STOCKON IN LINE TO EQUAL CONSECUTIVE USAC SPRINT START RECORD AT KOKOMO

Kokomo, Indiana (August 20, 2019).........One of the ultimate ironman streaks is on the line for Chase Stockon as he prepares to equal the series' most consecutive starts streaks this week during Sprint Car Smackdown VIII at Aug. 22-24 at Kokomo Speedway.
Stockon (Fort Branch, Ind.) has made 281 consecutive USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car feature starts since 2012. If all were to go in accordance with his plans and he qualifies for the feature on all three nights of Smackdown, he would tie the mark on Saturday of 284-straight starts in the series, set by five-time series champ Levi Jones between 2004 and 2012.
Stockon would then be in line to set the new standard of 285-straight feature starts with the series on Friday, Aug. 30, in the River Town Showdown at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill.
During Stockon's streak, he's accumulated 12 feature victories, which are tied with Eric Gordon for 45th all-time. Stockon's 27 fast qualifying times during the streak rank 12th all-time, tied with Dave Steele.
To put Stockon's consecutive starts streak into perspective, only eight times in the 64-year history of USAC has a driver put together 100 or more starts in a row. Jones, of course, right now is tops with 284, followed by Stockon at 281. Dave Darland has done it twice, putting together 204 consecutive starts between 2012-17 and 106 between 2004-2008. Brady Bacon had 147 from 2013-17. Damion Gardner had 126 between 2008 and 2012. Tracy Hines made feature starts in 123-straight between 2009 and 2012.
Chris Windom is one of those eight occasions as well, accumulating 132-straight starts since the 2016 season to hold the second longest active streak of starts. Justin Grant and Tyler Courtney stand at 98 starts in-a-row since the beginning of the 2017 season and would become the newest members of the exclusive 100-club if they compete in both Thursday and Friday night's feature events at Kokomo. Kevin Thomas, Jr. stands at 96 and could hit the 100-straight start mark in Granite City at the end of August.
The racing festivities at Kokomo first get underway on Wednesday, August 21, with #GYATK Night, a USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car non-points Special Event in honor of the late, great Bryan Clauson, winner of the first Smackdown in 2012. Admission is FREE for all racefans. Driver pit passes are also all FREE courtesy of AllStar Performance. All gates open at 3pm Eastern, draw closes at USAC trailer at 6:10pm, drivers meeting in front grandstands at 6:15pm and cars on track at 6:30pm.
For the first two nights of Smackdown on Thursday, August 22 and Friday, August 23, all gates open at 3pm Eastern with cars on track at 6:45pm. Adult general admission tickets are $25 and children age 12 and under free. Pit passes are $35 apiece. 3-day advance reserved: $80.00, call 815-468-8690 for tickets. Advanced tickets sales will end on 8/19, after 8/19 3-day tickets can be purchased at the ticket window on race night for $85.00.
On the final night of Smackdown on Saturday, August 24, all gates open at 3pm Easter with cars on track at 6pm. Adult general admission tickets are $35 and children age 12 and under free. Pit passes are $45 apiece. The Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series will also be on the event card.
All three nights of Smackdown, in addition to #GYATK Night, will be shown live and on-demand on FloRacing. You can listen to live audio of each night on the USAC app and follow along with live timing and scoring on the Race-Monitor app as well as the USAC app.

TONY STEWART’S ALL STAR SPRINTS & NASCAR MODIFIED DOUBLE HEADER AT GRANDVIEW THURSDAY NIGHT, BLANEY HOLDS TEN POINT LEAD OVER REUTZEL
BECHTELSVILLE, PA – Tony Stewart’s Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car series will invade the Grandview Speedway Thursday night, August 22 joining the NASCAR Modifieds in this always popular Double Header. This event is part of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series celebrating its’ thirtieth season at the one-third mile high banked oval. Event sponsor, Levan Machine and Truck Equipment out of Fleetwood, PA will be a big part of the event festivities.
A heated point chase is underway for the All Star Circuit of Champions title with Dale Blaney of Hartford, OH holding a ten point advantage over Aaron Reutzel of Clute, TX. Reutzel is the defending winner of the 2018 Thunder on the Hill All Star sprint event. Cory Eliason of Visalia, CA is third in points followed by Paul McMahan and local Jonestown, PA driver Brock Zearfoss is fifth in the point battle. Locals expected to chase the All Star win include Danny Dietrich, Ryan Smith, Freddie and Brandon Rahmer, Mark Smith, Ryan Taylor, Kyle Moody and JJ Grasso to name a few.
Local favorite Ryan Smith owns eight career wins with the All Stars but is still looking for that first Thunder on the Hill win at Grandview. Smith and others will be looking for this win as they chase the prestigious Hodnett Cup, an actual trophy of Greg Hodnett that annually will honor one of the all-time greats in sprint car racing. Hodnett, a nine time winner and six time Thunder Series Champion at Grandview Speedway lost his life in a racing mishap in September of 2018 in Central Pennsylvania.
Joining the All Star Sprints will be the popular NASCAR 358 Modifieds in this always popular double-header. Jeff Strunk is the winningest driver in Thunder on the Hill history and he will be challenged by Craig VonDohren, Duane Howard, Mike Gular, Rick Laubach, Brett Kressley and Doug Manmiller just to name a few. The modifieds will complete in a series of qualifying events leading up to the 30 lap, $3,000 to win feature event.
Tickets for Thursday, August 22 are $30 for adults, $10 for children age 6 to 11, and free for kids under 6. Pit admission is $35 and no license is required. Advanced ticket holder can access the general admission seating at 4:30 PM, thirty minutes before tickets go on sale.
Advanced tickets are available by calling 443-513-4456. Guests may pick-up their tickets and pay for them the night of the event after 3:30 PM. Please leave a message with your name, and the number of tickets you are requesting.
Grandstand gates open at 5:00 PM, with racing starting at 7:30 PM.
Greg Hodnett collected nine Thunder on the Hill Racing Series wins at the Grandview Speedway – sitting third on the all-time win list. The winner of the event will be photographed with the Hodnett Cup -- fabricated from one of Greg’s many trophies, a base was added where names of future event winners will be engraved. As a perpetual trophy, it will be available on race day for Victory Lane celebration, the winner’s name will be added along with the event date, and the trophy will be on display year-round at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing at the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds.

Aaron Reutzel scores seventh All Star victory of 2019 with wire-to-wire performance at Plymouth
PLYMOUTH, Ind. (August 18, 2019) - After a frustrating outing one night prior that ultimately resulted in a ‘DNF’ finish, Clute, Texas’ Aaron Reutzel redeemed himself completely during his Saturday night stay at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Indiana, and secured his seventh Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory of the 2019 season; his first since Utica-Rome Speedway in mid-July.
A convincing victory to say the least, Reutzel led every lap of the 30-lap program at the Plymouth short track, utilizing patience to maneuver through periods of heavy lapped traffic all while holding off a fast closing Brock Zearfoss, as well as an eighth starting Greg Wilson. The $5,000 triumph also allowed Reutzel to chop into Dale Blaney’s championship points lead, cutting the advantage down to ten markers. Blaney entered the evening with a 26-point advantage, all of which built from Reutzel’s ‘DNF’ result at I-96 Speedway.
“Top, bottom, middle; we were comfortable all over tonight. That’s something we have been working really hard on,” Aaron Reutzel said in Plymouth Speedway victory lane, driver of the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports/Folkens Brothers Trucking/Fischer Body Shop/Dissolvalloy/No. 87 sprint car. “It was one hell of a team effort tonight. I’m just thankful that my group of guys have stuck behind me.”
Although the Texan was able to control every circuit of the 30-lap main event, Reutzel was never completely on his own. In fact, a blanket could have been thrown over the top four during the midpoint of the main event, a pattern that continued for nearly five circuits. Reutzel eventually escaped into traffic, but Zearfoss, who drove into second from fourth with a bold move through turns one and two on lap nine, remained persistent.
The final four circuits saw the battle between Reutzel and Zearfoss intensify yet again. With slower cars bunching up two and three wide ahead of the leader, Reutzel was forced to check up which allowed Zearfoss to close the gap to a car length by the two-to-go signal.
Solidifying his place on top of the podium, Reutzel perfected a slider through turns one and two to place a slower car between himself and Zearfoss on the final lap. The move worked, allowing Reutzel to cruise home ahead of Zearfoss, Greg Wilson, Gerard McIntryre, and Justin Peck.
“I felt like I was ok through the first set of lapped cars, then I got to a group that I absolutely did not want to have to lap. I was actually praying for a caution so I didn’t have to work around them,” Aaron Reutzel continued. “I was a little timid in traffic tonight, for sure. I didn’t want to get knocked out.”
The All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their 2019 campaign with a four-pack in the Keystone State; four events in four days across much of Posse Country. The four-day invasion of Central Pennsylvania will ignite on Thursday evening, August 22, at the always-racey Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania. Action will move to the historic Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg on Friday, August 23, followed by a visit to the ‘Fabulous’ Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown on Saturday, August 24. The weekend will conclude on Sunday, August 25, at BAPS Motor Speedway near York Haven.
The events at Grandview Speedway, Lincoln Speedway and BAPS Motor Speedway will each award $5,000 top prizes. The format at Williams Grove Speedway will feature twin main events, each awarding $4,000 paydays.
In addition, MAVTV Motorsports Network, the official television home of the All Star Circuit of Champions in 2019, will be on hand to capture action from Grandview, Williams Grove and Lincoln. All three programs will be broadcast via tape-delay on October 13, October 20 and October 27, respectively.

Cory Eliason gets by Dale Blaney to score All Star victory at I-96 Speedway
LAKE ODESSA, Mich (August 17, 2019) - Utilizing finesse, patience, and other's misfortune, Visalia, California's Cory Eliason earned his second Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory of the 2019 season on Friday night at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan. The $5,000 triumph, his first since scoring a monster payday at Virginia Motor Speedway at the beginning of the points schedule, was accomplished from the outside of row three, eventually taking command on lap 19 and holding off a championship contending Dale Blaney, as well as Premier Motorsports' Justin Peck, at the end of 30 circuits.
"We just kept getting better and better as the feature went on," Cory Eliason expressed, driver of the Rudeen Racing No. 26 entry. "Things went our way tonight and we were able to capitalize. It feels great to be standing out here."
Starting from the outside-pole position, Clute, Texas’ Aaron Reutzel earned the early jump, blasting off to a near-straightaway lead with just three circuits knocked off the scoreboard. A caution on lap four slowed the pace early, and although the initial caution left little effect on the running order, it was the caution on lap eight that left the front-runners in a tangle.
As race leader Aaron Reutzel was attempting to check-up for spinning car at the exit of turn two, Gio Scelzi, who was battling in the second position, made contact with Reutzel’s rear bumper sending the California-native out over the edge of turn two and ultimately upside-down. As a result, Aaron Reutzel was forced to go to the work area; both drivers would not return.
With Reutzel and Gio Scelzi out of the picture, it was Hartford, Ohio’s Dale Blaney who inherited the top spot, now with Eliason and Skylar Gee in tow.
Traffic eventually found its way into the picture by lap 14 creating a sudden roadblock for Blaney. As traffic intensified, so did Eliason’s pressure on the leader. By lap 17, Blaney’s advantage was scraped down to a car length, stuck behind slower cars with Eliason continuing to breath down his neck. The following circuit, Eliason made a big bid for the lead, nearly getting under Blaney as the duo battled off of turn four to complete lap 18. It only took Eliason one more lap to turn his near-takeover attempt into an official lead change, recreating his dive through turns three and four to successfully drive by the six-time All Star champion.
From that point forward, it was all Eliason at the front of the field, leading the final 12 circuits to score his second victory of the 2019 season. A caution with four laps remaining gave Eliason a stir, but Blaney and Justin Peck, who slipped into a podium spot from 11th just beyond halfway, was no match for the Rudeen Racing entry.
Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their march through Michigan and Indiana with a one night stand at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Indiana, on Saturday, August 17. Like their trek to Michigan one night prior, the trip to the Hoosier State will be a first and only for the traveling All Stars in 2019.
Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Indiana, will open pit gates at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 17. A mandatory All Star drivers meeting will take shape at 5:30 p.m., followed by hot laps at 6:30 p.m., sharp. Those wanting to learn more should visit Plymouth Speedway online at www.plymouthspeedway.net.

BACK TO BUSINESS: Schatz claims championship advantage with River Cities victory
North Dakota’s Donny Schatz wins in home state, takes points lead
GRAND FORKS, ND – Aug. 16 – Unreal. That’s how North Dakota-native Donny Schatz described his World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series home state win Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D.
“It feels good,” said Schatz with a heavy exhale of air.
Unreal traditionally has one meaning. For the 10-time Series champion it had many.
He claimed first home state win of the year with the World of Outlaws – eighth of the season and 291st overall. He swept the night winning in his Sprint Car and NLRA Late Model. And he reclaimed the points lead over Brad Sweet – now leading the Kasey Kahne Racing driver by 24 points.
The word could also define his path to the victory.
Schatz’s second-place finish in his Drydene Heat race put him into the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, which didn’t go as planned. He started fifth and finished in sixth-place – last.
He and his Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team tried something different for the Dash, he said. It didn’t work. They tried something else for the Feature, and it did.
Once the Feature went green, polesitter David Gravel, coming off his recent Knoxville Nationals victory, shot to the lead over second-place Brad Sweet. Schatz immediately went to fifth on the first lap.
Before the leaders could make their way around turn three the red flag was thrown and the race went into an Open Red. Nick Omdahl hit the wall coming off turn four, which bounced his car inches off the ground, and with help from another car, put his front end into the fence near the flag stand. It took 26 minutes to get his car untangled from the fence and repair the spot he hit.
Once the race went back green, Gravel again bolted to the lead. Schatz lost fifth-place to Sheldon Haudenschild and Mark Dobmeier looked underneath him in turn three to take sixth. But with a power move around the high side Schatz made a three-wide pass around Haudenschild and Dobmeier to reclaim fifth-place.
Gravel’s quick pace around the 3/10-mile track put him in lap traffic by Lap six. Behind him, Sweet and Logan Schuchart – who won at River Cities Speedway in June – battled for second. The two traded slide jobs, arguing over who would be second. Sweet lost the fight coming off turn two, hitting the cushion, bicycling, and allowing Schuchart to charge by.
Schatz also took advantage of Sweet’s fumble. Continuing to make ground on the high side, Schatz rocketed his Toco Warranty No. 15 around Daryn Pittman for fourth-place and then Sweet for third in turns three and four. Sweet didn't let him get away, though.
On the exit of the next corner, Schatz and a lapped car almost collided, drastically slowing his pace and allowing Sweet to move back to third. While the top two in points tried to navigate lapped traffic, Haudenschild maneuvered around the slower cars like he placed them there to begin with. The Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing driver raced his way by Schatz and Sweet in one turn on Lap 12.
After bicycling off the cushion on the exit of turn two a few more times, Schatz eventually made his way back by Sweet for fourth-place.
Then, the second Open Red of the night on Lap 16. Contact with another car launched Brendan Mullen’s car off turn two and onto the top of the fence outside the turn. With Mullen OK and the car secure where it was – several feet away from the track – the race resumed.
When it did, Schatz made his “unreal” move. He went from fourth-place to second on the exit of the first corner, throttling around the top groove. He continued his power lust run down the back stretch, closing in on Gravel and diving underneath him in turn three, not knowing if the move would stick.
Once his right foot eased back on the throttle the answer quickly became “yes.” The traction was there. He went side by side with Gravel through turn four and drag raced him down the front stretch.
The reigning champion had the better grip, though. He outpowered the Jason Johnson Racing car to the flag stand and took the lead on Lap 17.
“I knew I was in a little bit of trouble with that red, but they said I had a decent lead,” Gravel said. “We tried to make the car a little bit better. You give Donny Schatz and his team two Open Reds to make their car better… he’s been dominating here for a long time. Obviously, his car wasn’t great earlier, and they made it a lot better. For us, we were in a position that we shouldn’t change too much because we’re in the lead. That’s the way it goes.”
However, Schatz said he and his team didn’t make any adjustments. He found his rhythm and ran a blistering pace for the remaining 23 laps. He weaved through traffic with ease, pulled away to a six second lead and lapped up to ninth-place – including Sweet, who finished 13th.
“Unreal,” said Schatz, after claiming his ninth win in the last 11 races at the speedway. “We had a plan from the word go to be good at the end. The track kind of came around to us. Not bad for a North Dakota boy and a South Dakota boy (Schatz’s crew chief Steve Swenson). I think that was an ass whooping there.”

ALL STAR 410 SPRINTS & NASCAR MODIFIEDS STORM THE HILL THURSDAY NIGHT, AUGUST 22 AS THUNDER ON THE HILL CONTINUES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA – On Thursday, August 22 the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car series returns to Grandview Speedway to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series.
Presented by Levan Machine and Truck Equipment, the Hodnett Cup combines the 410 Sprint Cars in their final 2019 Grandview Speedway appearance – and the NASCAR 358 Modifieds, in an exciting double-header. Gates open at 5:00 PM and racing starts at 7:30 PM.
While the Thursday night event marks the return of the 410 Sprint Cars, and the return of Tony Stewart’s All Star Series, it will also be the Grandview return of 410 racer Ryan Smith.
One of the most popular drivers among fans, ‘The Kunkletown Kid’ was sidelined after and early-July incident at the Selinsgrove Raceway – and consequently missed the Thunder on the Hill Speedweek event. Returning in fine form a few weeks later, Smith set second-fast time at his first event back and has racked up consistent top-10 finishes in subsequent weeks.
However, Smith is still searching for his first NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series win, after coming close multiple times. Most famously in 2017, when the driver challenged Kyle Larson for the top-spot before a late race attempted pass sent him flipping into turn three.
The August 22 event at Grandview is doubly important to the Kunkletown, PA racer. In late 2018, Smith was tapped to pilot the Mike Heffner-owned machine previously piloted by Greg Hodnett – the namesake of the event -- who died in a racing incident in Central Pennsylvania.
“Greg was one of my idols growing up,” Smith said in a team release announcing his hiring. “I have huge shoes to fill.”
Smith holds eight wins with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Stars, and hopes to lead the Red Robin Gourmet Burgers/Heffner Racing No. 72 machine to Grandview Speedway victory lane.
Tickets for Thursday, August 22 are $30 for adults, $10 for children age 6 to 11, and free for kids under 6. Pit admission is $35 and no license is required. Advanced ticket holder can access the general admission seating at 4:30 PM, thirty minutes before tickets go on sale.
Advanced tickets are available by calling 443-513-4456. Guests may pick-up their tickets and pay for them the night of the event after 3:30 PM. Please leave a message with your name, and the number of tickets you are requesting.
Grandstand gates open at 5:00 PM, with racing starting at 7:30 PM.
Greg Hodnett collected nine Thunder on the Hill Racing Series wins at the Grandview Speedway – sitting third on the all-time win list. The winner of the event will receive the Hodnett Cup -- fabricated from one of Greg’s many trophies, a base was added where names of future event winners will be engraved. As a perpetual trophy, it will be available on race day for Victory Lane celebration, the winner’s name will be added along with the event date, and the trophy will be on display year-round at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing at the Latimore Valley Fairgounds.

The All Stars return to action with doubleheader in Michigan and Indiana
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (August 14, 2019) - It has been nearly three weeks since Tony Stewart’s Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 participated in scheduled competition, but despite the break, the traveling aces are ready for action and will hit the road once again, this time setting aim on a doubleheader in Michigan and Indiana.
Led by defending All Star Circuit of Champions titleholder and current Series point leader, Aaron Reutzel, the traveling All Stars will kick-off the weekend on Friday night, August 16, with a visit to I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan. Not stopping there, the Series will venture roughly two and a half hours south for a one night stand at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Indiana, on Saturday, August 17. Incidentally, the visits to Michigan and Indiana, respectively, will be a first and only for Tony Stewart’s All Stars in 2019. In addition, each round will award $5,000 top prizes.
Joining Reutzel on the All Star campaign trail will be a stout contingent of Series full-timers including six-time champion and all-time Series win leader, Dale Blaney, who trails Reutzel by a mere-eight markers in the driver title chase. Rudeen Racing’s Cory Eliason will also be in attendance, as well as Paul McMahan, Brock Zearfoss, Greg Wilson, Gerard McIntyre, Skylar Gee, and George Hobaugh.
Although Series full-timers experienced a break from All Star commitments, most did not take any time off. In fact, the All Star Circuit of Champions were represented well during the 59th running of the Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, Iowa. Aaron Reutzel, Cory Eliason, and Paul McMahan each qualified for A-Main competition at Knoxville Raceway with Reutzel leading representation with a fifth place performance; Eliason and McMahan finished 13th and 20th, respectively.
Those unable to make the journey to I-96 Speedway and Plymouth Speedway can still watch every lap of action live from the comfort of their own home.
