HIRTHLER, BOCK AND JENNINGS GAIN FEATURE WINS AT GRANDVIEW SATURDAY NIGHT
50TH ANNUAL FORREST ROGERS MEMORIAL SET FOR SATURDAY, AUGUST 1
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. July 26, 2020 . . . All three features on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway were down-to-the-wire duals between the race winner and runner-up with close to 90 cars racing.
The T.P. Trailers Modified NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts 30-lap feature was a battle till the bitter end between Kevin Hirthler, as he became the first repeat winner in the Green Lane/Wm. Penn, Pioneer Pole Building No. 117, and defending point champion Duane Howard.
Kenny Bock took advantage to take over first in the 25-lap T.P. Truck Equipment NASCAR Sportsman feature when rookie racer Dakota Kohler went too high and hit the fourth turn wall with two laps remaining. Kohler was able to continue, but fell to third as Jesse Leiby scooted underneath for second to challenge the leader. Bock, who thanked his parents and crew for their support, was able to withstand Leiby’s moves to score his first career victory after trying so hard and leading on numerous occasions in the past to become the fifth different winner in the class this season.
Eric Jennings ducked underneath leader Joe Biasi on the 21st lap of the 25-lap Winged Super Sportsman feature and held off Biasi’s late race challenges to go on to collect the win..
Providing the Modified and Sportsman feature winners met the necessary requirements, they received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and a certificate from VP Fuels for product awards. The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award recipients were Hirthler and Kohler. Jesse Leiby earned an extra bonus from the track for being the highest crate engine finisher.
Kenny Gilmore set the pace for the first lap of the Modified feature before Hirthler, who had a dismal 20th-place finish the previous week, put the Dave George power plant, which was the sportsman car he would run on occasions with his modified engine underneath the hood, into the lead.
In a few laps Hirthler opened daylight leaving Gilmore, Ron Haring Jr. and Brett Kressley in a three-way battle for second trailed by Brad Grim and Briggs Danner.
Ryan Lilick stopped in the fourth turn on the eighth lap and the pack regrouped during the eighth lap yellow. Hirthler held his line when action resumed, but now he had to deal with Kressley, who was trying feverishly to get by him leaving no margin to error.
Back further in the pack trying to get to reel the front runners in were Gilmore, Haring and Howard.
Lapped cars later allowed Kressley and Howard to get on Hirthler’s bumper.
Fourth place runner Haring Jr. had his night end on the 23rd lap when he came to a halt in turn three for the second and final caution period. On the restart Hirthler chose the outside lane since his car was hooked up on the high lane and Howard had to deal with the inside trek. Hirthler was off and running on the restart. By this time last week’s feature winner and 2018 point champion Mike Gular joined the heated battle. Waiting in the wings for a slip up were Kressley and Rick Laubach.
Hirthler was able to keep the competition at bay to post his 14th 358 Modified victory. Coming up a half-car length short was second place finisher Howard followed by Gular, Kressley and Laubach. Ryan Grim, Jeff Strunk, Craig Von Dohren, Danner and Doug Manmiller completed the top ten.
Kressley, Danner, Gular and Gilmore won the heats. The consies were won by Manmiller and Ryan Lilick.
Bock took the early lead at the start of the Sportsman feature with pressure from Bryan Rhoads, Dakota Kohler, Derrick Smith and Dean Bachman.
It didn’t take Bock long to out distance himself while Kohler, Rhoads, Smith and Bachman tried to erase the margin.
Defending point champion Brad Brightbill spun in the second turn as his season misfortunes continued bringing out the ninth lap yellow. The restart was void when Ken Eckert Jr. hit the second turn wall. Bock led for three more laps after the restart before Kohler moved into first on the 12th circuit.
As the race progressed Kohler kept going higher getting close to the wall and with two laps remaining the inevitable occurred and he was into the fourth turn wall. He continued, but by this time Bock and Leiby were by him for first and second.
A first turn tangle between Lex Shive and Kyle Lilick set up a one-lap shoot-out. Bock knew who was behind him on the restart and didn’t hesitate when the race continued and went on to chalk up the triumph. Finishing a close second was Jesse Leiby with Kohler, third; Mark Kemmerer, fourth and Smith, fifth. Sixth through tenth were Brad Arnold, a feature race winner this year; Chris Esposito, Nate Brinker, John McGovern and Brian Hirthler.
Heats went to Rhoads, Kohler and Bock. The consi was won by Chris Esposito.
Cliff Brian was the early pacesetter of the Winged Super Sportsman feature while Rohan Beasley, Kevin Gutshall, Derek Sheaffer and Eric Jennings challenged.
Brian held onto first until the eighth lap when Biasi passed him to become the new pacesetter.
While Biasi showed the way, Brian and Jennings put on quite the shuffle for second.
With five laps to go Jennings was second making his presence known to Biasi, who was running the high groove.
Coming off the fourth turn Jennings dove underneath Biasi to take over first on the 21st lap and stayed there until he pulled in victory lane. Chasing him across were Biasi, Steve Wilbur, Brian and Brett Periogo. Gutshall, Craig Perigo, Jason Failor, John Stehman and Michael Smith finished sixth through tenth.
Beasley and Biasi won the heats.
Next Saturday night, August 1st, one of the most popular events of the season will be presented. A large field of Modified racing talents will be on hand trying for the win in the $10,000 to win 50th Annual Forrest Rogers Memorial, a 50-lapper for Modifieds. In addition the Sportsman stocks will be part of the doubleheader show.
An added attraction will be the Acoustic Band featuring 1973 Freedom 76 winner Roger Knappenberger and his son Pete an auto racing radio personality. The band titled Maddie-Pearl will perform in the first turn pavilion from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
And as is the norm the folks from the Low Down and Dirty Radio show will be presenting their Meet & Greet at the main gate starting at 5 p.m.
Adult admission is $25 while youngsters 6 through 11 pay just $5. And kids under 6 are admitted free. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for spectators and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Rain date is Saturday, August 8th.

CAPITALIZING MOMENT: Shane Stewart Wins Summer Nationals Opener At Williams Grove
Ten-time World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz extends points lead with runner-up result
MECHANICSBURG, PA – July 24, 2020 – Shane Stewart was ready to hang up his helmet at the start of the year.
Instead, he wore it in Victory Lane Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway for his first World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win since June of 2019.
“There’s no better feeling,” Stewart said about winning with the World of Outlaws at Williams Grove. “This isn’t my best track, but I’ve had good runs. Just was never able to capitalize on the win. Just happy to be here.”
After losing his full-time ride with CJB Motorsports at the end of 2019 and no firm prospect on a full-time ride for this year, Stewart considered quitting racing. But before he let that thought become law in his head, Bernie Stuebgen called to offer a part-time deal in the Indy Race Parts #71 car.
It was an offer Stewart knew he had to capitalize on. And he has, even before Williams Grove, putting the #71 in the top-five about every time he hit the track with it. A win was near, but still missing each time.
The half-mile Williams Grove Speedway is not the track he expected to get his first win with the team at either. Stewart won at the speedway in 2017, but never pieced together consistent finishes after.
However, during the opening night of the Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals, Stewart was the maestro of the paperclip-shaped clay oval.
He won his Drydene Heat Race and then won the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, putting him on the pole for the 25-lap race.. Then, when the main event went green, he rocketed ahead of second-place Anthony Macri, of Dillsburg, PA, and pulled away from the field.
From then on, no one could touch the Bixby, OK driver. Stewart’s car looked to have 10 more horsepower than everyone else the way it launched ahead of the field on restarts and added seconds between them every lap.
On a restart with 13 laps to go, Macri threw a slide job at Stewart going into Turn 1 and took the lead. His stint out front lasted about two more seconds before Stewart fired his car back underneath Marci on the exit of Turn 2 and darted down the backstretch like he was shot out of a canon to reclaim the lead.
He led all 25 laps to claim his 35th career World of Outlaws win and become the 10th different winner this year with the Series.
Ten-time Series champion and current points leader Donny Schatz made his way from fourth to second, ending the race 1.5 seconds behind Stewart.
“We were missing lap traffic. I was thinking to myself, ‘Thank God we have double file restarts on these big tracks, or we’d be spread out pretty quick,” said Schatz, of Fargo, ND. “Everybody’s car was good. Everybody’s motors are good. It’s really a game of chess at high speed. We needed traffic. Every time we got close a yellow would come out. That’s the way it goes.”
With his performance, and reigning champion Brad Sweet finishing seventh, Schatz was able to extend his points lead over Sweet again – now 16 points ahead of the Kasey Kahne Racing driver.
Macri ended the night third – his second ever top-five and top-10 finish with the World of Outlaws – after starting second, but still took his performance as a victory.
“It’s a win in our book,” Macri said. “To run third to these guys, there’s definitely no shame in that. We struggled a little bit tonight. We just kept pushing through. On the one restart I knew I had the chance to slide him (Stewart). So, I slid him and kind of bobbled on the curb and he got by me. I kind of lost my composure there for a lap or two. I think Donny got us the next restart. Shit happens.”
Stewart gave a lot of credit for his dominating win to Stuebgen – who had won a World of Outlaws race at Williams Grove before with Gio Scelzi in 2018 – and his Charlie Garrett Racing Engine.
“We spent the day at Charlie Garrett’s yesterday, and we had stories of (two-time World of Outlaws champion) Jason Meyers and all of the success he’s had with Brian (Brown) and Jason,” Stewart said. “He told me story that the first time he met Jason he told him, ‘Hey, I’m going to see you in Victory Lane tonight,’ because that was the first time that Jason had run one of Charlie’s motors. And Charlie puts such joy and pride in his motors that he puts a little bit of pressure on you. And he said the same thing to me tonight. He said, ‘I’ll see you in Victory Lane.’”

SEAVEY LOGS GAS CITY ISW OPENER IN EPIC DUEL WITH THOMAS

Gas City, Indiana (July 24, 2020).........Friday night's introduction to the 2020 edition of NOS Energy Drink Indiana Sprint Week at Gas City I-69 Speedway produced one of the wildest finishes in the 33-year history of the series, punctuated by a memorable duel between Logan Seavey and Kevin Thomas Jr. that truly defined the fine line between the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.
Competing for nearly the entirety of the second half of the 30-lap feature side-by-side for the lead, Seavey and Thomas tangled in turn three while working their past a lapped car, sending both of the frontrunners over the turn three cushion. Thomas' car came to a stop while Seavey motored on without stopping, bent draglink and all.
Thereon, Seavey finished off the victory in a green-white-checkered battle with Chase Stockon to collect his first career ISW victory and his second in USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car competition aboard the Reinbold-Underwood Motorsports/AME Electrical - Mesilla Valley Transportation/Spike/Fisher Chevy.
"Happy to finally get a win," Seavey exhaled. "We finally found the balance and the confidence tonight early, and that's what I needed. We made a big mid-week decision to stick with what we have. We've been struggling all year and we're debating on getting a new racecar. I talked to the boys and I told them I was confident in the racecar we got right now. I thought we could win with this car and we finally came out and proved it tonight."
Sutter, California's Seavey started his race from the pole position, but endured an early onslaught from outside front row starter Chris Windom who slid past Seavey for the spot momentarily in turn three before Seavey cut back under to preserve the lead on the opening lap.
On the third lap, Windom biked hard atop the third turn cushion, very nearly toppling over before landing back on all fours and driving on, although it dropped him from 2nd to 10th in the running order, thus elevating Thomas to the runner-up spot with Seavey showing the way up front. It didn't take long for Thomas to track down Seavey, however, utilizing the bottom of the quarter-mile's surface while Seavey worked the middle groove.
A caution on the 13th lap involving 4th running C.J. Leary, 5th place Brady Bacon and the 7th car in the order, Tyler Thomas, at the exit of turn four, took out several prime contenders. Chase Stockon, running 6th at the time, managed to eke through the melee like a Plinko ball, putting some cosmetic damage on the rear end of his car.
The ensuing restart saw an immediate halt to the action with Windom (7th), Robert Ballou (8th) and A.J. Hopkins (12th) all getting ensnared in a turn one kerfuffle. Only Windom out of the bunch returned to competition, finishing 11th.
Once racing resumed, it became a non-stop duel between Seavey and Thomas that, in a four-lap span between laps 19 and 22, saw the pair exchange the lead four times officially at the line. The two alternated big runs on the top (Seavey) and bottom (Thomas) with neither separating themselves by much further than a single car length.
"I saw his nose basically the whole race," Seavey recalled. "I knew I really needed to get by that first lapped car but anytime I'd get close, I'd make a mistake and let KT back on a run. I felt like we were side-by-side for the whole second half of the race and I knew I just needed to get it going up top. Anytime I felt like I gained a little momentum and got an edge on him, I'd make a mistake."
Seavey took back the lead on lap 22, and at moments, was able to extend the advantage to three or four car lengths over Thomas. Despite trying the bottom in the earlier stages, Seavey decided to marry himself to the high line and knew that if he didn't make any mistakes off turn two like he did earlier in the race, he'd be golden, but it was going to take near perfection by one or the other down the stretch to capitalize on any misstep, no matter how slight it might have been.
Seavey led at the stripe on the white flag lap by a half-car length as he and Thomas approached the car of Jadon Rogers in the 19th position at the tail end of the lead lap. Rogers was glued to the bottom just as the rapidly approaching Thomas was behind him.
Exiting turn two, Thomas had one of two decisions to make - either follow Rogers into turn three or try to split to the outside in front of Seavey. Thomas chose the latter, then chaos ensued. The end result saw contact on entry between Thomas' right rear and Seavey's left front wheel, sending Thomas careening airborne over the top of the turn three cushion and Seavey spinning toward the guardrail. While Thomas stopped, Seavey miraculously kept his ride off the guardrail and continued on.
"(Thomas) got that big run off the bottom getting in," Seavey remembered. "He knew he had to slide me, and I knew I had to beat him out of four. He got across the racetrack a lot faster than I thought he would. I was trying to turn down and it was way too late by that point. I have no idea how I drove away from it. I'm not really sure how we didn't turn over or land in the pits. That's where I thought I was going."
Meanwhile, for Thomas, one of his better runs of the year ended in heartbreak as he sought his first series victory of the year.

"We had the lapped car on the bottom and my only shot was to squeeze up to the top getting into three," Thomas explained. "I got a decent run, but I don't think good enough. He got a good run too, but I couldn't really see him going down the back stretch. I tried to give room but tried to slide a little bit too. I just made contact and screwed myself."
With the contact nearly turning Thomas over amidst the cloud of dust, the red flag was displayed. By rule, once the red flag was displayed for Thomas, the 360-spin rule was no longer in effect for Seavey. Thus, Seavey was positioned back at the front of the field for the restart with two laps remaining.
"I knew my draglink was a little bent," Seavey admitted. "My steering wheel was a little sideways. I know that's just kind of a comfort thing. I knew everything was going to be fine."
Everything turned out fine for Seavey, the 2018 USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget champion, who then had to withstand the challenge of 2015 Gas City ISW winner Chase Stockon. Stockon pulled even with Seavey exiting turn two on the restart and was just a car length behind Seavey at the line on the bottom.
On the final lap, Stockon didn't quite get the drive he strove for off turn two while Seavey nailed the top to surge ahead and capture the victory by three car lengths - 0.472 sec. - over Stockon, Justin Grant, Kyle Cummins and Thomas Meseraull.
Meanwhile, the previous year's Gas City ISW winner, Shane Cottle, secured the KSE Racing Products / The Frolic Bar & Grill Hard Charger of the night, finishing 7th after starting 21st.
USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car point leader Justin Grant earned Fatheadz Eyewear Fast Qualifying honors Friday at Gas City, the 25th of his career, which moved him ahead of past series champions Gary Bettenhausen and J.J. Yeley for 16th on the all-time list.

ATTICA, Ohio – Penngrove, California’s Michael “Buddy” Kofoid knocked on the door to victory lane a lot at Attica Raceway Park in 2019. On Friday, July 24, 2020 he kicked the door wide open in a dominating performance aboard the Keith Kunz Motorsports 410 Sprint Car for his first career win at “Ohio’s Finest Racing” speed plant on Morgan Stanley/Steinle Chevrolet Buick/Sutton Bank Night Presented by Integrity Auto and Truck sales
Kofoid’s, who has been driving the Kunz midgets to victories this season, gave his dad a fantastic birthday present as well.
While Kofoid was rocketing away out front, all eyes were on Trey Jacobs as he worked his way from 19th starting spot to a second place finish. Chad Kemenah, Cale Conley and Christopher Bell rounded out the top five in the Callie’s Performance Products 410 sprint feature.
“When we qualified first in our group and third overall I knew we had some speed. Quite frankly in our heat I don’t think we should have been. We were able to lead all 30 laps and I was glad we didn’t have too many yellows and I was able to keep running my pace. It was my first time driving for Keith at Attica and my first time driving any other sprint car other than the 11N here so to do that and win is pretty darn cool. I’m glad to finally get the monkey off my back. I feel like we’ve been second so many times, third so many times and always right there. To bring some midget guys and turn them into sprint car A-main winners is pretty cool,” said Kofoid aboard his IWX Motor Freight backed #67.
The victory came on an All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series (AFCS) Presented by the Baumann Auto Group night for the 410 sprints and with his third place run coupled with bad luck for Cap Henry and Caleb Griffith, Chad Kemenah certainly closed the gap in the standings.
Britton, Michigan’s Devin Shiels survived two restarts with just one lap to go to score his second Propane.com/Dirt Nerds Pod Cast Late Model win of the season at Attica. The victory for the track’s 2017 division champion was the eighth of his career at the raceway.
“You start hearing things that aren’t there and don’t hear things that are. When that 23 car spun out coming to the checkers I probably yelled loud enough for him to hear. We struggled here last year but are going pretty good here but we’re struggling at Oakshade so we are getting to like Attica a little better,” said Shiels beside his Magic Fountain Auto Wash, Rally’s Hamburgers, Dirt Nerds Podcast, Dundee Products, Banshee Graphics, Performance Machining backed #51.
Sandusky, Ohio’s Kyle Capodice took the lead from Matt Foos with just six laps to go and held off a late race rally from Paul Weaver to score his fifth career Attica win in the Fremont Fence 305 Sprints. With Weaver finishing second, Foos third, Mike Keegan and Kyle Peters rounding out the top five, the chase for the NAPA Auto Parts of Bryan 305 AFCS Presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales title has become very tight.
“I stayed consistent down on the bottom once Matt (Foos) moved back down to the bottom. I could see myself consistently reeling him in and reeling him in and once I go to his back bumper and then beside him. Once we got into the lead it felt like it was taking forever…I was just waiting for the white flag to fly,” said Capodice beside his Rob Butts and Lynette Lawless, Franklin Sanitation, Barnes Nursery, Fred Wolfe Auctioneer, Burns Electric, Kistler Racing Products, Greber Racing Components sponsored #12.
Caleb Griffith and Paige Polyak brought the field to green for the 30-lap $4,000 to win Spanky’s Pizza of Carey A-main for the 410 sprints. But third starter Kofoid grabbed the lead over Polyak, Griffith, Cale Conley, Cale Thomas, TJ Michael, Travis Philo and Chad Kemenah. A quick caution after a lap was scored was the only thing that kept the field close to Kofoid.
Kofoid built a sizeable lead when a nasty look crash took place on the front stretch involving Craig Mintz, Nate Dussel and Cap Henry but thankfully no injuries were incurred. On the restart Kofoid drove away while Conley took second. The action was for third involving Griffith, Kemenah, Thomas and Polyak.
Just as the leaders were to hit heavy lapped traffic Griffith spun on lap while battling for third. On the restart Kofoid once again drove away while Conley and Kemenah waged a war for second. Meanwhile 19th starter Trey Jacobs had moved his way up to fifth.
Kemenah finally won the battle for second on lap 21 but could not close on Kofoid who raced into lapped traffic with seven laps to go. Jacobs took third from Conley with two laps to go and passed Kemenah on the white flag lap but ran out of time to catch Kofoid.
“After having to run the B main, we started 19th and drove to 2nd! Would’ve loved to see a late caution. First night with Bonzai (Bruns) turning the wrenches and he had the 3J operating,” Jacobs noted later.
Shiels and Mike Bores paced the field for the 25 lap late model A-main with Shiels gaining the advantage over Bores, Jeff Geis, Larry Bellman, Jon Henry, Kent Brewer and Matt Irey. A caution on lap four and another three laps later kept the field close.
Once the laps started to click off Shiels pulled away while Bores had his hands full with Henry who took second on lap nine. Irey got around Bores with nine laps to go just before the caution flew.
This time on the restart Henry stayed right with Shiels. Shiels ran the bottom groove while Henry blasted away at the cushion. Henry got one more opportunity when the caution came out after the field had taken the white flag. But, on the ensuing restart a multi-car incident delayed the finish.
Once the track was cleared Shiels drove away for the victory over Henry, a charging Matt Miller, Irey and Ryan Markham.
Matt Foos and Brandon Moore brought the field to green for the 25 lap 305 sprint A-main with Foos taking the lead while Moore nearly got upside down and fell back several spots. Capodice took second from Chris Verda on lap two but could not close the game on Foos.
Foos held a commanding lead over Capodice, Jamie Miller, Verda, Mike Keegan, and Paul Weaver when the red flew for Logan Riehl whose mount caught fire though he walked away unharmed.
On the restart Foos pulled away again from Capodice while Miller and Weaver battled for third. Weaver would execute a 360 spin but lost several spots. With 10 laps to go Capodice began eating into Foos’ lead and drive into the top spot four laps later just as the caution flew. A couple of laps and another caution put Foos, Kyle Peters, Keegan, Schneider and Weaver right on Capodice’s rear bumper.
Capodice got an excellent restart and drove away for the win over a charging Weaver, Foos, Keegan and Peters.
Attica Raceway Park will be back in action with the AFCS 410 and 305 sprints and late models on Friday, July 31.

GETTING AFTER IT: Sheldon Haudenschild Gets Redemption At Lincoln Speedway
Consistency pays off for Haudenschild and Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing with first win of 2020
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA – July 23, 2020 – When Sheldon Haudenschild pulled his NOS Energy Drink #17 car into Victory Lane at Lincoln Speedway Thursday night, he got more than a trophy and shower of confetti. He got redemption.
The Wooster, OH driver missed transferring to the Feature at Lincoln in 2019. This year, he entered the Gettysburg Clash presented by Drydene on a streak of 16 top-10s in a row – nine of them being top-five finishes – and carried that momentum to his first World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win of 2020 and first at Lincoln Speedway.
“It definitely feels good, man,” Haudenschild said about the redeeming win. “We were good all night. It definitely feels good to get a win for my team. It’s kind of settled the pain to just be really consistent and gaining points. That’s been a positive. Definitely want to win. These (Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing) guys deserve to win. That’s what we want to do.”
His strong run started with a second-place finish in his Drydene Heat Race and then a win in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, which he won by 2.4 seconds.
However, Jacob Allen looked to put an end to Haudenschild’s hunt for the win by charging from third to the lead on the first lap of the 35-lap Feature.
Allen, of Hanover, PA – just minutes away from the speedway – looked poised to claim his first career win in the early stage of the race. He gapped Haudenschild by over a second in the opening laps before catching traffic on Lap 7.
Haudenschild closed in, but Allen was able to keep his Drydene #1A ahead of the NOS Energy Drink car, even while darting high and low to maneuver around the slower cars. Allen ran the top and Haudenschild couldn’t find the grip to pass him low. However, Allen switched to the bottom while racing through traffic, giving Haudenschild his preferred top lane.
On Lap 14, Haudenschild flipped the switch and rocketed around the outside of Allen through Turns 3 and 4 to officially take the lead on Lap 15. There was then nothing Allen could do. Haudenschild ripped around the high side of the track like a man desperately trying to lose the hoard of hungry drivers behind him. Although, in clean air, the closest car to him was at least three seconds behind.
Cautions eliminated his massive lead twice, but even on a green-white-checkered finish, Haudenschild was still able to gap the field by a second on the restart.
“You never know where these guys are at,” Haudenschild said. “You kind of have to race like they’re on you the whole time.”
Allen was the one left to fend off the hoard of drivers behind him. First came David Gravel, who was unable to make the pass. And then came his Shark Racing teammate Logan Schuchart. The two Drydene sponsored cars swapped slide jobs each corner for a lap and a half before Schuchart got the upper hand and took second.
While Allen had to settle for a third-place finish, after leading the first 14 laps, he was still energized about his performance.
“It was fun,” Allen said. “I feel really good. I know I haven’t won an Outlaw race, but this year I feel so good physically and mentally… Sheldon rips. Logan rips. I gave it all I had. The wins are going to come.”
The podium finish is his first since earning a third-place finish at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in April of 2019. It’s also his third top-five finish this year, besting his performance last year where he only got two top-fives.
Logan Schuchart's runner-up finish at Lincoln Speedway – also his home track – has helped him further cut into the championship points gap. He’s now 20 points behind points leader Donny Schatz and 14 points behind Brad Sweet, who is in second.
“I remember racing here locally, seven, eight years ago, and it’s been a struggle to get here. A long journey but we’re gaining on it,” Schuchart said about the Shark Racing team. “It’s nice to get a podium finish.”
After winning at Lernerville Speedway on Tuesday night, Schatz, the 10-time Series champion from Fargo, ND finished seventh at Lincoln and Sweet, the reigning champion, of Grass Valley, CA, finished eighth. Schatz now holds a six-point lead over Sweet.
Carson Macedo, who finished fifth, is still fourth in points – 62 points behind Schatz – and Haudenschild is fifth in points, only four points behind Macedo now.
With the consistency Haudenschild and his team have shown this year, he said he’s confident they’ll pick up more trophies and shower in more confetti.
“I keep telling these guys, ‘We’ll be consistent and win races,’” Haudenschild said. “It’s hard to tell your guys that and stay motivated with not winning a race until late July but we keep working… I have one of the best teams out there. No doubt.”

MONEY’S WORTH: Donny Schatz Steals Silver Cup Win In Thrilling Fashion
The Tony Stewart Racing driver reclaims the points lead with his third win of 2020
SARVER, PA – July 21, 2020 – Donny Schatz left Lernerville Speedway in September with frustration and a points gap he was unable to make up in time to deny Brad Sweet the 2019 title.
Ten months later, the 10-time Series champion left the Sarver, PA track Tuesday night with a trophy, a big check and the points lead over Sweet.
Redemption best describes the outcome, but astonishing, thrilling and spectacular defines his path to it.
Coming to the white flag, Schatz was running third behind Kyle Larson in second and Sweet in the lead. Five seconds later, he was the leader. A charge around the outside of Larson off Turn 4 and a slide job underneath Sweet going into Turn 1 propelled Schatz to his seventh Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup victory – his third win of 2020 – and the $25,000 top prize.
“It’s awesome to win the Silver Cup,” said Schatz, of Fargo, ND, in Victory Lane. “Third win of the year. Normally we’d like to have more, but we’re not going to get greedy. We’re going to keep racing the way we are and keep going.”
Schatz, Sweet and Larson positioned themselves for a good run early on by winning their Drydene Heat Races. However, Sweet put himself in the best position for the 40-lap Feature by winning the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash and claiming the pole.
Sweet led the first six laps before Schatz, from sixth, ran him down and took the lead in Turn 1. Like a rehearsed dance move, the two slid side by side in unison through Turns 3 &4 with Schatz up high and Sweet low. Schatz had the better momentum off the corner and charge ahead of Sweet to run away with the lead.
While Schatz held command out front for the next 20 laps, Sweet found grip around the bottom and closed on the Advance Auto Parts #15 with 10 laps to go. Once he was close enough to see Schatz wheeling his Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing ride, the two never left each other’s sight.
Sweet reclaimed the lead on Lap 28 and attempted to pull away from Schatz. He was unsuccessful as four laps later Schatz torpedoed his car underneath the NAPA Auto Parts #49 going into Turn 3. The two then drag raced side by side to the line with Schatz officially leading Lap 33. However, Sweet charged back ahead the next corner.
Their fierce racing brought Kyle Larson into the picture. Larson had been struggling on restarts, losing a spot or two each time. It wasn’t until he was able to run consecutive green flag laps that his Finley Farms #57 began to pick off cars and run down the leaders. He passed Schatz for second with four laps to go and began his hunt for Sweet.
The three titans of the Sprint Car world were a car length apart from each other with two laps to go, leaving no certainty of who would leave the victor. Schatz, the furthest back, was at his time limit to make a move for the win and wasted no seconds to perfect his final charge at victory.
He ripped the top of Turns 3 and 4 to power around the outside of Larson coming to the white flag and then carried that momentum into a slide job underneath Sweet going into Turn 1 to reclaim the lead for the final time.
“It’s fun to race like that,” Schatz said. “Those guys are good. That’s what you guys pay to see. My crew did a great job. I think what won us that race is figuring out how to run the racetrack early in the race. I got hanging there at the end and had to move around. I got to traffic, and I wasn’t good on the bottom. The 49 could get down there. The 57 could go there. But that’s what ultimately won us the race. Those guys were choking down around there and we could carry speed through (Turns) three and four.”
Larson had his own last lap charge, diving underneath Sweet for second in Turn 4 and closed to Schatz’s bumper at the finish line. His last four finishes with the Series now include three wins and a runner-up finish.
“It was an exciting race there,” said Larson, of Elk Grove, CA. “The track changed a ton. It was hard to keep up with it… It was a fun race. Fun to have the three of us battling for the win there coming down late. Just came up a little bit short.”
While Sweet had to settle for a third-place finish, it marked the end to his bad luck streak of three DNFs in a row.
“Probably should have protected,” said Sweet, of Grass Valley, CA. “I don’t know if I would have still held them off. I kind of felt like I was hanging on a little the last few laps there. Just couldn’t quite get the momentum built back up.”
Along with the top-three, Jason Sides had an impressive night. After starting 21st and having to visit the work area twice, he worked his way up to a seventh-place finished and earned the KSE Racing Hard Charger award for the night.
With his win at Lernerville, Schatz is now only three wins away from a milestone 300 career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series wins and has reclaimed the points lead for the first time since he won the season opening race at Volusia Speedway Park. He currently holds a four-point lead over Sweet in second and a 30-point lead over third-place Logan Schuchart, who finished ninth.
This time, he's leaving Lernerville with a smile.

THORSON THUNDERS TO TUESDAY NIGHT TRIUMPH AT RED DIRT

Meeker, Oklahoma (July 21, 2020).........Tanner Thorson faced a strikingly familiar scenario during Tuesday Night Thunder at Oklahoma's Red Dirt Raceway.
On Sunday at Caney Valley Speedway in Kansas, a caution with four laps remaining saw Tyler Courtney positioned directly behind Thorson for a late-race restart. The end result had Courtney sliding past Thorson for the lead and the eventual win, while a disgruntled Thorson fell to a 15th place finish after spinning to a stop as he tried to challenge Courtney for the lead.
On Tuesday night's Mid-America Midget Week finale, though the scene began in the same manner, Thorson made sure his ultimate fate was going to play out differently, this time in his favor.
This time, a late caution stifled Thorson's near five-second advantage with just three laps remaining. By rule, lapped cars were moved to the tail, and that put, yet again, Courtney, right on his rear bumper for the final restart.
As it turned out, Thorson had to endure three shots at a final restart due to a succession of yellows that halted his quest. On the third and final try, which went clean and green, Thorson wasn't to be denied on this night, ridding himself of the recent plague of unfavorable fortune to win by 0.598 of a second for the 17th victory of his USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget career, tying him with Jay Drake and J.J. Yeley for 38th all-time.
The reversal of fortunes was a welcome change for the 2016 series champion from Minden, Nev. who had finished outside the top-12 in two of his past three starts. Yet, despite a mid-stream change in approach during the night, it was back to normal for Thorson, who earned his fourth feature victory of the year, equaling him with Kyle Larson for most in the series.
"Racing is a headgame in itself. It's about whoever can stay out of their own heads the most in the car and in the pits. We all know in this sport, you can't win every night," Thorson reiterated. "We've definitely had one of the fastest, if not the fastest car every night (this week). The last few nights, I've just been second guessing myself as far as setup. I second guessed myself to start tonight. I changed a little bit of the spring package I was running; it wasn't working. Then, I got off the coils and went to bars in the rear and I realized why I switched to coils and why I'm going to stay on coils."
Thorson began his 30-lap race from the pole and led the opening two circuits just before 16th running Kaylee Bryson flipped hard over the banking in between turns one and two. She was shaken up a bit but ultimately exited the car under her own power.
On the ensuing restart, Windom took a run at Thorson for the race lead with a slider in turn three. Thorson ducked back underneath off turn four to snag the lead. However, the driver who was most "on the charge" in the early stages was Cannon McIntosh who used the bottom groove to race past both Windom and Thorson to lead at the stripe on the fourth lap.
Thorson regained the lead from McIntosh a lap later and continuously stretched his lead out over the competition throughout the remainder of the contest. Meanwhile, a tussle behind him waged as Windom and McIntosh exchanged sliders, allowing fourth-place Courtney to gain ground on both, rolling the bottom to make it three-wide at the line on lap 10.
Through the middle stages, leading series Rookie Buddy Kofoid made a surge toward the front all while the numerals on the left side of his car's tail tank were flapping in the breeze, passing Courtney for third on the 18th lap, then by Windom with an inside move on the following lap for second.
With 11 laps left to go, Windom, Courtney and Kofoid ran bottom to top, three-wide for the runner-up position. Windom slid past Kofoid entering turn three; Kofoid biked the left rear on the cushion simultaneously and the two locked together briefly above the turn four cushion with Kofoid's front bumper interlocked with Windom's left nerf bar.
Courtney promptly sped underneath both to grab second while fifth-running McIntosh plowed into the left front of Windom's car, knocking Windom's car straight and sending McIntosh's ride airborne before landing on all fours and continuing onward with a slightly askew right front wheel while dropping to seventh at the checkered.
Now the race was a simple cat and mouse chase between Thorson and Courtney. However, Thorson was serving as the ultimate hide-and-seek champion for the time being with him being out of sight and more than a straightaway ahead of Courtney as he navigated traffic in the closing stages.
Only a caution could disrupt Thorson's yellow brick road path to a stress-free, dominant triumph. And that radiant yellow piece of cloth became visible just three laps from the end when sixth running Tanner Carrick stopped on the back straightaway, forcing his car to be towed back to the pits.
"When that yellow came out, I was like 'oh great, here we go again,'" Thorson admitted. "Sunday night, I had a good little lead. We had a bunch of yellows there at the end of that race that cost me. I got in too hard and looped it. I just talked to myself a little bit trying to amp myself up and try not to lose what I had going because I knew I had such a fast racecar."
The first attempt at a restart saw Courtney briefly slide ahead of Thorson between turns one and two before Thorson shot down off the high side of the turn two banking to re-snag the lead. Moments later, Trey Gropp, running 15th at the time, slowed on the front straight to necessitate a yellow. The following restart too was thwarted after a single lap when 11th running Sam Johnson jumped the curb and landed outside turns one and two on the adjacent go-kart track.

Thorson anticipated Courtney was going to throw the kitchen sink, the kit and kaboodle, and everything else at him on each restart, so he altered his starts to throw a figurative banana peel into the equation.
"I knew Courtney was going to the bottom or slide me or do something," Thorson predicted. "I tried to screw my starts up a little bit and kind of get the guys off their feet a little bit to get the advantage that I had before, and it worked. Then I saw Tyler (Courtney) there at the bottom on the first restart. The second restart, he went back again, and I knew from running up there early in the race that momentum was going to be the key there at the exit of turn two. I just kept it up there and thought about sliding myself a bunch, but I knew I'd lose ground. I just kept doing what I was doing, and it paid off."
Paid off it did as Thorson distanced himself from Courtney in the final two-lap shootout, launching himself around on the top shelf of two to race on to the victory in his Hayward Motorsports/Oilfire - Factory Kahne - Walker Filtration/Spike/Stanton SR-11x over Courtney and a hard-charging Jerry Coons Jr. who rolled the bottom to third. Kofoid took fourth while series point leader Chris Windom rounded out the top-five utilizing a backup car following mechanical troubles with his primary during hot laps.
In Fatheadz Qualifying, Jenks, Oklahoma's Kyle Wilson, making his USAC debut, biked in turn three and flipped over the turn four wall. He continued flipping end-over-end after exiting the racetrack before landing in a pile of brush. He was uninjured.
