THE 'NEW ENGLAND NIGHTMARE' KYLE SMITH BESTS THE MID-ATLANTIC SPRINT SERIES FIELD AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY THUNDER ON THE HILL THRILLER

PA Sprint Series regular Kyle Smith traveled four hours south to Bechtelsville, PA from his hometown of South Egremont, MA to win the twenty-five lap Delaware Auto Exchange Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series feature event at Grandview Speedway Inc. Saturday night.
Smith, who won at Grandview Speedway once before last season when visiting the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series, has now a total of seven victories to his name in 2018, making it a back to back weekend of winning after visiting victory lane last Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway for the first night of the Keystone RaceSaver Challenge weekend in Central Pennsylvania.
From his fourth starting position, Smith grabbed the top spot from early leader Jeff Geiges by lap 10, and after surviving multiple restarts with Geiges grabbing the lead back with two to go, Smith quickly regained his position and would go on to win the Thunder On The Hill Racing Series hosted event.
Three heat race wins, sponsored by Professional Design Services, Freiberger Excavating and Bruce's Auto Body, went to Jeff Geiges, Larry Mc Vay and Michael Haggenbottom. Heat winners were also awarded five gallons of fuel courtesy of Kelly Racing Fuels - the official fuel sponsor of the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series.
Twelve drivers were qualified in to the CRC Industries Brakleen redraw, with Dave Brown and Jeff Geiges pulling the pole positions, earning them the Engler Machine and Tool Front Row Award.
Scott R Frack made his come back to MASS after taking a few weeks off rebuilding an engine earned the Fred's Trailers hard charger award after advancing eleven positions from his 17th starting spot.
Ryan Stillwaggon took home the the Bitner Automotive Lightening Fast Time Award after having a 13.041 second lap time in heat number one.
Next up on the schedule is the finale at Georgetown Speedway on Saturday, October 27th - day two of the Mid-Atlantic Championship Weekend.

Brad Sweet Continues Career Year with Terre Haute Triumph
TERRE HAUTE, IN – October 13, 2018 – Brad Sweet’s added another page to his unforgettable 2018 season with a flag-to-flag victory at the historic Terre Haute Action Track, his ninth World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory of the year. Donny Schatz charged from 12th to second, getting by Tim Shaffer, who completed the podium, on the Green-White-Checkered finish.
Brad Sweet and Kasey Kahne Racing teammate Daryn Pittman put on a show on the final lap of the Sears Craftsman Dash finishing side-by-side. Sweet edged Pittman by 0.054 to earn the pole for the 30-Lap Feature.
Sweet powered to the lead on the initial start to lead the opening circuit and reached lapped traffic on Lap 9 at the spacious Indiana half-mile. Pittman and 2001 Terre Haute Outlaw winner Tim Shaffer were in tow.
At the halfway point, Donny Schatz had worked forward from his 12th-starting spot to sixth aboard the Tony Stewart Racing/Curb-Agajanian No.15. By lap 19, the nine-time Series Champion and current points leader had maneuvered to fourth.
Sweet continued to work his way through traffic as Schatz closed the gap on Pittman and Shaffer for the runner-up position.
Lap 27 saw Shaffer and Schatz get by Pittman for position down the backstretch and through turn three, respectively.
As the White Flag flew for Brad Sweet, he would not be caught, as he had multiple lapped cars between himself and Shaffer and Schatz, who were in a torrid battle for second.
It wouldn’t be that easy for the driver known as ‘The Big Cat’, however, as the caution flew for a stopped Ian Madsen as Sweet was about to take the Checkered.
The caution set up a single-file, Green, White, Checkered finish with Shaffer, who was ahead of Schatz at the last completed lap, in second and Schatz in third.
On the restart, Schatz quickly disposed of Shaffer in turn one and set his eyes on Sweet for his 20th victory of the season. Schatz closed the gap in each corner, but it wasn’t enough, as Sweet went on to win by .686 seconds.
When asked about the late restart, Brad Sweet chuckled and said with a smile, “Well, I’ve been getting used to it. Knoxville, Black Hills, Chico and Lernerville have all had late race restarts and sometimes it’s not bad to get a clean track. I think we were just good enough to hold these guys off tonight.”
“Lapped traffic was tricky. I think I made a few mistakes, but I guess I had a big enough lead,” Sweet said of the long Green Flag period to open the race, before thanking his NAPA Auto Parts crew for their continued hard work.
“Terre Haute is a special place. I’ve won a non-wing USAC race here, so it’s cool to come back here and win with the World of Outlaws,” the Grass Valley, CA native added.
Donny Schatz, who had passed Tim Shaffer for second on the final lap but had to go back to third for the Green-White-Checkered finish, was obviously disappointed to come up just short.
“We did what we could, the car was obviously rolling to get up there on an open race track. My guys did an incredible job, we wanted to get a win,” Schatz, who earned KSE Hard Charger honors for his efforts, said.
Tim Shaffer’s excellent 2018 season continued with a podium finish and he was pleased, “We had a great car, it kept coming in little by little as the race went on.”
Pittman settled for fourth with Sheldon Haudenschild charging from 15th to complete the top-five.
A week of rain and frigid temperatures had Terre Haute Action Track in unchartered territory during Qualifying, as 19 of the 32 cars signed in broke the existing track record set back in 1999. Brian Brown, who went out late, ended up establishing the new Terre Haute track record at 16.028, nearly a half-second faster than the existing record.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series continues its 40th Anniversary Season tomorrow evening at Eldora Speedway with an early start time. RYAN WATT OVERCOMES A TRAFFIC JAM TO WIN THUNDER FIRST; WHITMOYER AND SMITH CLAIM SPORTSMAN AND SPRINT CAR WINS
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (October 13, 2018) – It was a chilling fall night of racing when Boyertown, PA’s Ryan Watt scored the victory in the twenty-first running of the Modified Traffic Jam, the season finale of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series events at Grandview Speedway Saturday night. Watt has been haunted from winning a Thunder show for years, so how appropriate that his first win came in the Halloween House of Thunder event. Craig Whitmoyer and Kyle Smith claimed victories in the Sportsman and MASS Sprint Car Series events, as part of the thrilling three-division show.
“I can’t believe we won, I’ve tried to win a Thunder on the Hill Race so many times -- I finished second at the August race, and I’m glad to get one of these Thunder wins finally," an ecstatic Watt said in victory lane while surrounded by family, friends and crew members. His first win earned him $5,000 in a very lucrative payoff that offered $1,000 to finish tenth and $500 just to start the feature event.
Forty-six modifieds attempted to qualify for the big event and it was Ryan Watt who rolled off second in the 24-car starting line-up, alongside 2018 Grandview Speedway Modified Champion, Mike Gular. Watt won the drag race down the front stretch taking the top spot despite strong attempts from Gular. Battling for the lead, the top two dueled side-by-side for the initial stage of the race, followed by Frank Cozze and Kenny Gilmore.
Meanwhile, Craig VonDohren charged forward from an eighth-place start into the fifth position on lap 4, leading a train that included Jared Umbenhauer and Doug Manmiller.
The lead pack closed in on lapped cars by the tenth circuit, and the aptly named ‘Traffic Jam’ bunched the field with multiple two and three-wide battles. Relief came after a close call for the leaders when two cars tangled directly in front of them.
“Lapped Cars made things tricky tonight,” Watt said in victory lane. “You never know which way anyone is going to go and when they are side-by-side, it gets tricky.”
Opting for the outside lane on the restart, Watt left the door open for Gular, who pulled alongside challenging for the top spot. Jared Umbenhauer charged into the third on the restart and swapped the second position with Gular just two laps later.
Ryan Watt pulled away in the later stages of the 40-lap event, weaving in and out of slow traffic and maintaining the top spot as laps clicked off.
It was all Watt as the checkered flag waved, Mike Gular finished in second – holding off a late race charge from Jared Umbenhauer, who settled for third. Craig VonDohren finished in fourth, and Doug Manmiller finished in the fifth position.
Craig Whitmoyer claimed the victory in the 25-lap Sportsman event – his 13th Grandview Speedway victory. Mike Lisowski started on the outside pole and led the early stages of the race– but Lisowski was forced pitside on lap 15 when officials discovered missing right front lugnuts on his No. 15 machine. Brad Grim inherited the lead on the restart and lost the lead to Whitmoyer after a three-car battle for the top spot that also included Kevin Hirthler. A lap 22 yellow slowed the field for the final time and Whitmoyer engaged in a three-car race to the finish with just three circuits remaining. Whitmoyer held on for the win with Grim and Hirthler settling for second and third, respectively. Dean Bachman finished in fourth, and Kyle Kania finished in the fifth position.
Kyle Smith of Great Barrington, Massachusetts picked up the victory in the 25-lap Mid-Atlantic Sprint Car Series event, holding off Jeff Geiges and a slew of late race caution flags. Geiges of Hamilton, NJ took the early lead and led the initial eleven circuits before a lap 11 yellow slowed the field. With a double-file restart, Geiges opted to restart on the top side opening the door for Smith, who powered down the front stretch overtaking the top spot. Geiges slid inside Smith but couldn’t stick the attempted slide job. Geiges would settle for second, Ryan Stillwaggon finished in third, Jon Haegele coming home in fourth and Tyler Reinhardt rounding out the top 5 finishers.

HALLOWEEN PARTY & MODIFIED TRAFFIC JAM, SPORTSMAN & SPRINTS ON THE HILL SATURDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 13 6 PM
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (October 12, 2018) . . . . Be part of the Halloween Parade watch for Ghostly Ghouls and be part of the MODS at the MADHOUSE in a big night of Spooktacular racing on the “haunted hill” of Grandview Speedway Saturday night, October 13 for the finale of the 29th season of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series. The 358 Modifieds/Big Block modifieds will battle in the 21st running of the Traffic Jam, a 40 lap feature paying $5,000 to win, $1,000 for tenth and $500 to take the green for pre-entries of the 40 lap feature. The Sportsman and MASS Sprint cars will also be on the program that starts promptly at 6 PM.
A treat of pre-entries includes Freedom 76 winner Duane Howard, Jeff Strunk, Craig VonDohren, Billy Pauch, Ryan Godown, Billy Pauch Jr, Ryan Watt, MeMe DeSantis, Mike Gular, Brandon Grosso, Don Norris, Jared Umbenhauer and Gary Hager just to name a few.
Sportsman and MASS Sprint Cars will also be a part of this Triple Thunder Thriller event with pit gates opening at 2:30 PM, general admission tickets go on sale at 4 PM with cars taking the green flag at 6 PM.
Fans interested in advance tickets may order them by calling 443-513-4456. Please speak clearly and leave your name and the number of tickets you would like. Tickets may be paid for and picked up at the Will Call Window on race night after 3:00 PM. Advance ticket holders may enter the grandstands at 3:30 PM, one-half hour before general admission tickets going on sale at 4 PM. Advance tickets orders will be available until 9 AM on race day, Saturday, October 13, then general admission tickets go on sale at 4 PM. The pit page will open at 2:30 PM and race time is set for 6 PM.
This haunting Halloween trick-or-treat celebration will spotlight the Modified Traffic JAM -- a race rich in history, having started in 1998 when Brett Hearn took the inaugural win. In the twenty year history of the Traffic Jam, Hearn is a four-time winner.
A special rules package is offered as a 'treat' to the region's competitors, with both American Racer and Hoosier tires allowed for competition, and either Big-Block or Spec Small-Block engines permitted. There is no entry fee but drivers must pre-enter to be eligible for the posted payoff. Drivers may pre-enter by calling 443 513 4456.
The popular Sportsman division is also on the card, competing for a $1,300 top prize for 25-laps of competition on 'the hill.' The same tire rule is in effect for the Sportsman - competitors are allowed to compete on Hoosier or American Racer rubber. Grandview Sportsman rules are in effect and competitors are allowed to run sail panels. Full rules are available on the Grandview Speedway website.
The MASS Sprint Cars will compete in heat race qualifying action and a 25-lap A-Main. Standard MASS club rules apply to competitors.

Schuchart Dominant at Fulton for Second Win of Year
FULTON, NY – October 6, 2018 – Logan Schuchart dominated all 30 laps to win Saturday Night at Fulton Speedway as the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series invaded Super DIRT Week in New York. Sheldon Haudenschild charged late to second with Donny Schatz completing the podium.
Kraig Kinser won the Sears Craftsman Dash, earning the pole for the 30-lap affair, in search of his first win of the season, alongside Schuchart.
Schuchart's forgettable Qualifying laps put him 15th quick, forcing him to start fifth in his Heat. Methodically, Schuchart worked his way by three cars in the eight-lap event to excitingly secure that all-important spot in the Sears Craftsman Dash.
In the Feature, Schuchart got the initial jump to lead the opening lap. The Hanover, PA native reached lapped traffic quickly around the 3/8th mile and maneuvered it well.
Nine-time and defending Series Champion Donny Schatz moved by Kinser for second on Lap 12 and began closing in on Schuchart as the leaders navigated traffic.
While most drivers were fighting for the bottom, Sheldon Haudenschild, to no one’s surprise, went to work on the cushion in exciting fashion. Haudenschild got to fourth on Lap 16 and was visibly closing in on Kinser and Schatz, who both remained loyal to the bottom.
Haudenschild roared around Kinser for third on Lap 22 and caught Schatz quickly after. Sheldon used a big run out of turn two to cross-under Schatz for second into turn three.
In need of a Yellow, Haudenschild closed in on Schuchart but the latter powered away on the final lap and went on to win his second Feature of the year.
“I’m really proud of this team, we’ve been really strong this year, especially lately, with a handful of Quick Times and consistently in the top five. We just haven’t been able to pull off a lot of wins this year. This Drydene Performance/Shark Racing team is really strong, we just keep growing and keep getting better and I can’t wait for what is in store," Schuchart, who currently sits a career-high sixth in the Series Points Standings, said.
"The bossman Bobby Allen does a great job with this two-car operation and I’m proud to have him as my grandfather,” Schuchart, who holds the Fulton Speedway track record from back in 2016, added in Victory Lane.
Sheldon Haudenschild settled for second and walked through his charge forward, “I kind of had to wait until it cleaned off a little bit [before I could get going up top]. I committed to going up a groove in traffic and my car was really good up there.”
“I was praying for a Yellow, but we didn’t have any all night, the whole field did a good job. We have some really good tracks coming up, hopefully we can pull off a couple more wins and cap off a good season,” the Wooster, OH native said about this Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall No.17.
Donny Schatz extended his Series points lead with his podium finish. “With the finishes we’ve had lately, third is like a win. We had a decent run and traffic made it fun. The younger guys are getting their game on and making us old guys look silly,” Schatz said with a smile next to his Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing No.15 machine.
Shane Stewart, who set Quick Time, finished fourth with Kinser rounding out the top five. Larry Wight, who arrived late after competing during the day at Oswego Speedway, earned KSE Hard Charger honors coming from 18th to ninth.
As Haudenschild mentioned, the entire World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series program went caution-free. With Mother Nature threatening the area all evening, a successful accelerated program was run, with both racing divisions done by 9pm.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to action for a triple-header weekend starting Friday, October 12 with a makeup date at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois before heading to Terre Haute Action Track Saturday and Eldora Speedway Sunday. 21ST ANNUAL MODIFIED TRAFFIC JAM TO OFFER $5,000 TO WIN, $1,000 FOR TENTH AND $500 TO TAKE THE GREEN SATURDAY, OCT 13
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (October 4, 2018) . . . . Trick or Treat, a Halloween Parade, Ghostly Ghouls and the MODS at the MADHOUSE make up a big night of Spooktacular racing on the “haunted hill” of Grandview Speedway Saturday night, October 13 for the finale of the 29th season of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series. The 358 Modifieds/Big Block modifieds will battle in the 21st running of the Traffic Jam, a 40 lap feature paying $5,000 to win, $1,000 for tenth and $500 to take the green for pre-entries of the 40 lap feature. The Sportsman and MASS Sprint cars will also be on the program that starts promptly at 6 PM.
It is no surprise who the early pre-entries are and the list includes Freedom 76 winner Duane Howard, Jeff Strunk, Craig VonDohren, Billy Pauch, Ryan Godown, Billy Pauch Jr, Ryan Watt, Don Norris, Jared Umbenhauer and Gary Hager just to name a few.
Sportsman and MASS Sprint Cars will also be a part of this Triple Thunder Thriller event with pit gates opening at 2:30 PM, general admission tickets go on sale at 4 PM with cars taking the green flag at 6 PM.
Fans interested in advance tickets may order them by calling 443-513-4456. Please speak clearly and leave your name and the number of tickets you would like. Tickets may be paid for and picked up at the Will Call Window on race night after 3:00 PM. Advance ticket holders may enter the grandstands at 3:30 PM, one-half hour before general admission tickets going on sale at 4 PM. Advance tickets orders will be available until 9 AM on race day, Saturday, October 13, then general admission tickets go on sale at 4 PM. The pit page will open at 2:30 PM and race time is set for 6 PM.
This haunting Halloween trick-or-treat celebration will spotlight the Modified Traffic JAM -- a race rich in history, having started in 1998 when Brett Hearn took the inaugural win. In the twenty year history of the Traffic Jam, Hearn is a four-time winner.
A special rules package is offered as a 'treat' to the region's competitors, with both American Racer and Hoosier tires allowed for competition, and either Big-Block or Spec Small-Block engines permitted. The popular Sportsman division is also on the card, competing for a $1,300 top prize for 25-laps of competition on 'the hill.' The same tire rule is in effect for the Sportsman - competitors are allowed to compete on Hoosier or American Racer rubber. The MASS Sprint Cars will compete in heat race qualifying action and a 25-lap A-Main. Standard MASS club rules apply to competitors.
