Daryn Pittman Scores Third Win in Four Starts with Devil’s Bowl Triumph
MESQUITE, TX – April 28, 2018 – Daryn Pittman is on a roll. The Owasso, OK native earned his third win in his last four World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series starts on the opening night of the Texas Outlaw Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Logan Schuchart scored his best finish of the season in second with Jason Johnson completing the podium.
The night started off with a bang with Jason Johnson breaking a 19-year old Devil’s Bowl track record in Qualifying with a lap of 13.306. Daryn Pittman won the Craftsman Club Dash, earning the pole for the 25-lap Feature.
Pittman led the opening circuit, but it was fourth-starting Jason Johnson that brought the crowd to their feet charging from fourth to the lead on the second lap only for it to be negated by a caution for Ryan Robinson. Pittman saw Johnson utilize the cushion and elected the top on the double-file restart. Johnson restarted third with Schuchart alongside Pittman on the front row.
Pittman established a healthy lead as Johnson followed suit around the cushion. With the top of the speedway clearly the preferred line, lapped traffic was stacking up in front of Pittman, allowing the rest of the field to close in on the Kasey Kahne Racing No.9. Just as Johnson was ready to make a bid for the lead on Lap 13, the Yellow Flag flew for Texan Channin Tankersley.
The caution cleared Pittman of traffic and gave him an open track, which was essential given the racing surface. The double-file restart allowed Schuchart to roll by Johnson around the top for the second spot. Pittman would approach traffic one more time in the closing laps, allowing Schuchart and Johnson to close the gap to under a second at the finish. It was Pittman’s 75th career World of Outlaws victory.
“I knew the place to be was going to be on the top, I just didn’t know that it was going to be on Lap 2. We obviously got real lucky there with the caution,” Pittman said in Victory Lane. “This car is a lot of fun to drive right now. It speaks volumes to the progress this Ionomy team has made this season, we have gone from the lowest of lows to this.
Pittman wasn’t the only one fired up with the victory as his crew chief Justin Adams was pumped up to win at the historic facility, “I’ve never won at Devil’s Bowl before. This is bad ass.”
“I got one of my first Outlaw wins here back in 2000. I’ve got a lot of friends and family here and it is even better to see them in Victory Lane,” Pittman added.
When asked about the untimely cautions, Jason Johnson, despite finishing third, was in good spirits, “That’s racing. Devil’s Bowl is one of my favorite tracks and it’s an honor to be able to run up front here with the World of Outlaws.”
Logan Schuchart had his best outing of the 2018 season and was pleased his Shark Racing No.1S all night. “We’ve always had speed here, the driver just needs to his job,” Schuchart said with a smile before referencing the big pay day tomorrow night.
Donny Schatz finished fourth with Brad Sweet completing the top five. Pittman’s car owner Kasey Kahne was strong all night coming home in sixth.

PADUCAH, Ky. (April 27, 2018) Using every inch of banking at the Paducah International Raceway on Friday night, Oklahoma's Matt Covington parked his T&L Foundry No. 95 in Victory Lane in the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com debut at the Western Kentucky oval.
"I had a great time racing here and we had a really good car. This is my kind of track with the high banks and the wall all the way around. I like to get up there and lean on that wall and tonight we just had really good speed. We've had good speed all year. We knew if we just kept doing what we were doing, it would pay off and it is," stated Matt.
With Chick Magnet Motorsports CEO, Josh Hegwood, joining the Covington/Graves Motorsports team in Victory Lane, the native of Knoxville, Iowa was all smiles with checkered flag in hand, "I think Josh has been with me for about five years, but this might be the first time he's actually got the chance to be in Victory Lane to be in the picture with me"
Covington's sixth career win with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, the 25-lap feature began from the third starting spot. Holding the position through the first start, the red flew before the field could complete the lap as race leader, Scott Bogucki, flipped in turns one and two. Scott was unharmed.
Rolling back to the green with Carson Short and Mark Smith now on the front row, the Mach Chassis No. M1 bolted to the point with Matt Covington making it three wide through the first and second turns to grab second from the No 21x. Chasing into traffic, Covington began to diamond the corners of the three-eighths-mile oval. Working the sixth lap, Covington worked past Smith for the point. Exchanging slid jobs with Covington able to answer on each occasion, the No. 95 would eventually start to pull an advantage as traffic became heavier.
Pulling to nearly a straightaway advantage, the race for the second spot heated up with Tony Stewart running down Smith as the pair worked through traffic. Getting to the runner-up spot on Lap 16, the caution flew as the field worked the following lap. Reverting to the last fully completed lap, Covington returned to speed with a pair of lapped cars between himself and Stewart.
With the advantage of clean air, Matt Covington quickly grew his advantage to over a half straightaway at the checkered flag. Tony Stewart held onto second with Mark Smith picking the final podium step. Moving through from 13th, Seth Bergman worked his way to fourth, and with it, took over the top spot in the 2018 series standings by a dozen points. Earning Friday's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night, Wayne Johnson advanced position 10 times to round out the top-five.
Matching Johnson's passing total, Blake Hahn followed the No. 2c to sixth from 16th. Making his first feature start with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Carson Short crossed seventh with Howard Moore eighth from 18th. Tim Crawley and Morgan Turpen completed the top-ten.
With a field of 33 drivers checking in at Paducah International Raceway, the field was split into four Heat Races with Tony Stewart, Johnny Herrera, Mark Smith, and Matt Covington picking up wins. The night's BMRS B-Main went to Mason Daniel. Provisionals were utilized by Travis Rilat and Harli White.
Next stop for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com is Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, May 4 and Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday, May 5. Both are co-sanctioned with The Capital Renegade United Race Club. DARLAND FIRST TO 60 USAC SPRINT WINS WITH BLOOMINGTON SCORE

Bloomington, Indiana......April 27, 2018 - In the history of USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car racing, no driver has earned more victories or started more feature events than has Dave Darland.
On Friday night at Bloomington Speedway, perhaps no driver has ever had a more popular win in the history of the series than has Dave Darland.
On a night when "The People's Champ" became the first to reach 700 starts in the series, he also became the first to hit 60 career wins after leading the final 18 laps of the 30-lap feature to score his first victory in USAC National competition since November of 2016 to end a 40-race winless streak.
"It's just taken me forever," Darland said with a laugh. "Seven-hundred starts and 60 wins. I don't know what happened the other 640 times, but it's been a great career for me. I still love driving racecars and, on nights like this, it's such a great feeling."
The monumental victory is actually the second for Darland in a Goodnight-owned car - the first coming in July of 2010 during "Indiana Sprint Week" at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway. After the two entities paired up last year, the combination has been electric with Darland picking up three fast qualifying times in as many appearances to finish out last year's USAC season. Just last week, Darland and Goodnight reeled off their first victory of the season together in local competition at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Indiana. Yes, they're reunited and it feels so good.
"Things went well for a long time, but the last couple years, we've been struggling to run well and get victories," Darland said. "We've run decent most of the time, but victory lane was a little hard to find. When I began driving (for the Goodnight team) last year, we started out great and it's been great ever since. I've run this car about ten times now and we've had a chance to win all ten of them. It's great to be back with a team that I jell with. This car drives great and I'm glad where I'm at."
Darland began the race from the outside of the front row and, right from the get-go, he and pole starter Chase Stockon were locked in a near dead-heat continuously throughout much of the first half of the event, interrupted only by a Dakota Jackson turn three flip on the third lap of the feature.
On the restart, Darland instantaneously returned to his comfort zone, rim-riding on the ledge while Stockon tethered himself to the bottom. Just as Darland appeared to have the upper hand, the top line seemingly vamoosed for a moment as a re-energized Stockon surged ahead on the bottom to snare the lead by the length of a shoe at the line on lap seven.
As Stockon opened a canyon-wide margin on Darland, the Lincoln, Indiana driver was undeterred, staying true to himself and refusing to wilt and pedal to the bottom. Darland paved his own trail and was going to risk fate, letting his race ride or die on the outstretched arms of the red clay.

"I just decided to stay on top," Darland said firmly. "Everybody's been asking me 'Did you ever consider going to the bottom after getting passed?' I said no, not really. Hell no! But, really, I kind of did. I just knew that the top had potential, but I just had to figure out how to run it better."
"When Chase (Stockon) got around me, I just learned how to run the top harder and that's what I did. I just started running it harder," Darland said. "I figured out where I could hit it and where I had to get away from it, especially down in (turns) one and two where the lip was really tall. You had to be careful not to snag it and throw the front end over the bank. But, down here in (turns) three and four, it was kind of up-on-the-edge where you couldn't go in too hard and go over the edge. Both ends were a little bit different, but both ends had potential up there. So, I just had to figure out what it had and hit it in the right spots at the right time."
By the 13th circuit, Darland's high-wire act had led him right back into the corner of Stockon's right eye as he plucked the lead away by the length of an eyelash at the stripe on the outside. Each lap thereafter, Darland constructed an advantage that was impenetrable - to a half-second, then to a full-second, and, finally, to a crescendo of over a second-and-a-half as he entered lapped traffic with less than five laps to go.
Darland had to be perfect shaving the highline with his Hoosier rubber lap-after-lap, but instead of searching high-low-middle to find the fastest way around, the USAC Triple Crown champ applied Occam's razor to find the solution - stick with your gut go to the front.
Darland's lead ballooned to 1.76 seconds at the checkered flag to defeat Chris Windom, KSE Hard Charger Logan Seavey (from 15th), Chad Boespflug and C.J. Leary.

David Gravel Tames Lightning-Fast Surface at Cotton Bowl for First Win of 2018
PAIGE, TX – April 26, 2018 – After being rained out twice earlier in the year at the facility, but the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series finally completed the event at Cotton Bowl Speedway. David Gravel and the CJB Motorsports No.5 team swept the entire evening en route to picking up his first win of the 2018 season. Brad Sweet and Jason Johnson completed the podium.
David Gravel started off his clean sweep of the program by setting fast time over the field with a lap of 13.832. Gravel went on to win his Heat Race and the Craftsman Club Dash to earn the pole for the 35-lap Feature.
With the amount of rain Cotton Bowl Speedway received over the past week, the track continued to get faster throughout the evening. Gravel’s fastest lap in the Dash was an eye-opening 13.276, nearly three-tenths under the existing track record and .556 faster than his lap in Qualifying, that paced the field. Gravel's fastest lap in the Feature was a 13.598.
An opening lap Red Flag for Clyde Knipp, who slightly rolled over in turn one, reset the field. Gravel led the field down the frontstretch once again and began expanding his lead.
Brad Sweet cut the gap to less than a car-length with seven laps, giving flashbacks to Cotton Bowl fans that attended the World of Outlaws race at the facility in 2016, that saw Sweet steal the victory in thrilling fashion that night. It was not meant to be for Sweet tonight as Gravel powered by two lapped cars to seal his first victory of the season and a clean sweep on the evening.
“This is what this team deserves. I’ve got to thank Barry, Derek, Zach and everyone that worked on this car to make it go fast,” Gravel said. “We’ve been running decently, just not getting into Dashes. Track position was huge tonight. The track was really heavy and got faster all night. Going green-to-checkered was a little tiring,” the Watertown, CT native added.
When asked about Sweet pulling within striking distance, Gravel said, “I heard him. Turn three and four were so tricky tonight. It was a long overdue first win of the year. Hopefully, we can pick up from last year and get going” Gravel, an 18-time winner a year ago, crossed the line 1.453 seconds ahead of Sweet for the 35th win of his career.
Sweet was pleased with his second-place effort, “The lapped cars were so tricky. We had a shot there, but David did a great job getting by those last few lapped cars. We’ll move on to Devil’s Bowl the next two nights and try and pick up a victory.”
Jason Johnson made some daring moves early in the event to move into third and secure the podium finish. The Eunice, LA native acknowledged his previous racing career around this region and how great it is to come back with the World of Outlaws before thanking the fans for coming out on a Thursday evening.
Cory Eliason continued his strong start to the season with a fourth-place finish with Daryn Pittman completing the top-five. Nine-time Series Champion and current points leader Donny Schatz suffered from a rare mechanical issue as his Tony Stewart Racing No.15 visibly battled an ailing front end as he limped to a ninth-place finish. The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to action at its birthplace, Devil’s Bowl Speedway, Friday and Saturday for the Series 40th Anniversary Celebration! STRUNK, SIMMONS & WAGNER SHARE GRAND OPENING VICTORIES ON BRIDGEPORT 3/8TH MILE
"Build it and they will come." Remember that great line from the classic film, Field of Dreams?
Well the Bridgeport Speedway built it and they came to the Grand Opening of the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track at the Bridgeport Speedway!
The Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds, the Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman, the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) and the DA's Auto Body & Repair Rookies each had their first crack at the new racing surface with Jeff Strunk, Ryan Simmons, Eddie Wagner and Danny Buccafusca writing their names in the history books as the first feature winners on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track.
There was a lot of excitement to go around but the Big Block Modifieds had the fans on their feet as the field raced to the checkered flag!
Danny Bouc was the race's early leader in the C&S Equipment No. 6, holding off challenges from Matt Stangle for the first six laps. Stangle took the lead on lap seven but Bouc was back in front the next time around.
Jeff Strunk was challenging for the runner-up spot prior to a lap ten caution. After starting outside row four, Strunk took over second on lap thirteen. Bouc led the way with ten to go with Strunk, Stangle, Ryan Godown and Duane Howard in tow.
As the field headed through turns one and two on lap sixteen, Bouc spun in front of the back. Everyone was able to get by as the field regrouped for the restart with Strunk out in front and Bouc restarting from the rear. Strunk led with pressure from Stangle through a caution on lap nineteen when Billy Pauch Jr. slowed on the backstretch. Stangle was on the throttle on the restart, taking the lead with seven laps to go.
Strunk wasn't giving up as he raced after Stangle and challenged several times in the final laps but each time, Stangle prevailed. Godown was right behind the leaders, just waiting for an opportunity. Stangle and Strunk raced side by side as they took the white flag and the race was on to the checkered. The fans were on their feet as Strunk put the Hyneman No. 126 on the inside of Stangle's Ace Materials No. 6 in turn three. It was anyone's race as the leader's exited turn four with Strunk winning the drag race to the checkered to be the first Modified feature winner on the new track. Stangle finished second followed by Godown, Howard and Rick Laubach.
Former Rookie Champion, Steve Kemery took the lead in the 602 Crate Sportsman feature from Jeremy Harrington following a lap six restart. Kemery ran the outside to take the lead but contact with Harrington between turns three and four sent both front runners spinning and then to the pits for repairs. Ryan Simmons was the race's new leader.
Simmons had his hands full with Brad Roberts until the final lap when Roberts clipped the inside barrier in turn two and spun. That put a very determined Eric Kormann on his bumper for the run to the checkered but Simmons prevailed for his first ever Bridgeport victory on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track. Kormann finished second followed by Joe Brown, Rookie, Danny Buccafusca and Tommy Sheetz, Sr.
Eddie Wagner came away with the win in the MASS Sprint Car feature and became the first driver to win on all three of the Bridgeport tracks. Wagner has a 600 Micro win on the Spirit quarter mile and now winged sprint car wins on both the 5/8th and 3/8th mile speedways.
Rick Stief led the way for the MASS competitors until lapped traffic became a factor in the closing laps. Wagner took the lead on lap eighteen as Mike Haggenbottom was on the move through the top five. Haggenbottom was challenging for second before contact by Tyler Reinhardt sent the cars of Stief, Haggenbottom and Reinhart spinning between turns three and four on the final lap. Wagner took the win over Dave Brown, Larry McVay, Brandon Poff and Logan Diehl.
Earlier in the day, Rockaway, NJ driver, Danny Buccafusca picked up the win in the DA's Auto Body & Repair Rookie Feature - the first of the 2018 and the first feature to be run on the new 3/8th mile track. Buccafusca, who has past experience in Slingshots and 600 Micros took the win over third generation driver, Sammy Martz Jr. making his first ever laps at Bridgeport. Another Slingshot competitor, Seth Spayd finished third followed by Parker Guldin and David Hartman. Buccafusca took the lead from Paige Brown as the two front row starters headed down the backstretch on lap one. Buccafusca never looked back but Martz was closing fast in the final laps.

USAC SPRINT DOUBLEHEADER HITS THE HOOSIER STATE THIS FRIDAY-SATURDAY

After a tumultuous month of inactivity brought upon by Mother Nature, the teams of the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship are champing at the bit to get their season back on track this weekend with a doubleheader of action in southern Indiana, Friday, April 27, at Bloomington Speedway and Saturday, April 28, at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt.
Kevin Thomas, Jr. not only leads the series standings heading into the weekend, he was also the lone driver to win at both Bloomington and Haubstadt a year ago. In fact, the Cullman, Ala. driver is the only expected entrant for this weekend's events who has multiple wins at both venues. Additionally, Thomas was victorious at Bloomington in 2012 for his very first career series win. In 2013, Thomas won a pair of features at Tri-State.
His Dynamics, Inc. team has found a fortune of success over the years at both places, with three wins at Bloomington in 2005 with Tracy Hines, 2008 with Jerry Coons, Jr. and just last year with Chad Boespflug, who outdueled Chris Windom in an incredible, see-saw battle during the final laps. At Tri-State, Dynamics, Inc. has made it to victory lane with Tracy Hines in 2002 and Brady Bacon in 2015.

Reigning series champion Windom is the only other expected driver for this weekend's races besides Thomas to capture victories at both tracks. The Canton, Ill. native nailed down a "W" at Tri-State last Spring and was tops at Bloomington back in 2011.
Tyler Courtney and Clauson Marshall Newman Racing have been a staple of the post-race victory lane photos in the early part of the 2018 USAC season, with two National Sprint Car victories at Ocala in February and a National Midget win in the "Kokomo Grand Prix" at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway a little over a week ago. The Indianapolis, Ind. driver notched his first Bloomington win during "Indiana Midget Week" last June. With Tim Clauson on the wrenches, a No. 7 has made it to Bloomington victory lane twice with Bryan Clauson in 2009 and 2015.
Past Bloomington USAC Sprint winners hoping to redo the deed this Friday night on the quarter-mile of red clay include 2016 Indiana Sprint Week feature winner Brent Beauchamp of Avon, Ind., 2007 and 2013 winner Dave Darland of Lincoln, Ind. as well as Tucson, Arizona's Jerry Coons, Jr. in 2008.
Local hero Kyle Cummins of Princeton, Ind. has won at Tri-State in each of the past two seasons and is always a top-threat at the quarter-mile paperclip in Haubstadt. Chase Stockon of nearby Fort Branch, Ind. picked up the season-opener in Ocala and is a past Haubstadt "Spring Showdown" winner in 2016. Carson Short of Marion, Ill. has been consistently fast everywhere he's been and Tri-State is the home of his lone USAC victory back in 2016. Robert Ballou, the 2015 USAC champ from Rocklin, Calif. snared the honors at Tri-State during the summer of 2014.
At Bloomington, cars hit the track at 6:30pm (Eastern). Adult general admission tickets are $20, children 12 and under are FREE and pit passes are $30. If you can't make it to the track in person, watch LIVE flag-to-flag coverage on www.SpeedShiftTV.com/.
At Tri-State, pits open at 3:30pm (Central) while the grandstands open at 4:30pm. Cars hit the track at 6pm. Adult tickets are $25, students age 13-18 are $20 and children 12 and under are FREE!
