Cory Eliason Leads All 30 Laps to Score First Career Outlaw Victory at Stockton
STOCKTON, CA - March 17, 2018 – California native Cory Eliason, aboard the famed Roth Motorsports No.83, dominated the FVP Platinum Battery Western Spring Shootout at Stockton to score his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory. Eliason, who scored a career-high second place finish last weekend at Tulare, survived numerous cautions to secure the hometown victory. Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Contender Ian Madsen finished second with Shane Stewart completing the podium.
Eliason won the Craftsman Club Dash, earning the pole for the 30-lap Feature alongside FVP-sponsored driver Brian Brown. Eliason powered out to the early lead on the 'elbows up' surface and reached lapped traffic on the fourth circuit.
The first of a handful of cautions came on lap 10, as the hole in turn three swallowed up Brown while he was running second. That allowed Rico Abreu to assume second on the restart. Three laps later, during a caution for Parker Price-Miller, Abreu surrendered his runner-up position and pulled into the work area.
When action resumed, Madsen found himself in second looking for a way around Eliason. But the Selma, CA native was masterful in traffic, never allowing the field to mount a serious challenge. The closest call of the night for Eliason was entering turn one on lap 24, as his No.83 car hit a rut and bobbled heavily.
Brad Sweet, while running in the top five, slowed to a stop with three laps remaining giving the field one last chance to steal a victory from Eliason. It was not meant to be tonight, Eliason was the class of the field as he distanced himself from the field on the restart to win by nearly two seconds.
“It feels great to finally get an Outlaw win. And at home, too,” an out-of-breath Eliason said in Victory Lane. “That track was technical and it definitely wore me out. Hopefully, we can another one next weekend,” Eliason added.
Ian Madsen was pleased with his runner-up finish, “We had nothing for those guys. Congrats to Cory on his first career win. This was a great night for our KCP team. We haven’t had much luck to start the season, so it’s great to a good night under our belt.”
Likewise, Shane Stewart was also happy for his first podium finish of 2018. “I don’t think it was the prettiest third-place run, but we’ll take it,” Stewart said with a chuckle. “We need some good runs to get our momentum rolling.” 10th-starting Carson Macedo followed up his top-five at Tulare with an impressive fourth-place finish. Tim Kaeding, aboard Jason Sides No. 7S, came from 13th to complete the top five.
During intermission, the World of Outlaws announced that the Brad Sweet Placerville Short Track Showdown has been postponed to Wednesday, September 12. The Outlaws continue their 40th Anniversary Season Friday, March 23 at Ocean Speedway before heading south to Bakersfield Speedway on Saturday, March 24. Tickets for both events are still available at woosprint.com. Reutzel Earns First Outlaw Win in Thunderbowl Thriller
TULARE, CA - March 9, 2018 - Texas native Aaron Reutzel scored his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory in thrilling fashion after exchanging multiple slide jobs with local driver Cory Eliason. A lap 20 yellow for then race leader Sheldon Haudenschild bunched the field together and Reutzel began picking off the leaders in exciting fashion. Eliason settled for second with Donny Schatz completing the podium.
Eliason, aboard the famed Roth Motorsports No.83, won the Craftsman Club Dash, earning the pole for the 35-lap Feature alongside fellow California native Jason Meyers. Eliason, in search of his first Outlaw victory, set the pace for the first 11 laps before giving way to red-hot Sheldon Haudenschild on the 12th circuit.
Sheldon, who set a new Tulare track record in qualifying, seemingly had the fastest car on the track and maneuvered the heavy lapped traffic well as he continued to extend his lead. Coming off of turn four on lap 18, Haudenschild got into the back of a lapped car and the Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall No.17 never settled down. Haudenschild muscled his ill-handling machine through turn one and two, before making heavy contact with the frontstretch wall at the completion of the lap, ending the young gun's bid for his third win of the young season.
Eliason assumed the lead, but this time with nine-time Series Champion Donny Schatz alongside of him. The young Visalia, CA native got a strong restart and established a sizeable lead over the veteran. Reutzel, who restarted sixth, came to life as he pounded the cushion, weaving in and out of cars grabbing third on lap 23 and passing Schatz two circuits later to claim the second spot.
Reutzel arrived at leader Eliason on lap 28 and the duo waged war for the top spot, as you would expect of two drivers looking for their first World of Outlaws victory. The duo exchanged sliders in each corner exciting the large Thunderbowl Raceway crowd. Reutzel secured the victory on lap 31 as he powered his Baughman/Reutzel owned No.87 around Eliason down the backstretch and pulled away for his first career Outlaw triumph.
"This is a dream come true. I've led a handful of Outlaw shows in the past, but never been able to finish the job; you start doubting yourself. It's something you don't think will ever happen," a jubilant Reutzel said. "It all played out perfect tonight. This track is truly special. It fits my driving style - gas it up on the fence. I am so lucky to have the people behind me that I do," the former 360-winged sprint car ace added.
Eliason settled for second and was in good spirits, "It's always tough when you are out front in traffic. Aaron drove a great race. Hopefully, the weather cooperates and we get another chance at it tomorrow," the Visalia, CA native said.
Schatz was also pleased with his podium finish as he extended his early Series points lead, "A top-three finish is very respectable for us at Tulare. We usually don't run too well on tracks like this."
Dominic Scelzi and 12th-starting Carson Macedo completed the top five. Tim Kaeding, aboard the Sides Motorsports No.7S, earned KSE Hard Charger honors coming from 16th to finish eighth in his first start for Sides. Action continues Saturday night at the Thunderbowl Raceway as the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tackles the high-banked bullring once again.

Schatz Gets Underneath Haudenschild Late to Win Third Feature of 2018 in FVP Outlaw Showdown at Las Vegas
Schatz, Haudenschild go one-two again, have combined for all five WoO Feature wins to open 2018
LAS VEGAS, NV - March 1, 2018 - Donny Schatz patiently chased Sheldon Haudenschild all Feature before taking the lead with five laps remaining to capture Night Two of the FVP Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Haudenschild led 25 laps but settled for second to continue his torrid start to 2018 with David Gravel coming from 12th to complete the podium.
Texas native Aaron Reutzel, in search of his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory, won the Craftsman Club Dash earning the pole, but it was Haudenschild getting the jump to lead lap one of the Feature. Schatz started fifth and began working the bottom of the speedway meticulously, yet effectively moving into third on lap six and by Reutzel into second one lap later.
Haudenschild's lead disappeared in traffic as he and the nine-time Series Champion were side by side at the line on lap 12. As the duo entered turn one, the lone Red Flag of the Feature halted action as Kerry Madsen got upside in turn two. Madsen walked away from the incident under his own power.
A lap 15 caution gave Schatz the opportunity to size up the Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall No. 17. The duo battled side-by-side for a pair of laps with the young Haudenschild pounding the cushion and the veteran Schatz smooth as can be on the bottom.
Two laps later, on another restart, Schatz slipped as far back as fifth but came back a man possessed and charged his way, on the bottom, back to the runner-up position in time for the final caution of the night, which flew on lap 22.
Haudenschild fended off Schatz for a trio of laps before lowering his line in turn three and four, allowing Schatz to get underneath him and lead lap 26. Sheldon got up on the wheel and made it close in the final laps but was unable to secure the sweep of the weekend, settling for second. .
"I felt like I ran 29 good laps and one not very good lap and Donny is great at capitalizing on any mistake," Haudenschild said after the race. "I'm still really happy with our performance this weekend. I can't thank NOS Energy Drink, the Marshall family and Ricky [Stenhouse Jr.] enough. We are having a lot of fun and that's what matters most," the Wooster, OH native added.
"Sheldon was really good on the cushion and I was kind of married to the bottom because I knew you are not going to pass him up there," Schatz, who has now won three of the five Outlaw races in 2018, said.
When asked about his hiccup and falling back on the restart, Schatz smiled and said, "Well, that's what it makes it fun. We made up for it. My guys gave me an awesome working race car and we are looking forward to Ricky [Warner] coming back to us, but we are hitting on all cylinders right now. Hopefully we can keep winning some more races," Schatz added.
For the second consecutive night, David Gravel charged from deep to a top-five finish, this time coming from 12th to complete the podium. "We are passing a lot of cars in the Feature, we just need to qualify better and get some better track position. Hats off to my guys, we had to change motors before Qualifying and we are able to bounce back," a pleased Gravel said.
FVP sponsored driver Brian Brown bounced back from a DNF in the Craftsman Club Dash to finish fourth with Reutzel completing the top five. Logan Schuchart earned KSE Hard Charger honors coming from 22nd to eighth.

Sheldon Haudenschild Survives Marathon Vegas Feature for Second Win of 2018
Haudenschild and SJM open 2018 Outlaw Season with two wins in four starts
LAS VEGAS, NV - February 28, 2017 - Sheldon Haudenschild and his new Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall racing are firing on all cylinders in 2018. Haudenschild assumed the lead after early leader Brian Brown slowed with a flat tire 10 laps in and held off veterans Donny Schatz and Tim Shaffer on numerous restarts to score the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory on Night 1 of the FVP Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. 10th-starting Donny Schatz and 12th-starting Brad Sweet completed the podium.
FVP sponsored driver Brian Brown was vying for a perfect night after setting fast time in Flight B of Qualifying, dominating his Heat and winning the Craftsman Club Dash. Brown led the first 10 laps of the Feature before succumbing to a flat tire in turn four, bringing out the first of many cautions in the 30-lap Feature.
Haudenschild, who had closed in on Brown significantly before his tire blew, assumed the lead with Shaffer to his inside. The next four laps saw three cautions for three different drivers. By the halfway point, Haudenschild separated himself from Shaffer and 16th-starting David Gravel and worked his way into third. A lap later, Donny Schatz blasted underneath Gravel and Shaffer to secure second.
Willie Croft slowed to a stop bringing out the caution with Schatz to the inside of Haudenschild. Brent Marks spun on the ensuing restart, setting up a single-file restart. The next start Logan Schuchart hit the infield tire in turn four and Cory Eliason did the same thing on attempt number three of Lap 21. Schuchart and Eliason, who were both competing for a top-five finish, did not return.
Ian Madsen slowed with seven to go forcing an Open Red and giving Schatz one more chance to steal the win away from Sheldon. It was not meant to be as Haudenschild powered away on the restart and went on to win by 1.417 seconds.
When asked about the multitude of restarts, Haudenschild said, "It was difficult. On one hand, you are happy because you get a couple of laps with a free track, but it gets hard to jump in front of guys like Shaffer and Schatz on consecutive restarts."
"To get a win here, where I don't have a lot of laps is awesome," the Wooster, OH native added. After capturing the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award last season without winning a Feature, Haudenschild has now won two of the four World of Outlaws races completed to open 2018.
Schatz, who edged in front of Haudenschild on one of the Lap 20 restarts only to have it negated by another caution, said, "That's the way racing is," before adding, "It was a handful out there, but the guys gave me a great car and we will settle for second tonight."
Sweet, who quietly worked his way forward late in the race, was happy with third, "It was a marathon," the Grass Valley, CA native said with a grin. "I got up there early and made a few mistakes. Luckily, we had a good enough car to get back up there. We'll be back tomorrow and hopefully put on a better show."
Shaffer and Gravel held on to complete the top five with Jason Johnson, 21st-starting Kerry Madsen, Daryn Pittman, Brent Marks and Jason Meyers completing the top ten. Despite bringing out the caution with 10 laps remaining, Brent Marks still earned KSE Hard Charger honors coming back to finish ninth.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Thursday evening for the conclusion of the FVP Outlaw Showdown. As always, you can catch all the action live on DIRTVision.com.

Schatz Masters Lapped Traffic to Capture Second Consecutive Win and First DIRTcar Nationals Championship
BARBERVILLE, FL – February 11, 2018 – Donny Schatz is starting 2018 firing on all cylinders, which is bad news for the rest of the competition. Schatz fought off a pesky Brian Brown early in the race and held off charges from Sheldon Haudenschild and Brad Sweet late to capture his fourth win in five nights at Volusia Speedway Park. Schatz, who has won just about everything to win in Sprint Car racing, captured his first ever DIRTcar Nationals Big Gator Championship.
Brian Brown won the Craftsman Club Dash earning the pole of the 30-lap Feature alongside Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year contender Parker Price-Miller. Brown was strong leading the opening circuit before Schatz flew underneath the FVP No.21 to lead lap two.
Rico Abreu brought out the lone yellow flag of the Feature on lap six. On the ensuing restart, Brown muscled his way back by Schatz to lead laps seven and eight before Schatz overtook him once again to lead lap nine and the rest of the way, despite challenges from Haudenschild and Sweet.
“We slowed down in traffic a lot,” Schatz said in Victory Lane. “We thought we had a solid car in the Dash, but this is the time to learn,” said the driver who won four of five Features at DIRTcar Nationals. “Sometimes you win some you shouldn’t, I think we were lucky we started up front,” a humble Schatz added before being awarded his first ever Big Gator trophy.
Friday night’s Feature winner Sheldon Haudenschild worked forward from his 13th starting spot into the top three on lap 12 and moved by Brown into second on lap 16. Haudenschild, who is in his first year with the Stenhouse Jr. – Marshall Racing No.17, brought the capacity crowd to their feet as he closed in on the Tony Stewart Racing No.15 but couldn’t pull the trigger.
“Catching Donny Schatz and passing Donny Schatz are two completely different things,” Sheldon said with a smile. While Sheldon had his eyes set on the No.15, Brad Sweet powered his NAPA Racing No.49 around the cushion, eventually overtaking Sheldon in turn two with five laps remaining.
Sweet closed on Schatz, but was never able to mount a series charge and settled for second - his fourth podium in five nights. “My guys worked hard all week and we are still chasing the 15. He makes us better though and we’ll take second,” Sweet said.
Jason Johnson finished his strong week with a fourth-place finish and 15th-starting Chad Kemenah completed the top five. Haudenschild picked up KSE Hard Charger honors advancing 10 positions.
That completes the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series portion of the 47th Annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park. The Outlaws return to action in two weeks in Texas at the Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, TX on Friday, February 23, 2018 and then LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, TX the following night Saturday, February 24. If you can’t make it to the track, you can catch all the action live on DIRTVision.com!

Schatz Extends DIRTcar Nationals Points Lead with First Outlaw Win of 2018
BARBERVILLE, FL – February 10, 2018 – Clearly, Donny Schatz has a flair for the dramatic in 2018. After sweeping All-Stars competition with a pair of thrilling victories, Schatz excited the DIRTcar Nationals standing room only crowd once again Saturday night, exchanging slide jobs with Jason Johnson en route to his 250th World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Feature victory. Johnson settled for second with Tim Shaffer, who rebounded from a nasty crash last night, completing the podium.
Johnson won the Craftsman Club Dash and set a torrid pace from the drop of the green. Paul McMahan and Tim Shaffer continued their fantastic battle from the Dash and went side-by-side for multiple laps battling for the runner-up position. That battle allowed Schatz to close in from his sixth position.
By the halfway point, Shaffer had established the position and Schatz had worked into third. Johnson continued to lead, maneuvering lapped traffic at a rapid pace. A lap 17 yellow for 2018 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year contender Parker Price-Miller cleared Johnson from the heavy traffic but allowed Schatz to restart on his bumper.
On the restart, Schatz quickly disposed of Shaffer and set his eyes on the Eunice, LA native. Johnson was able to keep Schatz at bay in clean air, but in traffic Schatz narrowed the gap quickly.
With three laps to go, Schatz engaged Johnson with a big slider arousing the huge DIRTcar Nationals crowd. Johnson turned back underneath the nine-time Series Champion, but Schatz prevailed to lead the white flag lap and never look back.
“That is what we live for,” Schatz said in reference of the slide job exchange with Johnson. “It had my heart pumping,” Donny added before asking the crowd if they enjoyed the show. “Good. Come back tomorrow, it will be even better.”
Johnson, despite leading 28 laps, was in good spirits, “I hesitated too long in traffic and Donny never hesitates. He is one of the toughest in the business,” Johnson said before praising his crew for their efforts.
Tim Shaffer and the Demyan-Rudzik Racing, who will follow the World of Outlaws through the entire month of March, put together a new car after flipping last night and Shaffer cited the quick turnaround was a part of racing. 10th-starting Brad Sweet and 18th-starting David Gravel had strong runs to complete the top five. Last night's winner, Sheldon Haudenschild picked up KSE Hard Charger honors coming from 21st to seventh.
Schatz’ victory extends his DIRTcar Nationals points lead to a monumental margin heading into the final night of Sprint Car racing at Volusia Sunday evening. As always, if you cannot make it to the track, watch live on DIRTVision.com.

Sheldon Haudenschild Thrills Capacity Crowd for First Career Outlaw Win on Opening Night of 40th Anniversary Season
BARBERVILLE, FL - Feb. 9, 2018 -Sheldon Haudenschild passed race-long leader Paul McMahan on a Lap 27 restart to win his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Feature in thrilling fashion at the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park. Haudenschild, in his first Outlaw start with the Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing No.17, assumed the runner-up position with three laps remaining after Ian Madsen caught the rut in turn one and landed on his side. The 2017 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year muscled his way underneath McMahan, who was nursing a flat tire, on the restart and never looked back for a popular victory in front of the standing room only crowd. McMahan held on for second with Shane Stewart completing the podium.
McMahan won the Craftsman Club Dash, earning him the pole on the opening night of the 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series 40th Anniversary Season alongside Madsen. McMahan, in search of his first Outlaw win since 2015, was strong all night and led the opening lap before a Red Flag for David Gravel and Tim Shaffer halted the action. Gravel and Shaffer were both uninjured, but the accident scene took some time to clean up, providing the first Open Red of the 2018 Season.
When action resumed, McMahan continued to show the way in his new ride for 2018, the Tom Buch 13. McMahan navigated traffic masterfully and survived another restart with 11 to go as Madsen threatened to take the lead.
With three laps remaining Madsen bounced hard in the looming rut in turn one and lost the handle of the KCP Racing No.18. That was all that Sheldon Haudenschild needed. Haudenschild pounced on McMahan down the backstretch, overtook the veteran and went on to win by 1.418 seconds.
“That was the plan. I saw [McMahan] had a tire going down. I wanted to square the car up and get underneath him on the backstretch,” an elated Haudenschild said in Victory Lane. “This team works incredibly hard. I can’t thank Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall and NOS Energy enough,” Sheldon added.
Obviously disappointed, McMahan also referenced his flat tire but credited Haudenschild for driving a great race. Stewart, who failed to qualify for last night’s All-Star Feature, was pleased with his team’s rebound effort. “I’ll take a podium finish on the first night. That is way better than we have been here in the past,” Stewart said with a smile.
Donny Schatz maintained his DIRTcar Nationals points lead coming from 14th to fourth with California’s Cory Eliason coming home an impressive fifth.
A DIRTcar Nationals event high 35 cars signed into action with Logan Schuchart setting fast time with a blistering lap of 12.975. Brent Marks scored the KSE Hard Charger Award coming from 25th to finish in the top ten.
Action resumes tomorrow at the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park. As always, you can catch all the action from DIRTcar Nationals and the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series 40th Anniversary Season on DIRTVision.com.
