ANDY JANKOWIAK TOPS THREE QUARTER (TQ) MIDGET TIME TRIAL CHARTS IN THREE THURSDAY PRACTICES, LOU CICCONI AND RYAN FLORES ALSO QUICK; JARED SILFEE OUTRUNS SLINGSHOTS, MIKE PERRY BEST IN CHAMP KART PRACTICE THURSDAY NIGHT IN AC BROADWALK HALL ACTION

RACING ACTION INDOORS BOARDWALK HALL FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 24, 2019 . . . Andy Jankowiak of North Tonawanda, NY showed himself as the man to beat this weekend in Boardwalk Hall as the upstate New Yorker drove a homebuilt Three Quarter (TQ) Midget to quickest time Thursday night in three of the five timed practice sessions. Jankowiak’s first session time of 7.964 was quickest overall among the 52 drivers who practiced. Lou Cicconi, Aston, PA and Ryan Flores, Troutman, NC were quickest in one session each.

Cicconi is a two time past winner of the Gambler’s Classic, and Flores is defending champion of the prestigious race that will be run Saturday night as the climactic event of NAPA KNOW HOW Weekend in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. Jankowiak is an Atlantic City TQ feature winner, in 2015, but that win was in a Friday preliminary night event.

Jared Silfee of Saylorsburg, PA ran a 10.149 lap to set the standard over the five Slingshot practices while Mike Perry of Dighton, MA’s 9.617 lap was quickest in the five Champ Kart practices.

One TQ driver who did not run any laps Thursday night was Scott Kreutter of Buffalo, NY, a perennial Gambler’s Classic contender and 2018 Indoor Auto Racing Series race winner in Allentown, PA. Kreutter’s wife gave birth to the couple’s first child, a boy, Wednesday. Kreutter will make the decision to race or not race Friday morning. If he stays home, the ride in the Trey Hoddick-owned TQ Midget will be taken by Matt Farnham, who practiced the car Thursday and was among the top ten fastest TQ drivers.

Tonight, Friday, the three classes after running time trials will compete in a series of heat races that will help determine the eligible drivers for Saturday night’s feature races. The TQs will first to go to post in a Non-Qualifiers race, followed by Slingshot and Champ Kart Qualifying heats.

The biggest races on Friday are the four 20-lap TQ Midget heat races, traditionally action-packed affairs. Often these races are predictors of the Saturday night main event, the TQ Midget Gambler’s Classic.

Doors open at 6:30 PM for Friday night’s racing.

On Saturday, following Slingshot and Champ Kart B Mains in the afternoon, doors open at 5:00 PM for the final qualifying races that will set the starting lineups for the three features. Champ Karts and Slingshots each run 20-lap features before the headline 17th running of the TQ Midget Gambler’s Classic. Cale Ross and Brett Bieber are defending Kart and Slingshot Boardwalk Hall race winners.

The Classic, run over 40 laps, was won last year by Ryan Flores. In the six runnings before Flores won last year, Erick Rudolph and Anthony Sesely each won the Big One three times.

Tickets for both Friday and Saturday night’s Indoor Auto Racing Series NAPA KNOW HOW Weekend are available from the Boardwalk Hall box office in Atlantic City.

NAPA KNOW HOW ATLANTIC CITY INDOOR RACING IS THIS WEEKEND! ENTRIES CONTINUE TO COME IN. WHO IS THE FAVORITE TO WIN??

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 22, 2019 . . . TQ (Three Quarter) Midget drivers and teams are continuing to file entries for the 17th Annual NAPA KNOW HOW Atlantic City Indoor Race, set for this Friday and Saturday January 25 and 26 inside the famed Boardwalk Hall.

At stake is the biggest prize the Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels has to offer a victory in the prestigious Gambler’s Classic Saturday night.

Entries received just prior to deadline include those of Rob Schultz of Wayside, NJ, Bryan Narducci of Colchester, CT and Brian Montieth of Phoenixville, PA. With these late entries, the number has swelled to 60 drivers ready to compete for the Gambler’s Classic trophy.

Schultz races sparingly. He founded the company that makes the fueling systems NASCAR requires in each of its three national series. Formerly, he raced Modifieds at Wall Stadium. Narducci, a rising talent, finished a close second at Stafford Motor Speedway in the SK Lights championship and was impressive in his first Modified start. In the recent Daytona ARCA two day test, Narducci, who had never driven on a track larger than a 5/8ths mile speedway finished up 20th (of 43) on the speed charts. Montieth, a seven time and defending Lincoln Speedway 410 Sprint champion, is highly regarded as the hardest of hard chargers wherever and in whatever he races.

But who is the betting favorite to win the event?

In the 16 past runnings of the Gambler’s Classic, just nine drivers have stood tall in the winners’ circle. Ransomville, N.Y.’s Erick Rudolph (2017, 2015, 2012), and Matawan, N.J.’s Anthony Sesely (2016, 2014, 2013) each won the Classic three times. Joey Payne (2007, 2004) of Fairlawn, NJ, Lou Cicconi, Jr., (2010, 2006) of Aston, PA, and the late Ted Christopher (2011, 2009) of Planville, Conn. are two time Gambler’s Classic winners. Andy Mackereth, (2003) of Mississauga, ON, Jeff Heotzler (2005) of Wallkill, NY, Mike Tidaback (2008) of Brick, NJ, and defending winner Flores (2018) of Troutman, NC are one time victors.

Ryan Flores is the defending race winner, current series point’s leader and the most recent winner on the series after picking up the Saturday, January 5 victory at the PPL Center in Allentown, PA. All of those stats would make him a likely favorite to win, however winning back to back in Atlantic City, has only ever been done once by Anthony Sesely in 2013 and 2014. Making a repeat victory possible, but based on past results, not likely.

If recent history holds true, three time winner Erick Rudolph may be the one to prevent Flores from repeating. Rudolph will look to continue his trend of visiting victory lane every other year, winning the event most recently in 2015 and 2017. Will 2019 mark the third straight odd year for a Rudolph victory?

Sesely, who has returned to the seat of his Hyper 600 Micro Sprint, will look to win an unmatched fourth Gambler’s Classic. Other past winners, Lou Cicconi and Joey Payne, are entered in the event as teammates in identically prepared bright yellow and orange No. 75s owned by Cicconi. Both drivers will be looking to match Sesely and Rudolph with three victories.

How about a first time winner? 2018 Indoor Auto Racing Series Champion, Justin Bonsignore, Scott Kreutter and Matt Janisch would lead the list of contenders looking to break through and win their first Gambler’s Classic.

Bonsignore of Holtsville, NY, won the Indoor series opener in 2018 at the PPL Center in Allentown to kick off a remarkable season which ended with him being crowned the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion. Bonsignore has come close and is always a contender when the checkered flag falls in Atlantic City, will this year be the year his name is written on the big check?

Kreutter of Buffalo, N.Y., as of Monday evening, was planning on attending the race. Kreutter, an expectant father, has been encouraged by his wife to race after her most recent visit to her obstetrician. Kreutter, a past Indoor Auto Racing Series feature winner inside PPL Center in Allentown, PA, finished second to Flores in the most recent series event at that same location in early January.

Janisch, fresh off his first series victory on Friday night in Allentown, after many runner-up and podium finishes will be a contender to score his first Gambler’s Classic victory.

Other contenders would include Albany Indoor Race winners Andy Jankowiak and Anthony Payne. A Gambler’s Classic victory would be a dream come true for Jankowiak, who has won a Friday night preliminary event. Payne, who shocked the field with a last to first drive in Albany, would join his father Joey as an event winner.

One confirmed driver change has Midwesterner Billy Wease taking over the seat of the No. 711 TQ owned by Mike Iles.

Champ Karts and Slingshots will serve as the two support classes.

The Friday, Jan. 25 schedule calls for TQ Midgets to run in four 20-lap A-Main Qualifiers, with the winner of each event securing a spot in Saturday’s A-Main. Champ Kart and Slingshot qualifying is also on the Friday agenda. A special TQ Midget Non-Qualifiers race has been added to the Friday night schedule, open to 18 drivers who competed in and failed to qualify for both night’s features at the Allentown event held January 4 and 5. The winner of this event will guarantee themselves a spot in the Gambler’s classic.

The 40 lap Gambler’s Classic feature is the weekend highlight on Saturday and will conclude the NAPA Know How racing weekend. Preceding the event on Saturday will be a round of heat races, B-Mains and a dash for the TQ Midgets. Champ Karts and Slingshots return to run their feature races Saturday night as well.

Race fans who have purchased lower level reserved tickets in Boardwalk Hall will have the opportunity to visit the drivers and cars up close during in Saturday’s Fan Fest, which takes place immediately before the start of the night of competition with doors opening at 5pm.

Information, including ticket and hotel links, is available at indoorautoracing.com. Tickets are also available daily and the day of the events at the Boardwalk Hall box office. Other information is available by calling the series office during regular working hours at 609-888-3618.

Following Atlantic City, the series will conclude inside the all-new New York State Fairgrounds Exposition Center in Syracuse, NY on March 8-9. Those tickets will go on sale at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 29th.

Winner Christopher Bell(Joe Orth Photo)

Last Lap Pass Gives Christopher Bell His Third Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals Victory

Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (January 19, 2019) A finish for the ages, Kyle Larson looked to have his first Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire in hand, but with a furious run as the leaders worked into traffic, Christopher Bell found the hole on the low line entering turn one on the white flag lap to win his third Golden Driller in a row aboard the iRacing/Keith Kunz Motorsports No. 71w.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be able to win the Chili Bowl. To do it three straight times is just unbelievable, but man, I don't even care about three-straight. What about that race? I don't think I've ever really been a part of a last lap race like that, so I'm just glad that thing came out in the end," stated Bell who earned Keith Kunz his eighth Golden Driller as a car owner.

"To win like I did there, it's something I'm going to cherish the rest of my life."
Taking several shots at the start, the fourth time proved the winner with Logan Seavey taking off with the race lead. Larson in tow with Justin Grant and Christopher Bell giving chase, the line began moving as the race worked past the 14th circuit.

Starting to diamond corners with traffic in the mix on Lap 17, Larson was glued to Seavey's back bumper. Getting the run on Lap 20, Larson's run to the lead came the following lap with a low side pass off the fourth turn.

Getting the run on Logan Seavey for the runner up spot working Lap 33, the caution negated the pass by Bell. Retaking the spot-on Lap 34, Bell was on Larson for the lead the following lap before the caution on Lap 35. Swapping lines top to bottom on the restart, Larson began building some distance over Bell.

Finding traffic on Lap 48, Larson's advantage came under fire as slower traffic played to Bell's advantage. Racing to the final two laps, Bell was there. Looking for room to pass, the opportunity came as the pair raced past the white flag. Tapping tires through the first two turns as Kyle slipped off the bottom, Larson and Bell came together again through the third and fourth turn with neither wanting to give in. Freeing himself from Larson, Bell was able grab the win by 0.350 seconds.

The victory puts Bell in an elite class with Kevin Swindell as the only two drivers to win three consecutive Chili Bowl titles. Swindell still stands as the only one to go four for four.

Falling back to fourth on Lap 23, Justin Grant retook the spot on Lap 36, and held on for the show position in the NOS Energy Drink No. 4a. Racing from seventh, Oklahoma's Brady Bacon crossed fourth with Zach Daum moving up three spots to round out the top-five. Involved in an earlier caution, Tyler Courtney ended up the night's Hard Charger as the Indiana shoe was able rebound from the tail to sixth. Brad Sweet in seventh was followed by C.J. Leary, Logan Seavey, and Tanner Thorson.

For the 33rd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire, a total of 350 drivers took part in the 2019 event. The week's flip count reached 75 with the final car over being Christopher Bell. Attempting to rip victory donuts, Bell banked off the cushion and sent the car over. All drivers getting upside down were able to walk away.

The 34th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire takes place January 13-18, 2020 at the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Okla. Reserved Seat tickets go on sale on Wednesday, March 6, 2019. Ticket holders will receive a notice in the mail. All are encouraged to sign up for email notifications through the Chili Bowl website.

Christopher Bell Fends Off Late Race Challenge For John Christner Trucking Qualifying Night Triumph

Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (January 17, 2019) Surviving a myriad of cautions in Thursday John Christner Trucking Qualifying Night, along with a late race challenge from Shane Golobic and C.J. Leary, two-time defending Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire Champion, Christopher Bell locked his iRacing No. 71w into his seventh Saturday A-Feature in as many years.

Asked about the last few laps, Bell stated, "It was a lot busier than what I wanted them to be. Shane (Golobic) definitely made a race out of it and I hope the last four laps were a good show. It was a lot of fun ... well it was fun because I won but if I hadn't won it wouldn't have been much fun."

Bell's fifth career Preliminary Night win, the final four laps turned into a shootout between the Oklahoma native, Shane Golobic, and C.J. Leary. Taking his Keith Kunz Motorsports mount on two wheels on the final restart, the misstep was enough to allow the Elk Grove Ford No. 17c a run to the inside line going into the third and fourth turn.
Sliding across Bell's nose, Christopher turned down the track to retake the point.

Challenging again, this time Bell and Golobic found themselves under fire with the Valvoline No. 55v of C.J. Leary nearly going to the point. Unable to hold, Leary battled close with Shane Golobic but neither were able to build the run needed to keep pace as Bell took the checkered flag 0.555 seconds to the good.

"Shane was able to sneak underneath me in three. It got so slick off two and then all the way really until you got to pretty much four you were just kind of sitting there waiting on it and I knew that opening up my entry like that I was very vulnerable," commented Bell.

"I kept hitting the bottom off (turn) two on the restarts and going straight to the top, so I didn't really want to change what I was doing. I went down there, and I don't know if my tire was low or I got too much berm but I biked up and it allowed him to stay with me a little bit better and pull the trigger on me."

Shane Golobic's seventh ticket to the A-Feature since 2010, the California shoe was able to pull away from Leary by just under a half second. Finishing fourth was Danny Stratton with Josh Most making the very best of restarts and attrition to pick up 17 positions to pick up Hard Charger honors. Advancing 12 positions, Austin Brown crossed sixth.

Nearly clearing the turn one fence in his Heat Race, 2005 Chili Bowl Champion, Tracy Hines, was relegated to the 11th starting spot in the second C-Feature. Charging through the C and B-Features, the Wilke-Pak No. 11 advanced position 36 times to finish seventh. Tiptoeing his way through the field, Casey Shuman made up six positions with Kyle Cummins rebounding from a late race caution to finish ninth. Despite fighting mechanical issues throughout the A-Feature, cautions brought Andrew Felker back into the mix for a top ten finish.

Four nights down with two to go, the 33rd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire has had 276 drivers have check-in so far with 73 taking part in Thursday's John Christner Trucking Qualifying Night. Currently, the Chili Bowl Flip Count stands at 41. All drivers have been able to walk away.

The 33rd Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire continues Friday, January 18, 2019, with Vacuworx Qualifying Night. A roster of 75 drivers is expected to be on hand for the final prelim night. The River Spirit Expo Center will open at 9:00 A.M. with Pit Pass sales starting at 11:00 A.M. Rico Rocks It On Hard Rock Casino Qualifying Night

Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (January 16, 2019) Rico Abreu was the class of the field in Wednesday's Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa Qualifying Night at the 33rd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire; winning for the fourth time since 2015 aboard the Safelite AutoGlass/Keith Kunz Motorsports No. 97.

Asked if he felt his comfort level at the Chili Bowl was back to where it was a few years ago, Rico replied, "Yeah, I think so. I won those back to back years and I kind of had a slump year and came back to be competitive. Last year I felt I wasn't as good as the top two but if the roles were reversed, I think if I was in a little better position I think where they could chase me instead of me chasing them. Because those two boys [Bell and Larson], they don't too many mistakes when they get out front. I think this year was a matter of just minimizing the mistakes"

Rolling to the green from the right of the front row, Abreu gave chase from third the opening pair of laps before working past Blake Hahn for second. Caution on Lap 3 for Matt Westfall who came to a stop in turn one, Rico worked the hub of the Tulsa Expo Raceway on the restart with the move for the lead coming on Lap 7. With a run off the bottom of the second turn, Rico secured the point with the slide through turn four.

Slowed again on the ninth circuit when Alex Bright and Sammy Swindell tangled, Abreu pulled away on the restart as the race for second went three deep as Bodine, Gravel, and McCreadie traded top to bottom for the runner-up spot with David Gravel wheeling the FMR/Mobil 1 No. 76g to second.

Holding off David Gravel on a Lap 14 restart, Rico quickly rolled away on the cushion. Picking up steam on the berm of the Tulsa Expo Raceway, Gravel closed the gap until Rico adjusted his line to the bottom of three and four while running the top of turns one and two.

"Keith (Kunz) was kind of giving me a few signals that I needed to pick up the pace a little bit and said they were making up some time on me on the bottom in three and four. All night, I kind of struggled around the bottom, but I feel like I hit some good laps there at the end of the race."

Putting time between himself and the No. 76g, traffic entered the picture just at Abreu found the back of the field. Unphased by the backmarkers, the man with the mullet crossed the stripe 1.794 seconds to the good.

Locking into his first career championship feature event, David Gravel in second was trailed by Cole Bodine who held off the challenge of 17th starting Jake Swanson in the closing laps. Able to keep his No. 08 ahead of Tim McCreadie, the top five rounded out with Chili Bowl Rookie, Cannon McIntosh.

McCreadie would settle for sixth with Colby Copeland seventh. Having to race out of a B-Feature, Ryan Smith was the night's Hard Charger with a run from 23rd to eighth. Robert Dalby from 15th grabbed ninth with Daniel Robinson making it three drivers in the top-ten to advance 10 positions or more.

With three nights of competition in the books, the 33rd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire, 204 drivers have checked in so far with 73 taking part in Wednesday's Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa Qualifying Night. Currently, the Chili Bowl Flip Count standing at 22. All drivers have been able to walk away.
The 33rd Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire continues Thursday, January 17, 2019, with John Christner Trucking Qualifying Night. A roster of 75 drivers is expected to be on hand for the Thursday affair. The River Spirit Expo Center will open at 9:00 A.M. with Pit Pass sales starting at 11:00 A.M. Hot Laps will get underway at 4:00 P.M. with racing at 5:00 P.M. (CT). A field of 74 drivers is expected to take to the track.
