COURTNEY CONTINUES WINTER DIRT GAMES SUCCESS IN USAC MIDGET OPENER

Ocala, Florida (February 8, 2019).........Tyler Courtney continued his winning ways in "Winter Dirt Games" at Bubba Raceway Park in Friday's USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship season opener.
The Indianapolis, Indiana driver was victorious in the final two races of last year's USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car portion of "Winter Dirt Games" en route to his first career USAC National driving title. Kicking off the year in grand fashion is the goal of anybody with championship ambitions, and Courtney believes this a solid first step in that direction on the midget side of things aboard his Clauson-Marshall Racing/NOS Energy Drink/Spike/Stanton SR-11x.
"To win anytime is important," Courtney reiterated. "To get the ball rolling this early in the year, and obviously it's early, there's lots of stuff that could happen, but you've got to get yourself put in the right spot coming out of Florida. I think it shows on the sprint car side if you put yourself in the right position starting down here, it kind of makes things a little smoother throughout the year. I think KT and I are a testament that every point counts. You've got to be on top of your game every time you hit the racetrack. I think I only won one midget race last year, so to get one out of the way now, it gives me a better opportunity to win some more throughout the year."
If there's anyone who knows that every point counts in a season-long run, even in the month of February, it's Courtney, who tied with Kevin Thomas, Jr. on the final tally for the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car championship a year ago. And it was those two once again who were tied at the hip, side-by-side in row three for the start of the 30-lapper on the 3/8-mile, D-shaped dirt track.
It was Tucker Klaasmeyer, from the pole, who would lead the opening four circuits before Courtney (and C.J. Leary) put on the attack on the fifth lap. Leary worked a lane higher than Klaasmeyer, as Courtney worked underneath. In turn one, however, Courtney ripped the higher line away from Leary to get to second, then pivoted his charge toward Klaasmeyer and was able to rip around the Paola, Kansas driver for the race lead off turn four.
"C.J. got a run on me, not necessarily the high side of three and four, but I knew I needed to get up there sooner or later," Courtney recalled. "I got back around C.J. in one and two and was able to take his lane away out of three and four and was able to drive right around Tucker. This place is all about getting track position early, especially with the midgets and how close we are."
Courtney instantly stretched his lead as Leary got shuffled back to fourth, allowing Chad Boat to slide to third, then to second by Klaasmeyer on the seventh lap. As the frontrunners began to clamp down on the tail end of the field on lap 12, series Rookie of the Year contender and tenth-place-running Andrew Layser's night ended with a flat right rear tire in turn one.

As Courtney would continuously showcase throughout the main event, every restart was on point, as he distanced himself from Boat time and time again, constructing a 1.5 second lead past the halfway mark. Courtney would continue to add to his lead incrementally until traffic was in near-sight, when Zane Hendricks' left rear tire went away, forcing him to a stop in turn one.
Not to be deterred, Courtney busted out on the lap 20 restart, ratcheting up the interval to one second initially and then to two seconds with five to go when Adam Pierson came to a rest in turn two, forcing one final restart for Courtney to conquer. Leary was able to work his way to second underneath Boat in turn two on the 27th lap, but Courtney was clear and gone once again.
Kevin Thomas, Jr. made a stirring charge from sixth to second in the final four laps to claim the runner-up spot behind Courtney, who captured his sixth career series win, putting him in a 12-way tie for 100th all-time. K. Thomas finished second ahead of Chris Windom, Leary and Zeb Wise.
It was Courtney's third consecutive win in his three most recent appearances at Bubba Raceway Park. It's a track that seems fitted not only to his liking, but also to the CMR crew, who certainly have proved they know how to prepare a car to run up front at this place with three of their four pilots finishing in the top-five Friday night, including Courtney at the top.
"I think it kind of fits my style," Courtney said. "Tim (Clauson) on the midget side has them going really good down here, and Rizzy (Tyler Ransbottom) on our sprint car stuff, they obviously work with each other, so we've got a really good feel for this place. I'm just fortunate to be driving them. It's a really good start to the year with our new NOS Energy Drink partnership. This is a fun racetrack and I've taken a liking to it. I won't complain about that."

Pittman Powers to Opening Night Victory at Volusia Speedway Park’s DIRTcar Nationals
BARBERVILLE, FL – Feb. 8, 2019 – Daryn Pittman is no stranger to winning at Volusia Speedway Park. However, when he pulled his Sprint Car into Victory Lane during the opening night of the World of Outlaws NOS® Energy Drink Sprint Car Series at the DIRTcar Nationals it was like a first win.
NOS Energy Drink dawned Victory Lane for the first time as the new title sponsor of the Series, but the biggest change for Pittman was the car he drove to the win – the legendary Roth Motorsports No. 83.
“There is nothing better than starting the year off with a win,” said Pittman, who won for the 82nd time in his World of Outlaws career. “It’s hard to do. Everyone of these wins is hard to come by. But to start the season off like this, I don’t think we could have scripted it any better.”
For the past six years, Pittman drove the No. 9 for Kasey Kahne Racing – winning his only Series championship in 2013, his first year with the team. He lost that ride at the end of 2018, as car owner Kasey Kahne planned to run more Sprint Car races this year. Losing that ride didn’t put any more pressure on him to perform, though. The pressure is always there.
“I put enough pressure on myself every day, no matter who I’m driving for or what I’m racing,” Pittman said. “At my age (40), I’m not young anymore. The truth is, you have too many bad seasons and you get to my age, people start wondering ‘Man has he lost it or not?’. I just have pressure on myself to get out there and perform.”
Pittman added his goal with Roth Motorsports is to build a long-lasting, competitive program.
He showed speed all day, qualifying second, finishing second in his Heat Race and finishing third in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash – behind fellow Oklahoma-natives Shane Stewart in the CJB Motorsports No. 5 car and Christopher Bell in the Swindell SpeedLab No. 39 car, who he battled for the win during the 30-lap caution free Feature.
Stewart, who is also in a new ride this year with the CJB Motorsports team, shot to the lead on the opening lap of the Feature. He utilized the top side of the track to his advantage most of the night, holding off attacks by Bell and Pittman for the lead. He switched to the bottom of the track for a few laps, allowing Bell, on the high side, to make his best attempt to steal the lead. Bell was able to pull side-by-side with Stewart, but never able to clear him.
Bell and Pittman traded second-place a few times throughout the race. By lap 15, Pittman was able to clear Bell for second, utilizing the traction at the bottom of the track.
Sticking to the bottom, Pittman began to reel in Stewart, who had entered lap traffic. With 10 laps to go, Stewart looked to have the race under control, keeping a healthy distance between he and Pittman while maneuvering through lap cars. Until five laps later.
Coming off turn four on the high side, Stewart’s run was disrupted by a slower lap car, allowing Pittman to get underneath him in turn one, then clearing him on the backstretch. Once Pittman stole the lead, Stewart was unable to challenge for it back and had to settle for second.
“I wish I had a couple of them laps back,” Stewart said. “I got caught behind (Jason) Sides, and I wasn’t really sure what to do. And to win these races you can’t make little mistakes like that. We had a solid night. This car has been fast since I’ve set foot in it and I’m really excited about this year.”
Bell finished third, ahead of Brad Sweet in fourth and Donny Schatz in fifth. However, Schatz and David Gravel – also in a new ride this year – tied coming to the line for fifth. Schatz was awarded fifth, because per Series rules, going back to the previous lap Schatz was ahead of Gravel.
Gravel did earn the KSE Racing Hard Charger honor, coming from 17th to sixth.
For Pittman, while he is dealing with a lot of new, Friday night’s win is the start to showing people he will be a threat to win every night, he said.

The ‘Big Cat’ earns All Star Florida finale victory at Volusia Speedway Park
BARBERVILLE, Fla. (2/7/2019) - The ‘Big Cat’ Brad Sweet was the man to beat on Thursday evening at Volusia Speedway Park, officially concluding the five-race Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 sweep through the Sunshine State with a $5,000 DIRTcar Nationals triumph.
The victory, Sweet’s fourth-ever during All Star Circuit of Champions competition and his first at the Barberville half-mile, was accomplished from the outside of row two, slowly picking his way through a stout contingent of frontrunners before earning the lead for the first time on lap 16.
“You’re never going to win the race if you drive the same line as everyone else,” an elated Brad Sweet said in victory lane, driver of the Kasey Kahne Racing/NAPA Auto Parts/Team ASE/Curb Records/Wicked Energy Gum/No. 49 sprint car. “I’m always searching and looking for ways to get faster. I’ve learned that over the years from Donny Schatz. I can’t thank everyone enough for this. We have a few people from Wicked Cushion and Wicked Energy here tonight, so it was cool to get a win for those guys. It’s nice to get a win but the real season begins tomorrow.”
Although shuffled back as far as fifth after the initial start, Brad Sweet wasted little time working his way back into winning contention, eventually maneuvering his focus from the topside of the speedway to the bottom to help boost his efforts.
With slower traffic entering the picture as early as lap eight, Sweet capitalized and advanced two positions in less than five laps; passing Tony Stewart for third on lap 11 and Christopher Bell for second on lap 14, each while hugged to the bottom of Volusia Speedway Park.
Continuing his efforts on the bottom of the speedway, it was not long before Sweet was on the tail tank of race-long leader, Daryn Pittman, actually pulling even with the Roth Motorsports, No. 83 entry by lap 15. The following circuit is when Sweet made his move, using his signature dive to drive underneath Pittman to take command by the exit of turn two.
Although Sweet was strong enough to pull away initially, heavy doses of slower traffic soon layered the speedway forcing Sweet to utilize the top and bottom grooves of the ultra-fast half-mile.
Logan Schuchart, who started alongside Sweet in row two, made things interesting in the closing circuits and actually closed-in within one second of Sweet while the pair frantically navigated traffic. The Hanover, Pa., native moved into second on lap 25. At that time, Sweet held a two second advantage.
“I knew the bottom would be there. The top was just really fast there at the beginning,” Brad Sweet continued. “I honestly thought I heard the officials call a yellow at the beginning and I actually checked up and got on the brakes. Then I realized we were still racing. Regardless, I thought we did a really good job getting the car to battle through lapped traffic. I ended up getting pretty tight there at the end and I thought somebody was probably breathing down my neck. I was just trying to drive as hard as I could the last few laps. I was really happy to see the checkers.”
Capitalizing on his late-race surge, Shark Racing’s Logan Schuchart held on to finish second during the non-stop, 30-lap program, followed by Daryn Pittman, Christopher Bell, and the ‘Steel City Outlaw’ Tim Shaffer.
Allowing Mother Nature to make the transition into more seasonable temperatures, the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will not return to competition until Thursday, April 11, when the Series makes the trip to southern Virginia for a one-night stand at Virginia Motor Speedway.
As the first point-accumulating event of the 2019 season, the trip to Virginia will award a $10,000 top prize, also kicking off a four-race sweep through the Mid-Atlantic that also includes trips to Williams Grove Speedway (4/12), Port Royal Speedway (4/13), and Bedford Speedway (4/14).
In total, Tony Stewart’s traveling All Stars will headline seven events during the month of April, scheduled to make starts in Ohio and Pennsylvania in addition to their Virginia appearance.

SYRACUSE NY February 7, 2019 . . .When the green flag drops on Friday and Saturday, March 8th and 9th at the New York State Fairgrounds Exposition Center in Syracuse, N.Y., two of Oswego Speedway’s most popular and accomplished Supermodified drivers, Joey Payne of Fairlawn, NJ and Tyler Thompson of Oswego, will be ready to hit their throttles full blast.
Nicknamed ‘The Jersey Jet”, Payne, has won four career Supermodified features at Oswego in his career, three non-wing events and one ISMA race. More importantly, Payne is the all-time one lap non wing track record holder, setting the standard at 15.802, in 2014.
At Syracuse, Payne will be driving a car that is a proven winner. His son Anthony drove the same No. 45 to a win the first ever Indoor Auto Racing Series event inside Albany, N.Y.’s Times Union Center last February.
Thompson, who just turned 17, is a throwback to the “race anything, anywhere” mentality that was the rule rather than the exception in racing years ago.
Thompson raced a DIRTcar Sportsman Modified, a wing and non-wing Supermodified, a go-kart and an ultra-quick TQ Midget in 2018. The past season was a breakout campaign for Thompson, who won the DIRTcar All-Star Invitational Sportsman Championship at the Dirt Track in Charlotte, N.C. He also claimed both the Oswego and ISMA Supermodified Series Rookie of the Year titles; the first driver since 1992 to accomplish that dual feat.
“Driving the TQ for the full Indoor Auto Racing Championship schedule last season was great experience,” said Thompson.
“The TQ is extremely quick and it is tight racing with some of the best drivers in the country.”
Thompson will be in the Simmons Racing No. 98T he has run throughout the 2019 Series at what will almost be a hometown event for him. He’ll also be coming off a trip to Florida where he made his DIRTcar big-block Modified debut at Volusia Speedway Park.
The two-day Syracuse event will include two complete programs with qualifying and feature races each night for the TQ Midgets, Slingshots and Champ Karts. Doors open at 6 PM on Friday night with racing beginning at 7:30. Doors open at 5:30 PM on Friday with racing at 7pm. Fans will be able to visit the pit area to see the cars and meet the drivers each night until 30 minutes before the racing begins.
The first Indoor Auto Racing Series event in Central New York will be the fourth and fifth legs of the series. Both races will offer equal points in helping decide a tight point race between former champions Erick Rudolph and Justin Bonsignore. Rudolph was the 2018 point champion at the nearby Land of Legends Raceway in Canandaigua, N.Y. and he finished second in the Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified series. Bonsignore first won the Indoor TQ Midget title than the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship.
Three upstate New York powerhouses, recent Atlantic City Gambler’s Classic winner Andy Jankowiak of Tonawanda, 360 Sprint ace Scott Kreutter of Alde, and Modified dirt and paved track ace Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, are all contenders for a win.
Another all Empire State team drawing attention in the recent Atlantic City race was 2017 Albany-Saratoga Speedway dirt Modified champion Marc Johnson of Guilderland. Driving an all new car owned by Ken Sebring of Albany, and built by Kluth Motorsports of Holley, Johnson was extremely competitive.
Three other highly regarded TQ chauffeurs, Eddie Strada of Hamlin, PA, Matt Janisch of Nazareth, PA, and Tim Buckwalter of Royersford, PA are among the top ten in Series points.
Exposition Center opened during the recent Labor Day Fair. The huge, state of the art $33 million project was built without obstructing poles. Grandstand seating will be available on both the front and backstretch. From their seats, fans will able to be able to see the entire speedway plus the pit area which will be located on the far side of the building. The building has a different seating configuration than other venues the series stops at in that grandstand patrons enter at track level, then walk up to seating areas.

Shane Stewart earns first Gator during All Star DIRTcar Nationals opener
BARBERVILLE, Fla. (February 6, 2019) - It took Bixby, Oklahoma’s Shane Stewart eight laps to track down race leader, Daryn Pittman, from the inside of row three, but once he found the back bumper of the Roth Motorsports entry, it was the end of the road for Daryn Pittman, as well as the rest of the field.
Stewart, driver of the CJB Motorsports/GoMuddy.com/Big Game Treestands/High Performance Lubricants/Weikert’s Livestock/No. 5 sprint car, opened the 48th Annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park with an Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 triumph; a tenth-career victory for the Oklahoma-native against the traveling All Stars, collecting $5,000 in the process.
For Stewart, the signature Gator Trophy was extra special, as it was his first during a long and storied career.
“This is my first gator,” Shane Stewart expressed with excitement in victory lane. “After coming here for all of these years, I’ve never actually won a race here. This win means a lot to me and this team means a lot to me. I left the ‘2 car’ thinking ‘this is probably the end of my career’ because I’m getting a little older. Then the phone rings. It has been a real pleasure working with Barry [Jackson] and the crew.”
Although forced to start fifth on the feature grid, Stewart was on the hunt early, actually climbing his way into a podium spot by the completion of lap three. Less than a circuit later, Stewart was in a tight battle for second, eventually working his way around Nashville, Tennessee’s Paul McMahan before setting his aim for the Roth Motorsports entry driven by Daryn Pittman. Fortunately for Stewart, the main event’s first and only caution appeared just one lap later, thus erasing Pittman’s near-two second command over the field.
Green flag action soon returned giving Stewart a clear shot at racing his away around Pittman. Although Pittman escaped in clean air, Stewart was able to track down his fellow Oklahoma native to less than a car length by lap eight.
Utilizing the bottom groove of the speedway, Stewart set up his winning pass as the lead pair entered turn three on lap nine. His momentum on the bottom of the speedway proved beneficial as Stewart was able to power his way across the track, slide in front of Pittman and take command by the exit of turn four.
Although Pittman kept pace with Stewart until the midpoint of the 30-lapper, actually executing two attempts to regain the top spot as the lead duo raced through traffic, Stewart’s momentum on the topside soon took over and he eventually pulled away. In fact, Stewart’s command grew as the laps counted down, ultimately crossing under the final checkers by a margin of victory equalling 3.8 seconds.
Daryn Pittman held on to finish second, followed by David Gravel, a hard charging Donny Schatz from 22nd, and Logan Schuchart.
“This says a lot about all of the work then went on over the winter months,” Stewart continued, who made just his fourth start aboard the CJB Motorsports entry. “Barry is always thinking. Even today at lunch, we were sitting around watching sports and the next sentence out of Barry’s mouth was about the car and how he could have made me better during last night’s practice. That makes me feel really good as a driver. This whole deal revolves around confidence. I’m hoping this early boost of confidence produces more wins throughout the season. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the year.”
The Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will conclude their winter vacation in the Sunshine State with one final visit to Volusia Speedway Park on Thursday, February 7. Tony Stewart’s All Stars will headline DIRTcar Nationals competition once again, chasing yet another $5,000 payday.
Allowing Mother Nature to make the transition into more seasonable temperatures, the All Star Circuit of Champions will not return to competition until Thursday, April 11, when the Series makes the trip to southern Virginia for a one-night stand at Virginia Motor Speedway.
As the first point-accumulating event of the 2019 season, the trip to Virginia will award a $10,000 top prize, also kicking off a four-race sweep through the Mid-Atlantic that also includes trips to Williams Grove Speedway (4/12), Port Royal Speedway (4/13), and Bedford Speedway (4/14).

TRENTON, NJ February 4, 2019 . . . Indoor Auto Racing Championship Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels officials announced late Friday afternoon that the results of the NAPA AUTO PARTS Atlantic City Gambler’s Classic race held inside Boardwalk Hall on Saturday, January 26th have been certified.
Hoosier Tires off several TQ Midgets were tested by Blue Ridge Laboratories in North Carolina, a firm that specializes in chemical analysis and the detection of chemical alternations and all were deemed legal. The results are now official with Andy Jankowiak of Buffalo, N.Y. the race winner. A check of $5,950, which includes bonus awards, was mailed to him on Friday.
Jankowiak’s right rear and right front tire was sampled after his Saturday night victory and after he set the third fastest time trial on Friday afternoon.
Samples were also taken from fast time trialer Erick Rudolph and second fast time trialer Anthony Sesely. Also sampled was the car of Friday night A-Qualifier winner Tommy Catalano who was randomly selected after setting the 28th fastest time.
Series officials tested tires for the first time this year after making chemical alterations in advance illegal. Tires tested from the series opener in Allentown, Pa. also passed. Results of the testing will be posted on indoorautoracing.com as per series rules. Along with samples being taken, a durometer test was made of tires on each car prior to time trials to check for irregularity.
The 2019 series wraps up in Syracuse, NY with the fourth and fifth round. The event will be held inside the recently opened New York State Fairgrounds Exposition Center with two complete shows on Friday and Saturday nights, March 8th and 9th. Tony Stewart dominates final night of All Star action at Bubba Raceway Park
OCALA, Fla. (February 2, 2019) - Despite an early afternoon rain shower nearly terminating the third and final night of Winter Nationals competition featuring the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1, the show went on and so did Tony Stewart, eventually dominating the entire program for a fourth-ever All Star main event win, as well as a $5,000 top prize. It was Stewart’s first-ever All Star victory at Bubba Raceway Park.
Stewart, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/No. 14 sprint car, started from the pole position and led all 30 circuits around Bubba Raceway Park, lapping nearly half of the 24 feature starters. On top of a dominating feature performance, Smoke kicked off the evening program with a heat race victory and a dash victory, ultimately setting up his main event starting position.
“This definitely feels great. We have our friends from Sage Fruit and Rush Truck Centers watching so to get a win for those guys is really special. I felt like I let one get away the other night. I’m still not sure what I did wrong, but we let that one get away,” Tony Stewart said in Bubba Raceway Park victory lane. “This thing has been fast all weekend. We really didn’t qualify that well tonight, but it put us on the pole of a heat race and that’s where you need to be for these races. I have a lot of great help and I wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”
Not even lapped traffic gave Stewart a stir, actually separating himself from second place running Lucas Wolfe by nearly eight seconds through the midpoint of the main event. Unfortunately for Stewart, the second and final caution, appearing on lap 25, ended his commanding lead, eventually setting up a six lap dash to the checkers. Despite a slight slip off of turn four, nothing was stopping the former three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion from attaining his first sprint car win of the season.
“We were actually a little too tight, believe it or not, which made things a little difficult for us,” Tony Stewart continued. “That’s the thing about Bubba Raceway Park; you won’t find another race track in the world that is shaped like this, which sets up a lot of unique passing opportunities. You kinda have to watch traffic for a few laps before you get to those guys so you know how to get around them.”
Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania’s Lucas Wolfe finished second to close out the weekend in Ocala, followed by Paul McMahan, Mark Smith, and the winner of the Thursday and Friday programs, Tim Shaffer.
All Star teams will now make their way east across Route 40 and visit Volusia Speedway Park for DIRTcar Nationals competition on Wednesday and Thursday, February 6 & 7. The pair of Volusia visits will award $5,000 top prizes, as well as conclude action in the Sunshine State for America’s Series.
