IS A FIRST-TIME GRANDVIEW WINNER LIKELY TUESDAY, JUNE 28 DURING THUNDER ON THE HILL SPEEDWEEK EVENT ?
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (JUNE 27, 2016) – Winning at Grandview Speedway is no easy task -- especially when the 410 Sprint Cars invade the Berks County oval – but this year’s contingent of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speed week competitors may be the strongest in years, and there is definitely opportunity to knock off two-time defending race winner Greg Hodnett.
The challenge takes place this Tuesday, June 28 at 7:30 PM when NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series showcases the 410 Sprint Cars in a 35-lap, $5,000-to-win event as the NASCAR 358 Modifieds battlein a 30-lap, $3,000-to-win feature presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings.
Leading the charge is Broken Arrow, Oklahoma’s Stevie Smith. A veteran of Sprint Car racing, Smith has claimed victories at almost every track he’s raced at. Of course, it was August 1990 when the Smith Family’s famed Black Bandit No. 19 sat in Thunder on the Hill victory lane. Steve Smith Sr. would pilot that machine to the inaugural NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series event win. Now, twenty-six years later the younger Smith – defending PA Speed Week Champion – searches for his first Thunder on the Hill win a Grandview Speedway.
Sitting second in PA Speed Week Series points is 31-year-old Lucas Wolfe, of Mechanicsburg, PA. Wolfe certainly knows the fast way around the Bechtelsville high-banks setting quick time at 2015’s Thunder Cup race. At the 2014, Speed Week event Wolfe pulled alongside eventual race winner Greg Hodnett, with two laps remaining only to be beaten by inches at the line – this wasn’t Wolfe’s first time as a bridesmaid, he finished second to Todd Shaffer at the 2007 Speed Week event.
Kunkletown, PA’s Ryan Smith claimed three victories in 2015, traveling with the All-Star Circuit of Champions and has solid finishes in just three 410 starts at Grandview Speedway with a sixth, fourth and seventh in respectively.
Ryan Taylor’s flashy No. 20 machine is a fan favorite at Grandview Speedway – probably because the 27-year-old racer credits the Bechtelsville clay for piquing his interest in racing action. Taylor is a proven winner, having claimed victories at the Port Royal Speedway.
Smith’s teammates, 20-year-old Sprint Car aces Brandon and Freddie Rahmer, out of Salfordville, PA, have both claimed home track victories this season – and Freddie has picked up a top-five finish at Grandview’s last two 410 Sprint races. The Rahmer name is no stranger to Grandview victory lane – Fred Rahmer holds 9 Thunder on the Hill Sprint Car wins and 45 Modified victories.
Other possible first-time winners include Brent Marks of Myerstown, PA; Alan Crimes of Denver, PA, JJ Grasso of Middletown, DE, and Aaron Tot of East Berlin, PA. Noblesville, IN’s Bryan Clausen has never claimed a winged Sprint Car victory at Grandview, but does hold two wingless Sprint Car wins.
A $200 bonus has been posted to the top 360 Sprint Car, with a $100 bonus to the second 360 Sprint Car.
The Grandview small-block Modified stars will be out in full force defending their home turf: Current weekly series point leader, Craig VonDohren; 10-time Track Champion, Jeff Strunk; two-time 2016 race winner, Duane Howard; and 4-time Thunder on the Hill winner, Doug Manmiller. Previous Thunder on the Hill modified winners Rick Laubach, Mike Gular, Ryan Godown, and Kevin Hirthler are all expected to be in attendance.
Advance tickets are on sale now and may be ordered by calling 443-513-4456. Please provide your name and the number of tickets requested. Tickets may be picked up and paid for on race night after 3:30 PM. Advance ticket holders may enter the grandstands at 4:30 PM, one half hour prior to the sale of General Admission tickets.
Celebrating the 27th season of racing action NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series always includes fun for the fans with activities such as Pre-Race Pit Tours, the Inside/Out Experience - where fans can sign-up to watch hot laps from the infield, JOE "THE PIZZA DUDE", giveaways, fireworks and appearances by the Thunder Girls.
The Low Down & Dirty Meet and Greet kicks off at 5 PM with drivers Ryan Smith and Ryan Taylor. Fans are encouraged to take photos and get autographs with these popular Sprint Car drivers.

MESERAULL ALL FIRED UP IN LAKESIDE SPRINT VICTORY
Kansas City, Kansas June 26, 2016 ......... In a battle between the two most consistent drivers throughout the 2016 USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car season, Thomas Meseraull prevailed through the early rain and a brief fire on his car during a red flag period in the feature, sneaking underneath Brady Bacon on the bottom of turn four as the two raced to the white flag and holding on to take his second series victory of the year.
Heavy showers just prior to the original starting time delayed the proceedings for more than an hour. When the cars hit the track for the first time at a quarter after seven, it was evident the track was going to be heavy and hammer down.
Thomas Meseraull drove home the point in ProSource Qualifying, breaking Chase Stockon's one-day old USAC Sprint Car track record at the 4/10-mile dirt oval by more than three-tenths of a second. That would position the San Jose, California driver outside of the third row for the start of the 30-lap feature.
On the start, Dave Darland darted out front from the pole position to lead the opening lap with Brady Bacon in tow.
By the fifth lap, Bacon was challenging for the top spot as he worked the bottom and Darland held court up top. The next five circuits all appeared as mirror images of each other with Bacon edging ahead entering turn four and Darland using the momentum off the top to race past Bacon to reach the flagstand first each time.
On lap 10, Darland and Bacon encountered the lapped car of Terry Richards as the two entered turn three. With the line up on the cushion occupied by Richards, Darland switched lanes to the middle of the track between three and four. Bacon seized the opportunity, slipping by Darland on the bottom to take the point with 21 to go.
On the ensuing restart after a caution for the stopped car of Riley Kreisel, Bacon stretched his lead over Darland by a half-straight margin. But, by lap 20, Bacon had gained new company.
With 11 to go, Meseraull motored by Darland for second off the fourth turn and now had his radar locked on the distant Bacon.
In the midst of Bacon putting Clinton Boyles a lap down on the 22nd lap, Boyles vaulted over Bacon's right rear tire with his own left rear, sending Boyles hard into the turn two outside wall with the right rear wheel first before helicoptering around 360 degrees in mid-air, landing and flopping over to the right side, and then coming to a rest on all fours. Boyles was uninjured.
Under the red flag period that brought a stoppage to the action, flames began to shoot out of the left side of second-running Meseraull's machine. The safety crew was able to extinguish the fire, but not before the flames singed the left side body work of the Amati Racing number 66.
Though it appeared as a somewhat serious situation at first, Meseraull was able to restart without an issue from the second position, right on Bacon's tail for the lap 22 restart.
Bacon got a nice jump on the field on the restart, putting a little breathing room between himself and Meseraull up front.
Two laps later, Meseraull was able to close in a flash, amazingly laying down some of his fastest laps of the race during the late stretch of laps.
Like one of the ghosts in a game of Pac-Man, Meseraull tracked Bacon down, rapidly erasing the distance between himself and Bacon as the final handful of laps ticked away.
On lap 26, Meseraull was two car lengths back; on lap 27, one length back. On lap 28, Meseraull had Bacon in his crosshairs and was ready to fire.
Meseraull was able to pull even with Bacon midway down the back straightaway with two to go and, with the white flag in the air, Meseeraull pounced to the front to pull ahead of Bacon exiting turn four.
Meseraull finished out the night in the same manner he started it in qualifying: with his number 66 listed at the top of the scoreboard after taking the checkered flag in front of Bacon, Chris Windom, Chase Stockon and Chad Boespflug.
The familiar refrain "I've seen fire and I've seen rain" is a tune that played out to reality in Sunday night's event at Lakeside Speedway with competitors and fans able to withstand the rain early on as well as witness Meseraull's resilience, coming back from a burning car near the midway point of the feature to standing in victory lane at night's end after picking up his fourth career series win in his Amati Racing/Marion Underground Construction - Zeller Construction/DRC/Dynotech.
"I was chasing Brady (Bacon) and I finally decided I was maybe good enough to do something with him," Meseraull said. "I saw (Dave) Darland moving around people pretty good on the outside earlier, so I just got it in a little higher and got myself diamonded off of (turn) two. On that lap, Brady moved up just enough and I got underneath him. I love racing Brady. He gave me room and he raced me clean."
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma's Bacon grabbed second in his Dynamics, Inc./Mean Green - Lykins Oil/Triple X/Williams Mopar. Despite the disappointment of seeing the win slip through his fingers in the final laps, Bacon lost minimal ground - two points to be exact - in the championship race to Meseraull, his nearest challenger, after earning his seventh consecutive top-4 finish. He now holds a 59-point advantage heading into the 2nd annual "Bill Gardner Sprintacular" at Putnamville, Indiana's Lincoln Park Speedway on July 1.
"I had an extremely successful Midwest swing," Bacon noted. "I'm disappointed to come up short at the end here at Lakeside, but I can't complain too much about second-place. My tires went away a little after that red and I lost just enough grip that enabled (Meseraull) to get by."
Windom, of Canton, Illinois, drove his Baldwin Brothers Racing/Fox Paving - AMSOIL/Maxim/Claxton Mopar to a third-place finish Sunday night.
"Track position was a big key tonight," Windom acknowledged. "We qualified well and it put us up front. We anticipated to stay on the top, so we tightened the car up a little too much. We did a few things that hurt us when (the groove) moved to the bottom, but (the car) was actually really good around the bottom. We held on. We weren't a winning car tonight, but we'll take a top-three to finish off this weekend."
Fifth-place finisher Boespflug pocketed the Weld Racing $1000 bonus.

VONDOHREN CAPTURES 3RD MODIFIED WIN OF THE SEASON USING A BACK-UP CAR AND INCREASES POINT LEAD; BRAD ARNOLD BECOMES NINTH SPORTSMAN FEATURE WINNER OF THE SEASON AND DAVE BROWN JR WINS CLOSE TSRS SPRINT FEATURE RACE
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. June 26, 2016 . . . Defending Grandview Speedway Modified point champion and current point leader Craig VonDohren damaged his primary car in his qualifying event forcing him to go to a back-up car in the consolation race. The multi-time track champion was able to win the consolation and then started 22nd in the T.P. Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified All-American Racing Series 30-Lap feature sponsored by Bechtelsville Car Wash on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway. By the 14th lap he was in a three-way battle for first with Kenny Gilmore and Kyle Weiss. VonDohren overtook second on the 22nd lap to pressure Gilmore as the pair approached lap traffic. The lead changed with two laps left with VonDohren now in front and he went on to capture his third win of the season and Grandview career win number 98. He also received $250 from T.P. Trailers, Limerick and $150 worth of products from V.P. Racing Fuels for running their gas and carrying the proper decals.
Brad Arnold put a crate engine in the WEEU 830 AM Radio sponsored mount and won his first 25-lap Sportsman feature of the season and his second career win – the last one being July 11, 2015. He was also awarded an extra $100 from T.P. Trailers.
The 25-Lap TSRS Sprint feature winner was Dave Brown by a narrow margin over runner-up Tim Tanner Jr.
Tuesday, June 28th, 7:30 p.m. will see the Pennsylvania Sprint Speed Week 410 Sprints in action along with the 358 Modifieds.
The TP Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds will head up the tripleheader show set for Saturday, July2nd at 7:30 p.m. Whelen Engineering will sponsor the night of racing that will also include the BRC Late Models and Sportsman. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. And again on Saturday there will be a Low Down and Dirty Radio Meet & Greet featuring racers and their race cars. It all takes place near the main gate at 5 p.m. and gives fans a chance to meet drivers, collect autographs and take photos.
Brian Houseknecht put the Bechtelsville Car Wash No. 323 ahead of the 28-car starting grid and set the pace for six laps before Ryan Grim charged past both Gilmore and Houseknecht to become the new pacesetter.
Grim immediately checked out, but his lead only lasted three laps as he came to a stop in the first turn bringing out the yellow and relinquishing the top spot to Gilmore,.
Weiss, Houseknecht, Tim Buckwalter, Jared Umbenhauer and VonDohren diced for positions behind Gilmore.
Gilmore ran the high groove in the Breitenstein No. 14 while Weiss made several runs trying to dive underneath him to try to take away first, but each attempt was futile.
VonDohren soon made it a three-way tryst for first with neither one giving in. Anticipating a false move by either one in hopes to advance were Mike Gular and Umbenhauer.
The front runners had to use heads up driving tactics when they approached the slower moving cars racing for positions also.
After battling with Weiss for eight laps, Von Dohren was finally able to get around him and set his sights on Gilmore.
VonDohren missed the five lap to go sign since he said it was “dusty” since the week-long head didn’t help matters and also the two to go, but it was on lap 28 that he passed Gilmore.
Once VonDohren took control he held the spot and was “thankful to be in victory lane because of the way the night started.” Having his season best finish in second was Gilmore followed by Gular, Jeff Strunk, last week’s feature winner and Weiss.
Heats were won by Gilmore, Tim Buckwalter and Gular. The 3-lap Bechtelsville Car Wash Cash Dash worth $300 was won by Gilmore.
After three tries to complete a lap in the Sportsman feature, rookie Jesse Landis led the way and held onto first for seven laps when Arnold emerged as the new pacesetter.
Within no time Arnold out-distanced himself from the rest of the competition leaving Landis, Ken Eckert Jr., Kyle Lilick and Joe Funk III dice for the remaining top five spots.
Arnold’s comfortable lead was erased on the 22nd lap when Craig Whitmoyer, who was working his way to the front after being involved in the opening lap mishap, slowed along the backstretch with Mark Kemmerer also involved. It was still Arnold first on the restart.
Arnold never relinquished the lead and went on to the winner’s circle being chased by Landis, Eckert Jr., Lilick and Funk III.
Dean Bachman, Rich Jones and Kyle Lilick won the heats. The consi was won by Ryan Lilick.
In the third heat, rookie Andrew Kreis did a barrel roll several times along the backstretch. He got out of the car and into the ambulance under his own power, but was taken to Reading Hospital as a precautionary measure to be checked out.
Kody Kinser was the early leader in the TSRS feature until Jon Haegele assumed the lead on the fourth circuit.
The red had to be thrown for a multi-car homestretch incident in which all drivers were uninjured. Haegele held the lead on the restart with Kinser trying to regain the top spot.
Scott Frack brought out the yellow on the 14th lap when he slowed his pace. On this restart Brown in third, charged into the lead with Tim Tanner Jr. following for second.
Brown held onto first the remaining laps to take home the win with Tanner Jr., Mike Haggenbottom, Jeff Geiges and Austin Burke behind.
Brown, Haggenbottom and Jason Rochelle won the heats.

410 SPRINTS & 358 MODIFIEDS INVADE GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY FOR BIG DOUBLEHEADER TUESDAY NIGHT
The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings will present one of the biggest events of the 2016 Thunder Series when the 410 Sprints and 358 NASCAR Modifieds invade the “hill” for an exciting double header. The 410 Sprints will take part in the Annual Pennsylvania Sprint Speed Week Series event chasing $5,000 to win. The 358 Modifieds will chase a $3,000 payday. Gates open at 5 PM with race time set for 7:30 PM.
Pre-entered 410 sprint drivers include Double “D” Danny Dietrich of Gettysburg, PA, winner of the Thunder Cup at Grandview in 2015. Prior to the Thunder Cup, Greg Hodnett won the four previous 410 shows at Grandview. Other entries include Bryan Clauson, Freddie Rahmer, Lucas Wolfe, JJ Grasso, Billy Dietrich, Ryan Smith, Alan Krimes, Aaron Ott, Brent Marks, Ryan Taylor and Davey Sammons to name a few.
Time trials for the 410 sprints will open the show and a new one lap track record could be established. Jeff Shepard holds the current fast time mark of 11.433 set on May 21, 2008. Heat race qualifying, the “B” main and a 35 lap 410 sprint feature will headline the race card. The NASCAR 358 Modifieds will compete in a series of heat race events, a consolation and a $3,000 to win 30 lap feature. Rick Laubach parked in victory lane winning the modified feature at the Thunder Series event on Tuesday night, June 7.
Adult admission tickets are $25, children 6 -11 $10 and children under 5 will be admitted for free. A pit license is not required and the pit fee is $35.
Advance grandstand tickets may be reserved by calling 443 513 4456. Please leave your name, number of tickets and a phone number. You may pick-up and purchase your tickets on race night (Tuesday, June 28) at the Will Call Window after 4 PM. Advance ticket holders may enter the grandstand at 4:30 PM. General admission tickets will go on sale at 5 PM.
Race fans are invited to come out early and take part in the always entertaining Low, Down & Dirty Meet & Greet that takes place at the front gate. Several drivers and cars will be on display to welcome the race fans to Thunder on the Hill. Race fans may also sign up to take part in the Pre-Race Pit Tours. It is absolutely free, just sign up at the main gate and take a tour of the pit area prior to the start of the races. Did you always have a desire to watch a few laps from the infield? Well you can at any Thunder on the Hill event. Sign up inside the front gate for the Inside-Out Promotion and you can watch warm-ups from the infield.
Of course, after the racing event you are invited to be part of the victory lane celebration and also visit all the competitors in the pit area.
The Tuesday, June 28 event will be the one-hundred and twentieth Thunder on the Hill Racing Series event at Grandview and 2016 marks the twenty-seventh season of the Thunder Series.

BALLOU CRUISES TO SECOND STRAIGHT LAKESIDE SCORE
Kansas City, Kansas- June 25, 2016 ......Lakeside Speedway has been very kind to Robert Ballou over the past two seasons and on Saturday night, the Rocklin, California driver returned to victory lane for the second consecutive time at the 4/10-mile track, leading all 30 laps from his pole-starting position.
On the initial lap of the main event, Ballou shot to the front for the advantage into turn one. Inside second row starter Thomas Meseraull followed suit and was able to pull even with Ballou at the stripe on the opening lap.
Lap three, Dave Darland, who's shown consistency of late, put his machine up on the cushion, using a highside flyer to dispose of Meseraull for the second spot and now had his sights set on the defending series champion and last year's Lakeside winner Ballou.
Ballou was masterful through lapped traffic in his dominant run above the cushion at the Kansas City dirt oval one season ago and, this time, he would meet the tail of the field on the ninth lap as the frontrunners set a torrid pace in the opening laps.
Quickly, Ballou, Darland and now Brady Bacon successfully weaved their way through a conglomeration of lapped cars, diving low and high to maintain momentum and stay in front of their nearest challenger.
As Ballou opened up a three-quarters of a straightaway length by the midway point, the battle intensified for the second position. Bacon and Darland ran side-by-side - Bacon low, Darland high - with Bacon able to get a run off of turn four to take second at the line.
With 13 laps to go, the feature's only yellow flew when the right rear of Isaac Chapple's came apart right in front of race leader Ballou. Ballou was able to dive to the inside to safety as shards of rubber scattered through the air between turns one and two.
On the ensuing restart, Bacon was able to pull even with Ballou as the two entered the second corner, but Ballou was able to jet off the top to reclaim the point down the back straightaway.
On lap 21, Darland used the outside line to swing past Bacon for second, but almost immediately, Bacon clawed back, retaking the position from Darland for good at the entrance to turn one.
Meanwhile, Ballou had stretched his lead out and, with five laps to go, the only thing that stood in his way of claiming another Lakeside triumph was the Kansas City rush hour traffic.
Ballou sliced, diced, minced and chopped his way through the back of the field, making it look easy as he cruised to victory by 1.395 seconds over Bacon, Darland, Meseraull and Chris Windom.
Ballou led the event wire-to-wire in his Ballou Motorsports/Blakesley Auto - Rossie Feed & Grain/Maxim/Ott for his third victory USAC National Sprint Car victory of the 2016 season.
"Starting on the front row, especially after the track rework, I was worried about whether the top or bottom would be better," Ballou said. I ran the bottom early, but almost stayed down too long before I got back up. I got back up and got my momentum going. By the end, I was attacking traffic hard because I knew those guys were right there. I hurt my tires by the end. They were pretty well used up and I was sliding around. I just tried to stay high and keep my momentum up and that was probably the key there."
Brady Bacon's consistency of late has put him squarely in the driver's seat of the series point standings. His second place finish at Lakeside in his Dynamics, Inc./Mean Green - Lykins Oil/Triple X/Williams Mopar netted him his sixth straight top-four finish and, thus, provided him a 61-point advantage - his largest lead of the season - as the series heads into night two of back-to-back nights at Lakeside on Sunday.
"Robert (Ballou) got through traffic pretty aggressively and got through there good and I didn't quite clear a couple lap cars soon enough to get where I needed to be," Bacon said. It just cost me a little bit of time. "I got close to him on a restart, but it's hard to beat Ballou from the pole. He's not really going to mess up too bad. The bottom just didn't stick around at the end long enough to be able to run very hard. It was a fun race, though, and hopefully we get a good track again tomorrow."
Lincoln, Indiana's Dave Darland has had a successful week, earning a 5th in Jackson, Minn. on Thursday and a pair of third-place finishes Friday night in Eagle, Neb. and Saturday night at Lakeside in his Jeff Walker-Curb-Agajanian Racing/Jam-It-In Storage - Hoosier Tire/Maxim/Claxton.
"We had a good car early," Darland acknowledged. "Robert (Ballou) was running the bottom and I was sneaking up on him. If he had run the bottom maybe one more lap, we could've got him, maybe, maybe not, but we were coming. He apparently heard me. I told (team owner Jeff Walker) I was going to be quiet coming up there and I don't know if he heard me or what, but he did move up at just the right time. We were great early, but with ten laps to go, we got way too tight. I couldn't really run the cushion with authority. Every time I caught lapped traffic, I didn't seem to catch them at the right time. But we're still happy to get out of here with a podium finish. We're sneaking up on getting some wins; we're getting better and we're looking forward to the future."

Balog Bests Outlaws at Beaver Dam Raceway
Captures first series victory in Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial presented by Karavan Trailers
BEAVER DAM, Wis. - June 25, 2016 - Hartland, Wis. native Bill Balog outdueled 2013 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion Daryn Pittman early, then held him off on a final green-white-checkered finish to capture his first series victory in the Jim "JB" Boyd Memorial presented by Karavan Trailers at Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday night.
Balog, who is only the fifth non-Outlaw driver to win in 2016, captured the lead from Pittman on lap three after starting the feature in the second position.
"Now I feel like I have a home track advantage," Balog said as the Wisconsin fans cheered. "We have won a few here, but not really dominating wins. I got a lot of Wisconsin people here behind me, so I got to thank all of you guys.
"Maybe they didn't think we could do it, but we did it and it's an awesome, awesome night."
Pittman, who was victorious in a green-white-checkered finish on Friday night at Jackson Motorplex, tried everything possible to muscle the victory away from Balog, but came up one spot short of claiming back-to-back victories.
"I gave everything I had," Pittman said. "I had it all planned out perfectly in my head, but it didn't go that way. Nothing went the way I thought; we had that red flag, and I think my tire went down a little bit...think if my tire was low enough, I probably could've stuck it, because after the checkered I hit it really good down there, but too little, too late.
"Congrats to Bill and his team, they did a great job and he ran a great race, so they deserve to win. I just needed to make some better decisions and get to the top of the track quicker and hang on to the lead a little longer."
The night kicked-off with Joey Saldana picking up his 10th quick-time award of the season, when he paced qualifying with a lap of 11.895 seconds. Saldana continued to flash speed early as he accompanied Jason Johnson and David Gravel as heat race winners in the dash.
The dash inversion draw was not Saldana's friend, as a complete inversion of the six-car field placed Saldana at the rear and put Balog on the pole position.
Balog, in the Buesser Concrete/Extreme Stainless No. 17B, could not capitalize on the lucky break, as he lost the lead early to Pittman, who started the six-lap race in the third spot. Pittman easily scored the dash victory, which placed him on the pole position for the 40-lap feature.
As soon as the green flag dropped for the feature, Pittman, in the Great Clips/Sage Fruit No. 9, jumped out to an early lead on Balog. Pittman held on to the top spot for the opening two laps, but Balog charged his way back to the front of the field and retook the lead on lap three.
The race began with a 23-lap green flag run which allowed Balog to extend his lead on Pittman as the two battled through lapped traffic. Pittman kept within striking distance of the leader, before a caution with 17 to-go hampered his plans.
When the green flag came back out, Balog again escaped the grip of the World of Outlaws regulars, as Pittman suddenly fell victim to a red-hot David Gravel, who started in the third position and remained there through most of the race.
Gravel slid in front of Pittman for second before turning his attention to the leader. Gravel appeared to have the faster car as he tried the infamous dirt track slide-job for the lead, but came up just short as Balog again pulled away from the field.
The caution was displayed again with 10 laps to go, as Brad Sweet, who currently sits second in the championship standings and was running the top five, suffered a mechanical problem and had to take his car to the work area. Sweet later returned, but finished in the 19th position.
On the ensuing restart, Pittman worked his way back around Gravel for the second, but still did not have enough speed to catch the leader.
While the top three remained glued bumper-to-bumper, a familiar face lurked just behind them. Seven-time series champion Donny Schatz, in the Bad Boy Off Road/Chevrolet Performance No. 15, charged his way from the 14th starting position to crack the top five with just five laps remaining. Schatz appeared to be peaking too late as the had a sizeable deficit to overcome to contend for the win, but a final caution on the white-flag lap changed the outlook of the race.
Balog restarted the race ahead of 2013 series champion Pittman, 1996 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Joey Saldana and seven-time series champion Schatz, who have combined to win 19 races this season.
Over the final two laps, Saldana and Schatz battled hard for the third position while Pittman tried everything possible to disrupt Balog and steal the victory.
In the end, the local driver kept his car glued on the outside line, which prevented Pittman from building up enough momentum to clear him for the lead. Balog held on to the lead and defeated the World of Outlaws to score the victory in his home state of Wisconsin.
"What a race, I have to thank everybody that helped me out," Balog said. "It's a really good feeling - we were in a similar position a couple of years ago and kind of gave it away, so I wanted to make sure that didn't happen again.
"We could restart really well off of the bottom, so I knew if I could just get up to the cushion and beat the slide job - I didn't know if Daryn [Pittman] was running the bottom or not. [The Outlaws] are the best of the best, so it's a pleasure to race with them really."
Pittman held off Schatz for the runner-up position, as he picked up his 17th podium finish of the 2016 season.
"I had a plan thinking [Balog] might slide himself, or short slide himself and cheat his entry into one and I was just going to try to hit as good a lap around the top," Pittman added. "I was killing him off of four on the bottom, so if I could get close enough off of two then I could get him. He ended up having a good two or three car lengths on me off of two and there wasn't enough time to get back to him.
"I had a good run going there and tried to pull the slider too early, with probably five or six to go, and then lost a lot of ground, but made it back up. It was a good effort, but I'm frustrated to run second."
Schatz, who finished sixth on Friday night at Jackson Motorplex, rebounded for his eighth top-three finish in the month of June and 18th of the season.
"Tony Stewart's guys are awesome at what they do," Schatz said. "The way the races play out, our cars just get better and better. Great job to be able to come through there and it was a respectable finish, but I think the two cars in front of us were a little better.
"You never know, the race tracks change and sometimes they change towards you and sometimes they change against you. I don't know if it went either way for us but we were lucky to pick up the spots that we did."

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA 6/25/2016 – Lance Dewease was never really gone. But his performances in a limited number of appearances has amazed even the most doubting fans in 2016.
Dewease started on the pole, followed outside front row starter Lucas Wolfe for the first eight laps, drove by the Zemco #1 in heavy lapped traffic on lap eight to take the lead for good in claiming the $7,000 top prize on what turned out to be opening night of the 26th Annual Pennsylvania Speedweek Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.
“It’s fun to be back,” said Dewease after scoring his 39th career Lincoln win in 17th Annual Kevin Gobrecht Memorial, “It’s been a long time since they’ve been here, and I haven’t raced here any this year.”
It was the first Kreitz car win at Lincoln in ten years.
Once in the lead, Dewease pulled away from the field to a four-second advantage in heavy lapped traffic when the first caution of the event came out for Cory Haas, who made contact with Doug Esh and came to a stop sideways on the back stretch. Haas changed a flat tire and rejoined the race.
Fifth-starting Stevie Smith had worked his way into second for the restart, with Danny Dietrich third after a multi-lap battle with Greg Hodnett.
They were still running first through third when the red flag came out for Gerard McIntyre, who rolled onto his side after contact with Esh on turn four on lap 24.
“The surface is a little different,” said Dewease of his first Lincoln appearance of the year, “We struggled all night. We were pretty good there once we got going. But after that last caution I was just hanging on. I wasn’t that good, and I didn’t know where to run. I saw Stevie and kinda knew where he was probably going to be. When Danny popped to third…you know, he can run anywhere around this place.”
Dietrich found a burst of speed over the final laps to close within two car-lengths of Dewease at the finish, just .284 seconds behind the winner. Smith settled for third, with Hodnett and Wolfe rounding out the top five.
“It’s an honor for me to drive this for Donnie and with Davey working on it,” reflected Dewease, “The whole Kreitz family and the whole crew. We’re just here having fun. It is what it is. We may not have had the best race car we had all year, but we took advantage of a good starting spot here tonight.”
Dewease’s win in the Kevin Gobrecht Memorial gave him the early points lead in the Speedweek series (166), 15 points ahead of Danny Dietrich (151), followed by Hodnett (148), Stevie Smith (143), and Wolfe (135).
Sixth through tenth were 13th-starting Brent Marks, hard charger Aaron Ott (who came from 19th), Brian Montieth, Alan Krimes, and Robbie Kendall.
Fast time in time trials over the 40-car was set by Greg Hodnett with a one-lap time of 13.375-seconds (100.935 MPH).
Heats for the sprints were won by Stevie Smith, Jim Siegel, Wolfe, and Krimes. Brock Zearfoss won the B-Main.
Bob Stough won his heat, drew a #6 pill for the feature inversion, and came from sixth to score his fifth career Lincoln win in the Central PA Legends feature. Stough was the four different leader of the event.
Scott Haudeshell led the first two laps from the pole before Lucas Montgomery took the lead on lap three. He led until Mason Chaney wrestled the lead away on lap 16. Stough caught Chaney for the top spot on a lap 19 restart and was scored the leader of the final two laps.
Second through fifth were Chaney, Montgomery, Australian invader Hayden Pascoe, and Travis Perry.
Heats for the 32 Legends were won by Stough, Perry, and Chaney, with Chris McKinney winning the consolation.
Lincoln swings back into action next Saturday night, July 2nd, with the Nouse Signs & Graphics Summer 358 Sprint Series event, PASS/IMCA (305) Sprints, and 600 Xcel Modifieds. Racing gets underway at 7:30 PM, with gates opening at 5:30 PM.
