ROSSBURG, Ohio (June 25, 2016) - The “Wild Child” Jac Haudenschild certainly lived up to his label on Saturday night at Eldora Speedway, earning the Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket finale worth $10,000 with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions. Haudenschild, pilot of the familiar Phoenix Racing/No. 59, took command of the 30-lap feature program on lap 17, surviving traffic and constant pressure from Chad Kemenah and Tim Shaffer on the very topside of the speedway. The Wooster, Ohio, native now owns 30 career victories with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, two of which occurring during the 2016 season. Tim Shaffer would cross under the final checkers second, followed by Chad Kemenah, Randy Hannagan, and Danny Holtgraver.
“The car was just really good all night long,” said Jac Haudenschild in victory lane. “Feels good to be back with this team. This is a big win for us. We’ll be back at Eldora Speedway next month, so we’ll try to keep this going and get another one.”
Jac Haudenschild won the battle, but Chad Kemenah won the war, claiming the 2016 Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket title worth $1,000. It is a second ever Ohio Sprint Speedweek championship for the Alvada, Ohio, native and a first ever title for car owner Rob Hunter. Sheldon Haudenschild finished second in the overall Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket title chase, followed by Tim Shaffer, Dean Jacobs, and Kraig Kinser.
“This is a really big deal for our team,” explained Chad Kemenah regarding his Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket title. “My car owner (Rob Hunter) has never won an Ohio Sprint Speedweek title. It’s especially special for us because some of our biggest supporters are here tonight at Eldora Speedway with us. This is a really big momentum boost for our team. Rob and Rita Hunter consistently give us great race cars and great equipment to work with. We’re racing good and that allows us to have a lot of fun.”
With the runner-up finish during the Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket finale, Chad Kemenah officially takes control of the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions title chase, holding a mere 14 point advantage over defending champion Dale Blaney leading into Independence Day weekend.
The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their 2016 campaign with a pair of events in the state of Michigan. “America’s Series” will invade Hartford Speedway and I-96 Speedway during Independence Day weekend, highlighted with the inaugural Dirty 30 presented by Tony Stewart at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa on Sunday, July 3. Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Michigan, will kick off the holiday weekend doubleheader with competition on Saturday night, July 2. Each program will award $5,000.

Steals Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket win from Jamie Veal
LIMA, Ohio (June 24, 2016) - Randy Hannagan became the sixth different Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions main event winner in the last seven races on Friday night, taming Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio, during night seven of Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket. “The Hurricane” charged ahead from row six on the main event starting grid, ultimately climbing 11 positions in 40 laps, not taking command officially until lap 38 and stealing the show from pole sitter Jamie Veal. The Arctic Cat All Star victory was the first of the 2016 season for Randy Hannagan.
“I’m getting too old to run the top,” Randy Hannagan said in victory lane. “I knew guys were going to run the very top and run the very bottom, so I decided to try the middle. I can’t thank my guys enough for their hard work and support. We’ve got a lot of laps at this track. Feels good to get back to victory lane.”
Randy Hannagan patiently worked his way forward from 12th on the feature grid, utilizing the middle of Limaland’s high banked quarter-mile for most of the distance. The San Jose, California, native, now residing in Pittsboro, Indiana, cracked the top-three by lap 19, igniting a four lap battle with Wooster, Ohio’s Sheldon Haudenschild for second and third in the running order. The pilot of the Ed Neumeister-owned/NAPA Upper Auto/No. 11N worked his way into second permanently by lap 26, resetting his focus on race leader Jamie Veal.
A late race caution on lap 34 stacked the field back together for a final time, putting Hannagan on the back bumper of Veal. Hannagan, still utilizing the middle of the speedway, made his bid for the top spot on lap 38, driving under Veal, who led every lap until that point, just before the flagstand. “The Hurricane” went on to separate himself from the field during the closing circuits, eventually followed by Jamie Veal and Travis Philo at the final checkers. It was Hannagan’s ninth career victory with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.
“I want to thank all of the fans for coming out tonight and supporting this race,” said Hannagan. “The All Star officials did a fantastic job keeping this show organized. My team and I are very happy to be here. We’ll head down to Eldora Speedway tomorrow and try this again.”
The final night of the 34th annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket will take shape at none other than the World’s Greatest Dirt Track. Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, will welcome the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions on Saturday night, June 25, for the eighth and final round of Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket, ending a nine day stretch of competition across much of the Buckeye State. The 2016 speedweek finale will award $10,000 to the main event winner, the largest payday of the week. An Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket champion will also be crowned on Saturday night at the “Big E,” a title worth $1,000 for a second consecutive season.
Sheldon Haudenschild is currently on top of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket point standings entering the Eldora Speedway finale. Chad Kemenah only trails by two points. A 2016 champion will be decided at the “Big E.”
Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, will open pit gates at 4:00 pm on Saturday afternoon, June 25. The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions drivers meeting will be handled at 5:30, followed by hot laps at 6. BOESPFLUG BREAKS OUT FOR 3RD WIN OF SEASON AT EAGLE
Eagle, Nebraska -June 24, 2016 - Coming into the 2016 season, it had been three seasons since Chad Boespflug visited USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car victory lane. Now, as the calendar nears the edge of the month of June, the Hanford, California native found the perfect balance on both ends of the racetrack, running the bottom in turns one and two and the topside of turns three and four to perfection to grab his third series win of the year in Friday night's "Rumble in the Bullring" at Eagle (Neb.) Raceway.
On the start, Boespflug shot to the lead from the pole position, sliding up in front of fellow front row starter Isaac Chapple at the flag stand, occupying the high line into turn one. Chapple, the top-rookie in series points, fought back on the bottom of the back straightaway to take the lead from Boespflug.
As the frontrunners came out of turn four, Chapple was in the middle of a three-wide sandwich, just barely nipping Mellenberndt (inside) and Boespflug (outside) to lead the initial lap of the 30-lap feature. The lead was short-lived, however, as Boespflug would carry the momentum from the outside to retake the top spot on the second lap.
On the third circuit, third-running Stockon got squirrely through turn two, sliding sideways down the back straightaway as he wrestled to regain control of his machine. Max McGhee, with no place to go, plowed into the left side of Stockon's car. The two came to a stop, bringing out the race's first yellow. While both would require a visit to the work area in the pits, both would return to action.
Shortly after the restart, two drivers in a position to solidify their best result of their respective seasons - Chapple and Mellenberndt - waged war for second on lap six. Mellenberndt snuck his nose underneath Chapple at the exit of turn four, but Chapple's left rear tire ramped over the right front tire of Mellenberndt, send Mellenberndt with a collapsed front end straight up to the outside wall as C.J. Leary nailed the front end of Mellenberndt's stopped car.
Meanwhile, Robert Ballou, while trying to avoid getting caught in the incident, veered left to steer away from contact. Just behind Ballou was Landon Simon, who ramped over the left side wheels of Ballou, sending him into a wild series of flips down the front straightaway. He was uninjured.
By lap seven, seventh-place starter and previous night's feature winner Brady Bacon had become a player, soaring around the outside of Chapple for second in turn two. Thirteenth place starter Dave Darland also got by the fading Chapple for third on the topside a half-lap later.
Three laps later, Darland, a two-time USAC Sprint Car winner at Eagle, made a bid for second on the bottom of turn two past Bacon, securing the post down the back stretch.
Bacon would remain within arm's length of Darland as the two closed the gap on leader Boespflug throughout the middle-stages of the race. An intense three-car clash between the three ensued, but was put to rest after the red flag was displayed for a Brandon Stevenson tumble on lap 15.
On the restart, Boespflug was able to put his car anywhere he pleased, maintaining his unique line lap-after-lap, running the bottom of turns one and two and up on the cushion in turns three and four.
On lap 17, Chris Windom and Thomas Meseraull became entangled coming off the fourth turn. Meseraull vaulted over Windom's left side wheels and landed on the sidewalls of his own left side tires while Windom was sent into a 360 degree spin. Though Windom continued on without coming to a stop, by rule, he had to restart from the tail of the field.
With Bacon glued to the bottom side of the racetrack and Darland up top, Bacon was able to grab the second spot for good with ten to go. However, Boespflug rode off into the distance, leading with a half-straight advantage with two-thirds of the race's story already written.
A lap 24 caution for McGhee's meeting with a turn three infield tire set up a six-lap shootout between Boespflug, Bacon and Darland. The Hoffman 69 came alive with Bacon at the controls in the final laps as he ran the short way around while Boespflug rode the fence.
With three to go, Bacon reached into his bag of tricks, briefly swapping lines to mimic Boespflug's tracks on the high-side of turns three and four before returning to the bottom one lap later.
Heading toward the final two turns on the final lap, Bacon appeared to edge slightly ahead of Boespflug between turns three and four, but Boespflug had the momentum, rocketing down the hill out of turn four toward the finish line to take the victory by 0.363 of a second for his third victory of the year, thereby quadrupling his USAC win total in the first four months of the 2016 season.
Rounding out the top-five behind Boespflug were Bacon, Darland, Meseraull and Ballou.
Boespflug's Eagle victory joins his "#LetsRaceTwo" Eldora Speedway victory back in May and his recent "Eastern Storm" triumph at New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway on his USAC resume this season. Boespflug led the final 29 laps in his NineEight Motorsports-EZR/Creative Finishing - Midwest Shades/Maxim/Claxton.
"I felt really comfortable ripping the top in (turns) three and four and I took my time up there on the last lap," Boespflug explained. "I could see Brady down there, but I knew I was getting a good run off of turn four. I tried to just start slowing down and making sure I hit my marks. We're kind of hit-and-miss right now, so we're working on a balance. These bigger, high-banked tracks seem to be to our liking right now, so if we can get the flatter tracks figured out we'll be good to go."
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma's Bacon earned his series-leading 13th top-five finish in 19 starts, taking second at the checkered in his Dynamics, Inc./Mean Green - Lykins Oil/Triple X/Williams Mopar and extending his point lead to 51 over Meseraull in the standings heading into back-to-back nights Saturday and Sunday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.
"The last five laps, somebody had hit the infield tire and knocked it out onto the track and that hurt me going into (turn) three because I couldn't stay on the bottom all the way around the other end," Bacon said. "I moved up the last few laps and started catching the crumbs and I wish I would've tried that a lap earlier because I almost got him at the checkered. Chad never messed up too bad, even though the track was tricky tonight. It was fun, though, to get to move around and get to run the top and bottom. We survived the bumper cars at the beginning and kept our momentum rolling."
Lincoln, Indiana's Dave Darland was the victor of the two most recent USAC Sprint races at Eagle in 2014 and 2015. On Friday night, Dave was in the hunt once again throughout the duration of the event, taking third at the finish in his Jeff Walker-Curb-Agajanian Racing/Jam-It-In Storage - Hoosier Tire/Maxim/Claxton.
"We were good early around the top and gained a lot of spots that way," Darland recalled. "The track was slick, so a lot of places you had to be easy on the throttle and try to hit the cushion at the right spot to carry enough speed. Those guys were getting off both corners really well, but we did what we could and we're happy with a podium."

Pittman Returns to Victory Lane at Jackson Motorplex
Scores fifth win of 2016 in the series’ first trip to the track since 2014
JACKSON, Minn. - June 24, 2016 - 2013 World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series champion, Daryn Pittman, started on the pole position and captured the lead from Joey Saldana on lap two, then held off a hard-charging Kerry Madsen on a green-white-checkered finish to score his fifth victory of the season at Jackson Motorplex on Friday night.
Pittman, who also claimed the quick-time award and dash victory to complete the sweep of the night, joined 20-time series champion, Steve Kinser, and seven-time series champion, Donny Schatz, as the only drivers to win multiple races at Jackson after he also won in 2005.
"I wouldn't say winning twice makes you good at a place," Pittman said. "They don't call him "Mad Man" for nothing. He's earned his nickname and you know he is going to give it everything he's got to try and get by you.
"I felt like I had a pretty good green flag lap up until coming back for the white. I slipped up a little bit in one and two and I thought I could hear him on my outside exiting two - I don't know if he was there or not, but it sounded like he was pretty close."
Pittman looked to be cruising to an easy victory until a caution with just two laps remaining brought Madsen, in the Keneric Healthcare/American Racing Wheels No. 29, to the leader's rear bumper. Madsen tried everything he could to wrestle the victory from Pittman in a green-white-checkered finish, but settled for a second-place finish following a last lap duel.
"I had such a good restart on that final one," Madsen said. "I knew I had one shot so I ripped it in there wide open, never lifted, and it caught and cut the front on me and I lost a little bit of time.
"It just wasn't enough. Everything was going to have to be absolutely perfect to get the job done. But it was a heck of a run - I couldn't have drove any harder, so it was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it."
Pittman, in the Great Clips/Sage Fruit No. 9, flashed speed early and often, as he paced qualifying with a lap of 15.746 seconds to claim his sixth quick time of the season. Pittman continued his early night success with a victory in his heat race to earn admittance into the dash.
As if he needed it, Pittman received a lucky break when a dash inversion of zero was drawn, which kept him on the pole position for the six-lap race. Pittman led every lap to capture the dash victory and the pole position for the 30-lap feature.
When the green flag dropped, second-place starter Saldana rocketed around Pittman for the lead on the opening lap. Saldana, who claimed the most recent victory at Jackson in 2014, led the first lap, but did not hold on to the top spot for long. On lap two, Pittman surged back to the front of the field and reclaimed the lead.
Saldana remained glued to the leader's bumper, but following cautions on lap 10 and 15, Pittman appeared to have an easy control on the top spot.
By the halfway point in the race, Madsen, who started in the 12th position, had climbed to the sixth spot. With a little over 10 laps remaining, Madsen was in the second position with the leader in his crosshairs.
Madsen, who has found victory lane twice this year with the World of Outlaws when he swept the #LetsRaceTwo events at Eldora Speedway on May 6 and 7, caught a lucky break of his own when a caution came out on lap 20.
When the race restarted, following an open red flag that allowed teams to refuel their cars for the final dash to the finish, Madsen was challenged by David Gravel for the second position, which allowed Pittman to escape his pursuers.
Pittman appeared to be cruising to the $10,000 prize until a caution came out on lap 29, which set up a shootout to the finish.
On the final restart, Madsen started just behind Pittman and quickly charged to his outside in turn one. Pittman held strong and kept his car out front, but he had one more lap to hold off the "Mad Man."
Madsen tried everything he could on the final lap to throw Pittman off his line, but in the end, the Owasso, Okla. -native held on to the lead and scored the victory.
"I know [Kerry] Madsen and [David] Gravel were throwing everything they had at us tonight," Pittman added. "Hats off to this whole Great Clips crew, they have been working their tails off. I felt like we have been in a slump this last month - we have been fast but have had things happen... but it's a long season and I'm glad we could get a win.
"It feels like it's been a long time since we have been here. Our car is fast and I am looking forward to tomorrow, [Beaver Dam Raceway] is one of my favorite tracks on the schedule and I have a pretty good record there, and really looking forward to that one."
Madsen captured the KSE Hard Charger Award after started the feature in the 12th position and finished in second, his 10th top-five finish of the season on a limited schedule.
"I was thinking if I could stay up there and keep my tires warm, we would be golden when we got to traffic, but it didn't quite happen," Madsen said. "That's just racing and I am just glad we went fast."
Finishing third, Shane Stewart, in the American Born Moonshine/Eneos Oil No. 2, returned to the podium following a seventh-place finish at I-80 Speedway on Wednesday night.
"I'm pleased [with how things are going]," Stewart said. "I'm just really shocked we ran third tonight, to be honest. We really didn't have a third-place car, but we just had a really restart that one time and that saved us.
"My guys continue to work hard and we're okay. We keep winning races and we have some big races coming up, and hopefully we can win some of those too. I have to thank Justin [Marks] and Kyle [Larson] for the great opportunity, and all of our great sponsors that help us, and all of the great fans that came out tonight."

Jackson, Minnesota - June 23, 2016 - Brady Bacon held off a hard-charging Robert Ballou as the two sliced and diced their way through lapped traffic during the final laps to take the victory in the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars' first visit to the Jackson (Minn.) Motorplex in 28 years.
With the victory, the legendary Hoffman Auto Racing team crossed the century mark in total USAC Sprint Car feature victories (95 National, 2 Midwest, 3 Special Event).
Outside front-row starter Bacon, driving for the winningest team in USAC Sprint Car history - Hoffman Auto Racing - staged alongside the series' winningest driver, Dave Darland, at the start of the 30-lapper.
As the green flag dropped, it was Darland who jumped out front, sliding up in front of Bacon at the entrance of one, but Bacon was never out of reach as he shadowed Darland throughout much of the first half of the event.
On the tenth lap, Darland was beginning to feel the pressure from Bacon. Darland cut low into three, barely squeaking underneath the lapped car of Brandon Halverson, briefly gapping Bacon.
Meanwhile, third-running Ballou became a formidable player in this high-stakes game of speed, chomping at the bit as he ate away at the interval between himself and the two frontrunners.
On lap 14, backmarkers Brandon Stevenson and Joe Bares were running in close quarters with nary a car-length between the two heading into the third turn. With a small window of real estate available between the Stevenson and Bares, Darland shot the gap, splitting between the two while sliding from the bottom berm up to the cushion at the exit of turn four. That allowed Bacon, running the bottom, to maintain his momentum as he shot down the front straightaway and into turn one and rocketing off turn two with the race lead in his hands with 16 laps remaining.
With 20 laps in the books, Ballou cleared Darland with a mammoth turn one slider to take second. Now, it was just Ballou and Bacon, two of USAC's best when it comes to sprint cars on half-mile dirt tracks. However, the two were both bad fast and it would take a handful of obstacles to slow down Bacon's mission. Therein came lapped traffic.
Ballou laid down the fastest lap of his race on lap 23 as he lurked in the distance, inching closer to Bacon's rear bumper as he hustled his number one on the outside.
Mired in heavy lap traffic in the final five laps, Bacon and Ballou crept upon gridlock as a logjam of cars ran two and, at times, three-wide, making wading through the back of the field treacherous.
With three to go, Bacon was able to slash around the lapped car of Landon Simon, but Ballou got hung up behind Simon exiting the fourth turn. Ballou made contact with the rear bumper of Simon exiting the corner, sending Simon into a half-spin before regaining control as Ballou went on by. Subsequently, Ballou lost substantial ground to Bacon with just a couple to go, and was, thus, out of time.
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma's Bacon put a stamp on his second series win of the season, lapping up to eighth place in his Dynamics, Inc./Mean Green - Lykins Oil/Triple X/Williams Mopar, beating Ballou, Chase Stockon, C.J. Leary and Darland while also maintaining and increasing his lead in the standings to 47 points over sixth place finisher Thomas Meseraull.
"The pace slowed up so much on the top and bottom once we hit the lapped traffic," Bacon explained. "I knew I could sneak around them on the bottom in (turns) one and two, but I was nervous that he'd run the top and get a run on me. Thankfully, we were good enough off the bottom of turn two that we could still hold him off. I'm just glad to get a win for these Hoffman guys. We had a stretch where we were in a little slump, but we've gotten the ball rolling here lately and it feels good to get back on track. I love tracks like this; the big, fast, heavy tracks. Robert and I used to race like this a lot at the old "Ron Shuman Classic" at Lakeside, so it was fun to race with him again for a win."
After stumbling through a stretch of the season, Ballou, of Rocklin, California, seems to have righted the ship of late, securing his eighth straight top-10 finish with a fine second place effort at Jackson in his Ballou Motorsports/Blakesley Auto - Rossie Feed & Grain/Maxim/Ott.
"We were a tick too tight and the track didn't go away like we thought it would," Ballou said. "I think we had a better racecar, but I made a couple silly mistakes and the Hoffman guys had their car dialed. It's been a rough go for our team lately and we've torn a lot of stuff up, so it's good to have a solid run tonight."
ProSource Fast Qualifier Chase Stockon of Fort Branch, Indiana put the 32-TBI Racing/Superior Tank & Trailer - Crescent Electric Supply/DRC/Fisher atop the speed charts early in the evening and finished off the night by rounding out the podium with a solid 3rd place finish.
"Brady and Robert were really good in traffic and just in general," Stockon acknowledged. "I could catch them, but it was always at the wrong times. We're happy with a third. We're normally not the best on tracks like this, so we feel like we have the car pretty comfortable right now and I could put it about anywhere. We've worked really hard on this thing all year to get it to go and I feel like we're finally there."

CHRIS ALLEN BECOMES FIRST REPEAT WINNER OF THE SEASON – BESTS FIELD AT BRIDGEPORT

BRIDGEPORT, NJ June 18, 2016 ... In front of a very packed grandstands, filled with seasoned race fans as well as many newcomers who had the opportunity to check out South Jersey’s best kept secret on PACK THE HOUSE NIGHT at Bridgeport Speedway, Chris Allen dominated the twenty lap Hilborn Fuel Injection Tri-State Racesaver Series feature event, making him the first repeat winner of the 2016 season. Allen, who won his first feature of the year at New Egypt on May 28th, also earned an “ace” card that goes towards his chances of winning the Tanner Brother’s Dairy Farm/Thayer Performance Poker Series at the year’s end.
“I was nervous that tonight was going to turn into a repeat of what happened the first time we were at Bridgeport this year,” Allen explained of his misfortune at the Super Speedway back in late April, when he lost his lead late race due to engine issues, handing a feature win to Kevin Nagy. “I swear I heard someone coming up behind me, but I guess it was my headphones or just all in my head. We were really good in clean air, we just have to get a little bit better in traffic”.
Setting the pace of twenty-three cars, it was Allen and rookie Logan Diehl who led the field to the green flag. From that moment on, Allen showed his dominance, taking the front runner spot and never looking back. After reaching lapped traffic, Mark Bitner, who started in back in fifth, made some early moves earlier in the race to get up to second a little after the midway point. Without any cautions however, Bitner was unable to catch the E.H. Allen Trucking number 71 of Allen, and at the checkered flag it would be Allen, Bitner, Diehl, Rick Stief and Jeff Geiges, who started in tenth to make his way up to fifth, rounding out the top five.
“I really wanted to win here that night that we broke, because it would have been four years to the date from when I won my first and last race here at Bridgeport,” remembers Chris. “But the biggest goal, for the longest time in my life, and any drivers life I’m sure, is to get at least one win a year. And this is the first time since I’ve won more than one race in a season since Quarter Midgets, so it’s pretty cool to be able to start off our year so strong, and I can only hope that the second half will be this good as well”.
With it being a Poker Series event, Thayer Performance presented the hard charger, Dave Brown Jr., with the “Burning Rubber Bonus” courtesy of Hoosier Racing Tire. Brown advanced seven positions, after starting in 19th and finishing in 12th. Along with the brand new Hoosier Racing right-rear Racesaver Spec tire, Brown also earned the Bruce’s Auto Body $25 addition cash bonus for his hard charging efforts.
Drivers who received the Top Three Hilborn Fuel Injection cash bonuses were Chris Allen, Mark Bitner and Logan Diehl. Hilborn Fuel Injection, the TSRS series sponsor, will present a cash bonus of $50, $35, and $25 to the top three finishing cars each week, only if they are running Hilborn Injection Systems. If a driver finishes in the top three, and they do not have Hilborn’s on their motor, that position’s bonus payout will roll over in the next week.
This weekend, the Tri State Racesaver Series will have a “Double Header” race weekend, where they will be back at Bridgeport Speedway this Friday Night and then Grandview Speedway Inc. on Saturday. Kyle Larson Earns Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket Victory at Atomic Speedway,
First repeat winner of the week
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (June 22, 2016) - Kyle Larson earned his second Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket victory of 2016 during round six on Wednesday evening, June 22, at Atomic Speedway. Larson used traffic to his advantage to garner the win, taking command over race leader Sheldon Haudenschild on lap 21. From there, the Elk Grove, California, native cruised ahead and led the last ten circuits to score the $5,000 top prize. It was a fourth career Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions victory for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star, his first at Atomic Speedway. Larson is the first repeat winner of the 34th edition of Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket.
“My crew has been working their tails off all week,” said Kyle Larson. “Paul Silva actually found some things wrong with our car and fixed them overnight. It really made a world of difference. I can’t thank him enough for allowing me to come out here and have some fun this week. It’s pretty cool to come out here and be competitive against a field like this.”
Kyle Larson started third on the feature grid, maintaining third in the running order at the completion of lap one. After surviving a four lap battle with Tim Shaffer for the third spot, Larson moved on and started his chase toward the front.
By lap 14, Larson worked around Cole Duncan for second, utilizing the high side of turns one and turn and the low side of turns three and four. Heavy traffic started to come into play for race leader Sheldon Haudenschild by lap 18, allowing Larson to close a near two second gap. Larson made his winning move on lap 21, driving under the Wooster, Ohio, native near the apron of turn three. Despite heavy pressure by Cole Duncan, Sheldon Haudenschild held on to finish second, followed by Duncan, Tim Shaffer, and Randy Hannagan.
“I honestly didn’t think I’d be up here as a winner tonight” explained Kyle Larson in victory lane. “I can’t thank you fans enough for coming out tonight. That race was a lot of fun. We were really fast all night long and the track really gets good when it widens out and slicks off like that. I was able to get by Sheldon there in traffic. The track was starting to take a little bit of rubber. I was able to find it before Sheldon (Haudenschild). Happy to be back here in victory lane. Already excited to return.”
Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket will continue with round seven on Friday evening, June 24, at the Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio. The high paced quarter-mile will kick off the final weekend of Ohio Sprint Speedweek competition for the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, ending officially on Saturday night, June 25, at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Limaland did not host an Ohio Sprint Speedweek event during the 2015 season, losing a battle to Mother Nature.
Limaland Motorsports Park will open gates at 4:00 pm on Friday night, June 24. The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions drivers meeting will be conducted at 6, followed by hot laps at 6:30. About the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions:
All Star Enterprises, LLC, wholly owned by Tony Stewart, d/b/a the All Star Circuit of Champions, is a winged sprint car series. The All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series is one of the oldest traveling 410 sprint car organizations and is a staple of grassroots, open-wheel racing. Formed in 1970 by Bud Miller, the series has largely been considered the first 'outlaw' Sprint Car organization of the modern era. After a 10 year stint as owner of the All Stars, Miller passed control of the series to Bert Emick in 1980; a reign that would continue through 2002. Guy Webb then purchased the series from Emick in the summer of 2002 and served as the series President for the next 12 years. Motorsports entrepreneur Tony Stewart agreed to terms with Guy Webb to become the sole owner of the original winged sprint car tour in January of 2015.
