Sheldon Haudenschild Wins Thriller on Night One at Skagit on his 25th Birthday
ALGER, WA – August 31, 2018 – Sheldon Haudenschild celebrated his 25th birthday in style, sliding Shane Stewart for the lead coming to the White Flag on Night One of the Outlaw Energy Showdown at Skagit Speedway to win his 5th World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Feature of 2018. Stewart did everything in his power to get back by Haudenschild but settled for second in the thrilling finish. Rico Abreu completed the podium in his first Outlaw start at Skagit.
California fan favorite Rico Abreu won the Sears Craftsman Dash, earning the pole for the 30-Lap Feature alongside Shane Stewart. Abreu got the jump on the initial start to lead the opening lap before action was halted for a backwards Jacob Allen, who spun to avoid a logjam of cars with one lap complete.
Abreu chose the bottom on the ensuing double-file restart and led the field down the backstretch but Shane Stewart, a two-time Outlaw winner at Skagit, got a massive run on the cushion off of turn four to lead Lap 2. As Abreu searched around the race track, Sheldon Haudenschild snuck by into second on Lap 4 and began closing in on Stewart.
Stewart and Haudenschild gave the Skagit Speedway fans a glimpse of what was to come on Lap 7 as Sheldon got underneath Stewart to lead down the backstretch, only to have Stewart blast back around to lead the lap at the line by a hair.
The intense action halted on Lap 10 when Keoni Texeira spun to a stop. On the opposite end of the track, Jason Solwold’s eventful evening continued as he stopped with a flat right front tire. Solwold would return, but Texeira would not.
The ensuing double-file restart saw contact in the back of the pack and Austen Wheatley end up in the infield with damage that would end his evening. Following that, the decision was made to conduct single-file restarts the rest of the evening.
Lap 13 saw Solwold’s night go from bad to worse as his No.18S went end-over-end down the backstretch into turn three after incidental contact with Jacob Allen. Solwold walked away from his mangled car under his own power.
The remaining 17 laps went Green-to-Checkered and they did not disappoint. Haudenschild hawked the veteran Stewart through heavy lapped traffic, keeping the crowd on the edge of their seat as the drivers navigated a tacky racing surface.
Haudenschild looked to be within striking distance multiple times, but remained patient until the perfect opportunity, which came on Lap 28. Stewart bobbled ever-so-slightly on the treacherous cushion off of turn four, opening a narrow window for Haudenschild to pounce and the young Wooster, OH native did just that.
Haudenschild threw his NOS Energy Sponsored, Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall racing No.17 hard into the corner and inched in front of Stewart at the edge of turn four. Stewart and Haudenschild made slight contact after the slide job but both drivers kept going under the White Flag. Stewart tried one last ditch effort to get the lead back coming to the checkered, but to no avail as he would finish .311 behind Haudenschild in an exciting Feature.
“I knew I was running out of time and had to make something happen. I don’t think my slider was dirty, you kind of had to stop his momentum to pull it off. I know he bumped by back bumper, but on a small track like this, I think you’re going to have some wheel-banging and the track tonight was beautiful,” Haudenschild said in Victory Lane.
Shane Stewart despite the tough finish remained in good spirits, “I thought we were going to have one, I knew Sheldon was going to be tough. I thought I was getting through lapped cars pretty good, but I jumped the cushion just a little bit coming to the White and allowed Sheldon to get a good run on me. That’s how these races go, you can’t stub your toe, can’t slow down at all or you’re going to get passed.”
Rico Abreu, who has been following the Outlaws back to his home state of California since Knoxville, came home third in his first Outlaw start at Skagit. “This place races great. I didn’t get to the top soon enough on that restart and that’s where we lost the race. My car was perfect and I’m excited for tomorrow,” an upbeat Abreu said.
Though it was Sheldon Haudenschild’s fifth win of the 2018 Season, it was his first since Fairbury back on June 5th. “To get a win after not winning for a while feels really good. I can’t thank Ricky [Stenhouse Jr.], the Marshall family, our sponsors and my crew guys enough,” Haudenschild added in Victory Lane.
Joey Saldana was strong all night and finished fourth with Brad Sweet completing the top five. Ian Madsen, in his first look at Skagit Speedway, earned KSE Hard Charger honors coming forward 10 positions to 12th.
Washington’s own and former World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series regular Jason Solwold had a night he will certainly never forget, for all the wrong reasons. Solwold set Quick Time over the field, only to have a water pump issue on his team’s only 410 motor. The team was forced to change to their 360ci engine for the Heat Race, where he fended off numerous charges to finish second to advance to the Dash. While that was ongoing and during the intermission and dash draw, Solwold and the team successfully scrambled to fix the water pump issue on the 410 in time for the Feature. All for the Burlington, WA native to get a flat tire 10 laps into the Feature while running eighth and go for a wild ride down the backstretch three laps later. Fortunately, Solwold was uninjured in the accident, but the rest of his weekend remains in jeopardy.

COURTNEY DELIVERS A STONE COLD PERFORMANCE IN GRANITE CITY

Granite City, Illinois......August 31, 2018 - Tyler Courtney hasn't visited Tri-City Speedway that often throughout his racing career. In fact, Friday night marked just the fourth visit to the 3/8-mile dirt oval for the Indianapolis, Indiana driver. But, each time, it's been in a different type of car, from a micro, to a midget and to a winged sprint car.
Yet, it doesn't seem to matter what type of track Courtney visits this year. If it has a victory lane, seemingly, Courtney knows how to find his way there after 30 laps, which he did again for the ninth time this season in USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car competition, leading the final 21 laps and warding off an all-out assault from Brady Bacon and Kevin Thomas, Jr. during the final laps to score his 15th career series win on night one of the Brandt "River Town Showdown" in his Clauson Marshall Newman Racing/Priority Aviation - Competition Suspension, Inc./Spike/Rider Chevy. The triumph ties him with Bobby East, Cory Kruseman, Jud Larson & Brian Tyler for 33rd all-time.
Courtney rolled off from the fourth-starting position, while C.J. Leary rocketed around the outside of pole sitter Chase Stockon to occupy the top spot off turn two on the opening lap, where he would remain for the first nine circuits.
On the tenth lap, Courtney seized the opportunity, diving to the bottom of turn one and sliding up in front of Leary to capture the lead. Leary surged back toward Courtney and the two made contact off the exit of turn two, sending Courtney sideways down the back straightaway. Courtney recovered as Leary made an attempt to reclaim his once-owned land up front to no avail.
Following a yellow for Kyle Stearns losing a wheel on his machine with 10 laps complete, Courtney was dominant up front with a clear track ahead of him after the lap 11 restart, breaking away to a 1.5 second advantage in the ensuing laps. Meanwhile, a jostling of position took place just behind with Bacon slipping by Leary for second off turn two on the 14th lap and, moments later, Thomas getting around Leary for the third position.
With less than ten to go, Courtney began to find himself mired in a minefield of traffic. As the heart rate began to race and the interval began to shrink, the plot thickened. One false step and the race could be handed over to the surging Bacon. Courtney took every action and reaction he could to stay afloat, splitting between the lapped cars of Daron Clayton and Mario Clouser entering turn one with six laps remaining to create some sorely-needed separation and buy a little bit of time.
"The lapped cars didn't want to go a lap down," Courtney recalled. "They're racing and doing their job. It's part of it. You have to get around them and just hope that you get around them at the right time and hope the guy behind you is going to struggle as well. Tonight, that wasn't the case. Once I got around him, he seemed to be right on my butt."
With four laps to go, Courtney drifted into turn one to split between lappers Isaac Chapple and Jadon Rogers. As Courtney swung wide, Bacon was glued to the bottom and found the drive to surge ahead to the lead briefly. Moments later, at the exit of two, Courtney looked like a rock in a slingshot, finding the grip to blast back past Bacon around the outside of the back straight to retake the lead.
Like Rockwell, Courtney felt like somebody, namely Bacon, was watching him and his every move, so he figured he'd better take action sooner rather than later.
"I knew someone had to be close because I wasn't getting through (turns) one and two very well, but I didn't know what else to do," Courtney replayed. "He showed me a nose there and I thought he was running all the way at the bottom. So, I went down to the bottom and he drove around me on the outside. I was kind of like, 'man, I don't know what to do here.' Luckily, we had a yellow there where I could regroup and look at the track a little better. I knew I was going to have to protect and I knew the (Thomas) was going to race (Bacon) really hard, which, obviously, played in our favor."

One lap later, the two switched roles entering turn one. Courtney stuck to the bottom and Bacon swept out wide from the bottom of one to the top of two. Bacon found the traction on the topside of the exit of turn two to pull ahead entering the third turn, but Courtney slid up in front of Bacon to maintain the top spot just as the yellow flew for an incident involving fifth-place running Justin Grant and Clouser between turns one and two, setting up one final restart for the win.
"Three laps are a lot with the guys we got in the series right now," Courtney admitted. "I knew they were going to have to be three perfect ones."
Courtney got a good jump on the field, but it was Thomas who was the one to watch down the stretch as he put himself right into contention for the victory, shooting past Bacon off turn four with two laps to go, then running down and applying some serious pressure to Courtney.
Courtney admits those final laps following the restart weren't exactly perfect, but they got the job done, holding off one final attempt by Thomas into turn three on the final go-around to win his ninth race of the year over Thomas, Bacon, Robert Ballou and Dave Darland.
Courtney became only the second driver in the last 15 seasons to have nine USAC National Sprint Car wins before the end of August and the first since Ballou's nine at this same juncture in 2015. Ballou eventually tallied up 13 total wins, second-most in a single season behind Tom Bigelow's record 14 in 1977.
Also, of note, Courtney became the newest series point leader by a single marker over Windom. Just six points behind the leader in the third position is Thomas in one of the closest point races in the history of the sport.

Tim Shaffer wins Dirt Classic Ohio opener at Attica Raceway Park
ATTICA, Ohio (August 31, 2018) - Adding to an illustrious career resume that now includes 63 Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victories, the ‘Steel City Outlaw’ Tim Shaffer opened the 2018 Dirt Classic Ohio at Attica Raceway Park with a victory, this time holding off Lemoore, California’s Carson Macedo and Republic, Ohio’s Cap Henry to do so. The $5,000 victory was Shaffer’s seventh at the Attica highbanks during All Star competition, taking the lead officially on lap nine with a bold move in traffic.
“This is awesome. I hope I have a lot more years left in me,” an elated Tim Shaffer said in Attica Raceway Park victory lane, driver of the Rudzik Excavating No. 49X. “This team is really working together and this new RPM car is awesome. Cody [Jacobs] is doing an awesome job. The whole Rudzik gang is here tonight. They are just a great group of guys to be with. We started the year off high, but kinda leveled off through the middle of the year. Now we are starting to get back rolling again. It feels great.”
After a caution during the initial start that included Lee Jacobs and Dave Blaney, the Dirt Classic Ohio opener at Attica Raceway Park was officially underway with Carson Macedo earning the early jump over pole-sitter Tim Shaffer and Travis Philo. Macedo drove away in clean air for the first five circuits, quickly catching the tail-end of the field as the leaders approached the flagstand to complete lap six.
By lap seven, Shaffer was clearly on the move and powered forward to pull even with Macedo to create a side-by-side battle for the top spot. The top two battled wheel-to-wheel for the next two circuits until Shaffer made a bid for the top spot on lap nine, using Attica’s infamous cushion to slingshot around Macedo at the exit of turn four to complete the circuit. Although traffic created an instant roadblock for the four-time All Star champion, the chaos quickly came to a close as caution flags appeared once again on lap 11.
Green flag action soon returned with Shaffer navigating an open track and clean air. It was not until lap 16 when traffic came back into the picture, and even then, Shaffer’s pace at the front of the field was uninterrupted. Although Shaffer raced in cruise control, it was the action behind him that was beginning to heat up which included Macedo, fifth-starting Cap Henry, fourth-starting Travis Philo, and third-starting Brock Zearfoss, all battling and exchanging positions inside the top five.
Cap Henry, who undoubtedly was working the hardest to get near the front, utilized the lap 11 restart to move into fourth around Zearfoss, eventually working by Philo to take the third spot on lap 14. Soon thereafter, Zearfoss, the newly hired gun for Destiny Motorsports, also worked around the familiar No. 5T of Travis Philo to lock down the fourth spot on lap 23.
Continuing his shuffle toward the front, Henry pounced once again, this time using a gnarly slide job in traffic to get by Macedo to take the runner-up spot on lap 29. Unfortunately for Henry, a momentum shift in the form of a caution on lap 31 erased all possibility of hunting down Tim Shaffer in traffic. The caution was soon followed by red flag conditions on the ensuing restart, this time for Broc Martin, who was also the culprit in the earlier caution. Despite taking a wicked tumble outside of turns one and two, Martin walked away unharmed.
The green flag waved once again giving Tim Shaffer clean air and an open track to work with. As Shaffer resumed his commanding lead, it was Macedo who took advantage of the restart, ultimately working by Henry to regain the runner-up spot. As the laps clicked up to 40, the top three remained the same with Shaffer holding on to earn the Dirt Classic Ohio opening night victory, followed by Macedo and Henry at the final checkers.
“The yellow flags actually played in our favor, but I really didn’t mind the traffic,” Shaffer continued. “Cody gave me a car that was able to move all around the race track so the traffic wasn’t an issue. I actually put my wing a little too far back there toward the end and I thought maybe I was going to give it up, but it all worked out. You could really move all around tonight; top, bottom, through the middle. Hats off the track crew here tonight. They did an awesome job. Tomorrow is a whole new night. We’ll have to put ourselves in position, but we are going to try and do it again.”

Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer ushered in the start of Labor Day weekend on Friday evening and completed their fourteenth show of the season with a great seven division show and the special eliminator event for Sportsman racers sponsored by Race Director Dave Rocket and racer Jamie Yannone from Yannone Enterprises. While Mister Sun stayed away and a cloud cover remained over the speedway, the great crowd on hand enjoyed an excellent night of racing. The evening of speed was sponsored by long-time speedway supporters Tom's Repair Shop located in New Paltz, New York.
When the final tallies were recorded, "The Wild Child" Andy Bachetti switched rides to the Jimmy Winchell owned race car and waltzed off to his third win of the season at Accord in the Insinger Fuel Modifieds. "The Tornado" Tyler Johnston rocketed into the lead on lap eight and went on to capture his first win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman main event. Bob Sleight had his Camaro humming and scored his second win of the season in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature event. "The Captain" Jeremy Quick had a super fast hot rod as he raced to the lead early on to score his fifth win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature. Travis Green raced to his third win of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature. The Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder feature was captured by "Quick" Willie DeGraw as he scored his first ever win at the speedway. The Northeast Vintage Modifieds found Darryl Hulbert racing to his first ever Accord Speedway win in his Kennedy Garage replicar machine.
Ed Burgess and Nick Johnson brought the field down for the start of the thirty lap Insinger Fuels 30-lap headliner for the Modifieds. Burgess would lead for a lap and he would fall to the high flying Andy Bachetti as Bachetti took control of the event early on. A massive four car pile-up on the homestretch brought a halt to the action as the crash eliminated a three cars from the event. On the restart it was all Bachetti as a couple of laps later would find him riding the crest with a six car length lead. Danny Tyler broke free and began to drive away from the field with Rich Ricci Jr in a solid third. As the laps clicked off Bachetti remained in command and things behind him began to take on a new look as Anthony Perrego, riding a hot streak of late, found the line he was seeking and began to pick off cars in his march to the front. Perrego would race to third place late in the event but this night belonged to Bachetti as he dominated the action and scored his third win of the season at Accord. Danny Tyler was steady throughout the event and would settle for runner-up honors while Perrego was third. Rich Ricci Jr was fourth and the birthday boy Jimmy Wells would complete the top five. Mike Ricci would head up the second five with Danny Creeden seventh, Steve Davis raced back through the field to garner eighth place, Kyle VanDuser was ninth and Jesse Marks completed the top ten.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman event pole sitter Nick Plumstead jumped out into the lead in a new ride. Plumstead would lead until lap eight when Tyler Johnston, running third, would find a sweet spot between turns one and two to drive underneath Plumstead and second place man Charles Loiodice to take command of the lead. Once in front Johnston slipped away from the field while Cole Hentschel broke away and would race in second place. Two cars began to make their way forward through the very tough field as Kyle Rohner from eleventh and newcomer Alex Yankowski from fifteenth were taking no prisoners on their way forward. Tyler Johnston owned the event on this night as he sped to his first win of the season. Hentschel was the runner-up with Rohner in third place, Yankowski was fourth and Charles Loiodice, who continues to impress, was fifth. The second five found Nick Plumstead, RJ Smith, the returning Corey Cormier, Mike Senecal and Matt Shultz completing the top ten.
John Brown would lead from the first lap in the WRWD Rookie Sportsman headliner. Robbie Colburn and Travis Green kept the pressure on and Green would slip past Colburn and begin to reel in Brown. With five laps remaining Green had closed the gap to where the drivers were nose to tail. With two laps to go Green made a bid that fell short but after the white flag fell the pair raced into turn one when Brown slid high and Green dove to the bottom to stick the nose of his racer into the lead when Brown came off of the turn and connected with Green. Heads up by driving by both drivers allowed them to regain control of their cars and Green would race to the checkered flag for the win. Colburn slipped past Brown to gather in second place while Brown settled for third. Brian Durbin, Kyle Swart Erin Paulison and newcomer Dan Knoth would complete the field.
In the Upstate Auto Pure Stock event, Emerson Cargain would lead the initial lap before Bob Sleight took over the point. Steve Williams quickly made his bid for the lead and he and Sleight would race together for a couple of laps before Sleight gained the advantage. Sleight would race away to a six car advantage that remained throughout the remainder of the event. Sleight would score win number two for the season while Williams would settle for second. Cargain was third while Jay Smalley had a stout run in fourth and Steve Kanuk was fifth. Live Johnson headed up the second five with Travis Brockner, Rich Scott, the returning Mike DuBois Jr, newcomer Codi Clark, Tim Southard and John Hechinger.
Dan Malley would lead the first three laps of the Sprint feature event. Jeremy Quick would go to work and would begin to close in on Malley and would hustle into the lead on lap four. Quick had a fast hot rod and would distance himself from the field. A late scramble would bring the field together. Quick just had too much for the field and would score his fifth win of the season. D'Agostino secured runner-up honors and Jordan Lawrence, Mike Traver, Dan Malley, Mark Connoly and Andrew Davis would complete the field.
In the Fireballers feature, Brandon Conklin grabbed the lead at the start and would lead through the first three laps before yielding to Willie DeGraw. DeGraw did just enough to keep his racer in front while fending off challenges from Conklin, Jerry Kingeter and Richard Smith. Some slugging and slamming took place in the late stages that found DeGraw racing to his first ever win at Accord. Point leader Jerry Kingeter was second with Brandon Conklin third, Bill Rion fourth and Dave Bendell completing the top five.
The Northeast Vintage Modified event found Jimmy Halpin with a fast Dodge Coupe as he raced to the lead for the first five laps. Darryl Hulbert would do a slide job to take command of the event on lap six and a few laps later Mike Houghtaling slid into the rear of the Halpin machine and the action caught Ray See Sr with heavy front end damage. Houghtaling was disqualified from the event. On the restart, Hulbert had the speed and style to go on a capture his first ever win at Accord. Charlie Houghtaling was second with Bob Schmidt third, Bill Judge fourth and Jimmy Halpin recovering to claim fifth. Bill Leise headed up the second five with Doug Atkins, Mike Cole and John Atkins following.
GEMSTONES:
The track was in impeccable condition from top to bottom as Promoter Gary Palmer had a perfectly manicured speedway. Andy Bachetti had the fast time of the night in the Modifieds with a 13.5 second time with Rich Ricci Jr turning in second fat time with a 13.724 time..
Heat wins went to Rich Ricci Jr, Andy Bachetti and Danny Tyler in the Modified division. Three heats were needed for the Sportsman with wins going to Leo Fotopoulos, Danny Morgiewicz and Tyler Johnston. The Rookie Sportsman heat was captured by John Brown. Jeremy Quick captured the sprint car heat win. The Pure Stock heat wins went to Steve Williams and Bob Sleight. Fireball heat winners included Richard Smith and Brandon Conklin. Vintage heats went to Jimmy Halpin and Ray See Sr.

New faces found Ray See Jr and Steve Davis returning to competition. Davis had an early skirmish that sent him to the back of the field but he ran steady and smooth and wound up with an eighth place run. "The Gunslinger" Jesse Leiby found his way to Accord and was 14th in his initial outing. Leiby is a former four time champion at the speedway in the Slingshot divisions. Barry White made the long haul from Berks County to put in his first race at Accord in some time. John Lutes Jr also joined the field but was unfortunately caught up in the front stretch melee.
In the Sportsman, Alex Yankowski joined the field. The young charger will be crowned the Five Mile Point Sportsman champion and another title is looming at the Big Diamond Speedway. Alex is another of the fine driving talents that cut his teeth in the Slingshot divisions of racing. Mike Bull, Jimmy Leiby and Ryan McCartney also returned to the speedway. Dan Knoth, a former Pure Stock racer, raced with the rookies for the first time. Mike DuBois Jr, Codi Clark and Tim Southard also made appearances at Accord in the Pure Stock division.
Bob Harless escaped injury when his vintage coupe climbed the inside barrier on the homestretch.
The Sportsman Eliminator action found Kyle Rohner winning the grand prize of $300.00 while Danny Morgiewicz was second and earned $200.00 and Alex Van Pelt was third to earn $100.00. The rest of the top ten were Matt Shultz, Cole Hentschel, Leo Fotopoulos, Charles Loiodice, Anthony Recchio, Tyler Johnston and Ryan McCartney.
The Speedway announced throughout the evening the New York State Auto Racing Network Statement regarding Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. MODS AT THE MADHOUSE TO SHOWCASE $5,000 TO WIN 21ST ANNUAL TRAFFIC JAM PLUS SPORTSMAN AND SPRINTS
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (August 29, 2018) . . . . Two traditions come together at the Grandview Speedway on Saturday night, October 13 to close out the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series for 2018.
The popular fun for all House of Thunder Halloween Party will treat the fans with the 21st running of the 40 lap Traffic Jam for Big Block Modifieds & 358 Modifieds. Also on the program will be the Sportsman and MASS Sprints. Pit gates will open at 2:30 PM, the front gate will open at 4 PM and race time is set for 6 PM.
Advance tickets may be ordered by calling 443-513-4456. Please speak clearly and leave your name and the number of tickets you would like. Tickets may be paid for and picked up at the Will Call Window on race night after 3:00 PM. Advance ticket holders may enter the grandstands at 3:30 PM, one half hour prior to general admission tickets going on sale at 4 PM. Advance tickets orders will be available until 9 AM on race day, Saturday, October 13, then general admission tickets go on sale at 4 PM.
This haunting Halloween trick-or-treat celebration will spotlight the Modified Traffic JAM which is rich in history that started in 1998 when Brett Hearn took the initial win. In the twenty year history of the Traffic Jam, Hearn is a four time winner. Tim McCreadie, Billy Decker and Matt Sheppard are two time winners of this event. Drivers who have one Traffic Jam victory include Jimmy Horton, Frank Cozze, Tim Fuller, Alan Johnson, Danny Johnson, Craig VonDohren, Jeff Strunk, Duane Howard and Rick Laubach. The defending Traffic Jam winner is Brett Kressely, making it his first Traffic Jam victory and first Thunder on the Hill win.
$5,000 will go to the winner of the 40 lap Traffic Jam with a hefty $1,000 for tenth and $500 just to start the main event. A special rules package is offered as a ‘treat’ to the region’s competitors, with both American Racer and Hoosier tires allowed for competition, and either Big-Block or Spec Small-Block engines permitted. There is no entry fee but drivers must pre-enter to be eligible for the posted payoff. Drivers may pre-enter by calling 443 513 4456.
The popular Sportsman division is also on the card, competing for a $1,300 top prize for 25-laps of competition on ‘the hill.’ A loosened tire rule is in effect for the Sportsman – competitors are allowed to compete on Hoosier or American Racer rubber. Grandview Sportsman rules are in effect and competitors are allowed to run sail panels. Full rules are available on the Grandview Speedway website.
The MASS Sprint Cars will compete in heat race qualifying action and a 25-lap A-Main. Standard MASS club rules apply to competitors.
The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series presents Mods at the Madhouse 40 Lap Traffic Jam – the conclusion of the 29th season of Thunder action – featuring the popular Halloween Party, is a full-show with three divisions of racing action including a Big-Block vs. Small-Block Modified challenge Traffic Jam, the Sportsman division, and the MASS Sprint Cars.
Fans are invited to come dressed for the occasion, Halloween costumes will be the popular attire of the night with awards going out to best dressed for children and adults. Please expect some Halloween candy and of course, this night always provides some tricks and treats along the way.
The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series Halloween Party has been a staple of the Grandview Speedway schedule for over 15 years and will once again include the fan Costume parade. Race fans young and old are encouraged to dress in costume to be eligible for special Halloween prizes.

Hamlin, PA: Mom & Pop Smith Memorial For Hampton RV Stage One Modifieds Headlines Saturday's Race Card At Hamlin Speedway

Hamlin Speedway, located in the picturesque Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, is closing in on the final three weeks of the 2018 racing season. With that, some special events remain on the horizon for the talented drivers and the great racing fans who have supported the speedway all season long. The racing action has been great all season long and more of it is expected as the season winds down and ushers in the Labor Day holiday this weekend.
This weekend on Saturday, September 1st, Hamlin Speedway will host the annual Mom & Pop Smith Memorial event for the Hampton RV And Trailer Stage One Modifieds. The headliner will feature the stars and cars of the Stage One Modified division and the exciting division has been growing all season at the speedway. Led by the defending track champion, "The Nickel Man" Joel Smith, the roster of talent for the division is as diverse as it is exciting. Smith leads the way with four wins in the division and is also doing double duty in the 600 Sprints and has scored one win in that division. "TVD" Tanner VanDoren, Adam Buchel and Cody Motto have each scored a pair of wins in the division and Motto is coming off a solid win from last Saturday night. "The Jeff-a" Jeff Hineline, "The Branchburg Bandit" John Comandini and "Chops" Anthony Chrobak have each scored single wins and all would like nothing more than to grab up another win at the speedway. Chrobak scored his win in only his second appearance in the division.
The supporting cast of division stars has been quality all of the way with Amanda Buchel putting on great shows all season long. "The Jersey Force" Anthony Recchio has been held winless in 2018 but the young driving star has scored two wins in the family owned Sportsman racer at Accord Speedway. "The J-Man" Jasper Ziegafuse recently took over the controls of the second Bachetti owned racer and has made great strides with the equipment. Jacob Nemeth is another of new racers at Hamlin and is now in his own equipment after purchasing the former Vreeland racer. "The Golden Boy" Evan Civick recently enjoyed a runner-up finish for his best performance of the season., John Bachetti Jr has gained a lot of momentum this season and along with Stoudsburg's Joel Price and many more, the division has enjoyed a stellar season in racing.
The event is an annual affair at the speedway named in honor of the Roy and Evelyn Smith. The Smith name has remained synonymous to the local racing scene for the past six decades as Roy Smith was a pioneer in the golden era of racing with his signature numbered 555 race cars that had many top drivers wheeling the equipment such as Freddy Adam, Bobby Bottcher, Billy Tanzosh, Mr. Del George, George Sleight, Marty Acker, Johnny Cabral, Warren Mutter and Richie Smith among them. With the passing of Evelyn Smith in January of 2018
at the age of 93, the tradition of the event will become the Mom & Pop Smith Memorial event. The 2012 winner was Joel Smith. In 2013 Pat Bealer was a surprise entry and captured the win. In 2014 and 2015 Joel Smith was back in victory lane. Damon Paul was victorious in 2016 and in 2017
"Rapid Rich" Smith, while leaving the driver's seat in the mid-90's, has utilized his years of knowledge while steering a race car to come up with a scaled version of the full sized Modified cars he drove to many wins during his driving career. The cutting edge, sleek looking Stage One Modified is the finished product from Smith Fabrications and the cars are eye-catchers when on display or at speed. Incorporating his solid background in racing and the technical know how to improve upon the finished product, the Stage One Modified is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship from the master fabricator Richie Smith. Lap sponsorships are available for this great event. The laps are $10.00 each and all of the money collected will get distributed right back to the drivers. It is a great cause for the division as the racing has been exciting and competitive all season long. All lap sponsors will be named before the event goes green on Saturday night.
If you have not yet experienced an evening of racing at Hamlin, next week would be the ticket to come out and witness the best small car division racing in the country. With only three shows left in 2018, the drivers will have to be at their best should they have aspirations on earning a track title.

ENTRIES NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR SECOND ANNUAL EAST COAST INDOOR DIRT NATIONALS AT TRENTON; 2017 ENTRANTS ENCOURAGED TO FILE BY AUGUST 31, DEFENDING CHAMP KIDD FILES FIRST ENTRY
TRENTON, NJ August 27, 2018 . . . In the aftermath of the critically acclaimed inaugural, entry blanks for the Second Annual East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals were recently mailed to the competitors and teams who helped make the first race an artistic success. New entries will now be accepted for the event to be held December 14th and 15th at the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, N.J.
All 2017 competitors who intend to race this year and have not returned their completed entry forms should do so prior to the August 31st deadline. At that point new entries will be accepted.
“Pit space is limited at the CURE Insurance Arena,” said promoter Len Sammons. “That’s why we are requesting an early entry return from last year’s drivers. After August 31, we will begin accepting entries from teams that did not compete last year.”
The first official entry returned for the event was received from Whitey Kidd III, the upset winner of the inaugural race last December. Kidd, who qualified through the B-Main and started deep in the field. The 36-year-old Staten Island, N.Y. resident made a late race pass on Collegeville, Pa.’s Alex Bright to win the thriller. Brian Carber of Pipersville, Pa. passed three cars in the final corners to end up third with USAC Sprint Car series rookie Tim Buckwalter and a very exciting Austin Quick rounding out the top five.
One of the reasons for the success of the race was the quality of the racing thanks to an unbelievable dust free banked speedway surface built with rich black clay.
“Everyone was thrilled by the track surface which offered three grooves of racing,” said Sammons. “The top drivers thrilled the fans, running low, pounding the outside cushion or sneaking in between. The fast-paced presentation left the fans wanting more. This year’s race should be even better.”
Title sponsorship for the event is currently being sought. Event sponsors Oliver Communications Group, Hoosier Racing Tires, and VP Racing Fuels are returning to back the race once again. Reserved seat spectator tickets went on sale August 16 and are available at www.cureinsurancearena.com
One change in ticket offerings is that event organizers will offer upper-level seating with a reserved seat or a general admission option. Reserved upper-level seats assure ticket buyers the choice of their favorite seats. General admission upper-level seating is available as a less costly alternative, but without the guarantee of specific seats.
A limited amount of premium front-row seats and suites are available for each night. Saturday’s front row seat will also include a special pit area tour prior to the start of racing action.
The Friday, December 14 events will feature heat races and semi features. Points earned throughout Friday’s program will be used to lineup alphabet mains on Saturday night, December 15.
Racing starts at 7PM on Friday and 5PM on Saturday.
