car races. In the early-1980s, the "Hulman Hundred" for Silver Crown cars was created, which was added to the schedule as a second annual race for the series at the track each year from 1981-1995.
The "Hulman Hundred" was annually held in May while the Hoosier Hundred was scheduled for September in that era, until 1996 when the Hulman Hundred was discontinued. The Hoosier Hundred then moved to May where it remains today, except for a couple rainouts in the early 2000s that were rescheduled for later that same year.
On Thursday, May 23, be a part of history and witness this great race. "Hoosier Hundred" pit gates will open at noon Eastern, with the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand opening at 3pm and practice at 5. Racing begins for the Modifieds at 6 with Silver Crown Qualifying races to follow and the "Hoosier 100" scheduled for an 8 o'clock green flag.
Reserved seating is available for the Hoosier Hundred by calling the Track Enterprises office at (217) 764-3200, the Indiana State Fairgrounds Box Office, or through Ticketmaster. Reserved seats for adults are being sold for $25 pre-sale or $30 at the gate. Infield tickets will be available for $15 for adults and $5 for kids 11 and under.

FREE GRANDSTAND SEATING FOR WALL STADIUM SATURDAY (APR. 6) PRACTICE
WALL, N.J. ~ Stock car racers will have their final opportunity before opening night to test their new and rebuilt creations this Saturday, April 6, as Wall Stadium Speedway hosts a paid practice session. Although there is a fee for competitors to participate, fans are welcome into the grandstands free of charge.
On Saturday, April 6, competitor pit area gates will open at 9:00 a.m. before a special “rookie practice session” begins at 10:00 a.m. All cars will then be welcome to test and tune from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Grandstand seating will open at 11:00 a.m.
The speedway office will be open on Saturday so that competitors can obtain racing licenses and complete needed forms before opening night. The speedway office is also be open weekdays so that race teams and fans can get ready for the season early. In addition, the 2019 schedule, rules and registration forms can be downloaded at www.wallspeedwayracing.com.
Once Saturday' practice is complete Wall Stadium Speedway’s regular season will open on Saturday night, April 13, with all divisions in racing action. The Modifieds are set for an opening night 40-lapper, while the Sportsmen cars, the Factory Stocks, 4 Cylinder Stocks, Limited Late Models and the Legend Cars will all race in 25-lap main events.
Another afternoon practice session is then set for April 20 as the speedway suspends racing that weekend in observance of Easter. Saturday night racing will then resume on April 27. A big event on the schedule is set for May 18 as the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour visits the speedway for a 150-lap Saturday night main event.

Texan Reutzel Dominates Every Phase of Perris SoCal Showdown
PERRIS, CA – MARCH 30, 2019 – Aaron Reutzel wrote an eloquent ending to the eventful and riveting story of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series’ California swing, ending it Saturday night in similar fashion to how it began.
Last year’s Rookie of the Year Ian Madsen opened the swing in early March at Thunderbowl Raceway — where Reutzel won his first ever World of Outlaws race last year during the swing — winning everything he could: fastest in practice, Quick Time, Heat win, drew the pole for the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, won the Dash, lead every lap in the Feature and won it.
Reutzel did exactly the same at the half-mile Perris Auto Speedway. He was fastest in practice. Quick Time. Won his Heat race. Drew the pole for the Dash. Won the Dash. Lead every lap in the 30-lap Feature and claimed his second World of Outlaws win at the SoCal Showdown.
“Unbelievable,” the Clute, Texas native said, having to pause afterward, as if to try and grasp the dominance himself.
Coming into the Perris race, Reutzel had a top-five and two top-10 finishes in the California swing and sat seventh in Series points, ahead of full-time World of Outlaws drivers such as Shane Stewart and Madsen. But to Reutzel, he was having a terrible year and it was time for a change.
He and his Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports team made one the morning of the race. It worked.
“We just went back to everything we were doing last year,” Reutzel said. “We just made one little change and it made the difference.”
That little change; ditching a newly built car to put an old car back together.
“There’s nothing different between them,” Reutzel said. “Sometimes you just get a car that doesn’t work, and that might have been one that doesn’t work. Everything else exactly them same. It just worked out for us.”
With the car he’s been running, Reutzel said it felt like he and his team were always playing catch up when it came to the Feature and could never qualify well anymore.
“That’s something you can’t do with these (World of Outlaws) guys,” Reutzel said.
Now, his confidence is back. It showed on track, holding off two California natives who grew up racing on the California swing tracks — rookie Carson Macedo and Rico Abreu.
In the early stage of the Feature, Macedo presented himself as a possible threat to Reutzel, inching in on him lap after lap. After an early red flag, for a flip involving Brent Marks, Reutzel had his biggest challenge yet with Macedo starting next to him and Abreu behind them. But when the green flag dropped, Macedo and Abreu were left trading slide jobs to determine who would finish second while Reutzel sailed away. It was the same story with on another restart a couple of laps later.
“I felt like I had a couple of runs at him on a couple of restarts, and it just seemed like… It’s just the way it went,” said Macedo, who finished second. “Aaron did a good job all night. I felt like we had a good race car. I felt like we had a good package all night.”
Macedo has had one of the best California swings out of all full-time World of Outlaws drivers, having finished in the top-10 in all five races and got his first win of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway.
“We’re having a lot of fun right now,” Macedo said. “We’re putting good runs up on the board and that’s what it’s all about with the Outlaws.”
In line with Macedo and Madsen, Reutzel is the eighth different winner this year in the past nine races. And even though it’s his second ever Series win, it’s still as special as the first.
“Whether you have 100 (wins) or your Donny Schatz getting another one or me getting my second one, just winning an Outlaw race is huge in general,” Reutzel said. “It feels really good to get it.”
Reutzel’s win closes the story of the 2019 World of Outlaws Spring Break California swing, but the Series continues next weekend on Friday, April 5, for the Wildcat Shootout at USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz. and on Saturday, April 6, for the Arizona Desert Shootout at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz.
The Texan’s next chapter with the World of Outlaws will begin in May at Eldora Speedway.

Gravel rides low groove to victory for Jason Johnson Racing’s first World of Outlaws win since Johnson’s death
HANFORD, CA – MARCH 29, 2019 – Nothing was going to stop David Gravel from jumping out of his car.
Out of breath with a wide grin on his face, he high-fived and hugged his crew members while en route to a bath of confetti when he stood on the back of his car and pointed to the sky.
Not only was he celebrating his first win of the season at Keller Auto Speedway, his 40th World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win and his first win with his new Jason Johnson Racing team, he honored the man whose car he drives.
This is the first win for the Jason Johnson Racing team since co-owner and driver Jason Johnson died in a crash last June at Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin.
“It’s definitely special,” said Gravel, almost lost for words.
The start of his night did not signal a potential victory, with the luck of the draw sending him out last for qualifying. He managed a 15th-place qualifying effort on a track several drivers called “tricky” due to its slick condition.
It didn’t take long for Gravel to figure out the trick, winning his Heat race.
“It really set us up for the rest of the night,” Gravel said. “I knew the bottom was going to be a factor.”
Gravel’s crew chief, Philip Dietz, said Gravel called his shot before the Feature. He was going to stick to the bottom until he figured it out. And he did.
Starting from the pole, Sheldon Haudenschild shot to the early lead of the Feature, riding the high side of the slick track. While he led, the hoard of drivers behind him were rarely in the same lane or position lap after lap. They tried high. They tried low. Wherever there was grip, they made sure to use up every inch of it.
Closing in on halfway through the 35-lap Feature, the bottom proved to be the preferred line of choice. Shane Stewart, who faced heart-break last race at the Stockton Dirt Track after blowing a tire while leading with five laps to go, looked to have his sight set on redemption, reeling in the 2017 Rookie of the Year.
Stewart took the lead on lap 20, but his hope for redemption was short lived as Gravel had been working the bottom of the track to perfection and was not far behind. He took the lead from Stewart – driving for Gravel’s former team, CJB Motorsports – two laps later.
“Honestly, I just didn’t have the patients to run the bottom in turns 1 and 2,” said Stewart, who ended up third. “Driver instincts, you just don’t know what to do at times. Once David went by me, I tried to run the bottom again, and missed it a couple of times. I thought I should get back up to the top and then (Daryn) Pittman got me.”
Pittman, who extended his points lead over second-place Donny Schatz to 12 points by finishing second, was still all smiles after his third runner-up finish of the year.
“I would have never guessed from the beginning of that race that we would be just putting around the bottom,” Pittman said. “We were not set up for that at all. I honestly thought the top would stay dominate. It never crossed my mind that we would be running the bottom.”
Like he planned it himself, Gravel said he knew other drivers would burn off the top of the track and the bottom would be the dominate line. He just had to stay patient enough to remain there throughout the race.
Although he did go to the top one lap, but he said that was only because the bottom was crowded. He ran his race.
“I was just trying to run my line,” Gravel said. “I knew if I missed up one corner and was still in the lead, I knew I wouldn’t have gotten passed if I just hit my marks after that. Luckily we were able to hang on and win.”
It was a special win to him and his crew.
“It’s definitely different,” said Tyler Elliott, the car chief for the Jason Johnson Racing team. “It’s not the same. But it’s exciting. Overwhelming.”
After three races in-a-row without a top-10 finish, Elliot said the win is well needed.
Dietz added its “definitely an emotional night” for the team.
“This is one track we’ve struggled at over the years,” he said. “We knew we had to up our game when we came in tonight. To go out and pick up a win for JJR and all of our sponsors, you know, we couldn’t ask for a better night."
Nothing was going to stop Dietz and the Jason Johnson team from celebrating in Victory Lane with an out of breath and wide grinning Gravel.
The Series will wrap up its Spring Break tour through California Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - Backing up a dominant performance from the previous night, Logan Seavey doubled down and took a second consecutive Turnpike Challenge victory. Seavey's second Turnpike Challenge POWRi Lucas Oil National & West Midget League victory came again at I-44 Riverside Speedway.
Starting inside the second row behind Cannon McIntosh and Jerry Coons, Jr., Seavey fell in behind Jerry Coons at the start of the race. Coons, Jr. looked to have the upper hand early on until coming up on lap traffic in which Ace McCarthy spun and Coons, Jr. took a direct hit, crushing his hopes of a Turnpike Challenge victory.
Benefitting from Coons, Jr.'s misfortune, Seavey took command of the top position and never looked back. Shortly after midway, a strong Tyler Thomas moved into the second position with Christopher Bell in tow. A much different night than last night for Thomas, switching to a backup machine paid dividends to the Oklahoman, as he was able to not only place on the podium, but also fend off Christopher Bell's advances for the second position.
Bell was forced to settle for second as Thomas took second behind Seavey, while Tucker Klaasmeyer improved one position from the previous night to take fourth. Jake Neuman finished fifth.
"Being that tonight was a lot smoother than last night, I didn't have to work so hard to get up front in the feature," commented Logan Seavey. "Once we got up front, this thing was just so good. Another really physical race track, you're out of breath bouncing through the holes. It makes it really fun, gives it a lot of character. I can't thank the KKM team for the opportunity and Toyota and Mobil 1 for backing me. It's always fun when you can race your teammates close like that. I knew I just couldn't make mistakes."
"It feels really good," stated Tyler Thomas. "After last night we didn't feel like we were as strong as we could be. It's uncharacteristic for us run in the back like that so we decided to make a change with the car and pull the backup down and it was obviously the right decision. My dad did a really good job setting it up tonight and this Toyota power plant was really good. Spike Chassis, Advanced Racing Suspensions, Engler Machine and Tool, all these guys help us run up front."
"It was tough," said Christopher Bell. "Obviously the beginning of the night didn't go as planned. The track was really tough. It got pretty rough getting into turn one. It made it interesting. Thank you to the fans for coming out and hopefully we put a good show on tomorrow."
