SHEPPARD STAYS IN THE SPOTLIGHT – CLAIMS SECOND CONSECUTIVE SUPER DIRTCAR SERIES TRAFFIC JAM VICTORY EARNS $7,000
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (July 14, 2016) – For the second consecutive year Waterloo, NY’s Matt Sheppard claimed the win and the $7,000 top prize, during Thursday night’s Big-Block Modified Super DIRTCar Series Traffic Jam presented by Pioneer Pole as NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series brought an exciting night of racing action to Grandview Speedway.
After drawing the pole, Sheppard launched from his first row starting spot with Unadilla, NY’s Billy Decker following closely behind in the Page Trucking No. 91 machine. Sheppard set a rapid pace from the onset hitting lapped traffic by the fourth circuit before the first caution for Wind Gap, PA’s Frank Cozze.
On the restart, Sheppard blasted back to the top spot, with Decker, Peter Britten and Ryan Godown in a three-wide battle for the second spot. As the field bunched up, the caution flag flew for Larry Wight, when his No. 99L machine stopped in turn 3 with a broken front end.
Sheppard bolted out of sight on the restart, while a five-car battle for the second spot ensued. Decker shot inside Britten, while Godown made it three-wide heading down the front stretch -- followed quickly by Grandview Speedway all-time leading race winner, Craig VonDohren and Stewart Friesen.
A lap 9 caution for Jeff Strunk’s No. 126 machine slowed the field for the third time.
VonDohren shot into second on the restart while Friesen battled with Britten for the third position side-by-side for nearly 10 laps swapping the spot – and race grooves – almost half a dozen times.
The action slowed again on the 19th circuit for a tangle between 16-year-old Modified racer Max McLaughlin and Tommy Sheetz.
The top-5 remained unchanged on the restart, with Oley, PA’s Duane Howard making his intentions known moving into the sixth position from a tenth place starting spot.
The final caution flag flew on lap 22 for Vernon, NJ’s Brett Hearn – who stopped in turn four with a left front flat tire.
Sheppard stayed dominant at the drop of the green, as multiple two-car battles followed behind, shuffling the field.
The Traffic Jam lived up to its name as Sheppard approached heavy lapped traffic on the 34th circuit. Tiptoeing around lapped cars Britten and Friesen closed on the leader with Britten challenging for the top spot as Sheppard struggled getting around lapped cars.
Sheppard held tight and picked up his second consecutive Traffic Jam victory, and the $7,000 winner’s share.
Peter Britten, of Queensland, Aus. finished in second; Sprakers, NY’s Stewart Friesen in third; Oley, PA’s Duane Howard in fourth; and Billy Decker of Unadilla, NY finishing in fifth
Big-Block Modified Qualifying Heat races were won by Billy Decker, Stewart Friesen and Larry Wight.
Muhlenburg Park, PA’s Paul Kline – who holds two Saturday Night victories at Grandview Speedway – picked up the $1,200 win in the 25-lap Sportsman race. Kline powered from the first place starting position with fellow front-row starter Brandon Grosso battling alongside.
The event slowed twice once on the initial restart and once just prior to the halfway point, but Kline remained dominant. It certainly wasn’t easy for the racer as Brandon Grosso – aboard the NitroFish No.32 machine – swapped groove multiple times trying to gain the top spot. Grosso would settle for second, Brian Hirthler finished in the third spot, Brad Arnold in fourth and Brian Papiez rounding out the top five finishers.
Sportsman Heat races were won by Brandon Grosso, Brian Hirthler, Chad Kohler and Brad Arnold.
The next NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series event will be Tuesday, July 26 for the 2nd Annual Thunder Cup featuring the 410 Sprint Cars and the 358 Modifieds. Also, that evening the remaining 20-laps of the rain-postponed 410 Sprint Car event and a second 358 Modified feature. Adult Admission is $25, Children 6-11: $10, Under 6: FREE! Racing will kick off 30 minutes earlier than originally scheduled at 7:00 PM.
THUNDER NOTES:

The Meet and Greet rounds out with two up-and-coming drivers forging their way to Modified greatness. Super DIRTCar Series regular Keith Flach, of Ravena, NY, pilots the Flach Companies/Gould Erectors No. 43 machine. Flach is a regular and feature winner at the Lebanon Valley Speedway. Joining Flach is New Jersey-Pennsylvania region hot shoe, Dominick Buffalino, of Morganville, NJ. GRANDVIEW’S BEST PROVIDE STIFF COMPETITION TO DIRTCAR ELITE. . .
SUPER DIRTCAR SERIES TRAFFIC JAM PRESENTED BY PIONEER POLE BUILDINGS RETURNS TO THE HILL ON THURSDAY, JULY 14
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (July 7, 2016) – The premier Big-Block Modified series in the country, the Super DIRTCar Series, heads to the Berks County high-banked Grandview Speedway on Thursday night, July 14 when the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series brings you the 19th Annual Traffic Jam presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings. The Traffic Jam has eighteen years of history with some of the greatest names in modified racing winning this prestigious event.
This fan-favorite event brings the stars of the nationally touring Super DIRTCar Series to the Keystone State, challenging Pennsylvania’s fiercest and fastest competitors in a 60-lap battle offering $7,000 to the winner, $1,000 for tenth, and $500 to take the green flag. This is one of the most attractive purses offered for a 60 lap event on the DIRTCar tour.
Also on the program, the ever-competitive Sportsman in a 25-lap feature, paying $1,200 to the winner. With a relaxed tire rule – allowing any American Racer Track Stamp -- this event is open to all area competitors that meet Grandview Speedway Sportsman specifications.
The Grandview Speedway Modified regulars will bolt into their Big-Block steeds providing some of the stiffest competition for DIRTCar’s elite – and looking at the history books proves that this event, more than any event on the DIRTCar schedule can provide some surprise winners.
In 2010, Craig VonDohren, of Oley, PA, charged from the twenty-third starting position to take the lead and the win with 8-laps remaining, fans were on their feet as Duane Howard, also of Oley, PA, overtook the second spot for a one-two punch from the Grandview regular competitors.
Howard, himself claimed the Traffic Jam victory in 2013; with Pennsylvania-New Jersey region stars Rick Laubach of Quakertown; Jeff Strunk of Bethel, PA; and Neshanic Station, NJ’s Jimmy Horton all picking up Traffic Jam wins respectively.
Leading the DIRTCar contingent is defending race and series Champion Matt Sheppard of Waterloo, NY. Sheppard claimed the $6,000 victory in 2015, propelling himself to the 2015 Super DIRTCar Series Big-Block Modified Championship. Sheppard currently sits second in the 2016 Super DIRTCar Series point standings, just 7 points behind current point leader and two-time Traffic Jam winner Tim Fuller, of Watertown, NY.
Over 20 Super DIRTCar Series regulars are expected to compete in the 19th Annual Traffic Jam including four-time Traffic Jam winner Brett ‘The Jet’ Hearn, out of Sussex, NJ; Frank Cozze of Wind Gap, PA, who picked up a Saturday Night win at Grandview earlier this season; two-time Traffic Jam winner Billy Decker of Unadilla, NY; 2012 Traffic Jam winner and 2014 Forrest Rogers Memorial winner Danny Johnson of Rochester, NY; and 2014 Freedom 76 winner, Stewart Friesen, of Sprakers, NY. Although Stewart has won at Grandview, so far he has been denied a Thunder on the Hill Traffic Jam victory, something we all know he is looking to secure.
While past Grandview winners fill the field, an assembly of top-notch young drivers seek their first Thunder victory; Larry Wight aboard the Gypsum Express No. 99L; Keith Flach, of Ravena, NY, who claimed a qualifying race win in a postponed Thunder event; King Ferry, NY’s Mike Mahaney, aboard the Buzz Chew Chevrolet entry; and 16-year-old competitor Max McClaughlin.
The 19th Annual Traffic Jam presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings marks the final area appearance of the Super DIRTCar Series competitors.
The complete list of past Traffic Jam winners includes: Matt Sheppard (2015), Rick Laubach (2014), Duane Howard (2013), Danny Johnson (2012), Jeff Strunk (2011), Craig VonDohren (2010), Tim Fuller (2009, 2005), Brett Hearn (2009, 2007, 2002, 1998), Billy Decker (2008, 2003), Alan Johnson (2006), Tim McCreadie (2004, 2001), Frank Cozze (2000), and Jimmy Horton (1999).

NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES
RAIN STOPS THUNDER SERIES ON LAP FIFTEEN OF SPRINT FEATURE TUESDAY NIGHT AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (June 28, 2016) – Rain has not been a friend to Thunder on the Hill and Tuesday night was no different as the Pennsylvania 410 Sprint Speed Week Series invaded the Grandview Speedway for event one-hundred and twenty of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings. Feature race leader Ryan Smith made contact with another car sending him spinning into the first turn infield on lap fifteen. At the same time, the light mist of rain opened to a down pour. The sprint cars returned to the pits to wait out the shower. The amount of rain that fell over the twenty-five minute delay, was just too much for even the Grandview Speedway track crew to correct. As a result, the event was postponed with the completion of this show to take place on the Tuesday night, July 26.
The remainder of the event – a 410 Sprint car feature starting at lap 16 and a 30-lap Modified feature will be run, along with a complete show for both divisions. The complete show, includes the 410 Sprint Cars in the 2nd Annual Thunder Cup, a 35-Lap, $5,000 to win feature plus a 30-lap, $3,000 to win NASCAR 358 Modified main event.

Brent Marks (WoS photo)
At the start of the 35 lap Speed Week feature, Brent Marks, of Myerstown, PA, jumped to the early lead with Ryan Smith and Freddie Rahmer following quickly. Darting around the quick 1/3-mile high-banks, Marks set a rapid pace but Smith challenged back sliding into the lead on the fourth circuit.
The yellow flag flew for the first time on the sixth lap for Sean Zemunik and Jevon Ahner who tangled in turn four.

Ryan Smith (WoS photo)
On the restart, Smith charged forward, while eight-time Thunder on the Hill winner Greg Hodnett raced into the runner-up spot from the sixth place starting position. Smith, “The Kunkletown Kid” to his fans, powered forward before tangling with a lapped car on the fifteenth lap.

TJ Stutts (WoS photo)
TJ Stutts set fast time with a lap of 11.763. For Stutts, this was his first visit to Grandview in a 410 sprint car. Sprint heat races were won by Bryan Clauson, Brent Marks and Ryan Smith. In the Modifieds, heat race events were won by Duane Howard and Ryan Grim
The next NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series event takes place on Thursday, July 14 when the Super DIRTCar Series Big-Block Modifieds compete at the 19th Annual Traffic Jam presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings. The Modifieds will compete in a 60-lap event paying $7,000 to win that pays $1,000 for 10th and $500 to Start a 30-car field. Also on the card is the Sportsman division participating in a 25-lap event.
General Admission tickets for Thursday, July 14 are $25 for Adults, $10 for Children 6-11 and Free for Children Under 6. Pit Admission is $35, no license is required.

NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES
NAPA AUTO PARTS & PIONEER POLE BUILDINGS PRESENT. . . . . .
IS A FIRST-TIME GRANDVIEW WINNER LIKELY TUESDAY, JUNE 28 DURING THUNDER ON THE HILL SPEEDWEEK EVENT ?
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (JUNE 27, 2016) – Winning at Grandview Speedway is no easy task -- especially when the 410 Sprint Cars invade the Berks County oval – but this year’s contingent of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speed week competitors may be the strongest in years, and there is definitely opportunity to knock off two-time defending race winner Greg Hodnett.
The challenge takes place this Tuesday, June 28 at 7:30 PM when NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series showcases the 410 Sprint Cars in a 35-lap, $5,000-to-win event as the NASCAR 358 Modifieds battlein a 30-lap, $3,000-to-win feature presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings.
Leading the charge is Broken Arrow, Oklahoma’s Stevie Smith. A veteran of Sprint Car racing, Smith has claimed victories at almost every track he’s raced at. Of course, it was August 1990 when the Smith Family’s famed Black Bandit No. 19 sat in Thunder on the Hill victory lane. Steve Smith Sr. would pilot that machine to the inaugural NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series event win. Now, twenty-six years later the younger Smith – defending PA Speed Week Champion – searches for his first Thunder on the Hill win a Grandview Speedway.
Sitting second in PA Speed Week Series points is 31-year-old Lucas Wolfe, of Mechanicsburg, PA. Wolfe certainly knows the fast way around the Bechtelsville high-banks setting quick time at 2015’s Thunder Cup race. At the 2014, Speed Week event Wolfe pulled alongside eventual race winner Greg Hodnett, with two laps remaining only to be beaten by inches at the line – this wasn’t Wolfe’s first time as a bridesmaid, he finished second to Todd Shaffer at the 2007 Speed Week event.
Kunkletown, PA’s Ryan Smith claimed three victories in 2015, traveling with the All-Star Circuit of Champions and has solid finishes in just three 410 starts at Grandview Speedway with a sixth, fourth and seventh in respectively.
Ryan Taylor’s flashy No. 20 machine is a fan favorite at Grandview Speedway – probably because the 27-year-old racer credits the Bechtelsville clay for piquing his interest in racing action. Taylor is a proven winner, having claimed victories at the Port Royal Speedway.
Smith’s teammates, 20-year-old Sprint Car aces Brandon and Freddie Rahmer, out of Salfordville, PA, have both claimed home track victories this season – and Freddie has picked up a top-five finish at Grandview’s last two 410 Sprint races. The Rahmer name is no stranger to Grandview victory lane – Fred Rahmer holds 9 Thunder on the Hill Sprint Car wins and 45 Modified victories.
Other possible first-time winners include Brent Marks of Myerstown, PA; Alan Crimes of Denver, PA, JJ Grasso of Middletown, DE, and Aaron Tot of East Berlin, PA. Noblesville, IN’s Bryan Clausen has never claimed a winged Sprint Car victory at Grandview, but does hold two wingless Sprint Car wins.
A $200 bonus has been posted to the top 360 Sprint Car, with a $100 bonus to the second 360 Sprint Car.
The Grandview small-block Modified stars will be out in full force defending their home turf: Current weekly series point leader, Craig VonDohren; 10-time Track Champion, Jeff Strunk; two-time 2016 race winner, Duane Howard; and 4-time Thunder on the Hill winner, Doug Manmiller. Previous Thunder on the Hill modified winners Rick Laubach, Mike Gular, Ryan Godown, and Kevin Hirthler are all expected to be in attendance.
Advance tickets are on sale now and may be ordered by calling 443-513-4456. Please provide your name and the number of tickets requested. Tickets may be picked up and paid for on race night after 3:30 PM. Advance ticket holders may enter the grandstands at 4:30 PM, one half hour prior to the sale of General Admission tickets.
Celebrating the 27th season of racing action NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series always includes fun for the fans with activities such as Pre-Race Pit Tours, the Inside/Out Experience - where fans can sign-up to watch hot laps from the infield, JOE "THE PIZZA DUDE", giveaways, fireworks and appearances by the Thunder Girls.
The Low Down & Dirty Meet and Greet kicks off at 5 PM with drivers Ryan Smith and Ryan Taylor. Fans are encouraged to take photos and get autographs with these popular Sprint Car drivers.
