BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—May 14, 2013— Five races in seven nights. If it was up to Kraig Kinser and just about most other drivers that’s how every week would be on the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series trail. For one week, the drivers will get their wish as the first East Coast Swing of the season will find the series hitting the track for five nights of racing at four different venues over the course of a one week period.

The East Coast Swing opens for Kinser aboard his Casey’s General Stores/Mesilla Valley Transportation Maxim on Wednesday, May 15 at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa. The series then heads to the legendary Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for a two-night event on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18. An overnight trip to New York will find the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown on Sunday, May 19. A return to New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey for the first time since 2007 is set for Tuesday, May 21.

“Along with being most of the busiest stretches of the season, the next week will be one of the toughest as well in terms of the competition we’ll face night in and night out,” said Kinser. “The guys in Pennsylvania know Lincoln and Williams Grove so well and they take a lot of pride in defending their home turf. We have to really be on our game heading out there.”

Kinser made his debut at Lincoln Speedway last season, as the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series made their first visit to the three-eighths-mile near Hanover, Pa., since 1998. He finished 24th in the main event, against a very strong field as 45 drivers who attempted to earn a spot in the 30-lapper.

The native of Bloomington, Ind., earned a pair of top-10 finishes at Williams Grove Speedway last season, including the best finish of his career at the half-mile during the Summernationals in July, when he came home fourth. Kinser followed that up by finishing seventh on the first night of the National Open in the fall. The third-generation driver has made a total of 28 main event starts at Williams Grove in his career, including preliminary features, dating back to 2003.

“We had a couple of good runs at Williams Grove last season, so hopefully we can use a little bit of what we learned on those nights when we go back this week,” Kinser stated. “First and foremost, you have to time trial well and put yourself in a position in the heat race to either make the dash or at least transfer into the feature. The whole night is a pretty intense one when you go up to Williams Grove and you have to be spot-on each time you hit the track.”

Last season Kinser finished 15th at Orange County Fair Speedway after losing a tire while running second on the final lap. He opened the event by turning the eighth-fastest lap in time trials and followed that up by winning the second heat race to earn a spot in the dash, where he came home second to secure a front row starting sport for the 25-lap main event. Kinser has made three starts in his career at Orange County, with the first of those coming in 2004, when he recorded a seventh-place finish.

“Orange County is Orange County, there is really no place like it,” he noted. “You certainly see the speed of a sprint there and the surface is pretty unique as well with how hard the clay is. Track position is pretty important there, so hopefully we can qualify in the right spot and get in the dash and have a chance to start near the front of the field.”

Kinser will be making the first start of his career at New Egypt Speedway as well as his first start in the state of New Jersey. The seventh-sixteenths-mile will be hosting the series for the first time since 2007 and the fifth time overall. Kinser has raced at three tracks for the first time this year. In his career he has three wins with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series when visiting a track for the first time.

“The series hasn’t been to New Egypt for a handful of years, so hopefully that is a bit of an advantage for me, since I’ve never been there at all,” Kinser shared. “Racing at bigger tracks each of the three races before at Williams Grove and Orange County, we should have a good baseline to start the night with and kind of know what direction we need to go.”

Kinser heads to the East Coast 12th in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship standings. He has eight top-10 finishes on the year, of which three are top-five performances.

Kraig Kinser Racing would like to thank Casey’s General Stores, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Maxim, Aerodine Composites, Sander Engineering, Integra Shocks, All Star Performance, FK Rod Ends, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, Bell, KSE Racing Products, ButlerBuilt, Schoenfeld Headers, Donovan Engineering, Fel-Pro, Brodix, Wilwood, Dyer’s, Barnes Systems, Ringer Gloves, Jakes Custom Golf Carts, and Ben Cook Racing Limited for their continued support.

Wolfe’s Wait is Over after World of Outlaws Win in Bloomington

He leads the final 22 laps and survives a green-white-checkered finish

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Aug. 3, 2012 — It’s finally over.

There were hugs and high fives, smiles and tears, greeting a subdued Lucas Wolfe in Victory Lane on a muggy Friday evening at Bloomington Speedway. Wolfe led the final 22 laps to claim his first career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series feature victory.

“I’m not very loud of any kind; I stay pretty even,” he said. “Obviously I’m usually this way on a terrible night and on the best of nights I stay pretty calm, but I’ll be pretty happy. I might do a bit of screaming in the helmet, but I’ll try to keep it pretty cool for right now.”

After many near wins during the last five seasons as an Outlaws driver and overcoming a gamut of mechanical woes this year, Wolfe had arguably the best car in Friday’s main event. He charged from his seventh starting position to the top three within the first 10 laps and took the lead before the midpoint. However, it wasn’t without drama.

Wolfe was leading by a straightaway with less than two laps remaining when the event’s second caution was waved for a spin by Kody Kinser in turn two. That erased Wolfe’s commanding advantage and he chose the inside lane on the double-file restart.

Wolfe powered into the lead, but the final caution came on the restart as Sammy Swindell and Kerry Madsen tangled in turn four. However, once again, Wolfe mastered the restart and drove away to the sizeable victory.

“I was a little bit worried about the double-file restarts from where the track might have got a little bit of rubber laid down, about how it was going to be to get going,” he said. “I felt the bottom was my best bet and obviously that was the wrong decision. I was able to get a good enough start there and obviously it didn’t count anyway because we had an accident.

“(I) certainly was happy to see it go back single file. That was a relief that we didn’t have to do anymore double-file restarts and were able to just finish it right there. I’d had enough; my nerves were about shot. (I was) certainly happy to finally finish a deal off.”

Joey Saldana, who led the first 18 laps after starting on the pole, lost the lead in traffic as Wolfe split him and a car about to be lapped while the trio raced down the backstretch. Saldana then held off Donny Schatz for the runner-up position.

“It’s well deserved,” Saldana said. “The guy’s been knocking on the door and having bad luck.

“He could maneuver through traffic really well. I could get through traffic as long as it went my way, but I couldn’t force the issue. I had to settle for second and I really had nothing for him.”

Both drivers shared a special moment with Wolfe in Victory Lane.

“I can still remember that feeling,” said Schatz as he reminisced about his first Outlaws win. “I’m happy for him. It’s been a long time coming. He should have won one long ago, but I’m sure tonight’s very special for him having to wait that long.”

Jason Sides passed Cody Darrah for fourth place on the final restart. Greg Wilson finished sixth, Kraig Kinser was seventh, Logan Schuchart ended eighth, Craig Dollansky placed ninth and Steve Kinser, who was involved in a flip on the opening lap and had to restart 21st, rounded out the top 10.

Smoke Remains Strong at Ohsweken

World of Outlaws

The NASCAR star earns his second World of Outlaws win this month and third overall

OHSWEKEN, Ontario — July 31, 2012 — Tony Stewart, Ohsweken Speedway and Victory Lane are beginning to become synonymous.

The NASCAR driver led all 30 laps on Tuesday to claim his third career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory and his second in a row at the 3/8-mile oval. Counting Monday’s win in Corr/Pak Sprints action, he has ended his last three events at Ohsweken Speedway a top the podium.

“Last year we won the thing running through the middle and tonight we were really good right on the top edge of the race track,” Stewart said. “It wasn’t really anything consistent between the nights. It’s just a neat, little race track. It’s a lot of fun. You can race all over the place.

“And what an honor it is to stand here with this group of guys. To win with the World of Outlaws is awesome.”

A year after picking up his first-ever Outlaws win, Stewart dominated in the return to Ohsweken Speedway in front of the largest crowd in the track’s history. He maneuvered from third to first in the opening turn of the dash and held off World of Outlaws championship standings leader Craig Dollansky for his first dash victory of the season.

That earned Stewart the pole for the feature on a track that had started to slick off early in the heat races. The main event was caution free and featured a variety of close calls throughout traffic for Stewart and Dollansky, who stayed within several car lengths the entire race.

“He’s rolling around here good,” said Dollansky, who has recorded a top three in four of his last five events. “He did last year and he did again this year. We were with him and working through lapped traffic. A couple things go a little bit different in lapped traffic, I think we had a shot at the win.”

The duo entered traffic on lap nine, which forced both to move around the track and leave the preferred top groove. Midway through the feature Stewart had to check up as a car slid in front of him exiting turn four, which allowed Dollansky to close to the rear bumper. However, Stewart maintained the position and later held off a late rally from Dollansky, who closed to within two car lengths on the final lap.

“You just had to play when you caught those guys a little bit and make sure you didn’t get to a part of the corner where you just got stuck,” Stewart said. “Just keeping the momentum up was the big thing just to get by those guys.”

Had there been a late caution, Tony Stewart Racing driver Steve Kinser could have played a spoiler role. Kinser charged from 12th to sixth in the first 12 laps and cracked the top five at the midpoint of the feature.

As Kraig Kinser worked past Donny Schatz for third place with five laps remaining, Steve Kinser split the duo and eventually gained third place on the ensuing lap. He finished third to earn a podium for the second consecutive race after starting in the middle of the field.

“We’re making recoveries, but that’s not the way to be doing it,” Kinser said.

Kraig Kinser, who set quick time in qualifying, placed fourth and Schatz was fifth. Cody Darrah ended sixth, Chad Kemenah seventh, Sammy Swindell eighth, Kerry Madsen ninth and Michael Parent charged from last – 24th – to round out the top 10 and earn the KSE Hard Charger Award.

Darrah, Schatz and Swindell each won a heat race, and Jamie Collard claimed the Last Chance Showdown.

‘The King’ ties Swindell for the World of Outlaws championship points lead

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — May 19, 2012 — Like they did in the ‘70s and ‘80s and ‘90s, Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell are battling for a World of Outlaws championship.

Swindell, who leads the series with four victories, has been in or around the points lead since the start of the season. Kinser has gotten hot recently and capitalized on the momentum.

He snapped a 27-race winless streak exactly a week ago and added to an impressive record on Saturday at Orange County Fair Speedway, where Kinser won for the sixth time in 22 features, claimed career Outlaws victory No. 572 and pulled into a tie atop the World of Outlaws championship standings with Swindell.

“It’s nothing that hasn’t happened many years before,” Kinser said of his renewed rivalry with Swindell.

Kinser led all 25 laps of the main event at the 5/8-mile oval, which has featured a different winner in the past six World of Outlaws events dating back to 1999. However, Kinser is a familiar face in Victory Lane.

He claimed the first race at Orange County Fair Speedway in 1983 and won five more within a decade. After starting on the pole on Saturday, it appeared that his sixth victory – which is twice as many as any other driver – was eminent.

Kinser rocketed to a 10-car advantage in front of son, Kraig Kinser, on the opening lap. The duo paced the field with Kraig beginning to close the gap on lap five. They entered traffic on the ninth lap and were side by side on the frontstretch of lap 10.

The elder maintained the lead and the preferred lane around the bottom. The race went cautionless until lap 21 when it became just the opposite.

There were eight cautions and a red flag for a fuel stop in the final five laps. In fact, only three drivers of the 24 starters weren’t involved in a caution or didn’t pull into the pits.

“I was up front where I could be a little bit easier on tires,” Kinser said. “I nursed mine as much as I could. We just barely made it ourselves.

“It’s a bad feeling when you’re sitting there leading the race and you’re seeing half the field change tires and put new tires on ….”

Kraig Kinser was one of the catastrophes as a tire issue on the final lap dropped him from the runner-up position to 15th. That allowed Swindell to gain a few positions in the final laps to salvage a second-place finish and keep himself tied for the points lead.

“When we took off I could see that guys were just slipping the tires way too much,” Swindell said. “This place is real abrasive, so I just sat back there and rode for half the race. I just wanted to make sure I had tires at the end.”

Frank Cozze earned the KSE Hard Charger Award after maneuvering from last – 24th – to place third.

“Well we got a little bit of luck out there with the guys with the tires,” he said. “Plus I’ve probably raced here about 35 or 36 years, so I kinda know the place. You’ve gotta kind of cool it at the beginning and get lucky. And we got lucky. If it had run straight through we would have run 15th.

“It feels pretty good to get a podium finish with anybody. I don’t care if it was Mickey Mouse at this point.”

Daryn Pittman rebounded from causing a caution on a restart of lap 22 because of a tire issue. He restarted 19th and finished fourth. David Gravel rounded out the top five after facing a similar fate because of a flat tire with three laps remaining.

Joey Saldana was sixth, Fred Rahmer seventh, Paul McMahan eighth, Craig Dollansky ninth and Lucas Wolfe placed 10th. All went to the work area at some point during those final five laps to fix a flat tire.

Logan Schuchart set fast time in qualifying with a lap of 17.336 seconds, which was more than four-tenths quicker than anyone else. Swindell outlasted Steve Kinser to win the first heat race and Kraig Kinser and McMahan also claimed a heat race. Davey Franek won the Last Chance Showdown.

The World of Outlaws head to Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Md., for the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet presents the Kasey Kahne Challenge brought to you by O’Neill Race Gear event on Sunday.
