STEWART FRIESEN WINS VP RACING FUELS BRUCE ROGERS MEMORIAL AT GRANDVIEW, KEVIN HIRTHLER TOPS THE SPORTSMAN FIELD
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. April 15, 2018 . . . Mother Nature finally cooperated with the racing community on Saturday night and produced beautiful weather and the 56th racing season at Grandview Speedway got underway in front of a very large turnout of fans. Close to 50 small and big block Modifieds lined the pits to participate in the events leading up to the first annual Bruce Rogers Memorial Money Maker 50-lap race sponsored by VP Racing Fuels. The race was run in honor of the late Bruce Rogers, who passed away last March. Bruce, along with his father Forrest, built the track close to 60 years ago.
Three laps shy of a victory in the prestigious memorial event, Stewart Friesen wrestled the lead away from Mike Gular as the front runners had to deal with lapped traffic. Friesen held on and went on to collect the $7,500 top prize money along with beautiful hardware signifying the victory. In 2014 Friesen, now a regular in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition, won the season opener along with the rich Freedom 76 Classic.
Kevin Hirthler, doing double duty in the Modified and Sportsman divisions, took the lead when leader Ryan Lilick dropped out of action and chalked up the victory in the 25-lap Sportsman feature.
Through a heads-up draw, Don Norris Jr., returning to action after a year hiatus, started on the pole in the 50-lap Memorial feature, but it was second-place starter Tim Buckwalter that took the early lead and Gular followed through for second.
Buckwalter and Gular were bumper to bumper for several laps while back further Norris Jr., Friesen and Jordan Henn diced for positions.
Gular dove underneath Buckwalter for the lead along the homestretch on the 12th lap and heading down the backstretch Buckwalter pulled into the infield out of contention.
With 15 laps in the books Gular, Norris Jr., Friesen, Craig Von Dohren and Matt Sheppard, the third, first, fourth, 12th and sixth-place starters continued to hold down one through five as they encountered slower moving traffic that were also racing for positions.
Kevin Hirthler, who had just broken into the top ten, spun in the fourth turn on the 22nd lap and went pit side. Gular held his line on the restart, but Friesen was right there leaving him no room to slip-up and Friesen knew Von Dohren was pressuring him too.
Sheppard’s solid fourth place run ended on the 24th lap with a right rear flat tire. After a pit stop he rejoined the pack, but was only able to get back to 11th until the end.
At the half-way marker Gular, Friesen and Von Dohren, who all ran the top lane; Watt and Frank Cozze completed the top five.
In the final stages of the event, lap cars hampered the front runners and Friesen had a full head of steam built up even though he abused his tires and was coming on strong as it appeared Gular was having problems getting through turns one and two.
On the 47th lap, three short of a victory for Gular, Friesen passed him. Gular didn’t surrender easily and tried to regain the top spot.
Friesen continued his pace and pulled into the winner’s circle for his third win at the oval followed by Gular, Von Dohren, Watt and Cozze. Rounding out the top ten were Duane Howard, Meme DeSantis, Rick Laubach, Billy Pauch Sr. and Mike Mahaney.
Heats were won by Jordan Henn, Brett Kressley, Sheppard and Von Dohren. Jared Umbenhauer and Laubach won the consolation events.
Jeff Strunk and Doug Manmiller, two of the top favorites, failed to qualify for the prestigious event.
Polesitter Ryan Lilick took the early lead after a complete restart in the Sportsman feature with Jesse Landis, Brad Grim and brothers Brian and Kevin Hirthler, both doing double duty in pursuit.
Grim led the sixth lap, but that was short-lived as Lilick was back in front the next time by.
Lilick’s misfortune when his car broke on the 11th lap was beneficial to K. Hirthler when he now inherited the lead.
Grim made several runs on K. Hirthler, but each one fell short as the lead remained the same while B. Hirthler, Dylan Swinehart and Jim Housworth were in the wings hoping for one of them to falter.
K. Hirthler never surrendered the lead and scored his first win in the division followed by Grim, B. Hirthler, Swinehart and Mark Kemmerer, Kevin’s teammate for the night. Housworth, Jack Butler, Mike Lisowski, Ryan Higgs and Kurt Beitler rounded out the top ten.
Lilick, Landis and B. Hirthler won the heats. The consi was won by Brad Arnold.
The official season of TP Trailers NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models and Sportsman will kick off on Saturday, April 21 all getting underway at 7:00 p.m. An added attraction will be the Blast from the Past Vintage Racers. Spectator gates will open at 5 p.m.

New Egypt, NJ – Points races begin this coming Saturday night April 14th when Oliver Comunications Group presents Opening Day at New Egypt Speedway.
The Modifieds will be the headline division with a 40-Lap double points affair paying $2,750 to win, also in action will be the Mid Atlantic 305 Sprint Car Series, Hammer Sportsman, Street Stocks, the debut of the 4-Cylinder’s and the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman.
Pit Gates will open at 3PM, Spectator Gates will open at 4PM with Hot-Laps being scheduled for 5PM and Racing beginning at 6PM. Admission to the grandstand is $22 for adults, $20 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for teens 12-15, $10 for military personal and their spouses with ID, and Kids 11 & Under are FREE. Pit admission is $30 with a New Egypt Speedway license and $40 with no license.
A free-to-the-public Open Practice will be held on Thursday night April 12th from 5-9PM with the Pit Gates opening at 3PM, any racecar that is New Jersey legal is welcome to take part in the practice session. Pit Admission will be $25.

GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY TRYING AGAIN WITH VP RACING FUELS BRUCE ROGERS MEMORIAL MONEY MAKER CLASSIC ON SATURDAY, APRIL 14
BECHTELSVILLE, PA April 9, 2018 . . . OK, let’s try this again. The VP Racing Fuels Bruce Rogers Memorial Money Maker Classic at Grandview Speedway is set for Saturday, April 14th at 7pm after being weathered out last Saturday.
With $7,500 posted for the winner and $1,000 guaranteed just for making the starting field for the 50-lapper that has Small Block Modifieds going up against the Big Block Modifieds the race has attracted a huge amount of interest. This is especially true with the race being run to honor Bruce Rogers, one of the most respected race promoters in the business. He passed away in March, 2017.
The doubleheader show is expected to attract quite a few outsiders (racers who are not regulars at Grandview) to take part with the popular Sportsman stock cars making up the second part of the event. The Sportsman will be racing for $750 to win and $125 guaranteed for making the feature starting field.
With names like Craig VonDohren, Duane Howard, Jeff Strunk, Ryan Watt and so many others expected to battle for the lucrative victory, the opportunity to take home the Memorial trophy, is expected to be one to be remembered.
A full series of qualifying events will lead up to the feature races in both divisions.
American Racing Tires has posted $1,000 which will go to four drivers that are not fortunate enough to make the Rogers Memorial. The names of all non-qualifiers will be in a drawing with four lucky drivers getting $250 each.
New at Grandview this season will be a Stoudt Auto Sales of Reading, PA pace truck and it will be leading the field for the start of each feature event.
Adult admission for the season opener is $28 while youngsters 6 through 11 pay just $5. And kids under 6 are admitted FREE. Pit passes are priced at $35 and there is no license required. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m.
Those wishing to register for the Rogers Memorial, there is no license required and no entry fee, can do so at www.grandviewspeedway.com/bruce-rogers-memorial/. A drivers meeting will take place at 5 pm with all cars signed in by 5 pm. The drawing for qualifying heat starting positions takes place at 5:30 pm. And hot laps for the racers start at 6 pm.
The NASCAR sanctioned season of racing will now get the green flag on Saturday, April 21st with a tripleheader show featuring the T.P.Trailers 358 Modifieds, Late Models and Sportsman plus Blast from the Past Vintage racers with racing starting at 7 p.m.
The first Outlaw Enduro/Blast from the Past Vintage doubleheader will take place on Sunday, April 15th with a 1 p.m. start.
When the racing ends each night fans are invited to head back to the pit area to see the race cars up close, take pictures and collect autographs.
Grandview Speedway is known for their excellent well-stocked concession areas and there is a great novelty stand that offers souvenirs, t-shirts, hats and more along with copies of the latest edition of the track magazine, The Inside Groove.

More Wet Weather Forces Postponement of New Egypt Speedway Opening Weekend
New Egypt, NJ – New Egypt Speedway has been forced to postpone its opening weekend scheduled for Friday and Saturday April 6th and 7th due to the facility grounds still being wet from the winter.
“It’s the same scenario as last weekend, we need three our four dry days in a row to get it where we can work on the race track so that it is safe for our competitors. We don’t want to see anyone tear anything up this early in the season”, said New Egypt Speedways Joey Liquori. “So far the forecast looks good for next week so we will try it again.”
The free-to-the-public Open Practice session has been rescheduled for Thursday night April 12th. Pit gates will open at 3PM for inspection and practice will run from 5-9PM. Any racecar that is New Jersey legal is welcome to take part in the practice session. Pit Admission will be $25.

WATT IS FIRST REPEAT WINNER IN 60 OVER SPECIAL AS BRIDGEPORT OPENS 2018 SEASON
In spite of Mother Nature’s unrelenting grip on winter weather, the Bridgeport Speedway welcomed a host of dedicated racing fans and officially opened their 2018 season with the 60 Over Special – Doug Hoffman Memorial Event on Saturday. The start of the season was greatly anticipated by both fans and competitors alike as they lined up to gain entrance to the grandstands and pit area for this event.
More than forty Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds, 29 Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman and 16 Pennco Tech Outlaw Stocks, filed into the pit area for the first day of racing.
The fans were not disappointed as the race teams rose to the occasion to deliver a great day of racing. Ryan Watt became the first driver to repeat in the 60 Over Special – having won the 2014 event and now adding the win in the new season. Adam McAuliffe traveled some five hours from his home in upstate New York to capture the victory in the first 602 Crate Sportsman feature in his first ever Bridgeport appearance. Rich Stinson Jr. took his father’s Outlaw Stock to Victory Lane to open the new season.
The opening day event was also the first hand in the 811 Dig Safely 2018 Poker Series. Aces were earned by the three race winners – Watt, McAuliffe and Stinson – as the 2018 competition gets underway. Drivers finishing second through thirteenth will receive cards of a King through a deuce, respective of their finishing positions of second through thirteenth.
The top twelve qualifiers in the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds participated in a revenge draw to determine the line-up for the forty-four lap 60 Over Special. Ricky DiEva drew the outside pole and gave that position to Bridgeport regular, Tommy Beamer who promptly outgunned Mike Gular at the wave of the green flag to lead the twenty-six car field at the start. Beamer led the way with Gular, Anthony Perrego, Craig VonDohren and Jim Britt in tow.
Making his way through the field from his eighth place start was Watt who had made his way to fourth by the second lap. Perrego fell to Watt’s challenge a lap later as Gular was next on Watt’s radar.
Beamer had the Thornton Gulf No. 31 well out in front when the first caution waved on lap seven as Roger Manning limped to the pits with a left rear flag. Watt raced by Gular on the restart and then, using the outside, Watt raced by Beamer to take the lead on lap eight.
Watt pulled away from the field while Beamer continued his hold on to the runner-up spot through a lap sixteen restart. 2017 60 Over winner, Stewart Friesen was on the move from his eleventh place start as he raced into fourth and began to pressure Perrego for third. First Perrego and then Friesen completed the pass by Beamer to take over second and third. Watt led Perrego, Friesen, Beamer and Bachetti through half way. By lap twenty-seven, Watt was making his way through lapped traffic.
With less than fifteen laps remaining, Ryan Godown broke into the top five after racing his way from twelfth. With Watt well out in front, Friesen continued to pressure Perrego while Godown chased Beamer for position. Friesen won the position in the closing laps while Godown was able to best Beamer for fourth.
Watt led the way to the checkered flag followed by Friesen, Perrego, Godown and Beamer. Bachetti, Duane Howard, Jim Britt, Jeff Strunk and Craig VonDohren rounded out the top ten at the finish.
Invader, Adam McAuliffe led the field of Stewart Stainless 602 Crate Sportsman to the start but it was third place starter, Jeremy Harrington who raced into the lead on the first lap. A lap six caution was a game changer for the race as Harrington headed to the pits for a tire change. Harrington's misfortune moved second place competitor, Dave Schilling into the lead but Schilling never had the chance to lead a lap as he, too, headed to the pits with a tire issue. McAuliffe became the new leader. McAuliffe led the way to the checkered flag with a hard charging Eric Kormann closing the gap in the final laps to finish second. Chris Jenkins finished third with Frank Dorry and Scott Kohler rounding out the top five.
Rich Stinson, Jr. took the field of Pennco Tech Outlaw Stocks to the green flag, leading every lap until 2017 Outlaw Stock Champion, Tom Wills, Jr. completed the pass for the lead on lap ten. Two laps later, Wills, Jr. slowed with a right front flat, putting Stinson back out in front. Stinson raced to the win over Spider Ensinger. Mike Creamer recovered from a first lap spin to finish third over Lee Allen with Wills, Jr. racing back for a top five finish
Big Block Modified heat winners Duane Howard, Ricky DiEva, Ryan Godown and Mike Mahaney each received $50 courtesy of Mike Dise and the Mini Shed. Stewart Friesen received a $200 bonus as the race's Hard Charger from Precision Hydraulics & Oil.
Competitors will have the opportunity to practice on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8 th mile track as well as the Spirit Auto Center quarter mile on Saturday, April 7th. Racing action returns to the 5/8 mile track on Sunday, April 15th for the 2018 season opener for the United Racing Club Sprint Car season opener in addition to the Big Block Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman and Rookies.
