24TH INDIANA SPRINT WEEK STARTS FRIDAY;
RACES THIS WEEK AT GAS CITY, KOKOMO & LAWRENCEBURG

The AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Series opens its 2011 Indiana Sprint Week activities this week with races at Gas City I-69 Speedway Friday, Kokomo Speedway Saturday night and Lawrenceburg Speedway Sunday night.

The Midwest Ford Focus series also competes at Gas City, while Sunday’s Lawrenceburg race is the “Robbie Stanley Classic.”

Jon Stanbrough, last year’s Gas City winner, is the defending ISW Champion, while defending AMSOIL National Sprint Champ Levi Jones, last year’s Kokomo winner, enters Friday’s race as the 2011 series point leader. Stanbrough is second in the points, 71 behind Jones.

Dave Darland, currently ninth in the AMSOIL points, won last year’s “Robbie Stanley Classic” at Lawrenceburg.

The Indiana Sprint Week calendar continues July 13-14-15-16 respectively at the Terre Haute Action Track, Brownstown Speedway, Bloomington Speedway and Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt.

Once again, the car owner champion of Indiana Sprint Week will receive a distinctive Bridgeport Rocker made of cherry wood, donated by John Youngs of Bridgeport Rockers.

Former Indiana Sprint Week Champions expected to compete for the 2011 title include Jones and Darland, who each have three titles and Stanbrough, who has two.

Darland leads the all-time winners list with 14 career ISW victories. Stanbrough, who won three races last year, has 13.

THE BATTLE AT LINCOLN

JOE THE PIZZA DUDE TO VISIT THE BATTLE AT LINCOLN ON TUESDAY, JULY 12 AT THE LINCOLN SPEEDWAY

One of the most popular folks at a race track these days in JOE the PIZZA Dude.

He developed his reputation visiting many of the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series events, running through the grandstands giving away pizza. In many cases, it's the race fan that makes the most noise that receives the reward of a Pizza. Joe the Pizza Dude will be making an appearance at The Battle at Lincoln at the Lincoln Speedway on Tuesday night, July 12.

The PPB (Pioneer Pole Buildings) Battle At Lincoln will take place at the Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA and will showcase the MACH 1 358/3360 Sprint Challenge paying $3,000 to the winner if pre-entered. Also on the card is the PPB Race of Champions $5,000 to win 60 lap Modified feature event. This show is presented by NAPA Auto Parts with race time set for 7:30 PM and in the event of rain, Wednesday night, July 13 will be used as the rain date.

This doubleheader program will bring out a star filled cast of competitors in both divisions. More then forty sprint cars have entered the lucrative MACH 1 Chassis 358/360 Sprint Challenge that will pay $3,000 to the winner of the 25 lap feature event. Mark Smith, Daryn Pittman, Lance Dewease, Aaron Ott, Brian Montieth, Pat Cannon, Blane Heimbach, Dave Ely, Kramer Williamson, Billy Dietrich, Billy Pauch Jr., Niki Young and Kevin Nouse are just some of the heavy hitters set for the sprint portion of the event.

Possible entries for the 60 lap PPB Race of Champions include Duane Howard, Craig VonDohren, Billy Decker, Matt Sheppard, Billy Pauch, Stewart Friesen, Danny Johnson, Pat Ward, Jeff Strunk, Rick Laubach, Larry Wight, Kevin Albert and Kevin Hirthler to name a few.

Adult admission prices for this event is $20, Students $15, Children 6-11 $5 and kids under the age of five will be admitted for free. The pit fee will be $25 and a license is not required.

Lawrence Chevrolet will be the sponsor of the a special pre-race "Meet & Greet". Legend Stars of the Lincoln Speedway include Smokey Snellbaker, Dizzy Dean, Bobby Allan, Lynn Paxton and Van May will be in the grandstand area from 5:30 PM to 7 PM to meet the fans attending "The Battle At Lincoln".

The possibility of some extra money is up for grabs with the BPF Specialty ROC &ROLL the Dice Challenge.

The BFP Specialty ROC & ROLL the Dice Challenge will work this way. Drivers will pay a $100 fee to participate. 100% of all money collected by BFP Specialty will be paid back to the winning driver, or highest finishing driver that participates. For example, the 60 lap modified feature is already paying $5,000 to the winner. If ten drivers participate in the BFP Specialty ROC & ROLL the Dice Challenge, and additional $1,000 will go to the winner. If twenty drivers participate, the main event will pay $7,000. In addition, every driver that enters the Challenge will receive a $25 certificate for BFP Specialty that may be used towards any purchase of $200 or more.

The BFP Specialty bonus will be paid out in victory to the winner of the 60 lap modified feature event. Drivers may send their BFP ROC & ROLL the Dice entry fee to:

And still another bonus is up for grabs for the modifieds on Tuesday night, July 12. In memory of Chad Miller, Award the winner of each modified heat will earn $50 to be paid on race night. Those who knew Chad, truly understand the special person he was and his over-riding love for racing, family and friends. We appreciate the heat race winner's bonus money and lets all work to preserve the memory of Chad Miller.

For the MACH 1 358/360 Sprint Challenge, there are some bonus opportunities as well. The event will pay $2,000 but if a driver pre-enters, first place will pay $3,000. The modifieds have not seen the red clay of Lincoln Speedway for over twenty-five years and since that time, the track layout has been re-configured.

MOTHER NATURE FAILS TO STOP 100TH NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES EVENT. . . . . .
TYLER WALKER AND DUANE HOWARD WIN THRILLERS BEFORE BIG CROWD TUESDAY NIGHT AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

Even with Mother Nature sending threats of bad weather, the staff of the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series challenged all the odds and successfully presented their 100TH event on Tuesday night at the Grandview Speedway. "Tonight marked a milestone event and Bruce Rogers and I were determined to run this show, and the large crowd that turned out with threatening weather made it all even more meaningful", commented event Co-Promoter Bob Miller. Tyler Walker earned $5,000 for his win in the third event of the 2011 Pennsylvania 410 Sprint Speed Week Series. Duane Howard of Oley, PA sorted out the traffic in the 25 lap 358 Modified feature to score the win. A doom and gloom weather forecast did not dampen the spirits of the drove of fans that turned on for the historic 100th Thunder Series event.

In 410 sprint time trials, Stevie Smith set fast time in the ZEMCO sprint car. The three heat race events were won by Brent Marks, Chad Layton and Greg Hodnett. The 358 Modifieds ran timed warm-ups to determine the starting positions in their heat race events. Heat race winners included Sammy Piazza, Jimmy Horton IV and Ryan Godown as Craig VonDohren won the consolation.

The 410 Sprint feature brought the crowd to their feet at numerous times during the 35 lap thriller. Sam Hafostope set the early pace with May Thunder feature winner Brian Leppo hot in the chase. The Hafostope and Leppo battle came to an end on lap four when they tangled and flipped in turn three trying to avoid a slower car. Both drivers walked away uninjured but unable to restart the feature event. Daryn Pittman took over the lead at that point and immediately had to battle off Tyler Walker. The freight-train of talent was on a mission with Lance Dewease, Stevie Smith and Fred Rahmer in the hunt.

On lap nine, Walker caught Pittman and made a serious bid for the lead. Pittman fought back and held the lead spot. As Pittman and Walker battled for the lead, third place runner Lance Dewease inched closer, making it a three car battle for the lead.

The move of the race came on lap twenty-two as Walker used lapped traffic to his advantage to take the lead from Pittman. With five laps remaining, Walker and Pittman were still the front runners with Dewease a close third, Fred Rahmer fourth and Stevie Smith fifth.

The caution was displayed on lap thirty-three for Lance Dewease who stopped with a flat tire. The restart was a "hold on to your seat" thriller as Fred Rahmer passed Pittman for second charging into turn one. Down the backstretch, Rahmer began to reel in Walker with Rahmer on the bottom and Walker up high and against the boiler-plate. With the white flag waiving, Rahmer once again dove to the bottom of the track and came within a car length of Walker for the run down the backstretch. Coming off the fourth turn on the final lap, Rahmer made one more attempt for the lead but Walker came home the winner. Rahmer earned a well deserved second place finish with Pittman third, Brian Montieth fourth and Stevie Smith fifth.

In the twenty-five lap 358 Modified feature, Rick Laubach immediately took the lead at the drop of the green flag. Ryan Watt, Kevin Hirthler and Doug Manmilller where in a battle for second as Duane Howard in his BPG modified was charging to the front. By lap eight, Howard was fourth and one lap later, it was Laubach, Watt and Howard at the front of the pack.

With the halfway sign showing, Laubach remained the leader with Howard closing in lap by lap. Kevin Hirthler ran third with Ryan Godown fourth and Watt in fifth. Howard used the high groove and continued to close in on Laubach and with five laps remaining, the lead was up for grabs. On lap twenty-three, lapped traffic was a factor and Laubach got pinched down low and Howard took the high lane around the leader and the slower traffic. Laubach tried to recover the lost position but on the final lap Ryan Godown made the past for second.

Howard took the win in very impressive style with Godown a solid second and Rick Laubach third. Jeff Strunk finished fourth with Doug Manmiller fifth.

The extremely popular and nationally acclaimed CARQUEST Gasoline Alley TV/Internet Show cranks up the airwaves on Monday evening with another fabulous edition of their show on June 27th as show hosts Ed and Steve Pados welcome in another blockbuster lineup of talented racing stars and personalities who join the Gang for the fastest, funniest, and most informative racing show in the country today. The show airs from 6 to 8 PM every Monday evening on channels 103 and 137 and worldwide on the Internet. Todd Szegedy, the 2003 Whelen Modified Tour Champion, rejoins the Gang to talk about his Sunday triumph at the Mondanock Speedway in New Hampshire and leading every lap of the event in capturing the win. With only four races into the Whelen schedule thus far in 2011, the series is wide open for big point swings in the next few races and Szegedy is seeking to regain the tile he won back in 2003. Two premier divisions of dirt track racing will share the spotlight at the Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, when NAPA Auto Parts present the 100th Thunder on the Hill event. It's only fitting that the 410 sprints and 358 modifieds come together for this spectacular double-header celebrating the long and successful history of Thunder on the Hill at the Grandview Speedway. Adult general admission for this event is just $20, children 6-11 $5 and children under the age of six will be admitted free. The pit fee is $25 and a license is not required.

Many give aways are planned including Thunder on the Hill water bottles along with several surprises including t-shirts from Vertical Telephone Systems and Lee Myles Transmissions. Of course, Joe the Pizza Dude will greet fans in his usual run through the grandstands.

The 410 sprints will compete in time trials, heat race qualifying and a 35 lap feature event as the 358 modifieds battle in a series of heat races, a consolation and a 25 lap feature.

Brian Leppo won the May Keystone Cup 410 sprint series event on the hill, holding off a determined Fast Freddie Rahmer. Lance Dewease, Greg Hodnett, Stevie Smith, Daryn Pittman and Mark Smith are some of the heavy hitters expected in the sprint car roster. In the modified field, expect May Thunder winner Jeff Strunk, Duane Howard, Mike Gular, Craig VonDohren, Kevin Hirthler, Rick Laubach and Doug Manmiller.

Gates will open at 5 PM with race time set for 7:30 PM.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Jerry Coons Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. leads the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Championship Series to Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa this Friday for the “Casey’s General Stores USAC Triple Crown 100” presented by Pioneer Hi-Bred First Class Credit Union & Boyer Petroleum.

Coons emerged as the series point leader after finishing second to Bobby East in last Saturday’s 100-miler at the Milwaukee Mile at Wisconsin State Fair Park. He is 21 points ahead of three drivers tied for second in the standings, Tanner Swanson, Bud Kaeding and defending series champ Levi Jones.

East, of Brownsburg, Ind., left fans with a memorable performance Saturday after coming from the back of the field on a restart at lap 35 to mow down the field in the Milwaukee 100 and claim the victory in his Joe Gibbs Racing Oil Beast/Ford. East led the first 20 laps but was moved back two positions for jumping the original start. Shortly thereafter he was moved to the rear of the field for another infraction and then the fireworks started in the form of his charge to the front.

Tanner Swanson led the restart at lap 21 but East climbed to the “top-10” by lap 38. He was ninth on lap 39, eighth on lap 41, seventh on lap 43 and sixth on lap 46. At half-way he moved to fifth, then took fourth one lap later. He passed Jerry Coons Jr. for third on lap 56 and caught runner-up Kyle Larson on lap 68 for second.

Pole winner Larson spun bringing out the yellow flag for a restart and on lap 75 East passed Swanson for the lead. At the checkered flag he was nearly a half-lap ahead of Coons, who passed Swanson on lap 98. Swanson was third, ahead of Bobby Santos III and Jacob Wilson.

A.J. Fike of Galesburg, Ill., who was 19th at Milwaukee after a tangle with Tracy Hines on the 25th lap of that race, is the defending Iowa Speedway Silver Crown race winner, but Kaeding has proven that he enjoys the Hawkeye state as well, winning a pair of AMSOIL USAC Sprint races at Knoxville and Oskaloosa last year.

Bobby Santos III, who finished second in both the Milwaukee Mopar National Midget and Traxxas Silver Crown races Saturday, won last year’s Iowa Speedway Midget race. The Mopar National Midgets are again on this Friday’s schedule at the 7/8-mile paved oval.

East holds the one-lap Iowa Speedway Silver Crown qualifying record at 143.000 mph, set last year, while Dave Steele, who has returned to the series for this year’s pavement races and will compete Friday, holds the 100-mile Iowa race record of 104.223 mph set in 2006.

Friday’s Iowa Speedway races are being held in conjunction with this weekend’s Iowa Corn Indy 250 IZOD Indycar Series race, scheduled for 8 pm Saturday. The USAC feature events are slated to begin at 8:30 pm Friday. Two 25-lap segments will comprise the 50-lap Mopar USAC National Midget race.
