THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES
NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES TO OPEN TUESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 11. . . . . . .

USAC DRIVERS BALLOU, CHAPPLE, BUCKWALTER & BIASI PART OF LOW, DOWN & DIRTY PRE-RACE ACTIVITIES AT GRANDVIEW USAC EASTERN STORM OPENER

BECHTELSVILLE, PA JUNE 4, 2019 . . . . . . . The 13th Annual USAC Eastern Storm will bring the best in the business of non-wing sprint car racing to Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, June 11 when the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series kicks off its 30th anniversary season. The AMSOIL USAC sprints will bring a field of talent to the “hill” in chase of the $10,000 to win 40 lap Jesse Hockett Classic. Also on the card will be the NASCAR Modifieds chasing a $3,000 payday for the win in their 30 lap feature. The USAC Sprints will open the show with time trials and a series of qualifying events followed by the Modifieds that will take part in qualifying heats and a consolation. Gates open at 5 PM with qualifying getting underway at 7:30 PM.

Advance tickets may be ordered for the Tuesday, June 11 USAC Sprints & Modified show by calling 443 513 4456. Please speak slowly and clearly when leaving a message and be sure to provide your name and number of tickets you will need. Tickets may be paid for and picked up at the WILL CALL Window on race night after 3:30 PM. Advance ticket holders may entitle you to enter the grandstands at 4:30. Adult admission tickets are $30, children 6 to 11 $10 and children five and under will be admitted for free.

Be sure to come out early and be part of the Low, Down & Dirty pre-race activities taking place at the main gate at Grandview Speedway from 5 PM to 6 PM. You’ll have a chance to meet and greet USAC drivers Robert “The Madman” Ballou, Issac Chapple, Timmy Buckwalter and Joey Biasi. The crew of Low, Down & Dirty always ask drivers “the right questions”, far different then the normal interview. You’ll get a great feel for who these drivers really are.

Robert Ballou of Rocklin, CA has never won a Thunder Show at Grandview and he would like to make his first win that $10,000 payday on Tuesday night, June 11. Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, OK was the winner of the last two USAC events at Grandview and he is on a mission to make it three wins-in-row. Other drivers in chase of the biggest prize of the 13th Annual Eastern Storm include Chad Boespflug, Hanford, CA, Timmy Buckwalter, Douglassville, PA, Issac Chapple, Willow Branch, IN, “Sunshine” Tyler Courtney, Indianapolis, IN, “The Peoples Champ” and sixty-time USAC sprint winner Dave Darland, Lincoln, IN, Justin Grant, Ione, CA, C.J. Leary, Greenfield, IN, Jason McDougal, Broken Arrow, Ok, Carson Short, Marion, IL, Chase Stockon, Fort Branch, IN, Kevin Thomas, Jr “KTJ”, Cullman, AL and Chris Windom, Canton, IL just to name a few.

The AMSOIL USAC non-wing sprints come east just once a year and this show at Grandview Speedway is a must see event. These guys make even the time trials exciting, as they bicycle, pull wheelies and send roaster-tails flying high in sky, and that’s with just one car at a time on the race track. The heat races earn the drivers their ticket to start the 40 lap $10,000 to win Jesse Hockett Classic. When the green flag drops in the feature, you won’t know where to watch as the field of twenty-two cars race three abreast, pull off slide jobs, take part in some wheel banging and yes, run countless laps with their rear bumpers inches from the outside boiler-plate. You’ll see all this on the one-third mile high-banked Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, June 11.

Ryan Godown Wins “Salute to Our Veterans 40” at New Egypt Speedway

New Egypt, NJ (June 1, 2019):Four-time Modified champ Ryan Godown of Ringoes, NJ captured his third Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event of the season Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway in the annual tribute to the Military 40 lap event. Godown took the lead from Blaine Bracelin on lap 12 and powered away over the remaining 28 laps to record his 49th career NES victory.

“Tonight is about the folks in the Military, we just try to put a show on for the fans”, stated Godown in victory lane, “With an excellent track as fast as it was tonight, it is difficult to come thru the field as everyone is fast.”

Blaine Bracelin & John Pakenham brought the 25-car field to the start with Bracelin taking command after a short battle. JR Fulper was moving up quickly and made his presence known as 8th starting Godown and Ryan Krachun battled hard as they advanced thru the field. Godown was on a mission and he wrestled the lead away on lap 12 as Mike Butler surged into the top five. One lap later Bracelin’s great run ended as he retired from the event. Godown pulled away as an excellent battle for second began between Krachun, Butler, Fulper, & PJ Oliver. Krachun’s hopes to catch Godown ended as his motor expired and the restart saw Oliver take up the chase. Danny Bouc and Billy Pauch Jr. now appeared in the top five and joined into the torrid battle for second as Godown powered away again. The final caution appeared when Pauch Jr. developed a flat tire with 4 laps remaining, however no one had anything for the powerful Godown who cruised to the victory. PJ Oliver broke thru for his best finish of the season taking home a popular second. Mike Butler continued his solid season with another excellent performance finishing third, Danny Bouc rebounded from an early race pit stop to finish 4th and JR Fulper posted a top five by finishing fifth.

The Larry’s Hot Rods and Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars 20 lap event was captured by first time winner Larry Drake. Drake held off a persistent Jermain Godshall over most of the race for his first career win. Stan Ploski continues to show his legendary form since coming out of retirement as he crossed the line third.Point leader Rich Mellor and Duane Nixon rounded out the top five.

Johnny Bangs picked up his second career victory in the Crate Modified 20 lap feature event. Bangs battled with race long leader Bobby Holzwarth and a hard charging Joe Toth with these drivers going three wide for the lead several times on the final two circuits. Bangs was able to get under second year racer Holzwarth on the final turn for the win. Holzwarth crossed the line second posting his career best finish despite being denied his first ever victory. Toth settled for third after he ran the leaders down with three laps remaining, 2018 rookie champ Ryan Heim & 3-time Crate Modified champion Eric Palmer completed the top five at the finish.

The Lyons Construction/MetalFab Rookie feature saw a fifth different winner this season as Vinnie Troia took top honors for the first time. Troia held off a fast DJ Hunt and Nick Van Wickle for his first win.

The Mike’s Performance 4-Cylinders saw TJ Graves win for the second time this season. Graves took the lead from Dom Antonelli after the halfway mark of the 15 lap event and won for the first time since opening night. Point leader Mike Fox made a late race charge into second while Antonelli held on for third. Justin Dunn and Jim Avery finished fourth and fifth.

O'SHEA FACTORY STOCK WINNER AT WALL SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Bryan O'Shea of Neptune City raced through the field to win the 25-lap Factory Stock car main event at Wall Stadium Speedway. O'Shea's second career victory came in front of a large “Pack the Track” night crowd Saturday.

Nick Kilmer of Howell was the early leader of the O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stock race as Tom Rajkowski of Fords stayed right on his bumper. Meanwhile, O'Shea was coming from a mid-pack starting spot in the 23 car field and arrived in third by lap eight. The top three then raced in tight formation for the next eight laps before both Rajkowski and O'Shea used the inside lane to take over the top two spots.

The leading duo then wrestled for three laps before O'Shea took over the lead and then raced on to the win. Rajkowski was second at the stripe with Beachwood's Elliott Wohl, Kilmer and Scott Riggleman of Manchester completing the top five.

“The car was on rails tonight,” O'Shea said after the contest. “We only had one caution in the race and that came early. The way my car was running that helped us a lot.”

Ronnie Mullen of Brick hitched a ride for the first of two 25-lap races for the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stock and raced from the rear of the field to take the win. Neil Rutt III of Edison finished second after fighting the leader with Alonzo Morales of Mt. Ephraim, early leader Ryan Maher of Neptune and Mike Lavery of Orangeburg, N.Y. completing the top five.

Jeffrey Loesch of Neptune City raced into the lead with a daring move on the first lap and then held off runner-up Rutt to win the second 25-lap race. Morales, Brick's Randy Hart and Darianne McLaren of Edison were third through fifth.

Kyle Scisco of Jackson raced to his third win of the campaign in the 25-lapper for the Center State Engineering Sportsman cars. Jarret DiGiantomasso of Jackson, Louie Keraitis of Toms River, Micheal Rising of Little Egg Harbor and Brick's Robert Sutphin wrapped up the top five.

The Mike's Performance Center Limited late Models raced in two 25-lappers, the first rain postponed from May 11. Defending class champion Shannon Mongeau of Jackson swept both races. Chris Silvestri of Hazlet, Bayville's Mike Tillett, Jackson's Greg Gastelu and Jim Moorman of Brooklawn were second through fifth in the rain postponed test. Mongeau beat Tillett, Silvestri and Moorman to the line in the regularly scheduled race.

Chris Minton of Kunkelstown, Pa. Won the Demo Derby while Eric Zweibek was second and Norman Lane was third.

The stock cars have Saturday night (June 8) off as the Formula Drift Tour makes its annual stop at the speedway for Friday and Saturday action. The All American Auto Group Modified cars then return on June 15 for the for the annual running of the Garden State Classic.

Wall Stadium is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. The speedway hotline number is 732-681-6400 and email address is ckmotorsports@aol.com.

SHOW STOPPER: Stewart wins big in Nashville

Shane Stewart beats Brent Marks for Music City Outlaw Nationals win in thrilling show

Among the music halls and concert venues of Nashville, there was no bigger stage than the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series’ Music City Outlaw Nationals at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway Saturday night.

Thousands of buoyant fans filled the grandstand. Spotlights gleamed off the brown clay quarter-mile oval surface. The prize, a guitar shaped trophy, $25,000 in winnings and the pride of making history; becoming an inaugural Music City Outlaw Nationals champion.

That kind of stage can birth a star. Rejuvenate a career.

Coming up on almost a year since winning a race, that’s exactly what Shane Stewart needed.

His winning performance Saturday night showed it. In spectacular fashion, the Oklahoma-native claimed his first win of the season with his new CJB Motorsports team and his 34th career World of Outlaws win.

“Big stage, big win for this team,” Stewart said.

With one win during the 2018 season, Stewart was released from his ride with Kyle Larson Racing at the end of the year. At the same time CJB Motorsports parted ways with its then driver, David Gravel – a pairing that never finished worse than third in points together.

The two paired together for the 2019 season, starting the season off strong in Volusia by leading laps and finishing second in the opening race. From there on out, races of disappointment and wins that could have been.

It was a scenario Stewart almost had to cope with again.

With a pinch of luck, Stewart’s team drew an early Qualifying order position, leading to the No. 5 car being second fastest to Brad Sweet’s track record breaking 14.083 sec. time. Stewart then went on to win his Drydene Heat race and finish second in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash – putting him on the outside pole for the 30-lap Feature.

Throwing his car around the tight turns of the quarter-mile track, Stewart took the lead on the first lap of the Feature and put distance between he and second-place lap after lap. His early run was cut short by Daryn Pittman spinning and bringing out the caution on Lap two.

On the restart, Stewart set sail again. Behind him, though, lurked another driver just as eager to return to Victory Lane.

In the early stage of year, Brent Marks missed two Features and didn’t find the top-10 until the tenth race of the 2019 season. The Myerstown, Pa.-native earned his first top-five during the first round of the Music City Outlaw Nationals Friday night and was poised to do better on night two.

Marks methodically charged his way from fourth to second by Lap five. Two laps later, he found himself to the outside of Stewart down the front stretch. The two went side-by-side into turn one. Marks high. Stewart low.

Stewart slid up the track in turn two, allowing Marks to dart underneath him exiting the corner. But before he could complete the pass, a caution came out for several cars tangled in turn four.

Marks showed his hand. Stewart now knew there was no cruising to a win. The battle was on.

When the race went back green, Stewart stuck to the high side, while Marks ran low. The red No. 19 car showed its nose to Stewart turn after turn. Until Lap 11.

Marks finally found enough traction on the bottom of turns three and four to pull past Stewart for the lead. He cleared the No. 5 car the next corner, but Stewart wasn’t ready to watch another potential win slip away. He launched his car around the outside of Marks through turns three and four and charged back to the lead.

Marks then returned the move by throwing his car to the bottom of turn one and sliding up in front of Stewart in the center of the turn. Stewart cut underneath Marks, but couldn’t find enough traction to challenge Marks again for the position.

Marks was on his way to a historic win.

Lap traffic soon became an obstacle, though. Stewart kept Marks in his crosshairs, giving the Pennsylvanian no room for error while the track slicked up each lap.

With nine laps to go, Marks misjudged his drive into turn one around the outside of a lapped car and hit the cushion. His error allowed Stewart to dart past him and reclaim the lead, again.

The win wasn’t his, yet. Marks stayed close behind and with three laps to go Sweet made it a three-horse race for the win, challenging Marks for second. And even though Stewart reclaimed the lead, he knew it was going to be a battle to keep it.

“I don’t think I had the best car, but I knew once we got in to lap traffic, I had to be patient,” Stewart said. “I knew the bottom was going to be key.”

Stewart cautiously slid his car to the bottom of the track each turn and eased back on the throttle off of it, leaving no opening for Marks to make a run. He did that with fine-tuned precision, leading to a standing ovation by the crowd as he soared past the checkered flag.

“It’s special,” Stewart said about the win. “Being the inaugural race here at Nashville. So many people here that came out to support the World of Outlaws, which is really cool to see. Just a big win. I don’t know where it ranks, but it’s up there for sure.”

For Marks, he was left meandering by his car, contemplating what could have been. But he still had fun.

“It actually was a lot of fun,” Marks said. “I thought the track was in real good shape there for the Feature and made it racy for us. Sort of took a little bit of rubber there toward the end. It wasn’t like lock down rubber, so when you’re following lap cars around and keep hearing people behind you because obviously everybody is so close, you’ve got to try to outsmart them.

“Another good thing to do is put a lap car between them. That’s what I tried to do and just caught the wall the wrong way.”

Sweet, who finished third said he hopes to continue to build momentum with his team. He cut a small chuck out of Donny Schatz’s points lead, now sitting 48 points behind the reigning champion in second.

Stewart’s win also puts him into Nashville’s history books. He became the second World of Outlaws driver to win on the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway dirt track, constructed on the speedway’s quarter-mile asphalt track with about seven million pounds of dirt put on it. Schatz claimed the first night of the Music City Outlaw Nationals Friday night.

There was no bigger stage this weekend than the Music City Outlaw Nationals doubleheader. It birthed a new star of an event that left several fans asking when the Series will return to Nashville. And it rejuvenated Stewart’s season with a guitar shaped trophy and $25,000 pay day. More importantly, just a win. Exactly what he needed.
