RYAN SMITH TOPS LUCAS WOLFE FOR FIRST EVERY 410 SPRINT WIN AS BILLY PAUCH COMES HOME THE MODIFIED FEATURE WINNER IN THE JERSEY RUSH 4

New Egypt, NJ . . . . . . . . .Twenty-six year old Ryan Smith of Kunkletown, PA scored his first career 410 sprint car win Tuesday night in the JERSEY RUSH 4 at the New Egypt Speedway. The event, sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts and Pioneer Pole Buildings, saw Billy Pauch hold off two late race challenges from Jimmy Blewett and Doug Manmiller to win the modified feature. A big crowd turned out for the fourth running of the Jersey RUSH with the final checkered flag falling at 10:25 PM.

Twenty-six sprint cars took part in time trials with Lance Dewease setting fast time with a time of 13.461. Heat race events were sponsored by Lentini Auto Salvage with $200 going to the winners that included Lucas Wolfe, Freddie Rahmer and Davey Sammons.

In the 30 lap Jersey Rush sprint feature, Ryan Smith took the lead at the drop of the green followed by Mark Smith and Freddie Rahmer. Smith quickly established a comfortable lead with JJ Grasso and Lucas Wolfe on the move to the front. On lap ten, the first caution was displayed for Joey Hershey who stopped in turn four. On the restart, Smith now had to contend with Mark Smith and two time Jersey Rush winner JJ Grasso. At the halfway mark, Ryan Smith was on top followed by Mark Smith, JJ Grasso, Freddie Rahmer and Lucas Wolfe.

By lap nineteen, the battle was now between Mark Smith and Grasso for second. On lap twenty-one, Grasso moved into second and began the task of chasing down Ryan Smith.

Following a lap twenty-three restart, Lucas Wolfe made a strong run and advanced to second, passing JJ Grasso going into turn one. With five laps remaining, Wolfe was reeling in Ryan Smith as slower traffic was now making the race very interesting. On lap twenty-seven, Wolfe pulled along-side of Smith but the pass was not going to be completed this time.

Smith pulled a two car length advantage but with two laps remaining, Wolfe was back in the hunt. With the white flag waving, Wolfe took another run for the lead but Ryan Smith was not to be denied his first 410 win and a $5,000 payday. Lucas Wolfe finished second, JJ Grasso third, Kyle Reinhardt was fourth with Freddie Rahmer making up the top five.

The three Lentini Auto Salvage Modified heats were won by Dominick Buffalino, Billy Pauch and Ryan Godown.

In the 30 lap modified feature, Neal Williams set the pace for the first two circuits with Billy Pauch taking the lead on lap three. Williams fought back to try and regain the lead but Pauch held on to the top spot. On lap eight Doug Manmiller moved into second and by lap twelve, Manmiller was challenging Pauch for the lead.

At the halfway point, Pauch and Manmiller were at the front of the pack with Jimmy Blewett third, Williams fourth and Keith Hoffman. On lap eighteen, Blewett moved into second and now it was up to him to take the win away from Pauch. With five laps remaining, the top five was Pauch, Blewett, Manmiller, , Keith Hoffman and Duane Howard.

In the final two closing laps, Blewett caught Pauch and offered several challenges but at the drop of the checkered flag, the $3,000 payoff went to Pauch. Blewett was second with Doug Manmiller third, Keith Hoffman was fourth and Duane Howard fifth.

NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES EVENT 112 WAS A THRILLER FOR FANS. . . . . . . .

GREG HODNETT WINS MACH 1 CHASSIS SPRINT FEATURE AS DUANE HOWARD TOPS ALL IN PPB RACE OF CHAMPIONS MODIFIED FEATURE TUESDAY AT GRANDVIEW

It could very well go down as one of best nights of racing in 2014!

The large crowd on hand was thriller with two spectacular feature events Tuesday night at the Grandview Speedway as the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series celebrated their twenty-fifth season. Greg Hodnett won the 35 lap Pennsylvania Sprint Speed Week 410 sprint feature event presented by MACH1 Chassis as Duane Howard rebounded after a wild crash Saturday night to win the Pioneer Pole Buildings Race of Champions 60 lap feature event. Both feature events were spectacular with the feature winners in both events being decided on the final laps. For the one-hundred and twelfth event in Thunder on the Hill Racing, a total purse in excess of $50,000 was paid to the two divisions.

The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing welcomed a big turnout of racing fans as the event opened with the CnB Mushrooms 410 sprint time trials. Lucas Wolfe driving the ZEMCO sprint car set fast time, turning the one lap with a time of 12.032. The three 410 sprint qualifying events were won by Brent Marks, Austin Wheatley and Kyle Reinhardt.

The Modified Race of Champions qualifying event winners were Rick Laubach, Stew Friesen, Craig VonDohren and Duane Howard with the consolation victory going to John McClelland.

Both fields were set and the fast moving show was now ready to present the MACH 1 Chassis 35 lap sprint feature.

#27 Greg Hodnett and #1 Lucas Wolfe (WoS photo)

Greg Hodnett, driving the Mike Heffner sprint car set the early pace followed by Darren Mollenoyux and Lucas Wolfe. By lap seven Wolfe was second and chasing down Hodnett. Alan Krimes and Danny Dietrich were on their way to the front of the pack. On lap fourteen, Wolfe caught Hodnett and staged the first challenge for the lead with Alan Krimes racing in third.

As the halfway point of the race, Hodnett, Wolfe, Danny Dietrich, Krimes and Mollenoyux were the top five. On lap nineteen, Dietrich, using the outside lane, moved into second and he began to chase down the leader. On lap twenty-four, there were three cars racing under a blanket for the lead with Hodnett, Dietrich and Dewease in a battle. Lap after lap Dietrich rode the outside boiler-plate as he challenged Hodnett for the lead.

On lap twenty-four, Lucas Wolfe now joined the battle for the lead with Brent Marks just outside the top five. Hodnett, Dietrich and Wolfe were no in a three way battle for the lead. Dietrich made a challenge for the lead lap after lap then on lap twenty-eight, Lucas Wolfe moved into second. Wolfe now challenged for the lead and with just two laps to go, Hodnett and Wolfe crossed the line side-by-side. Hodnett held off the challenges of Wolfe to score his seventh career Thunder on the Hill victory and collected $5,000.

Duane Howard(WoS photo)

In the sixty lap PPB Race of Champions feature, pole sitter Stew Friesen led the first lap with Rick Laubach taking the top spot on lap two. The one and only caution flag of the race came out on lap two for Craig VonDohren who had a flat tire. On the restart, Friesen remained the leader with Laubach in the hunt. MeMe DeSantis passed Laubach for second on lap five, but one lap later, Laubach returned to second. Duane Howard, who flipped violently on Saturday night was in the hunt and running third.

On lap fifteen, a three car battle for the lead was unfolding between Friesen, Laubach and Howard. As the leaders approached lapped traffic, Friesen appeared to have an edge, pulling away from the rest of the field. As the field approached the halfway point of the race, Jeff Strunk was now reeling in the leaders, making it a four car race for win. As the field passed on lap thirty-eight, Friesen, Laubach, Howard and Strunk were now surrounded by slower traffic as the four drivers began to duke it out for the lead. Howard moved into second and began his job to reel in the leader.

It was a new race on lap forty as Rick Laubach became the new leader and by lap forty-two, Howard was second with Friesen third and hard charging Jeff Strunk was now running in fourth. With just ten laps to go, the race became more interesting as Laubach, Howard and Strunk were in the chase for the lead. Howard regained the lead on lap fifty-two and by lap fifty-six, Laubach was again back on top.

With three laps to go, Laubach, Howard and Strunk were not only dodging each other but a list of slower cars just ahead of the leaders. On lap fifty-eight, Howard took the lead with Laubach and Strunk side-by-side for second. With the checker flag waiving, Duane Howard took the victory to collect the $5,000 first place prize. Rick Laubach finished second followed by Jeff Strunk, Stewart Friesen and Keith Hoffman.

CHASE STOCKON WINS JESSE HOCKETT CLASSIC AS TIM BUCKWALTER TAKES ARDC WIN TUESDAY NIGHT IN NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL EVENT

Chase Stockon of Elizabethtown, IN was the class of the field as the 8th Annual USAC Eastern Storm opened Tuesday night at the Grandview Speedway. Stockon earned $6,000 for the win in the 40 lap Jesse Hockett Classic, an event run in the memory of the “Rocket Man” Jesse Hockett who lost his life in a garage accident. This was the one-hundred and eleventh NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series event presented by Window World, Pioneer Pole Buildings and GALCO Business Communications. Tim Buckwalter came hone the winner of the twenty-five lap ARDC feature. The event ran against high odds of bad weather, with at least two rain delays through the night. An electrical issue required some down time during one of the rain delays as well. A big crowd was on hand despite the bad weather throughout the area.

The Amsoil USAC sprints competed in time trials with fast time of the night going to Tracy Hines with a time of 13. 776. USAC heat race events were won by Brady Bacon, Robert Ballou and Hunter Schuerenberg as Landon Simon won the “B” main.

In the forty lap Jesse Hockett Classic, Chase Stockon was the leader at the drop of the green flag with Jon Stanbrough and Justin Grant in the chase. Grant made several challenges at Stanbrough for second on laps 6-8 with Stanbrough retaining a solid hold on second.

Stanbrough then closed the gap on Stockon but never offered a challenge for the lead. Justin Grant, Dave Darland and Brady Bacon were not mixing it up for third with Darland taking a hold on third on lap eleven. A light mist began to fall on lap fifteen but that never stopped the three wide racing throughout the field. Then on lap twenty-one, the yellow flag was displayed due to the amount of ran now accumulating on the speedway. The USAC sprint cars were sent to the pits. At the same time, an electrical issue developed with the track lights, so the electrician and maintenance team used the rain delay as an opportunity to make electrical repairs.

After a thirty minute delay, the USAC sprints returned to the speedway with twenty-one laps in the book. The recently fallen rain made the track super fast and Chase Stockon just checked out from the rest of the field when green flag racing resumed.

Jon Stanbrough immediately went on the defense as Dave Darland took a run at the runner-up spot. Justin Grant and Brady Bacon reeled in Darland and Stanbrough as there was a four car race for second with Stockon holding a comfortable lead.

In the closing laps, Stockon was working his way masterfully around the slower traffic as Stanbrough came up short to challenge for the win. Dave Darland finished third with Justin Grant fourth and Brady Bacon fifth.

A field of twenty-nine ARDC Midgets took part in the program with heat race victories going to Trevor Kobylarz, Ryan Greth and Bruce Buckwalter as Danny Straton won the “B” Main.

In the twenty-five lap feature, Trevor Kobylarz led the first four laps with Tim Buckwalter taking the top spot on lap five. Kobylarz fought to take back the lead but gave up the runner spot to Bruce Buckwalter Jr.

At the halfway mark, Tim Buckwatler was the leader over Bruce Buckwalter, Brett Arndt, Steve Buckwalter and Billy Pauch Jr.

By lap seventeen, Bill Pauch was third and closing on Brett Arndt. With the five laps to go sign showing, Pauch moved into second. Pauch ran short of time and settled for the runner –up spot at Tim Buckwalter took the win. Making up the top five were Steven Buckwalter, Brett Arndt and Steven Drevicki.

8th Annual AMSOIL USAC EASTERN STORM

NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL CONTINUES WITH JESSE HOCKETT CLASSIC presented by WINDOW WORLD

THE SHOW OF ALL SHOW’S. . . . TAKE OFF THE WINGS, STAND ON THE THROTTLE, HERE THEY COME. . .USAC NON-WING SPRINTS AT GRANDVIEW TUESDAY JUNE 3RD

If you have never seen a non-wing sprint car race, you don’t know what you’re missing.

So plan to be at the Grandview Speedway Tuesday night, June 3 when the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series continues with the Jesse Hockett Classic for the USAC non-wing sprint cars and ARDC non-wing midgets presented by Window World. Race time is 7:30 PM.

The nation’s best non-wing sprint car drivers from around the county will gather on the “hill” Tuesday night. Drivers like Jarrett Andretti of Indianapolis, IN, Shane Cottle of Kokomo, IN, the “ Modern Day Cowboy” Daron Clayton of Sikeston, MO, Dave Darland, Lincoln, IN, Tracy Hines of New Castle, IN, Kevin Thomas, Jr. of Cullman, AL, Robert Ballou of Rocklin, CA, Nathan Moore of Tyler, TX, Chad Boespflug of Hanford, CA and Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, OK are some of the expected entries. Look for ARDC defending champion Trevor Kobylarz of Birdsboro, PA to make his initial non-wing sprint car outing at Grandview and some other locals to include Billy Pauch Jr and Central PA driver Mark Smith.

Non-wing sprint car racing is not for the “faint of heart”. This is as extreme as dirt track racing gets.

In many forms of racing, time trials can be a yawner, but not when the USAC cars take to Grandview Speedway. Some say, USAC time trials along are worth the price of admission. Well, have no fear, there is much more to the show then just time trials.

These non-wing sprint car drivers use the outside boiler-plate as a way to slow down. There is always wheel rubbing, countless slide-jobs and racing in a pack is just the norm. In the 2013 running of the Jesse Hockett Classic, Daron Clayton did it all to win the $6,000 first place prize. In a three car battle for the win, Clayton, Levi Jones and Bryan Clauson were on the inside berm, glazing the boiler-plate and offered a three car battle for the lead for the final fifteen laps. Daron Clayton may have failed trying to move the outside boiler-plate at Grandview, but he did win the prestigious event.

Gates will open at 5 PM and for advance ticket holders, you may enter the grandstands at 4:30 PM. Warm-ups will begin at 6:45 with time trials getting underway at 7:30 PM.

USAC time trials, heat races and the 40 lap Jesse Hockett Classic are on the program along with the ARDC non-wing midgets, competing in a series of heat races all leading up to a 25 lap feature event. On May 25 at Grandview, ARDC put on the best show of the night, with Alex Bright taking the win in the non-stop 25 lap feature with Bright starting twenty-first. . . It was an awesome race!

The popular pre-race pit tours introduced at the May 25 Thunder on the Hill event will be offered on Tuesday night as well as the Inside/Out Promotion where fans may watch the warm-ups from inside turn four. What a treat with USAC on the hill.

And don’t forget to welcome our newest sponsor, Window World, America’s largest home improvement company. Window World of Lehigh Valley is your local specialist to help you with your window, vinyl siding, entry door or patio door needs. They can be reached at 610-432-6878, online at www.WindowWorldAllentown.com or at their show room 5925 Tilghman St, Allentown, PA 18104.

Following Grandview, the AMSOIL USAC Eastern Swing will include stops at the Lincoln Speedway Wednesday, June 4, New Egypt Speedway, Thursday, June 5, Port Royal on Saturday, June 7 with the finale set for Sunday, June 8 at the Susquehanna Speedway.

The 8th Annual AMSOIL Eastern Storm will showcase the USAC National Non-Wing sprint cars in a five race east coast swing that will open as part of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series as Grandview.

This event, labeled the Jesse Hockett Classic will remember one of the all-time great sprint car drivers who lost his life in a freak garage accident in 2010. In the 2009 running of the Amsoil Eastern Storm, Jesse Hockett won two USAC sprint car features in the same night at Grandview, an exciting and memorable night for this popular sprint car icon.

Andretti, one of the most popular names in auto racing will echo at Grandview Speedway Tuesday night, June 3 as Jarrett Andretti of Indianapolis, IN will make his first start ever at Grandview. At age twenty-one, Andretti is a member and weekly competitor with USAC and sponsored by Window World. “I have always heard great things about Grandview Speedway and appreciate their support of the USAC Sprint Car Series. The larger Pennsylvania tracks, Grandview included, are really able to show fans what the cars are capable of and give us a break from the Indiana bullrings. I am looking forward to my first trip to PA and thankful for USAC and all the tracks for making it all possible, “ said Andretti.

The Staff of Thunder on the Hill welcomes Window World to their roster of sponsors. Window World is America’s largest home improvement company. Clayton of Sikeston, MO is a pre-entry for this years’ Eastern Storm. Dave Darland of Lincoln, IN, Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, OK, Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, IN, Chris Windom, Canton, IL and Tracy Hines are a few of the pre-entries.

If you have never seen a non-wing sprint car race, you can’t miss the Eastern Storm. Side-by-side is the norm, a little wheel-banging, a slide job or two and drivers using the outside boiler plate to stay in bounds is just part of the show.

On Wednesday night, June 4, the USAC non-wing sprints will head to the Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA for a sensational double-header to include the Rislone URC 358/360 winged sprint challenge. Wow, the best of both all in one night, winged and non-wing sprints in a huge double-header on Wednesday night. In the history of both organizations, this is the first time ever both USAC and URC are brought together on the same racing program. Race time is set for 7:30 PM.

Then on Thursday night, the USAC sprints make a return visit to the New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, NJ on Thursday night ,June 5. USAC and ARDC will team up for this double-header that is sure to please the New Jersey based crowd.

The Eastern Storm also has stops at the Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night, June 7 followed by a Sunday night stop at the Susquehanna Speedway.
