LARSON WINS AT THE BURG, TIES BC AS WINNINGEST IMW DRIVER

Lawrenceburg, Indiana (June 20, 2020).........A one-race "losing" streak was more than enough for Kyle Larson to endure as he got back on the winning track and returned to victory lane Saturday night in the penultimate round of Indiana Midget Week at Lawrenceburg Speedway.
The Elk Grove, Calif. native had won eight features in a row across USAC, World of Outlaws and All Star competition over the past couple of weeks prior to finishing as the runner-up on Friday night at Lincoln Park Speedway's Indiana Midget Week event.
Larson's impressive victory at "The Burg" came on a late-race restart with four laps remaining as he slid by leader Thomas Meseraull for the pinnacle position to earn his fourth Indiana Midget Week score in the last five nights and his ninth career victory at IMW, tying him atop the all-time list for most IMW wins with Bryan Clauson.
The triumph was also Larson's 23rd in the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget division, moving him into the top-20 all-time alongside Christopher Bell, Tom Bigelow, Pancho Carter, Tommy Copp, Kevin Olson and Billy Vukovich.
Though Larson's personal win streak was interrupted just once this week, the roll continued for Tucker-Boat Motorsports who now stands an unblemished five-for-five in the IMW series this year, and is just one win away from becoming the second team ever to sweep the entire slate of Indiana Midget Week races in a single year (Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports in 2016).
"That was a fun race," Larson exclaimed. "You had to work for that one and, once again, (we had) a good enough car to keep us in contention. Chad Boat and everybody there, they prepare such nice cars, probably the nicest midgets in the pits."
Larson's workload began from the third position for the 30-lap feature, his best starting position thus far in this 2020 Indiana Midget Week. Meanwhile, pole sitter Tyler Courtney encountered a bit of trouble on the first turn of the opening lap as he bounced up the racetrack, losing three positions and dropping to fourth as series Rookie Buddy Kofoid took advantage to shoot out to the front from the outside of the front row and built an early 1.5 second lead.
The action came to a halt on the sixth lap as last year's series Rookie of the Year Andrew Layser barrel-rolled on the high side between turns three and four. The night's first heat race winner escaped unscathed.
On the ensuing restart, second running Thomas Meseraull was on the loudpedal as he sprinted to the inside of Kofoid for the race lead entering the first turn. A half lap later, Larson used the high line to drive around Kofoid for second and was an instant challenger to Meseraull up front, taking a few swings for the race lead, albeit unsuccessfully, as Meseraull rode the wave of momentum up top.
The trio went three-wide on a lap 11 restart following the stoppage of 2017 Indiana Midget Week champion Shane Golobic in turn two. Larson was able to get wheel-to-wheel to the inside of Meseraull in turns one and two directly following the restart while Kofoid reemerged as a contender, doing likewise on the bottom to the inside of Larson as he made a bid to get to the front.
Meseraull held serve at the head of the pack with both Larson and Kofoid falling into line over the next 11 laps until a yellow flag flew for Jason McDougal, who lost a right rear tire before coming to a stop at the top of turn one. McDougal was making his debut in the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports team's No. 97 driven earlier in the week by Zeb Wise and had worked his way up to fifth by the time of the caution. He'd restart from the tail and finish ninth with new rubber.
On the lap 22 restart, Larson made his move, sliding underneath Meseraull entering turn one. Meseraull answered the bell and drove downhill off the turn two banking to the inside of Larson to retake the position. The following lap, second-running Larson and quickly approaching, third-running Kofoid served up a double slider on Meseraull with both scooting past in turn one, yet Meseraull took on both of them simultaneously, and outpaced them into turn three as he drag raced and bested both as the first to reach turn three just before 16th place running Justin Grant stopped at the top of turn four to bring out the yellow.
Kofoid, now scored in second on the restart with nine to go, took a couple shots at Meseraull to no avail and was soon challenged by Larson for the second position with Larson ultimately prevailing using a turn one slider with six laps remaining. Larson immediately clamped down on Meseraull for the lead but was unable to get by each time he stuck a nose to the inside of Meseraull at each end of the 3/8-mile. Meseraull utilized the topside "mo" to pull away to a six car length lead.
Suddenly, with four to go, contact at the back half of the top-ten sent ninth-running Clinton Boyles into a 360-spin exiting the second turn. By rule, the yellow flag is automatically displayed following a 360-degree spin, resetting the deck for the final four-lap stanza.
Larson, in his Tucker-Boat Motorsports/Pristine Auction - K & C Drywall/Spike/Speedway, knew that time was running out and was fully aware that his time was now or never and he had to throw the kitchen sink at Meseraull on the final restart if he was going to win this deal.
"I couldn't really run the top like I wanted to because I'd bounce a lot, then I'd get in the cushion and I'd be bogging," Larson explained. "I knew I had to try and make something else work. I slid T-Mez there one time and I felt there was a lot of grip at the entry of one. Once I got clear of Buddy there after he got by me on the one restart, I was able to just run that line to protect any sliders that might get thrown at me. At the same time, I could make up a little ground on him and I knew that, on that next caution I got, I had to do everything I could because we only had like four laps to go."

With that opportunity, Larson capitalized on the chance, sticking the turn one slide job past Meseraull for the lead. Meseraull remained in Larson's shadow and the duo went toe-to-toe into turn three, but "T-Mez" was unable to slide past, falling into line behind Larson at the exit of turn four where he was then subsequently challenged and, ultimately, overtaken for second by Kofoid in turn one with two laps remaining.
Up front, however, Larson had checked out, finishing off his fourth victory of the week by 1.704 sec. over Kofoid, Meseraull, and series point leader Chris Windom with Courtney rounding out the top-five.
It was another sterling performance from Kofoid, the series Rookie out of Penngrove, Calif., who equaled his best career finish of second in his Keith Kunz-Curb-Agajanian/Mobil 1 - JBL Audio - TRD/Bullet By Spike/Speedway Toyota.
"I couldn't really get my car to take off that good," Kofoid admitted. "As the race went on, it actually got better. I was hoping that yellow where we were going three-wide was going to stick, but then Kyle got back by me. I knew that cushion was getting a little treacherous getting into one and really to the center. Sliding yourself, you can make speed and kind of catch it off, and I started doing that at the end. I was really good at the top of three and four and could carry a lot of speed through the center."
It was a heartbreaker for San Jose, California's Meseraull who led a race-high 21 laps as the popular veteran driver sought his first career USAC National Midget points-paying victory, but wound up finishing third in his Response Management Services/EnviroFab - Guess Performance Parts/Spike/Speedway Toyota.
"At the end there, on the starts, I was just struggling on the starts," Meseraull lamented. "If I could get the momentum rolling, the thing was just bad to the bone. Hats off to these guys. They've really stuck behind me. I've torn up a bunch of stuff this week. We've had a tough time, but we've got the speed. We were quick time tonight, battling it out with two of the best guys out here. It's a little disheartening sitting here after leading a bunch of the laps. My guys needed that. We needed that win. But you know what, we'll go to Kokomo tomorrow, hang it to the floor and try to rip the lip."

Kyle Larson Racing wins during World of Outlaws' return to live national TV on CBS Sports Network
HAUBSTADT, IN – June 20, 2020 – Carson Macedo was prepared to leave Tri-State Speedway Saturday night with either a trophy or a wrecked car.
“I wanted to win really bad,” Macedo said.
Not only where he and his Kyle Larson Racing team eager for a return to Victory Lane, Saturday night’s World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event awarded $10,000-to-win and was broadcasted live on CBS Sports Network – the first time since 2012 that the World of Outlaws have been live on national television.
He and reigning champion Brad Sweet thrilled fans watching around the world and at the Indiana track by putting on a duel that ended with Macedo edging Sweet by 0.064 seconds at the finish line.
“When he (Sweet) passed me on the restart, I basically said, ‘I was going to commit and either crash it or try to win,’” Macedo said while trying to catch his breath in Victory Lane. “I felt really good. When your race car is really good, it’s easy to make those kinds of decisions.”
The victory is his sixth career Series win and first of 2020. He had been building to it with three top-five finishes in the last three races, but Sweet and Jacob Allen made him work for it.
The trio turned the 40-lap Feature into an exhibition of slide jobs and close quarter racing.
Macedo, of Lemoore, CA, started on the pole due to his DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash win. Allen lined up alongside him and Sweet started fourth.
When the green flag dropped, Macedo darted ahead of Allen in the opening laps, but soon became prey to Allen’s Shark Racing #1A when he hit traffic on Lap 12. Sweet moved into third on the second lap.
Like Macedo, Allen, of Hanover, PA, was just as hungry for the win as he continues to seek his first World of Outlaws win.
The two young guns battled side by side for several laps. While Macedo ran high, Allen continuously dove underneath him into the turns but Macedo always had the better run off the turns to launch ahead of the Drydene car down the straightaways.
While they dueled, Sweet closed in. He got by Allen for second on Lap 25 and then ran down Macedo and took the lead four laps later.
However, before he could try to set his own pace out front, a caution came out that saw the end of Allen’s career best performance at the quarter-mile track.
Justin Peck spun in Turn 2, directly in Allen’s line. With nowhere to go, Allen slid into Peck and punctured his right rear tire.
Allen ended the night 13th, but the disappointing finish didn’t puncture his spirit.
“This is a track me and Logan… I’ll saw just me, have really struggled at,” Allen said after the race. “I don’t think I’ve ever made it out of the [Last Chance Showdown] or anything like that. Obviously, this is a big improvement. Just an unfortunate circumstance to get in an accident there, but I’m not mad. I was pretty happy with the race me and Macedo had going on for the lead. I thought that was a lot of fun. I hope the fans enjoyed that.”
With 11 laps to go, the field lined up two by two – a benefit for Macedo, who would restart on the outside of Sweet.
When the race resumed, Macedo continued to master the high side of the track and surprised Sweet by driving around the outside of his NAPA Auto Parts #49 and reclaimed the lead.
Macedo held command out front for the remaining laps, but Sweet found grip around the bottom in the closing laps and reeled the black #2 car in. When they drove off Turn 4 for the final time, Sweet snuck underneath Macedo and the two drivers drag raced to the finish line with Sweet inching further alongside Macedo the closer they got to the finish line.
With camera flashes lighting up the front stretch, pictures showed Macedo edging Sweet by the 0.064 sec. margin.
“He (Sweet) definitely made me earn it there,” Macedo said. “My car was incredible. I knew I was really good. I feel like at the beginning of the race I could set a really good pace. Just had a lot of balance. I think lap dirtied up my racetrack more where I was running. I was debating if I should move around or not.
“I think I got to traffic the first time by Lap 10 or 12. I started moving around. I thought maybe if I diamond off the corner it would be better, but I think I was losing ground. I started doing that at the end and Brad was able to get back to me. He’s a World of Outlaws champion for a reason and he made me earn it.”
Sweet’s runner-up finish is his third top-five in a row and helped him further extended his points lead over 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz – who finished 16th. He now leads Schatz by 66 points.
“It was nice to contend for the win,” Sweet said. “A little disappointed in myself. On that restart I knew I was going to be in a vulnerable place. I didn’t want to choose the top. I wanted to run the bottom and control my own destiny. I felt like I spun my tires a little… I think Carson, I think he really wanted that one bad and probably just laid her in there and he kind of surprised me that he made it around the outside.”
Ian Madsen, Daryn Pittman and Logan Schuchart rebounded from their Friday night performances with a top-five finish Saturday night. They finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
At the end of the night, Macedo was able to roll his car in the trailer in one piece and walk away with the trophy.

FREMONT, Ohio – Cole Duncan exhibited maturity beyond his 28 hears Saturday at Fremont Speedway as he was patient on a slick surface and with lapped traffic to claim the 410 sprint feature win on Custom Metal Works of Norwalk Night to open the 2020 racing season.
Duncan, who hails from Circleville, Ohio, took the lead on lap 2 and only had to survive one caution flag and heavy lapped traffic toward the end to score his fourth career Fremont win.
“This is old school Jim Ford Fremont (former track promoter). A lot of these guys have never watched when it was Jim Ford Fremont like this. I might not have a lot of experience on this track like this but I’ve watched a lot of races,” said Duncan in the Engine Pro Victory Lane.
“We were pretty good all night with the exception of the heat race…we weren’t great. We went to work on it…threw a couple of things at it…we wanted to experiment a little bit. It paid off. It’s hard when you get out front like that. You don’t know if you drug someone behind you that’s finding a different line than you did. I was excited to get to lapped traffic and start moving around to see if I could find something. Then I got stuck behind lapped traffic and I started to get a little worried. Worst thing you can do is blow it off the end of the track or run into a lapped car and screw up your race. It’s a fine line between being aggressive and trying to get by lapped cars and being patient and making sure you hit whatever moisture you can to propel the car forward,” continued Duncan beside his Ohio Heating, Helms Construction, Motorcity Auto Transport, Gressman Powersports, FK Indy, Wolf Composites backed #22.
“I’m glad we’re getting back to normal. I’m glad we had these great fans out here tonight…that’s awesome. Hopefully we’re back to normal now and we can start going to some cool track and rattling off some more wins,” added Duncan.
Paul Weaver made it a clean sweep of the weekend in 305 sprint action, earning his 52nd career victory at “The Track That Action Built” putting him eighth on the track’s all-time win list. His victory Saturday came after he won at Attica Raceway Park the previous night.
“Pam and Steve Brown come on board last year to help me and I wouldn’t be here if it was for Dave Rice and Bob Hampshire at Hampshire Racing Engines,” said Weaver beside his B&B Drain Services, Hampshire Racing Engines, M&L Excavating, Seagate Sandblasting, Weaver Performance backed #1W.
Fostoria, Ohio’s Shawn Valenti picked right back up where he left off last year in the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks, inheriting the lead when early leader Jim Holcomb had mechanical woes and driving to his 56th career win at Fremont Speedway. He now sits sixth on the track’s all-time feature win list.
“Jim Holcomb had a fast hot rod…not sure what happened to him but tough to see him break. Just another awesome deal to be back in this truck. I have to thank Jeff Babcock for still doing it and Adam from A Plus Auto Center and Chris and John Brooks…they all help out,” said Valenti beside his Craig Miller Trucking, Best Performance Motorsports, Dave Story Equipment, KS Sales & Service, Speedways Bar and Grill backed machine.
In the 30 lap Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint A-main, Frankie Nervo and Trey Jacobs led the field to green with Nervo gaining the advantage over third starter Duncan, Byron Reed, Jacobs, Cale Conley and DJ Foos. Duncan put the wing back and drove into the lead on the next circuit and pulled steadily away.
Reed grabbed second on lap three but by just lap six was nearly four seconds behind Duncan. The only caution flew on lap seven, putting Reed right on Duncan’s rear bumper. It had little impact as Duncan once again drove away from Reed who now had his hands full with Foos. Foos took the runner-up spot on lap 11 and began to eat into Duncan’s lead while Reed, Jacobs and Zeb Wise put on an entertaining battle for third.
Heavy lapped traffic came into play with 12 laps remaining but Foos could not capitalize as Duncan maintained a two to three second lead. Reed and Jacobs continued to battle for third with Jacobs taking the position with nine laps to go.
With only a handful of laps remaining Duncan was struggling with a pair of lapped cars who were racing side by side. But, Foos could not capitalize as Duncan’s patience paid off as he took the checkers over Foos, Jacobs, Reed and Wise.
Seth Schneider and Weaver comprised the front row of the 25 lap Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint A-main. Before a lap could be completed three cars at the tail of the field tangled and on the ensuing restart three more had problems. When the green flew, Schneider gained the advantage over Weaver, Kyle Capodice, Matt Foos, Jamie Miller and Alvin Roepke.
Schneider maintained about a four car length advantage with Weaver staying within striking distance while Capodice ran comfortably in third with Miller, Foos and Roepke putting on an entertaining battle for fourth. Weaver raced to Schneider’s outside by lap 10 but a Mike Moore tumble halted the action.
When the green reappeared Schneider was able to hold off Weaver with Capodice, Roepke and Miller giving chase. Weaver’s constant pressure paid off on lap 15 as he drove into the lead.
Weaver pulled away for the victory with Schneider, Capodice, Roepke and Miller rounding out the top five.
Cautions marred the first hand full of laps for the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Truck A-main but Jim Holcomb led at every restart. A great battle for second ensured involving Ben Class, Valenti and Cory McCaughey. Disaster struck for Holcomb on lap 13 as mechanical issues forced him to stop, handing the lead to Valenti.
The battle for second involving Ben Class, Dustin Keegan, Brad Mitten and Dana Fry was fun to watch before a caution flew for Keegan with just two laps to go. Valenti drove away on the restart to take the win over Clapp, Frey, Mitten and Brooks.
Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, June 27 on Willies Sales and Service Night featuring the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series (AFCS) 410 Sprints presented by the Baumann Auto Group, the NAPA of Bryan AFCS 305 sprints presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales, the NRA Sprint Invader 360 Sprints and the dirt trucks in action.

TIM BUCKWALTER EARNS BIG MONEY VP FUELS BRUCE ROGERS MEMORIAL MONEY MAKER VICTORY AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY, BRIAN HIRTHLER TOPS THE FIELD IN SPORTSMAN MAIN EVENT
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. JUNE 21, 2020 – Out of action due to the COVID19 virus, racing finally returned to the Grandview Speedway 1/3-mile banked clay oval on Saturday night presenting the third annual VP Racing Fuels Bruce Rogers Memorial Money Maker 50-lap Big Block/Small Block Modified feature.
Rogers, the man who helped build the track, along with his father Forrest, was one of the most respected auto racing promoters in the business. During the 55 years of running the facility he was able to bring it to national notoriety. One of the most successful short track racing operations has continued under the operation of members of the Rogers family since he passed away.
Over 54 Modifieds and 35 Sportsman cars lined the pit area to partake in the action to start the 58th consecutive season set with six Modified heats and four Sportsman heats along with consies to see who would make the show.
When the jam packed night of stock car racing action was over Tim Buckwalter had won the Third Annual VP Race Fuels Bruce Rogers Memorial Money Maker 50-lapper that featured big and small block racers battling for the $7,500 top prize. And Brian Hirthler took home the win money in the 25-lap T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman main event. Each driver that qualified for the 50-lapper earned at least $1,000.
Modified qualifying heats winners were Brian Hirthler, Rick Laubach, Brett Kressley, Billy Pauch Jr., Tim Buckwalter and Kyle Weiss. Consi winners were Dom Buffalino, Jeff Strunk and Mike Lisowski.
Cole Stangle, Brandon Edgar, Ryan Beltz and Brad Brightbill were the heat winners in the Sportsman with Ryan Higgs and Dakota Kohler winning the consies.
Every driver that made the main event through the heats redrew for starting positions.
Through the luck of the draw in the 50-lap event, Billy Pauch Jr. pulled the number one starting grid for the Bruce Rogers Memorial and kept the Rod Breitenstein/BMS Racing No. 14 in the lead until Tim Buckwalter dove underneath him coming off the fourth turn to put the Norm Saxton-owned No. 23X at the front of the pack.
Buckwalter, who has won in just about every type of race car he has ever wheeled, had a full straightaway lead built up at one point and in the later stages, Craig Von Dohren was closing in, but he didn’t have enough laps to actually catch him. At the drop of the checkered Buckwalter picked up the prestigious victory.
Von Dohren received an extra cash award from We The Fans for being the hard charger coming from 22nd to second after he made the race via the consi.
In the 25-lap Sportsman feature it appeared that Brandon Edgar was possibly on his way to his second career victory at the track. Former point champion Brian Hirthler had other ideas and with two laps to go he managed to take the lead away and go on to claim the win which was his sixth career triumph. The last two openers were won by his brother Kevin, but this year Brian decided it was his turn.
The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award recipients were Buckwalter and Edgar. Doug Manmiller received the Cargo Trailers certificate. Four non-qualifying drivers received $250 from American Racers Tires in a drawing and they included Mark Kratz, Brad Grim, T.J. Lilly and Nate Brinker.
Before the green could be thrown in the Modified feature, a tangle occurred in the third turn during the four-abreast parade lap. Through it, Buckwalter got a flat tire, but he was allowed to go to the pits and change it and not lose a position.
Pauch Jr. maintained the lead when action resumed trailed by Kyle Weiss, Ryan Krachun, Dylan Swinehart and Buckwalter.
The running order remained the same for several laps with Buckwalter and Krachun swapping third and fourth coming upon lapped traffic.
Meme DeSantis brought out the yellow on the 14th lap when he slowed along the homestretch. Before the restart Weiss, who was running a solid second constantly gaining ground on Pauch Jr. had to pit with a left flat tire relinquishing second for Buckwalter. Pauch Jr. held his ground on this restart, but one lap later Buckwalter was the new leader.
While Buckwalter showed the way action behind him was hot and heavy between Pauch Jr., Jared Umbenhauer, Krachun and D. Swinehart.
By the 25th lap Buckwalter had a full straightaway lead built up in his mount powered by a Morrison Race Engine, but by now he was being chased by Umbenhauer, Von Dohren, Pauch and Ryan Watt, who loaned Buckwalter parts earlier in the evening.
Von Dohren finally cleared Umbenhauer after battling for second for many laps and set sail after the rapid running Buckwalter.
Despite the fact Von Dohren closed the distance, he ran out of laps to try to get the lead away from Buckwalter as Buckwalter pulled into the winner’s circle trailed by Von Dohren, Watt, Umbenhauer and Jeff Strunk, another driver that had to run the consi to make the show.
Interesting to note that multi-time track champions Von Dohren and Strunk had to qualify through the consolation events.
Sportsman action saw pole sitter Jesse Landis set the pace for six laps before Edgar moved into first on the seventh circuit.
Nathan Mohr found himself facing the wrong direction in the first turn bringing out the yellow eighth lap. Before action resumed Jim Housworth, while running a solid fifth, had to pit since the belly pan was dragging. On the restart Landis managed to regain control, but was short lived as tree laps later Edgar took back the lead coming out of the fourth turn.
Behind Edgar dicing for positions were Landis, Brian Hirthler, Kyle Lilick and Brad Arnold.
Once Hirthler overtook second he began to pressure Edgar.
With two laps remaining the fifth lead change occurred as Hirthler was now the new leader.
Hirthler never surrendered the lead and was back in victory lane again trailed by Edgar, Lilick, Arnold and Landis.
Next Saturday, June 27, a full show of T.P. Trailers Modified and T.P. Trailers Truck Equipment Sportsman which will begin the point season will be presented with the Blast From The Past Vintage Cars will be part of the tripleheader show set to get underway at 7:30 p.m.

FIRST TIMER: Carson Short stands tall at Haubstadt for first win
Illinois driver holds off World of Outlaws stars for first Series win in 11 starts
HAUBSTADT, IN – June 19, 2020 – Carson Short held up the checkered flag as high as he could. Confetti rained around him. The crowd of 5,000 people sounded like 20,000 with their empathic cheers echoing around the speedway.
If you asked Short, he just won the Knoxville Nationals. Or at least that’s what it felt like to the Marion, IL driver.
After fending off slide job attacks by Sheldon Haudenschild, Short went on to win his first career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win Friday night at Tri-State Speedway.
“It feels great,” Short said getting his first Series win. “Especially here. It’s where I won my first USAC race, too. It’s a great track. Everyone says it’s a different track. It’s technical. I felt like tonight was up top, running the cushion. It just feels great.”
Short led all 30 laps to claim the win in his 11th World of Outlaws start, driving for his grandfather, Richard Short’s small underfunded team. He also became the first first-time winner in more than a year for the Series.
Before the night, Short had two top-10 finishes with the Series – the first coming at Tri-State Speedway. While he only has a handful of starts in a winged Sprint Car, he has several laps around the quarter-mile track. With it being about an hour and a half from his Illinois home, Tri-State became a home track for Short. And the fans treated him as a hometown driver all night long.
“You don’t get any better than the fans here at Haubstadt,” Short said. “They’re just down home ready to watch some Sprint Car racing. They love it. It’s just the atmosphere. Winning at Haubstadt, I feel like it’s the small track of the Knoxville Nationals, if you will, with the fans. Those guys are crazy.”
Short earned the pole position for the 30-lap Feature with his win in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. He took the lead from Haudenschild on the first lap and never looked back.
The same happened at the start of the Feature. However, Haudenschild didn’t let Short get away.
On Lap 7, Short got sideways off Turn 2, allowing Haudenschild to plan an attack to pass for the next turn. Before he could, Jeff Swindell flipped in Turn 2, bringing out the red flag.
When the race resumed, Short maintained about a two-car length distance on the NOS Energy Drink #17 car. Even when he had to wrangle his way through lap traffic, Short looked like a veteran slicing through traffic with ease.
With five laps to go, Haudenschild threw a Hail Mary slide job underneath Short’s #21 car going into Turn 3. He took the lead, but Short was able to cross underneath him and bolt back ahead of him down the straightaway. From then on, Haudenschild couldn’t get close enough again to attempt another slider. He had to settle for the runner-up finish.
“Hats off to Carson, he did a phenomenal job,” said Haudenschild, of Wooster, OH. “I was waiting on him to make a mistake and he didn’t do it. Then, I was waiting on traffic and he got through there really well. Congrats to him. I love seeing first time winners. Congrats to him. I’m happy with a second.
“We’ve been really good here. Just keep this momentum rolling. I keep telling my guys, if we keep being in this top-five we’re going to win races. We’re just working for that.”
His second-place finish was his second in a row at the track and his sixth top-five finish in the last seven races, which helped move him up to fourth in the championship standings – 124 points behind leader Brad Sweet.
David Gravel, of Watertown, CT, rounded out the podium. His third-place finish is a welcomed rebound from his 19th-place finish at Knoxville Raceway last weekend.
Behind him in fourth was Carson Macedo, of Lemoore, CA – his third fourth-place finish in a row.
Fellow Californian and reigning champion Brad Sweet, of Grass Valley, CA, finished fifth, extending his points lead over 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz – who finished 11th for the second race in a row – to 38 points.
Sweet swept the weekend at Beaver Dam Raceway and then the next weekend at Knoxville Raceway was swept by Kyle Larson.

Will Short be next in line to sweep the World of Outlaws’ first doubleheader weekend at Tri-State Speedway during the live broadcast on CBS Sports Network Saturday night?
“God, I hope so,” Short said with a chuckle and smile on his face. “Yeah, the car is on rails. I don’t think the track is going to change any. It (the #21 car) would go anywhere I wanted it to go. Even when (Haudenschild) showed me the nose with his slide job, I could cross underneath. It just had speed everywhere. Yeah, I feel like we can back it up tomorrow night and get another win.”

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series returns to Tri-State Speedway Sat., June 20 for the second night of the historic weekend. The Feature will be live on CBS Sports Network – the first time the World of Outlaws has been live on national television since 2012 – at 9 p.m. (ET). The entire event will be broadcasted live on DIRTVision, as well.
