TRENTON, NJ February 4, 2019 . . . Indoor Auto Racing Championship Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels officials announced late Friday afternoon that the results of the NAPA AUTO PARTS Atlantic City Gambler’s Classic race held inside Boardwalk Hall on Saturday, January 26th have been certified.
Hoosier Tires off several TQ Midgets were tested by Blue Ridge Laboratories in North Carolina, a firm that specializes in chemical analysis and the detection of chemical alternations and all were deemed legal. The results are now official with Andy Jankowiak of Buffalo, N.Y. the race winner. A check of $5,950, which includes bonus awards, was mailed to him on Friday.
Jankowiak’s right rear and right front tire was sampled after his Saturday night victory and after he set the third fastest time trial on Friday afternoon.
Samples were also taken from fast time trialer Erick Rudolph and second fast time trialer Anthony Sesely. Also sampled was the car of Friday night A-Qualifier winner Tommy Catalano who was randomly selected after setting the 28th fastest time.
Series officials tested tires for the first time this year after making chemical alterations in advance illegal. Tires tested from the series opener in Allentown, Pa. also passed. Results of the testing will be posted on indoorautoracing.com as per series rules. Along with samples being taken, a durometer test was made of tires on each car prior to time trials to check for irregularity.
The 2019 series wraps up in Syracuse, NY with the fourth and fifth round. The event will be held inside the recently opened New York State Fairgrounds Exposition Center with two complete shows on Friday and Saturday nights, March 8th and 9th. The countdown continues for the upcoming 2019 edition of the Twelfth Annual Quaker Steak & Lube Dirt Track Heroes Show and another sponsor has signed on for the event in what is projected to be another successful gathering of the past, present and future of auto racing as they all join forces together under one roof in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. Tony Stewart dominates final night of All Star action at Bubba Raceway Park
OCALA, Fla. (February 2, 2019) - Despite an early afternoon rain shower nearly terminating the third and final night of Winter Nationals competition featuring the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1, the show went on and so did Tony Stewart, eventually dominating the entire program for a fourth-ever All Star main event win, as well as a $5,000 top prize. It was Stewart’s first-ever All Star victory at Bubba Raceway Park.
Stewart, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/No. 14 sprint car, started from the pole position and led all 30 circuits around Bubba Raceway Park, lapping nearly half of the 24 feature starters. On top of a dominating feature performance, Smoke kicked off the evening program with a heat race victory and a dash victory, ultimately setting up his main event starting position.
“This definitely feels great. We have our friends from Sage Fruit and Rush Truck Centers watching so to get a win for those guys is really special. I felt like I let one get away the other night. I’m still not sure what I did wrong, but we let that one get away,” Tony Stewart said in Bubba Raceway Park victory lane. “This thing has been fast all weekend. We really didn’t qualify that well tonight, but it put us on the pole of a heat race and that’s where you need to be for these races. I have a lot of great help and I wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”
Not even lapped traffic gave Stewart a stir, actually separating himself from second place running Lucas Wolfe by nearly eight seconds through the midpoint of the main event. Unfortunately for Stewart, the second and final caution, appearing on lap 25, ended his commanding lead, eventually setting up a six lap dash to the checkers. Despite a slight slip off of turn four, nothing was stopping the former three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion from attaining his first sprint car win of the season.
“We were actually a little too tight, believe it or not, which made things a little difficult for us,” Tony Stewart continued. “That’s the thing about Bubba Raceway Park; you won’t find another race track in the world that is shaped like this, which sets up a lot of unique passing opportunities. You kinda have to watch traffic for a few laps before you get to those guys so you know how to get around them.”
Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania’s Lucas Wolfe finished second to close out the weekend in Ocala, followed by Paul McMahan, Mark Smith, and the winner of the Thursday and Friday programs, Tim Shaffer.
All Star teams will now make their way east across Route 40 and visit Volusia Speedway Park for DIRTcar Nationals competition on Wednesday and Thursday, February 6 & 7. The pair of Volusia visits will award $5,000 top prizes, as well as conclude action in the Sunshine State for America’s Series.

Tim Shaffer two-for-two during Winter Nationals action at Bubba Raceway Park
OCALA, Fla. (February 1, 2019) - For the second time in as many nights, the ‘Steel City Outlaw’ Tim Shaffer is a main event winner with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1, padding a recent stretch of Florida dominance that now includes back-to-back $5,000 top prizes. For Shaffer, the All Star victory was the product of patience and experience, forced to manhandle periods of slower traffic on a narrow, but ultra-fast racing surface, all while maintaining an advantage equal to just under four seconds for much of the 30-lap program.
World of Outlaws competitor and fellow Pennsylvania-native, Jacob Allen, finished just behind Tim Shaffer at the final checkers, followed by Visalia, California’s Cory Eliason, Mark Smith and former All Star champion, Chad Kemenah. The victory, Shaffer’s fifth All Star triumph at Bubba Raceway Park, increased his career win total with the Series to a staggering 66.
“This is really great. Everyone is doing a great job. It’s great to have my car owners here this weekend. It’s really special for them to be here and watch the car win,” Tim Shaffer explained, driver of the Demyan-Rudzik Racing/Smith Titanium/Southern Pacific Farms/No. 49X sprint car. “Everyone plays a big part and I certainly wouldn’t be here without them.”
Starting third on the main event grid, it was not until after the feature’s first and only caution on lap five, the product of a slowing Jim Shuster, that Shaffer commenced his pursuit toward the front. Restarting third on the grid when green flag action returned, it was the soon-to-be traffic that appeared on lap eight that allowed the Aliquippa, Pa., native to track down Cory Eliason and race-long leader, Jacob Allen.
A bold dive in turns three and four on lap 12 allowed Shaffer to squeeze underneath Eliason to take the runner-up position. Just two circuits later, Shaffer repeated his now patented move in turns three and four, eventually sneaking under Jacob Allen to snag the top spot.
From that point forward, Tim Shaffer was the main attraction. The four-time All Star Circuit of Champions champion was not distracted by periods of intense traffic, ultimately increasing his margin of victory to just shy of four seconds by the time the final checkers flew.
“I have a lot of years of experience. I’ve been in their shoes before and I hate to be there,” Tim Shaffer said of Cory Eliason and Jacob Allen. “When you’re leading and there are lap cars, it’s tough to get your timing correct. Tonight was one of those nights where you had to get your timing down. It’s so tough down here.”
The Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will conclude their three-day visit to Bubba Raceway Park on Saturday evening, February 2. Like the pair of evenings prior, the All Star Winter Nationals finale will award a $5,000 top prize.
Once Winter Nationals action at Bubba Raceway Park is complete, All Star teams will make their way east across Route 40 and visit Volusia Speedway Park for DIRTcar Nationals competition on Wednesday and Thursdays, February 6 & 7. SYRACUSE, NY February 1, 2019 . . . Flush with the success in venues in Allentown, PA, and Atlantic City, NJ, the Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels wraps up the 2019 season in Syracuse, NY. The first time event will be held inside the recently opened New York State Fairgrounds Exposition Center on Friday and Saturday, March 8th and 9th.
The first Indoor Three Quarter (TQ) Midget car event in Central New York in 17 years will be the fourth and fifth legs of the series and help decide a tight point race between former champions Erick Rudolph and Justin Bonsignore.
The Syracuse program will include two complete programs with qualifying and feature events for the three division program which includes the TQ Midgets, Slingshots and Champ Karts each night. Doors open at 6 PM each night with racing beginning at 7:30 on Friday and 7pm on Saturday.
“The new building is perfect for our Indoor Racing Series and in just the right spot for many of our competitors,” said promoter Len Sammons. “Many of the teams that competed in Niagara Falls back in the day, now have an event closer to their home. Those events were also very popular with the fans so a big crowd is expected.” Ticket sales for the Syracuse event, which were available for the first time on January 29th, were considered brisk.
Rudolph, a three-time series champion from Ransomville, N.Y. enters the Syracuse event second in points. Current leader Ryan Flores of Troutman, N.C. however will be working his full-time job on the Syracuse race weekend. Flores will be in Phoenix, AZ, changing front tires on the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series No. 12 Penske Ford driven by Ryan Blaney.
That will put Rudolph, the 2018 dirt Modified track champion at Canandaigua, N.Y.’s Land of Legends Raceway, on top of the points before a lap is turned in Syracuse. The 2018 series champion, Justin Consignor will have two point shows in Syracuse to make up the current 21 point difference between them. Consignor, the 2018 NASCAR Whelan Modified Tour champion, sold his No. 51 TQ Midget after the most recent event in Atlantic City, but he’ll now drive the car for new owner Bob Webber Jr. who owns N.H.’s Star Speedway.
Recent Atlantic City Gambler’s Classic winner Andy Jankowiak of Tonawanda, N.Y. will enter the final two points races third in the standings just 40 points behind Rudolph.
Two drivers familiar to N.Y.’s Oswego Speedway Supermodified fans, Tyler Thompson, of Oswego, 2018 Supermod and ISMA Series Rookie of the Year, and Joey Payne, of Fairlawn, NJ. four time career Supermodified winner and the all-time Oswego non-wing Supermodified one lap track record holder are entered for the TQ Midget events.
Thompson will be in the Simmons Racing No. 98T he has run throughout the Series while Payne will suit up in his own No. 45 that his son Anthony drove to his first victory in last year’s weekend finale in Albany, N.Y.
Two well-known N.Y. state Modified talents will be seeking their first ever TQ Midget Indoor Series victory. Asphalt Modified ace Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park will be driving the Baker No. 31, a car he made his debut in during the Atlantic City race weekend. Marc Johnson of Guilderland, the 2017 Albany-Saratoga Speedway DIRTcar Modified champion, will be driving a new car owned by Ken Sebring and built by Kluth Motorsports. This car was very fast in its debut in Atlantic City.
Four other highly regarded TQ chauffeurs Eddie Strada of Hamlin, PA, Anthony Sesely of Matawan, N.J., Matt Janisch of Nazareth, PA, and Tim Buckwalter of Royersford, PA are among the many pre-race favorites to win the inaugural races.
The headline three-quarter midgets annually competed inside the Niagara Falls Convention Center from 1984 through 2002 when the building was made into a casino. The Indoor Auto Racing Series made its debut in New York last year with an event held inside Albany’s Times Union Center.
More than 30 of the Slingshot and Champ Karts are expected to compete for starting spots and feature wins both days.
The New York State Fairgrounds Expo Center opened during the recent 2018 Labor Day Fair. The huge state of the art $33 million project was built without obstructing poles and state-of-the-art LED lighting.
Grandstand seating will be available on both the front and backstretch. From their seats, fans will able to be able to see the entire speedway plus the pit area which will be located on the far side of the building.
The Exposition Center has a different seating configuration than the Allentown and Atlantic City venues in that grandstand patrons enter at track level, then walk up to seating areas as they do at most outdoor speedways.
“Because of the way the Expo Center is configured, the best seats would appear to be higher up in the arena rather than on the front-row which is usually our premium seats,” Sammons explained. “There isn’t a bad seat in the house, but if I was picking one I’d sit from the middle to the top if I had a choice.”
Entries for all three divisions are limited, but a few slots remain in all three divisions.

OCALA, Fla. (January 31, 2019) - Tim Shaffer’s effort on Thursday evening was relentless. Not only did the ‘Steel City Outlaw’ open the 2019 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 season by scoring the Winter Nationals opener at Bubba Raceway Park, he was forced to battle, and hold back, three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart and Bixby, Oklahoma’s Shane Stewart in the process.
Shaffer, pilot of the Demyan-Rudzik Racing/Smith Titanium/Southern Pacific Farms/No. 49X sprint car, earned his $5,000 top prize from the inside of row two, taking control over the field for the first time on lap 28. Despite not earning the lead, officially, until the latter stages the 30-lap program, Shaffer was in the hunt the entire distance, actually taking command on lap 19 before it was negated due to the evening’s first and only caution.
The All Star Circuit of Champions victory bumped Shaffer’s all-time win total to 65 with the Series, now with four at Ocala, Florida’s Bubba Raceway Park.
“Racing in second was definitely the ideal place to be tonight,” Tim Shaffer explained. “My guys gave me a great race car. This whole team works so hard and it really pays off. The track was a little tricky tonight, some dry-slick spots and some spots with moisture. I just tried to find as much moisture as I could find. We are all standing here in victory lane and that’s all that matters today.”
Despite slipping back as far as fifth after the initial start, Shaffer recovered in a hurry and battled his way into second around Chad Kemenah and Sheldon Haudenschild by the completion of lap four. With slower cars coming into play by lap six, the transition from clean air to dirty air acted as an advantage for the Aliquippa-native, actually allowing Shaffer to reel in race leader, Tony Stewart, to less than a car length by lap nine.
The top two cars raced nearly nose to tail until the main event’s first and only caution appeared on lap 19. During that period before the yellow flags flew, Shaffer made countless attempts to work around Stewart in traffic, actually poking his nose ahead and racing his way alongside the familiar Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing entry.
Despite getting the opportunity to start on the tail tank of Stewart’s No. 14, the lap 19 restart paid no favors to the four-time All Star Circuit of Champions title holder, actually losing one position to the CJB Motorsports machine driven by Shane Stewart. Five circuits later, Stewart advanced in the running order yet again, this time driving around Tony Stewart to take command for the first time on lap 24. Although dominant during his short tenure on top, Tony Stewart was able to battle back and regain the lead on lap 25, slipping up in front of Shane Stewart as the pair exited turn four.
Meanwhile, Shaffer, who was directly behind the lead pair as they weaved through traffic, garnered enough momentum to advance back into the runner-spot on lap 26. Just two circuits later, Shaffer was again in contention for the top spot, eventually beating Tony Stewart in drag race back to the flagstand to put lap 28 in the books. From that point forward, it was all Tim Shaffer, pulling ahead to just over one second by the time the final checkers flew.
“There is nothing wrong with finishing third to guys like Shane Stewart and Tim Shaffer,” Tony Stewart said, who started second on the feature grid. “I think I may have sealed over my tires during that restart. I probably spun the tires more than I needed to. It doesn’t actually wear down the tire, I just wasn’t getting any bite. Making little mistakes like that shows you what kind of pressure you are under as a driver racing with this level of competition.”
“That was a fun race,” Shane Stewart said. “I thought I was going to have something for [Tony Stewart] and [Tim Shaffer]. Regardless, I couldn’t be more pleased. My team works really hard and I appreciate what they’ve done. Everyone knows this team has been very fast the last few seasons. Hopefully I can continue that streak.”
Drivers and teams should note that Bubba Raceway Park will open pit gates at 9 a.m. during the entire weekend program. A mandatory All Star Circuit of Champions drivers meeting will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, but pushed ahead to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hot laps are slated to begin at 6:45 p.m. each night.
