It’s a New York State of Mind When it comes to Friends of Mike

New Egypt, NJ – The four most recent entries for Friends of Mike VI
which will take place this coming Saturday at New Egypt Speedway July
30, have been received and filed. Four drivers from upstate Western
New York will all be making the trek to New Jersey in search of some
serious cash. Stewart Friesen, Danny Johnson, Todd Burley, and Chad
Brachman are the latest ‘outsiders’ to confirm that they will be in
attendance for the $20,000 F.O.M. first place prize.

Stewart Friesen, last year’s Super Dirt Week winner at the Syracuse
Mile has automatically become a lead candidate of possible winners
for the 100-lap event. The Niagara On The Lake, Ont driver is
currently leading the point standings at all three of his home
tracks. Friesen leads the way at the Brewerton, Five Mile Point, and
Utica-Rome Speedways as well as the entire Northeast in dirt modified
wins. Friesen’s only appearance at NES in 2011 came in the R.o.C.
‘Cabin Fever’ where he finished a respectable 4th. There is no doubt
about it, Stewart Friesen is coming to New Egypt for one reason and
one reason only…He wants to be conquer the Friends of Mike field and
walk out of NES with $20,000!

When Danny Johnson enters ANY race he is a threat to win. Arguably
one of the most talented race car drivers to have ever strapped into
a race car, Johnson will being seeking revenge on the NES field on
July 30. Last year Johnson came up just a few laps and car lengths
short of the $15,000 first place prize as NES regular Willie Osmun
held off the hard charging Johnson at the finish line. The
Rochester, NY driver will be steering the Mike Payne-owned No. 27J
and will be looking to take no prisoners on Saturday. ‘The Doctor’
has also been voted into the Rogie Rumble II modified match races by
the fans of New Egypt. If DJ can sweep the heat race, Rumble, and
100-lapper he could leave NJ with $22,000…not too bad for a Saturday
in July.

Todd Burley is not stranger when it comes to NES and he hopes that
will carry him a long way next Saturday during the 100-lap affair.
Todd was actually an NES regular back in 2002 where he recorded
several top 5 finishes to his credit. The Spencerport, NY driver
realizes it’s a long tow from his home town but feels that it’s well
worth the trip for the purse that’s being offered to the modified
division. Burley currently sits third in points at both his home
tracks of Ransomville and Utica-Rome. He was able to make it to the
Cabin Fever 60 back in March where unfortunately he was unable to
qualify for the event. You can almost guarantee that driver of the
No. 89B will not have a repeat performance like that again.

The fourth driver entered from upstate New York is a surprising yet
pleasant entry. Chad Brachman has only competed at the New Jersey
oval a handful of times but is certainly up for the 100-lap
challenge. The Sanborn, NY driver is a regular at the Ransomville
Speedway where he currently sits 2nd in points just ahead of Todd
Burley and behind legendary small block driver Pete Bicknell. Look
for the Mighty Taco/Power Trip Energy Drink No. 3 to be turning the
heads of the NES fans this coming Saturday.

It all goes down this Saturday, July 30 at New Egypt Speedway.
Friends of Mike VI with a possible $20,000 going to the winner of the
100 lap modified portion of the night. All gates open at 2pm. A
free BBQ to the public will take place from 2-4pm in conjunction with
a huge Chinese Auction. Racing begins at 6pm. The Sportsman, who
race for $1,500 will be in action as well as the Outlaw Stocks who
race for $1,000 for their F.O.M. prize. Adult admission is $30,
Students 12-15 years of age are $15, and children 11 and under are
FREE. Pit admission is $40 no license required. For more

"THE RUSH" 410 Sprints & Modifieds at New Egypt Speedway

"THE RUSH" IS COMING TO NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY TUESDAY, AUGUST 30

One of the most anticipated events of the 2011 Northeast dirt track racing season is. . ."THE RUSH" coming to the New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, NJ on Tuesday night, August 30. "THE RUSH" will showcase the powerful 410 sprints cars joined in a doubleheader program to include the modifieds. It's "double trouble" as these two premier divisions will complete in a series of qualifying leading up to a pair of 30 lap feature events. In the event of rain, Wednesday night, August 31 will be the rain date. The 410 sprints seldom visit the state of New Jersey and were last at New Egypt on May 20, 2007 when Steve Kinser was the winner.

New Egypt Speedway has presented 410 sprint cars on six occasions with Kinser winning in 2007, Donny Schatz was the winner in 2003 and again in 2001. PJ Chesson won a 410 sprint event in 2002, Tyler Walker was the winner in 2000 and Billy Pauch won the initial first ever 410 sprint show at the New Egypt Speedway in 1999.

Interest is high and the word in buzzing about "THE RUSH" coming to New Egypt on Tuesday night, August 30. The 30 lap feature will pay $4,000 to the winner and a $1,000 bonus is offered if the driver is pre-entered. So a $5,000 payday could go to the winner. Tyler Walker, a previous winner at New Egypt and recent winner of the Kings Royal was the first pre-entered driver. Other pre-entries include Greg Hodnett, Lance Dewease, Justin Henderson, Rick Lafferty, Frank Cozze, Ryan Taylor, Davey Sammons, Robbie Stillwaggon, Mark Bitner with plenty more entries still to come.

There is no entry fee but for drivers to be eligible for the $1,000 bonus, they must pre-enter by calling 443 513 4456. Also, if a driver should not qualify for the sprint feature and they are pre-entered, they will receive $100 tow money, but again, the driver must be pre-entered. Drivers are asked to leave their name, car number, hometown and a return phone number.

A special "Meet & Greet is being organized for spectators to get an up close look at the drivers and cars and this will take place before the race. From 5 to 6 PM, the gate from victory lane to the pit area will be open allowing spectators to meet and greet the popular and nationally known 410 sprint car drivers pit side, by their rigs as they prepare for the green flag in "THE RUSH".

The standard purse will include $4000 for the winner, with $2000 going to the runner-up, $1600 to third, $1500 to fourth and $1400 to fifth. The balance of the purse will pay $1300 (sixth), $1200 (seventh), $1100 (eighth), $1025 (ninth) and $1000 (10th), $825 (11th), $725 (12th), $600 (13th), $525 (14th), $515 (15th) and $400 (16th-24th). The sprint entries are open to any 410, 360 or 358 however, 305 sprints are not permitted to compete.

The modifieds will be the second half the this popular "double trouble" event competing in qualifying heat races all leading up to the $3,000 to win 30 lap modified feature.

General admission for "THE RUSH" is $30 for adults, $10 for children 6-11 and kids under the age of six will be admitted for Free. The pit fee is $35 and a license is not required.

"THE RUSH" is a co-promotion between Lenny Sammons, his sons and special events organizer Bob Miller.

All the details are being worked out for his huge return of the 410 sprints to New Egypt Speedway on Tuesday night, August 30.

RACING NEWS THE WAY IT IS MEANT TO BE

ROSSBURG, OH (July 16) -- Everything was going Sammy Swindell's way on Saturday night in the $50,000-to-win Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway ... until the final corner. Swindell had the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series crown jewel event locked up when suddenly his right rear tire went down as he exited Turn 4 en route to the checkered flag. The huge crowd was stunned as it watched Tyler Walker shoot past a helpless Swindell to win. Earlier in the night Randy Hannagan got by early race leader Caled Helms to take the NRA (National Racing Alliance) Sprint Invader main event.

After winning his heat to land on the pole for the main event, then lead 39 of the 40 laps, Swindell managed to salvage second in the Big Game Treestands Maxim with Paul McMahan in third in the HR Cattle/Roth Motorsports Maxim, but it was little solace to the three-time World of Outlaws champion from Germantown, Tenn.

A wild finish led to an extremely wild post-race celebration. Walker crossed the scale to officially be declared the winner and was overcome with jubilance. He eventually made his way to victory lane where he was crowned by Earl Baltes, who built Eldora Speedway in 1954 and created the Kings Royal in 1984.

"I've lost so many in the last turn," said Walker, of Los Angeles, Calif. "I was giving it about half throttle there at the end because I knew the tires were getting low. It just feels really good to be on the other side of that kind of deal. I've lost a lot of races like that so I know how it feels to be sitting there watching someone else takes the checkers. This is the biggest win of my career by far and I couldn't have done it without the car owners and team that I have behind me."

Sweetening the deal for Walker was that the race fell on his birthday. The driver of the Keen-owned Hunter Truck Sales/Peterbilt Maxim started the main event on the outside of the front row and was in command of second throughout the night.

Walker was trying to run down Swindell when a scary multi-car crash in Turns 1 and 2 on Lap 11 sent Ed Lynch Jr. in a flip after making hard contact with Joey Saldana's Kasey Kahne Racing machine. Lynch walked away unharmed but Saldana was transported with what appeared to be an injured arm to a local hospital for observation. (For updates on Saldana when available, click WorldofOutlaws.com)

When the race got back under way, the intensity level raised with each passing lap. A late caution bunched the field one final time. Sensing tire wear could be a factor, McMahan did all he could to ensure his tires would last through to the end.
"I could see the tires were wearing pretty good so I tried to just ease off and maintain as best I could," said McMahan, who made it back-to-back third-place finishes on the weekend. "We're happy with another top-5 finish. Dennis and Theresa Roth really make this possible and I really owe them a lot for keeping me out here along with Kasey Kahne."

The last lap show stopper capped off an exciting evening of racing that saw 2010 World of Outlaws champion Jason Meyers and 2004 Kings Royal winner Jason Sides battle their way through the Last Chance Showdown for starting spots in the feature. Four-time series champion Donny Schatz and Brad Sweet rounded out the top-5.

Third generation driver Caleb Helms looked to be the driver to beat in the NRA portion of the Kings Royal and used a smooth run to take an early and commanding lead.

Hannagan broke free from the pack to take runner-up honors about midway into the distance, but with a full straightaway lead, the Helms challenge seemed impossible.

With a non-stop pace ensuing, Hannagan took full advantage of lapped traffic which affected Helms’ pace. With a handful of laps remaining, Hannagan shot by Helms to take the lead and eventual victory.

And understandably dejected Helms finished second, with the previous night’s winner, David Gravel, moving from 17th to take home third. Chad Kemenah and Dustin Daggett completed the top five.

Curt Michael

Curt Michael of Ocean View, DE scored his first Rislone URC Sprint Series feature win Saturday night at the Lincoln Speedway on Valley Forge INC Night. Michael, the seven time URC champion started outside the front row and led the entire twenty-five lap feature event. For Michael, this victory marked his forty-fifth career win under the URC banner.

Ed Aikin of Lincoln University, PA set fast time in time trials earning the LikeWise Fast Time bonus. URC heat race events were won by JJ Grasso, Curt Michael and Josh Weller.

Rory Janney and Curt Michael made up the front row to start the feature with Curt Michael taking the lead at the immediate drop of the green flag. Michael established a solid lead as Jenny was left to battle with Dave Ely. On lap three, Ely moved into second and took his shot at chasing down the leader. Jenny continued to fight back and on lap seven, he regained the second spot dropping Ely to third.

The race ran caution free at the halfway point it was still Curt Michael, Rory Janney, Dave Ely, Kevin Nagy and Ed Aikin making up the top five. By lap eighteen, Michael was coming up on slower traffic and Jenny started to reel in the leader. Third place runner Dave Ely was also catching the leaders. With just five laps remaining, Curt Michael clearly had his hands full with lapped traffic and the top three were now nose to tail.

Second place runner Rory Janney stayed right on the rear bumper of Michael, waiting for the leader to bobble, but it never happened. Curt Michael took the win just two car lengths ahead of runner-up Rory Janney who scored his best URC career feature finish with a second. Dave Ely finished third followed by Kevin Nagy and Ed Aikin.
