RYAN GODOWN WINS 2ND ANNUAL MONEY IN THE MOUNTAINS EVENT, MERKEL WINS LATE MODELS, ROADRUNNERS TO HABLETT

MINERSVILLE, PA - April 6th, 2014

"We came here saying we would be content if we could go home with a top 5 finish. But this car is a rocket ship. It's a rocket ship at Syracuse, it's a rocket ship at New Egypt, and it was a rocket ship here today. My guys worked hard on the car and the effort paid off."

Those were just a few of the words uttered by Ryan Godown in victory lane after dominating the 2nd annual Money in the Mountains big block/small block challenge event at Big Diamond Speedway.

Jeff Strunk drove into the lead from his outside pole position, leading the first nine laps while Godown was quickly moving forward from his 6th place starting position. On lap 10 Godown made his move, powering around Strunk in turn two to take a lead he would never give up. Godown continued to lead lap after lap, while behind him a fierce battle had developed between Strunk and Erick Rudolph, making his first ever visit to Big Diamond Speedway. Rudolph managed to wrestle 2nd position away from Strunk on lap 17, only to have Strunk wrestle it back away from him on lap 21. Billy Pauch Jr. all of a sudden appeared to take 3rd away from Rudolph on lap 24, but as quickly as he gained the spot, mechanical woes forced Pauch Jr. to retire from the event just one lap later. The remaining 16 laps saw Godown, Strunk, and Rudolph keep a stranglehold on the top three spots, while Keith Hoffman, Billy Pauch Sr., and Billy Decker had a great battle going for the next three positions. The last 5 laps saw Godown get into some lapped traffic, but he was not to be denied and drove home to the $7,500 first place payday. Strunk held on for 2nd, followed by Erick Rudolph, Keith Hoffman in the Steve Searock owned #26, and Billy Decker, in a great ride from his 16th starting spot. Sixth thru tenth were Billy Pauch Sr., Sammy Piazza, Pat Ward, Matt Sheppard in the Norm Hansell #357, and two time defending track champion Craig Von Dohren in the Eastern Rigging #11.

Sean Merkel was victorious in the 20 lap 358 Late Model feature, taking the lead from race long leader Andy Haus on lap #16 and leading the rest of the way for the $1,000 payday. Haus held on for the runner up position, followed by Billy Wampler, Scott Haus, Drew Weiser, Grant Adams, Steve Nederostek, Bryon Sipe, Jim O' Hara, and Jason Smith.

"Front Row" Joe Kavanaugh took the lead from his pole starting spot and led the first 6 laps of the Roadrunner feature until a caution waved for the #11J of Bill Wingle Jr., who shredded a tire in tire four. On the restart, Jim Kost powered into the lead in his potent #126 machine. Kost led until lap #12, when Tom Hablett, in his new #555 ride, drove by to claim the top spot. Hablett led the rest of the way, followed by Jeremy Becker, who made a late race charge from his 15th starting spot to claim runner up honors. Chris Holland also made a late race charge to take third, followed by "Buckshot" Glenn Rowan, and Joey Brennan. Sixth thru tenth were Kost, Tim Fitzpatrick Jr., Jason Brown, Kris Ney, and Shon Elk.

Racing returns to Big Diamond Speedway this coming Friday, April 11th with the program that was to originally scheduled on March 30th. The Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic 358 Modifieds will go 30 laps for $3,000 to win and $300 to take the green. Also on the card will be the U.S.S Achey Sportsman going 20 laps for $1,000 to win and the Savage 61 Roadrunners going 20 laps for $300 to win. The XCEL 600 Modified are also on the card this Friday as an added bonus. A great field of cars is expected for this event, with 2 time defending track champion Craig Von Dohren, Frank Cozze, Stewart Friesen, Duane Howard, Doug Manmiller, Kevin Albert Jr., Dale Hartz, and many more expected to be in attendance looking to take home the top prize. Grandstand admission for this event will be $20.00 for adults, $18.00 for seniors, active military, and students ages 13 to 17 (all with valid ID). Kids 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Pit participation fees are $30.00 for members and $40.00 for non-members. Remember, bring your wrist band from the last race of the 2013 season and receive $2.00 your grandstand admission. The same tire and racing fuel rules are in effect on this day as they were for Money in the Mountains. Mark it on your calendar now, you won't want to miss it.

STRUNK SCORES 4th CAREER WIN IN COAL CRACKER 72 RACE, HOLLAND WINS ROADRUNNERS

MINERSVILLE, PA - September 2nd, 2013

Complete elation.

Those are the two words best used to describe the mood of Jeff Strunk and the entire Salerno race team after scoring the victory in the 33rd running of the Jack Rich Memorial Coal Cracker 72 race. The win was worth $10,000 to Strunk and his team, capping off a perfect weekend after winning at Grandview Speedway the previous evening.

Doug Manmiller raced to the early lead in the event, followed closely by Kevin Albert Jr. The first 15 laps went clean and green, with the first caution coming out for a disabled Ricky Yetter in turn two as the leaders actually completed lap #16. During the caution flag, both Meme Desantis and Bobby Varin retired to the pits for the evening. One lap later the caution flag waved once again for a disabled Billy Pauch Sr. in turn three. On the restart, Kevin Albert Jr. raced in to the lead, only to have Manmiller return the favor a few laps later. Lap #23 saw a pile-up in turn four that eliminated point leader Craig Von Dohren along with invaders Richie Pratt Jr. and David Van Horn. Soon after the lap #24 restart, Jeff Strunk powered around the outside of Manmiller to take the lead he would never relinquish. One more caution flag on lap #28 for a stalled John Willman slowed the action before the lap #36 mandatory fuel stop. Once the race restarted, Strunk still held the lead, with Manmiller still lurking behind in second. Duane Howard had now moved into the third spot, with Ryan Godown, Ryan Watt, Rick Laubach, and Jimmy Horton putting on a spectacular battle for the 4th thru 7th positions. Only one caution flag slowed the event over the final 36 laps, that being for a spin by Nick Desantis on lap #57. Strunk continued to lead on the final restart, and managed to hold a several car length lead over the remainder of the event. When the checkered flag waved, it was Strunk, collecting his 4th career Coal Cracker win, but first since 1997. Manmiller held on for second, followed by Howard, Godown, and Watt. Sixth thru tenth were Laubach, Horton, Kevin Smith, Sammy Piazza, and Kevin Albert Jr.

Heat races for the 45 cars on hand were won by Howard, Yetter, Kyle Weiss, and Laubach. Consolation races were won by Bobby Varin and Frank Cozze.

Sixth place starting Chris Holland took the mid-race lead from early leader Shon Elk to win the 19 lap Coal Cracker race for Roadrunners. The race was originally scheduled for 25 laps but was shortened when the feature hit the 25 minute curfew. With the win, Holland joins his dad, Kevin Holland, as the only father/son combination to ever win the event. Kevin's victory came back in 2007 in his then potent car #66. Elk was able to hold on to the runner up spot, followed by Marc Berzowski, Jim Kost, and Jason Brown, making his first start of the season. Sixth thru tenth were Devin Trexler, Jared Seigfried, Tim Spesak, Terry Kramer Jr., and Kyle Killian.

Heat races were won by Brown and Berzowski.

Racing returns to Big Diamond Speedway this coming Sunday, September 8th, featuring the ZY Pyrotechnics Modifieds, USS Achey Sportsman, and Anthracite Coal Delivery Street Stocks. Also on the card will be a special Powder Puff race for the Modified and Sportsman divisions combined. The race will pay $50 to the winner courtesy of Kims Kreations. Racing continues each and every Sunday until the end of September.

BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY PRESENTS FANDEMONIUM THIS FRIDAY, JULY 12th.

MINERSVILLE, PA - JULY 10th, 2013

In just about 48 hours it will be time for one of the most unprecidented promotions in dirt track racing history; FANdemonium at Big Diamond Speedway. What is FANdemonium? FANdemonium is a promotion put together by track owners Jake and Jasmine Smulley where each and every fan that attends that evening will be admittted to the grandstand area free of charge. That's right - free! Everyone who attends FANdemonium will be admitted to the grandstands for free. There will be giveaways for the fans, autographs from the drivers, and much, much more. Grab your friends, family, neighbors, and anyone else you know and bring them to this unprecedented event. Gates open at 5:00 PM and first heat hits the track at 8:15 PM. On the card will be the ZY Pyrotechnics 358 Modifieds, USS Achey Sportsman, and Savage 61 Roadrunners.

A few items of note for FANdemonium. For this evening, and this evening only, no outside food will be allowed into the track. We would ask that if you get hungry during the course of the evening, you might try a hot dog, hamburger, pizza, steak sandwich, soft pretzel, or one of our many other yummy food items available for purchase. Drinks are allowed to be brought into the track, but we will be limiting coolers to a six pack cooler only. Anyone with a cooler larger than a six pack cooler will be asked to return it to their vehicle. We are exepcting a very large crowd for this event and do not want a potential fans seat taken up by a gigantic sized cooler. Also, we will be limiting each person to one six pack of beer to be carried into the track.

In conjunction with FANdemonium, July 12th will also be the Hillside SPCA Furry Friends Friday! They will have items for purchase and games to play. Two checkered flags, one autographed by all of the sprint drivers who participated in our speedweek show, the other signed by our regular Friday night racing warriors, will be raffled off. There will also be a helmet drive at intermission. Proceeds from all of these events will be for the SPCA.

The first 300 fans to stop by the Reading Eagle billboard and see Traci Arnold will receive a free racing poster emblazened with many of your favorite BDS drivers. The poster is compliments of Brad Arnold Racing and their sponsor Reading Eagle/WEEU.

Before the racing events begin, we will have cars on display for the fans to enjoy. A restored Paul Koch #39 quarter midget from 1970 and #1971 will be on hand, along with the Brad Arnold #27 Modified, #T102 Shawn Fitzpatrick Modified, #5 Ricky Yetter Modified, #17x Kevin Beach Sportsman, #91 Shawn Light Sportsman, #42D Mike Diehl/Chad Putalavage Sportsman, #8c Chris Holland Roadrunner, #102 TJ Fitzpatrick Roadrunner, #13 Jesse Krasnitsky Roadrunner and many more.

Make it a point to be there this Friday and attend this incredible event.

SAM HAFERTEPE JR. WINS ROUND #3 OF SPRINT SPEED WEEK AT BIG DIAMOND, BERZOWSKI WINS ROADRUNNERS

MINERSVILLE, PA - JUNE 30th, 2013

Sam Hafertepe Jr. scored his first ever PA Sprint Speed Week victory and first ever Big Diamond Speedway win in the 30 lap main event for the Sprinters during stop #3 of the PA Sprint Speedweek series.

Starting from the pole position, Hafertepe bolted into the lead at the drop of the green and immediately opened up a large lead over second place running Stevie Smith. The first 13 laps of the feature event went caution free before yellow had to be displayed for Jimmy Reppert, who came to a stop on the backstretch. The caution was out once again on lap #14 for a spinning Ryan Wilson. On the restart, Hafertepe again sprinted out to a large lead, with Smith still holding down second spot and Brent Marks in third. These three drivers remained in this order when the final caution flag of the event flew on lap #28 for Brain Montieth, who stopped on the front stretch with a right rear flat. Montieth refused the two lap courtesy extended to drivers with flat tires and retired for the evening. On the restart, Smith made a daring move into turn #2 to try and wrestle the lead from Hafertepe, but to no avail, and the Sunnyvale, TX driver was able to cruise to the $5,000 victory. Marc Bersowski picked up win #7 of the season in the 20 lap Savage 61 Roadrunner main event. Elk held on for his third second place in a row, followed by TJ Fitzpatrick, Chris Holland, And Tim Fitzpatrick Jr.

FANS AND DRIVERS ALIKE CAN BE WINNERS WITH BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY STICKER PROMOTION

MINERSVILLE, PA - JUNE 20th, 2013

Speedway owners and promoters Jake and Jasmine Smulley are pleased to announce the new Big Diamond Speedway sticker promotion to help put gas in the cars of their fans and money in the pockets of their drivers.

Beginning this Friday, June 21st, Big Diamond Speedway stickers will be for sale in the candy stand under the announcers tower at a cost of $5.00 per piece. Along with showing your support for Big Diamond Speedway, this will also be a way for fans and drivers to take home an added bonus from the track.

For fans, all you need to do is visibly disply the sticker on your vehicle. Each and every week our "privite eyes" will be scouring the parking lot for cars displaying a Big Diamond Speedway sticker. We will pick three cars each and every week from those displaying the sticker. We will announce details about your car and your license plate number. If that person is you, you will receive a $25.00 gas card to either Sheetz or Turkey Hill.

For drivers, if you purchase a sticker, mount it on the right or left side of your car on an outer body panel. If you win at another speedway no matter where, have the sticker on display, and thank Big Diamond Speedway for the sticker promotion in your victory lane interview, we will give you $100.00 cash money.

Just yet another way Big Diamond Speedway is trying to thank our drivers and fans for their continued support.
