Matt Sheppard Continues Hot Streak With Second Straight Bob St. Amand Memorial Win at Merrittville
Earns Fourth Consecutive Series Win
MERRITTVILLE, ON, CAN - August 9, 2017 - Matt Sheppard drove past Gary Lindberg in the outside lane following a lap 81 restart to take the lead on lap 85 and then paced the final 16 laps to win his second straight Bob St. Amand Memorial 100 at Merrittville Speedway on Wednesday night.
The victory was also his fourth straight with the Super DIRTcar Series and second in as many nights after he also won Tuesday at Ransomville Speedway. Lindberg, a Merrittville weekly 358 (Small Block) Modified regular, gave everything he had to keep pace with Sheppard, but came up 1.203 seconds short of his first career Series victory.
"We have had some really good racecars and some really good luck. That's what it takes," Sheppard said of his four-race win streak. "Going back five races to Sharon, I thought we had a shot at winning that and got a flat tire late in the race. We were pretty good up in Quebec, good again last night and tonight I didn't think we were nearly as good, but we had a little bit of luck."
Sheppard's good luck was at the expense of Erick Rudolph's misfortune during the most dramatic point of the race. Lindberg and Rudolph had broken away from the rest of the pack in the top two spots. As the race reached its final quarter, Rudolph zeroed in on Lindberg amongst the lapped traffic and pulled to his back bumper after erasing a two-second deficit.
However, Rudolph's bid for the lead ended with 81 laps completed when he tried to race under Lindberg, who was running a half groove off the bottom of the track, in turn three. The two drivers made contact in the middle of the corner and the result Rudolph facing the wrong way in front of the field.
The ensuing restart moved Sheppard from third to the outside of the front row beside Lindberg. The Waterloo, NY native made the most of the outside groove and took the lead from Lindberg on lap 85 after a four-lap side-by-side battle on the icy slick track.
"The turning point of that race was when Rudolph tangled and spun around there," Sheppard said of the incident that halted a 51-lap green-flag run. "That kind of reset the field and gave me a little bit of open racetrack. That's kind of what we needed with the Big Block. We needed to keep our momentum up. I got up top and was able to get it rolling and just got it rolling well enough to get around Gary."
While Sheppard held the point, Lindberg kept within striking distance over the next 10 laps until the final caution flag of the race waved with five laps remaining when Fred Carleton rode the outside retaining wall to a stop on the frontstretch. Contrary to most situations, Sheppard was actually happy to see the yellow flag.
"That string of cautions really helped out," Sheppard said. "I would have never got around Gary without the yellow and then I didn't mind seeing that yellow with five to go. It gave me a little bit of open racetrack because I had to use every bit of it and even some more on the front stretch."
Sheppard and many of the drivers resorted to dipping the right-side wheels into the moat on the frontstretch to find grip for the straightaway which was devoid of moisture elsewhere. That same slick track played to the benefit of Lindberg and the other Merrittville Small Block regulars.
"The track conditions helped and so did starting up front," Lindberg said. "I thought I was a sitting duck up there and luckily we held on as long as we did. The guys put a good car under me this week."
Billy Decker completed the podium with a third-place finish. Decker's second top-three result in as many nights extended his point lead over Larry Wight, who finished ninth.
"We're not worried about everybody else," Decker quipped in Victory Lane. "We're just trying to take care of our own program. The Page Trucking car was pretty dogone good tonight. It was tough sledding. The boys at Mike Payne Racing work really hard and Textron's on board. We're having a pretty good year. We had a good run and had a lot of fun."
Prior to the lap 81 caution, the race had run under green conditions since a lap 30 restart. Before the extended run, the race experienced a slower pace than in the second half of the race. The initial start was slowed when Tommy Flannigan and Rich Scagliotta tangled together in turn four before the first lap was completed.
When the race got up to speed, polesitter Max McLaughlin took the lead with Lindberg quickly in tow. As the track slicked off, Lindberg was able to gain more on McLaughlin and was able to take the lead in turn two off a lap 13 restart.
The third caution of the race came on lap 22 when Brett Hearn, Pat Ward and Mark D'Ilario made contact and were collected against the inside wall in turn four. The lap 30 restart allowed Lindberg to build his lead to over three seconds ahead of McLaughlin at the halfway mark.
Rudolph, who ran inside the top-five most of the first half, entered a three-car battle for second with McLaughlin and Sanborn, NY driver Chad Brachmann. Brachmann took second initially on lap 53 before Rudolph took the spot on lap 63.
Rudolph hit his stride at that point and began to reel in Lindberg, who was working flawlessly through heavy lapped traffic. In less than 10 laps, Rudolph erased a two-second Lindberg advantage. Rudolph tried the inside lane in turn two on lap 76 and the two drivers made sight contact on the backstretch. Then, on lap 81, Rudolph's hope for the victory ended with his spin in turn three, but earned him the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck award. He raced back to a 10th-place finish.
McLaughlin was the night's Fast Qualifier with a lap of 16.692 seconds and the winner of heat two. Matt Sheppard, Ryan Susice and Billy Decker also picked up heat race winners. Mark D'Ilario from nearby Vineland, Ont. won the Last Chance Qualifier. Despite his troubles throughout the night, Larry Wight earned the KSE Hard Charger award, racing from 24th to 9th in the main event, an improvement of 15 spots.
For Sheppard, the win was another step in the right direction towards climbing up the points ladder. Entering Wednesday's event, he was 115 points back of Decker.
"All we can do is keep trying to win these races and let the rest take care of itself," Sheppard said in Victory Lane.
Sheppard will get the chance to try for his fifth straight win when the Super DIRTcar Series returns to action on Thursday, August 24 at Ohsweken Speedway for the Triple Crown Showdown.
The event also features 360 Sprint Cars and Crate Late Models with a $25,000 bonus to a driver who can win all three features or a $5,000 bonus if a driver can win the Feature in two divisions. Super DIRTcar Series driver Stewart Friesen will be one driver contending for all three victories. For additional event information, visit www.ohswekenspeedway.com.

VONDOHREN WINS PIONEER FORREST ROGERS MEMORIAL FOR THIRD YEAR IN A ROW AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY; CHUCK SCHUTZ AND JOHN MCGOVERN ARE ALSO WINNERS
FREEDOM 76 WILL BE RUN IN MEMORY OF THE LATE BRUCE ROGERS AND PAY $30,000 TO WIN
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. AUGUST 6, 2017 – NASCAR 358 Modified point leader and defending champion Craig VonDohren scored a three-peat and became the only eight-time winner when he won the Forrest Rogers Memorial/Pioneer Pole Buildings 50-lap TP Trailers 358 NASCAR Modified feature for a $10,000 payday on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway in the races broadcast by RCN-TV, Allentown. The race is run in memory of the founder of the speedway.
During the course of the evening it was announced that the September 16th Freedom 76 Modified Classic, the biggest event of the season, would be run in memory of the late track promoter Bruce Rogers, who passed away in April, and will pay $30,000 to win. More details on this very special event will be released shortly.
VonDohren now joins Fred Rahmer, the ’82, ’83 and ’84 winner as the only driver at the 1/3-mile Berks Co. clay oval to win the prestigious event three straight times.
The defending and current point leader, who broke into the winner’s circle last week, didn’t have an easy time since he first had to battle side-by-side with Colt Harris several laps before he moved into first on the 31st lap and the he outran runner-up Mike Gular, who gave it his all several times, finishing second by a narrow 1.696 margin.
In victory lane VonDohren commented, “it was hard, flat-out racing and his crew worked diligently to repair the car after it got tore up in the heat race. The top was the place to be even though it was good on the bottom and I had to mix it up and run the middle while battling with Gular.”
The BRC NASCAR 20-lap Late Model feature was basically all current point leader Chuck Schutz as he ran away and hid since he led from the drop of the green until the wave of the checkered to win his fourth feature in the series.
John McGovern finally had a productive night in NASCAR Sportsman action as everything went in his favor. First he won his qualifying heat and then he held off the continuous challenges of runner-up Dylan Swinehart and third-place finisher Mike Lisowski once they caught him to win his first career ever 25-lap NASCAR Sportsman feature.
All feature winners received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and also product certificates from VP Racing Fuels providing they met the necessary requirements. For finishing second in the Forrest Rogers Memorial race, Gular received a drum of VP fuel for finishing second.
Modified action saw Bobby Gunther-Walsh lead for two laps before the yellow came out when Addison Meitzler lost a tire and stopped in the fourth turn. Harris powered the Pony Express No. C7 into first on the restart trailed by Brett Kressley, Gunther-Walsh, Steve Swinehart and John Willman.
Coming through the pack from his 16th starting berth was VonDohren behind the wheel of his own Pioneer Pole Buildings/V&M Towing No. 1C picking the competition off one-one-one and at the conclusion of 13 laps he was third.
Brett Gilmore stopped in the bottom of the fourth turn with a flat tire bringing out the caution with 14 laps complete. Harris maintained his position when racing resumed, but there were some tense moments when Brett Gilmore ran the red pit light and came charging out in front of the pack and was racing with them.
Another hairy moment occurred for Harris was when Dan Waisempacher slowed in the fourth turn directly in front of Harris, who did make contact since he had nowhere to go for the 21st lap caution. The incident didn’t deter Harris and he was still first on the restart, but now VonDohren was second putting his bids in for another win.
The red had to be thrown after Ryan Grim, debuting a brand new car, barrel-rolled three times after getting into the third turn infield tire while battling for positions. He was towed back to the pits and after a quick pit stop returned only to go back to the pits. Harris was determined to stay in front, but by this time VonDohren and Gular were second and third making it a three-way battle for first with Kressley and Kevin Hirthler in pursuit.
After Harris and Von Dohren ran door to door for several laps swapping paint on occasion, VonDohren emerged as the new leader on the 31st lap.
The final yellow was on the 37th lap for Kressley sitting in the infield. Earlier he slid into the homestretch infield on the 33rd lap and what many assumed was a mechanical issue. Later it was realized he needed medical attention because the driveshaft broke and hit him in the leg. He limped back to the pits without help trying to walk it off.
The leader continued to be VonDohren with Gular sticking right with him making several bids to overtake him, but to no avail, but Gular still showed determination.
VonDohren shuffled it up a bit deciding which line to run to deter Gular and it must have worked because at the conclusion he was in victory lane followed by Gular, Frank Cozze, Jared Umbenhauer and Duane Howard, who started 14th, 11th, 18th and 20th respectively.
Heats were won by Steve Swinehart, Kyle Weiss, Joe Fanelli and John Willman. Mike Mahaney and Chris Esposito won the consolation races.
The Late Model feature basically had Schutz steal the show as even though there were numerous cautions giving everyone ample opportunity to pass him they couldn’t get the job done and he went on to chalk up his 48th career win chased across the line by Wayne Pfeil, Bryon Sipe, last week’s feature winner; Lou Egrie Sr., returning after missing from action with motor issues and Steve Todorow.
The onset of the Sportsman feature saw McGovern take the early lead with pressure from Steve Young, Derrick Smith, Dean Bachman and Kenny Bock.
On the seventh lap Dylan Swinehart, already a two-time feature winner this year and running fourth, went three-wide on the outside – made the move stick and was now second and took chase after McGovern.
It didn’t take long for Swinehart and Mike Lisowski, mow second and third, to reel McGovern in and make it a three-way battle for first.
Swinehart made several attempts to pass McGovern, but at the same time he had to be concerned that Lisowski wouldn’t get by the two of them.
McGovern kept the fierce competition behind him and went on to capture a well-deserved first win followed closely by Swinehart, Lisowski, Mark McGovern and Jordan Henn, the defending point champion who had a fine run in his second outing after returning from the homestretch accident earlier in the season.
Bock, McGovern and Young won the heats. The consi went to Brad Arnold.
Coming up on August 12th is WNPV Radio Night featuring NASCAR TP Trailers 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models and Sportsman stock cars with racing starting at 7:30 p.m. Adult admission is just $15 while youngsters 11 and under are admitted free.
WNPV will be giving away three pairs of tickets (value of $94) to Knoebel’s Amusement Park which will include Good for One All Day Handstamp with Wooden Coasters.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Posted by: | CommentsAccord, NY- A One Night Flight Finds Andy Bachetti Sizzling Hot In Convincing Win In Exciting Accord Speedway Modified Action
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
On a hazy but warm summer day in the Catskill Mountains of New York State that threatened to rain but didn't, the Accord Speedway swung back into race mode on Friday evening. With temperatures in the low 80's and a warm gentle breeze blowing across the speedway grounds, Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer reeled off an outstanding racing card for the large crowd on hand that witnessed the excellent racing action. The superb evening of speed was sponsored by the good folks at Emmanuel's Marketplace (www.emmanuelsmarketplace.com) and was highlighted by the running of the Ernie Beesmer Memorial event for the Modified division. Even though the racing was held up and began later due to a faulty ambulance, all of the events were completed by 11PM.
The final outcome of the great evening of racing action found "The Wild Child" Andy Bachetti returning to the Accord Speedway in a one night flight from his regular track to steer his Garrity Asphalt Reclaiming sponsored hot rod to his first Accord Speedway win in quite some time. He chose the right time to return as he garnered in a whopping $2,888.00 for his win in the Ernie Beesmer Memorial in the United Pump & Tank Modified headliner. Brandon "Juan Pablo" McGill nailed down his second win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman finale. "The Highside Hustler" Eric Jennings was spot on as he recorded his fifth win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature event. Veteran campaigner Emerson Cargain Jr added his second win of the season as he raced to victory in the hotly contested Upstate Auto Pure Stock ranks. Ryan McCartney captured his second win of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman main event as he dominated the action in a wire to wire run. "The old Spring Kid" Jake Mason continues to excel at Accord as he wired the field for his seventh win at the speedway in the Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshot finale.
"The Concrete Kid" Kyle VanDuser used a front row start to kick off the United Pump and Tank Modified event and VanDuser would lead first nine laps of the 30-lap main event. "Primetime" Scott Ferrier stayed close as he quickly drove into the runner-up slot from his seventh starting position to tail VanDuser. Ferrier drove by VanDuser on lap ten and brought with him a high flying Anthony Perrego. Perrego challenged Ferrier but coming into the fight would be Andy Bachetti as he moved into third from his twelfth starting position. Bachetti was on a mission and could place his car in any channel of the speedway and be fast. He moved to the topside of the speedway on lap fourteen and passed both VanDuser and Perrego to assume command of the lead.
A restart closed the field on lap-19 but on the restart Bachetti opened up a huge lead on the field. As Bachetti got into slower traffic, Perrego was able to close the gap and make it close but Bachetti flashed under the checkered flag at the end of the thirty lap event a much richer man. Perrego was the runner-up in a solid drive from 11th starting place, Jerry Higbie came on strong at the end to finish third with Scott Ferrier and Danny Creeden completing the top five. The second five in order were Rich Ricci Jr, current point leader Danny Tyler, Mike Ricci, Richard Smith and Kyle VanDuser.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman event proved to be a great race as Chris VanDuser found the fast line at the top of the raceway and powered into the lead. Rich Ricci III followed VanDuser and the two broke away from the field early on. Some skirmishes would slow the action down on a few occasions but Brandon McGill on each restart would begin to make subtle moves on the leaders. McGill went to work on Ricci and slipped past him and then went to work on VanDuser. McGill took over the lead on lap-13 and while leading had to fight off the advances of Ricci and Kyle Rohner. The three way battle was exciting down to the last turn but McGill would not be denied on this night as he nabbed his second win of the season at Accord Speedway. Ricci III was second with a great performance while Rohner settled for third. Tony Kowlachuk and Tyler Johnston completed the top five. third. Following the top five were Corey Cormier, Dana Carey, Chris VanDuser, Shane Henion and Matt Shultz.
The WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature attraction found Ryan McCartney with the hot hand as he powered into the lead at the drop of the green flag and he would open up some distance on the field with Michael Corbin in pursuit. Hunter Lapp would find his way to the front and moved past Corbin into second. McCartney would prove to be fast as he drove away from the field to secure his second win of the season. Lapp enjoyed a great run for second with Corbin third, Vinny Visconti fourth and Alex VanPelt fifth. The entire top five came through the ranks of Slingshot racing lending credence to the importance of starting out the drivers in a class where they can learn the ins and outs of racing and then be able to make a successful transition to the full-size cars. Kevin Stevens, Jeff Higham, John Miller, John Brown, John DeWitt and Keith Johannessen would complete the rest of the field.
Austin Smith grabbed the early lead in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock main event and would lead through the first three laps. Emerson Cargain Jr found the open channels of the speedway down low and powered into the lead. It proved to be the winning pass but behind Cargain four additional drivers were driving hard to find the winning move of their own. Travis Brockner pulled out all of the stops and pulled even on occasion but could not muster up a few more horsepower to unseat Cargain from the lead and he settled for second. Steve Williams was third with John Hechinger continuing to do great work with a fourth place finish while Chris Kanuk finished fifth. Austin Smith, Harry Bachman, Craig Cuneo and Ray Tarantino completed the field.
Bobby Tersillo grabbed the lead at the start of the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature event. Tersillo was enjoying his best run of the season but jumped the cushion allowing Eric Jennings to make the winning move under him to take command of the lead. The move made the rest of the event purely academic as Jennings raced away from the field to gather in his fifth win of the season. Larry Ricci was a strong runner-up with Tersillo third, Larry McVay fourth, Andrew Davis Corey Wood, And newcomer Duane Nixon completing the field.
Jake Mason started from the inside pole position and quickly raced in to the lead at the start of the event. Mason opened up a big lead in the race and coasted to his seventh Accord Speedway win. Jaden Sleight was second with Ashton DeWitt third, Brock Pinkerous fourth and newcomer Kao DeWitt fifth.
GEMSTONES:
The good friends from Emmanuel's Marketplace were the headline sponsor for the evening.
Heat races were run off quickly and Sportsman heat wins went to Brandon McGill and Tyler Johnston. Ryan McCartney and John Miller captured the Rookie Sportsman heat events. Modified heats were claimed by Andy Bachetti, Ken Ferrier and Brian Malcolm while the B-Main for the Modifieds was claimed by Jimmy Wells. Bobby Tersillo won the Sprint heat. Steve Williams was victorious in the Pure Stock heat. Jake Mason captured the Junior Slingshot heat. .
New entries were arrived at the speedway as Tom Vasta and Anthony Recchio returned to action but both drivers stepping up to the Sportsman ranks. Duane Nixon was on hand with his Northeast Wingless Sprint Car in his debut and ran strong in his first Accord start. Kai DeWitt made his initial start in the Junior Slingshots with a K number reminiscent of a Karl Pittenger Modified.
Promoter Gary Palmer had the speedway in great racing form as the speedway again offered up to four and sometimes five distinct racing channels to the drivers to create some excellent side by side battles throughout the evening and for the most part all divisions produced some excellent racing for the fans.
A nice group of friends of Ernie Beesmer were on hand talking about Ernie and his exploits on the raceway. The photographs and trophies take one back to a more carefree time in life when things just seemed to go a lot easier than they do nowadays. Thank you to all of Ernie Beesmer's friends for a great evening at Accord.
The Gary Phillips Crew drove up from New Jersey to cheer for Kyle Rohner. Rohner steered the Phillips 600 Sprint at Hamlin a couple of seasons ago and Rohner has a lock on the one lap track record at Hamlin for the division. The car was sold by Phillips to graphic design man Adam Huff who now has placed Billy Pauch Jr in the machine at Kutztown
Best wishes go out to all of the Accord Speedway Junior Slingshot and All Star Slingshot drivers who will be taking part in the Slingshot Speedweeks racing at the various speedways on the tour schedule. VONDOHREN, SIPE AND BRAD GRIM WIN NASCAR FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW SATURDAY
PIONEER FORREST ROGERS MEMORIAL OFFERS $10,000 TO WIN AUGUST 5
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. July 29, 2017 – Craig VonDohren, the nine-time and defending Grandview Speedway Modified point champion, hadn’t been to victory lane at the 1/3-mile banked clay oval since August 20, 2016. Saturday night, VonDohren, who regained the point lead by 14 points over 10 time champion Jeff Strunk, passed Kenny Gilmore on the 13th lap restart of the TP Trailers 358 NASCAR Modified 30-lap feature and went on to park his self-owned, Keith Harring/V&M Towing sponsored No. 1C mount in the winner’s circle for his first triumph of the year and also became the 11th different winner.
Two weeks ago in the BRC NASCAR 20-lap Late Model feature Bryon Sipe was one lap shy of capturing his first win of the year. This time the Shoemakersville speedster made a bold move to pass leader Brian Shuey in lap traffic on the 14th lap and didn’t make any driver errors to score his season first win since May 28, 2016 to become the sixth different winner.
Brad Grim claimed his first career victory in the 25-lap NASCAR Sportsman feature on July 8, 2017 and two races later he put the Mike Stringer Collision No. 23 in victory lane for a second time.
All feature winners received monetary awards from TP Trailers and also product certificates from VP Racing Fuels providing they met the necessary requirements.
Joe “Geezer” Fanelli set the pace of the Modified feature for seven laps before Kenny Gilmore, who recently became the new driver of the Dennis Bailey-owned No. 81 replacing John Willman, took over the top spot.
While Gilmore showed the way the battle behind him for the remaining positions was hot and heavy between Fanelli, Von Dohren, Duane Howard and Frank Cozze.
VonDohren, who started 12th and Cozze, eighth-place starter, advanced to second and third respectively on lap ten to pressure Gilmore.
A three-car, fourth turn tangle brought out the yellow on the 12th lap. It didn’t take Von Dohren long on the restart to shoot to the outside and overtake Gilmore for first.
Gilmore hung right there with Von Dohren for several laps trying to recapture the lead, but soon Von Dohren pulled away from his fellow competitors.
No more restarts were needed once Von Dohren gained control to allow anyone the chance to overtake him and when the checkered unfurled it was his 101st Saturday night career win. Finishing second was Gilmore trailed by Cozze, Howard and Tim Buckwalter, who posted his best finish of the year since returning a few weeks ago.
Heats were won by Colt Harris, Addison Meitzler and Fanelli. Kevin Hirthler won the consi.
Before any laps could be completed in the Late Model feature something broke on the front end of Kyle Merkel’s car causing him to spin coming off turn two and out of competition. Once green flag action resumed Shuey was the early pacesetter with Sipe, Steve Todorow, Danny Snyder and Wayne Pfeil in pursuit.
Sipe, Todorow and Snyder had their own battle for second which allowed Shuey some breathing room.
Lapped traffic enabled the cars behind Shuey to close in on him and attempt to take the lead away.
On the 14th lap with a lapped car, Shuey and Sipe three-wide, Sipe shot past both of them and into the lead.
Sipe was determined not to make any mistakes and keep everyone behind him. He did just that and captured his second career win followed by Shuey, Snyder, Todorow and Chuck Schutz.
In the Sportsman feature polesitter Steve Young set the pace for two laps before Louden Reimert and Craig Whitmoyer tangled on the backstretch for the yellow. Whitmoyer could continue, but Reimert had to be towed back to the pits. On the restart Young, Derrick Smith and Joe Funk III went three-wide and Funk III emerged as the new leader.
Jim Housworth and Grim diced four the runner-up position several laps before Grim overtook him on the seventh lap to take chase after Funk III.
Andy Clemmer brought out the final yellow on the 13th lap when he slowed his pace with a flat tire in the fourth turn. When action resumed Grim took over first with Mark Kemmerer, Funk III, Housworth and Brian Hirthler, the current point leader, battling for the remaining positions.
Grim kept everyone behind him and continued until he became the eighth different winner trailed by Kemmerer, for his best finish, Funk III, Housworth and Whitmoyer, who was on the move after the early lap incident.
The heats were won by Kenny Bock, Mike Lisowski and Young while Caleb Ross won the consi.
Defending Sportsman point champion Jordan Henn, who was injured in the horrendous homestretch crash on April 29, was back in competition and garnered a seventh place finish.
Next Saturday Grandview presents one of its most prestigious events, the annual Pioneer Pole Buildings Forrest Rogers Memorial. This will be a 50-lapper for the TP Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds paying at least $10,000 to the winner. Also included in the night of excitement will be the BRC Late Models and Sportsman. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m. Adult admission is $25 while youngsters 6 through 11 pay just $5. Children under 6 are admitted free.
The Low Down and Dirty Meet & Greet will feature Pioneer sponsored racers Craig VonDohren, Chuck Schutz, Kevin Hirthler and Brian Hirthler. It takes place at 5 p.m. Rain date for the Forrest Rogers Memorial is August 12th.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Posted by: | CommentsDanny Creeden Goes Topside To Capture Second Win In Exciting Accord Speedway Modified Headliner
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
Accord, NY- On a hot, muggy summer evening with quick storms hitting areas south of the track, the Accord Speedway somehow remained unscathed and reeled off an outstanding racing card for another solid crowd on hand that witnessed the excellent six division racing card. The loyal Accord racing fans were offered the opportunity to go trackside and meet and greet with the talented driving roster of the speedway on camera and autograph night presented by United Pump and Tank located in Wallkill, New York.(www.unitedpumpandtank.com). Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer had the speedway grounds in its usual pristine condition and the outstanding track work prep of Gary Palmer presented the drivers with another fabulous, tacky and very racy track surface that had the drivers in all divisions talking about it all night long through the interview sessions. A & M Hardware presented the Checkered Flag Bonus. Even with the 45 minute delay for the Camera and Autograph session, the racing was completed before 11 PM.
The final outcome of the great evening of racing action found the "DC Express" Danny Creeden seeking the outer reaches of the speedway as "he drove it where they weren't" to claim his second win of the season at Accord Speedway in the United Pump and Tank Modifieds. "The Little Rock" Matt Shultz raced to his first ever career win at Accord in the Arkel Motors Sportsman headliner. "The Jersey Force" Anthony Recchio was spot on in recording his fourth win of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman finale. Travis Brockner shook off his recent back luck at the speedway and proceeded to wire the field for his second win of the season in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature run. "The Cold Spring Kid" Jake Mason made it six wins for the season in the Want AD Digest Junior Slingshot feature. Jeremy "The Captain" Quick found the topside to be the quick side as he captured his initial win in 2017 in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car main event.
Joe Judge hammered down at the start of the United Pump and Tank Modified thirty lap main event and led the first dew laps while defending the flanks against Brian Malcolm and Kyle VanDuser. While Malcolm and VanDuser locked up in a dual, Judge stepped away from the field in a hurry. Earning some quality real estate at the top of the raceway, Creeden looked low then slid to the top of raceway as he found the fast seam and coming out of turn four slipped past both Malcolm and VanDuser to move into the runner-up slot. Judge had forged a huge lead, but Creeden was eating up the real estate quickly. As the leaders moved into slower traffic, Creeden stayed on top with Judge one lane lower and Creeden emerged as the leader on lap twelve. . before yielding to who stayed out front through lap five. Danny Creeden built up a commanding lead as he held the hot hand through the remainder of the event to claim win number at Accord for the 2017 racing season. Brad Rothaupt used some good moves off of the baseline to race into a runner-up finish with Danny Tyler coming from ninth starting place to finish third. Joe Judge and the returning Jerry Higbie completed the top five with Higbie coming from 14th starting position. Brian Malcolm headed up the second five with Richard Smith, Ed Dachenhausen, Jimmy Wells and Scott Ferrier following.
The WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman headliner found Jeff Higham leading the way for the first four laps of the event. After a mad scramble, a restart found John Miller taking over the lead for one lap before Anthony Recchio found the hot spot on the raceway to take over the point. Recchio would lead the remaining laps to race to his fourth win of the season in the division. Kevin Stevens raced to a solid runner-up finish with Higham nailing down third, Jared Miller fourth and John Miller completing the top five. Fred Smith headed up the second five with Hunter Lapp, Vinny Visconti, newcomer John Brown and Keith Johannessen finishing up the top ten.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman feature event found Matt Shultz grabbing up the early lead. Shultz had himself a fast hot rod but equally fast was Corey Cormier. With some restarts needed for some scrambles, the Shultz/Cormier battle was shaping up as a barn burner as Cormier was able to stick the nose of his race car under Shultz but could not make the winning pass as Shultz was running a near perfect race. The two remained close throughout the remainder of the event but it would be Shultz earning his first ever Accord Speedway over Cormier in another excellent Sportsman headliner. Cole Hentschel was third after stating ninth and Kyle Rohner made an exceptional run through the entire field to land in fourth place. Rich Ricci III completed the top five. The second five found Nick Johnson, the returning Danny Cross, Dave Demorest, Rafael Carson and Ralph Ronk following.
The WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint feature had last week's winner Larry McVay leading the first three laps until a mad skirmish found Brett Graham getting into McVay with Graham getting upside down and he and McVay both headed to the pits with damages. On the restart Jeremy Quick hustled to the point and took command of the event and he would lead the remaining laps to claim his first Accord Speedway win in some time. Eric Jennings, Tom Radivoy, Bob Tersillo, Heidi Hedin and Larry Ricci completed the field.
The Want AD Digest Junior Slingshot feature found Jake Mason returning to action and the young man dominated the action from start to finish to claim his sixth win of the season. Brock Pinkerous was second with newcomer Garrett Poland in third place.
The Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature found Travis Brockner jumping out front at the start of the event and it was just what he needed as he had to fight off the challenges of a very tough customer in Ray Tarantino to make his way to the WRWD Victory Lane. The win was number two for the season for Brockner. Tarantino was second in a strong run followed by Emerson Cargain Jr in third, John Hechinger fourth and Steve Williams fifth. Heading up the second five were the returning Livy Johnson, Craig Cuneo, Chris Kanuk, John Drake and James Goetchius.
GEMSTONES:
Promoter Gary Palmer offered up a great race track for the drivers as all four speed channels were utilized throughout the course of the evening and the drivers spoke highly of the track preparation.
Steve Lowitt and his United Pump and Tank group was the headline sponsor for the evening and enjoyed their time with the trackside presentations during camera and autograph night.
Heat races were run off quickly and Sportsman heat wins went to Matt Shultz, Tyler Johnston and Nick Plumstead. John Miller and Michael Corbin were victorious in the Rookie Sportsman qualifiers. Modified heats were claimed by Brad Rothaupt, Brian Malcolm and Ken Ferrier. Ray Tarantino and Emerson Cargain Jr claimed wins in the Pure Stock division heats. The Junior Slingshot heat was claimed by Jake Mason. Eric Jennings and Larry McVay captured the Sprint car heats.
New cars and drivers continue to add to the luster of the evening as the Sportsman ranks saw the addition of "Dynamite" Danny Cross and "The Tokyo Drift" Dana Carey. In the new Sprint Car Division, Larry Drake was a new addition to the field. John Brown was a new edition to the Rookie Sportsman ranks. Garrett Poland made his first start in the Junior Slingshots.
"Jumpin" John McGill filled in for the vacationing Tim Adams with the victory
lane interviews and did his usual top-flight job.
The camera and autograph session went off without a hitch as the grandstands emptied out for the fans to have a chat or get an autograph or two from their favorite drivers. Announcer Steve Pados interviewed as many drivers as time was allotted and tried to make sure each division was covered.
RESULTS:
