Dale Blaney holds off Scelzi and Larson for Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Indy Metal Finishing victory at Muskingum County Speedway
DRESDEN, Ohio (June 16, 2019) - Although it took nearly three years for Hartford, Ohio’s Dale Blaney to find Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory lane before his triumph at Stateline Speedway on June 8, it took only eight days to do it again, this time earning night three of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Indy Metal Finishing at Muskingum County Speedway in Dresden, Ohio.
Forced to withstand heavy offense from a pair of California hotshots, Gio Scelzi and Kyle Larson, Blaney’s Speedweek triumph ultimately bumped his career win total to 136 with Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions, now with two victories in 2019. Impressive enough, Blaney nearly swept the Speedweek program at Muskingum County, winning his respective heat race and dash before leading all 30 circuits of main event competition.
“We just needed to get racing a little bit. We changed some stuff around on the car last week and it made it better, then we changed some more stuff around on the car after the dash [at Attica Raceway Park] and that it better, as well,” Dale Blaney said, driver of the Sam McGhee Motorsports/Mike McGhee & Associates/No. 11 sprint car. “I’m starting to feel like my old self again and the car is making me feel like my old self. We’ll head to the next round and try and do this again.”
Although a clean first half for Blaney, getting the opportunity to avoid traffic as a trio of cautions paved the way for clean air on lap two, eight and 11, it was the second 15 laps of the 30-lap program that brought people to their feet.
Traffic, appearing for the first time, officially, on lap 17, eventually slowed Blaney’s pace, and although the National Sprint Car Hall of Famer worked hard to maintain his distance over second place with one or two lap cars separating the two, the gap between the frontrunners eventually tightened. By lap 19, the top five were nearly nose to tail with Blaney still setting the pace, followed closely by Gio Scelzi, Brock Zearfoss, Kyle Larson and Aaron Reutzel. Despite heavy pressure beginning to build, a caution on lap 25 gave Blaney a breather, once again eradicating slower traffic and giving the six-time All Star champion clean air to utilize.
Seemingly in control the final six circuits, it was the final two laps that created a scare for Blaney as Scelzi closed the lead margin in a hurry, nearly capitalizing on a slip by the race leader. Despite the issue, Blaney held on, chased to the final checkers by Scelzi, Kyle Larson, Brock Zearfoss and Cap Henry.
“I’m not sure what happened there at the end. I thought maybe I had a right-rear tire going low,” Dale Blaney said about the last two laps. “I was really glad I saw the white flag because I thought we were in some serious trouble. I knew the guys behind me were close. They are young, hungry kids who want to win races. I was running as hard as I could without killing my stuff.”
Fans will have the opportunity to relive Dale Blaney’s Muskingum County Speedway/Ohio Sprint Speedweek victory this fall on network television, as MAVTV Motorsports Network cameras were on hand Sunday evening to capture all of the action.
The 37th edition of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Indy Metal Finishing will continue Monday evening, June 17, at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville; the first of two Speedweek programs at ‘Orrville’s Historic Oval.’ Tony Stewart’s All Stars will return to Wayne County Speedway on Saturday, June 22, for the $10,000-to-win Speedweek finale.
Speed Shift TV, the official online broadcast partner of the All Star Circuit of Champions in 2019, will be conducting live video broadcasts during the next six Ohio Sprint Speedweek programs: Wayne County Speedway - 6/17, Sharon Speedway - 6/18, Atomic Speedway - 6/19, Mansfield Motor Speedway - 6/20, Limaland Motorsports Park - 6/21, Wayne County Speedway - 6/22.

Hamlin, PA- Hamlin Speedway Delivers Another Great Show With New Winners
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
The premier racing facility in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, the Hamlin Speedway, once again showed how to get things done last evening with an exciting show that covered all of the hard work and dedication the Smith Family has placed into the facility. The tremendous racing season thus far in 2019 and the loyal fan base and talented roster of driving stars who converge at the speedway are appreciative of all of the hard work and determination that goes into preparing an exciting and fun-filled evening of racing. The racing action at the 1/5th mile clay-cushioned facility has been over the top with many outstanding driving personalities carving out their own claim to fame in weekly competition for age groups from 8 to 60 plus. Last night some new winners graced victory lane encouraging all drivers to come out and give Hamlin a good effort.
The 2019 season is just seven weeks old and many special events have been already been completed but the heart of the racing schedule is still coming up in the next few weeks. Heading up the headlines for last evening’s show include Kasey Hudcut, who won the Junior Slingshot event, Dale Kober who captured the All Star Slingshot win in that portion of the evening and Kober bagged a double with a win in the Super Slingshot feature as well. Dennis Stawinsky won the JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless event and unherlalded Tyler LIndsay who won over a healthy field in the JPA Masonry Regular 600 Sprint main event. Tanner VanDohren captured the feature in the division for the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modifieds. Hunter Diehl won the X-Cell Modified event in a wire to wire run
Tyler LIndsay grabbed the lead at the start of the JPA Masonry event and hustled out to a huge lead over Mick D'Agostino. The action that took place behind the pair was stunning to say the least. Every turn and straightaway action was filled with excitement as the track was extremely racy as the drivers were able to race side by side for most of the event. By the time people began to realize Lindsay was the leader of the event, he would already be into the lapped cars of the event. Lindsay would claim the win going away with D'Agostino giving chase in second place. Paul Richards would silently make his way into third place while Dylan Martin and Colin White would round out the top five finishers. "The Big Show" Joey Amantea was a soild sixth and what a drive from "Bad" Chad Sandt as would hustle in from 13th starting position to grab up a seventh place finish on this night. Zach Weisenfluh, Joseph Smith, and Noah Zielinski followng the leaders. Mack Brink was uninjured in a high flying three car jumble in turn one.
In the Super Slinger action, Dale Kober ran away and hid to go on and claim another win at the speedway. Wes Hearn would finish in the runner-up role. Jimmy Conroy would finish third while Allan Kober was fourth and the returning Greg Zellman would finish in fifth place. Paul Ennes, The returning Roger Collins, Mark Exeter, and Gleen and Jermey Hoffman rounded out the finishers.
In the JPA Masonry Rookie 600 event, Dennis "The Menace" Stawinsky began from a front row starting place and that and a big right foot would be all he needed to collect the gold on this evening. Jacob Eby drove falwlessly through the pack to garner the runner-up slot and Tony Parlanti would hang on for third place. Dennis Chamberlain was fourth while Brandon Nicholas was fifth. Richie Maguire headed up the second five with Cody Powell, Carmen "POPS" Leggio Rich Magurie and newcomer Matt Warner filling in the blanks.
The Amantea Real Estate Junior Slingshot event found Kasey Hufcut charging forwards as the green flag fell. Hufcut finally took over the lead at lap-16 after four other leaders durung the event and won a one car length battle over fellow Charlene Benz.. Aiden Elliot Donaldson was third with James Hendricks fourth in a great run for the kid racer and Aiden Donaldson fifth. Doug Smith was sixth and Isabella VanOrden nailing down seventh place. Chase Zimmer came from the back of the pack for eighth place while newcomer Joshua Allen and Conner Mirabelli rounding out the top ten placers.
In the All Star Slingshot encounter, Dale Kober blasted into the lead at the start of the event and held off all of the competition for the win. Taylor Mills, hustled into runner-up honors with Wes Hearn back in third place. Scott Neary hustled hard to fourth place while a new face in 2019, Amber Baccaligni held off most of the competitiors coming her way. Paul Ennes continued his steady work for sixth place, while Austin Silfee, Brian Smith, Joey Kalafut, and Ashley Kober rounding out the top ten.
In the event for the Stage One Modifieds, "TVD" Tanner Van Dohren hustled around Adam Buchel on lap eight to go and win the event. Adam Buchel, Anthony Chrobak, Amanda Buchel, and Joe Price held on for top five finishes while Lawson Szerencits, Jeff Hineline, Michael Samony, Evan Civick, and Mark Evan filled out the field.
The X-Cel Modifieds returned to action at Hamlin and Huner Diehl showed the field the fast way around the clay. He won a close battle over Travis Fichter, Matt Warner, Jarrett Sechrist, and Zane Roth. Trent Warner, Kyle Fallis, Jessica Michael, Brandon Graver, Olivia Schmeltzer and Jeff Sechrist
Pearl Jams:
The track was racy from start to finish and Track Promoter Randy Smith contnued to work on the speedway as necessary for the activity on the speedway was non-stop throughout. Smith had a great track for all of the racing teams.
Amber Basscaligni and Brett Putnam captured the heat wins in the All Star Slingshots last evening. Tony Parlanti and Jack Hanna won the Rookie 600 heats. Junior Slingshot heats went to Conner Mirabelli and RJ Sherman. Wes Hearn was the victor in the Super Slingers. In the Regular 600 Sprints, Mick D'Agostino, and Cody Smith bested their foes and the Stage One Modified heats found Anthony Chrobak and Tanner VanDohren being victorious. Matt Warner and Hunter Diehl captured the heats for the X-Cell Modifieds.

REED WINS THIRD GARDEN STATE CLASSIC AT WALL SATURDAY
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Veteran All American Auto Group Modified stock car driver Steven Reed survived most of the carnage and raced on to victory in the Garden State Classic auto race at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. It was the Jackson speedster's third victory in the 125 lap grind.
Tyler Truex of Little Egg Harbor was the early leader of this 59th edition of the race as Reed lurked in the top pack for most of the early going. Reed pitted earlier than most for new tires and he felt that may have been the winning move. When Truex and a host of others headed to the pit area for a tire change around lap 80 Reed took over the top spot.
The race was a tough one for most competitors as the 26 car field was forced to endure several caution flags for accidents, an oil down which stopped the race when the track crew was faced with a massive clean-up and a hard hit by Willingboro's Trevor Alspach in the fourth turn guardrail. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
For the final laps of the race Reed fought off the attacks of Derek Hopkinson of Toms River who battled side-by-side with Reed for many of the closing laps before finishing second. Holmdel's Andrew Krause was in contention most of the way before finishing third while Truex finished fourth. Howell's Eric Mauriello wrestled through many problems before finishing fifth.
“The pit strategy that we used tonight won the race for us,” Reed said in the winner's circle. “This is our third win in the race. We never pitted in the first one and short pitted in these last two wins.
“Taking this win on Father's Day weekend is pretty big for me. My father has been with me ever since I started racing so this win is for him.”
Like the Modifieds, the O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stocks also saw plenty of action in their 25-lapper before Neptune City's Brian O'Shea raced to his second straight victory. Union's Joey Helberg was second, with Scott Riggleman of Manchester, Nick Kilmer of Howell and Beachwood's Elliott Wohl wrapping up the top five.
Neil Rutt III of Edison raced through the pack and took the win in the 25-lapper for the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks. Brian DeSarno of Wall, Farmingdale's Doug Ashford, Neptune City's Jeffrey Loesch and Alonzo Morales of Mt. Ephraim were second through fifth.
Rob Silver of Howell took the win in the 25-lap Green Flag Driving Experience race after the No. 88 of Sean Verwys, which crossed the finish line first, failed a post-race inspection. Peter Bruno of Little Silver, Brick's Joe McGrath, Kyle Dealaman of Warren and Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach wrapped up the top five.
Auto racing continues at Wall Stadium Speedway this Saturday (June 22) night. The Modified cars will battle in a 40-lapper and the Factory Stocks are set for three 25-lap main events. The Center State Engineering Sportsman cars, the Mike's Performance Center Limited Late Models and the 4 Cylinder Stocks are all set for 25-lap feature races. Grandstand gates open at 5:00 p.m., qualifying begins at 5:45 p.m. and features start at 7:00 p.m.
Wall Stadium is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. The speedway hotline number is 732-681-6400 and email address is ckmotorsports@aol.com.

LATE NIGHT BASH: Sweet wins at Knoxville
Brad Sweet wins second night of World of Outlaws doubleheader weekend at Knoxville Raceway
When the checkered flags waved over a victorious Brad Sweet at Knoxville Raceway Saturday night the time was close to 1 a.m. Central Time, due to Mother Nature’s evening splash of rain.
Exhaustion had no presence on Sweet’s face, though. Sweat and a big grin, yes. Maybe even a hint of relief. But no fatigue. For the Grass Valley, Calif.-native, his fourth win of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season was just another day in the office.
“We live a recluse life out here on the Outlaw tour where you pretty much train yourself to not get out of bed before 10 or 11 (in the morning) because all the work has to be done at night time,” Sweet said. “This is pretty normal for us. Once you get in the seat of the race car, it’s just like any other night.”
While he cruised to the victory in the closing laps of the 25-lap Feature with no pressure from behind, the laps prior forced Sweet to earn the win.
In a rare start at Knoxville Raceway, polesitter Lance Dewease out dueled Sweet for the lead at the start of the Feature and pulled away by three car lengths. The Fayetteville, Pa.-native led the first 13 laps of the Feature – a drastic turn of events after Dewease failed to transfer to Friday night’s Knoxville Feature.
“We made a lot of changes,” said Dewease, who finished sixth. “I really screwed up in time trials (Friday night) and didn’t run the right laps and corners. I knew tonight we were going to make that up, as far as me, personally. And they got the car a lot better from the drop of the green.”
As laps clicked off during the Feature Dewease said he got too loose, and Sweet passed him for the lead with 12 laps to go.
Sweet only led the next two laps, before Logan Schuchart, who also got by Dewease, caught the NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 car.
Continuing to run the bottom of the track, Sweet bounced off the inside berm in turn one, slowing his momentum and allowing the Drydene No. 1s of Schuchart to charge by him on the outside. Sweet wasn’t ready to let Schuchart drive away, though.
The two drivers traded lanes going into turn three; Sweet high, and Schuchart low. Sweet stayed within a car length of Schuchart exiting turn four and threw his car underneath him going back into turn one. His attack didn’t work. Schuchart powered off turn two, maintaining the lead.
Sweet, still resilient, kept Schuchart in sight. In their return to turn three, Schuchart went high and Sweet back low. This time around, the advantage went to Sweet. He found enough grip to get side-by-side with Schuchart down the front stretch and dart by him for the lead in turn one.
Schuchart made one final attempt to pass Sweet exiting turn two, looking to his inside, but Sweet shut the door going into turn three. Schuchart was then left to fend off Daryn Pittman for second-place.
“He made me work for it,” Sweet said about Schuchart. “About all I had there to beat him.”
Once Sweet reclaimed the lead, he maintained it for the final seven laps, riding the bottom of the track – the key to his victory.
“When the track’s fast like that it’s tricky,” said a nearly out of breath Sweet. “Everything happening way faster than you want it to. And you still have to try to hit that narrow bottom. That was the key tonight.
“I figured a few things out in the [Feature] and got the bottom to work. I still missed it about 50 percent of the time, So, we still got to get a little bit better. But I think we were better than most tonight.”
Sweet’s fourth victory of the season now ties him with Schuchart for the most wins this year. The win also helped Sweet extend his points lead over second-place Donny Schatz. The 10-time Series champion finished 15th, creating a 40-point deficit between he and Sweet.
While Schuchart missed out on his fifth win of the season, he still sees his performance as a positive to build off of.
“This [Brad Sweet team] won the Knoxville Nationals last year and we ran them down and passed them,” Schuchart said. “That’s something to be proud of.”
Pittman ended up third, after starting 10th. It was his second podium finish in-a-row at Knoxville – a track he didn’t feel like he was good at.
“Maybe I don’t suck here after all,” said Pittman with a smirk. “My car was really good. It was good last night. We really thought about some things that we needed to be better from last night.”
Sweet’s Knoxville victory is his 38th career Series victory and his eighth top-five finish in-a-row. With tricky track conditions and late nights yet to create any fatigue for Sweet and his Kasey Kahne Racing team, they’re poised to build upon their recent momentum.
“We’ve been on a stretch of good runs, just want to keep it going,” Sweet said.

HOWARD AND VON DOHREN WIN NASCAR MODIFIED FEATURES WHILE GULDIN COLLECTS HIS FIRST CAREER GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY SPORTSMAN FEATURE WIN
TRIPLEHEADER ACTION AT GRANDVIEW ON JUNE 22 FEATURING MODS, SPORTSMAN AND WINGLESS SUPER SPORTSMAN
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. June 16, 2019 In the Saturday night racing action at Grandview Speedway broadcast by RCN-TV, Allentown later in the week, five-time NASCAR track modified point champion Duane Howard started off the show by putting the Norm Hansell-owned Norm’s Save Station No. 357 in victory lane at the conclusion of the 30-lap TP Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified feature postponed by rain on June 1 for his second win of the season.
It appeared Steve Swinehart, winless since May 2004, was going to claim the win in the first feature only to get bottled up behind a lapped car on the 27th lap. Howard capitalized on the opportunity to sneak through the opening on the backstretch to motor into the winner’s circle for his 74th career win. Howard commented they have a good team with good equipment, but they just have to start showing it to get the results of their hard work.
Craig Von Dohren, behind the wheel of the Pioneer Pole Buildings/Keith Harring Transportation No. 1 C, overtook Ray Swinehart for the lead in the second Modified feature from the regular portion on the 20th lap and proceeded to hold off the continuous pressure from runner-up Kevin Hirthler to garner his third win at the oval. Von Dohren felt his car didn’t feel that fast towards the end of the “interesting” race, but he still got the job done.
TP Truck Equipment Sportsman rookie driver Parker Guldin has been experiencing his share of ups and downs with carburetor and other issues in his first year learning stages at the 1/3-mile oval having been in competition in New Jersey last year where he won two features. Finally fellow Craig Whitmoyer, a rookie in the Modified class, stepped in to help and found the problem for the team. Whatever Whitmoyer did, helped as Guldin regained the lead from Sean Weiss on the fifth lap and later held off the constant challenges of Dean Bachman and finally second place finisher Brad Brightbill. Guldin’s crate powered engine earned him an extra $100.
Providing all feature winners met the necessary requirements, they received monetary awards from TP Trailers and a certificate from VP Fuels for product awards. The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award recipients were S. Swinehart, R. Swinehart and Guldin.
Steve Swinehart grabbed the early lead at the onset of the first Modified feature trailed by Justin Grim, Jordan Henn, Ryan Lilick and K. Hirthler.
The only yellow was on the fourth lap caused when Louden Reimert slowed his pace. Swinehart held his position, but by now Henn, Hirthler, Howard and Jeff Strunk were chasing him.
Lap traffic by lap 17 caused the front runners to use heads-up driving, but Swinehart still managed to maintain the lead.
With five laps remaining, Howard and Strunk moved into second and third respectively to put their bids in for the lead.
On the 27th lap a slower car in the high lane in front of Swinehart allowed Howard to scoot by and become the new pacesetter.
Howard never looked back and went on to capture the victory followed by S. Swinehart, who endured a heartbreak at a chance for victory; last week’s feature winner Strunk, Henn, for his best finish and K. Hirthler.
Steve Wilson, another rookie, took the early lead at the drop of the green in the second Modified feature.
Wilson held the lead until Ray Swinehart took over the number one position on the 10th lap.
Behind Swinehart dicing for the remaining positions were Wilson, Hirthler, Grim and Mike Lisowski with the order constantly changing.
Hirthler was challenging his father-in-law for first by the 13th lap with Von Dohren, Doug Manmiller and Grim chasing.
Von Dohren charged into second on the 17th lap to pursue Swinehart and four laps later he was at the head of the pack.
Lap 22 saw Hirthler advance to second and give Von Dohren a run for the money as the side-by-side battle ensured.
Von Dohren succeeded at holding off the competition and chalked up Saturday night win number 108 chased across by Hirthler, Manmiller, Jared Umbenhauer and Howard, the Hard Charger recipient in both features starting 13th and 22nd.
Heats were won by R. Swinehart, Ron Seltmann Jr., S. Swinehart and Wilson. Jordan Henn and Howard won the consies.
Polesitter Sean Weiss led the Sportsman feature until the fifth lap restart created for an incident in the second turn and on the backstretch. On the restart Guldin put the Penny’s Shear Heaven/Oley Feed Mills No. 11 into the lead.
The battle behind Guldin for second through fifth was intense between Dean Bachman, Brad Brightbill, Weiss and Mark Kemmerer, who were just waiting for Guldin to slip-up.
Guldin and Bachman diced for the lead for a while until Brightbill took over second.
Guldin stuck with his “don’t give up” attitude and never faltered to pull into the winner’s circle a very jubilant first time victor followed by Brightbill, Bachman, for his best finish, Weiss and Kemmerer.
Weiss, Guldin and Bachman won the heats.
Here is what is coming next at Grandview. Saturday, June 22nd, Wingless Super Sportsman make their first appearance in a tripleheader that also features the T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds and the T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman plus the qualifying events for all divisions. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing getting the green at 7:30 p.m. Adult admission for this tripleheader card is just $15 for adults while youngsters under 12 are admitted free.
On Sunday, June 23, 1 p.m. Outlaw Enduro and Blast from the Past Vintage racing action is the attraction.

COURTNEY RULES PORT ROYAL EASTERN STORM ROUND
By: Richie Murray - USAC Media
Port Royal, Pennsylvania (June 15, 2019).........For Tyler Courtney, the date of June 15th and the location of Port Royal Speedway means more than just another stop on the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car tour.
For Port Royal was the half-mile dirt oval where his mentor, Bryan Clauson, recorded his record sixth and final "Eastern Storm" win in 2016. Saturday night also marked what would've been Clauson's 30th birthday.
Courtney, the defending series champ, was bound and determined to make his own personal mark to honor BC on this night during round three of the 13th annual "Eastern Storm" series but felt there was a spirit helping him along the way.
"We've kind of struggled all week," Courtney admitted. "But I think we had somebody looking down on us tonight. This one's for him. He's done a lot for my career. He's done a lot for everybody on this team. Even without him being here, he helped us more than he knows."
The emotional victory for Courtney aboard his Clauson-Marshall-Newman Racing/NOS Energy Drink - Competition Suspension, Inc./Spike/Rider Chevy appeared as smooth as silk for 30 laps with barely any threats posed en route to his second series victory of the year. His half-mile record with the series in 2019 now includes wins at Eldora and Port Royal to go along with a 3rd at Terre Haute.
Indianapolis, Indiana's Courtney started from the outside of the front row and was seemingly gone, ripping the top, as Chris Windom attempted to keep pace in second. Courtney's lead stretched out to three-quarters of a straightaway over Windom in the first-third of the race until 2015 Port Royal winner Robert Ballou made contact in turn three, heavily damaging the torsion bar and the left rear wheel, forcing him on the sideline for the remainder of the night.
Courtney had been solid as a rock at Port Royal in his previous two campaigns, finishing 4th in 2017 and 3rd in 2018. But Windom, who lined up second on the ensuing restart, was victorious in both of those instances. Windom's best opportunity to get past was to dive low in one to the inside guardrail to throw the slider on the restart. He did just that when racing resumed on lap 12, but there wasn't enough mustard on the fastball to surge ahead, and instead, tucked in behind Courtney exiting turn two.
Yellows and restarts were the only things tugging on Courtney's cape this night as each time Courtney stood on the throttle, his competition was left in the distant past. The separation from Courtney to Windom was instantly a half-straightaway while Windom found himself a 10-car length lead over the fierce battle for third between Kevin Thomas, Jr., Chase Stockon and new one-lap track record holder, C.J. Leary.
At the midway point, Thomas slid by Stockon on the bottom of turn three. Stockon countered to regain third exiting four. Stockon's grasp on the spot was hanging in the balance and Thomas was able to pick Stockon off by the time they reached turn two on the 16th lap. By turn four of the same lap, Leary had slid by Stockon to take ownership of fourth to begin the second half of the 30-lapper.
Meanwhile, Courtney was cruising with nothing but Warren Alston's double checkers on his mind and vision with six laps remaining. That was until third-running Thomas, who was on the topside of turn three and in the midst of a joust with Leary for third, suffered a blown right rear tire which sent him hard into the outside guardrail with a mighty wallop, elevating all four wheels of his car off the ground before landing back on all fours. The incident ended his night with a disappointing 18th place finish and placed a huge dent in his Eastern Storm title chances where he dropped form 2nd to 8th, and in the National Sprint points in which he fell from 2nd to 5th.
Four lapped cars separated race leader Courtney and second-running Windom on the lap 25 restart, negating any reasonable chance for Windom to toss a slider for the lead heading into turn one. Instead, all Windom could do was stay pat on the topside while the lappers cooperated on the bottom. Once again, any notion of anyone else having a shot at taking down Courtney was all for naught as Courtney opened it up to a lead of three seconds while Leary tried to step up a spot by challenging Windom, to no avail.
Courtney finished off a sterling performance by setting his fastest lap of the race on the 30th and final lap that ultimately resulted in his second career Eastern Storm victory by 3.15 seconds over Windom, Leary, Stockon and Justin Grant.

Courtney's win was the 19th of his USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car career, moving him to within two of 1967 series champion Greg Weld's 21 victories for 28th on the all-time list. (Rich Forman Photo)
Courtney fell the struggle was real in the first two rounds this week with 4th and 6th place runs at Grandview and Bridgeport, respectively. The prevailing feeling was that they needed to return to the basics and remember why they do what they do in the first place, and when winning is part of the equation, the fun never seems to find an end.
"We've been banging our heads against the wall just trying to figure out what we're doing," Courtney explained. "I think we just came to the conclusion that we weren't really having fun. So, we went back to the basics, 'have some fun.' (Port Royal) is a place that suits our style, high speed, and when you get to run it nice and straight up against the wall like that, it's a lot of fun."
