Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer ushered in the start of Labor Day weekend on Friday evening and completed their fourteenth show of the season with a great seven division show and the special eliminator event for Sportsman racers sponsored by Race Director Dave Rocket and racer Jamie Yannone from Yannone Enterprises. While Mister Sun stayed away and a cloud cover remained over the speedway, the great crowd on hand enjoyed an excellent night of racing. The evening of speed was sponsored by long-time speedway supporters Tom's Repair Shop located in New Paltz, New York.
When the final tallies were recorded, "The Wild Child" Andy Bachetti switched rides to the Jimmy Winchell owned race car and waltzed off to his third win of the season at Accord in the Insinger Fuel Modifieds. "The Tornado" Tyler Johnston rocketed into the lead on lap eight and went on to capture his first win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman main event. Bob Sleight had his Camaro humming and scored his second win of the season in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature event. "The Captain" Jeremy Quick had a super fast hot rod as he raced to the lead early on to score his fifth win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature. Travis Green raced to his third win of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature. The Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder feature was captured by "Quick" Willie DeGraw as he scored his first ever win at the speedway. The Northeast Vintage Modifieds found Darryl Hulbert racing to his first ever Accord Speedway win in his Kennedy Garage replicar machine.
Ed Burgess and Nick Johnson brought the field down for the start of the thirty lap Insinger Fuels 30-lap headliner for the Modifieds. Burgess would lead for a lap and he would fall to the high flying Andy Bachetti as Bachetti took control of the event early on. A massive four car pile-up on the homestretch brought a halt to the action as the crash eliminated a three cars from the event. On the restart it was all Bachetti as a couple of laps later would find him riding the crest with a six car length lead. Danny Tyler broke free and began to drive away from the field with Rich Ricci Jr in a solid third. As the laps clicked off Bachetti remained in command and things behind him began to take on a new look as Anthony Perrego, riding a hot streak of late, found the line he was seeking and began to pick off cars in his march to the front. Perrego would race to third place late in the event but this night belonged to Bachetti as he dominated the action and scored his third win of the season at Accord. Danny Tyler was steady throughout the event and would settle for runner-up honors while Perrego was third. Rich Ricci Jr was fourth and the birthday boy Jimmy Wells would complete the top five. Mike Ricci would head up the second five with Danny Creeden seventh, Steve Davis raced back through the field to garner eighth place, Kyle VanDuser was ninth and Jesse Marks completed the top ten.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman event pole sitter Nick Plumstead jumped out into the lead in a new ride. Plumstead would lead until lap eight when Tyler Johnston, running third, would find a sweet spot between turns one and two to drive underneath Plumstead and second place man Charles Loiodice to take command of the lead. Once in front Johnston slipped away from the field while Cole Hentschel broke away and would race in second place. Two cars began to make their way forward through the very tough field as Kyle Rohner from eleventh and newcomer Alex Yankowski from fifteenth were taking no prisoners on their way forward. Tyler Johnston owned the event on this night as he sped to his first win of the season. Hentschel was the runner-up with Rohner in third place, Yankowski was fourth and Charles Loiodice, who continues to impress, was fifth. The second five found Nick Plumstead, RJ Smith, the returning Corey Cormier, Mike Senecal and Matt Shultz completing the top ten.
John Brown would lead from the first lap in the WRWD Rookie Sportsman headliner. Robbie Colburn and Travis Green kept the pressure on and Green would slip past Colburn and begin to reel in Brown. With five laps remaining Green had closed the gap to where the drivers were nose to tail. With two laps to go Green made a bid that fell short but after the white flag fell the pair raced into turn one when Brown slid high and Green dove to the bottom to stick the nose of his racer into the lead when Brown came off of the turn and connected with Green. Heads up by driving by both drivers allowed them to regain control of their cars and Green would race to the checkered flag for the win. Colburn slipped past Brown to gather in second place while Brown settled for third. Brian Durbin, Kyle Swart Erin Paulison and newcomer Dan Knoth would complete the field.
In the Upstate Auto Pure Stock event, Emerson Cargain would lead the initial lap before Bob Sleight took over the point. Steve Williams quickly made his bid for the lead and he and Sleight would race together for a couple of laps before Sleight gained the advantage. Sleight would race away to a six car advantage that remained throughout the remainder of the event. Sleight would score win number two for the season while Williams would settle for second. Cargain was third while Jay Smalley had a stout run in fourth and Steve Kanuk was fifth. Live Johnson headed up the second five with Travis Brockner, Rich Scott, the returning Mike DuBois Jr, newcomer Codi Clark, Tim Southard and John Hechinger.
Dan Malley would lead the first three laps of the Sprint feature event. Jeremy Quick would go to work and would begin to close in on Malley and would hustle into the lead on lap four. Quick had a fast hot rod and would distance himself from the field. A late scramble would bring the field together. Quick just had too much for the field and would score his fifth win of the season. D'Agostino secured runner-up honors and Jordan Lawrence, Mike Traver, Dan Malley, Mark Connoly and Andrew Davis would complete the field.
In the Fireballers feature, Brandon Conklin grabbed the lead at the start and would lead through the first three laps before yielding to Willie DeGraw. DeGraw did just enough to keep his racer in front while fending off challenges from Conklin, Jerry Kingeter and Richard Smith. Some slugging and slamming took place in the late stages that found DeGraw racing to his first ever win at Accord. Point leader Jerry Kingeter was second with Brandon Conklin third, Bill Rion fourth and Dave Bendell completing the top five.
The Northeast Vintage Modified event found Jimmy Halpin with a fast Dodge Coupe as he raced to the lead for the first five laps. Darryl Hulbert would do a slide job to take command of the event on lap six and a few laps later Mike Houghtaling slid into the rear of the Halpin machine and the action caught Ray See Sr with heavy front end damage. Houghtaling was disqualified from the event. On the restart, Hulbert had the speed and style to go on a capture his first ever win at Accord. Charlie Houghtaling was second with Bob Schmidt third, Bill Judge fourth and Jimmy Halpin recovering to claim fifth. Bill Leise headed up the second five with Doug Atkins, Mike Cole and John Atkins following.
GEMSTONES:
The track was in impeccable condition from top to bottom as Promoter Gary Palmer had a perfectly manicured speedway. Andy Bachetti had the fast time of the night in the Modifieds with a 13.5 second time with Rich Ricci Jr turning in second fat time with a 13.724 time..
Heat wins went to Rich Ricci Jr, Andy Bachetti and Danny Tyler in the Modified division. Three heats were needed for the Sportsman with wins going to Leo Fotopoulos, Danny Morgiewicz and Tyler Johnston. The Rookie Sportsman heat was captured by John Brown. Jeremy Quick captured the sprint car heat win. The Pure Stock heat wins went to Steve Williams and Bob Sleight. Fireball heat winners included Richard Smith and Brandon Conklin. Vintage heats went to Jimmy Halpin and Ray See Sr.

New faces found Ray See Jr and Steve Davis returning to competition. Davis had an early skirmish that sent him to the back of the field but he ran steady and smooth and wound up with an eighth place run. "The Gunslinger" Jesse Leiby found his way to Accord and was 14th in his initial outing. Leiby is a former four time champion at the speedway in the Slingshot divisions. Barry White made the long haul from Berks County to put in his first race at Accord in some time. John Lutes Jr also joined the field but was unfortunately caught up in the front stretch melee.
In the Sportsman, Alex Yankowski joined the field. The young charger will be crowned the Five Mile Point Sportsman champion and another title is looming at the Big Diamond Speedway. Alex is another of the fine driving talents that cut his teeth in the Slingshot divisions of racing. Mike Bull, Jimmy Leiby and Ryan McCartney also returned to the speedway. Dan Knoth, a former Pure Stock racer, raced with the rookies for the first time. Mike DuBois Jr, Codi Clark and Tim Southard also made appearances at Accord in the Pure Stock division.
Bob Harless escaped injury when his vintage coupe climbed the inside barrier on the homestretch.
The Sportsman Eliminator action found Kyle Rohner winning the grand prize of $300.00 while Danny Morgiewicz was second and earned $200.00 and Alex Van Pelt was third to earn $100.00. The rest of the top ten were Matt Shultz, Cole Hentschel, Leo Fotopoulos, Charles Loiodice, Anthony Recchio, Tyler Johnston and Ryan McCartney.
The Speedway announced throughout the evening the New York State Auto Racing Network Statement regarding Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. In New York, there are over 900 certified treatment and support program to assist anyone who has an ongoing problem with alcohol or substance abuse. Hamlin, PA: Mom & Pop Smith Memorial For Hampton RV Stage One Modifieds Headlines Saturday's Race Card At Hamlin Speedway

Hamlin Speedway, located in the picturesque Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, is closing in on the final three weeks of the 2018 racing season. With that, some special events remain on the horizon for the talented drivers and the great racing fans who have supported the speedway all season long. The racing action has been great all season long and more of it is expected as the season winds down and ushers in the Labor Day holiday this weekend.
This weekend on Saturday, September 1st, Hamlin Speedway will host the annual Mom & Pop Smith Memorial event for the Hampton RV And Trailer Stage One Modifieds. The headliner will feature the stars and cars of the Stage One Modified division and the exciting division has been growing all season at the speedway. Led by the defending track champion, "The Nickel Man" Joel Smith, the roster of talent for the division is as diverse as it is exciting. Smith leads the way with four wins in the division and is also doing double duty in the 600 Sprints and has scored one win in that division. "TVD" Tanner VanDoren, Adam Buchel and Cody Motto have each scored a pair of wins in the division and Motto is coming off a solid win from last Saturday night. "The Jeff-a" Jeff Hineline, "The Branchburg Bandit" John Comandini and "Chops" Anthony Chrobak have each scored single wins and all would like nothing more than to grab up another win at the speedway. Chrobak scored his win in only his second appearance in the division.
The supporting cast of division stars has been quality all of the way with Amanda Buchel putting on great shows all season long. "The Jersey Force" Anthony Recchio has been held winless in 2018 but the young driving star has scored two wins in the family owned Sportsman racer at Accord Speedway. "The J-Man" Jasper Ziegafuse recently took over the controls of the second Bachetti owned racer and has made great strides with the equipment. Jacob Nemeth is another of new racers at Hamlin and is now in his own equipment after purchasing the former Vreeland racer. "The Golden Boy" Evan Civick recently enjoyed a runner-up finish for his best performance of the season., John Bachetti Jr has gained a lot of momentum this season and along with Stoudsburg's Joel Price and many more, the division has enjoyed a stellar season in racing.
The event is an annual affair at the speedway named in honor of the Roy and Evelyn Smith. The Smith name has remained synonymous to the local racing scene for the past six decades as Roy Smith was a pioneer in the golden era of racing with his signature numbered 555 race cars that had many top drivers wheeling the equipment such as Freddy Adam, Bobby Bottcher, Billy Tanzosh, Mr. Del George, George Sleight, Marty Acker, Johnny Cabral, Warren Mutter and Richie Smith among them. With the passing of Evelyn Smith in January of 2018
at the age of 93, the tradition of the event will become the Mom & Pop Smith Memorial event. The 2012 winner was Joel Smith. In 2013 Pat Bealer was a surprise entry and captured the win. In 2014 and 2015 Joel Smith was back in victory lane. Damon Paul was victorious in 2016 and in 2017
"Rapid Rich" Smith, while leaving the driver's seat in the mid-90's, has utilized his years of knowledge while steering a race car to come up with a scaled version of the full sized Modified cars he drove to many wins during his driving career. The cutting edge, sleek looking Stage One Modified is the finished product from Smith Fabrications and the cars are eye-catchers when on display or at speed. Lap sponsorships are available for this great event. The laps are $10.00 each and all of the money collected will get distributed right back to the drivers. It is a great cause for the division as the racing has been exciting and competitive all season long. All lap sponsors will be named before the event goes green on Saturday night.
If you have not yet experienced an evening of racing at Hamlin, next week would be the ticket to come out and witness the best small car division racing in the country. With only three shows left in 2018, the drivers will have to be at their best should they have aspirations on earning a track title.

The Catskills Mountains of New York State provide some of the best scenery that can be found anywhere in the world. From the picturesque mountain tops to the lush green valleys, the area provides for a wonderful backdrop for a great Friday evening as the Accord Speedway springs back into action this coming Friday evening, August 31st with a seven division show that welcomes in Labor Day at the "Gem in the Catskills." The evening of speed will be sponsored by the good people at Tom's Repair Shop, who also sponsor a number of race cars at the facility. The six regular divisions and the Northeast Vintage Modifieds will go to war on the fast quarter miler and Accord Speedway Race Director Dave Rocket and racer Jamie Yannone from Yannone Enterprises will sponsor a special Sportsman Eliminator competition during the evening.
The event is sure to bring out a nice field of drivers and racing equipment as the event will serve as a starting point for the drivers who will be entering the spectacular "King of the Catskills" events scheduled for September 29th. The event will also serve a reminder for those with aspirations for a 2018 title shot to be at their very best with just three points races remaining in the points chases at the speedway. The points have been very tight in some of the divisions and it is always a special achievement to lay claim to a speedway championship.
Accord Speedway is also preparing for their third annual First Responders Night at the speedway which will take place on September 7th. Upstate Auto from Germantown, New York will be the headline sponsor for the night honoring all First Responders and the sky illuminaters from Santore's Famous Fireworks took will once again turn the night time into the day with their spectacular sky-works. The speedway has paid tribute to all of the First Responders who work so diligently to keep our home security safe. Headed up by Jim Silinsky and the Ulster County Sheriff's Office K9 Team, many pieces of equipment will arrive track-side for the annual tribute. her. The past few weeks of the summer of 2018 have been brutally unkind to track promoters in the Northeast while some have able to keep one step ahead of the whims of Mother Nature and keep their speedway gates open. Hamlin Speedway Promoters Randy and Denise Smith have been part of the lucky ones as the racing has gone on with great entertaining shows being presented. Saturday night was a carbon copy of some of the past weeks as seven divisions of racing thrilled the standing room only crowd of fans in attendance with a show that climaxed with the running of an unbelievable ten feature event program show capping off a great night of racing. More than 100 entries came out to the speedway for the high flying racing action. The evening of speed was sponsored by the good folks at S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Stroudsburg, PA. (www.ssspeedways.com) Some new winners found their way to the RLE Towing and Recovery Winners Circle at the end of the evening. The ten feature show was completed at 10:37 PM.
The Saturday night action found new winners emerging in some divisions while some veteran performers were at the top of their game to keep their own momentum going. "The Rockaway Rocket" Danny Buccafusca was flawless as he captured his second consecutive All Star Slingshot feature wheeling the Gilroy Motorsports hot rod to victory. Cody Motto found the zone and pedaled his way to his second 2018 win at Hamlin in the Motto Motorsports entry in the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modified feature headliner. The Super Slinger feature found "The Fighting Irishman" John Gilroy the class of the field with a dominating win. Two new winners emerged at Hamlin as Mike Thompson captured the first of two feature headliners while Aidan Borden scored his first win the second of the JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint finales. "Bad" Chad Sandt was all business as led all thirty laps to claim his third win of the season win of the season in the special Chad Wheeler Excavating Wingless 600 Sprint headliner. "Junior Excitement" JJ Rice captured his first win of the season in a very exciting Junior Slingshot event. Alex Reinsmith rolled to his third win of the season in the 270 Sprint feature attraction. "Lil Miss" Shelby McLaughlin raced to her fourth win of the season in the held-over Junior Slingshot finale. "The Oxford Express" Dale Kober captured his first All Star Slingshot win of the season in the held-over event from July 21st.
In the regular All Star Slingshot feature, Danny Buccafusca grabbed the lead at the start of the twenty lap main and quickly distanced himself from the field with some torrid 13.6 second laps around the 1/5th mile clay oval. Scott Neary found himself in a runner-up role and was fending off top notch competition with Wes Hearn and CJ Fritz applying the pressure. The night belonged to Buccafusca as he raced to his second consecutive main event victory. Neary was second with Hearn third, Fritz fourth and Jared Silfee claiming fifth place. New Yorker Tyler Banks headed up the second five with Paul Ennes, Dale Kober, Tanner Jones and Ashley Kober and Mason Pittenger completing the top ten.
In the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modified run, Cody Motto rocketed out front at the drop of the green flag and throughout the twenty laps of the event remained there as he scored win number two of the 2018 season. Adam Buchel, Tanner VanDoren and Amanda Buchel remained within striking distance and that would be how they came across the finish line. Joel Smith completed the top five. The second five found Anthony Recchio in sixth with Jeff Hineline, Anthony Chrobak, Jacob Nemeth and John Bachetti following.
The 270 Sprint feature found Glenn Macomber taking off with the lead at the start and he would lead for the first eight laps until mechanical woes sidelined him from the event. Alex Reinsmith inherited the lead and he would dominate the action to go on and claim his third win of the season. Kyle Ferrucci would claim runner-up honors while Anthony Chrobak finished third.
The Super Slingshot feature event found eleven entries going for the gold. Paul Ennes, with a front row start, jumped out front and would lead through five laps. A restart brought the field together and when the light went green Gilroy went fast as he took command of the event and would lead the rest of the way to claim what would be his first ever win at the speedway. Roger Collins raced from ninth to second to score runner-up honors. Wes Hearn, Dale Kober and Paul Ennes would finish as the top five. The second five was headed up by the returning "Flying Dutchman" Richie Van Orden as he returned racing after a long hiatus. Greg Zellman, Wally Bell, David Guest, Jim Conroy and Jan Gensits completed the field.
JJ Rice raced into the lead from his front row start and would lead every lap to earn hid first victory of the season at Hamlin. Lots of pressure came his way throughout the twenty lap event as Kasey Hufcut, Shelby McLaughlin and RJ Sherman were relentless in attempting to slip past Rice. Hufcut would try late in the race but slipped high to allow McLaughlin to race by. Rice would win over McLaughlin with Hufcut third. James Benz would race from eighth starting place to claim fourth at the end with RJ Sherman rounding out the top five. The second five found Brian Smith heading up that parade with Charlene Benz, Aidan Donaldson, Joey Kalafut and Austin Homan completing the top ten positions.
Zack Weisenfluh led the first nine laps of the first JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint encounter. A restart found newcomer Mike Thompson taking over the point and he would lead the rest of the way to claim his first ever Hamlin win. Weisenfluh was second with Noah Zielinski, Rich Maguire and Earl Rice completing the top five.
In the second JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 main, Aidan Borden raced to the front at the drop of the green flag and would lead every lap on his way to his first ever Hamlin Speedway victory. Brandon Nicholas kept pace and was the runner-up while Jack Hanna, the returning Scott Slater Jr and Dennis Chamberlain would round out the top five. Cody Powell headed up the next group with Dennis Stawinsky and Matt Zielinski following.
Chad Sandt took the lead at the start of the headliner Chad Wheeler Excavating 600 Sprint special event when he drove to the top of the raceway in turn one and powered his way into the lead. Sandt would receive extreme pressure from Colin White, Mick D'Agostino and Joey Amantea as the laps clicked off but Sandt proved up to be up to the task at hand on this night. White would trade slide jobs with Sandt throughout the event but Sandt would prevail each time. The top four were nose to tail throughout and the competition was top notch all of the way. Sandt would win his third feature of the season with White, D'Agostino and Amantea second through fourth. A late charge from 13th position brought Joel Smith a top five finish. Heading up the second five were Paul Richards Jr, Mike Thompson, Bobby Butler, Jacob Balliet and Joseph Smith. Fifteen starters completed all thirty laps.
In the held-over All Star event, Dale Kober took advantage of a front row start and would lead all of the way to earn his first feature win of the season in the division. Danny Buccafusca would capture runner-up honors while Tyler Banks, CJ Fritz and Wes Hearn completed the top five. The second five was headed up by Scott Neary with Rachel Dickinson, Adam Buchel, Jared Silfee and Ashley Kober.
The Junior Slingshot held-over event found Shelby McLaughlin leading every lap despite the constant pressure from Kasey Hufcut who would finish second. Aidan Donaldson raced to third while JJ Rice and James Benz completed the top five. The second five found Mikey Johannes, Joey Kalafut, Ashton DeWitt, RJ Sherman and Brian Smith following.
PEARL JAMS:
The hotly contested evening of racing entertainment was precise in every step of the way and even with a couple of breaks for track maintenance the staff kept moving the program along swiftly and the seven division, ten feature show was completed at 10:37 PM. Kudos to Randy Smith for an excellent track surface that found the drivers utilizing many racing channels throughout the evening of competition.
The JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 Sprints were captured by Jack Hanna and Mike Thompson. The Wingless 600 Sprints ran off two rounds of heats with Hunter Metzger and Colin White capturing the first set and Mike Thompson and Chad Sandt prevailing in round two. Kyle Ferrucci captured the 270 Sprint heat. Wally Bell won the Super Slingers heat event. Stage One Modified heats went to Joel Smith and Jeff Hineline.
Time Trials were the order for the All Star Slingshots and the Junior Slingshot divisions. Danny Buccafusca was the top time in the All Stars with a 14.098 second time over Scott Neary's 14.199 time. In the Junior division, Kasey Hufcut was the top timer with a 14.866 time, just nipping JJ Rice who timed at 14.891 seconds.
New faces emerged on Saturday night as Richie VanOrden made his return to Hamlin, where he enjoyed much success in the past. Brett Romer was a new entry as well. Anthony Chrobak was back in the saddle of the second Motto entry. Jan Gensits was on board in the Super Slingers. Brock Pinkerous and Jakoby Thompson were new arrivals for the Junior Slingshots while Evan VanValkneburg returned to action. Mike Thompson, Scott Slater Jr, Jake Eby and Bob Hummer were new Rookie 600 entries. Bobby Butler returned to the speedway while Zach Weidner and Don Colaluce made their first appearances in some time.
Even though the season is in the latter stages of the 2018 racing season, there is still plenty of hot racing action coming to close out the season. The Mom and Pop Smith Memorial for the Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modifieds will head up the Labor Day Show on August 31st as the speedway pays tribute to two of the pioneers of racing in the Northeast.

Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer completed their thirteenth Friday night show of the season last evening after being bombarded with four consecutive rainouts. Mother Nature has been extremely unkind for the past two months to speedway promoters and the overall population in the tri-state area. The crazy weather weather pattern in the Northeast in 2018 has proved to be a nightmare for speedways, amusement parks and resort areas with flooding, storm damage, closed roadways and to the farmers and their crops. Undaunted, the Palmer Family carried on and an exciting seven division show Friday night brought out the largest crowd of the season to not only enjoy the thrill of witnessing the hot racing action but to also see the mighty stars at Accord with the annual Camera and Autograph night. The event was a resounding success as a large crowd went track side to be among their racing idols. For the great roster of drivers who compete at Accord the joy of making the special trip to the WRWD Radio Victory Lane is a highlight for each driver who has done his or her homework to enjoy the sweet celebration that follows. The weather fully cooperated and the enthusiastic crowd came out to the speedway to enjoy a superb evening of speed. When the final tallies were recorded, "The Montgomery Missile" Anthony Perrego had the hot ticket and went on to capture his second win of the season at Accord in the Insinger Fuel Modifieds. "The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner hung tough all night long and struck late with a hard charge towards the end to capture the Arkel Motors Sportsman "Joe Giachinta Memorial" main event for his sixth win of the season. Steve Williams was on point and scored his third win of the season in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature attraction. "The Captain" Jeremy Quick had a super fast hot rod as he overcame huge early lead by Mick D’Agostino to score his fourth win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature. Robbie Colbyrn's misfortune turned into a windfall for Michael Corbin as Colbyrn's car failed him on on a restart and Corbin raced to his second win of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature. The Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder feature was captured by Richard Smith as he scored his fourth win of the season. Smith came back for the Enduro event and captured the win in a race shortened by a gas spill after 22-laps were recorded in the books.
Mark Pullen and Nick Johnston brought the field down for the start of the thirty lap Insinger Fuels 30-lap headliner for the Modifieds. Pullen led the first two laps and then spun on lap three triggering a massive front stretch pile-up that eliminated a few cars from the event. On the restart Joe Judge flexed his right foot and grabbed up the lead with immediate pressure coming from Anthony Perrego, Danny Tyler and Andy Bachetti. Judge would lead until lap twelve when Perrego pulled a slider and took over control of the event. Perrego would lead but now would receive heavy pressure from Judge and Andy Bachetti. Bachetti would slip past Judge and chase Perrego but a collapsed front end put him into the concrete on lap-29. Perrego would prevail for his second win of the season. Joe Judge, who admitted had been struggling with set-ups during the season, found the correct dial as he stayed in the hunt for a runner-up finish, his best finish of the season. Danny Creeden rallied to claim third place while Mike Ricci and Rich Ricci Jr completed the top five. Allison Ricci headed up the second five with a great run after starting in 20th position. Jesse Marks, Rich Ricci III, Rich Eurich and newcomer Rich Coons completed the top ten.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman event pole sitter RJ Smith sprinting into the lead at the drop of the green flag as he out raced Daniel Morgiewicz for the early lead. Smith threatened to runaway and hide early on but a caution for the slowing Tyler Johnston brought out the caution. On the restart, Smith would lead but Kyle Rohner was on the march and began to size up the landscape as he pulled into the runner-up slot. Rohner tried the lowside at different ends of the speedway but Smith held tough and continued to lead. Rohner made the winning move on lap-22 as he got a great run off of the backstretch to push the nose of his race car into the lead. Once in front Rohner sped to the checkered flag and earned a $1,000.00 prize for his efforts. Smith was a strong runner-up with Cole Hentschel finishing third making it a 1-2-3 sweep for the Smith Team. Charlie Loiodice was fourth in a great run and his best finish since transitioning over from the Rookie ranks. Matt Shultz completed the top five after starting from twelfth position. Daniel Morgiewicz headed up the second five with Alex VanPelt, Leo Fotopoulos, Anthony Recchio and Chris VanDuser completing the top ten.
Robbie Colbyrn would lead from the first lap in the WRWD Rookie Sportsman headliner. Michael Corbin and Travis Green kept the pressure on but Colbyrn began stretching the lead until newcomer Zackery Murray spun in turn two. On the restart Colbyrn's car would not respond and Michael Corbin jumped into the lead. Travis Green came up quickly to challenge and the pair waged a war until the checkered flag with Corbin scoring the win with Green in second. John Brown raced to third with Brian Durbin fourth and Travis Cogswell finishing fifth. Zackery Murray and Erin Paulison completed the field.
In the Upstate Auto Pure Stock event, Steve Williams was textbook all of the way as he wired the field on his way to his third win of the season. Bob Sleight would score runner-up honors and Travis Brockner, John Hechinger and the returning Kevin Skelly completing the top five. Jay Samlley, Emerson Cargain, Rich Scott and Ray Tarantino completed the field.
A green flag scramble at the start allowed Mick D'Agostino to bust out to a huge lead early in the encounter. Jeremy Quick would go to work and would begin to shrink the margin. Quick hustled and closed in when D'Agostino got into slower traffic and Quick would take over the point on lap twelve. Once in front, Quick stepped away from the field to go and capture his fourth win of the season. D'Agostino was second with Andrew Davis, Jordan Lawrence, Gary Huston, Mike Traver, Mark Connolly and Kyle Pugliese completing the field.
In the Fireballers feature, Nicole Nelson grabbed the lead at the start and would lead the first four laps before Richard Smith found room at the top to slip past her. Once in front the show belonged to Smith as he led the rest of the way in the lap shortened event for his fourth win of the season. Brandon Conklin was the runner-up in a strong run while Jeff Degroat was third, Nicole Nelson fourth and Jerry Kingeter rounding out the top five in the 22-car field. Ed King headed up the second five with Jesse Torrens, Ryan Heady, Robert Phillips and Ken Barringer completing the top ten.
In the Enduro finale, Dave Donovan led the first lap before limping into the infield. Brandon Conklin took over the lead and would lead until lap number eleven when Richard Smith slipped past for the lead. Smith would carve out a big lead and would be declared the winner when one of the competitors encountered a leaky gas tank necessitating a long clean-up. Jeff Degroat was second with Matt Guadagno, Dave Bendell and Cody Helms completing the top five.
GEMSTONES:
The track was in impeccable condition from top to bottom as Promoter Gary Palmer had a perfectly manicured speedway. Many favorable comments came from the drivers during the interview sessions at trackside during the camera and autograph time allotment.
Heat wins went to Anthony Perrego, Danny Creeden and Danny Tyler in the Modified division. Three heats were needed for the Sportsman with wins going to RJ Smith,Charlie Loiodice and Tyler Johnston. The Rookie Sportsman heats were claimed by Robbie Colbyrn and Michael Corbin. Jeremy Quick captured the sprint car heat win. The Pure Stock heat wins went to Bob Sleight and Travis Brockner. Fireball heat winners included Jerry Kingeter, Willie DeGraw and Ed King.
The Camera and Autograph sessions are always a big hit for the fans at the speedway. Many of the drivers offered up profile cards and candy to their fans in a span of about 45 minutes.
Grandma Anne's Pies were distributed to the feature winners while two additional pies were handed out during the 50/50 raffle.
A big thank you goes out to Mid Hudson Concrete and Shakelton Auto Parts for their participation at the speedway. Additionally, much thanks to Mid Hudson Concrete adding extra money to the Sportsman feature payout.
Announcer Steve Pados gave a heartfelt eulogy to pioneer racing photographer John Grady who passed away August 18th.

Hamlin Speedway Promoters Randy and Denise Smith were perfect in presentation of their twelfth show of the season on Saturday evening as another eight feature event card produced a great night of racing entertainment. With the weather cooperating fully in what may have been the best weather of the season, a large crowd was on hand and a great roster of driving talent strutted their stuff on the 1/5th Mile clay cushioned oval to perfection. With the season heading into it's final chapter for the 2018 racing season, each event is a "gots to be there" for those with aspirations for a title shot. The evening of speed was sponsored by the good folks at S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Stroudsburg, PA. (www.ssspeedways.com) Eight winners found their way to the RLE Towing and Recovery Winners Circle at the end of the evening and it marked the initial appearance of the Xcel Chassis 600 Modified Tour event at the Hamlin stomping grounds.
The Saturday night action found new winners emerging in some divisions while some veteran performers were at the top of their game to keep their momentum going. "The Rockaway Rocket" Danny Buccafusca was flawless as he captured his first All Star Slingshot feature in some time wheeling the Gilroy Motorsports hot rod to victory. In only his second start in the division, "Chops" Anthony Chrobak pedaled his way to his first ever win at Hamlin in the Motto Motorsports second entry in the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modified feature headliner. The Super Slinger feature found Jimmy Conroy whistling up his first ever win as he wired the field and held-off a late charge by John Gilroy to collect the win. Stephen Weirich returned to Hamlin after a lengthy hiatus and drove to victory and dominated the event with a wire to wire triumph for his win of the season in the JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint finale. "The Nickel Man" Joel Smith made a run to the top of the speedway to grab the lead and go on to his first win of the season in the Chad Wheeler Excavating Wingless 600 Sprint headliner. "Lil Miss" Shelby McLaughlin raced to her third win of the season in the Junior Slingshot finale. Paul Richards Jr hopped a ride in the second Macomber racer and dominated all twenty laps as the former division track champion captured the 270 Sprint feature. Flemington, New Jersey's Korey Inglin found the fast lane around the Hamlin Speedway just before the midway point and went on to capture the first ever feature event at the speedway for the Xcel Chassis 600 Modifieds.
Danny Buccafusca grabbed the lead at the start of the All Star Slingshot twenty lap main and quickly found the zone with his fast race car with 13.6 second lap times and dominated all twenty laps of the All Star Slingshot feature. Dale Kober would finish in the runner-up slot with Scott Neary third, Tyler Banks fourth and Austin Silfee rounding out the top five. Tanner Jones headed up the second five with Adam Buchel, Rachel Dickinson, Taylor Mills, Ashley Kober and Mason Pittenger completing the field.
In the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modified run, Evan Civick was the early leader and has been fast for the past month and a half. Jacob Nemeth ran second with Anthony Chrobak third and Joel Smith riding in fourth place. A scramble on the back stretch had cars scattering but all would continue on. Chrobak was able to nestle in behind Civick and watched his every move with Nemeth and Smith very much in contention. Chrobak moved up a lane and pulled even with Civick and the pair would race into turns one and two side by side. Chrobak mustered up the speed and came off of turn two with the lead although Civick made a couple of attempts to regain the lead. Chrobak found the zone he wanted and clocked some 13.146 times to drive away to his first ever win in the division and at Hamlin. Evan Civick was strong throughout to record a fine runner-up finish with Nemeth a solid third, Joel Smith fourth and Jasper Ziegafuse fifth. The remainder of the field consisted of Cody Motto, Anthony Recchio, Tanner VanDoren, Amanda Buchel, Adam Buchel, Jeff Hineline and Joel Price.
The 270 Sprint feature found Paul Richards Jr taking off with the lead at the start and the former track champion drove away from the field with lap times in the 11.8 second range to claim his first win of the season. Newcomer Stephen Weirich had a great night at Hamlin as he was the runner-up in the event after securing a win in the Rookie 600 Main. Alex Reinsmith was third while Glenn Macomber was fourth and Anthony Chrobak was fifth. Kyle Ferrucci suffered early woes and was a scratch for the evening.
The Super Slingshot feature event found Jimmy Conroy with a front row start and a big right foot as he got off to a great start and jumped out to a big early lead. Dale Kober settled into second place and John Gilroy drove from fifth into third. As the laps clicked off, Conroy was in command but Kober and Gilroy would race each other hard to keep pace with Conroy. The pair began to whittle away at Conroy's big lead and Gilroy would drive by Kober and set sail for Conroy. Gilroy clipped off some 13.8 second lap times to close in on Conroy at the finish but Conroy would be the very happy camper in the RLE Towing and Recovery Winner's Circle. Gilroy was a close second with Kober third, Wally Bell fourth and Greg Zellman and David Guest following.
Shelby McLaughlin raced into the lead from her front row start and would lead every lap to earn her second victory of the season at Hamlin. Brain Smith would finish as the runner-up with Joey Kalafut in third, Kasey Hufcut fourth and James Benz completing the top five. The second five found JJ Rice, Aidan Donaldson, Austin Homan, James Hendricks and the birthday girl Charlene Benz completing the top ten positions.
The returning Stephen Weirich led the first seven laps of the JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint encounter. A hush came over the crowd when Craig Rochelle began flipping down the backstretch and landed in a grinding heap in turn three. The emergency team at the speedway assisted in getting a visibly shaken Rochelle from his wrecked car. Rochelle complained of soreness but otherwise walked away from a very scary incident. When racing resumed it would be Weirich leading but driving into second place was the hard charging Zack Weisenfluh. Weisenfluh would dog Weirich the rest of the way but it would be Weirich earning his first win of the season. Weisenfluh was second with Dennis Stawinsky third, Noah Zielinski fourth and Brandon Nicholas fifth. The second five included Ryan Lacoe, Fred Heinly, Dennis Chamberlain Jacob Eby and Richie Maguire.
Joel Smith took the lead at the start of the headliner Chad Wheeler Excavating 600 Sprint even when he went to the top of the raceway in turn one and lead-footed his way into the lead. Smith would receive pressure from Joseph Smith as the laps clicked off but Joel Smith would lead all of the way to claim his first 600 Sprint win of the season. Joseph Smith was second while Paul Richards Jr, Joe Nemeth and Tyler Lindsay would complete the top five. Mick D'Agostino headed up the second five with Jacob Balliet, Justin Mills, Cody Smith and Pat Bealer completing the top ten.
The Xcel Chassis 600 Modified Tour was a barn-burner from the start. With a stout field of talent showing up for their initial Hamlin encounter, Shawna Schibilia led the first seven laps of the event. A third turn scramble took out Olivia Schmeltzer and Kevin VanValkenburg. On the restart Korey Inglin went to the baseline in turn one and grabbed the lead over Schibilia who in turn tried to take the lead back. As the laps clicked off, contenders began to emerge as the racing was quick throughout the field. A restart in lap fourteen allowed for an all out shootout as Series point leader Richie Hitzler made some great moves to make his way close to Inglin but it would be Inglin finding the history books in the first Xcel feature at Hamlin. Hitzler would finish second while Travis Fichter, Shawna Schibilia and Brandon Graner would complete the top five. Hunter Deihl, Sam Schicchitano, Bailey Boyd, Jasper Ziegafuse,and Dakota Kohler would complete the top ten. A total of 24 cars came out for the initial Xcel event at Hamlin.
PEARL JAMS:
The hotly contested evening of racing entertainment was precise in every step of the way and even with a couple of breaks for track maintenance the staff kept moving the program along swiftly and the eight division show was completed at 10:35 PM. Kudos to Randy Smith for an excellent track surface.
The Junior Slingshot heats were won by newcomer RJ Sherman and JJ Rice. Newcomer Fred Heinly and Dennis Chamberlian captured the heat wins in JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 Sprints. The 600 Sprints ran off two heats with Paul Richards Jr and Joseph Smith claiming the wins. Dale Kober and Danny Buccafusca captured heat wins in the All Star Slingshots. Stage One Modified heats went to Anthony Chrobak and Jasper Ziegafuse. The Super Slinger heat went to Jimmy Conroy and Paul Richards Jr captured the heat win for the 270 Sprints.
Three heats were run by the Xcel 600 group with Korey Inglin, Brian Blankenbillar and Richie Hitzler capturing wins.

The event will also mark the Briggs & Stratton Speed-week All Star Slingshot Tour. Five Hundred Dollars to win is on the line with 24 entries.

Hamlin Speedway Promoters Randy and Denise Smith were perfect in presentation of their eleventh show of the season on Saturday evening as an eight feature event had the small village of Hamlin, Pennsylvania absolutely rocking. A large crowd was on hand as good weather and a great roster of drivers worked the 1/5th Mile clay cushioned oval all night long with moves like Jagger and speed to burn. With the heavy duty rain that fell during the week the track was a tad slower than usual but the racing action was tight and just right for a Saturday evening of affordable entertainment. With the season heading into it's final chapter for 2018, each event is a must for those with aspirations for a title shot. The evening of speed was sponsored by the good folks at S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Stroudsburg, PA. (www.ssspeedways.com) Eight winners found their way to the RLE Towing and Recovery Winners Circle at the end of the evening.
Saturday night winners found Jared Silfee spot on as he captured his first Hamlin win in 2018 in the All Star Slingshot headliner. "TVD" Tanner VanDoren had the hot ticket and heavy right foot as he pedaled his way to his second win of the season in the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modifed feature run. The Super Slinger feature found "The Ambassador" Wes Hearn up to the task as he dominated the action in collecting his fifth feature win of the season. Morgan Rochelle made an appearance at the speedway and sizzled the clay in a wire to wire triumph for her second win of the season in the 270 Sprint main event. "The Zack Attack" Zack Bealer was the factor reactor in his Russ Thornton owned racer as wired the field to score his second straight win of the season in the Chad Wheeler Excavating Wingless 600 Sprint headliner. The JPA Masonry Rookie 600 Sprint division found "The Jersey Express" Dennis Chamberlain with the hot hand as he drove away from the drop of the green to score his first ever win in 2018. "Lil Miss" Shelby McLaughlin was fast from the get go and drove away from the field to collect her second win of the season in the Junior Slingshot finale. He missed the June event but was back in business on Saturday night and "KW Speed" Kevin White worked hard to make it happen in a stellar field of NASCAR Crew Guys to lead the final laps to leave the Poconos with a feature event in the NASCAR Crew Challenge.
Jared Silfee grabbed the lead at the start of the All Star Slingshot twenty lap main and that and a fast race car was all he needed to dominated the action and race to his initial win of the Hamlin season. Hitting 14.2 second laps with precision allowed Silfee to lead the entire event with room to spare. The returning Taylor Mills chased Silfee all of the way but he had his hands full with a determined Danny Buccafusca but it would be Mills in the runner-up role with Buccafusca in third. Troy Langendoerfer and Wes Hearn completed the top five. Heading up the second five was Dale Kober with Austin Silfee, Tanner Jones, the returning Marc Daniels and Scott Neary completing the top ten.
In the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modified run, "TVD" Tanner VanDoren was quick on the throttle and grabbed the early lead. Joel Smith wouls climb into second early and began to pressure VanDoren. The show became the youngster versus the veteran as the racing was close and as many as six drivers were vying for the lead throughout the twenty laps. VanDoren held his ground and went on to capture his second win of the season in the division. Joel Smith was second with Adam Buchel racing to the checkered flag to claim third and Jasper Ziegafuse fourth and Jeff Hineline completing the top five. The second five consisted of John Comandini, Amanda Buchel, Evan Civick, Cody Motto and Quarter Midget star Mark Evans.
The 270 Sprint feature found Morgan Rochelle in a speed zone as the young driving star took off from her outside starting position and drove away from the field at will to claim her second win of the season. Turning consistent laps at 12 seconds per lap, Rochelle won with Glenn Macomber second, Anthony Chrobak third in his best finish of the season on a part time basis, Jaocb by fourth, Alex Reinsmith and Kyle Ferrucci completing the field.
The Super Slingshot feature event found Wes Hearn with a front row start and the many time track champion found that was the ticket as he raced away early and would earn his fifth win of the season. Dale Kober kept pace and closed late but would settle for runner-up honors. The returning John Gilroy still knew the feast way around Hamlin and finished a close third with Roger Collins and Kevin White finishing off the top five. David Guest ran his best event of the season and headed up the second five with Wally Bell, Derek DeSilva, the returning Jeff Haduck and Mark Exeter completing the field.

The second five found JJ Rice, Aidan Donaldson, Austin Homan, James Hendricks and the birthday girl Charlene Benz completing the top ten positions.
Earl Rice led the first three laps of the JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint encounter. Sixth place starting Dennis Chamblerlain made great use of the upper channels of the speedway and would take over the lead on a fourth lap restart. Chamberlain was flawless from the top side as he built up a huge advantage over runner-up Zack Weisenfluh. Chamberlain cranked off some 12.4 second lap times to control the field even though Weisenfluh put on a great show to keep pace. Chamberlain would go on to score his first ever win at Hamlin with Weisenfluh the runner-up. Tony Parlanti was third with Noah Zielinski from a 17th place start in fourth and Brandon Nicholas from 14th to nail down a top five finish. The second five included Matt Zielinski, newcomer Fred Heinly, Richie Maguire, Ryan Lacoe and Rich Maguire.
Zack Bealer took the lead at the start of the headliner Chad Wheeler Excavating 600 Sprint event. Bealer was able to turn some 12.4 second laps early on but had Mick D'Agostino turning times just as quickly and looking to make a move each step of the way. Chad Sandt joined the duo and the event turned into a three car breakway with the driving stars attempting to out-maneuver each other at every turn. Bealer was on his A-game and would earn his second straight win of the season. D'Agostino, Sandt, the returning Jacob Balliet and Paul Richards Jr completed the top five. Duane White continued his great work at the speedway as he headed up the second five with Joseph Smith, Mack Brink, Tyler Lindsay and Jason Rochelle completing the top ten.
The NASCAR Crew Challenge part two was an interesting affair. David Cropps led the first twelve laps of the event but he and Brad Tunney got together in between turns one and two and both spun out. On the restart, upstart Dale Larson drove into the lead but a lap later Cropps was back out front. Cropps would lead through lap seventeen when Kevin White coaxed some additional speed out of his race car and he went on to capture the win. Dale Larson would finish in the runner-up role in his first NASCAR event with Jamie Edwards finishing third, Tony Consentino fourth and Eric Burgoyne completing the top five. The rest of the finishing order were David Cropps, Robert Miolen and Brad Tunney.

Newcomers and returnees who made their way to the speedway last night included Marc Daniels, Taylor Mills and Mike Lapicki in the All Star Slingshots. Quarter Midget star Mark Evans tried out the second Motto Motorsports entry. John Gilroy, Derek DeSilva, Jeff Haduck and Wally Bell were new Super Slinger entries. Evan VanValkenburg made his second Junior Slingshot start. Fred Heinly joined the 600 Sprints. Bob Hummer and Heinly made 600 Rookie starts. Jacob Balliet made his return to the speedway and left Hamlin with a top five finish in his return to action. Justin Mills
Some familiar faces from years past were at Hamlin last evening. "The Rocket" Ronnie Dunstan and his life companion Glenna Henry are up from Florida and took in the races and spent some time with their many friends at the speedway including the Smith Family and announcer Steve Pados. The Rochelle Family was in competition and Ronnie and Gleena were there to cheer them on. Former Hamlin racers Paul Quear, Tex Snyder were in attendance and former stock car and midget star Bing Metz was taking in the action.
A moment of silence and a fond remembrance was offered for Hamlin Speedway Videographer Barry Boyd who passed away July 19th at the age of 76.
A quick intermission period allowed the fans to ask the NASCAR Crew guys some questions regarding the work they do in the NASCAR garage and White, who is working on the Halmar-Freisen Team, offer to the fans some posters of Stewart Freisen and his truck ride.
