BACON BOLTS TO VALENTINE'S VICTORY AT OCALA

Ocala, Florida (February 14, 2020).........Entering Friday night's USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship season opener, the most recent time Brady Bacon left Bubba Raceway Park with a top-five finish was three years ago.
Furthermore, the Broken Arrow, Okla. native's most recent victory at the 3/8-mile tri-oval came five years prior, leaving him more than eager to quash the early season dry spell that lingered over him entering the 2020 season.
On a weekend that's been anything but a dry spell with heavy rain washing out Thursday's intended opener and threatening Friday's second go with persistent afternoon showers, Bacon rid himself of the early-season cloud of recent years by taking the lead with just four laps remaining to score his third career Winter Dirt Games feature victory.
The win for Bacon in his Dynamics, Inc./Longworth Equipment - Fatheadz Eyewear - DriveWFX.com/Triple X/Rider Chevy notched another milestone for the two-time series champion. With the triumph, Bacon became just the 13th driver to reach the 30-win mark in his USAC National Sprint Car career.
"This win is pretty important to me because we've struggled here the past three years," Bacon admitted. "Getting off to a bad start is not easy. Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going and not start off at a handicap for the rest of the season."
Bacon had quite a long row to hoe in just 30 laps, starting 9th on the grid on a tricky surface before steadily moving his way through the 22-car field. Meanwhile, at the front of the pack, Kevin Thomas Jr. lunged to the point on the opening lap from his pole position while outside front row starter Kyle Cummins dug in and charged around Thomas to snare the lead off turn four on the opening circuit.
Cummins quickly gapped Thomas by just a tick under a full second during the early stages before encountering lapped traffic on the tenth lap. Cummins met a five-member single-file train of cars at the tail end of the lead lap where he decisively ripped around the outside of traffic as Thomas gave chase, closing up the canyon between the two ever so slightly.
Just one lap later, young Connor Leoffler, making his first career series start and who had just been put a lap down by Cummins, biked hard in turn one before landing on all fours and smacking the right rear against the outer concrete, ending his night.
On the lap 12 resumption, Thomas peeked his nose underneath the ride of Cummins at the exit of turn four, but Cummins slashed away once again and regenerated his advantage at the front, clicking off the fastest lap of the race one lap after the halfway mark.
Just prior to the last 10-lap stanza, Cummins was greeted by a chorus of traffic, allowing Thomas to subtract the interval between he and the lead car of Cummins. On the 20th lap, while exiting turn four, Cummins experienced "a moment" if you will when he and the car of Katlynn Leer collided near the flagstand, sending both into immediate disarray and near disaster. Although, both carried on without issue.
Thomas pounced on the Cummins/Leer mishap and raced to the lead past Cummins a half lap later on the bottom between turns three and four. However, two laps later, Thomas' bid for victory fell into shambles as his right rear tire went flat on the back straightaway on the 24th lap, granting Cummins the lead as Thomas slowed to a crawl to the work area where his crew swapped out for new rubber, ultimately returning for a 16th place finish.
The ensuing restart with seven laps remaining put Bacon on Cummins' tail where he immediately let it be known he was going to be a contender. At the conclusion of lap 24 at the exit of turn four, Bacon clawed off turn four under Cummins, racing to a near dead heat at the line with Cummins clinging to a slight advantage as he disallowed Bacon from taking hold of the low line entering turn one.
Bacon continued hounding Cummins on both ends of the racetrack, and on lap 27, Bacon was finally able to squeeze through the crack in the door underneath Cummins entering turn one, to pocket the lead once and for all.
"I knew he had been running the bottom in three and four and it was super, super tricky," Bacon recalled. "So, I figured if I could pressure him, he'd slide up enough to where I could slip underneath in three and four. I didn't know if I was going to get him, but I just got enough of a run to slide up and we had a really good car in the middle of one and two. I could turn back down and go the other way without him crossing me over. I felt pretty confident, that if nothing major happened, I could hold on."
Something major nearly did occur, however, as Bacon's tire began to deflate in the waning laps, leaking more air as each lap dissipated. But, 30 laps were just enough to race on without a hindrance. To just get to that point, though, it took a box full of patience to make the winning move, but not too much patience as to allow others to find the path to victory first before he did himself.
"I felt like the bottom was going to be good in three and four early, but it took me awhile to figure out how to hit it right without sliding up on entry," Bacon explained. "Even then, you had to figure out where you were going to put yourself going into the next corner to get a good run. Fortunately, we got by some people just in time before they figured it out too."
Princeton, Indiana's Kyle Cummins led a race-high 24 laps and came oh-so-close to finally scoring his initial Winter Dirt Games victory in his 21st start in the event, finishing 2nd in his Rock Steady Racing/Mid-America Safety Solutions - Greenwell Auto Body - Lucas Oil Center/Mach-1/Foxco Chevy.
"I felt like I had some pressure," Cummins said of Bacon's pursuit of him. "He was pounding the top, so I switched to the bottom. I thought I had him cleared there, but Brady did a good job there. We were really good at the beginning and I really didn't know where to go there in three and four. I went ahead and went to the top. I saw Brady and I tried to save the bottom. He just had a better car there at the end of the race."
Reigning series champion C.J. Leary of Greenfield, Ind. finished 3rd in his debut aboard the Gene Gile Racing/RVB Transport - Valvoline - FK Rod Ends/DRC/1-Way Chevy, while two-time Winter Dirt Games feature winner Justin Grant (Ione, Calif.) took 4th and Fatheadz Eyewear/EPA Photography Fast Qualifier Chris Windom (Canton, Ill.) rounded out the top-five.

ANTHONY NOCELLA, NEW SMYRNA WORLD SERIES TOUR MODIFIED STAR, ENTERS TRENTON EAST COAST DIRT NATIONALS FEB. 21-22
TRENTON, NJ February 14, 2020 . . . The hottest driver in Florida during Speedweeks right now, Woburn, Mass., Asphalt Modified driver Anthony Nocella, winner of two of the first three asphalt Modified features at New Smyrna (FL) Speedway this past week, has filed an entry for the third annual East Coast Dirt Nationals being run inside the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, NJ, on February 21–22.
Nocella’s entry is among nearly 100 wingless 600cc sprints on the indoor banked, clay oval.
The 27-year old New Englander was the man to beat at this year’s week-long World Series Of Auto Racing in Florida, winning the Monday opener, leading most of the Tuesday race before settling for third, then winning the John Blewett, III Memorial 76-lap race Wednesday in a thrilling photo finish.
“I’ve won some big races, but this is definitely big, coming down here for just the second year and winning. Beating the competition here is pretty neat, that’s for sure. Some of these guys I never beat before,” shared Nocella.
His win in the Blewett Memorial featured a side by side battle with Matt Hirschman that lasted several laps and ended in a finish that many felt was too close to call. Nocella got the nod from officials.
Though Nocella’s more recent racing endeavors have consisted of racing Modifieds on pavement, he has considerable background racing 600 Micro Sprints on dirt.
“I started in karts and went to Micro Sprints. I ran them for a while and won a couple of championships at Whip City Speedway before I went to NEMA Midgets. The last time I drove a Micro Sprint on dirt was probably ten years ago.
“Rich Crooker from New Hampshire owns the car. He called me up and asked if I would be interested. I said yes, got my guys together, and entered the race. The car hasn’t been run in a while but it’s a good piece. Not very old, not the very newest. If we all do our job and everything aligns, we can do well,” Nocella expressed.
Much like the competition in Florida, the field in Trenton will be a challenge for Nocella, consisting of Micro Sprint regulars and stars from a variety of forms of racing.
Whitey Kidd, III won the 2017 inaugural running of the East Coast Dirt Nationals for the Micro Sprint regulars, while Dirt Modified and Indoor Racing standout Erick Rudolph drove Tommy Fraschetta’s car to a win in the second running in December of 2018.
Teams will arrive in Trenton on Thursday for closed door practice on the track which again be built with rich tacky black dustless clay. On Friday, by the luck of a blind draw, the field will be split into 10 heat races. Those who start in the back will benefit by points given for each car passed.
The top 60 in heat race points are then divided into four A-Main qualifiers of which the top three transfer directly to Saturday’s 40 lap A-Main event paying $5,000 to the winner.
On Saturday all non-qualified drivers are split into qualifying races by their results on Friday. Each of these events, starting with twin letter F-Mains transfer four to the next main until two B-Mains are reached on the scheduled. In the final qualifiers, the top six transfer to the A-Main which will start 24 cars.

TEENAGE TWO TITLE WINNING KENNY MILLER,III READY TO TAKE ON THE WORLD IN EAST COAST DIRT NATIONALS TRENTON INDOOR RACES FEB. 21-22
TRENTON, NJ February 12. 2020 . . . Kenny Miller, III, at 19 years of age, will be charging into Cure Insurance Arena in Trenton, NJ for the third annual East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals over the weekend of February 21-22 with one thought in mind: outrun the field of big name invaders and his fellow 600cc Sprint regulars to take home the top prize.
Miller, Morgantown, PA, has been a winner at every step of his young career. A USAC .25 National Champion in Quarter-Midgets, a 270cc Micro Sprint winner, an ARDC midget Rookie of the Year, and a 600cc Sprint feature winner. Even with all of that on his resume, 2019 was a break-out season for the fourth-generation racer.
Racing his family owned No. 23m, as he has for his entire career, the college sophomore recorded nine triumphs - the most he's ever scored in one season of 600 Sprint competition.
More significantly, Miller topped the standings in wingless 600 competition at Pa.’s Greenwood Valley Action Track and at Championship Energy Action Track USA on the Kutztown Fairgrounds.
All of that success has him pumped up and ready for battle in the upcoming East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals against many top name invaders from other racing divisions.
This will be Miller's third start in the event held previously in December of 2017. The first two years he was still in high school and a member of the school's varsity basketball team. He told the coach that he needed to attend a family wedding, out of state, so that he could be excused from practice to compete in the very first East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals.
Miller made it a memorable start, too, by finishing fourth in the second B-Main to qualify for the 40-lap feature. Miller then kept his nose clean and drove from 20th starting position to finish a nifty tenth on the tiny but ultra-competitive clay oval.
In the second running of the event, held in December of 2018, Miller was a freshman at Millersville University and on his holiday break from school. He was grouped into the Night Two field and won his heat race. Kenny finished third in his Qualifier race, just one spot out of a transfer into the A-Main. He finished third in one of the B-Mains on Saturday to qualify, but the A-Main proved to be quite the adventure.
Miller and Scott Kreutter took part in a very entertaining battle during the 50-lapper, but Kenny was also caught up in several tangles throughout the contest, and they relegated him to a 17th place finish.
Filled with the confidence gained by qualifying for both editions of the Indoor Dirt Nationals and an incredibly successful 2019 outdoor season, Kenny Miller III is ready to attack this year's event in Trenton.
"I don't think as much anymore when I'm on the track," he stated. "I just race hard and react to whatever happens. After running the Midget, I think, things slowed down when I got back in the 600. Everything seems to happen more slowly, even though we're going pretty fast in these cars, and that allows me to kind of see what's going to happen and react to it. I think that's why I've been more successful in the last couple seasons."
Miller is a driver who is looked up to by most, literally, in that he stands 6'5".
The teenage two time ‘19 Micro track champion is among a huge field expected or the third annual East Coast Dirt Nationals. The number of entries accepted will be 100, as dictated by building space constraints.

Kyle Larson goes wire-to-wire to score Jean Lynch Classic presented by Winn-Dixie main event victory at East Bay Raceway Park
TAMPA, Fla. (February 11, 2020) - Certainly synonymous with winning, especially in an open wheel automobile, ‘Yung Money’ Kyle Larson nearly swept Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 action on Tuesday night at East Bay Raceway Park, eventually leading every circuit of the inaugural Jean Lynch Classic presented by Winn-Dixie for a $5,000 payday.
The 30-lap triumph, the product of an outside-front row starting position, was just one portion of Larson’s near-domination to close-out the 2020 All Star Circuit of Champions Florida visit. The Elk Grove, California-native set the evening’s fastest time during qualifying time trials followed by a convincing victory during the second of two dashes.
Capping an East Bay visit that concluded with back-to-back runner-up performances, former World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year Ian Madsen finished second on Tuesday night, followed by Rudeen Racing’s Cory Eliason, a hard-charging Aaron Reutzel, who advanced ten positions, and ‘Smoke’ Tony Stewart.
“My goal here as of lately was to get to the double-digit win mark in the (NASCAR) off-season and we were able to get number ten here tonight,” Kyle Larson explained, driver of the Paul Silva-owned, Chevrolet Accessories, Finley Farms, No. 57 sprint car. “That’s not a bad stretch of races since Homestead ended. Hopefully we can move on and win a bunch of NASCAR races with Chip Ganassi Racing.”
Untouchable from start to finish, Larson’s only real challenges were in the form of cautions and lapped traffic, with the first caution appearing on lap seven and again on lap 29, ultimately setting up a two-lap dash to the finish. Needless to say, the momentum shifts proved to be no harm to the familiar No. 57, keeping KCP Racing’s Ian Madsen in the rearview mirror the entire distance even when traffic hit its peak during a 22-lap green flag stretch that extended until lap 29. The caution with two circuits remaining erased a near-five second advantage for Larson.
“I just felt good all night long and it’s really fun to have a car like that. I was actually looking forward to traffic because I knew I had such a good car,” Larson said, who now owns ten All Star Circuit of Champions victories. “I really didn’t want to see that last caution because the pace started to slow down in three and four and I was lapping guys around the bottom. You never know where second is, so you gotta figure they would probably go where I wasn’t. I was planning on going to the bottom so I was hoping they wouldn’t get around me. It all worked out great.
“It has been a struggle the last week or so,” Larson continued. “So it feels good to come to East Bay and be really good.”
