Terre Haute, Indiana (September 9, 2019).........Friday's Jim Hurtubise Classic begins a USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car doubleheader weekend in the Hoosier state this Friday, September 13, at one of USAC's longest-tenured venues, the Terre Haute Action Track, which hosted its first USAC Sprint Car event more than six decades ago, in 1957.
Friday's race honors the most successful USAC Sprint Car driver in those early years at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds half-mile, Jim Hurtubise, who won five-straight between 1960 and 1962. "Herk," a 1993 inductee into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, first had an event in his name at the Terre Haute Action Track in 1990, less than a year following his passing, a race won by Jack Hewitt.
This year, the event enters its 20th running with two-time USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car champion Brady Bacon scoring the most recent victory at the Hurtubise Classic last September. Bacon has had a notable run of success in the event as one of three drivers to win the Hurtubise Classic on multiple occasions, first winning in the Fall of 2014 aboard the Dynamics, Inc. No. 69. The Terre Haute USAC one-lap track record holder from Broken Arrow, Okla. aims to become the first driver to pilot the Dynamics, Inc. to victory lane at Terre Haute twice following previous singular victories by Robbie Stanley (1993), Tracy Hines (2003) and Jerry Coons, Jr. (2010).
Chris Windom (Canton, Ill.) is one of the three multiple-time Hurtubise Classic winners alongside Hewitt and Bacon, capturing three in 2011-2016-2017. With one more victory on Friday, he would surpass Hewitt as the winningest Hurtubise Classic driver of all-time. Windom has won four times overall in USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car competition at Terre Haute and once in Silver Crown, plus his latest triumph there at the western Indiana dirt oval, scoring an MSCS win in August.
The very first win of Chase Stockon's USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car career came right at Terre Haute during the 2012 Jim Hurtubise Classic. The current Fort Branch, Ind. resident who grew up in nearby Sullivan, Ind., has three USAC Sprint wins overall at Terre Haute, including the Tony Hulman Classic in May of this year. This Friday, he hopes to become USAC's ultimate ironman. One more start would be his 285th consecutive with the USAC National Sprint Car division, surpassing Levi Jones for the longest such streak in series history.

Tyler Courtney was the victor in the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car division's most recent visit to Terre Haute in July during Indiana Sprint Week where he led the final nine laps for the victory. In fact, the Indianapolis, Ind. native swept the event, earning quick time in qualifying, winning his heat and pulling off the trifecta in the A-Main. Courtney has won three of the last five at Terre Haute and is the most recent winner in the series, in August at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway.
The last driver to win at Terre Haute before Courtney began his run of three out of five at the beginning of the 2018 season is Kevin Thomas, Jr. Thomas (Cullman, Ala.) has won twice at the Action Track in USAC National Sprint competition. He emerged victorious after a scintillating battle with Dave Darland during the final laps of the ISW round in 2013, then reigned supreme near the end of 2017. Like Courtney, he's gunning for his first Hurtubise Classic win, where he finished 5th a year ago.
So is C.J. Leary, who's stood in victory lane once before with USAC at Terre Haute after scoring his first career National series win in a Silver Crown car at the Sumar Classic in 2016. Leary was 9th and 6th in his two Terre Haute starts this year en route to the 121-point lead in the series standings he holds entering Friday's race. The Greenfield, Ind. driver was quick time in qualifying at Terre Haute in May, one of his series-leading eight this year. He led the first five laps and finished 4th in the 2018 Hurtubise Classic.
Justin Grant (Ione, Calif.) led 21 laps and finished 2nd in the series appearance at Terre Haute in July. He took 5th in May and is 4th in the series standings entering Friday's event at Terre Haute where he has not yet won at in USAC competition. He owns two USAC National Sprint points-paying wins this season as well as a special event at Kokomo in August.
Jason McDougal (Broken Arrow, Okla.), a winner in both USAC's National Sprint Car and Midget series in 2019, earned a 7th place finish in his Terre Haute USAC Sprint Car debut in 2018. He was 10th in his first Hurtubise Classic appearance last Fall and took 7th again in his return to Terre Haute this past May.
Isaac Chapple (Willow Branch, Ind.) took 13th in his most recent Hurtubise Classic ride last September. The 2016 USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year was the hard charger at Terre Haute back in May, finishing 10th. He was 12th during the series return in July and resides 10th in the series standings.
The 163rd USAC Sprint Car event at the Terre Haute Action Track will also have the DIRTcar Modifieds on hand. Pits open at 3pm Eastern, grandstands at 4pm and cars on track at 6:30pm. Adult grandstand tickets are $25 while adult infield tickets are $15. Kids 11 and under are free. Pit passes are $35 apiece.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA (September 9, 2019) . . . . The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill finale will take place at the Grandview Speedway on Saturday night, October 19. A Spooktacular event returns to the “haunted hill” with the 22nd running of the Modified Traffic Jam, a 40 lap feature event paying $5,000 to win, $1,000 for tenth-place and $500 to start the twenty-four car starting field for all who pre-enter. The Sportsman and MASS Sprint Cars will also be a part of this Triple Thunder Thriller event with pit gates opening at 2:30 PM, general admission tickets go on sale at 4 PM with the green flag falling on heat race qualifying at 6 PM.
Fans interested in advance tickets may order them by calling 443-513-4456. Please speak clearly and leave your name and the number of tickets you would like. Tickets may be paid for and picked up at the Will Call Window on race night after 3:00 PM. Advance ticket holders may enter the grandstands at 3:30 PM, one-half hour before general admission tickets going on sale at 4 PM. Advance tickets orders will be available until 9 AM on race day, Saturday, October 19 with general admission tickets go on sale at 4 PM.
This haunting Halloween trick-or-treat celebration will spotlight the Modified Traffic JAM — a race rich in history, starting back in 1998. Duane Howard is an expected entry along with Jeff Strunk, Craig VonDohren, Billy Pauch Jr, Rick Laubach and defending Traffic Jam winner Ryan Watt.
A special rules package is offered as a ‘treat’ to the region’s competitors, with both American Racer and Hoosier tires allowed for competition, and either Big-Block or Spec Small-Block engines permitted. There is no entry fee but drivers must pre-enter to be eligible for the posted payoff. Drivers may pre-enter by calling 443 513 4456. The popular Sportsman division is also on the card, competing for a $1,300 top prize for 25-laps of competition on ‘the hill.’ The same tire rule is in effect for the Sportsman – competitors are allowed to compete on Hoosier or American Racer rubber. Grandview Sportsman rules are in effect and competitors are allowed to run sail panels. Full rules are available on the Grandview Speedway website.
The MASS Sprint Cars will compete in heat race qualifying action and a 25-lap A-Main. Standard MASS club rules apply to competitors.
Fans are invited to come dressed for the occasion, Halloween costumes will be popular attire for the night with awards going out to best dressed for children and adults. Please expect some Halloween candy and of course, this night always provides some tricks and treats along the way.
The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series Halloween Party has been a staple of the Grandview Speedway schedule for over 16 years and will once again include the fan Costume parade. Race fans young and old are encouraged to dress in costume to be eligible for special Halloween prizes.
‘Joe the Pizza Dude’ will offer up hot, delicious, and FREE pizzas to the rowdiest of race fans before the action kicks off. Make some noise when ‘The Pizza Dude’ comes around, to earn yourself a free pizza!.

4 FEATURE RACES HEADLINE WALL STADIUM'S BIKE NIGHT THIS SATURDAY (SEPT. 14)
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Four stock car feature races will highlight “Bike Night” competition at Wall Stadium Speedway this Saturday evening (Sept. 14). On “Bike Night,” all fans who ride a motorcycle to the speedway will enjoy a half price grandstand admission and young fans will have a chance to win one of six children's bicycles that will be given away.
The All American Auto group Modified stock cars will race in a 40-lapper while the Center State Engineering Sportsman cars, the O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stocks and the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks will fill out the card in 25-lap main events. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. and qualifying is set for 5:45 p.m. The evening’s main event action will follow around 7:00 p.m.
On the dust free third mile high-banked paved oval competition will see former champ and current Modified point leader Steven Reed of Jackson, Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Neptune's Chris Andretta, Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan, Tyler Truex of Mayetta, Derek Hopkinson of Toms River and Jackson's Jason Treat, just to name a few, competing in a 40-lap feature race.
Title contenders Carsten and Jarret DiGiantomasso and Kyle Scisco, all of Jackson, will lead the Sportsman racers into battle. The Factory Stocks will see title contenders Elliot Wohl of Beachwood, Scott Riggleman of Manchester, Scotch Plains' Tim Majek and Wall's Bryan O'Shea leading the pack. The 4 Cylinder Stocks will be led by point leader Neil Rutt III of Edison, Alonzo Morales of Mt. Ephraim, Neptune City's Jeffrey Loesch and Ryan Maher of Neptune, plus many more.
Saturday’s schedule will see the competitor pit area open at 1:00 p.m. Regular practice will start at 3:00 p.m., while spectator seating will open at 5:00 p.m. Qualifying for the night’s program starts at 5:45 p.m. and main events will follow at 7:00 p.m.
Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on Saturday evenings through October 5. Special events are also featured in the fall including the “Spooky Spectacular” on October 19 and the season ending Turkey Derby on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.

Aaron Reutzel scores largest payday of career during historic Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway
PORT ROYAL, Pa. (September 7, 2019) - Solidifying the largest payday of his career, as well as regaining the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 championship points lead, Clute, Texas-native Aaron Reutzel etched his name in Port Royal Speedway history books on Saturday night by scoring the 52nd running of the prestigious, as well as historic, Tuscarora 50. Accompanied by a $52,000 payday, Reutzel’s victory at the Port Royal ‘Speed Palace’ was accomplished in impressive fashion, first outdueling six-time Tuscarora 50 champion Lance Dewease, all before holding off a hard-charging Anthony Macri.
Although Reutzel’s trip to the Port Royal Speedway victory lane stage was a first-ever feat for the defending All Star champion, the Texan is certainly no stranger to Series victory lane, now with 12 wins on the season, as well as 21 during a short, but acclaimed, full-time All Star career.
Earning the evening’s MSD Performance Hard Charger Award in the process, Dillsburg’s Anthony Macri advanced ten positions to finish second during Tuscarora 50 competition, followed by Lance Dewease, Danny Dietrich and Logan Wagner.
“Holy shit. Unbelievable,” an elated Aaron Reutzel said on the Port Royal victory lane stage, driver of the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports/Folkens Brothers Trucking/Fischer Body Shop/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/No. 87 sprint car. “I’ve wanted to win this race so bad since the first time we came here. We got lapped by (Lance Dewease) that night. We were going to need a perfect race car that we could just maintain. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. This means a lot to me, to come into Pennsylvania and win one of the biggest races they have. I just don’t know what to say.”
Scheduled to start from the pole position, Hartford, Ohio’s Dale Blaney was forced to surrender his place at the front of the field due to engine issues. With Blaney’s spot vacant, fellow front row occupant Lance Dewease inherited the pole position for the start of the 50-lap program.
Utilizing his new starting spot, Dewease immediately jumped out to a commanding lead, extending his advantage to just over two seconds with only three laps checked off the counter. McFadden slipped into second just after the opening green, followed by Alan Krimes and Aaron Reutzel.
A caution on lap four negated Dewease’s advantage just as quickly as he earned it. Despite the momentum shift, the ensuing restart allowed Dewease to resume control, now with Aaron Reutzel in tow, who drove around Alan Krimes for third on lap three before battling beyond James McFadden for second following the lap four restart.
Not phased by Dewease’s pace after green flag conditions returned, Reutzel did what he could to hunt down the Fayetteville, Pennsylvania-native, relying on a quick, but very narrow cushion around the outer edge of the speedway. By lap ten, Reutzel cut Dewease’s command to less than a second, still relying on the highest groove on the speedway.
Traffic entered the picture for the first time on lap 12 which set the stage for Reutzel’s first bid for the lead. One circuit later, Reutzel was the new man in charge, using the top groove in turns one and two to blast around Dewease while he was hung up in slower traffic.
It would not take long for Dewease to return the favor on Reutzel, charging back to less than a car length by lap 16, all before drag racing the pilot of the No. 87 back to the flagstand on lap 19, and again on lap 20. The race for the lead on lap 20 ended in Dewease’s favor, crossing the line a mere .02 seconds ahead of Reutzel. Dewease maintained the lead until yellow flags waved for a competition stoppage on lap 25.
After a five minute break to allow teams to make adjustments and add fuel, green flag action returned with Dewease leading the way over Reutzel, Logan Wagner and Danny Dietrich.
Within two laps, Reutzel was back on the tailtank of Dewease, eventually setting himself up for a takeover attempt as the front runners crossed under the flagstand to complete lap 27. By the time the leaders exited turn two, it was Reutzel who was back in charge, once again utilizing the top groove through turns one and two to drive around Dewease.
Successfully pulling away, Reutzel’s only challenges during the remaining distance were periods of traffic, as well a fast-closing Anthony Macri. Macri, who advanced ten spots during the 50-lap main event, closed Reutzel’s lead to just over a second. Unfortunately for Macri, time was out.
“When I got by Lance, I said screw it. I’m going to give this 110%. I’m going for broke,” Aaron Reutzel continued. “We’re either going to put it in the fence or walk out of here $52,000 richer. I gave it my all and luckily it paid off. I just want to thank my guys. I really don’t know what else to say.”

Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their final month of competition with a fourth consecutive weekend consisting of three events or more, this time returning aim back to the highbanks of Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio. The traveling All Stars will headline three straight nights of action at the ‘World’s Fastest 3/8-Mile Oval,’ kicking off with ‘Speedweek Re-Loaded’ on Thursday evening, September 12.
Dean Knittel Memorial action will headline the next two evenings at Atomic Speedway beginning with ‘The Night Before The Knittel’ on Friday night, September 13, awarding a total winner’s share equalling $5,054. The Dean Knittel Memorial finale will follow on Saturday evening awarding a monstrous $12,554 payday.

SOLID GOLD: Daryn Pittman wins second Gold Cup with dominating performance
Pittman brings California’s Roth Motorsports to Victory Lane at Silver Dollar Speedway
CHICO, CA – Sept. 7,2019 – Daryn Pittman’s hope of winning a second Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway Saturday night manifested into reality every 12 seconds.
Even with Friday night’s winner Brad Sweet breathing down his neck, the Oklahoma driver continued to be the first car across the start/finish line every lap.
However, with two laps to go, that manifestation was put on halt. A caution came out, putting Sweet on his bumper. Flashbacks of a previous Gold up loss projected in his head.
“I was having flashbacks of, I don’t know, [2014] or something and we led the whole race,” Pittman said. “It laid rubber on the bottom of (turns) one and two and I found that. It didn’t lay rubber in (turns) three and four until the last couple of laps and Johnathon Allard snuck by me coming to the checkered. That one still stings.”
Uninterested in repeating that pain, Pittman closed the deal this time. Leading every lap, he won his second Gold Cup and fourth World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series victory of the year.
“Hats off to this whole Roth Motorsports team to get a win here in California, the Gold Cup, the biggest race in California,” Pittman said about giving his California-based team a home state win. “To win it for Dennis and Teresa (Roth) is just awesome.”
While Pittman led every lap of the 40-lap Feature, his path to victory was not immediately paved with gold.
After a 17th-place finish Friday night, Pittman and his Roth Motorsports crew needed a new approach. And a little bit of luck.
They showed speed at the start of the night by Qualifying fourth. That placed Pittman on the outside pole for his Drydene Heat race where he took the lead from Sweet at the start and went on to win.
Then luck helped out. He drew the pole of the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, and went on to win that, too.
He pulled away to about a straightaway lead in the first six laps of the Feature, with David Gravel in second and Sweet fighting his way past Brent Marks for third. Pittman found himself in lap traffic by that point, too, until a caution on Lap 10 for Kraig Kinser going off track in turn four.
On the restart, Gravel stayed close to Pittman and launched in front of him for the lead in turn one. However, before the field could complete another lap, the yellow lights around the speedway turned back on for Ian Madsen in the turn four wall. The lap was not completed and Pittman remained the leader.
Sweet, looking for his first Gold Cup victory in his home state, had fallen back to fourth-place. However, on a restart with 26 laps to go, after a red flag for Jacob Allen flipping, Sweet powered his way by Marks for third down the front stretch and then rode the high side to take second away from Gravel before completing the lap.
While the “Big Cat” tried to track Pittman down, Gravel, Marks, Logan Schuchart and Tim Kaeding traded slide jobs and crossover maneuvers for countless laps, arguing over who would be third. Schuchart silenced the argument by taking third with six laps to go and the leaders in his sight.
“I love working out, I love being in shape for this deal and I’ve tried doing that in the past and sometimes I don’t feel like it makes a difference, but tonight it did,” Schuchart said. “The guys in front were starting to slow down a little bit and I was able to still race it hard and jump across the spots I needed to and make a lot of ground up.”
Pittman found himself caught in heavy lap traffic, unable to always make a quick pass. Sweet and Schuchart fed off that, inching closer to the Roth Enterprises No. 83 car. Sweet even got close enough in the closing laps to dive underneath Pittman – slowed by lap cars – and take the lead.
Pushing the handling of his car to its limits, Pittman charged back around Sweet for the led the next corner, never allowing the Kasey Kahne Racing driver to officially lead a lap.
Then with a late caution, he had to hold on to that mentality for two more laps. He was not going to allow a repeat of 2014’s race. Mastering his restarts all night, Pittman put about a three-car length lead on Sweet into the first corner and kept it that way to the finish. The hope of winning was now a reality.
“My thought process was run as hard as you can on the top, because that’s what I thought it was going to take to win,” Pittman said. “I feel like at the green-white-checkered I went has hard as I had. The hard part about that is when you run hard against that tricky of a cushion, you’re putting yourself at risk to make a mistake and take yourself out. But I was more OK with trying too hard and losing than going too slow and trying to be safe.”
Sweet’s thought process was “attack, attack, attack,” he said. However, Pittman was just too strong.
“He had a good enough of a lead there, no matter how good, he would’ve had to mess up,” Sweet said. “He drove a great last two laps. We gave it all we had with the NAPA Auto Parts car. I was trying to move around and got my wing back a little too far I think at one point and got myself tight. I was a great race. We gave it all we had.”
While Sweet missed out on winning another Gold Cup, his runner-up finish was his third podium finish in-a-row. In those three races he's also cut 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz’s points lead over him down from 36 points to six.
Schatz was on track to potentially lose the points lead after taking the final transfer spot in the Last Chance Showdown to start last in the Feature. He came close to getting lapped in the first half of the race, but was able to fight his way to an eighth-place finish in the final half – earning him the Hard Charger award for the race.
For Pittman, he earned himself his 85th career World of Outlaws victory, moving him past his hero, Stevie Smith, to be the ninth winningest driver on the all-time Series wins list. He also earned himself $15,000 and another glistening golden cup trophy – his first Gold Cup was earned 13 years ago.
“There’s not many drivers that can say they were here 13 years ago,” Pittman said with a smile. “Part of that dates me. It makes me feel old. But I feel like I’ve got a lot of good years left in me. I’m having a lot of fun, especially when you get good cars like this to drive.”

SEAVEY SOARS TO SPECTACULAR RIM-RIDING WIN AT SPOON RIVER
CANTON, ILL. (September 7, 2019) - Putting an exclamation point on a weekend sweep, Logan Seavey of Sutter, Calif. continued his winning ways on Saturday night with an exciting late-race rally to take the cake at Spoon River Speedway. Going top shelf, Seavey tiptoed around the outside of the 3/8th-mile and treaded the cushion while rocketing to the lead with five to go and storming off for his ninth POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League win of the year
In a season chalked full of dominance, Saturday's triumph gave Seavey yet another accolade in his booming career. Not only did the 22-year old Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports star sneak closer to Christopher Bell's record of 11 POWRi National Midgets wins in a single season, but he became the all-time leader in a separate category.
Scoring his 17th-career victory in thrilling fashion, the Sutter, Calif. native advanced to eighth on the all-time wins list and surpassed Darren Hagen of Riverside, Calif. to become the winningest California driver in POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League history.
Before the pageantry of yet another victory lane commenced, a trio of leader commanded the field in what was an all-around enticing 30-lapper. Started by the front row of Tanner Carrick and Jake Neuman, it was Neuman of New Berlin, Ill. who found the top first and led the opening lap aboard his Jim Neuman Racing, Brandt, BOSS/SR-11 No. 3N.
Neuman's advantage was shortlived, however, as Carrick of Lincoln, Calif. came bolting to the lead on lap two and pointed his Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports, Walker Filters, Bullet/Toyota No. 71K to the top. Bringing his KKM teammate along for the ride, Carrick saw a charging Seavey throw several sliders his way early on but responded to every attempt and maintained command lap-in and lap-out.
While Carrick and Seavey were focused on each other, a new challenger came roaring to life as Tyler Thomas of Collinsville, Okla. methodically rolled the low line and put his BT Machine, Spike/Toyota No. 91T in contention. With open track ahead, Thomas drove by both Seavey and Carrick to assume the race lead on lap eight.
A lap ten caution restacked the field and bunched them up, but Thomas remained strong out front while Seavey struggled with passing Carrick for the second spot and the back end of the top five continued shuffling with Spencer Bayston, Tucker Klaasmeyer, Ace McCarthy and Zach Daum all battling.
However, that intense fight for position soon turned drastic, as Bayston's No. 19 and Klaasmeyer's No. 27 collided at the entry to turn three, resulting in both cars going for nasty tumbles. Both drivers would climb out of their respective cars, although very gingerly, showing the magnitude of the scary crash.
Going back to green with 11 laps left, fans at Spoon River were treated to a three-way for the top spot as Thomas crept down low, Carrick rolled through the middle and Seavey. Blasted the cushion. Finding the sweet spot up top, Seavey swept around the outside and built his momentum before flying by Carrick and then tracking down Thomas for the lead with five to go.
Clearing the pass at the exit of turn four, Seavey's No. 67 rocketed off the banking and went screaming down the frontstretch as he edged ahead of Thomas' No. 91T to lead the 25th lap. Keeping it close, Thomas kept Seavey honest and made it a close race until a slow lapper on the bottom held him up and essentially handed Seavey the W.
Leading only five laps, Logan Seavey lurked in the late running and capitalized for his ninth POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League win of the 2019 season. Completing a weekend sweep for the Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports, Mobil 1, Bullet/Toyota No. 67, Seavey won his first-ever event at Spoon River all the while inching closer to the history books.
Trailing Seavey to the finish line was Tyler Thomas with a close second-place result and Tanner Carrick with a third-place effort. Rounding out the top five was Zach Daum and Jesse Colwell, while top ten finishers included Ace McCarthy in sixth, Jesse Love in seventh, Andrew Layser in eighth, Holley Hollan in ninth and Daison Pursley in tenth.
The POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League resumes next weekend with a trip to Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill. on Friday, September 13 and then a night at Macon Speedway in Macon, Ill. on Saturday, September 14.

WILLMAN FINALLY BREAKS THROUGH WITH NASCAR MODIFIED WIN AT GRANDVIEW SATURDAY NIGHT
LEIBY, CASSEL AND DECKER ARE ALSO WINNERS

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. September 8, 2019 . . . John Willman led the past three T.P. Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified 30-lap features, but always fell laps short of being in victory lane at the drop of the checkered.
The veteran racer missed several Saturday nights at the 1/3-mile Grandview Speedway oval due to engine problems or lack of crew help.
The “Ultimate Underdog” hasn’t won a feature since April 3, 2010, but Willman changed the status of that to be the ninth different winner this season in the Modified division. He ran every groove possible once he put the Hampton Bros./Carroll Hine powered No. 74W in front on the seventh lap. No matter which lane runner-up and current point leader Duane Howard ran he couldn’t get around or underneath him for the pass. Not only did Willman have to deal with Howard, Jeff Strunk joined the mix near the end for a three-way battle.
Willman dedicated the win to his father-in-law who is in ill-health and his wife Beth who was not in attendance since she was home with him.
In the TP Truck Equipment NASCAR Sportsman 25-lap feature, 16-year-old rookie Jimmy Leiby, who became a regular competitor with a crate motor in late July, took over the lead on the eighth lap and went on to win his first-ever career victory by holding off a fast closing second place Mike Mammana who gained ground as they approached lap traffic. Leiby is the 14th different winner in the division
Andy Cassel won the 10-lap Modified feature in the Blast From The Past while Rich Decker collected the win in the Vintage division.
Providing the feature winners met the necessary requirements, they received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and a certificate from VP Fuels for product awards. The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award recipients were Willman and Leiby. An extra $100 went to Leiby for being the highest finishing crate engine driver.
The final NASCAR point races of the season are set for Saturday, September 14 as WNPV-AM Radio Champion’s Night is presented. The T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds and T.P.Trucks Equipment Sportsman racing talents will battle it out for the lucrative championships and top point finishing positions.
Fans will have the opportunity to win pairs of tickets for the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup race, October 6, at Dover International Speedway along with a four pack of “ride all day with coaster” tickets to the popular Knoebel’s Amusement Park, America’s largest free admission park which features the #1 Wooden Roller Coaster in the world, the Phoenix, all courtesy of WNPV.
Jesse Leiby led six laps of the Modified feature enduring pressure from Eric Biehn and Willman.
Biehn while running a solid second, found himself facing the wrong direction in the second turn with Steve Swinehart, left with nowhere to go becoming involved in the sixth lap caution. On the restart Willman charged into first while Whitmoyer followed through for second to challenge. Leiby, Frank Cozze and Howard made it a five-way battle for the lead.
Cozze, who was right in the thick of things in third, stopped in the fourth turn out of contention on the lap 12 restart. It was still Willman showing the way with the top five composed of Whitmoyer, Howard, Strunk and Craig Von Dohren. Trying to get into a top five position was Brett Kressley.
Willman ran the middle, top and bottom portion of the track in anticipation of keeping Howard behind him. Howard had taken over second on the 15th lap and was running the highest path possible to try to become the new leader.
Right behind Willman and Howard, Von Dohren and Whitmoyer were waiting in anticipation for either one to falter and advance a position.
The top five remained the same bumper-to-bumper until Kressley overtook fifth on the 22nd lap.
Despite the struggle to gain a position the order never changed.
Howard made one last ditch effort to dive underneath Willman coming in for the checkered, but it was useless and Willman earned a crowd-pleasing fourth career Saturday night triumph. Howard was a close second trailed by Howard, Von Dohren and Kressley.
Ron Kline, Steve Swinehart, Jesse Leiby and Justin Grim were the heat winners while the consies went to Clay Butler, returning after his barrel-roll along the homestretch a few weeks ago and Timmy Buckwalter.
Steve Young led seven laps in the Sportsman feature before Tom Miller, while running second, spun in the fourth turn. The lead changed hands on the restart when Leiby shot past Young. Mammana followed through for second at the same time.
Within a few laps Leiby opened up some daylight over the rest of the top five that consisted of Mammana, Brad Brightbill the current point leader; Young and Jesse Landis.
Mammana reeled in Leiby, who was caught behind lap traffic, with two laps to go, but he didn’t have enough time and Leiby went on to victory with Mammana, Brightbill, Young and Landis in tow.
Young, Leiby and Miller won the heats. The consi was won by Brad Grim.
