LATE-RACE HEROICS NET COURTNEY LEFFLER MEMORIAL WIN

Wayne City, Illinois (October 17, 2019).........Big track or small track, Tyler Courtney has seemingly excelled at venues of all dimensions throughout the 2019 USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget season.
Thursday night at the smallest track on the campaign, the 1/8-mile Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, Illinois, Courtney delivered his second-straight late-race heroic effort, just weeks following his victory on the circuit's largest track, the 1/2-mile Eldora Speedway, where he emerged victorious in much the same manner.
Courtney chased defending Wayne City winner Tyler Thomas for 37 of the 40 laps before making the winning move with just three laps remaining to become the sixth different winner of the Jason Leffler Memorial in the six years of the event that honors the late, four-time USAC National champion.
"This is a big race. This is the Jason Leffler Memorial," Courtney exclaimed. "A lot of good guys have won this, and to add our name to the list, to go along with the rest of our season, it's been incredible."
And what a season it's been thus far. Courtney's Wayne City score was his eighth of the season, a number which makes him the first driver since Jeff Gordon in 1990 to win at least that many races in a single USAC National Midget season. His 13th career win with the series also elevated him to 51st on the all-time list alongside Steve Knepper, Don Meacham, Ryan Newman, Stevie Reeves and Tanner Thorson.
Courtney (Indianapolis, Ind.) started the main from the third position behind front row combatants Tyler Thomas and Jason McDougal who, oddly enough, occupied the front row in last year's Leffler Memorial as well.
Thomas burst out to the lead on the opening lap while Courtney ducked underneath McDougal in turn two to take over the second position. Courtney stalked Thomas around the bottom for the first six laps until Thomas went topside and Courtney followed suit.
Nearing the halfway point, heavy traffic lie in wait for Thomas who went on the offensive, aggressively attacking and gaining track position at will as Courtney became mired in his own jam in the distance.
A red flag on lap 24 for September BC39 winner Zeb Wise's flip in turn four, that also involved Gio Scelzi and Thomas Meseraull while battling for 9th, restocked and cleared the path of the frontrunners, namely Thomas, much to his chagrin.
"I tend to go better when we're in traffic," Thomas explained. "I can kind of be a little bit more aggressive. I've got a good enough car and feel comfortable being aggressive in traffic. I was hoping we'd get there, we did just a little bit, but for those last 16 laps, we didn't really have any lapped cars to throw a wrench in the mix."
Meanwhile, the stoppage came to the benefit of Courtney after being stuck and spinning his figurative wheels in the thick of gridlock.
"The red flag helped me a lot because I was struggling to get by those guys to lap them," Courtney admitted. "He got by them but couldn't quite get clear of them. But it was hard for me to clear those guys and I was starting to race Jesse Colwell as (Thomas) got away."
The lapped car of top series Rookie Andrew Layser separated Thomas and Courtney on the lap 25 restart, and he quickly went to the bottom. Jason McDougal took the new beginnings to heart and charged from 4th and grabbed 2nd from Courtney. Layser was good enough on the bottom on his own, disallowing Courtney a slider opportunity for the time being as he followed in line.
"I went to the bottom on the restart and followed my teammate, Layser," Courtney recalled. "I got by the first lapped car and went back to the top where I needed to be. I thought we were going to clear Layser for a while, but he held his ground there. It was kind of hard to get a run to slide and get the right angle and not take us both out."
Courtney drove it deep into turn four on the 28th lap, sliding up in front of McDougal to retake the second spot and set forth on the trail toward Thomas. Courtney inched closer and closer to Thomas, trailing by one to two car lengths in the waning laps with less than five to go.
On the 38th lap, Courtney saw his opportunity, cutting down off turn four to rip between Layser and Thomas entering turn one. Courtney slid up in front of Thomas by the exit of two where the three briefly went three-wide midway down the back straightaway. Thomas cut through the middle and threw it in deep into turn four, nearly touching wheels with Courtney, as they jostled for the same real estate. Courtney never blinked, stayed on the throttle and hit the stripe with the lead in his clutches.
"That allowed us to get a run and I could get enough space to clear (Thomas)," Courtney said. "We slid back and forth a couple times and I was able to use Layser as a pick down the backstretch to make sure (Thomas) didn't slide me back, and all of a sudden, the white's flying."
Thomas took swings at Courtney on both ends of the racetrack coming to the white flag, to no avail, as he couldn't quite stifle Courtney's momentum on the high line with McDougal just behind in 3rd, ready to pounce at an opportune time to steal one away. "I'm so disappointed in myself for being too cautious those last five laps, trying not to mess up," Thomas said. "(Courtney) was right there and did a great job capitalizing on what I couldn't do. It was a great night; anytime you can be on the podium with USAC, it's always a good night."
Courtney embraced the challenge and embraced victory once again for a 0.972 victory over Thomas, McDougal, KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Logan Seavey (from 19th) and Justin Grant rounding out the top-five.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA (October 15, 2019) – Thirty years of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series will close out 2019 at the Grandview Speedway with the twenty-second running of the Modified Traffic Jam, a 40 lap, $5,000 to win feature offering $1,000 to finish tenth and $500 just to start the main event. This Triple Thunder Thriller event will include the Sportsman and the MASS Sprint cars with race time set for 6 PM.
General Admission tickets are $25 for Adults, $10 for children age 6 through 11, and kids under 6 are FREE! Pit Admission is $40, and a license is not required. A special rules package is offered to competitors, with both American Racer and Hoosier tires allowed for competition, along with either Big-Block or Spec Small-Block engine combinations. The popular Sportsman division is also on the card, competing for a $1,300 top prize for 25-laps of competition on ‘the hill.’ The same tire rule is in effect for the Sportsman – competitors are allowed to compete on Hoosier or American Racer rubber. The MASS Sprint Cars will compete in heat race qualifying action and a 25-lap A-Main. Standard MASS club rules apply to competitors. Rookie Sprint Car Driver Ricky Dieva currently leads the MASS Sprint Car Series point standing with Tim Tanner, Jr. in second and Eddie Wagner in third. Other sprint entries include Jeff Geiges, Jon Haegele, Larry Mcvay, Joe Kay, Dom Melar, Scott Frack and Tom Carberry to name a few.

Tickets may be paid for and picked up at the Will Call Window on race night after 3:00 PM. Fans are invited to come dressed for the occasion, Halloween costumes will be popular attire for the night with awards going out to best dressed for children and adults. Please expect some Halloween candy and of course, this night always provides some tricks and treats along the way.
The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series Halloween Party has been a staple of the Grandview Speedway schedule for over 16 years and will once again include the fan Costume parade. Race fans young and old are encouraged to dress in costume to be eligible for special Halloween prizes.

WALL’S SPOOKY SPECTACULAR SET FOR SATURDAY (OCT. 19)
HUGE BINGO GAME IN GRANDSTANDS
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Daytime stock car racing and a huge Bingo game in the grandstand will highlight the annual Halloween themed “Spooky Spectacular” auto racing event at Wall Stadium Speedway this Saturday (Oct. 19). Although the current long range forecast says that October 19 will offer near perfect weather, officials are taking no chances as an October 20 rain date has been announced. Competitor pit area gates will open at 10:00 a.m., grandstand seating opens at 11:00 a.m. and qualifying starts at 1:40 p.m. with main events at 3:00 p.m.
The enormous “Boogeyman Bingo” games, which will offer several great prizes, will see the first round of Bingo start at 1:00 p.m. with the second round of Bingo starting at 2:30 p.m. Five Storm Troopers in full uniforms will also be on hand to meet and greet fans.
An impressive field of All American Auto Group Modified stock cars can be expected when a 75-lap main event offering $3,000 to the winner headlines the annual Spooky Spectacular stock car racing card.
Newly crowned three-time Modified driving champion Steven Reed of Jackson is expected to be a favorite as are 2019 top point earners Eric Mauriello of Brick, Derek Hopkinson of Toms River, Andrew Krause of Holmdel and Howell's Kevin Davison. Danny Bohn of Huntersville, N.C. Is among the invaders who have announced an entry.
Also on the Halloween themed card will be the O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stocks, led by 2019 champion Elliot Wohl of Beachwood, in a 50 lap race.
Sean Verwys of East Stroudsburg, Pa., the 2019 Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars champion, is expected to be in the field in a 25-lap main event and the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks, led by recent title winner Neil Rutt III of Edison, will race in a 25-lapper.
With the season-long title chase completed drivers in all divisions can forget about earning points and race strictly for the prize money offered. Mertens Jewelers will present commemorative money clips to each main event winner.
Fans are also welcome to wear their Halloween costumes to the track to add to the fun and fans are welcome to a free pumpkin while supplies last.
Once the October 19 event is in the books all attention will turn toward the annual running of the “Turkey Derby” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend during the daylight hours.

REALITY OF A DREAM: Christopher Bell wins at Tri-State Speedway as driver, owner
Bell wins an eventful night in Haubstadt, Brad Sweet extends points lead
HAUBSTADT, IN – Oct. 13, 2019 – After winning $100,000 in April through NASCAR’s Dash 4 Cash, Christopher Bell already knew what he would like to do with the money: purchase his own Sprint Car.
Six months later, the Norman, Okla. driver parked his self-owned No. 21 car in Victory Lane for the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series’ Sunday night event at Tri-State Speedway.
The victory was his fifth career World of Outlaws win – first as an owner in the Series – and first win at the speedway.
“So, I had four Outlaw wins coming into today and I promise you those four Outlaw wins would be in my, arguably top-five, definitely top-ten of my favorite wins of my life,” said an elated Bell. “To get number five here with my own race car and a group of friends working on this thing is really special.”
The Indiana race was Bell’s fourth time in his own car, which he built with friend Chad Boat. He already had one win in it, too. However, throughout the night, you would’ve thought he’d been racing it for years. Bell even claimed he wasn’t good at the quarter-mile track.
He first dispelled that allegation with strong runs in his Drydene Heat race, where he finished second, and the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, where he finished third. In both races he had a car capable of charging to the lead but ran out of laps to do so.
In the Feature, Bell had 40 laps to accomplish his mission.
Sweet jumped to the lead at the start of the race with Brent Marks and Bell in tow. However, five cautions – which separately involved drivers such as David Gravel, Sheldon Haudenschild and Donny Schatz – in the first 12 laps hindered the top three from finding a rhythm.
Bell highlighted his speed in that time span, sliding by Marks for second during a short run in between cautions.
After the accident on Lap 12, the race went caution free for the remaining 28 laps. With Schatz mired in the back of the field, Sweet was poised to have a strong points day, especially if he could secure the win. However, Bell wasn’t sympathetic to his cause.
Both almost saw their winning desire vanish on the restart with 28 laps to go. Third-place Kerry Madsen dove underneath Bell and Sweet in turn three, eyeing the lead. The Australian couldn’t find the grip to exit the corner ahead of them and fell back to third by turn one.
The battle was then Sweet versus Bell. Sweet ran high, while Bell slung his car around the bottom of the track, creeping closer and closer to the NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 car every lap. And Sweet knew it.
On Lap 16 the Californian stole Bell’s line, running the bottom in turns three and four. Bell countered his move and switched to the high side of the track.
The beneficiary of the swap proved to be Bell. He got a run off turn four, propelling him to Sweet’s rear bumper down the front stretch. He stayed high into turn one, as Sweet went low and, again, charged off the corner with momentum. This time, he was able to use it to dart underneath Sweet into turn three and clear him for the lead by turn four, officially taking it on Lap 18.
“I felt good all night long and I knew our car was really close,” Bell said. “Honestly, we didn’t really change very much all night long. We kept getting those short stints and I felt fine. I felt like I just needed to get some time underneath of us and get going.”
The race was then Bell’s to lose. He distanced himself from Sweet, even with lap traffic creating an unpredictable obstacle course in front of him. Sweet began to fade by the halfway point, losing second to Madsen and eventually falling to fifth. Madsen didn’t have anything for Bell, but another threat behind him did.
After finding himself at the back of the field due to being involved in an early caution, Haudenschild moved his way into fifth with 19 laps to go. He was third with nine laps to go and second with five laps to go. The NOS Energy Drink No. 17 was an unstoppable bullet. But time was not in his favor and Bell worked lap traffic with ease.
However, worry did set in for Bell in the closing laps, unsure how his car would handle as the track changed and if he would have enough fuel to finish.
“This track just changes so much,” Bell said. “I’ve never gone good here before in my life. This is the first time I’ve come to Haubstadt and been competitive. I learned a lot today.”
By the time Bell sped past the waving checkered flag, he had a 3.7 second lead over Haudenschild.
“I set us back tonight with qualifying and getting in that mess in four, just really put us behind,” Haudenschild said. “After I did that my goal was to get back to where I was and go from there. On this type of track we know we’re going to have restarts. Just tried to get track position as early and quick as I could on those restarts and just try to pick them off after that.”
Madsen rounded out the podium with his brother Ian Madsen finishing fourth and Sweet ended the night fifth. After being involved in two accidents, Schatz managed a 13th-place finish but is now 30 points behind Sweet.
Wins are all that matter to Bell when it comes to racing with the World of Outlaws. Every one of them he cherishes, he said, especially when they’re with friends.
“Everyone works their tails off on it, but it’s a lot of fun because we’re all friends,” Bell said. “Just very thankful to be here driving this thing.”

Hafertepe Unchallenged With Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series At Creek County Speedway

(October 12, 2019) Leading start to finish for his ninth victory of the season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. made it back-to-back wins in the John Christner Trucking Fall Fling presented by James Hodge Ford at Creek County Speedway.
Sam's 46th career National Tour victory, the Sunnyvale, Texas driver is now tied with Tim Crawley for fourth in overall wins.

"It's been a long time since I've been out of the front straightaway, I don't even remember what it feels like," chuckled Sam who reclaimed the National Tour point's lead by 14 markers.
Taking lessons from the COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tire, Hafertepe was able to put his J&J Chassis anywhere he needed too throughout the 30-lap SawBlade.com A-Feature.
"This was an awesome Racecar. I don't think there was a better car here all night. We didn't touch it, we just left it alone, and we definitely got the balance back in this thing. It's back to a dominate Racecar and going to Devil's Bowl next week, that's one of my favorite tracks in the world. I can't wait for that."
Taking the lead from the right of the front row, Hafertepe was trailed by Tucker Doughty for the opening lap before Matt Covington shot in second. Opening his lead to nearly two seconds, Hafertepe's advantage dropped quickly as the leaders hit traffic on Lap 7.
Caution working Lap 9 for debris, Covington looked for a way around Hafertepe but with no success. Opening his advantage again, lapped traffic was of little issue for the Heidbreder Foundation No. 15h.
Under caution working Lap 28, slower cars in the mix shook things up behind Hafertepe as Roger Crockett moved by the No. 95 for second. With clean air to his advantage, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. raced to the finish with a 2.224-second advantage over Crockett's Route 66 Chevrolet No. 11. Battling a shower of power steering fluid over the final few laps that kept the No. 95 off the cushion, Matt Covington managed to hold on for his seventh podium finish of the season. Tyler Thomas in fourth was followed to the finish by Jordon Mallett.
A comeback night for Howard Moore, who had power steering issues early in the evening, the A.G. Rains owned No. 3 crossed sixth with Seth Bergman hard charging from 18th to seventh after racing ninth to second in the BMRS B-Feature. Blake Hahn picked up three spots to eighth with Robbie Price in ninth. After nearly going upside down on Lap 18, El Paso's John Carney II rebounded to a tenth-place finish.
A field of 34 was on hand for the John Christner Trucking Fall Fling presented by James Hodge Ford. Four SCE Gaskets Heat Races went to Matt Covington, Tyler Thomas, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., and Jordon Mallett. BRMS B-Feature was topped by Sean McClelland. One provisional was taken by Alex Hill.
The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network returns to competition on Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19 at the famed Devi's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. Tickets are on sale now at www.devilsbowl.com.
