Donny Schatz Wins Knight Before Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway
ROSSBURG, OH – July 13, 2018 – Donny Schatz passed Brian Brown on Lap 10 and never looked back en route to his Knight Before the Kings Royal victory at Eldora Speedway. It was Schatz’ 275th career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory. Greg Wilson charged from 14th to finish second, with Sheldon Haudenschild completing the podium in the non-stop Feature.
Brian Brown won the first Sears Craftsman Dash to earn the pole for the 30-Lap Feature, alongside Hunter Schuerenburg, who won the second Dash. Brown, in search of his fifth career Outlaw victory, set the pace out front of the field as Schuerenburg remained within striking distance.
Donny Schatz, who started third, recovered from his start and got by Tim Shaffer for third on Lap 5, but not without making heavy contact with the outside retaining wall in turn two. The contact didn’t faze Schatz at all as he began chasing down Schuerenburg and Brown for the lead.
On Lap 9, Schatz ducked underneath Schuerenburg for second and one lap later, using the same line, Schatz took the lead from Brown. From there, Schatz began to work through lapped traffic in an attempt to extend his lead while all eyes were on Greg Wilson.
Wilson, a former Outlaw Eldora winner, was charging forward from his 14th-starting spot. Wilson took third from Schuerenburg on Lap 21 and surpassed Brown a lap later for the runner-up position. Wilson, glued to the extreme bottom of the racing surface, then set his sights on Schatz. Sheldon Haudenschild was in hot pursuit of Wilson running the polar opposite line, banging down the cushion. Haudenschild worked by Schuerenburg and Brown on Lap 23 to move into third. Wilson closed slightly in traffic, but Schatz had built too much of an advantage and went on to win his 14th Feature of the season by 2.273 seconds.
“It got real slick,” Schatz said after the race. “I think my car was best in the middle and it’s not exactly my bag of tea to bounce off the cushion every lap,” Schatz added with a smile. “Greg [Wilson] is really good when the track gets like that. I know if I do everything right, there’s not many people that will pass this 15 car, but Greg is one of them. We’ve got to a get a little bit better tomorrow for 10 more laps or Greg will kick all our asses,” Schatz said in good spirits.
Wilson had high praise for Schatz following his personal season-best finish. “That 15 car man, he’s the best out here and the cleanest race car driver I have ever raced with,” Wilson said before thanking the Eldora Speedway track crew for providing an excellent dry-slick racing surface.
Sheldon Haudenschild was pleased with his third-place finish and looks forward to Saturday’s King’s Royal.
“My crew has done a phenomenal job and I think we’ll be right there tomorrow. I can’t thank the fans for being great all weekend,” Sheldon said.
Early race leader Brian Brown fell to fourth at the checkered flag with Dave Blaney charging from 22nd to complete the top five and earn KSE Hard Charger Honors. Heading into Saturday’s Kings Royal event, Shane Stewart and Donny Schatz, with their wins on the first two nights of the weekend, have earned the right to go out in Qualifying wherever they please during Saturday’s $50,000 to win program.
With the unique Kings Royal format being utilized, Saturday’s event will be show up points only for the World of Outlaws regulars. If you can’t make it to the track, watch all the action LIVE on DIRTVision.com as the 35th Annual Kings Royal crowns a champion.

On a close to the cuff muggy evening, Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer completed their eleventh Friday night show of the season. The seven division event found two new winners emerging during the evening while some familiar names were at the top of their game to come home with a victory in their respective divisions. The racing has proved to be spectacular throughout the season and the trip to the WRWD Radio Victory Lane is always a sweet end to a great evening. Other than the muggy day, the weather cooperated fully and the enthusiastic crowd came out to the speedway to enjoy an evening of speed. The evening was sponsored by Pine Bush Equipment who have two locations in New York and one location in Connecticut. They brought along two showpieces of equipment for the fans to see up close and staff members from Pine Bush were on hand to answer many questions asked of them. Their website is: www.pbeinc.com
When all was said and done, "The DC Express" Danny Creeden was in top form as he got out front early and then held off the challenges of a solid core of driving talent to speed to his first win of the season at Accord in the Insinger Fuel Modifieds. "The Jersey Force" Anthony Recchio proved once again there is still plenty of wins left in his 2001 Bicknell race car as he led start to finish to pick up his second win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman main event. Emerson Cargain worked all of the angles from the bottom to the top of the speedway and rolled on to his fifth win of the season in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature attraction. "The Travelin Man" Mick D’Agostino worked hard to find his way around the much improved Dan Malley but he did and continued with his winning ways by capturing his fifth win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature. "The Angle" Cole Stangle had the hot ticket and he sped to his third win win of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature. The Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder feature was captured by Jeff DeGroat as he went wire to wire for his third win of the season. The Emmanuel's Marketplace Four Cylinder Enduro run was captured by Gene Helms in what was determined to be his first ever win at the speedway.
"The Lightning Bolt" Rich Ricci III and Richard Smith brought the field down for the start of the thirty lap Insinger Fuels 30-lap headliner for the Modifieds. Ricci was quick at the start led heading into the first turn. Ricci would lead the first five laps before being overtaken by Creeden on a restart. Creeden would quickly build onto the lead and threatened to run away and hide. Another caution slowed the pace but on the restart Creeden would continue from where he left off but now had "Iron" MIke Ricci, Andy Bachetti and Anthony Perrego on the move to challenge.
Good solid battles were the hot topic for the fans as Mike Ricci and Andy Bachetti put on a great duel until Ricci won the upper-hand. With two laps remaining, Perrego, who was a bear at all points of the race track, expired a motor leaving the event to just a two lap shootout. Creeden would lead the final two laps to capture his first Accord win of the season. MIke Ricci was a strong second with Andy Bachetti nailing down a third place finish. Jerry Higbie came on late and scored a fourth place while Rich Ricci II completed the top five with one of his best ever performances at the speedway. Rich Ricci Jr finished sixth while the returning Kevin Ward, Jesse Marks, Joe Judge and Steve Davis completed the top ten.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman event found outside pole sitter Anthony Recchio sprinting into the lead at the drop of the green flag and then just glued his race car to the top-side of the speedway. Recchio had no problem building up a huge lead as his father's former mount was up to the task on this evening. A late caution brought the field together, erasing Recchio's lead but Recchio would not be denied as he raced to his second win of the season. Kyle Rohner raced from eighth starting place to finish second with Alex VanPelt in third, Leo Fotopoulos fourth and Tyler Johnston fifth. An interesting side bar here is the top six finishers all transitioned from the Slingshot ranks. The second five had Cole Henstchel, Jamie Yannone, Dan Morgiewicz, Matt Shultz and Mike Senecal completing the top ten.
Cole Stangle would lead from the first lap on and even though Travis Green mounted a solid effort to catch him, Stangle prevailed and earned his third win of the 2018 racing season. Green was second with Michael Corbin third and the remainder of the top five being Brian Durbin and newcomer Zack Murray. The birthday girl Erin Paulison headed up the second five with Billy Fiske, Robbie Colbyrn, Kyle Swart and John Brown completing the top ten.
In the Upstate Auto Pure Stock event, Ray Tarantino led the first lap before giving way to John Hechinger. Hechinger would remain at the point until lap seven when Emerson Cargain whistled on by him. Cargain seized the moment as he led the rest of the way but could not shake off the efforts by Hechinger, Steve Williams and Travis Brockner. Cargain truly earned his fifth win of the season with Hechinger, Williams, Brockner and Bob Sleight Jr following. Making up the rest of the finishers were Ray Tarantino, Livy Johnson, Steve Kanuk and Richie Scott.
Dan Malley would jump into the lead at the start in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint feature. The first year sprint driver looked strong as he held off another first year driver Mick D'Agostino. D'Agostino, who coming into the evening, had secured four wins at the speedway, would challenge through the first half of the race found an opening and base-lined his way underneath Malley. The pair of racers went at it tooth and nail for a couple of laps before D'Agostino took over for good. D'Agostino would race to his fifth win of the season with Malley a strong second. Jordan Lawrence, Mike Traver, Mark Connelly and Gary Huston completed the field.
In the Fireballers feature, Jeff DeGroat grabbed the lead at the start and would go to lead every lap for the win, his third of the season. It wasn't easy as Jerry Kingeter would put up a strong challenge all of the way to come up a few feet short but good for second place. Richard Smith was third followed by Ed King and Nicole Nelson. The rest of the top ten were Willie DeGraw, Dave Donovan, Anthony Tarantino, Ken Barringer and James Conklin.
The Emmanuel's Marketplace Enduro event was a thrill a second event. Dave Donovan took the early lead and threatened to run away from the field but he hit slower traffic and Jerry Kingeter reeled him in quickly. As Kingeter was passing Donovan for the lead in turn two, Donovan squeezed Kingeter into the unforgiving Boilerplate fencing and it sent Kingeter upside down. Kingeter was not hurt in the incident. On the restart, Richard Smith inherited the lead and he too would run down the slower cars and when he did Gene Helms came onto the scene giving all he had and Smith and he traded the lead back and forth. With a few laps remaining, Smith expired a motor and Gene Helms would race to the win by a whisker with a very determined Johnny Bankich chasing him down. Jeff DeGroat was third followed by Brandon Conklin and Travis Conklin.
GEMSTONES:
The hotly contested racing action was completed at 10:49 PM.
Heat wins went to Jesse Marks, Rich Ricci III and Danny Creeden in the Modified division. Three heats were needed for the Sportsman with wins going to Mike Senecal, Danny Morgiewicz and Harry Baldwin. The Rookie Sportsman heats were claimed by Michael Corbin and Brian Durbin. Mike Traver captured the sprint car heat win. The Pure Stock heat wins went to Emerson Cargain and Ray Tarantino. Fireball heat winners included Jeff DeGroat and Willie DeGraw.
New additions to the speedway included Kevin Ward in the Modifieds. Kevin Borden was on hand making his initial start of the season at Accord. Ray Tarantino was back at the controls of his regular mount this week. Zach Murray was a new addition to the Rookie Sportsman. Dave Donova was new addition to the ever increasing Fireballer ranks.

Grandma Anne's Pies were distributed to all feature winners. as well as part of the 50/50 raffle. 101 Cars signed in for the night of racing.

Shane Stewart Breaks Through for First Win of 2018 During Jokers Wild at Eldora Speedway
ROSSBURG, OH – July 12, 2018 – There’s no denying it has been a tough year for Shane Stewart and the Kyle Larson Racing No.2 team. That changed in a big way on Thursday evening at Eldora Speedway when Stewart passed Jacob Allen on a Lap 10 restart and never looked back, scoring his first World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Feature win of 2018. Tim Shaffer and Donny Schatz completed the podium.
David Gravel won the Sears Craftsman Dash, earning the pole for the 30-lap Feature in search of his fifth victory of the season aboard the CJB Motorsports No.5. Gravel led the opening lap with Shane Stewart, who started next to him, close in tow.
While those two separated from the field, all eyes were on Jacob Allen who charged from his ninth-starting position to take third on Lap 7. Two laps later, Allen, glued to the bottom, took the lead to a large roar from the Eldora Speedway crowd in search of his first career Outlaw triumph.
Gravel and Stewart battled for second, with the duo making contact and Gravel ending up backwards with 10 laps complete. “I thought I had David clear, it was all my fault. I don’t ever want to race like that,” Stewart said after the race in good jest.
Allen elected the bottom on the double-file restart, but it was Stewart taking control of the field down the backstretch in the Kyle Larson Racing ENEOS-sponsored No.2 machine.
Stewart stretched out the lead around the famous Ohio half-mile as Tim Shaffer and Donny Schatz began their charge forward. By Lap 20, Shaffer had worked by Allen for second and set his eyes on Stewart. Schatz stormed by Allen for third on Lap 24. Shaffer closed in on Stewart in lapped traffic, but never truly challenged the Bixby, OK native for the lead as Stewart would win his first Feature of the season by 1.665 seconds.
“I never want to win a race by crashing a guy," Stewart said in Victory Lane before savoring the triumph.
“We’ve been close to winning a couple of times this year, hopefully, we can have some momentum now and get rolling. It’s always special to win at this track,” Stewart said in Victory Lane. “To get a win going into the Month of Money is huge, I feel like we have a pretty good package right now. We’ll see how the next two nights play out, I’m looking forward to it,” Stewart added after the race.
Tim Shaffer’s second-place finish was the best of his 2018 Outlaw campaign. Shaffer, a two-time Outlaw winner last year, charged from eighth to fourth in the Sears Craftsman Dash railing the cushion.
Donny Schatz, who won both Outlaw events at Eldora in May, settled for third. “We’ll be a little better on Saturday for 10 laps more. The race track here can be tricky,” Schatz said in good spirits, in anticipation of the rest of Kings Royal weekend.
Kerry Madsen, the Jokers Wild winner last year, charged from 16th to fourth with Brent Marks completing the top five. Marks started 20th and his effort was good enough for KSE Hard Charger Honors.

KTJ SCORES SECOND CAREER "CHAD McDANIEL MEMORIAL" AT SOLOMON VALLEY

Beloit, Kansas.....July 11, 2018 - Prior to Wednesday night's 9th annual "Chad McDaniel Memorial," the last appearance of Kevin Thomas, Jr. at Solomon Valley Raceway in 2015 resulted in a victory.
Likewise, the most recent appearance of Joe Dooling's No. 63 at Solomon Valley in 2016 resulted in a victory.
When you blend the ingredients of Thomas, Dooling and Solomon Valley, it's bound to be a recipe for success.
The Cullman, Alabama native became the first repeat winner of the 2018 USAC P1 Insurance National Midget season, leading all 30 laps on his way to a second "Chad McDaniel Memorial" win.
However, the road to victory lane from the pole position wasn't as smooth and pretty as it may appear on paper. Thomas admits that he was playing with fire on multiple occasions, nearly throwing away a surefire victory despite an otherwise perfect performance.
At the beginning, though, Thomas was flawless, grabbing the lead by a wheel at the line after battling with outside front row starter Logan Seavey for the entirety of the first lap. When Seavey stumbled at the exit of turn four on lap two, Thomas capitalized and immediately posted a half-straightaway lead. By the eighth lap, Thomas had already entered lapped traffic with a full-straightaway advantage.
With half the 30-lap distance in the rearview and Thomas on full Rad Racer cruiser mode, the beginning of the second half would prove topsy-turvy up front.
On the lap 16 restart following a Tyler Thomas flip, second-running Seavey clipped the turn two infield tire, losing ground that was all to Ryan Robinson's advantage as he took possession of second from Seavey and initiated his pursuit of K. Thomas.
However, on the 18th lap, K. Thomas got completely sideways between turns three and four. Robinson had nowhere to go and rammed into the side of the K. Thomas machine, kickstarting Thomas back into action, but accepting the brunt of the misfortune as he stopped at the edge of the infield to bring out the yellow. Robinson would restart from the tail and manage a 13th place finish by race's end.
Thomas knew he got away with one on this occasion, but that's racing, and on a bullring like Solomon Valley, it's sometimes a vicious part of the game.
"You had to be aggressive tonight because there were holes you had to get through to keep your tires spinning," Thomas recalled. "You couldn't go in there half-cocked. I did a few times and it about cost me the race. It was unfortunate for Ryan Robinson. He got turned around because of my mistake. That's small track racing. He did nothing wrong. It's just unfortunate that happened to him."

Seavey got a reprieve and returned to second for the lap 18 restart, but Thomas was money once again, distancing himself from Seavey and, ultimately, widening the gap to a full-straightaway with five laps remaining as he tussled with lapped traffic, escaping with relative ease.
Thomas was in complete control down the stretch as he raced to his fourth career USAC National Midget feature win and his second at the quarter-mile in the north central Kansas birthplace of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Rodger Ward. Second went to Seavey, followed by Justin Grant, Jason McDougal and Tanner Carrick rounding out the top-five.
"Bryan (Clauson)'s won this race a couple times and I've won this race a couple times now," Thomas reflected. "To win it the second time in the 63 that he won in, and in memory of Chad McDaniel, there's a lot of emotions running into one victory lane. I'm very humbled by the opportunity I've gotten with this team. Being able to win these races is something I can't even speak of."
Coming into Wednesday night's race, seven different winners had reached victory lane in the first seven events of the season, the longest such streak since 1987. Yet, Thomas was keen on putting an end to that factoid by winning his second series feature in his last three outings following a triumph in the "Indiana Midget Week" finale at Kokomo Speedway in June.
To Thomas, the fact that the season reached the mid-point of July to find a repeat winner, shows the talent and depth of the field he faces every time he steps into a USAC Midget, making each victory that more meaningful to him.
"Some people complain about midget racing," Thomas begins. "They say they run into each other too much or they drive disrespectfully. You've got a lot of people out there with a lot of talent and a lot of good racecars. It's good racing. Sometimes you get into people and that's not the way racing should be, but you're racing on fifth and quarter-miles, really small tracks. It's bound to happen. I'd like to see anybody else who complains about it get out here and do it and not run into something. You've got a lot of kids out here with a lot of talent. There's a lot of depth and it's hard to win a midget race right now. It's so tough. You've got to be on your game and you can't make mistakes, and if you do make a mistake, you just got to hope for the best. Tonight, we got lucky with one of my mistakes and still ended up winning the race, but nine out of ten times, that doesn't happen."

Chris Martin Breaks Through With The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series In Wyoming
Bryan Hulbert - GILLETTE, Wy. (July 11, 2018) Taking care of his first top-five, podium, and victory with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com in one shot, Iowa's Chris Martin led start to finish at Gillette Thunder Speedway on Wednesday night.
Joining Skylar Gee as the second first time winner in as many events this week with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Chris is the 144th winner with the series and 13th different driver to top the National Tour this season.
Holding off early charges from Skylar Gee, followed by several mid and late race advanced from Sam Hafertepe, Jr., the Global Ag No. 44 was able to keep all challengers at bay.
"I knew it wasn't going to be easy. I've been watching these guys for a long time, even before I started racing Sprint Cars and I knew that Sam and Seth were coming. I knew Johnson was going to be there, and my buddy Blake; he's been on a roll, so I knew he'd be coming. Then Skylar Gee's been rolling pretty good lately, so this win is really special. It just feels awesome to be standing here," stated Chris who celebrated with donuts that would make Jesse Hockett smile.
Changing his line throughout the 25-lap A-Feature on a near perfect racing surface, Chris was able to work through slower traffic with ease.
Lapping into the top-ten before the race's first caution while working Lap 18, Chris would restart with a pair of slower cars between himself and the Heidbreder Foundation No. 15h.
With five laps to run, however, that buffer would not be there as the caution flew again. With a run to the inside of the No. 44, Sam would come up shy with a small bobble off the turn-four berm.
Giving Chris breathing room, he was still far from being out of danger as Hafertepe regrouped with a full head of steam. Down into the final laps, Sam would close in but would not be able to steal away the win as Chris crossed with a 0.614-second advantage.
Hafertepe in second was pursued to the line by Seth Bergman, who made up three positions on Lap 18 to get to the third spot. Coming from 12th, Blake Hahn made it to fourth following a multi-lap battle with Wayne Johnson who crossed fifth.
In the battle with Blake and Wayne, the sixth spot ended up going to Travis Rilat with Johnny Herrera in seventh. Skylar Gee ended up eighth with Scott Bogucki and Matt Covington making up the top-ten.
A new destination for the series, the next outing for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com will be on Monday, July 16 at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, S.D. for the Brandt Professional Agriculture Shootout.
Admission for the Monday affair is $20 for adults with kids 10 and under admitted free into the grandstands. Racing begins at 7:00 P.M. (CDT) in includes IMCA Modifieds and Super Stocks. More information on the track, including direction, can be found at http://www.browncountyspeedway1.com.

BELL SCORES KUNZ'S 100TH USAC MIDGET WIN AT USAC'S RED DIRT DEBUT

Meeker, Oklahoma.....July 10, 2018 - In the illustrious history of Keith Kunz's tenure as a car owner, no individual has won more USAC National Midget feature events than Christopher Bell.
Perhaps it was most fitting that it was Bell who drove Kunz's machine to victory lane for the 100th time with the series at "Tuesday Night Thunder" in USAC 's Red Dirt Raceway debut.
The Norman, Oklahoma native drove to his 22nd USAC National Midget victory Tuesday, tying Bobby East and Shorty Templeman in career wins as he moved into the top-25 on the all-time list.
Just as fitting may have been the fact that Bell did it in front of his home state crowd, which saw the series visit the Sooner State for the first time since 1975, in his Motorsports-Curb-Agajanian/TRD - IWX/Bullet by Spike/Speedway Toyota.
"It's just really cool to see how many people were here," Bell said. "USAC hasn't been here for a long time. Honestly, Oklahoma's dying for professional motorsports, so it's nice for USAC to be able to come in here."
While the eyes of many were affixed on the first sight of USAC Midget in the state in over four decades, even Bell had not laid eyes on Red Dirt Raceway since a brief session there earlier in the decade.
"I tested here one time after the Chili Bowl in maybe 2011 or 2012," Bell recalled. "I'm pretty sure it was an abandoned racetrack back then. I hadn't seen the place since (track promoter) Cody (Brewer) had redone it. It was pretty perfect. They got it to where we could run all the way to the very top and all the way on the very bottom. You couldn't ask for more."
You would have never known that fact by watching Bell after he laid down fast time in qualifying, then picked his way through the field and into second by the ninth lap of the 30-lap feature as his KKM teammates Ryan Robinson, Tanner Carrick and Logan Seavey each took their turn at the front of the pack.
Each driver found multiple ways to navigate to the front, with Robinson up top, Carrick crawling on the bottom and Seavey finding the bottom on the sixth lap to grab the lead. Meanwhile, Bell was searching, taking any avenue he could find as he swapped sliders with Robinson to move into second behind point leader and race leader Seavey. Bell rode the top as he attempted to reel in Seavey, yet Carrick wasn't quite finished yet, as he drove underneath Bell to retake second momentarily.
"I knew my car was really good from the get go," Bell said. "We had that yellow and, next thing you know, the 71K (Carrick) is leading me. I didn't even see him go by me! But I knew he started seventh, so I figured the bottom must be there. He was really good. He could run down. He could run up. It was just a matter of me getting my momentum built up top for me to get by."

Though a bit stunned, Bell stood his ground and drove back past Carrick on lap 14 to move back into second just prior to a yellow flag for Dave Darland, whose car slowed to a stop between turns three and four. With a clear track and a clear mind, Bell had just himself and Seavey to deal with.
Briefly, for a lap following the lap 15 restart, Bell followed Seavey on the bottom, but that was not in his long-term plans as he quickly whipped back up to the top with a hard-charging Carrick right on his tail tank entering turn one. The bottom at first seemed the place to be with Seavey holding about a ten car length lead, but that gap would narrow steadily over the ensuing laps as Bell stayed the course, ripping the lip.
On the 19th lap, his work would pay dividends as Bell finally surged ahead just prior to hitting heavy lapped traffic where the 2013 series champ diced from top to bottom to escape the clutches of Seavey's return.
"I think it was A, me gaining momentum and B, figuring out the top," Bell said regarding the why he was able to run down Seavey. "I figured out a trick in where I could kind of open up my entry into (turn) three on the top and that helped me gain a lot of speed off of four. I figured it out a little bit and it was a matter of just not making mistakes. It was very treacherous right on the lip in one and two. It had some character, had some bounce to it, and I was trying to not go over."
Bell appeared to be well on his way to victory when Ace McCarthy spun between turns three and four, setting a three-lap sprint to the finish. Bell led the field high through three and four prior to taking the green, then darted to the bottom in turn one, disallowing any chance of Seavey throwing a slider for the lead.
"Logan was really good on the bottom," Bell pointed out. "I felt really good on the bottom earlier in the race. It was just a combination of things. The top was getting really thin and it was pretty rough up there. Then, on the restart, the tire pressure is going to be a little bit lower. I'm thinking about how I don't want my tire to be low and get up there and bounce over. I felt good on the top of three and four, so I was just going to go to the bottom of one and try and drive off hard, then go back to the top in three."
Bell did just that, punctuating his first USAC start of the year with a W by a tick over half a second in front of Seavey, Carrick, Jerry Coons, Jr. and Brady Bacon.
