GETTING AFTER IT: Sheldon Haudenschild Gets Redemption At Lincoln Speedway
Consistency pays off for Haudenschild and Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing with first win of 2020
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA – July 23, 2020 – When Sheldon Haudenschild pulled his NOS Energy Drink #17 car into Victory Lane at Lincoln Speedway Thursday night, he got more than a trophy and shower of confetti. He got redemption.
The Wooster, OH driver missed transferring to the Feature at Lincoln in 2019. This year, he entered the Gettysburg Clash presented by Drydene on a streak of 16 top-10s in a row – nine of them being top-five finishes – and carried that momentum to his first World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win of 2020 and first at Lincoln Speedway.
“It definitely feels good, man,” Haudenschild said about the redeeming win. “We were good all night. It definitely feels good to get a win for my team. It’s kind of settled the pain to just be really consistent and gaining points. That’s been a positive. Definitely want to win. These (Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing) guys deserve to win. That’s what we want to do.”
His strong run started with a second-place finish in his Drydene Heat Race and then a win in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, which he won by 2.4 seconds.
However, Jacob Allen looked to put an end to Haudenschild’s hunt for the win by charging from third to the lead on the first lap of the 35-lap Feature.
Allen, of Hanover, PA – just minutes away from the speedway – looked poised to claim his first career win in the early stage of the race. He gapped Haudenschild by over a second in the opening laps before catching traffic on Lap 7.
Haudenschild closed in, but Allen was able to keep his Drydene #1A ahead of the NOS Energy Drink car, even while darting high and low to maneuver around the slower cars. Allen ran the top and Haudenschild couldn’t find the grip to pass him low. However, Allen switched to the bottom while racing through traffic, giving Haudenschild his preferred top lane.
On Lap 14, Haudenschild flipped the switch and rocketed around the outside of Allen through Turns 3 and 4 to officially take the lead on Lap 15. There was then nothing Allen could do. Haudenschild ripped around the high side of the track like a man desperately trying to lose the hoard of hungry drivers behind him. Although, in clean air, the closest car to him was at least three seconds behind.
Cautions eliminated his massive lead twice, but even on a green-white-checkered finish, Haudenschild was still able to gap the field by a second on the restart.
“You never know where these guys are at,” Haudenschild said. “You kind of have to race like they’re on you the whole time.”
Allen was the one left to fend off the hoard of drivers behind him. First came David Gravel, who was unable to make the pass. And then came his Shark Racing teammate Logan Schuchart. The two Drydene sponsored cars swapped slide jobs each corner for a lap and a half before Schuchart got the upper hand and took second.
While Allen had to settle for a third-place finish, after leading the first 14 laps, he was still energized about his performance.
“It was fun,” Allen said. “I feel really good. I know I haven’t won an Outlaw race, but this year I feel so good physically and mentally… Sheldon rips. Logan rips. I gave it all I had. The wins are going to come.”
The podium finish is his first since earning a third-place finish at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in April of 2019. It’s also his third top-five finish this year, besting his performance last year where he only got two top-fives.
Logan Schuchart's runner-up finish at Lincoln Speedway – also his home track – has helped him further cut into the championship points gap. He’s now 20 points behind points leader Donny Schatz and 14 points behind Brad Sweet, who is in second.
“I remember racing here locally, seven, eight years ago, and it’s been a struggle to get here. A long journey but we’re gaining on it,” Schuchart said about the Shark Racing team. “It’s nice to get a podium finish.”
After winning at Lernerville Speedway on Tuesday night, Schatz, the 10-time Series champion from Fargo, ND finished seventh at Lincoln and Sweet, the reigning champion, of Grass Valley, CA, finished eighth. Schatz now holds a six-point lead over Sweet.
Carson Macedo, who finished fifth, is still fourth in points – 62 points behind Schatz – and Haudenschild is fifth in points, only four points behind Macedo now.
With the consistency Haudenschild and his team have shown this year, he said he’s confident they’ll pick up more trophies and shower in more confetti.
“I keep telling these guys, ‘We’ll be consistent and win races,’” Haudenschild said. “It’s hard to tell your guys that and stay motivated with not winning a race until late July but we keep working… I have one of the best teams out there. No doubt.”

MONEY’S WORTH: Donny Schatz Steals Silver Cup Win In Thrilling Fashion
The Tony Stewart Racing driver reclaims the points lead with his third win of 2020
SARVER, PA – July 21, 2020 – Donny Schatz left Lernerville Speedway in September with frustration and a points gap he was unable to make up in time to deny Brad Sweet the 2019 title.
Ten months later, the 10-time Series champion left the Sarver, PA track Tuesday night with a trophy, a big check and the points lead over Sweet.
Redemption best describes the outcome, but astonishing, thrilling and spectacular defines his path to it.
Coming to the white flag, Schatz was running third behind Kyle Larson in second and Sweet in the lead. Five seconds later, he was the leader. A charge around the outside of Larson off Turn 4 and a slide job underneath Sweet going into Turn 1 propelled Schatz to his seventh Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup victory – his third win of 2020 – and the $25,000 top prize.
“It’s awesome to win the Silver Cup,” said Schatz, of Fargo, ND, in Victory Lane. “Third win of the year. Normally we’d like to have more, but we’re not going to get greedy. We’re going to keep racing the way we are and keep going.”
Schatz, Sweet and Larson positioned themselves for a good run early on by winning their Drydene Heat Races. However, Sweet put himself in the best position for the 40-lap Feature by winning the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash and claiming the pole.
Sweet led the first six laps before Schatz, from sixth, ran him down and took the lead in Turn 1. Like a rehearsed dance move, the two slid side by side in unison through Turns 3 &4 with Schatz up high and Sweet low. Schatz had the better momentum off the corner and charge ahead of Sweet to run away with the lead.
While Schatz held command out front for the next 20 laps, Sweet found grip around the bottom and closed on the Advance Auto Parts #15 with 10 laps to go. Once he was close enough to see Schatz wheeling his Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing ride, the two never left each other’s sight.
Sweet reclaimed the lead on Lap 28 and attempted to pull away from Schatz. He was unsuccessful as four laps later Schatz torpedoed his car underneath the NAPA Auto Parts #49 going into Turn 3. The two then drag raced side by side to the line with Schatz officially leading Lap 33. However, Sweet charged back ahead the next corner.
Their fierce racing brought Kyle Larson into the picture. Larson had been struggling on restarts, losing a spot or two each time. It wasn’t until he was able to run consecutive green flag laps that his Finley Farms #57 began to pick off cars and run down the leaders. He passed Schatz for second with four laps to go and began his hunt for Sweet.
The three titans of the Sprint Car world were a car length apart from each other with two laps to go, leaving no certainty of who would leave the victor. Schatz, the furthest back, was at his time limit to make a move for the win and wasted no seconds to perfect his final charge at victory.
He ripped the top of Turns 3 and 4 to power around the outside of Larson coming to the white flag and then carried that momentum into a slide job underneath Sweet going into Turn 1 to reclaim the lead for the final time.
“It’s fun to race like that,” Schatz said. “Those guys are good. That’s what you guys pay to see. My crew did a great job. I think what won us that race is figuring out how to run the racetrack early in the race. I got hanging there at the end and had to move around. I got to traffic, and I wasn’t good on the bottom. The 49 could get down there. The 57 could go there. But that’s what ultimately won us the race. Those guys were choking down around there and we could carry speed through (Turns) three and four.”
Larson had his own last lap charge, diving underneath Sweet for second in Turn 4 and closed to Schatz’s bumper at the finish line. His last four finishes with the Series now include three wins and a runner-up finish.
“It was an exciting race there,” said Larson, of Elk Grove, CA. “The track changed a ton. It was hard to keep up with it… It was a fun race. Fun to have the three of us battling for the win there coming down late. Just came up a little bit short.”
While Sweet had to settle for a third-place finish, it marked the end to his bad luck streak of three DNFs in a row.
“Probably should have protected,” said Sweet, of Grass Valley, CA. “I don’t know if I would have still held them off. I kind of felt like I was hanging on a little the last few laps there. Just couldn’t quite get the momentum built back up.”
Along with the top-three, Jason Sides had an impressive night. After starting 21st and having to visit the work area twice, he worked his way up to a seventh-place finished and earned the KSE Racing Hard Charger award for the night.
With his win at Lernerville, Schatz is now only three wins away from a milestone 300 career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series wins and has reclaimed the points lead for the first time since he won the season opening race at Volusia Speedway Park. He currently holds a four-point lead over Sweet in second and a 30-point lead over third-place Logan Schuchart, who finished ninth.
This time, he's leaving Lernerville with a smile.

Kyle Larson caps Port Royal Speedway visit with Bob Weikert Memorial finale win; Weekend sweep worth $25,000
PORT ROYAL, Pa. (July 19, 2020) - Officially bumping his 2020 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 win total into the double digits, Elk Grove, California’s Kyle Larson did almost the impossible on Sunday night at Port Royal Speedway and conquered not only the All Stars and Pennsylvania Posse, but also a stout contingent of full-time World of Outlaws competitors, solidifying his Bob Weikert Memorial sweep. The Sunday night triumph not only awarded a $10,000 top prize, but it also awarded a $5,000 bonus; an extra for earning the overall Bob Weikert Memorial championship.
Larson is undefeated in his last five All Star Circuit of Champions tries, now with ten total victories in 16 Series starts.
“My car was really good again tonight. Hats off to Paul Silva and everyone else that helps make this all possible,” Kyle Larson said in victory lane, driver of the Paul Silva-owned/Finley Farms/Tarlton and Sons/Durst/Lucas Oil/Priority Aviation/No. 57 sprint car. “We had a string of races where we just missed getting the wins and got beat late. It was starting to stress me out, to be honest, but now we’re winning again. Hopefully we can keep it up, especially with some bigger races coming up.”
Starting sixth on the 30-lap grid by virtue of a top-ten redraw, Larson worked his way forward in a hurry, climbing his way to fourth by lap two before driving his way to third just two circuits later. With momentum a clear benefactor, the 2020 PA Sprint Speedweek champion caught the top-two by lap nine, flirting with the outer edge to reel-in two-time All Star champion and current Series point leader, Aaron Reutzel, and race leader, Carson Macedo.
By the completion of lap 10, Larson was the new man in charge, driving by Reutzel and Macedo in the same corner before beating the pair in the drag race back to the flagstand. Larson actually attempted the two-for-one move in turns one and two, but the pair denied his attempt, leaving the door open for another try in turns three and four.
Despite a seemingly effortless charge to the front, Larson was far from in the clear, as Reutzel kept pace with the No. 57, especially after a run-in with slower traffic beginning on lap 16. Lapped traffic only intensified and became an obvious problem by lap 22, allowing Reutzel to close-in and show his nose. A saving grace, so to speak, caution flags would wave for the second time on lap 23 negating any potential move by Reutzel in traffic.
Two final cautions, one on lap 25, an eventual fuel stop, and another on lap 28, would keep Larson in clean air the remaining distance. Even Lance Dewease, a 113-time winner at the Port Royal ‘Speed Palace’ who moved into second just after the restart on lap 23, proved to be no threat to ‘Yung Money.’
“I was honestly a little worried the whole race,” Larson continued. “Reutzel was running really hard the first ten laps, but I felt like I was really good behind him, especially getting through turns three and four. I wasn’t sure how close he would be to me once I got out front, but I felt like I hit my marks good enough that he wouldn’t be able to get back by me. Then when Lance (Dewease) got behind me, I figured he was running a completely different line than I was. I knew if I could just keep my line and not hit the curb too hard, and as long as I didn’t see his nose, I would be ok.”
Lance Dewease held on to finish second, followed by Anthony Macri, Danny Dietrich and Jacob Allen. Aaron Reutzel was forced to retire early due to suspension damage.

The Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will enjoy a weekend away from competition before returning to the road on Thursday, July 30, with a visit to Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wisconsin. The second-ever Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race will be the main attraction awarding a hefty $26,000 payday. The Plymouth visit will also activate a four-race sweep for the traveling All Stars which will continue with appearances at 34 Raceway, Knoxville Raceway and Huset’s Speedway, respectively.

Kyle Larson continues All Star winning streak with Bob Weikert Memorial opening night win at Port Royal Speedway
PORT ROYAL, Pa. (July 18, 2020) - Kyle Larson’s weekend in the Keystone State has been prosperous, to say the least, first claiming the Tommy Hinnershitz Classic at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, July 17, then topping that prestigious open wheel triumph with a $10,000 victory during night one of Port Royal Speedway’s annual Bob Weikert Memorial featuring the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1.
Larson, who now owns a Series-leading nine All Star Circuit of Champions victories in 2020, started seventh on the Bob Weikert Memorial grid and rallied in a hurry, climbing his way to third just after a single-file restart with only ten laps checked off the counter, then taking second from former track champion, Logan Wagner, at the midpoint of the 30-lap program. At the time, Brent Marks was in charge of the top spot, using his outside-front row starting spot to garner the lead during the initial start.
With traffic acting as a moving roadblock, Larson was able to track down the leader by lap 17, racing to the back bumper of the CJB Motorsports entry before challenging Marks for the top spot two circuits later. An eventual drag race to the flagstand ended in Marks’ favor.
Beat by a nose at the line, Larson redeemed himself the following circuit and made the next move count, eventually slingshotting around Marks at the exit of turn four, narrowly squeezing by the former Outlaw and a lapped car while navigating the very topside of the speedway. The bold move was the winning move for the Elk Grove, California-native, gradually escaping to a lengthy advantage before the final checkers made their appearance.
The All Star victory was Larson’s fourth in four consecutive tries.
“It’s definitely an honor to win this race. Over the last few weeks, I’ve had a lot of people compare this run that we’re on to Doug Wolfgang. I never got the chance to watch him race, but I knew he was a legend. To read about all of his wins, and the places that he won at, is pretty unbelievable,” Kyle Larson said in victory lane, driver of the Paul Silva-owned/Finley Farms/Tarlton and Sons/Durst/Lucas Oil/Glenn Styres Racing/Priority Aviation/No. 57 sprint car. “Port Royal is starting to become one of my favorite tracks. And the atmosphere here is right up there with the Knoxville Nationals. We still have one more night to go, so hopefully we can park back up here in victory lane.”
Brent Marks held on to finish second at Port Royal Speedway, followed by Anthony Macri, Logan Wagner and Lance Dewease.
“My car was really, really good,” Larson continued. “I saw Brent (Marks) and Logan (Wagner) battling right before the last caution and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get by them. Thankfully, Logan was kinda searching for grip which allowed me to gain some momentum on the top and get around him. Then I was able to track Brent down in traffic. I could run about 80-90% and still take care of my tires. The last time I won here, my tires were pretty beat up because I was spinning them so bad. Tonight I just focused on trying to keep my wheel spin down. I’m glad it paid off.”

GULAR, KOHLER AND CARBERRY ARE FEATURE WINNERS DURING ACTION PACKED NIGHT OF RACING AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. July 19, 2020 . . . A tripleheader show of racing featuring the T.P. Trailers Modifieds and T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman, all part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series, along with the Victory Auto Glass United Racing Club Sprint cars gave fans plenty of racing action with close to 100 racers taking part in the Saturday night action at Grandview Speedway.
Former track Modified champion Mike Gular, winner of the 2019 Freedom 76, overtook the lead from Justin Grim on the tenth lap restart of the 30-lap Modified feature and finished comfortably ahead of runner-up Grim, who posted his best career finish. It was Gular’s first win of the year at the 1/3-mile oval and his sixth career triumph at the track.
In the 25-lap Sportsman feature Scott Kohler, competing in his sophomore season, inherited the lead when rookie Dakota Kohler pulled into the infield with mechanical problems when his car wouldn’t refire prior to one of the numerous 17th lap restarts. Kohler immediately opened daylight when the race finally went green and went on to score his first career victory by a sizeable margin over second-place finisher Nate Brinker.
Adam Carberry, coming from a long line of racing Carberry family members, scored his first career win in the 25-lap URC Sprint car event.
Providing the Modified and Sportsman feature winners met the necessary requirements, they received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and a certificate from VP Fuels for product awards. The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award recipients were Gular and S. Kohler. Jimmy Leiby earned an extra bonus from the track for being the highest finishing crate engine with his seventh place finish in the Sportsman main event.
Justin Grim was the early pacesetter at the onset of the Modified feature followed by Mike Lisowski, Colt Harris, Clay Butler and Gular.
Kevin Hirthler spun in the second turn on the second lap triggering a 12-car tangle as the caution was thrown. Several could rejoin the action after pit stops. Grim held his ground when action resumed and the order remained the same as previously.
Kyle Weiss, while running a solid seventh, came to an abrupt halt in the second turn with engine problems to bring out the sixth lap yellow. It was a three-way battle for first on the restart between Grim, Lisowski and Gular. Behind the trio dicing for the remaining top five positions were Louden Reimert and Jeff Strunk.
Gular had just taken over second when another multi car tangle took place in the first turn for the third yellow with nine laps in the books. On the restart Gular, who has been experimenting with various things this year along with the crew, shot into the top spot when action resumed to become the new pacesetter.
Gular wasted no time pulling away from his fellow competitors while Grim, Lisowski, Strunk and Reimert completed the top five. Craig Von Dohren was right behind waiting for a false move to advance.
While Grim and Strunk jockeyed for second this allowed Gular to open more daylight and pull away even more.
No more restarts were needed to give anyone the opportunity to try to overtake Gular and at the drop of the checkered Gular was victorious followed by Grim, Strunk, Lisowski and Von Dohren. Rounding out the top ten were Reimert, Ryan Watt, Dylan Swinehart, last week’s feature winner; Clay Butler and Craig Whitmoyer.
Harris, Ryan Grim, Strunk and Gular won the heats. Consies were won by Brad Grim and Kenny Gilmore.
In the Sportsman feature Scott Kohler was the early leader with pressure from Dakota Kohler, John McGovern, Tom Miller and Nathan Mohr.
The top five running order remained the same until the 15th lap when D. Kohler moved into the lead.
Two laps later Jesse Leiby spun in turn two for the first yellow. After four tries to get the next lap completed it was decided the restart would be single file. Prior to the next attempt D. Kohler surrendered the lead to S. Kohler again since his engine wouldn’t refire. Kohler didn’t hesitate to pull away when action went green again with Brinker, Mark Kemmerer, Brandon Edgar, already a feature winner this season and Parker Guldin in pursuit. Guldin’s mechanical misfortunes continued as he was forced out of competition and pulled into the infield along the backstretch without incident on the 19th lap.
Kohler never gave up the lead and went on to post the triumph. Chasing him across the line were Brinker, Kemmerer, Edgar and Chris Esposito. Sixth through tenth were Brad Arnold, Jimmy Leiby, Kyle Smith, returning from a horrendous flip last week; Ryan Beltz and Decker Swinehart.
D. Kohler, John McGovern and S. Kohler won the heats. The consolation race was won by Arnold.
Polesitter Josh Weller was off and running at the drop of the green in the URC feature and set a torrid pace until the field was regrouped on the tenth lap when Ryan Stillwagon, a provisional starter, stopped on the backstretch to bring out the yellow. On the restart Carberry, who had just overtaken second the previous lap, outgunned Weller to become the new pacesetter. Derek Locke followed through at the same time to challenge.
Lapped traffic came onto the scene by the 17th lap allowing Locke to close in on Carberry.
The pair with Carberry on the high groove and Locke on the inside, ran side by side, but Carberry still maintained the lead.
Carberry never looked back once he took over first and pulled into victory lane for a well-deserved win. Paulie Colagiovanni was second with Locke third followed by Ryan Taylor and Weller. Troy Betts, Davie Franek, Matt Tanner, Tyler Ross and Curt Michael completed the top ten.
Wingless Super Sportsman racers will be the attraction along with the T.P.Trailers Modifieds and T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman when Grandview Speedway offers fans an exciting tripleheader show on Saturday, July 25th. And there is no increase in admission with adults paying just $15 and all under 12 being admitted free. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. and pits open at 4 p.m. Racing gets the green flag at 7:30 p.m.
Coming up on Saturday, August 1st is the 50th Annual Forrest Rogers Memorial dedicated to the man who had the idea and then created the one-third-mile, clay banked speedway that has become one of the most successful weekly short tracks in the nation. Modifieds will be racing for $10,000 to win. Sportsman will be the second part of the doubleheader. Adult admission is $25, youngster 6 thru 11 pay just $5 and those under 6 are admitted free.

Kyle Larson defeats All Stars and Posse for Tommy Hinnershitz Classic victory
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (July 17, 2020) - Forced to track down one of Pennsylvania’s finest, Elk Grove, California’s Kyle Larson continued his open wheel winning ways on Friday night during a visit to the world-famous Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, this time claiming the annual Tommy Hinnershitz Classic for a $5,000 payday over a stacked field of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1, World of Outlaws and Pennsylvania Posse competitors.
Larson’s route to Williams Grove Speedway victory lane did not come easy, as the now eight-time Series winner in 2020 did not take command for the first time until lap 27, ultimately using lapped traffic within the final five circuits to hunt down race-long leader Anthony Macri before driving around the familiar No. 39M between turns three and four on lap 27. Certainly no stranger to the Williams Grove half-mile, Larson put himself in striking distance on lap 22, utilizing momentum and a diving move across the bottom of turn three to take second away from Kerry Madsen.
Macri, who led from the drop of the green before losing command to Larson, held on to finish second in the Tommy Hinnershitz Classic main event, followed by Kerry Madsen, David Gravel and Daryn Pittman.
“This is pretty cool. Anytime you can win over a field like this is pretty special, especially at Williams Grove Speedway,” Kyle Larson said, driver of the Paul Silva-owned/Finley Farms/Tarlton and Sons/Durst/Lucas Oil/No. 57 sprint car. “I thought we were pretty good all night. Once we got to halfway, I knew it was time to pick it up a little bit if we wanted to be there at the end. I was able to carry a lot of speed through the corners and that really helped us out, even when we got into some traffic. Paul Silva does a pretty awesome job getting these cars to drive to well. Hopefully we can keep this going.”
Before Larson made his presence known, Macri was forced to deal with Kerry Madsen. Madsen, aboard the Killer Instinct Crossbows No. 2M, got away second after the initial start and maintained a steady distance from Macri until the frontrunners found traffic for the first time on lap eight. Forced to check up and lose momentum, Madsen took advantage and gained ground on Macri, eventually racing himself to a car length by the completion of lap nine.
Even after a caution on lap 16, which allowed Macri to restart with a clear track and clean air ahead, Madsen kept himself in contention, actually trying to slide Macri on lap 17, and again on lap 19. Although both attempts failed, the slider exchanges allowed Larson to enter the picture by lap 22.
With eight Series victories thus far in 2020, Kyle Larson is now on top of the wins leaderboard. Two-time and defending All Star champion, Aaron Reutzel, is second with seven.

Tony Stewart’s Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will continue their trek through the Keystone State with a doubleheader at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania, on Saturday and Sunday, July 18-19. Dubbed the Bob Weikert Memorial, the two-day program will award back-to-back $10,000 top prizes with a $5,000 bonus to the overall weekend champion; the driver with the highest average finish, but one of the two finishes must be a victory. Hafertepe Hustles The Highside For Lucas Oil ASCS Victory At U.S. 36 Raceway

(July 17, 2020) Working the Highline at U.S. 36 Raceway, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. held off numerous challenges and, at times, heavy lapped traffic Friday night U.S. 36 Raceway for his 51st career victory with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

Sam's fourth win with the Tour in 2020, the Hills Racing No. 15h, gave chase from the fourth starting spot as third starting Harli White took off with the race lead after going three-wide into the first turn. Moving to second on the opening lap, traffic came into the picture by Lap 5 with Sam taking over the lead on Lap 7, only to have a caution negate the pass.
Going slide for slide on the ensuing restart with six laps officially complete, Hafertepe grabbed the point the following lap. Driving back around the No. 15 to lead Lap 8, White was again challenged for the lead with Hafertepe able to fend off the Dustin Dream No. 17w, all while Blake Hahn nearly drove by both drivers with a high line run off the fourth turn as they started back into traffic.
On the battle with White, Sam stated, "I knew lapped traffic was going to be tough and that let Blake [Hahn] almost get by both of us when we were battling for the lead with Harli. That's how it usually goes here, but I have to say, the track was awesome. This is probably the best surface I've ever seen here. To have it on the wall in one and two, and on the top in three and four. If I'm a fan, I couldn't ask from more than that."
Keeping the No. 52 at bay, Hahn settled into second.
Holding pace with Hafertepe, the pair worked traffic as the caution shown working Lap 16. Reverting to the last fully completed lap on the restart, the green was short-lived as Shayle Bade flipped in the turn one while running ninth. She was okay.
Going after Hafertepe on the restart, Hahn settled back into Sam's tire tracks with the pair pulling away from the field. Taking one more shot on the bottom of turns three and four as the pair raced to the white flag, it was not enough as Hafertepe opened his advantage to 0.405-seconds on the closing lap.
"I was actually struggling on one and two when we got into traffic," commented Sam. "They were running the bottom and kicking up so much dust off the infield, I couldn't see where the cushion was, or how close I was to the wall, and I didn't want to jeopardize anything, so I cheated it down there a few times, but at the end on open track, I felt like we had plenty."
Blake Hahn held on for second with Ayrton Gennetten posting his first podium finish with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network in the Ozark Barge and Dock No. 3 after a torrid battle with Harli White, who ended up fourth. Moving up from 10th, Matt Covington completed the top five.
The night's Hard Charger from 17th, Roger Crockett ended up sixth with Danny Sams III in seventh after starting 13th. Brodix Rookie of the Year contender, Ryan Bickett, landed his first top ten of the season with an eighth-place finish while Alex Hill earned her second top ten of the year, going from 15h to ninth. Jay Russell completed the top ten.
A field of 30 drivers was on hand at U.S. 36 Raceway from 10 States and three Countries.
SCE Gaskets Heat Race wins went to Riley Goodno, Shayle Bade, Jay Russell, and Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Roger Crockett topped the BMRS B-Feature. Provisionals were used by Jordon Mallett and Travis Reber based on ASCS Owner Points.
