PAUCH JR. TAKES TOP HONORS AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY’S GARDEN STATE GUNFIGHT
New Egypt, NJ (June 26, 2019) – At New Egypt Speedway’s Garden State Gunfight 3, Billy Pauch Jr. took top honors in the Modified race. In the Crate vs. Open Sportsman main event, Will Dupree was declared the winner. The Mike’s Performance 4-Cylinder contest was taken by Jimmy Avery.
As the 60-lap Modified feature got underway, polesitter Brandon Grosso hopped to the front with Jeff Strunk, Billy Pauch Jr. and David VanHorn in tow. With five revolutions recorded, Grosso was beginning to edge away from Strunk, VanHorn and Pauch Jr. Grosso’s margin over the field was a full straightaway when the yellow lights illuminated for the first time on lap twelve for a tangle between John Pakenham and Chris Grbac. When action returned, Grosso was still setting the pace with Strunk, David VanHorn and Pauch Jr. dicing for second. After a pair of caution periods on lap fifteen and seventeen, Grosso remained in control with Strunk, Pauch Jr., Van Horn and Duane Howard filling out the top five. By lap twenty-one, Grosso was pulling away from the pack but the activity behind him was heating up as Strunk was still riding in second and trying to fend off the third place running Howard and fourth place running VanHorn. Two tours later, Howard advanced into the runner-up position past Strunk. On lap twenty-six, Jimmy Horton slowed on the dirt oval and the caution flag waved one more time. On the ensuing restart, Grosso fended off his rivals to maintain the lead with Howard in second, Pauch Jr. returning to third and Strunk dropping back to fourth. Over the next few circuits with Grosso increasing his lead, the battle for second place saw Pauch Jr. acquire the spot from Howard on lap twenty-eight before Howard retook the position on lap thirty-one. At the fuel stop on lap thirty-five, Grosso, Howard, Pauch Jr, Strunk and VanHorn were recorded as the top five. During the brief break in the action, Howard relinquished second place to Pauch Jr. with a visit to the pits to replace a flat right rear tire. When the green flag waved to resume the contest, Grosso was on top with Pauch Jr. in second, Strunk in third, VanHorn in fourth and Mike Butler in fifth. With twenty laps remaining, Grosso had a several car length margin over Pauch Jr, VanHorn, Strunk and Danny Bouc. By lap forty-five, Grosso’s advantage had narrowed as Pauch Jr. began to use the lower groove in turns one and two to close in on the leader. On lap forty-eight, a multi-circuit duel for the lead began between Grosso and Pauch Jr. After a clean side-by-side battle, Pauch Jr. surged past Grosso to gain the lead with nine laps to go. Grosso tried in vain to return to the top on lap fifty-two but was repelled by Pauch Jr. With five to go, Pauch Jr. was approaching slower traffic when Cale Ross’s spin took place just in front of the leader and the yellow flag waved for the final time. On the single file restart, Pauch Jr. held off Grosso to remain on top. Over the last circuits, Pauch Jr. went unchallenged to claim his twenty-fourth Modified feature win. Behind the winner and second place finishing Grosso, late surges allowed Danny Bouc to finish in third and fifteenth place starting Frank Cozze to come home in fourth. VanHorn completed the event in fifth. The Modified heats were taken by Danny Bouc, Duane Howard and Davey Sammons.
In the 30-lap Crate vs. Open Sportsman feature, twelfth place starting Will Dupree was pronounced the victor. Ryan Heim, who had seized the lead on the fifth circuit and crossed the finish line in first, was unfortunately disqualified for failing to make the post-race minimum weight. The win was the fourth of Dupree’s career. The runner-up position was taken by Jeremy Martino. Bob Lineman Jr. was third. Fourth went to Jim Housworth while Ryan Simmons was fifth. Joseph Brown and Eric Palmer won the qualifying events.
In the Mike’s Performance 4-Cylinders feature, Jimmy Avery grabbed the top spot from TJ Graves on the twelfth circuit and held on to win the originally scheduled 20-lap event which was shortened by five tours due to the time limit. The victory was the first of the year for Avery. With Graves taking second, Justin Dunn came home in third. Joe Garey Jr. and Joe Garey Sr. rounded out the top five.
On Saturday, June 29, Pakenham Motorsports Bike Night rides into New Egypt Speedway with half price general admission for all motorcyclists and bike giveaways for the kids. On the track, the Vahlco Modifieds, Larry's Hot Rods & Harley's Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, Hammer Sportsman and Street Stocks will be in action. The pit gates swing open at 4:00 p.m. and the grandstand ticket window opens at 5:00 p.m. Hot laps start at 6:00 p.m. with the first green flag waving at 7:00 p.m. Admission to the grandstand is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for teens 12-15, $10 for military personal and their spouses with ID, and Kids 11 & under are FREE. Pit admission is $30 with a New Egypt Speedway license and $40 without.

The Bridgeport Speedway’s fourth annual Pack the House Night was a huge success as fans filed through the gates from four o’clock until well after the start of the night’s racing action. Fans enjoyed the free musicial entertainment, camera and autograph day, the many food concessions and the Bandit Bus before the start of the night’s events.
Fans were treated to a night of racing action among six different divisions. The South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman, Sunbelt Rentals Outlaw Stocks and the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) raced on the lightning fast 5/8th mile track while the Ace Overhead Door 600 Micro Sprints, the JS Weld-Rite/Mongoose Chassis 270 Micro Sprints and Slingshots raced on the Spirit Speedway quarter mile track. There was also a hot lap session for the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds held on the 5/8th mile track.
The South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman opened the night of racing with their twenty lap feature event. Polesitter, Eric Kormann led the first eleven laps around the 5/8th mile track before Steve Kemery drove into contention from his tenth place start. Kemery caught up to the leader and then made his pass for the lead with a move to inside off turn three on lap twelve. Kemery then drove away from the competition to claim his third victory of the 2019 season.

Kormann finished a strong second followed by Jim Gallagher, Jr.in third. Matt Peck added a fourth to his collections of top fives this season with last week’s feature winner, Tom Sherby rounding out the top five. Travis Hill finished sixth followed by Tommy Errico, David Crossman, Howard Huepfel and Bobby Bracall completed the top ten in the running order at the checkered flag.
Tom Wills, Jr. turned his 2019 season around with his third win of the season in the Sunbelt Rentals Outlaw Stocks.
Polesitter, Nick Sandone led the first lap as the field raced three wide behind the leader for the runner-up position. Andrew Joslin won that battle and then took the lead as he raced Sandone off of turn two on the second lap. Wills, Jr. drove through the pack, taking the lead as he raced Joslin to the start finish line on lap three.
Wills, Jr. pulled away from the competition as Lee Allen took over second followed by Mike Creamer, Gary Klimeczak and Brian Ludwig through lap five.
Creamer raced by Allen on a lap eleven restart to take over second while Klimeczak and Ludwig continued the battle for fourth right down to the checkered flag.
Wills, Jr. took the win over Creamer and Allen with Ludwig edging out Klimeczak at the finish line.

Ricky DiEva, a former Big Block Modified competitor at the Bridgeport Speedway, moved into full time competition with the MASS 305 sprint cars this season and picked up his first victory in front of a packed house on Saturday night. DiEva led from the wave of the green flag to the finish to capture the victory over Andy Best who has already won a MASS event earlier this season.
This was the third race for the MASS Sprint Cars at Bridgeport this season but the first on the 5/8th mile track.

DiEva led Best to the finish with Rick Stief finishing third. Eddie Wagner, who has played an integral role in DiEva’s sprint car experience, finished fourth with Jason Dunn taking fifth. Larry McVay finished sixth followed by Tom Carberry, Joe Kay, Tyler Brehm and Scott Frack.
Bridgeport invader, Jacob Hendershot debuted a new car and immediately put the No. 27 into Victory Lane in its maiden voyage in the JS Weld-Rite/Mongoose Chassis 270 Micro Sprint feature.
Pole sitter, Johnny Trendler led the first two times around the Spirit Speedway quarter mile. Hendershot, who started third in the twenty lap feature raced into the lead on lap three and never looked back. Three time feature winner, Alex Swift finished second followed by Brandon Shipley who recovered from an earlier incident, restarted at the rear of the field and drove back to a third place finish. Kyle Weiss finished fourth with Glenn Macomber taking fifth. Tom Landwher, Shea Wills, Ross Holler, John West and Ken Andreas completed the top ten at the end of twenty laps.

2017 Track Champion, Matt Smith, drove to his third win of the season in the Ace Overhead Door 600 Micro Sprint Feature.
Polesitter, Jon Keller led the first five circuits around the quarter mile before Smith made his way to the front from his eighth place start. Gary Bozowski quickly raced into second on the first lap and held off any challengers to cross the finish line behind Smith for second. Luke Thomas finished third with PJ Williams in fourth and Jon Keller finishing fifth.

Brandon Pavel, Lee Nardelli, Richie Keller, Travis Hill and Mike Thompson who won the consolation event, completed the top ten in the running order.
Ryan Davey took the lead on the first lap of the Slingshot feature to earn his second win of the season at the Spirit Speedway. Dave McCullough trailed the leader to the finish with Ryan Harris finishing third. Dave Morrell finished fourth with Tomas Mowery rounding out the top five.
It was a beautiful June night for racing. It was a full night of racing action – the first for many in attendance. The Pack the House night continues at the Bridgeport Speedway.
There will be three nights of racing this weekend as the Spirit Auto Center quarter mile runs a regular show on Friday night with 270 & 600 Micro Sprints and Slingshots. The 270s will be featured in Twin 15 lap feature events. Racing gets underway at 8pm. The action moves to Bridgeport’s 5/8th mile track on Saturday night for Quarter Midget Night with the Big Block Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman, Outlaw Stocks and Rookies with racing getting underway at 7pm.
Then on Sunday, it’s Poker Series time on the Spirit quarter mile for the 270 & 600 Micro Sprints, Slingshots and Xcel 600 Modifieds. Racing starts on Sunday at 6:30pm.

(June 22, 2019): Cale Ross of Lambertville, NJ won his first career Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event on Graduation night Saturday at New Egypt Speedway. The 2016 NES Rookie champion, turned Modified Rookie this year, dominated the evening winning his heat race and then leading all 30 laps of the non stop event in just 9 minutes and 13 seconds. Ross survived a late race challenge from John McCelland in heavy lapped traffic to record the victory in just his 11th Modified start.
“I am really surprised to be standing here, We were broke after warm-ups”, stated a shocked Ross in victory lane, “But our engine-builder Gary Bouc ran around & got us fixed and here we are!”
McClelland and Ross brought the field to the start with Ross seizing control as they exited turn two. Ross, with McClelland in tow, pulled away from the rest of the field over the first half of the event. Danny Bouc & Ryan Krachun were the fast movers in the early going as they raced into the top 5. Point leader Billy Pauch Jr. charged up from 14th starting position and began challenging for a top five spot as the race reached the halfway point. By lap 19 Ross had almost a full straightaway lead over McClelland as he began to encounter lapped traffic. The traffic slowed him up a bit but he continued to smoothly lap each one as McClelland began to cut into his advantage. With 7 laps to go he approached the cars of Jimmy Blewett and JR Fulper racing side by side for position. After several laps of trying to find a way past them “Johnny Mac” had just about erased his big lead. But with 2 laps remaining Ross made the move of the race as he “threaded the needle” between the two cars going into turn three and then cruised to the popular victory. John McClelland finished in the second position posting his season best finish, as Rich Rutski also posted his season best finish crossing the line third. Pauch Jr. and Bouc completed the top five.
Aaron Weaver of Upper Black Eddy, PA was also a first time winner on this evening as he recorded his first career win in the Crate Modified 20 lap feature event, which ran the final 19 laps non-stop. Weaver held on in lapped traffic as Jeremy Martino and Tom Princiotta, both searching for their first win, applied late race pressure before settling for second and third respectively. Dan Fleming finished fourth and Ryan Simmons rounded out the top five.
Steve Davis visited victory lane for the second time this season with the Hammer Sportsman. Davis avoided an early race pile-up and then held off a persistent Will Dupree to win the 20 lap event. Joseph Brown came home third, chased across the line by 2018 Rookie champ Ryan Heim and 3 time Sportsman champ Bob Lineman Jr.
The Lyons Construction/MetalFab Rookie’s ran their final event with Ryan Krushinski winning for the second straight week. Vinny Troia nipped DJ Hunt at the line for second in the 12 lap Graduation night finale. Anthony Tramontana Jr. of Vineland, NJ was crowned the 2019 NES Rookie champion after finishing fourth.
Vern McLaughlin out ran point leader Billy Liedtka for the 15 lap Street Stock victory. Billy Wroble, Joe Reid and Dennis Seeley chased the duo at the finish.
This Tuesday night it is the third annual Garden State Gunfight for the Modifieds. The Modifieds will race in a 60 lap Feature event paying $6000 to win and $400 to start. Also in action will be the Crate vs.Open Sportsman in a 30 lap Main event paying $1000 to win and $100 to start. The Mike’s Performance 4-cylinders will also be racing in a 15 lap event, which if they have 24 or more cars, it will pay $500 to the winner. Adult Admission will be $25, with kids 11 and under always Free. Pit gates open at 4pm, Grandstand gates open at 5pm, Warm-ups will be at 6pm and Racing begins at 7pm. The rain date for this event is the following evening, Wednesday 6/26 !
Next week Sat. night June 29th it is Bike night at New Egypt Speedway. Everyone that comes on a motorcycle will receive ½ price general admission and there will be plenty of Bicycle giveaways for the kids at intermission. The Vahlco Wheels Modifieds will once again headline the event, and they will be joined on the track by the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harleys NEWS Sprint Cars, the Hammer Sportsman, and the Street Stocks. Admission will be $20 for Adults, and gates will open at 5pm, with warm-ups at 6pm and the first race taking place at 7pm.

LEADING THE WAY: Sweet wins at Beaver Dam for back-to-back wins
Brad Sweet continues early season dominance by winning at Beaver Dam Raceway, extending his points lead over Donny Schatz
In the words of Brad Sweet, “the more you lead, the better you get at it.” The statement rings like a prophecy he wrote from himself.
Almost halfway through the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series 2019 season, Sweet has made leading a habit and gotten better at it each race.
With more than 100 laps led already this season, the Grass Valley, Calif.-native added another 38 laps to that total after claiming his fifth win of the season Saturday night at Beaver Dam Raceway – and his second win in-a-row.
“I’m just happy we’re clicking them off and have a little bit of momentum on our side,” said Sweet, after claiming his 39th career Series victory.
His second victory at the Wisconsin track wasn’t earned without a few faults and lessons learned along the way.
The 1/3-mile track was slick and technical for the 40-lap Feature, he said. That meant finding the right line at the right time; a feat the Kasey Kahne Racing driver faults himself for not executing perfectly.
But before the track began to take rubber late in the race, forcing Sweet to contemplate the best line, he had to contest with DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash winner Shane Stewart for the lead.
On the initial start, Stewart jumped to the lead riding the high side of the track. Sweet chose the bottom. In two laps, the advantage proved to be Sweet’s. The NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 sped by Stewart, putting close to a second gap between them.
His newfound lead was cut short a few seconds later when Logan Schuchart brought out the first caution of the night by coming to a stop in turn three.
On the restart, Sweet returned to form. He shot to the lead, leaving the remaining 23 cars to content for second amongst themselves. Stewart held on to the position for the next few laps before trying the low line and bicycling his car off turn four, giving Daryn Pittman an easy pass for second-place.
For the remaining 33 laps, third-place was traded between Stewart, David Gravel, Sheldon Haudenschild, Donny Schatz and Ian Madsen. Each driver throwing a slide job on the next to try and claim the position.
By the halfway point, Sweet caught lap traffic and Pittman started to close in. However, navigating lap traffic – a situation Sweet has found himself in several times already this year while leading – only made him faster.
Pittman eventually transitioned to the high side and again began to close in on Sweet. But with 15 laps to go, Sweet also moved to the top and pulled away to the $20,000 victory.
“It was finesse. It was tricky,” Sweet said about the race. “I had to move around on the race track. I think the bottom caught a few guys off guard. I don’t know if they thought they should be on the bottom in (turns) three and four. I kind of had an idea. I did my warm up down there to see how much grip was down there.
“Luckily it was good down there early and I was able to get the lead. I made a couple of mistakes there. I probably stayed down there too long. But I didn’t want to follow lap guys. It’s just tricky sometimes leading and moving around.”
While Pittman’s second-place finish – his third podium finish in-a-row – was a momentum building performance with his Roth Motorsports team, he’s hungry for more.
“It just feels like it’s been a while since I won,” said Pittman, who last won in Florida in February. “I’ve gone from, how do we turn things around, to being consistent, to now dammit I want to win. We’ve still got to get a little bit better, but we’re close.”
The duel for third was won by the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 car of Gravel. In JJR’s return to Beaver Dam Raceway after Jason Johnson’s fatal accident at the raceway last year, Gravel kept the No. 41 car up front all night. He was fastest in practice, went Quick Time in Qualifying, won his Drydene Heat race and fought hard for a podium.
“We wanted to win tonight, but we’re happy with a podium,” Gravel said. “Third is good. We’ve been rolling pretty good here. Just have to keep it going.”
Gravel’s podium finish leaves him fourth in points – 144 points behind leader Sweet. Pittman is third – 138 points back – and Schatz is second – now 54 points behind Sweet after finishing seventh.
Along with the points lead, Sweet now leads World of Outlaws drivers in the most laps led, the most podium finishes – with 12 – and most wins, so far, this year. To Sweet, though…
“It really doesn’t mean a whole lot,” Sweet said. “It’s not a bad thing ever to, toward the end of June, have the most wins. But I’ve been there before. I’ll keep saying it over and over and over, these next few months, July, August and in even September, those are the months that are going to make or break the season. You can run good all the way to July 1 and never win another race.”
Consistency is key to Sweet and his Kasey Kahne Racing team. Lead more, win more.
The more he leads, the better he gets.

Canada's Robbie Price Wins His First Career Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup!

(June 22, 2019) Three leaders, six lead changes, and then a list of firsts for Robbie Price in the 48th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by the Skagit Casino Resort as the driver of the Millstone Heating and Sheetmetal No. 21p landed his first $15,000 Dirt Cup paycheck and his first Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network victory.
Becoming the first Canadian born driver to top the Skagit Speedway crown jewel, Robbie is also the youngest driver at 21-years old to win the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup.

"It's always good to come home, and it gives me some peace of mind. I like it a lot, and I'll be honest, we've sucked a lot this year so to come out here and win, it's such a great feeling and a great accomplishment. I'm just excited," said a nearly breathless Robbie Price, who is the 147th different winner in Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition.
Taking the green from the fourth spot, Price chased Jason Solwold for third as Blake Hahn took off with the top spot after an opening lap drag race with Matt Covington. Leaders into traffic on Lap 7, the top two runners closed to a nose to tail battle with both struggling to clear the back-markers. Trying to swing low on a slower car on Lap 13, Hahn made contact and spun. Never coming to a stop, and inadvertent caution was thrown to bring the field single file with Hahn in lining up in fifth.
Handing the lead to Matt Covington, the A-Rock Material No. 95 pulled away in clean air with Robbie Price under fire from Jason Solwold as the pair went slide for slide over the next few laps. Keeping pace at the line over the No. 18, Price began running down Covington who had started to work back into slower traffic. Taking advantage of slower cars, Price took a shot at the lead with Covington answering the challenge. Back and forth through traffic, Covington and Price used the slower cars as picks as Jason Solwold closed with Blake Hahn and Colton Heath in tow.
With the top five nearly under a blanket, Robbie Price took over the top spot on Lap 22. Stalked by Covington, the No. 95 reclaimed the lead on Lap 27, but Covington's night would fall 10 laps shy of the $15,000 payday as the engine expired on Lap 30.
Putting the lead back in the hands of Robbie Price, the No, 21p took the green with a lapped car between himself and Jason Solwold. Held up by the slower machine, Solwold and Hahn battled for second before the caution flew on Lap 33 for Justyn Cox who spun to a stop in the second turn.
Clearing the No. 18 for second on Lap 35, Hahn trailed by nearly two seconds as the leaders ran all out in clean air. Closing every lap on Price, the leaders hit traffic as the white flag waved with Hahn pulling to the back bumper of Robbie into the third turn. Trying to mount the run off the final turn, Robbie Price would not be denied as he bested Hahn by 0.364 seconds.
Fighting from seventh, 2018 Dirt Cup winner, Seth Bergman ran to third in the closing laps with Jason Solwold settling for fourth. Picking up eight spots for the night's Hard Charger, Australia's Scott Bogucki completed the top five in the same car that he went upside down in the night before. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. fought to sixth with Colton Heath in seventh. Travis Jacobson picked up six spots to finish eighth with John Carney II ending his first Dirt Cup in ninth. Devon Borden completed the top ten.
A total of 51 drivers checked in for the 2019 Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup. B-Features were topped by Greg Hamilton and Justin Sanders. No Provisionals were allowed.
The next event for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network is the Fred Brownfield Classic at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash. on Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29. Tickets on sale at www.graysharborraceway.com.
