BELL TEAMS WITH BOAT, DOMINATES LINCOLN FOR POWRi WIN #29

LINCOLN, ILL. (June 30, 2019) - For Christopher Bell, a change of scenery could do nothing in deterring his drive to victory lane on Sunday night with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League for the 29th time in his storied, yet young career. Switching to the Tucker-Boat Motorsports, Pristine Auction, Spike/Toyota No. 84, the Norman, Okla. native went wire-to-wire at Lincoln Speedway to win in dominating fashion.

Starting from the pole position after he earned PAC Sprints High Point Man honors with a sixth-to-first heat race run, Bell guided the field to the green flag alongside Logan Seavey of Sutter, Calif. in the Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports, Mobil 1, Bullet-By-Spike/Toyota No. 67.

After leading the opening circuit, Bell nearly saw the lead slip from his grasp by lap two when he went to the test the high side of turns one and two. Allowing Seavey to pull alongside, the duo went wheel-to-wheel into turn three vying for the same real estate at the low line. Edging his front end into the corner and prevailing, Bell held on to the top spot and force Seavey to go searching for his next move.

While Bell kicked it into high gear and checked out, the battle for second heated up as Ace McCarthy of Tahlequah, Okla. snuck by Seavey when he bobbled on the top side of turns three and four. Several laps later, Seavey shot back by McCarthy and brought KKM teammate, Tanner Carrick, with him into the third spot.

The red flag flew on lap 23 for an upside down Jesse Colwell, who also collected Tanner Thorson in the mix. The break in action brought Bell's torrid pace to a screeching halt and snapped his monstrous 8.1 second lead over Seavey. Going back to green with seven laps to go, Bell had a giant cushion of six lap cars separating himself and Seavey, a near improbable mountain to overcome.

Quickly storming away and running off in command, Christopher Bell controlled the final seven laps at Lincoln Speedway with ease and found the checkered flag for his 29th-career POWRi National Midget League win. All 28 of Bell's previous POWRi triumphs came with Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports, the powerhouse team that he rose to fame with. However, on this night it was friend Chad Boat and Tucker-Boat Motorsports who he brought to victory lane, proving a change of scenery resulted in a standard outcome for the Norman, Okla. native.

Chasing Bell to the line and continuing his stellar 2019 campaign was Logan Seavey with a second-place finish in the Mobil No. 67 machine. Tanner Carrick of Lincoln, Calif. rounded out the podium aboard his Craftsman No. 71K. Zach Daum of Pocahontas, Ill. Claimed a fourth-place finish, while Tanner Thorson of Minden, Nev. rallied from a late crash to finish fifth. Closing out the top ten was Tyler Thomas in sixth, Ace McCarthy in seventh, Joe B. Miller in eighth, Cannon McIntosh in ninth and Tucker Klaasmeyer in tenth.

Scoring heat race victories over the 25-car field was Logan Seavey (Auto Meter Heat 1), Christopher Bell (KSE Racing Products Heat 2) and Presley Truedson (Advanced Racing Suspension Heat 3).

LARSON FINDS LATE NIGHT REDEMPTION AT ROUTE 66

By: Richie Murray - USAC Media

Joliet, Illinois (June 29, 2019).........Not that Kyle Larson needs any extra motivation when he straps into a Keith Kunz Motorsports/Curb-Agajanian midget, but any little bit that's added to the equation just makes it that much more difficult for the competition.

In the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car feature that preceded the night's midget feature, Larson was leading when, under a red flag, the Elk Grove, California driver was disqualified from the event for having a crew member outside of the designated work area.

When the time came to jump back in the midget for the late-night cap, there seemed to be no stopping Larson. By the end of the first lap of Saturday's USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget "Summer Slash" feature at the Dirt Oval at Route 66, Larson was contending for the lead. All this after starting sixth by virtue of setting quick time in his first ever visit to the 3/8-mile dirt oval.

Larson just missed the lead by a wheel at the line on both laps one and two as he rolled the bottom and series Rookie Jesse Colwell ripped the top. Colwell hung tough, but on the third lap, Larson set up Colwell for a slider, clearing him in turn two to capture the lead.

From there, Larson set off toward a half-straightaway lead that was deleted on lap 10 when USAC Triple Crown champ J.J. Yeley snagged the turn four curb, sending him into a violent crash down the front straightaway. Yeley spiraled three times through the air before landing and flipping once more, coming to a rest just shy of the flag stand. Yeley escaped without injury.

The common assumption was Larson was in a zone of his own. However, following the lap 11 restart, defending series champ Logan Seavey, who started 12th, was on the prowl, melting Larson's advantage down to two car lengths by lap 13. Seavey pasted himself to Larson's trail and, on lap 15, dove to the bottom of turn one, sliding up to the top in turn two to snare the lead.

"I felt like I was running good laps," Larson recalled. "Then, Logan threw a slider on me. I guess I was running 90 percent. I was like, 'crap, I got to step it up,' and that's when I started making mistakes."

There was no mistake on the following lap on behalf of Larson. Seavey, though, bobbled atop the turn four cushion on lap 16, allowing Larson to get a run on the bottom, which he used to slide Seavey back into turn one to regain the advantage up front.

On a lap 24 restart following a Cole Bodine turn three spin, Seavey's pursuit of Larson fell apart just as it resumed. Seavey snagged that same turn four curb that had bitten others throughout the night, riding like a bucking bronco for a moment before continuing on. That allowed Larson to break away and series point leader Tyler Courtney to capitalize with a slider of his own in turn two for second.

Kyle Larson's 16th victory of his USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget career equaled him with Rico Abreu, George Amick, Billy Cantrell, Lee Kunzman, Bobby Olivero and Henry Pens for 39th all-time.

The curb was definitely something that had weighed on Larson's mind during the feature. But he found a countering measure in the second half that kept his mind slightly at ease.

"I was just so scared of the curb off of four," Larson said. "It was really tall. These midgets, when they hit it, it's difficult to be consistent. There in the last half, I just started following it around and it was definitely a lot easier to run, and I could have more straightaway speed."

However, the deck was reshuffled when third-running Seavey spun in turn two with less than two laps remaining that set up a green-white-checkered finish. Larson was perfection as soon as the green dropped, riding the rim over the final two laps to take a 0.775 second win over Courtney, Tanner Carrick, Chris Windom and Kevin Thomas, Jr.

The win was the first of the season for Larson, who had made two previous starts during the recent "Indiana Midget Week." It was also the 16th victory of his USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget career, equaling him with Rico Abreu, George Amick, Billy Cantrell, Lee Kunzman, Bobby Olivero and Henry Pens for 39th all-time.

Contingency award winners Saturday night at Dirt Oval at Route 66 were Kyle Larson (Fatheadz Eyewear Fast Qualifier), Jason McDougal (Simpson Race Products First Heat Winner), Tyler Thomas (Competition Suspension, Inc. Second Heat Winner), Tanner Carrick (AutoMeter Third Heat Winner), Ace McCarthy (Indy Race Parts Fourth Heat Winner), Jason McDougal (KSE Racing Products Hard Charger), Zach Daum (Wilwood Brakes 13th Place Finisher) and Jake Neuman (Saldana Racing Products First Non-Transfer).

Hamlin, PA- Hamlin Speedway Places New Winners On Victory Circle
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

The premier racing facility in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, the Hamlin Speedway, once again showed how to get things done last evening with an exciting show in between rain drops that covered all of the hard work and dedication the Smith Family has placed into the facility. The tremendous racing season thus far in 2019 and the loyal fan base and talented roster of driving stars who converge at the speedway are appreciative of all of the hard work and determination that goes into preparing an exciting and fun-filled evening of racing. The racing action at the 1/5th mile clay-cushioned facility has been over the top with many outstanding driving personalities carving out their own claim to fame in weekly competition for age groups from 8 to 60 plus. Last night some new winners graced victory circle with some smiling faces all around. The racing was completed by 10:33 in the evening.

The 2019 season is eight weeks old and many special events have been already been completed but the heart of the racing schedule is still coming up in the next few weeks. Heading up the headlines for last evening’s show include RJ Sherman, who won the Junior Slingshot event in a wire to wire triumph, New York driving star Taylor Mills, who captured the All Star Slingshot win in great fashion and "Magic Shoes" Mike McLaughlin returning to action to score a big win in the Super Slingshot feature. Dennis Chamberlain won the JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless event and Joseph Smith who won over a quick field in the JPA Masonry Regular 600 Sprint main event. Tanner VanDohren captured the feature in the division for the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modifieds. Travis Fichter won the X-Cel Modified event after early leader of the event Geoff Sutton's machine let him down.

Joesph Smith grabbed the lead at the start of the JPA Masonry event and hustled out to a huge lead over Mack Brink, last week's winner Tyler Lindsay and track champion "The Travelin Man" Mick D'Agostino. The action that took place behind the Smith was engaging to say the least. Every turn and straightaway action was filled with excitement as the track was extremely racy as the drivers were able to race side by side for most of the event. Smith was the leader of the event and hit his marks around the speedway with precision excellence. Smith would claim the win with Brink, Lindsay and D'Agostino giving chase behind him in an exciting run for in second place. Dylan Martin was fifth with Cody Smith close behind him in sixth place. Noah Zielinski, Zack Weisenfluh, Michael Nolf followed the leaders.

In the Super Slinger action, Mike McLaughlin ran away and hid to go on and claim another win at the speedway. "The Fighting Irishman" John Gilroy would finish in the runner-up role and was the fastest car on the track as the laps closed down. Dle Kober would finish third while Allan Kober was fourth and solid Paul Ennes would finish in fifth place with Wes Hearn close behind him and Mark Exeter rounded out the finishers.

In the JPA Masonry Rookie 600 event, after being introduced to the crowd trackside, Dennis Chamblerlain began from a front row starting place and that and a big right foot would be all he needed to collect the gold on this evening. Carmen "Pops" Leggio was second with Tony Parlanti third, Jacob Eby fourth place and Michael Nolf was fifth. Richie Maguire headed up the second five with Kyle Ferrucci, Matt Brown, Rich Maguire, and Cody Powell.

The Amantea Real Estate Junior Slingshot event found RJ Sherman taking no prisoners as he charged forward as the green flag fell. Many battles were forming up behind him and it allowed Sherman to whisk away to another dimension. Aiden Donaldson, Doug Smith, Aiden Elliot and Charlene Benz were all part of the give and take behind Sherman. Kasey Hufcut, Chase Zimmer and Isabella Van Orden followed.

In the All Star Slingshot encounter, Taylor Mills blasted into the lead at the start of the event and held off all of the competition for the win. Shelby McLaughlin, hustled into runner-up honors with the returning Cody Kline residing in third place. Paul Ennes hustled hard to fourth place while Dale Kober was handling fifth place with ease. Wes Hearn continued his steady work for sixth place, with James Benz, Ashley Kober, Brian Smith and CJ Fritz rounding out the top ten.

In the event for the Stage One Modifieds, "TVD" Tanner Van Dohren outhustled Jeff Hineline at the start and left the field in his wake as he went on to win the event. Hineline was second with Anthony "Chops" Chrobak third and himself doing an admirable job in containing those behind him such as Adam Buchel, Amanda Buchel and Evan Civick.

The X-Cel Modifieds returned to action at Hamlin and Travis Fichter showed the field the fast way around the clay. He won a close battle over Kevin VanValkenburg.

Pearl Jams:

The track was racy from start to finish and Track Promoter Randy Smith contnued to work on the speedway as necessary for the activity on the speedway was non-stop throughout. Smith had an over the top track for all of the racing teams with the clay of the speedway so moist it pulled the shoes off of your feet when walking the track surface.

Cody Kline and Taylor Mills captured the heat wins in the All Star Slingshots last evening. Carmen Leggio, Michael Nolf and Tyler Lindsay won the Rookie 600 heats. The Junior Slingshot heat went to Aiden Elliot. In the Regular 600 Sprints, Mack Brink bested all comers and Alan Kober was tops in the Super Slinger heat. The Stage One Modified heat found Tanner VanDohren being victorious. Travis Fichter captured the heat win for the X-Cell Modifieds.

Announcer Steve Pados did another excellent job in announcing all of the rookie drivers to the crowd. Another highlight of the evening was to have senior citizens pick the numbers for the which the drivers involved were to start their event from.

Mike Enright captured the 50/50 deal last evening.

The Annual Vet Stock raffle tickets are up for sale with the first place prize of the Custom American/Checkered Flag, the second place prize of the Ruger 22 Caliber Rifle and a third place prize of $500.00 ready to whet your appetitie. The speedway is also seeking donations for the Hungarian Auction that will take place at the speedway on July 6th. With the event, a big 100-lap event will take place for the all Star Slingshots on this evening of speed and giving to our vets who make our freedom and our way of life possible.

Aaron Reutzel rallies from ninth to win Bill Waite, Jr. Memorial Classic at Route 66

JOLIET, Ill. (June 29, 2019) - Powered by perseverance, as well as a healthy serving of determination, Clute, Texas’ Aaron Reutzel did what some would consider the impossible on Saturday night during his visit to the Dirt Oval at Route 66 in Joliet, Ill., ultimately concluding his evening with an impressive charge from the inside of row five, all after rebuilding a destroyed race car as the result of a flip during his respective Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1/IRA Outlaw Sprint Series dash.

With the help of an array of sprint car teams scattered throughout the pit area, Aaron Reutzel and the familiar Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports, No. 87 entry made the main event call, eventually leading over half of the 30-lap program to score the $5,000 payday. The victory not only bumped Retuzel’s 2019 All Star Circuit of Champions win total to four, leading all competitors this season, but the win also bumped Reutzel back on top of the All Star driver championship standings, now with a two point lead over 2019 Ohio Sprint Speedweek champion, Hartford, Ohio’s Dale Blaney.

Incidentally, Dale Blaney finished second on Saturday night at Route 66, followed by Paul McMahan, Cory Eliason, and multi-time IRA champion, Bill Balog.

“What an effort by this team. I really can’t say enough about these guys. We weren’t sure what to do, but we ended up fixing the car that we flipped. Actually, if it wasn’t for everyone else jumping in to help us, I’m not sure we would have been able to get back out there without having to go to a back-up car. Being able to start ninth rather than 24th made all the difference,” Aaron Reutzel said, driver of the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Nattress Construction/Hollywood Coating & Blasting/No. 87 sprint car. “A big thanks to the entire Rudeen Racing team, Brian and Stacy Kemenah, Paul McMahan, Mike McGhee and his guys, Thomas Meseraull; they all helped us get things back together. What a group of guys out here traveling with the All Stars this year. They all jump in and help each other.”

Kyle Larson, who started from the pole position on Saturday night before leading the first 13 circuits, was eventually disqualified during a red flag break on lap 14. A work area violation forced the disqualification, as one of Larson’s crew members left the designated work area to speak with Larson under caution.

Regardless of Larson’s speed and eventual disqualification, Reutzel was a sure-fire favorite, as the defending All Star champion climbed ahead from ninth to fifth in just four circuits. By lap seven, Reutzel was third, charging his way around Paul Nienhiser and Parker Price-Miller as the trio battled in traffic.

A caution on lap 13 allowed Reutzel the opportunity to drive by Paul McMahan for second. Although the opportunity prevailed, action was soon halted yet again, this time for a red flag incident on lap 14. Larson’s aforementioned disqualification occurred at that time.

Although two additional red flag incidents would halt action on lap 22, and again on lap 30 - setting up a green-white-checkered finish - it was all Reutzel, pulling away every time to a commanding advantage.

“I felt like I was catching Kyle [Larson]. I’m not sure what kind of a pace he was keeping because I know when I got the lead, I slowed my pace down,” Aaron Reutzel continued. “I think I was just as good as Kyle was during that first half. I know we are tired of getting beat by him, and he doesn’t like to lose races. I’m sure it would have been a great race with us two up front.”

With the month of June officially in the books, Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions will now prepare for an action-packed month of July, kicking things off with an Independence Day weekend doubleheader on Friday and Saturday, July 5 & 6. The holiday weekend will commence on Friday evening, July 5, at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania. Originally slated for early May, the Lernerville visit was eventually canceled with only engine heat being completed. An early evening storm, which doused the entire facility, forced the eventual cancellation.

Action will move to Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, on Saturday, July 6. Honoring 2013 National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee, Lou Blaney, the coveted Lou Blaney Memorial will be on tap at the northeast Ohio venue, awarding a top prize equalling $6,000.

For more information pertaining to upcoming events at Lernerville Speedway and Sharon Speedway, fans should visit each facility online at www.lernerville.com and www.sharonspeedway.com.

Matt Covington Masters The Fred Brownfield Classic With The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series

Bryan Hulbert - ELMA, Wash. (June 29, 2019) A preliminary night winner in 2017, Oklahoma's Matt Covington added the Fred Brownfield Classic championship night to his list of accomplishments on Saturday night with his first Sawblade.com A-Feature victory of the year with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.
Covington's ninth career victory with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, the win as a much-needed one for the team who saw Dirt Cup ripped from their hands one week ago.

Winner Matt Covington (ASCS Photo)

"We needed this. Man, we needed this win. I thought we had Dirt Cup in the bag and had a Rod Bolt let go. Nothing on our engine builder, I tried to take old parts and make them last too long. Mark at Shark Racing Engines definitely stepped our program up," stated Covington, who is the season's 10th different winner.

Winning the race for the lead into the first two turns, Covington set a quick pace around the Grays Harbor Raceway with Colton Heath in tow. Caution working Lap 7 for Jay Cole who rolled to a stop entering the first turn, Heath tried for the lead on the restart but was denied as Reece Goetz and Jason Solwold set their sights on the Triple X Race Co. No. 33. Grabbing the runner-up spot on Lap 8, the run for Goetz was short lived as Solwold slid both drivers to move from fourth to second off the fourth turn on Lap 9.
Allowing Covington to open a sizable advantage, the Scottie Plumbing No. 18 began searching around the track. Finding a line just off the cushion of the Grays Harbor Raceway, Solwold began picking away at Covington's lead. Moving the gap to 0.855 seconds in clean air, traffic loomed for the leaders, but the caution would come out instead as Chris Bullock looped his No. 17c in the second turn; directly in the path of the leaders. Everyone was able to avoid.

Diving low in the Lap 12 restart, Solwold pulled even for the race lead as the pair hit the back straightaway. Diving to the bottom the close the door on Solwold's run, Covington forced the No. 18 out of the throttle. Letting the car drift off the bottom through the fourth turn, the T&L Foundry No. 95 was again pressured. Rushing the bottom again into the first turn, this time Covington stuck the hub to protect the race lead.

On the challenge for the lead, Matt explained, "He showed by a nose and I had to chop him hard. It was for the win, and I knew I wasn't going to get another chance if he got the run. It was fun and I'm glad we came out on top. We've got a couple wins this year, but the National Tour has tough to get. I've run second a lot, and flat gave a few away and I was determined not to let that happen here."

Working back into slower traffic in the closing laps, Covington's pace was nearly unchanged as he crossed under the checkered flag 3.849 seconds ahead of Jason Solwold. Running out of laps to contend for the runner-up spot, Scott Bogucki picked up his fourth podium finish of the season in the Sawblade.com No. 28. The night's Hard Charger from 14th to fourth, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. reclaimed the point's lead by 44 markers with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network. Washington's Austen Wheatley ended up fifth after racing as high as third during the race's mid-point.

Colton Heath slipped to sixth with Reece Goetz to seventh after racing for second early on. Robbie Price picked up eight positions to eighth with Roger Crockett rebounding from a Friday DNF to a ninth-place finish. New Zealand's Brayton Davison completed the top ten.

A total of 35 drivers took part in the Fred Brownfield Classic weekend with 31 making the call on Saturday night. A four pack of SCE Gaskets Heat Races went to Austen Wheatley, Seth Bergman, Colton Heath, and Matt Covington. The BMRS B-Feature was won by Cam Smith. One Provisional was used by Blake Hahn.
With the Independence Day Weekend off, the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network goes green again at the NAPA of Montana Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont. on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13. The race where it takes more guts to stand in Victory Lane than it did to win, the winners will stand with a nine-foot-tall Grizzly Bear named Adam. Information on the track is online at www.galatinspeedway.com.

41K CHAMPION: Brad Sweet wins 2019 Jackson Nationals
By holding off 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz to win at Jackson Motorplex, Brad Sweet pockets $41,000 payday

The “Big Cat” Brad Sweet was starving for the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win at Jackson Motorplex Saturday night.

He’s tasted victory six times already this season – including a win Thursday night at Jackson Motorplex – but with $41,000 and the title of Jackson Nationals champion on the line, his appetite wouldn’t be appeased until the night’s entrée was his.

He had to battle through cautions, lap traffic, smoking tires and an equally as hungry Donny Schatz, but at the end of the 35-lap Feature, Sweet drove his NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 car to Victory Lane for the seventh time this year, claiming the 41st Annual AGCO Jackson Nationals.

“Forty-one thousand, that’s awesome,” Sweet said. “These big money races are hard to win.”

After winning opening night of the Jackson Nationals, Thursday, and finishing fifth Friday night, his total combined points locked him into the pole position for Saturday night’s DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. He dominated the field in the Dash, pulling away to a 3.5 second lead over second-place Daryn Pittman by the end.

Sweet had the plate of $41,000 in his hands and was ready to walk away with it. But when the Feature went green, he found himself having to brawl for it.

Pittman charged around the outside of Sweet through turns one and two to take the lead. The next time around, Sweet dove underneath Pittman in turn one, putting the two side-by-side at the exit of turn two. Neither were going to lift. But to avoid sliding up into Pittman, Sweet had to jerk his car sideways and allowed the Roth Enterprises No. 83 car to pull away.

Pittman held command of the lead for the next 11 laps before there was contact between he and the lap car of Austin McCarl, which sent McCarl rolling into turn one.

When the race went back green after the red flag, Sweet got the jump on Pittman, clearing him for the lead before they got back to the flag stand. Into turn one, Sweet moved to the top of the track, blocking Pittman’s line. The Grass Valley, Calif-native then pulled away to about a four-car-length lead exiting turn two.

Pittman’s fortunes continued to decline with Schatz working his way by the Oklahoma-native and dropping him to third – where he would remain for the rest of the Feature.

“I keep finding ways to lose races,” said Pittman, whose third-place finish was his seventh top-five in-a-row. “Getting frustrating, but my Roth Motorsports guys keep working really hard. They’re doing a great job.”

Leaving Pittman in third, Schatz began his hunt of Sweet. With just three wins this season, so far, and his last win coming nine races ago, the 10-time Series champion was as hungry as Sweet to return to Victory Lane.

Sweet lost grip exiting turn two on the slick track while trying to pass a lap car, with 11 laps to go. That allowed Schatz to close on Sweet and dive underneath him in turn three. The two were side-by-side exiting turn four with Sweet smoking his tires on the rubbered down groove of the track and Schatz fighting to keep his car straight.

“It didn’t surprise me one bit when the fifteen (car) was sneaking under me,” said Sweet, who has battled Schatz for the points lead all season long. “He’s got me chasing my tail a little bit.”

After Schatz’s attempt at passing the Kasey Kahne Racing car, Sweet got into a rhythm. He found his line and rode it for the remaining 10 laps to claim his 41st career Series win during the 41st Annual Jackson Nationals with a $41,000 payday.

“Once I got in clean track, I knew just to run right in the rubber and I didn’t want to allow any runs to happen,” Sweet said. “It was just one of those things where we were just good enough to get the win tonight. It wasn’t pretty I don’t think, but that’s why you set yourself up all weekend to get in the right position and we were in the right position and we were able to get the win.”

Schatz’s second-place finish was a rebound from Friday when he blew a motor while leading the Dash and ended up eighth in the Feature.

“Hats off to these (Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing) guys,” Schatz said. “They’re digging. They’ve got an awesome race car. The driver’s got to step up to the plate a little bit, start swinging a bigger bat. We’ll work on that.”

Sweet has now won five of the last seven races. That’s resulted in him extending his championship lead to 72-points over Schatz.

“We’ve had a good little run here,” Sweet said. “It’s been a lot of fun.”

While the “Big Cat’s” winning appetite was appeased Saturday night, hunger is sure to return next week.
