GODOWN ROCKETS TO VICTORY LANE AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY’S ALL STAR CUP
New Egypt, NJ (October 21, 2018) – At New Egypt Speedway’s All Star Cup, Ryan Godown rocketed to victory lane in the Modified feature. The Hammer Sportsman main event was captured by Art Liedl. Johnny Bangs topped the field in the Crate Modified feature while Rich Mellor took top honors in the main event for the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars.
As the 60-lap Modified feature got underway, Jimmy Horton grabbed the lead with Cale Ross and Ryan Godown next in line. Following a caution on the first circuit, Godown zipped to the front of the pack on the restart with Horton dropping into second. Horton regained the top running spot on the third tour. After two additional appearances of the yellow flag, Horton was still in command on lap seven with Godown in his tracks. After a good multi-circuit duel, Godown returned to the front with nine revolutions completed. Horton, using the high side, recaptured the lead on lap ten. Horton and Godown continued to remain in close quarters over the next several tours with Ryan Krachun in third and Duane Howard in fourth. On lap fourteen, Godown slipped past Horton to take back first place. Godown was beginning to build a sizeable advantage when the caution lights illuminated on lap seventeen for a slowing Jack Swain. When action resumed, Godown maintained his edge with Horton, Krachun, Howard and David VanHorn completing the top five. By lap twenty with Godown beginning to pull away from his rivals, Horton was fending off Krachun’s advances for second place. On lap twenty-five, Krachun’s good run ended as he slowed on the track due to a mechanical issue. When green flag racing returned, Godown fended off Horton to maintain his lead with Howard in third, Mike Gular in fourth, and Billy Pauch Jr. in fifth. As Godown was stretching out his advantage, David VanHorn motored by Pauch Jr. to enter into the top five. On lap thirty-five, a flat tire on Chad Barney’s ride brought out the final yellow flag of the contest and the scheduled fuel stop took place as well. Following the short break in the action, the top three of Godown, Horton and Howard remained intact. Pauch Jr. broke back into the top five by motoring into fourth on lap thirty-seven with Gular shuffling back to fifth. During this good stretch of green flag racing, Godown was able to build a comfortable advantage. However with ten circuits to go and lap traffic looming ahead, Horton was cutting into Godown’s margin. On lap fifty-two, the top two were beginning to pass slower competitors with Howard and Pauch Jr. battling for third. With only five tours remaining, Godown’s advantage was still evaporating with Howard and Pauch Jr. running door-to-door. After clearing lap traffic on the final circuit, Godown crossed the finish line before his foes to take his first checkered flag of the season and his forty-sixth of his career. With Horton coming home in second, Howard completed the race in third. Fourth went to Pauch Jr. with Gular finishing in fifth. Duane Howard, Cale Ross and Mike Gular were victorious in the Modified heat races. The consolation contest was claimed by Mike Butler.
After taking the lead on the fifteenth circuit, Art Liedl paced the field for the remaining tours to grab his second victory of the season in the 25-lap Hammer Sportsman feature. JT Trstensky led the opening fourteen revolutions before the tenth place starting Liedl took control following a restart. Trstensky’s strong effort resulted in a second place finish. Jim Housworth was third. Will Dupree was fourth and Joseph Brown was fifth. The Hammer Sportsman heat races went to Art Liedl and Louden Reimert.
In the 25-lap feature for the Crate Modifieds, Johnny Bangs survived a restart with two tours remaining to claim his first career victory. As the contest began, Bob Lilick grabbed the top running spot. Jeremy Martino took over the lead on lap two. On the sixth circuit, the fourth place starting Bangs swept by Martino to take command of the race for the remaining distance. Martino finished in second with Eric Palmer coming home in third. Fourth went to John Aumick. Ryan Simmons came from his sixteenth starting spot to finish fifth. John Aumick and Jordon Cox won the Crate Modifieds qualifying races.
Polesitter Rich Mellor led from start to finish to capture the win in the 20-lap main event for the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars. The victory was the second of the year for Mellor. Heidi Hedin came home in second. Eighth place starting Brian Spencer earned third place. Joey Biasi and Jermain Godshall rounded out the top five. The heat races in the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars division were taken by Rich Mellor and Joey Biasi.

An All-Star Will Be Made In 6th Annual All Star Cup Shootout At New Egypt Speedway This Saturday October 20th
New Egypt, NJ – This Saturday’s 6th Annual All Star Cup Shootout at the New Egypt Speedway is shaping up to be one of its best yet.
It’ll be a barnburner for the Mighty Modifieds as the Small Block Modifieds take on the Big Block Modifieds once again in a 60-Lap shootout that pays $6,000 to win and $400 just to start the main event.
See New Egypt Speedway regulars such as 2018 Modified Track Champion David VanHorn, 2017 Track Champion Billy Pauch Jr., Multi-time 2018 winner Danny Bouc, Ryan Godown, Brandon Grosso, Ryan Krachun, Davey Sammons, Rich Rutski, Chad Barney and more as they take on invaders such as Jeff Strunk, 2015 All-Star Cup Shootout Winner Duane Howard, Two-Time New Egypt Speedway Track Champion Jimmy Horton, Wade Hendrickson, Mikey Butler, Johnny Guarino and a plethora of others this Saturday night!
The Hammer Sportsman, Crate Modifieds and Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars will round out Saturday night’s racing program that will be the last racing event of the 2018 season.
Pit Gates will open at 3PM on October 20th, Spectator Gates will open at 4PM with Hot Laps scheduled for 5PM and racing slated to begin at 6PM. Adult admission is $25, Seniors (65 & up) are $23, Teens (12-15) & Military w/ID are $15 while Kids 11 & Under are FREE! Pit admission will be $40.

RYAN WATT OVERCOMES A TRAFFIC JAM TO WIN THUNDER FIRST; WHITMOYER AND SMITH CLAIM SPORTSMAN AND SPRINT CAR WINS
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (October 13, 2018) – It was a chilling fall night of racing when Boyertown, PA’s Ryan Watt scored the victory in the twenty-first running of the Modified Traffic Jam, the season finale of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series events at Grandview Speedway Saturday night. Watt has been haunted from winning a Thunder show for years, so how appropriate that his first win came in the Halloween House of Thunder event. Craig Whitmoyer and Kyle Smith claimed victories in the Sportsman and MASS Sprint Car Series events, as part of the thrilling three-division show.
“I can’t believe we won, I’ve tried to win a Thunder on the Hill Race so many times -- I finished second at the August race, and I’m glad to get one of these Thunder wins finally," an ecstatic Watt said in victory lane while surrounded by family, friends and crew members. His first win earned him $5,000 in a very lucrative payoff that offered $1,000 to finish tenth and $500 just to start the feature event.
Forty-six modifieds attempted to qualify for the big event and it was Ryan Watt who rolled off second in the 24-car starting line-up, alongside 2018 Grandview Speedway Modified Champion, Mike Gular. Watt won the drag race down the front stretch taking the top spot despite strong attempts from Gular. Battling for the lead, the top two dueled side-by-side for the initial stage of the race, followed by Frank Cozze and Kenny Gilmore.
Meanwhile, Craig VonDohren charged forward from an eighth-place start into the fifth position on lap 4, leading a train that included Jared Umbenhauer and Doug Manmiller.
The lead pack closed in on lapped cars by the tenth circuit, and the aptly named ‘Traffic Jam’ bunched the field with multiple two and three-wide battles. Relief came after a close call for the leaders when two cars tangled directly in front of them.
“Lapped Cars made things tricky tonight,” Watt said in victory lane. “You never know which way anyone is going to go and when they are side-by-side, it gets tricky.”
Opting for the outside lane on the restart, Watt left the door open for Gular, who pulled alongside challenging for the top spot. Jared Umbenhauer charged into the third on the restart and swapped the second position with Gular just two laps later.
Ryan Watt pulled away in the later stages of the 40-lap event, weaving in and out of slow traffic and maintaining the top spot as laps clicked off.
It was all Watt as the checkered flag waved, Mike Gular finished in second – holding off a late race charge from Jared Umbenhauer, who settled for third. Craig VonDohren finished in fourth, and Doug Manmiller finished in the fifth position.
Craig Whitmoyer claimed the victory in the 25-lap Sportsman event – his 13th Grandview Speedway victory. Mike Lisowski started on the outside pole and led the early stages of the race– but Lisowski was forced pitside on lap 15 when officials discovered missing right front lugnuts on his No. 15 machine. Brad Grim inherited the lead on the restart and lost the lead to Whitmoyer after a three-car battle for the top spot that also included Kevin Hirthler. A lap 22 yellow slowed the field for the final time and Whitmoyer engaged in a three-car race to the finish with just three circuits remaining. Whitmoyer held on for the win with Grim and Hirthler settling for second and third, respectively. Dean Bachman finished in fourth, and Kyle Kania finished in the fifth position.
Kyle Smith of Great Barrington, Massachusetts picked up the victory in the 25-lap Mid-Atlantic Sprint Car Series event, holding off Jeff Geiges and a slew of late race caution flags. Geiges of Hamilton, NJ took the early lead and led the initial eleven circuits before a lap 11 yellow slowed the field. With a double-file restart, Geiges opted to restart on the top side opening the door for Smith, who powered down the front stretch overtaking the top spot. Geiges slid inside Smith but couldn’t stick the attempted slide job. Geiges would settle for second, Ryan Stillwaggon finished in third, Jon Haegele coming home in fourth and Tyler Reinhardt rounding out the top 5 finishers.
