Brad Sweet opens 2020 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 season with DIRTcar Nationals victory at Volusia Speedway Park
BARBERVILLE, Fla. (February 5, 2020) - Officially activating the 2020 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 season, Grass Valley, California’s Brad Sweet earned himself another Gator Trophy in the Sunshine State, this time climbing ahead two spots to clinch the DIRTcar Nationals sprint car opening night victory on Wednesday evening at Volusia Speedway Park. The win, the fifth of Sweet’s career during All Star Circuit of Champions competition, secured the defending World of Outlaws champion a $5,000 payday; his second All Star triumph in as many seasons at the 'World’s Fastest Half-Mile Dirt Track.’
Ian Madsen, a former World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Rookie of the Year, chased Sweet to the final checkers, followed by Cory Eliason, a hard charging Kyle Larson from 14th, and James McFadden.
“I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work this off season,” Brad Sweet said, driver of the NAPA Auto Parts, Kasey Kahne Racing with Mike Curb, Team ASE, Factory Kahne, No. 49 sprint car. “Anytime you can roll out of the box and win is pretty special. It’s extra special with my daughter and wife here. It’s pretty neat to begin the year like this.”
Despite not taking command for the first time until lap 14, and dropping as far back as fifth after a restart due to caution on lap two, Sweet was a factor the entire 25-lap distance. Utilizing patience and finesse, the ‘Big Cat’ powered his way around Tim Shaffer to secure fourth on lap four, all before executing a perfect slider between turns three and four to regain third over James McFadden on lap six. Meanwhile, 2019 All Star Rookie of the Year Cory Eliason was at the front of the field, maintaining control while Ian Madsen kept a strong pace in the runner-up position. Madsen eventually moved by Eliason to take command on lap seven, using slower cars to help maneuver around the Rudeen Racing entry.
Also not deterred by slower cars, Sweet made his first bid for second on lap 12, relying on a familiar slider through turns three and four to hopefully secure his fate. Unfortunately, Sweet’s move was unsuccessful, ultimately forced to settle back into third. Two circuits later, Sweet was once again in a position to pounce, this time moving around Eliason before beating Madsen in a drag race back to the flagstand to officially lead lap 14. Sweet’s margin at the line was a mere-.023 seconds.
From that point forward, it was all Sweet at the front of the field, keeping Ian Madsen and Cory Eliason at bay the final 11 circuits to win by .9 seconds.
“Anytime you win, it’s fun. It was a great race,” Brad Sweet continued. “I was really searching for a line in three and four. The grease would go away, then someone would come by and splash up some water. It really altered the complexity of the race. You really had to be mindful of which lines you were taking and what was happening with the race track. My car could run up top, but it was definitely better on the bottom.”
What’s Next:
The All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their 2020 campaign with a second consecutive DIRTcar Nationals start on Thursday evening, February 6. Although sprint car competition will continue at the DIRTcar Nationals through Sunday, February 9, the All Stars will end their visit on Thursday, once again battling for a $5,000 top prize.
The Series will conclude their 2020 Florida vacation with a pair of East Bay Raceway Park starts on Monday and Tuesday, February 10-11. Dubbed the All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Winn-Dixie, the East Bay double will award a pair of $5,000 paydays. Fans should visit East Bay online at www.ebrp.co for additional information.

ANDY JANKOWIAK WINS SECOND STRAIGHT GAMBLER’S CLASSIC SATURDAY IN ATLANTIC CITY’S BOARDWALK HALL; CHAMP KART AND SLINGSHOT FEATURES WON BY DOUG STEARLY AND SCOTT NEARY
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ February 1, 2020 . . . Andy Jankowiak marched to the front from fourth starting spot to grab the lead on the third lap of Saturday night’s NAPA Know How Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels Gambler’s Classic in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall and held off Tim Buckwalter for the 40-lap feature victory.
“I knew Timmy (Buckwalter) was going to race me clean,” Jankowiak said. “He’s going to win one of these races soon. If I can’t win, I want to see him win.”
Buckwalter’s late race charge was hampered, he said, by a deflating rear that lost its remaining air in the post-race celebrations.
The latter stages of the race, which was highlighted by sustained, high speed, thrilling action, bodes well for the Indoor Auto Racing Series finale next month in Syracuse, NY.
Erick Rudolph finished third. He was right behind Buckwalter as early as lap four but became involved in a multi-car early race tangle that took out Ryan Flores and adversely affected his forward progress.
Matt Janisch, who came into this race as the Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels point leader ran a solid fourth with Briggs Danner fifth. Danner was driving a car owned by Janisch. Danner’s march from a 15th place start to fifth earned him the Hard Charger Award, sponsored by East Coast TQ Midgets in memory of the late Doug Craig. The award was worth $555.55, a reference to the late Craig’s lifelong car number, 55.
Doug Stearly of Trappe, PA came from the seventh row at the start of the Champ Kart feature and had to run down and pass Cale Ross of Lambertville, NJ to take the top prize. “We started 15th this year and had a lot of hard driving to do to win,” race winner Stearly said. He had won at Atlantic City last year for the first time under easier circumstances.
Scott Neary of Columbia, NJ held off a furious challenge from Jared Silfee of Saylorsburg, PA in the action-packed 25-lap Slingshot feature. “I was happy to see the caution flag we got late in the race,” Neary said. “It gave me a chance to regroup a little.” The win by Neary was the seventh at Atlantic City for car owner Randy Smith of Saylorsburg, PA and his first one-two finish as an owner in Boardwalk Hall.
An eight-car, five-lap TQ Dash set the starting spots for the first four rows of the Gambler’s Classic. Teenager Tyler Thompson won it over veteran Tim Buckwalter.
Four TQ Midget heats, each at ten laps, were taken by first time Indoor Auto Racing Series starter Dylan Woodling, Series point’s leader Matt Janisch, 600 Sprint driver Kyle Lick and Tommy Catalano.
Three wild 12-lap B-Mains, each with ten cars, awarded only the race winner with a transfer spot into the feature. The victors were Andy Nye, Michael Barnes and Chris deRitis.
Two Slingshot B-Mains each at 10 laps were won by Dave Carraghan and Josh Patterson while two Champ Kart B-Mains also at 10 circuits, were grabbed by Dalton Rovira and Brandon Tiezzi.

The Indoor Auto Racing Belfor Property Restoration ‘Concrete Series’ continues at the New York State Exposition Center in Syracuse, NY on Friday and Saturday, March 14 and 15 where the three Series championships will be determined.
The third annual East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals is the next event, at the Cure Insurance Arena in Trenton, NJ on Friday and Saturday, February 21 and 22.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 31, 2020 . . . After setting fastest time among 52 TQ Midget contenders on Friday afternoon, Andy Jankowiak of Buffalo, NY then raced to victory in the first of four 20-lap TQ Midget A-Main Qualifiers Friday night in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. Also winning TQ A-Main Qualifiers were Tim Buckwalter of Royersford, PA, Scott Kreutter of Alden, NY, and Bobby Holmes of Lockport, NY. Given that Buckwalter’s car was a ‘house car’ fielded by race car builder Mark Lafler of Ransomville, NY, all four qualifier winners were rooted in upstate New York.
Kyle Hutchinson, of East Aurora, NY won the first TQ race of the afternoon, capturing the 15-lap Dr. Lowe Non Qualifiers preliminary event. In so doing, he joined the other TQ heat race winners in the Saturday night feature field.
In Slingshot qualifying Friday action, Scott Neary was quick timer among 39 entries. Dylan Hoch, Matt Mertz and Alexendre Tardif won the three heat races
Tyler Brown topped the Friday Champ Kart time trial field which consisted of 49 entries, one of the largest in Indoor Auto Racing Series history in Boardwalk Hall. Doug Stearly, Jeremy Tuttle, and Ron Midford, Jr. were the Champ Kart heat winners.
In the first TQ Midget heat race, Joey Jarowicz of Lebanon, NJ cartwheeled through the third turn on the 12th lap caroming off the concrete wall. He was awake and alert as he was being assisted from the track by EMTs and was transported to an area hospital.
Day Two of the Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels continues Saturday, February 1 with spectator gates opening to Boardwalk Hall for Fanfest At Trackside, beginning at 5:00 PM. Racing begins at 7:00 PM and will consist of six TQ Midget heats, a TQ Dash that will establish the starting order of the eight fastest qualifiers from Friday’s Time Trials, and three TQ B-Mains.
The Champ Kart feature, over 25 laps featuring 24 cars is the first of the three features with the Slingshots running the same distance with the same size field.
The 18th Gambler’s Classic TQ Midget 40-lap feature, the highlight of NAPA Know How Weekend, is the final race of the night, followed by post-race accolades and special awards.

INDOOR AUTO RACING SERIES FUELED BY VP RACE FUELS ATLANTIC CITY THURSDAY PRACTICE SETS STAGE FOR RUNNING OF TQ MIDGET GAMBLER’S CLASSIC SATURDAY; ANDY JANKOWIAK QUICKEST OVERALL, MATT JANISCH AND BRIGGS DANNER FASTEST IN TWO SESSIONS
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 30, 2020 . . . Practice for 18th annual NAPA Know How Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels began at 5:00 PM sharp Thursday, January 30 inside historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. And at the end of the five hour session, defending Gambler’s Classic winner Andy Jankowiak was fastest of the sixty plus entrants.
Jankowiak, of Buffalo, NY, struggled at times during the practice, making a last minute spring and shock change at one point, and rigging a balky muffler fitting into place with a temporary fix.
Janisch, of Nazareth, PA., comes into the Gambler’s Classic as the Indoor Auto Racing Series points leader. Briggs Danner of Allentown, PA, drives a car owned by Janisch, The pair were each able to post top times in two sessions each.
Other drivers who were quick on the time sheets were Joey Jarowicz, Bobby Holmes and Anthony Sesely. Two others who appeared to be quick, Tim Buckwalter and first time entrant Chuck Hossfeld, did not have their cars equipped with transponders, which are necessary to register lap times.
Preparation Thursday prior to practice for the NAPA Know How Weekend involved transforming the concrete arena floor into a racetrack through the application of cola syrup and the erection of dozens of concrete barriers to form the outer and inner racetrack perimeter. The installation of infield tire barriers, the building of a race control tower and a starters’ stand, putting up warning light and scoring systems, and the hanging of event signage were among the many necessary tasks.
Well over 60 TQ Midgets, upwards of 40 Champ Karts and a like number of Slingshots are entered for the weekend of racing action and most were at the track for the optional practice session.
One of the more intriguing TQ Midget entrants practicing was Dylan Woodling of Warsaw, IN, who was driving a 600 Sprint of his own design.
“We built as much of the front and rear suspension as we could to be inboard,” Woodling said. “The idea is to create a durable car. It looks a little different and I’m looking forward to seeing how we do here. If we go well, we’ll probably go to Syracuse in March with it.”
Action gets underway in earnest on Friday with practice beginning at 1:00 pm for all three classes followed by time trials for all three classes.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 20, 2020 . . . Just months after formally announcing his retirement from racing, Ransomville, NY asphalt Modified ace Chuck Hossfeld has become the latest TQ (Three Quarter) Midget entrant in the NAPA Know How Indoor Auto Racing Series events inside Atlantic City, NJ’s famed Boardwalk Hall.
“When I made the announcement to retire I could not believe the attention I got,” said Hossfeld, “It has been very flattering and it is something that I will never forget.”
He won’t have to.
When the Indoor Auto Racing VP Series storms into Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, Hossfeld will buckle up behind the wheel of Joe Brainard’s No. 98 Tim Nye-built TQ Midget.
It will be the first ever Indoor Auto Racing Series start for Hossfeld, whose racing legacy includes four Race Of Champions Modified Touring Series titles achieved 21 years apart (1997, 2011, 2014, and 2018), His last RoC Series win came this past summer, in July, at Lancaster, NY Speedway.
Hossfeld finished second once and third twice in the points on the on NASCAR Whelen Modified Touring Series on the strength of seven career wins.
He also has made ten career NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck starts between 2000 and 2001 driving for Jack Roush with one top ten finish.
Andy Jankowiak, Ryan Flores and Erick Rudolph, the last three winners of the headline Gambler’s Classic TQ Midget races in the building come to Atlantic City are pre-race favorites.
‘Andy J’ of Buffalo, N.Y. still savors his 2019 Gambler’s Classic win as the highlight of his driving career and he wants nothing more to do it again.
After two rounds of Indoor Auto Racing Series action fueled by VP Racing Fuels, Matt Janisch is the current leader in the Championship standings. Janisch, of Nazareth, PA, had Allentown finishes of third and seventh.
Janisch leads upstate New York dirt Modified driver Ryan Bartlett in the TQ points heading into Atlantic City by ten points. Bartlett made his first start behind the wheel of a new-to-him Lafler built TQ Midget.
Allentown, Pa. opener winner Erick Rudolph is third, 17 markers out of first and Briggs Danner is fourth, 20 points out of the lead. Jankiowiak completes the top five, 24 points out of first.
Jeremy Haudricourt, Shawn Nye, Tim Buckwalter, Ryan Flores, who also won in Allentown, and Anthony Payne are sixth through tenth.
The wild and crazy Slingshots and darty Champ Karts will make up the tripleheader program as they have in the past.
Dylan Hoch and Tyler Brown, winners of the Allentown Indoor opening races in Slingshot and Champ Kart action, are atop their point standings heading into Atlantic City.
Danny Buccafusca is the reigning Atlantic City Indoor Slingshot race winner and Doug Stearly was the 2019 Champ Kart Atlantic City race winner. Both are entered in this year’s races.
Racing action begins on Friday at 7:30 p.m. with Saturday action getting the green flag at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 on Friday night. On Saturday doors open at 5 p.m. with fans holding reserved tickets given the opportunity to attend Fan Fest on the speedway. All cars competing in the program will be positioned on the speedway and drivers made available for autographs until 6:30.
Following the BELFOR “Concrete Series” event in Atlantic City, a special non-point event will be held on a banked clay oval. The third annual East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals will again be held at the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, N.J. on Friday and Saturday nights February 21st and 22nd featuring nearly 100 wingless 600cc Sprints.
The “Concrete Series” season finale follows on Friday and Saturday March 13th and 14th in a second year return to the brand new Expo Center located on the grounds of the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. N.Y.
Tickets are currently available in a range of different prices for all the Indoor Series events through links on www.indoorautoracing.com and the different venue box offices.
Lower level reserved seats for Saturday night in Atlantic City, which will gain attendees access to the coveted Fanfest are nearly sold out, but plenty of additional tickets are still available.

That said it all as Kyle Larson found redemption from a last-lap loss one year ago as the Elk Grove, California native finally captured the Golden Driller in the 34th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire.
Larson, in his 13th Chili Bowl attempt, and ninth A-Feature appearance, trailed the opening 38 laps as Christopher Bell took the lead from the pole.
Chasing into traffic early, the Lucas Oil No. 01 would close to just under a second before being gapped by over two seconds as the pair sliced through the back of the field.
Caution on Lap 34, the restart saw Larson keeping pace with Bell. Throwing the slide job into the first turn, Kyle wasn't quick enough as Bell raced by on the cushion. Slowed again three laps later, Larson again kept pace with the pair battling back and forth for the lead.
With momentum to his advantage, Larson dove the bottom of the first and second turn on Lap 39. Sliding across the nose of the Tucker-Boat No. 84x, Bell tried to turn under Kyle, but the drag race into the third turn saw Larson slam the door on Bell to take the race lead.
Holding off the charge through two more cautions, the final laps saw Bell close in, but would not have enough time as Larson crossed 0.801 seconds ahead of the 2019 race winner. Making his first championship feature event, Monday prelim winner Cannon McIntosh put the Keith Kunz Motorsports No. 71k on the podium in his first full weekend with the team.

Working the hub of the Tulsa Expo Raceway, Logan Seavey wheeled the Kevin Swindell Motorsports No. 39 forward seventh positions to fourth with Rick Abreu completing the top five. Jonathan Beason crossed sixth with 2020 Chili Bowl Rookie of the Year, Michael "Buddy" Kofoid finishing seventh. Having to charge from the back of the field twice, Blake Hahn fought to eighth to become the night's Hard Charger. Ryan Bernal and Tucker Klaasmeyer completed the top five.
Saturday's races began with double O-Features. Several drivers made impressive runs through the Alphabet with Chris Cochran advancing six times from the N-Feature to the I-Feature. Cale Conley, Casey Shuman, Brayton Lynch, and Alex Sewell all advanced through five events. Overall, it was the Boost Oxygen No. 11 who advance the most positions with a net gain of 43.
The 2020 Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire saw an overall field of 343 drivers from 40 states and six countries. The Worldwide Technologies Raceway Flip Count ended at 77, setting a new record for the Chili Bowl Nationals. All drivers were unharmed.
The 35th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire will take place January 11-16, 2021. Information about tickets will be posted as the information is finalized.
