HOWARD EARNS MORE THAN $25K WINNING HIS FIRST GRANDVIEW SATURDAY NIGHT FEATURE RACE OF THE SEASON, THE 48TH ANNUAL FREEDOM 76
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. September 16,2018 . . . Duane Howard, behind the wheel of the Norm Hansell owned Norm’s Save Station No. 357, has had his share of problems throughout the 2018 season on Saturday nights at Grandview Speedway, but the team never gave up. They continued to try different venues to put the Carroll Hine powered mount in Grandview’s Saturday night victory lane – a place he had not stood in during the regular season since August 20, 2016.
The table finally turned for the five-time point champion during the running of the 48th Annual Freedom 76-lap T.P. Trailers Modified feature – a race Howard previously won four times.
Starting fifth through the luck of the draw, in a field of 34 cars Howard battled with Ryan Godown, runner-up and leader for 16 laps prior to the 31st lap restart when Howard took the lead.
Dealing with heavy lap traffic numerous times, Howard changed lanes to weave through the cars and this allowed Godown to reel him in, but Godown couldn’t make the move to the front and ran second the rest of the way while having to deal with third-place finisher Craig Von Dohren in the later stages.
When things were all set and done Howard picked up his biggest win of the season for a payday of $25,000 plus lap money, $250 from TP Trailers, products from VP Fuel providing he met the necessary requirements plus the Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie. A winner of the event in 1993, 1997, 1999 and 2011 plus now this year, Howard is now tied with Craig Von Dohren at five wins in the prestigious event.
Richie Pratt put the Kyle Borror-owned No. B4 into the early lead at the drop of the green from starter Ray Kemp with Kyle Weiss, Godown, Howard and Brian Hirthler in pursuit.
The red was thrown with eight laps in the books when Ryan Krachun’s car caught fire in turn four. He was uninjured, but out of the race. Pratt continued his pace with Godown making his presence known.
Godown put the Searock No. 26 at the head of the pack on the 15th circuit while Pratt, Howard, Weiss and Mike Gular jockeyed for positions.
On the 20th lap Stewart Friesen, who came straight from Las Vegas after competing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck race the previous night, Ryan Grim and Brian Papiez tangled between turns one and two right in front of the leaders and the other front runners bringing out the yellow. Godown narrowly missed the cars, but Pratt wasn’t as fortunate and got caught up in the melee which forced him to restart in the rear of the field. Godown held his pace when action resumed with pressure now coming from Howard, Gular, Weiss and Jeff Strunk, the defending race winner of the race the past two years.
Godown’s comfortable lead was erased when the red was thrown for a 10-car pile-up in which Pratt rolled and Billy Pauch Jr. was also involved. Several cars were eliminated. It was still Godown as the race leader when action resumed.
On the 30th lap while battling for positions, newly crowned 2018 NASCAR Modified point champion Mike Gular and Strunk made contact in the third turn with Strunk making contact with the wall erasing his chances of making the event a three-peat. Also involved was Skylar Sheriff, who hit the front end of Strunk’s car and hit the fourth turn wall with heavy impact. Sheriff was shaken up a bit and complained of leg pain.
While this took place Godown and Ray Swinehart, who were running first and third using alcohol while the others used gas, were allowed a fuel stop without losing their positions. When the race went green this time Howard took command trailed by Godown, Anthony Perrego, Gular and Swinehart.
By the 57th lap the race for the lead was a three-way one between Howard, Godown and Von Dohren, who started deep in the pack in 29th having to get in through the Schaeffer Motorsports Minuteman 20.
With ten laps to go and Howard encountering heavy lap traffic the order behind him was now comprised of Godown, Von Dohren, Jared Umbenhauer and Friesen, who came from the back of the pack several times.
Howard overcame all obstacles and held off all the competitors’ challenges to chalk up a well-earned win. Chasing him across were Godown, Von Dohren, who earned the Bobby Gunther Walsh and sponsors Hard Charger award worth $1,000, Umbenhauer and Friesen.
Meme DeSantis and Ray Swinehart, who finished ninth and 16th received a $100 bonus from Donnie and Patti Miller in memory of their son Chad who lost his life on September 16.
Alan Johnson, Frank Yankowski, Kenny Gilmore, Pratt, Perrego and Scott Albert won the five 12-lap heats.
T.J. Lilly, Alex Yankowski, Doug Manmiller, Don Norris Jr., Rich Rutski and Mike Lisowski qualified through the consolation races to get into the Schaeffer Motorsports Minuteman 20 – the last chance to get into the Freedom 76.
Rick Laubach won the event and dedicated the win to car owner Lori Hermann who recently lost her battle with cancer. Finishing second was Friesen followed by Von Dohren, Papiez and Manmiller.
Strunk won the 10-lap Cash Dash worth $1,000.
Coming up at Grandview:
Saturday, September 29th, 1 p.m. Enduro along with Blast from the Past Vintage doubleheader.
Saturday, October 13th, 6 p.m. Thunder on the Hill Halloween Special featuring the Big Block/358 Modifieds, Sportsman and MASS 305 Sprints.

Wise Rips to POWRi Career First
Lewistown, IL - Zeb Wise of Angola, Indiana picked up his first career POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League Saturday night at Spoon River Speedway. Wise used a unique line on the high-banked 3/8 mile Spoon River Speedway to etch his name in the history books as the winner of the 32nd annual Tom Knowles Memorial.
Starting inside row three, Wise charged to the front battling through a field of heavy hitters including last night's winner at Jacksonville Speedway in the Herb Barlow Memorial, Logan Seavey. Coming to green, Zach Daum and current POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League point leader Tucker Klaasmeyer shared the front row.
Leading the opening lap, Daum jumped into the lead over Tucker Klaasmeyer and Tanner Carrick. After Carrick overtook Klaasmeyer for second and Daum for the lead, Wise continued to move forward ripping the top side mirroring Carrick's line, while Daum rolled the bottom. As Carrick caught lap traffic, Daum and Wise closed, and a blanket could be thrown over the top three. In a split second decision, Wise found some magic in the middle in turns one and two, allowing him to surge into the lead.
While Daum worked the bottom, a line he has used to win many races, including some Knowles Memorials of the past, Wise used his line to stay out front while bringing along Klaasmeyer to second. Coming to the line, Wise led Klaasmeyer, with Carrick in third. Klaasmeyer's second was another good point night as the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midgets have a handful of races left for 2018. Pole sitter Zach Daum took fourth with Tyler Barron in fifth. Ryan Robinson finished sixth with Sam Johnson in seventh. Leading POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League Rookie of the Year candidate Karter Sarff took eighth, with Logan Seavey and Blake Carrick completing the top ten.
"When I went and split Carrick there, I found the middle in one and two and had a lot of grip coming off, so I used that to help me into turn three," said Zeb Wise. "I can't thank Tim, my dad, and Kevin enough. It was just those three this weekend, so tough week for them, but we got one done for them. I was just waiting for someone to show their nose on the bottom before moving down there. I got the lead up top in three and four. I felt like I had a pretty good car up there so I stayed and got it done."

Winner Zeb Wise (POWRi Photo)
"Zeb did a really good job," commented Tucker Klaasmeyer. "He found the top there early. It was a really fun race. Everyone got to look around a little bit. It would have been more fun if it was a 50-lapper. It was just a good time and a good race. We had a good car. I felt like we could have gone anywhere if the track would have changed. It was a good point night and everything is rolling in the trailer. Jay and a lot of guys on this team have experience winning championships, so they can teach me a lot. Just being smooth and making sure to finish all the races is what counts."
"When you lead that many laps, you're kind of just a sitting duck out front," stated Tanner Carrick. "I saw them on the bottom and moved to the bottom. Led a couple laps on the bottom and then decided to go back up top and drove it off the track, and fell back to fourth or fifth and then drove back up to third. Other than that, it felt pretty good. Just a sitting duck out front, I guess."

DUPREE DRIVES INTO VICTORY LANE AS LINEMAN IS CROWNED HAMMER SPORTSMAN
CHAMPION AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY
New Egypt, NJ (September 16, 2018) - At New Egypt Speedway's Championship
Night presented by the United States Air Force, Will Dupree scored the win
in the Hammer Sportsman feature as Bob Lineman Jr. was crowned the 2018
division champion. In the Crate Modified class, Joe Toth topped the field
while Kyle Kania won the points title. Lee Nardelli took the checkered flag
in the main event for the Larry's Hot Rods & Harley's Northeast Wingless
Sprint Cars and the championship was captured by Karl Freyer. The point
finale and championship in the Street Stock division went to Jon Meyer. Joe
Garey Jr. was the victor in the 4-Cylinder contest while his dad, Joe Garey
Sr., won the division championship.
As the 20-lap Hammer Sportsman got underway, Marty Resnick grabbed the lead
with David Burns in second. Will Dupree motored into third with two laps
completed. Cale Ross, who was trailing Bob Lineman Jr. by ten points in the
title chase, moved into fourth place just before the first of three
appearances of the yellow flag on lap seven. On the second attempt to resume
the contest, the fifth place running Lineman Jr. made accidental contact
with Ross. The incident resulted in Ross spinning in turn four and Lineman
Jr. was sent to the rear of the field. When green flag racing returned,
Burns sped past Resnick to assume the front running spot with Dupree
shuffling into second. At the halfway point, Burns was still on top as
Dupree was within striking distance. With seven laps remaining, Burns began
to slow down on the backstretch and Dupree inherited the lead with Ryan Heim
advancing into second and Art Liedl taking over third. Over the final tours
of the race, Dupree went unchallenged and drove to his first win of the
year. Heim, the 2018 rookie champion, was the runner-up. With Liedl
finishing third, Ross came from the back to take fourth. Fifth went to
Resnick. By finishing eighth, Lineman Jr. was able to win the 2018 Hammer
Sportsman championship by two points over Ross. The Hammer Sportsman heat
races were taken by Art Liedl and Will Dupree.
After a mid-race battle with Steve Desmelyk in the 20-lap Crate Modified
contest, Joe Toth was able to pull away in the latter stages to win his
second feature of the season. Desmelyk lead the first nine laps before Toth
became the leader as the halfway sign was given to the field. On lap eleven,
Desmelyk returned to the top running position. Following a good clash
between the top runners, Toth regained the lead for good with seven laps
remaining. With a strong second place finish, Kyle Kania was able to secure
the Crate Modified title for 2018. Jeremy Martino was third. After his car
was damaged in a heat race accident, Ryan Simmons steered Rob Mancini's ride
from the rear to a fourth place finish. Desmelyk held on to complete the top
five. Steve Desmelyk and Aaron Weaver scored wins in the Crate Modifieds
qualifying races.
In the non-stop 20-lap main event for the Larry's Hot Rods & Harley's
Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, a dominant green to checkered performance
put Lee Nardelli in the winner's circle for the first time in 2018. Heidi
Hedin was second. Third was grabbed by Joey Biasi and fourth went to Rich
Mellor. Karl Freyer, the division champion for the season, completed the
race in fifth. In addition to winning the feature, Nardelli was the victor
in the heat race for the Larry's Hot Rods & Harley's Northeast Wingless
Sprint Cars.
In the 15-lap Street Stock race, Jon Meyer led from start to finish to win
the feature and claim the 2018 title. The victory was Meyer's fifth of the
year. Bill Liedtka came home in second. Third was taken by Lee Allen. Jerry
Stanzione and Jim Avery rounded out the top five.
Joe Garey Jr. took the lead from Neil Rutt with three laps remaining in the
15-lap 4-Cylinder feature and paced the pack the rest of the way to snare
his third checkered flag of the season. Joe Garey Sr. finished in second and
won the 4-Cylinder championship. Rutt, who led the opening eleven circuits,
held on to finish third. Fourth was JC Duvall and Charlie Lauble was fifth.
On Saturday, September 22, the 2nd Annual Legends of the Fall takes place at
New Egypt Speedway. The Modifieds (Small Blocks vs. Big Blocks) will be
competing in a 75-lap feature that will pay $7,500 to win and $500 to start
the race. In addition, the racing program will be rounded out by a 35-lap
affair featuring the Crate Modifieds vs. Sportsman and an exhibition race
staged by the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club. Plus, a host of racing
legends will be on hand for a meet and greet session. Along with the hefty
payout, plenty of contingency bonuses will be up for grabs. The rules for
the Modifieds have been adjusted for this event. All Modified cars will be
permitted to run sail panels and all other Short Track Super Series South
Rules will be in effect. The complete list of rules and other information
including entry forms can be found at www.newegyptspeedway.net. On Saturday,
September 22, the pit gates unlock at 3:00 p.m. with the grandstand ticket

Seavey Victorious in Barlow Memorial at Jacksonville Speedway

Seavey Victorious in Barlow Memorial at Jacksonville
Jacksonville, IL - Taking his fifth POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League victory of the 2018, and his first-career Herb Barlow Memorial win, Logan Seavey took the checkers first at Jacksonville Speedway over Tanner Carrick and Zeb Wise.
Starting outside the front row to Tanner Carrick, at the drop of the green flag Seavey fell in line as Carrick set a blistering pace. Quickly reaching lapped traffic, Carrick gradually worked through the traffic in an effort to maintain the lead, allowing Seavey to close. Nearing the halfway mark, Carrick's machine appeared to lose speed as the 71K Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports Toyota-powered Bullet by Spike caught some of the rougher parts of the high-banked quarter mile. With 18 laps down Carrick's left rear cut down, bringing out the caution and allowing Logan Seavey to assume the lead.
After entering the work area and getting a fresh left rear, Carrick returned to racing at the tail of the field. Seavey took off at the drop of the green flag and distanced himself from Zeb Wise, Jake Neuman, and Zach Daum. On lap 20, Brayton Lynch running in the top ten took a tumble down the back stretch, bringing the racing to a stop.
Returning to racing, Seavey led the field to green followed by Wise and Klaasmeyer. Daum took to the work area during the red to replace a tire and tagged the back of the field. With laps winding down, Tanner Carrick was knocking on the door of the top five. Closing in to the checkered, Carrick picked off cars until he was in second and closing on Seavey. But it was not enough time for Carrick to make a move to regain the lead.

Winner Logan Seavey (POWRi Photo)
Zeb Wise took third with Tucker Klaasmeyer in fourth. Holley Hollan took fifth, her first career top five with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League. Zach Daum took sixth with Jake Neuman in seventh. Aaron Schuck finished eighth with Karter Sarff and Sam Johnson rounding out the top ten.
"It was a really good run," commented Logan Seavey. "Obviously, I've got the best car here. I just had to take care of it with the way the racetrack was. You saw Tanner getting himself in trouble, just blowing the left rear off. You've got to get through the holes really precise and if you don't, well you saw what happened to Tanner. It was just one of those deals where you have to take care of your racecar more than anything. You've just got to take care of your car and not bounce through the holes and he just bounced through the holes a little much and that's what got him into trouble."

Daryn Pittman Scores 8th Win of 2018 in Dramatic Fashion at Calistoga
CALISTOGA, CA – September 14, 2018 – Daryn Pittman held off Logan Schuchart by a car-length to win his 8th World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Feature of 2018 Friday night at Calistoga Speedway. Pittman led all 25 laps but shredded a right rear immediately after the checkered and limped his Kasey Kahne Racing No.9 to the scales and to Victory Lane. Schuchart settled for second, just 0.133 seconds behind Pittman, with Rico Abreu completing the podium.
Daryn Pittman drew the pole for the Sears Craftsman Dash and won the six-lap event to earn the pole for the 25-Lap Feature. Pittman used a strong start to lead the first two laps before a Red Flag for Sheldon Haudenschild and Willie Croft halted the action. Both drivers were uninjured. Haudenschild was able to return and run a few laps but was forced back to the pits with lingering issues.
The ensuing double-file restart saw Donny Schatz get by Logan Schuchart for third and begin to put pressure on Abreu for second.
Cory Eliason brought out the Yellow with seven laps complete running sixth.
As Pittman and Abreu powered away from the field, Schuchart was able to get back by Schatz for third on the restart down the backstretch.
The remaining 18 laps went non-stop allowing Pittman to reach the back of the field, forcing the Owasso, OK native to slow his pace out front. Abreu, Schuchart and Schatz closed in on Pittman as the racing surface became locked down. Schatz took third back from Schuchart with five laps remaining and looked poised to make a late-race charge.
With two laps remaining, the top four were nose-to-tail entering turn one. Schuchart muscled his way underneath Schatz to take third down the backstretch, then hit the rubber perfectly off of turn four to take second from Abreu coming to the White Flag.
Schuchart got a big run off turn two and took a peak underneath Pittman for the lead down the backstretch but thought better of it entering turn three. Schuchart turned the car hard left off turn four to try and steal the win but came up .133 short as Pittman collected his 8th win of 2019.
As Pittman went into turn one after the Checkered, his right rear tire blew, and he had to limp his KKR No.9 to the scales.
“I knew something was wrong the last three laps, I must have hit something,” Pittman said about the dramatic ending. “Hopefully we can continue to pick up wins and land a sponsor on this thing, it’s been a good stretch for Kasey Kahne Racing, Brad [Sweet] has obviously been really good this year. I’m so blessed to be able to be out here with my family doing this for a living,” Pittman said as his two daughters hugged him.

KEVIN HIRTHLER WINS NON-STOP FREEDOM-38 SPORTSMAN RACE AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
AUSTIN BISHOP TOPS MASS 305 SPRINT CAR FEATURE FIELD
BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 15, 2018 . . . NASCAR T.P.Trailers 358 Modified regular Kevin Hirthler, who started from fourth-place by luck of the draw for the 26-car starting field aboard his self-owned No. 117 Crate powered Sportsman entry, took the lead on Lap 7 from Ken Eckert Jr. and raced off with a dominating performance to capture the checkered flag in the fifth annual Freedom 38’er Friday night at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA.
The Boyertown, PA based driver lapped up to the eleventh-place finisher and won the non-stop 38-lapper by a full straightaway in a time of 10:11.28, taking home $1,500 for his efforts.
Hirthler became the fifth different winner in the 5-years, now, that the event has been raced.
For Hirthler, it was his second career Sportsman feature win at the track this season, his first since April 14, 2018, at the popular high-banked third-mile dirt track promoted by the Rogers family.
“With the rainout last Saturday night,” explained the 38-year-old second-generation car owner and driver, “the 358 Modified car is pretty much ready to go, so, that gave us some extra time to do a little extra work this past week on the Sportsman car and we got things done, scaled loaded up and just got things done in time to get he by maybe 4 o’clock.
“We just got the Crate engine in it back today. It is legit. It’s a GM Crate engine in it. It is my brothers back up engine and we had nothing but troubles with it the past two-years. After nothing but struggling with the engine it’s hitting on all eight cylinders tonight. We finally got things straightened out. It’s legit. Not a cheater. The engine has all the seals on it and when the track slicks up like it did tonight, it’s easy to drive and it has all kinds of power. Anybody is welcome to check the engine out after the races tonight if they have questions about it,” announced Hirthler.
The top 12 qualifiers out of the heat races redrew for starting positions, with Brian Mady from Milford, PA starting on the pole. Mady grabbed the lead for the first two tours, with Eckert Jr., who started outside the front row, whistling by to become the new race leader on Lap 3.
On Lap 7, Hirthler ducked in underneath Eckert Jr. exiting Turn 2 and motored out in front down the backstretch, as Eckert Jr., Mady, Dean Bachman and Craig Whitmoyer trailed.
With 14 complete, Whitmoyer advanced to fourth-place and the 43-year-old veteran took third-place a circuit later.
With 18 in the record books, Whitmoyer climbed into the runner-up role, however, Hirthler was pulling away as the laps quickly clicked off.
With 28-laps recorded, Hirthler was now a full straightaway out in front of Whitmoyer, who was running second in front of Eckert Jr. and Mady.
“I have no idea where second-place was because I never saw anybody,” offered Hirthler in victory lane. “You had to pick your way through the field and all the lapped cars because they were out there racing for position too. You had to maneuver up high or go low and if you could hit the inside slime just right going through the corners, your car would slide up a little, giving you room to get under some cars. I came up off the corners a few times and it wasn’t easy picking a way through the lapped traffic.”
Hirthler went basically unchallenged after he got out in front, easily winning the event over Whitmoyer of Hamburg, PA, Eckert Jr. of Orwigsburg, PA, Mady and Dylan Swinehart of Fleetwood, PA.
A total of four heat races for 45 Sportsman cars were won by Andrew Kries, John McGovern, Hirthler and Swinehart, with a pair of consolation races going out to Cale Ross and Brad Grim.
“We had real good draws in, both, the heat and the feature tonight and that certainly was a help in where we ended things,” revealed Hirthler.
With 23 MASS 305 Sprint Cars on hand, everyone qualified, with Austin Bishop, Tim Tanner Jr. and Rick Stief winning the heat races. There was no consolation needed.
In the 25-lap main event, it was Andy Best blasting from the pole position into the lead with the green waving, with Eddie Wagner and Bishop, who started from third, in tow.
Lap 6 and again on Lap 7, Chad Connor spun to bring out the caution flag.
When racing resumed it was still Best showing the way, with Bishop now second in front of Brendon Poff out of Richboro, PA for Lap 8.
A caution for Bryant Davis stopping in Turn 3 bunched up the field again after 9-laps. A circuit later, Davis went high through Turn 4, caught the outside boiler plate exiting Turn 4 and flipped wildly near the starters stand to bring out a red flag on Lap 10. Davis walked away uninjured.
Again it was Best on top, on the restart, for Lap 11, but a lap later it was Bishop rocketing underneath Best exiting Turn 2 to become the new race leader racing down the back part of the speedway.
Lap 16 saw the leaders get caught up with lapped traffic, knocking out the second and fourth-place cars as a result, as the caution reappeared.
With the new green it was Bishop over Poff, Wagner and Tom Carberry.
By Lap 19, Bishop was nearly a full straightaway out in front, as he easily went on to score his second win on the tour, this season, and his first career victory at Grandview Speedway. Bishop was celebrating his 20th birthday, a great birthday present.
“If I win, usually, it is on other driver’s birthdays and never on my own,” offered the race winner. “It is a nice little way to reward myself. Normally I don’t have the best of luck, but tonight the track was really racy all night long. It got a little rubbered down and I saw Andy started to wash up through the corner and I ducked in there underneath and got him to get the lead.”
Runner-up was Poff, with Carberry, Wagner and Jason Dunn following.
Tim Tanner Jr. was crowned as the MASS 305 Sprint Car 2018 champion, with CJ Faison winning Rookie of The Year honors for 2018.
Some 32 358 Modified racers showed up to run several practice sessions in order to prepare for the upcoming Freedom 76 event the following night, paying $25,000 to the winner.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NAMES 2018 CHAMPIONS TO HIGHLIGHT SPECTACULAR RACE CARD
Posted by: | CommentsAccord, NY- Accord Speedway Names 2018 Champions To Highlight Spectacular Race Card
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
The final days of the summer acts as the informant to alert fans the 2018 racing season is heading into the final stages of the season. Accord Speedway's final regular season points battles came to a conclusion on Friday evening as damp but muggy weather arrived to the Catskill Mountains of New York state. The Friday evening of events brought out a nice sized crowd to the speedway as the Accord Speedway presented it's "Night of Champions" to the "Gem in the Catskills" facility. All track champions were crowned in the final evening of points at the speedway for the 2018 racing season. The over the top event was sponsored by Orange County Fair Speedway and Taylor Rental. Their websites are: www.orangecountyfairspeedway.net and www.taylorrental.com
With some of the divisions at the speedway beyond tight in the point chases, all drivers with aspirations for a track title had to be at their very best to land in the WRWD Radio victory lane when the racing was completed. Heading up the list of 2018 track champions is "The Montgomery Missile" Anthony Perrego who enjoyed a great 2018 season and finished strongly to capture the Insinger Fuels Modified division title and in doing so captured his second Modified title at the track as he also was champion in 2016. "The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner was dominant all season and captured six wins during the season on his way to his fourth Accord Speedway title in the Arkel Motors Sportsmen division. "The Traveling Man" Mick D'Agostino spent the first few weeks learning a new division but quickly learned the short way around Accord as he scored six wins and remained consistent all season long to place his stamp onto the speedway title in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car division. The Upstate Auto Pure Stock racers had three drivers vying for the title but when the final tally rang down it would be Steve Williams winning the title in the hotly contested Upstate Auto Pure Stock division to earn his second driving title at Accord. The Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder title found Jerry Kingeter the most consistent of a great group of competitors as he waltzed to title in the first year racing division.
The event brought out a nice field of drivers and racing equipment as the event served a dual purpose for the drivers who will be entering the spectacular "King of the Catskills" events scheduled for Saturday night, September 29th. The racing action during the evening was hot, heavy and hectic on the speedway with a few of the track titles still on the line. Anthony Perrego was fast and furious as he captured his third win of the season in the Insinger Fuel Modifieds. Chris VanDuser had a fast set of wheels under him as he claimed his first ever Accord win in the Arkel Motors Sportsman finale. John Hechinger captured his first ever Accord Speedway after a couple of competitors in front of him were found illegal and Hechinger was credited with the win in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock headliner. "Captain Quick" Jeremy Quick dominated the action to win his sixth feature of the season in WRWD Sprint Car action. John Brown took over the lead on lap five and went on to capture his first ever win at Accord in the Rookie Sportsman finale. Two features for the Emmanuel's Marketplace would prove to scramble the Fireballer's point battle with Richard Smith capturing the held-over feature event while Mike Travis had more than enough ammo to shoot down the rest of the field in capturing his first feature win at Accord in the night-cap.
The Insinger Fuels Modified division found the veteran Ken Ferrier jumping out front at the start and setting a torrid pace in the event. Kyle VanDuser, Rich Ricci III and Nick Johnson took up the chase but seventh starting Anthony Perrego was making big waves while charging forward. By lap four Perrego had moved into fourth and one by one those in front of him fell prey to the fast running Perrego hot rod. Moving into the runner-up slot by lap seven Perrego tried a couple of different lines but Ferrier hung tough and continued to dice it out with the newly crowned champion. Perrego cleared Ferrier to take over the lead on lap ten and Perrego was rocking the house with some 13 second lap times to leave the rest of the field in his wake. Perrego would capture his third Accord Speedway win of the season with Ferrier a solid second place finish. Jimmy Wells would hustle to third place while, Mike Ricci and Danny Creeden would complete the top five. Kyle VanDuser would head up the second five with Rich Ricci III, the returning Michael Storms, Jesse Marks and Rich Eurich finishing up the top ten. With the win Perrego also won the qualified spot for the big Eastern States 200 to be held at the Orange County Fair Speedway in October.
The WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature found Jeremy Quick an absolute rocket as he grabbed the lead from fourth starting place on lap one and he would the control the point the entire twenty laps to capture his sixth feature win of the season. MIck D'Agostino claimed runner-up honors and along with it, capturing his first Accord Speedway championship in the process. The Malley Boys, Jordan Lawrence and Dan Malley followed with Gary Huston completing the top five.
The Upstate Auto Pure Stock finale proved to be an exciting as well as entertaining event as Jay Smalley jumped into the early lead with Travis Brockner taking up the chase. Smalley led until lap twelve when he drifted high in turn two and Brockner seized the opportunity to blast into the lead. Brockner would cross the line as the winner with Smalley in second but post race infractions found both cars disqualified and placed to the rear. John Hechinger, who had never won at the speedway in the past, was credited with the win with Steve Williams in second place. The finish would vault Williams to the championship. Emerson Cargain Jr was third while Livy Johnson, Mike DuBois, Chris Kanuk, Tim Southard and Rich Scott following.
Chris VanDuser got off to a phenomenal start in the Arkel Motors Sportsman feature headliner. VanDuser would receive a heap of pressure coming from Leo Fotopoulos, as the young driving star was competing in his final sportsman event before stepping into the Modified ranks. With the top four cars clicking off lap times in the 13.7 to 13.8 second mark, the racing was tight and calculating. VanDuser would never waiver in his quest to capture the win and fought off the advances of Fotopoulos time and time again. VanDuser would cross the line first for his first ever win at Accord while Fotopoulos was the runner-up. The newly crowned champion Kyle Rohner raced from tenth to take over third in the waning laps from the veteran Harry Baldwin who would earn a fourth place finish and Ryan McCartney completed the top five. Corey Cormier, in a second McCartney entry was sixth with Tyler Johnston, Alex VanPelt, Travis Green and Mike Senecal completing the top ten.
Robbie Colburn used his outside pole position start to grab the lead at the start of the WRWD Rookie Sportsman feature. Colburn was on his way to a huge lead but a caution brought the field to a halt. When racing resumed John Brown began to pressure Colburn and would take over the lead on lap six. Brown was fast but Colburn remained behind him throughout the remainder of the event with Brown winning his first main event at the speedway. Colburn would be the runner-up with Brian Durbin, Jeff Higham, Michael Corbin, Erin Paulison and Samantha Muller completing the field.
The Fireballer's held-over feature found Ken Barringer jumping out front early on and holding onto it despite constant pressure from a trio of hot rods. Barringer would lead until lap twelve when tenth starting Richard Smith pulled even with Barringer as they raced out of turn four. As they crossed the starting stripe Smith nosed his way into the lead and took over the lead for good in turn one. Smith would race to his fifth win of the season with Barringer second in what may have been his best finish of the season. Ed King, Brandon Conklin and Jeff DeGroat rounded out the top five while Willie DeGraw, Dave Bendell, Mike Travis, Jerry Kingster and Bob Clarke completed the top ten.
The second event for the Fireballer's, Ryan Heady jumped out front and led for two laps before Mike Travis found the baseline to his liking and he took control of the lead. From then on it would Travis separating himself from the field as he cake-walked into victory lane for his first win in 2018. Jeff DeGroat, Richard Smith, Ed King, George Barringer, Brandon Conklin, Brent Shaddock, Ken Barringer, Bob Clarke and Nicole Nelson complted the top ten.
GEMSTONES:
Despite the weather, Promoter Gary Palmer, gave the competitors a great track to race on resulting in some of the fastest times of the season in most divisions. The talented roster of drivers tested the many racing channels of the speedway throughout the evening in preparation for the blockbuster "King of the Catskills" spectacular coming up on September 29th and sponsored by Insinger Fuels.
Heat race action in the Modifieds found Rich Ricci III and Nick Johnson capturing victories. Alex VanPelt, Matt Shultz and Leo Fotopoulos scored heat wins in the Sportsman action. The Pure Stock heats went to Emerson Cargain and Travis Brockner. Mick D'Agostino captured the Sprint Car heat win. The rookie heat win went to Robbie Colburn. Fireball Heats were claimed by Ryan Heady, Mike Travis and Jerry Kingeter.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Bob Sleight.
