New Egypt Speedway Hosts 162 Competitors For AMA Flat Track Under The Lights
New Egypt, NJ – For only the second time ever, New Egypt Speedway played host to AMA Flat Track Motorcycle racing on Saturday night October 19th for Flat Track Under The Lights.
The first event back on July 21st produced 75 entries on a day where thermometers read 113 degrees, due to the conditions AMA District 6 riders and officials asked New Egypt Speedway if there was a way that a race could be held on a Saturday night under the lights a date was rescheduled and Flat Track Under The Lights was born.
162 competitors registered for competition this past Saturday in classes that ranged from 50cc to 50 years of age on Saturday night for Flat Track Under The Lights featuring competitors from as far as Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New York and New Jersey. A solid spectator count was also in attendance on a chilly October evening. The track surface was also in absolutely impeccable condition as it drew great reviews from the riders all throughout the event.
New Egypt Speedway officials are already discussing dates for the 2020 season with AMA District 6 officials to bring the riders back to the Ocean County D-Shaped oval on more than one occasion.
New Egypt Speedway will finish off its 2019 racing schedule this Saturday night October 26th with the 7th Annual All Star Cup Shootout. The Big Block vs. Small Block Modifieds will do battle for 60 laps paying $6,000 to win and $400 to start. The Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, Open Sportsman and Crate Modifieds will also be in competition Saturday night. Adult admission will be $25, Seniors (65+) will be $23, Teens (12-15) & Military w/ID are $15 while Kids 11 & Under will be free! Pit admission will be $40. Pit gates open at 3pm, Grandstands at 4pm with hot laps firing off at 5pm and racing at 6pm this Saturday!

STORYBOOK CLASSIC: David Gravel wins Jason Johnson Classic
Gravel wins at Lake Ozark Speedway, his 10th win of the year with Jason Johnson Racing
ELDON, MO – Oct. 19, 2019 – Jason Johnson had a black book of goals he’d like to accomplish. One was to promote a race.
On Saturday night at Lake Ozark Speedway it was checked off Johnson's list. His widow, Bobbi Johnson, promoted the Jason Johnson Classic with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
The event started with rain but had a storybook ending.
Like a wave rising in the ocean before crashing down, the sea of people filling the grandstands simultaneously rose to their feet and applauded as David Gravel piloted the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 car to Victory Lane.
Family, friends and team members – all with smiles and some with tears – flooded Victory Lane to congratulate Gravel and Johnson on the victory – reminiscent of Gravel’s Knoxville Nationals win in August.
“Just couldn’t have been a better night,” said a jubilated Gravel. “We’ve had two weeks this year that are storybook weeks. To get this done and win tonight… it might look like it’s fixed, but it isn’t. Sheldon (Haudenschild) made me work for that race.”
The Watertown, Conn. driver was fast all night, winning his Drydene Heat race – holding off a hard charging Haudenschild to do so – and finishing fourth in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash – won by Jason Sides, who also held off Haudenschild for the win.
When the 41-lap Feature when green Sides rocketed ahead of the field and threw his King Racing Products No. 7S car to the high side. He committed to the line in his pursuit for the win. If someone was going to pass him the bottom was their only option.
Haudenschild followed in line with Sides, riding the high side, trying to hunt him down. Behind them, Gravel worked his way by Brian Brown for third on Lap two and reeled in the top two every lap.
Sides got loose off turn two on Lap seven, allowing Haudenschild to close to his tail tank and Gravel to charge toward them both.
When the trio reached turn three Gravel slung his Mesilla Valley Transportation No. 41 car to the bottom of the track, sliding by Haudenschild and Sides for the lead. Gravel powered in front of them off turn four to officially take the lead on Lap eight, while Haudenschild also snuck by Sides to take second.
The battle was now Gravel versus Haudenschild. Both favored the cushion around the 1/3-mile speedway. Haudenschild’s NOS Energy Drink No. 17 was utilizing it better, though. He caught Gravel on Lap 14 and dove underneath him in turn three to steal the lead away from him.
Haudenschild led the next 11 laps, with Gravel keeping pressure from behind, before a caution spoiled the Wooster, Ohio driver’s night.
On the restart with 17 laps to go Haudenschild slid over the cushion in turn two and Gravel pounced. He charged underneath Haudenschild down the backstretch and sailed his car into turn three, gapping Haudenschild by two car lengths.
“Being on the outside I kind of pinched him (Haudenschild) a little bit,” Gravel said. “You’ve got to do those things to win races. I think I just had a little bit of an advantage on him on the double-file restart and was able to get the lead.”
Haudenschild kept Gravel in sight for the rest of the race but wasn’t able to put together another strong enough run to catch him.
“I would have liked to have raced in traffic a little bit more,” Haudenschild said. “I think it mixes it up and made a little bit more possibilities. When we were in clean air we were just ripping around there and waiting until we got traffic to get anything.”
Logan Schuchart had his own exciting race, charging from 11th to third – his second podium finish in-a-row.
“There in the beginning it was pretty interesting, we were battling back there with Brad (Sweet) and Donny (Schatz). That’s something you don’t want to get in between,” Schuchart said. “It was a good race. We were able to get up there on some restarts, pass some cars when we needed to.”
Sweet and Schatz – who are first and second, respectively, in the championship points – battled around each other most of the night. Sweet had the better night, racing from 12th to fourth, while Schatz raced from 14th to eighth. Sweet is now 32 points ahead of Schatz with only four races left this season – only two before the World Finals.
Gravel’s win was his 10th of the year – first at Lake Ozark Speedway – and 49th career World of Outlaws win.
With Gravel and Schatz having 10 wins and Sweet having 16, it’s the first time since 2000 that there are at least three drivers with 10 or more wins in the Series.
“To hit double digits this year is great,” Gravel said about his win total. “It’s a hard feat to do on the World of Outlaws tour. For us to do that, it feels awesome.
“This is for Jason’s family. Put a smile on their faces tonight and hopefully for the whole week coming up."
Bobbi Johnson called Gravel and the JJR team a “dream team” with how well they have meshed this year and the success they’ve had. Their victory helped put a period on the storybook ending for the inaugural Jason Johnson Classic – a big goal checked off Jason’s list.
“Tomorrow when you sit back and realize and think about all of the man hours and all of the time and all of the help and preparation, there’s a whole team that put on this deal and stood behind me,” Johnson said. “Just to feel like I checked off one of Jason’s things he always wanted to do… he had a black book and there’s a couple of things in there that’s not checked off, so that’s what I’m trying to do next.”

J-MAC MASTERS HAUBSTADT'S HARVEST CUP

Haubstadt, Indiana (October 19, 2019).........As friends and former roommates, Jason McDougal and Kevin Thomas, Jr. have a bond that extends further than the racetrack. On the racetrack, though, each are routinely tough customers regularly waging battle against one another, giving no quarter in pursuit of triumph.
Yet even friends have their battles every now and again. Especially when you're among that special breed of individual who climbs behind the wheel of a racecar and is driven to succeed at the highest level.
Nowhere was that more evident than Saturday night's Harvest Cup at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. where the series made its return following a seven-year absence. The stage allowed the two to slug it out for a majority of the 30-lap main event, exchanging the lead seemingly every single lap on both ends of the track, delivering slider after slider until the final bell tolled.
The baton for the lead was passed between Logan Seavey, Thomas, McDougal and Thomas Meseraull officially speaking, six times at the line (26 times unofficially) until McDougal emerged with the lead for good 10 laps from the finish to score his second career series win and the second of the 2019 season.
"Midget racing is a blast here. I don't know why we don't come here more," McDougal exclaimed. "Racing with KTJ like that, you've got to be able to trust someone you know you can go back and forth with."
The feast of sliders began right from the initial green when reigning series champ Logan Seavey bolted to the lead from the pole position into turn one. Fourth-starting Thomas made his initial bid for the lead in turn three on the opening lap before Seavey cut back under off the fourth turn to lead the opening lap.
Meanwhile, back in the pack, Tucker Klaasmeyer endured a Tommy Tipover in turn four that brought out the night's only red flag. Klaasmeyer restarted after changing a flat left rear tire and made an impressive charge from 22nd to a 7th place finish at the checkered.
Following the restart, Seavey commanded the lead up front while Thomas and the emerging McDougal, who started 5th, began swapping the runner-up spot by lap five when McDougal moved into the spot. Two laps later, McDougal steered it deep into turn three, sliding past Seavey on the bottom and riding up over the cushion. That allowed Seavey to drive back by under McDougal while Thomas got past McDougal then took over the spot from Seavey on the eighth lap.
McDougal raced back to 2nd on lap nine, then turned up the wick on Thomas with a run off turn 4 under Thomas that moved him back to the lead by a half-car length on the 10th lap, but only momentarily, as Thomas powered back to the lead with a pair of crossovers of McDougal in turns one and three to sustain his grasp of the top spot.
Back and forth, the two attacked the quarter-mile dirt oval throughout the middle portion of the feature with McDougal repetitively diving to the bottom in turn three to nab the lead, but each time, Thomas answered by driving underneath McDougal exiting four and leading into turn one.
McDougal brought the hammer into the first turn each time, arching his car above the cushion before driving straight as an arrow down off the turn two banking with a run to the inside of Thomas in turn four. A lap 17 caution for Fatheadz Eyewear Fast Qualifier and 8th running Gio Scelzi, who slowed to a stop in turn one, put a brief hiatus to the chaos ensuing at the head of the pack.
On the restart with 13 to go, a new contender emerged in 12th starting Thomas Meseraull, himself a 3rd place finisher in the 2011 Hut 100 at Tri-State. Meseraull was in position to capitalize when Thomas slid by McDougal in turn two. McDougal and Thomas made slight bumper to bumper contact, both chocked it up, and Meseraull drove underneath both down the back straightaway and into the lead.
Meseraull withstood McDougal's relentless pursuit over the next few laps, countering each turn three slider delivered to him on laps 18-19-20 to retain the lead at the stripe. On the 21st lap, McDougal went into action with a slider under Meseraull in turn one. This time, Meseraull launched off turn two and entered turn three side-by-side under McDougal. The two aimed to occupy the same piece of ground at the same moment at the top of turn four with Meseraull's right front tire and McDougal's left rear meeting face-to-face, sending Meseraull backwards into the outside wall, thus ending his bid for victory, although he did return to finish 8th after restarting from the tail.

"T-Mez was a little upset with me for how I drove around him in three and four, but I didn't see anything wrong with it. He hit my left rear," McDougal said.
On the lap 21 restart, McDougal was gone, opening up a full-straightaway lead over Thomas and, for all intents and purposes, putting this one on ice as he ran his preferred line in the middle. With a clear track in his sight, McDougal set the fastest lap of the race on the 24th circuit and all was right in his world.
"Entering one is a little tricky, had a little hole getting into it, but once I got to racing with KTJ, every time he slid me, he pulled away and never got to the cushion. So, I pulled down the last few restarts and was actually better right through the middle."
However, a caution on lap 25 involving Karsyn Elledge and Jerry Coons, Jr. erased McDougal's advantage and put him in the position of having to deliver the same restart performance once again and avoid a potential race-changing slider from Thomas and now 3rd running Kyle Cummins who, earlier in the night, wrapped up his undefeated Tri-State season with his 8th sprint car win in as many appearances at the track in 2019.
The next try saw McDougal escape with an eight car length lead on the restart, but only briefly as Elledge spun to a stop on the bottom of turn four on the 26th lap, forcing yet another restart and putting him in a slightly precarious position, but he knew his FMR Racing/Panther Graphics South - TRD - Mobil 1 - FK Rod Ends/Beast/Speedway Toyota was working solidly, giving him the utmost confidence to finish the job.
"(Crew chief) Bob (East) always gives me a good car," McDougal complimented. "It's usually a little tight at the beginning, but we're always pretty hot the last 10-15 laps. I got a little nervous with the yellows we had going there. You always get nervous when you get three yellows like that. You don't want to restart the same like that, but obviously it was working. I switched up the entry on the restart a little bit, but other than that, I felt like I was pretty good."
The final, final restart was just as peachy for McDougal as he pulled away once, twice and third and for all, pulling out to a half-straight advantage on initial lap following the restart and securing the victory by a 2.752 second margin over Thomas, Cummins, point leader Tyler Courtney and Justin Grant.
Of note, Tanner Thorson's time of 2:59.89 set during the night's semi-feature, established a new 12-lap USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget track record at Tri-State, eclipsing the mark set by Jerry Weeks 40 years earlier, in 1979, by nearly 17 seconds.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA (October 19, 2019) – The 30th Anniversary season of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series finished in fine fashion on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway, with a Triple Thunder Thriller of racing action. Jeff Strunk won the 22nd Annual Modified TRAFFIC JAM in commanding style as Brian Hirthler claimed the Sportsman victory, and Kevin Nagy won the MASS Sprint Car Series 25 lap feature. A super fast racing surface saw track records being established throughout the night. Three of the four ten lap modified heat races inked new track records.
Strunk’s victory in the 22nd Annual Traffic Jam Big-Block vs. Small-Block Modified challenge was his third NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series win of the season.
“We had some great racing tonight,” Strunk said in Grandview Speedway victory lane. “The starting spot helps, and we had a close scare almost getting in an accident – you have to be quick on your toes.”
Strunk started 6th on the twenty-four car field and moved passed Brian Hirthler in lapped traffic on the sixth circuit.
Hirthler chased Strunk for the lead for the first half of the event before Duane Howard moved in the second position. Howard, Grandview’s Modified track champion’s chase for the lead didn’t last long breaking just past the halfway point.
Twentieth-place starter, Mike Gular, charged into the second spot in the closing stages of the event, battling back-and-forth swapping the runner-up spot with Brian Hirthler.
Strunk walked away with the 40-lap win – his 16th Thunder on the Hill win, Gular finished in the second spot, Brian Hirthler finished in third, Richie Pratt Jr. finished in fourth, and Rick Laubach finished in fifth.
Brian Hirthler hopped out of his third-place Modified finishing No. 4* machine and jumped right into his Sportsman car, where he started on the pole of the 25-lap feature event.
Hirthler held off a hard charge from second-place starter Jared Umbenhauer, with duo battling in and out of lapped traffic.
Hirthler dominated to pick up the win, Umbenhauer settled for second-place, Ryan Lilick finished in third, Mike Mammana finished in fourth and Brad Brightbill completed the top five.
Kevin Nagy led flag to flag in the MASS Sprint Car Series feature event, despite a mid-race challenge from second-place starter Eddie Wagner. A single red flag flew just passed the mid-way point, and Nagy checked out on the restart.
Nagy picked up the Mid Atlantic Sprint Car Series win, Tim Tanner rallied from an 11th place starting position to finish second, Eddie Wagner finished in third, Larry McVay finished in fourth, and Jon Haegele finished in the fifth position.
The Halloween Party offered fun for all including a Halloween Parade for the children. Plenty of treats were offered to all and some special prizes.

KRAUSE WINS WALL STADIUM SPOOKY MODIFIED 75 LAPPER
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ After fighting through tough fortunes during the 2019 regular season Andrew Krause fought off the competition to win the 75 lap All American Auto Group Modified stock car feature race Saturday afternoon at Wall Stadium Speedway. The victory in the “Spooky Spectacular” racing program's main event was Krause's first of the 2019 campaign.
Adam LaCicero of Lavallette was the first leader of the event before Brick's Eric Mauriello took command on lap 10 with an outside lane pass. Krause, who had lined up sixth at the outset, also took the high road two laps later to race into second spot and chase Mauriello. The duo then wrestled, often times in side-by-side fashion, towards the halfway point of the test before Krause drove to the high side of a sliding Mauriello to take the lead near lap 25. The duo then continued their fight past the halfway mark as Derek Hopkinson of Toms River ran a tight third.
Just past the halfway point officials asked Mauriello to go to the rear of the pack because they felt that Mauriello had been warned about jumping on restarts too many times. This gave Hopkinson the chance to go after Krause and he took the lead with just over 25 laps remaining. Krause and Hopkinson then battled side-by-side after a lap 66 caution before Krause slipped back into the lead and raced on to the win in the 75 lap test. Hopkinson, Eddie McCarthy of Pt. Pleasant, who was in contention most of the way, Mauriello and Chris Andretta of Neptune wrapped up the top five.
“That was a real workout,” Krause said after the win. “I really have to thank my family and the crew for all the support they give me and the race team. Thanks to all of them we always come to the track with a car that is capable of winning.”
Bryan O'Shea of Neptune City continued his break through season with his sixth win of the campaign in the 50-lapper for the O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stocks. Newly crowned champion Elliot Wohl of Beachwood was the runner-up, while invader Rob McCormick, early leader Scott Riggleman of Manchester and Brick's Kevin Flores wrapped up the top five.
Newly crowned Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stock champ Neil Rutt III of Edison topped the 25-lap main event in convincing fashion over Brick's Ronnie Mullen, Jeffrey Loesch of Neptune City, Hazlet's Sal Liguori and Todd Dige.
Young racer Mason Magee of Charlestown, Md. grabbed his third win of the season in the 25-lapper for the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars. Jim Sylvester, Quinn Trimmer, Mike Benton and Art Marrero were second through fifth.
The season-ending “Turkey Derby” is next on the schedule on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. More information on the event is available at wallspeedwayracing.com.
