By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
Accord, NY- On a hot, muggy summer evening with quick storms hitting areas south of the track, the Accord Speedway somehow remained unscathed and reeled off an outstanding racing card for another solid crowd on hand that witnessed the excellent six division racing card. The loyal Accord racing fans were offered the opportunity to go trackside and meet and greet with the talented driving roster of the speedway on camera and autograph night presented by United Pump and Tank located in Wallkill, New York.(www.unitedpumpandtank.com). Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer had the speedway grounds in its usual pristine condition and the outstanding track work prep of Gary Palmer presented the drivers with another fabulous, tacky and very racy track surface that had the drivers in all divisions talking about it all night long through the interview sessions. A & M Hardware presented the Checkered Flag Bonus. Even with the 45 minute delay for the Camera and Autograph session, the racing was completed before 11 PM.
The final outcome of the great evening of racing action found the "DC Express" Danny Creeden seeking the outer reaches of the speedway as "he drove it where they weren't" to claim his second win of the season at Accord Speedway in the United Pump and Tank Modifieds. "The Little Rock" Matt Shultz raced to his first ever career win at Accord in the Arkel Motors Sportsman headliner. "The Jersey Force" Anthony Recchio was spot on in recording his fourth win of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman finale. Travis Brockner shook off his recent back luck at the speedway and proceeded to wire the field for his second win of the season in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature run. "The Cold Spring Kid" Jake Mason made it six wins for the season in the Want AD Digest Junior Slingshot feature. Jeremy "The Captain" Quick found the topside to be the quick side as he captured his initial win in 2017 in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car main event.
Joe Judge hammered down at the start of the United Pump and Tank Modified thirty lap main event and led the first dew laps while defending the flanks against Brian Malcolm and Kyle VanDuser. While Malcolm and VanDuser locked up in a dual, Judge stepped away from the field in a hurry. Earning some quality real estate at the top of the raceway, Creeden looked low then slid to the top of raceway as he found the fast seam and coming out of turn four slipped past both Malcolm and VanDuser to move into the runner-up slot. Judge had forged a huge lead, but Creeden was eating up the real estate quickly. As the leaders moved into slower traffic, Creeden stayed on top with Judge one lane lower and Creeden emerged as the leader on lap twelve. . before yielding to who stayed out front through lap five. Danny Creeden built up a commanding lead as he held the hot hand through the remainder of the event to claim win number at Accord for the 2017 racing season. Brad Rothaupt used some good moves off of the baseline to race into a runner-up finish with Danny Tyler coming from ninth starting place to finish third. Joe Judge and the returning Jerry Higbie completed the top five with Higbie coming from 14th starting position. Brian Malcolm headed up the second five with Richard Smith, Ed Dachenhausen, Jimmy Wells and Scott Ferrier following.
The WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman headliner found Jeff Higham leading the way for the first four laps of the event. After a mad scramble, a restart found John Miller taking over the lead for one lap before Anthony Recchio found the hot spot on the raceway to take over the point. Recchio would lead the remaining laps to race to his fourth win of the season in the division. Kevin Stevens raced to a solid runner-up finish with Higham nailing down third, Jared Miller fourth and John Miller completing the top five. Fred Smith headed up the second five with Hunter Lapp, Vinny Visconti, newcomer John Brown and Keith Johannessen finishing up the top ten.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman feature event found Matt Shultz grabbing up the early lead. Shultz had himself a fast hot rod but equally fast was Corey Cormier. With some restarts needed for some scrambles, the Shultz/Cormier battle was shaping up as a barn burner as Cormier was able to stick the nose of his race car under Shultz but could not make the winning pass as Shultz was running a near perfect race. The two remained close throughout the remainder of the event but it would be Shultz earning his first ever Accord Speedway over Cormier in another excellent Sportsman headliner. Cole Hentschel was third after stating ninth and Kyle Rohner made an exceptional run through the entire field to land in fourth place. Rich Ricci III completed the top five. The second five found Nick Johnson, the returning Danny Cross, Dave Demorest, Rafael Carson and Ralph Ronk following.
The WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint feature had last week's winner Larry McVay leading the first three laps until a mad skirmish found Brett Graham getting into McVay with Graham getting upside down and he and McVay both headed to the pits with damages. On the restart Jeremy Quick hustled to the point and took command of the event and he would lead the remaining laps to claim his first Accord Speedway win in some time. Eric Jennings, Tom Radivoy, Bob Tersillo, Heidi Hedin and Larry Ricci completed the field.
The Want AD Digest Junior Slingshot feature found Jake Mason returning to action and the young man dominated the action from start to finish to claim his sixth win of the season. Brock Pinkerous was second with newcomer Garrett Poland in third place.
The Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature found Travis Brockner jumping out front at the start of the event and it was just what he needed as he had to fight off the challenges of a very tough customer in Ray Tarantino to make his way to the WRWD Victory Lane. The win was number two for the season for Brockner. Tarantino was second in a strong run followed by Emerson Cargain Jr in third, John Hechinger fourth and Steve Williams fifth. Heading up the second five were the returning Livy Johnson, Craig Cuneo, Chris Kanuk, John Drake and James Goetchius.
GEMSTONES:
Promoter Gary Palmer offered up a great race track for the drivers as all four speed channels were utilized throughout the course of the evening and the drivers spoke highly of the track preparation.
Steve Lowitt and his United Pump and Tank group was the headline sponsor for the evening and enjoyed their time with the trackside presentations during camera and autograph night.
Heat races were run off quickly and Sportsman heat wins went to Matt Shultz, Tyler Johnston and Nick Plumstead. John Miller and Michael Corbin were victorious in the Rookie Sportsman qualifiers. Modified heats were claimed by Brad Rothaupt, Brian Malcolm and Ken Ferrier. Ray Tarantino and Emerson Cargain Jr claimed wins in the Pure Stock division heats. The Junior Slingshot heat was claimed by Jake Mason. Eric Jennings and Larry McVay captured the Sprint car heats.
New cars and drivers continue to add to the luster of the evening as the Sportsman ranks saw the addition of "Dynamite" Danny Cross and "The Tokyo Drift" Dana Carey. In the new Sprint Car Division, Larry Drake was a new addition to the field. John Brown was a new edition to the Rookie Sportsman ranks. Garrett Poland made his first start in the Junior Slingshots.
"Jumpin" John McGill filled in for the vacationing Tim Adams with the victory
lane interviews and did his usual top-flight job.
The camera and autograph session went off without a hitch as the grandstands emptied out for the fans to have a chat or get an autograph or two from their favorite drivers. Announcer Steve Pados interviewed as many drivers as time was allotted and tried to make sure each division was covered.

Logan Schuchart Takes a Bite Out of Schatz for Win at Ohsweken
Schuchart Earns First Career Victory in Canada
OHSWEKEN, ON, CAN - July 25, 2017 - Logan Schuchart hunted down Donny Schatz in heavy lapped traffic and then dominated the second half of the Six Nations Showdown at Ohsweken Speedway for his fourth World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series win of 2017 on Tuesday night.
The victory was a much-needed confidence boost for Schuchart and his Shark Racing team who had struggled of late. The slick Ohsweken surface was exactly to the liking of the Hanover, Pa. native in the Outlaws only visit to Canada this season.
"I love these type of racetracks, not just because we ran well on it tonight. I love slick racetracks," Schuchart said in Victory Lane. "I love when you have to drive the car straight and smooth. I feel like it makes it fun. Obviously if you're not running good it's not fun, but if you can glide around the racetrack, be smooth and have forward drive, it's fun."
Schuchart had all of those ingredients at Ohsweken. While Schatz grabbed an early lead from the pole and drove away from the majority of the field, Schuchart was the only driver able to keep pace. The top duo wandered into heavy lapped traffic by lap nine and as Schatz was forced to give up his preferred line on the bottom to move past a slower car, Schuchart capitalized when he found room on the bottom of turn two and down the backstretch to take the lead.
"I was having trouble catching Donny when we were in an open run," Schuchart admitted. "It wasn't until we got to lapped traffic, I felt like, that some lapped cars made him go where he didn't want to. I could just move around a little bit more than he could and go through the middle. When some lapped cars took his line away, I just felt like I was able to get the forward drive off the corners to get by him."
One lap after Schuchart took the lead, the caution flag waved for Sheldon Haudenschild, who suffered a flat right-rear tire. He made the repairs in the work area and returned to the rear of the field. Schuchart held the point on the lap nine restart while Greg Wilson and Kyle Larson battled tooth and nail for the third spot.
Schuchart led the top-five into traffic again on lap 16 of the 30-lap main event, but was able to run the bottom the lane the whole time to continue pulling away from Schatz. His advantage with 10 laps to go was 2.6 seconds but grew each lap until he achieved the eventual 5.984-second margin of victory.
Schatz was openly disappointed he was not able to capitalize on his pole starting position to claim his 16th win of the season. His runner-up finish was his 40th top-five finish of the season.
"We got beat," Schatz stated bluntly. "Logan was really good. He could go all over. Obviously, we got to traffic and you have to move around. We did that a little bit and he found the better groove. Those guys rolled pretty good and I couldn't stay down there very well. I had to roll the middle and do what I could. These guys did a great job, Logan was just that good tonight."
Schuchart was ecstatic to score his fourth Outlaw win of the season and to beat the current Series point leader to achieve the feat.
"Anytime you can beat Donny Schatz on any type of racetrack, but especially a slick racetrack, it's saying something," Schuchart said. "We've had a car for a while that's given us some trouble and this is the first night on this new XXX (chassis) and it was hooked up on this slick surface. I felt like it was just gliding around the racetrack and I was just guiding it."
Wilson rounded out the podium finishers after holding off Kyle Larson in the second half of the race. It was Wilson's fifth top-five finish of the season on a surface he raved about in his post-race interview.
"We've been struggling pretty bad lately, so I can't thank the folks at Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics, DNC Hydraulics, Gear Alloy and Weikel Sportswear for staying with us," Wilson said. "This is always an amazing show. (Track Owner) Glenn (Styres) and the whole crew gave us an excellent racetrack. It's fun. I wish some other tracks in the country would take a look at this. I realize we're not going 100mph, but there's racing all over the racetrack and that's what it's about."
Larson settled for a fourth-place finish and 19-year-old Dylan Westbrook, who was making his first career Outlaw start in his first night with a 410ci motor, rounded out the top-five after starting 16th. Jacob Allen was the KSE Hard Charger award winner after he advanced 13 positions from 24th to 11th.
Brad Sweet was the night's fast qualifier with a lap of 12.280 seconds. Sweet, Schuchart, Larson and Wilson all won heat races in some of the most thrilling qualifying action all season. Schatz won the Craftsman Club Dash from the pole, but had to take the lead back from Brent Marks midway through the race to gain the pole. Kraig Kinser came out on top of a three-car battle for the lead with Jared Zimbardi and Steve Lyons to win the Last Chance Showdown.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series now has two days off before returning to competition for the Battle of Michigan at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, MI on Friday, July 28. The Outlaws will see the track's new 3/8-mile configuration for the first time. For additional event information, including advanced reserved ticket purchases, visit www.slspromotions.com.

Smoke earns I-79 Summer Shootout finale victory at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway
IMPERIAL, PA (July 24, 2017) - For the first time since February 11, 2012, and for the second time during his famed career, “Smoke” Tony Stewart is an Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions main event winner, this time taming “Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile” at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway to help end the 2017 edition of the I-79 Summer Shootout.
Stewart, who started third on the feature grid, took command officially during a lap 23 restart and never looked back, ultimately crossing under the final checkers nearly three seconds ahead of Lemoore, California’s Carson Macedo, and Dalton, Ohio's Lee Jacobs. Fortunately for Stewart, lapped traffic also factored in as an advantage, as race leader Tim Shaffer would become tangled with a lapped car, surrendering the point position to the former NASCAR Cup Series champion.
“Man, this is a fun race track; so wide and so racey,” Tony Stewart said in victory lane, pilot of the Rush Truck Centers/Ford Performance/Arctic Cat/No. 14. “To be rim-riding like that, a foot off the wall, is pretty intense around here. I watched Christopher Bell race from 20th to second at the Kings Royal, so I figured it was my turn to do something special.”
Carson Macedo and Tim Shaffer led the field to green on Monday night at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Shaffer earned the initial advantage, soon flanked by Macedo, Danny Holtgraver, Chad Kemenah, and Tony Stewart. Shaffer opened his advantage instantly, climbing to a near-three second lead before the main event’s first caution appeared on lap six.
Green flag conditions resumed with Tim Shaffer returning to the top spot, soon followed by Tony Stewart, who made a big jump to second after passing two cars on the restart. Traffic came into play for the first time on lap 11 allowing Stewart to reel in Shaffer. Soon joined by Holtgraver, the top three cars raced nose-to-tail and side-by-side through traffic for three circuits until caution flags reappeared on lap 14, this time for Danny Holtgraver. The nearby Pittsburgh native made incidental contact with Tony Stewart while attempting a slide job for the second position. Holtgraver did not return.
“By the time I realized I wasn't going to be able to get back around Danny [Holtgraver], I had already checked up on the brakes and turned down,” Stewart explained. “I clipped him with my front bumper. That was about the only mistake I really made. You don't want to see things end like that. We were going to put on one heck of a race.”
Once again, green flag conditions returned with Shaffer setting the pace, now followed by Tony Stewart and Carson Macedo. By lap 20, traffic returned in full force allowing Stewart to track down Shaffer once again. A two car battle soon commenced into a three car battle as Chad Kemenah entered the picture, now tracking down the top pair after taking control of the third position on lap 21.
Unfortunately for Tim Shaffer, his tenure at the top of the running order would come to an end eight laps sooner than intended. Contact with a lapped car while attempting to run away from Tony Stewart in traffic forced an early retirement for the former Arctic Cat All Star champion, ultimately surrendering the top spot to the eventual winner on lap 23. “Smoke” cruised on to score the $5,000 victory; a first ever Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway feat for the Columbus, Indiana, native. Carson Macedo chased Stewart to the line, followed by Lee Jacobs, Chad Kemenah and Ryan Smith.
“When I saw Lee Jacobs running the bottom, at that point I wasn't sure where I needed to be,” Stewart explained. “Rico Abreu is here with me tonight and I had him trying to help me out, but he wasn't sure where I needed to be. I figured if I got a good restart, I would just get to the top and rip eight good laps. That's what we did.”
Macedo and Jacobs each raced by Chad Kemenah during the final circuits to secure the final podium positions. Macedo was the evening’s pole sitter, dropping as far back as fourth in the running order before finally charging back second on lap 25.
Jacobs, who started eighth on the feature grid, battled within the top-five during most of the 30-lap feature program, making a bid for a podium position as early as lap 15.
Closing out the month of July, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their 2017 campaign with a three day trip to The Empire State, set to invade three different dirt ovals during three straight days from July 28-30, chasing a combined winner’s share equaling $22,000. “America’s Series” will visit Outlaw Speedway, Orange County Fair Speedway and Lebanon Valley Speedway during their New York swing, awarding $5,000, $10,000 and $7,000, respectively.
Outlaw Speedway will open pit gates and main gates at 3:00pm on Friday, July 28. Hot laps will hit the speedway at 6:00pm, followed by racing at 7:00pm. Those seeking additional news and notes regarding ticket pricing and facility accommodations should visit Outlaw Speedway live on the Web at www.outlawspeedwayllc.com.
Orange County Fair Speedway will open pit gates and drive-in gates beginning at 3:00pm, followed by main gates at 4:00pm. Racing will hit the 5/8-mile speed plant at 6:30pm, sharp. More information can be found online at www.orangecountyfairspeedway.net.

About the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions:
All Star Enterprises, LLC, wholly owned by Tony Stewart, d/b/a the All Star Circuit of Champions, is a winged sprint car series. The All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series is one of the oldest traveling 410 sprint car organizations and is a staple of grassroots, open-wheel racing. Formed in 1970 by Bud Miller, the series has largely been considered the first 'outlaw' Sprint Car organization of the modern era. After a 10 year stint as owner of the All Stars, Miller passed control of the series to Bert Emick in 1980; a reign that would continue through 2002. Guy Webb then purchased the series from Emick in the summer of 2002 and served as the series President for the next 12 years. Motorsports entrepreneur Tony Stewart agreed to terms with Guy Webb to become the sole owner of the original winged sprint car tour in January of 2015.

BRYANT DAVIS AND RICK STIEF SPLIT MID-ATLANTIC SPRINT SERIES DOUBLE FEATURES AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
BRIDGPORT, NJ
By ERIKA PALMAI WAGNER
After a wild night of double-features at South Jersey’s Bridgeport Speedway, the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series had a first-time feature winner and a first repeat victor of the 2017 season in victory lane this past Friday night.
Twenty-nine-year-old Bryant Davis of Norwood, PA scored his first career 305 Sprint Car win in the June 17th make-up feature, while Rick Stief of Garnet Valley, PA, who finished second to Davis in the first event, visited victory lane for the second time this season for his efforts in the nightcap A-Main event, making him the first repeat winner of 2017.
Davis, who started on the pole next to Jeff Geiges, was rightfully thrilled while celebrating with his father, Bruce, in victory lane after his win saying post-race “we were so frustrated with this car before this feature, my dad almost stuck a ‘for sale’ sign to her with a $500 price tag on it. This couldn’t have come at a better time for us, and I’m just so happy that we finally got this win!”
Shooting out to the lead when the initial green flag dropped, Davis kept his Bruce’s Auto Body #15B out front for the entire race, even after multiple caution flags came out, menacing his first attempt to victory lane. Third place starter Rick Stief, who always poses as a threat especially at Bridgeport Speedway, quickly moved into the runner up spot and was continuing his trek to the front, utilizing all areas of the speedway.

“I was nervous on those restarts because I knew Rick was there the whole time, and we set the car up for a dry track, hoping it was going to be that way, and it’s was, so that worked out to our advantage. I just had to make sure I hit my marks, kept the car straight, and focused on what I needed to do to be fast enough so Rick couldn’t catch us,” Davis explained.
At one point, after a restart, Davis and Stief ran side by side for a nail-biting two laps, battling hard for the lead, but it was Davis who would come out on top using the bottom line after Stief was running on his usually preferred high side.
“I knew he was there, and I was just hoping that he didn’t have enough with him being on the outside, and he didn’t! We had a little bit more tonight, and I was able to keep the car nice and low and it worked out good,” Bryant said.
“It was a good race. I’m so happy to see those guys finally get a win, they put their heart and soul into this. I know earlier tonight, Bruce was pretty disappointed, but now they got themselves a win so this is pretty awesome!” runner up Rick Stief said.
Crossing the finish line behind Davis and Stief was Dave Brown, Eddie Wagner and Tim Tanner Jr.
The second 20 lap event saw Tim Tanner Jr. and Rick Stief square off at the start, each with intentions of earning their second win of the season. Tanner would hold on the top spot heading into the first turn, with Stief, last week’s feature winner Mark Bitner, rookie Austin Bishop and Tom Carberry maintaining positions in the top five.
After a lap two restart, there was a handful of battles brewing all throughout the top six running cars, with the battle for the lead between Tanner and Stief heating up and being the one most kept their eyes on. Stief once again tried working the outside groove to get around the leader, but Tanner held onto the top spot, sliding up and stealing the 9s’ momentum each time they exited the wide corners of the 5/8-mile superspeedway.
“We had the car dialed in really good, I kept trying to stick it up there on the outside, but I think Tim might have realized we were there, and if I didn’t take my time, then we both would have ended up crashing,” Stief explained. “So I just kept abiding my time, and I had a few really good runs there and finally, I just didn’t let off and we were able to take the lead”.
It wasn’t until lap seven when Stief finally completed the pass for first place, gaining over a straightaway gap between him and the rest of the cars. Lap traffic didn’t pose a threat to the lightning fast K&S Seal Coating Sprinter and with a 5.482 seconds lead on the rest of the field, the checkered flags waved and it would be Stief, Tanner, Bishop, Bitner, and Wagner completing the top five.

“I have to thank my crew man, Chas. Without him, instead of standing here in victory lane tonight, I would be sitting at home looking at this car in the garage. I also want to thank Bruce Davis #2, he comes over and helps me out at the shop to get everything ready, my buddy Greg and his nephew from K&S Seal Coating, all of my sponsors, Bridgeport Speedway for having us tonight, and for the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series for doing a great job with this program this year. I think they have all done a very good job with running this great series”.
Twenty-two cars took part in Friday’s event, with Middletown, New York’s Tyler Jashembowski making the three-and-a-half-hour tow to run at Bridgeport Speedway with the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series. Jashembowski started eleventh in the second feature and brought home a tenth place finish. Three heat races were completed, with Austin Bishop, Rick Stief, and Tim Tanner Jr. taking the victories as well as $50 cash courtesy of heat race sponsors Competition Suspension Inc, Freiberger Excavating and Professional Design Services.
Samantha Lieberman and Eddie Wagner collected the $25 Bruce's Auto Body award for advancing the most positions in the first and second features, and and Stefanie Carberry took home $25 for the worst pill draw, courtesy of Professional Design Services. Eddie Wagner also took home the Thayer Performance “Burning Rubber” Hard Charger award which is a brand new Hoosier Racing Tire. Mark Bitner and Rick Steif were the recipients of the $25 Bitner Automotive “Lightning Fast Time of the Night” award in the first and second features. Other contingencies handed out on Friday were a $25 gift certificate to John Webster courtesy of Todd's Performance, a $25 DMI gift certificate to Craig Pellegrini and 5 gallons of FREE fuel to the feature winners Bryant Davis and Rick Stief provided by Kelly Racing Fuels.
