BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 17, 2019 . . . The biggest stock car racing event of the season at Grandview Speedway, the 49th Annual Freedom 76, is set for Saturday, September 21st. More than $25,000 is being offered to the winner of what has become the “Granddaddy” of area Modified stock car racing classics. The action gets the green at 7 p.m. A September 28th rain date is in place.
Duane Howard, the new track Modified champion and defending champion of this event, is being touted as a favorite to win. He is a five time winner of the Classic. Other past winners expected to be entered include Craig Von Dohren, the all-time leading feature winner at the Bechtelsville clay oval. And there will be Jeff Strunk, a seven time winner, Brett Kressley, past winner Ray Swinehart, along with three time winner Meme DeSantis, Mike Gular, Doug Manmiller, and quite possibly six time winner Billy Pauch Sr. and Jr. along with NASCAR Truck Series standout Stewart Friesen.
Of course the 49th version of the Freedom 76 will also attract many of the top names in the sport as visiting talents along with a large field of Grandview regulars. You just never know who might show up to try for the $25,000 plus winner’s money.
And on Friday, September 20th the Mid Atlantic Sprint Series along with the Sportsman racers will be in action in the doubleheader Freedom 38. Modifieds entered in the Freedom 76 will be permitted some practice laps as part of the Friday night racing action. Heading up the popular sprint car racing action will be such talents as Tim Tanner Jr., Jon Haegele, Jeff Geiges, Ryan Stillwagon, and a long list of others.
Bobby Gunther Walsh and his sponsors have added some excitement by posting $500 for the Hard Charger in the 76 lap race that will this year have no mandatory fuel stop.
Top performers during the Saturday night qualifying will take part in a Cash Dash paying $1,000 to win.
Adult admission for the Freedom 76 is $40 but advance tickets are available up to and including September 20th and they are priced at $35. Youngsters 6 thru 11 pay $10 and kids under 6 are admitted free.
Advance ticket holders are admitted at 3 p.m. while the general admission gates will be open at 3:30 p.m.
Between 3:35 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Duane Howard and Brad Brightbill will be meeting fans and signing autographs at the SDS Photo booth.
There is no license required for the Friday and Saturday stock car racing events.
Admission for the Friday, September 20th, Sprint and Sportsman doubleheader, is $12 for adults, $5 for youngsters 6 thru 11 and under 6 are admitted free. Pit admission is $35. Racing gets the green at 7:30 p.m.
The Freedom 76 has a September 28 rain date while the Friday night event offers no rain date.

Those with campers on the speedway grounds are reminded that the campers must be removed the day following the Freedom 76.
Final point standings show Duane Howard and Brad Brightbill as the official 2019 NASCAR champions.
Duane Howard tallied 5153 points on his way to a sixth T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified championship. Finishing second, in a late season charge, was Brett Kressley with 4773 counters. Ten time champion Craig Von Dohren finished third with 4675 points followed by Doug Manmiller with 4385 and Rick Laubach at 4174. The Modifieds raced n 20 point events with 61 racers earning points.
Brad Brightbill earned his first title in the T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman division getting 4172 points. Second spot was taken by past champion Brian Hirthler with 3796 points. Third spot went to Brad Grim who had tallied 3670 points. Fourth went to Brad Arnold with 3551 followed by fifth place finisher Kyle Lilick with 3541 counters. Sportsman raced in 20 races during the season with 55 racers earning points.

DEMO DERBY, 5 RACES AND DISCOUNT ADMISSION ON “PACK THE TRACK NIGHT” AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY (SEPT. 21)
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Auto racing fans have a big event on tap this Saturday night (Sept. 21) at Wall Stadium Speedway with Demolition Derby action and five racing main events during “Pack the Track Night” festivities. A special discounted admission price of just $10 for adults and $5 for students aged 6 to 16 will be offered. Kids 5 and under and parking are always free. Spectator seating will open at 5:00 p.m., with qualifying slated for 5:45 p.m. Main event action will follow at around 7:00 p.m. This “Carnival Night” themed event will feature free games for children on the midway area.
On the high banked third mile paved oval five feature races will be presented with the O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stocks battling in twin 25-lap feature races, while Center State Engineering Sportsman cars and the Mike's Performance Center Limited Late Models compete in 25-lap main events. In addition, the touring ATQMRA Three-Quarter Midgets will race in a 25-lap feature on the fifth mile inner oval.
Top racers in the twin Factory Stock races will include defending champion Mike Montano of Freeport, N.Y. former champ Scott Riggleman of Manchester and Beachwood's Elliot Wohl, the current point leader in the race for the 2019 driving title.
Once the races are complete, the action will turn destructive when Demolition Derby action is presented.
The grandstand midway will be festive during the “Carnival Night” event as plenty of games of chance for youngsters will be offered with prizes going to the winners.
Saturday’s schedule will see the competitor pit area open at 1:00 p.m. Regular practice will start at 3:00 p.m., while spectator seating will open at 5:00 p.m. Qualifying will then begin at 5:45 p.m. and feature race action for all divisions is slated for 7:00 p.m.
The Wall Stadium Speedway regular season schedule will continue every Saturday night through October 5. Special daytime racing events are set for October 19 and Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.

NASCAR champ Mike Stefanik, 61, dies in plane crash near Rhode Island.
NASCAR champion Michael Stefanik died Sunday in a single-engine plane crash near the Rhode Island state line, police said. He was 61.
Stefanik took off in a single-engine, single-seat Aerolite 103 from the Riconn Airport in Coventry, R.I., and was turning back to the airfield when it crashed in a wooded area near the airport, Connecticut state police said.
NASCAR confirmed Stefanik was killed in the crash.
“Mike Stefanik was one of the most successful drivers in NASCAR history, but even more so, he was a true representative of our sport,” NASCAR Chairman and CEO Jim France said in a statement. “His tough, competitive nature and excellence on the race track won him the admiration of fans and competitors alike.”
Stefanik was popular in the NASCAR circles, being named the Busch North Series Most Popular Driver in 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2004. He won the Busch North Series in 1997 and 1998.
He made a name for himself in Whelen Modified Tour circuit winning the championship in 1989, 1991, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002 and 2006. He was also named as a top 10 all-time driver in the series in 2003.
His nine total championships tie him with Richie Evans for most in NASCAR history.
He holds the Whelen Modified Tour record with 74 victories from 1985 to 2014.
Stefanik never made it to the NASCAR Cup series, but competed in 26 races each in the Busch (now Xfinity) and Craftsman Truck (now Gander Outdoors) series during his career.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 15, 2019 . . . The excitement continues to build for two big nights of auto racing action at Grandview Speedway this weekend topped by the 49th Annual Freedom 76 Modified Classic that rewards the winner with $25, 000 plus lap money on Saturday night.
The weekend kicks off with the action packed Freedom 38 for Sportsman stock cars paying the winner of the 38-lapper $2,000. With the increased purse this race is bound to attract a number of visitors. And the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series, featuring the popular 305 Sprints, will have standouts such as Tim Tanner Jr. leading a large field of entries as they battle in their 25-lap main event.
Also on Friday night, action starting at 7:30 p.m., the Modified racers planning to participate in the Freedom 76 will be given practice time during the evening’s events.
Pits open at 3 p.m. and main grandstand gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Adult admission is $12 with youngsters 6 through 11 paying $5 and kids under 6 admitted free. Pit admission for Friday is $35 and there is no license required.
Advance tickets for the Freedom 76 will be available Friday night for just $35 while on race day they will sell for $40. Youngsters, 6 through 11, on Saturday will pay $10 while kids under 6 are admitted free. Pit admission will be $45 with no license required.
Saturday will see pit gates open at 9 a.m. Advance ticketholders are admitted to the main grandstands at 3 p.m. while the ticket windows open at 3:30 p.m.
Before the action starts on the track Saturday the Grandview Speedway 2019 champions will be featured in an autograph session at the SDS Photo stand from 3:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m./4:30p.m. Modified champion, now a six time champion, Duane Howard, along with Sportsman champion Brad Brightbill will have their Sharpies ready to sign autographs for the fans.
And then it will be on track action at 7 p.m. as Modified racers warm up, participate in qualifying events, the $1,000 to win Cash Dash, the Schaffer Racing Minuteman 20 and topped off by the 49th edition of the Freedom 76, “The Granddaddy of Modified Stock Car Classics”.
A large amount of lap money will be divided amongst lap leaders during the big race and the racer gaining the most positions during the 76 laps will receive $500 from Bobby Gunther Walsh and his sponsors as the Hardcharger.
Bob Hilbert Sportswear will present a jacket to the winner of the Freedom 76. As in the past Penske Shocks will present a product certificate to the Minuteman 20 winner. And Lias Tire will be awarding tire certificates.
Heading up the Modified action will a number of visiting talents along with others taking on Grandview champion Duane Howard who is a five time winner including last year, five time winner Craig Von Dohren, Jeff Strunk (a seven time winner), former winner Ray Swinehart, John Willman, Doug Manmiller, Jared Umbenhauer, Hall of Famer Frank Cozze, three time winner Meme DeSantis, Mike Gular, Bobby Gunther Walsh, Ryan Lilick, and so many more. And as always there will be a number of last minute surprise entries.
Rain date for the Freedom 76 is September 28th. There is no rain date for the Friday night events.

The Hamlin Speedway was loaded with tremendous racing activity last evening and with an eye on the weather in the Poconos, was able to soldier through it and have a great night at the speedway. The crowd was up and the roster was down with the drivers fearing the speedway might get wet. Once again the Smith Fanily was off and running with some superb heat racing action and eight feature events. The racing action at the 1/5th mile clay-cushioned facility has been remarkable with many outstanding driving personalities carving out their own claim to fame in weekly competition for age groups from 8 to 60 plus and many of the drivers last night were first time winners in their current division. With rain falling throughout the area, it was truly a miracle the Smith Family was able to pull this event off.
The 2019 season is now seventeen weeks old and many special events have been already been completed but the racing action is just a week away from being compeleted at Hamlin. To recap the action on Saturday some drivers at the speedway gained a first, meaning they won their first ever event at the speedway taken over by the Smith Family in 2005. Doug Smith, a nearby resident of Mount Cobb, captured the Junior Slingshot action. Tyler LIndsay had the hot foot in in the Regular 600 main event and came away as a winner. The Rookie main event for the 600 Sprints was captured by Tony Parlanti. Last season's Junior Slingshot champion, Shelby McLaughlin, was way ahead of the curve last night as she powered her way to a win in the All Star Slingshot field. Unheralded Jame Costlow had the fast ticket around the Hamlin Speedway last night as he outgunned a stellar turnout of equipment in the Smith Family Memorial event for the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modifieds. Wally Bell was quick to ring the bell as he captured the Super Slingshot win
James Costlow, who had been in the past running with the Slingshots, took command of the Smith Family Memorial at the start and quickly carved out a lead over the rest of the field. Amand Buchel, who began from third place, had a quick race car at her disposal and with each lap closed a bit on Costlow. With the 30-lap distance in place, Costlow remained strong throughout the event and was able to hold both Buchel race cars (Amanda and Adam) behind him to go on and capture his first win in the Stage One division. Amanda and Adman Buchel followed with Jeff Hineline rushing to fourth place with Ricky Bobby nailing down a top five finish. Anthony Chrobak headed up the next five finishers with Tanner VanDoren, Mike Samony, Joel Price, Mark Evans, and Evan Civick following.
In the Super Slingshots, Wally Bell was all business as he took the lead at the start and was able to carve some distance between he and second place runner Jim Conroy. Conroy had his hands full trying to defend his turf against a very pesty Dale Kober who tried every inch of the territory involved to get by him to no avail. Paul Ennes hustled his way through the field to grab up fourth place and Roger Collins returned to the speedway to nail down a top five finish. David Guest, Mark Exeter and Jeremy Hoffman followed.
The diminshed Rookie feature for the 600 Sprints began with Tony Parlanti showing the hot hand from the top of the raceway. Brandon Nicholas and Jake Eby tried to track Parlanti down but were engaged in their own super battle for position and Parlanti scooted away from them. Parlanti captured the win with Nicholas in second, Eby third, Cody Powell in fourth and Carmen Leggio in fifth place.
In the regular event for the 600 Sprints Noah Zielinski lead the first lap until a restart slowed the action. On the restart, Mack Brink nosed his way outfront with the thundering herd following closely behind. Tyler Lindsay using all angles of the raceway was able to move in and successfully make the pass on Brink from the top of the raceway. Lindsay made the winning pass stick the remainder of the event and captured the win with Brink settling for runner-up honors. Reigning track champion Mick D'Agostino was third in this one with Noah Zielinski in fourth place and Zack Weisenfluh settling for fifth. "The Big Show" Joey Amantea hustled to sixth place with Kyle Ferrucci, Ryan Bohlke, Dennis Stawinsky, Don Colaluce and Jacob Nemeth finshing up the places.
The Junior Slingshot found RJ Sherman leading for a lap and a spin brought the action to a halt. Doug Smith, who had been in a position to win some races, on the restart quickly found the top of the raceway to be the hot spot on the raceway as he took over the lead and lead the remainder of the event to capture the win. Sherman was the runner-up with Aidan Donaldson doing great work to finish third. Aidan Elliot and Charlene Benz completed the top five. Isabella VanOrden was sixth with the returning Connor Mirabelli seventh and Chase Zimmer eighth, Cole Perez in ninth and Kasey Hufcut tenth.
The All Star Slingshot event began with Shelby McLaughlin grabbing the lead from the pole position. McLaughlin was fast and was precise on the speedway hitting her marks at each step and carved out a huge lead over the field. Paul Ennes was in the runner-up role and just held his position down for second place. Scott Neary, who was running third, had a gang of cars behind him looking for a spot but Neary was strong enough to hold the feild at bay. James Benz was fourth in this one and Brian Smith hustled to fith place. Joey Kalafut hit his notes as he headed up the second five with Ashley Kober, Wally Bell, Andrew Turpin, and Justin Newhard nailing down top ten finishes.
Jeff Metsger was all speed as he took the lead at the start of the PA Winged Outlaw event and led all of the way to a win over Clint Loss. It was the first appearance of the division at Hamlin.
In the rained out 600 Sprint feature from last month, "The Taylor Tornado" Zack Weisenfluh took over the lead with a pass of Mack Brink on lap nine to go and claim the win. "The Traveling Man" Mick D'Agostion utilized all of the raceway to claim runner-up honors in this one with Mack BRink in third place, Tyler LIndsay fourth and Joey Amantea in fifth. Kyle Ferrucci, Dennis Stawinsky, and Noah Zielinski rounded out the field.
Pearl Jams:
The track was racy from start to finish and Track Promoter Randy Smith continued to work on the speedway as necessary for the activity on the speedway was non-stop but very racy throughout. Randy Smith keeps doing remarkable work at the speedway with as many as five grooves on the speedway for the racers and a dust free environment.
Paul Ennes and Shelby McLaughlin captured the heat wins for the All Star Slingshots. The Junior Slingshot heats went to RJ Sherman and Doug Smith. The Stage One Modifieds rand two rounds of heat events with Michael Samony and James Costlow winning the first round and Tanner VanDohren and Amanda Buchel capturing the second round. The Super Slinger heat found Dale Kober at the head of the pack. The JPA Masonry Wingless heat was claimed by Noah Zielinski. The JPA Masonry Rookie 600 Sprints ran one heat and Brandon Nicholas was victorious. Russ Ludwig captured the lone heat for the PA Winged Outlaws and did one lap at 12.602 seconds.
"The Ambassador" Wes Hearn and his son Wesley were at the controls of the flags last night at the speedway as regular flagger Russ Furry is still hobbled by injuries he suffered at his regular job.
Anthony Chrobak Sr captured the 50/50 last evening.
One of the track regulars, Anthony "Chops" Chrobak spent a day at the Evergreen Speedway last week as part of the Rusty Wallace experience. Chrobak explained he learned alot from the experience as he expands his horizons in motorsports.

Aaron Reutzel outruns Cole Duncan in Dean Knittel Memorial finale for $12,554; Highest paying sprint car event in track history
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (September 14, 2019) - After winning the first two nights of competition at Atomic Speedway, Warrnambool, Australia’s James McFadden was a surefire favorite to claim the historic Saturday night payday and earn the weekend sweep, but defending Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 titleholder, Aaron Reutzel, had something to say.
Just one week after claiming the largest payday of his career, as well as the largest payday in Port Royal Speedway history, Clute, Texas’ Aaron Reutzel etched his name in another set of sprint car racing history books, doing so by scoring the second edition of the Dean Knittel Memorial at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio - the largest paying sprint car event in the track’s storied history.
Nearly sweeping the entire evening program at the ‘Fastest 3/8-Mile Dirt Track in the Nation,’ Aaron Reutzel earned his $12,554 score in fantastic fashion, ultimately leading all 30 circuits while holding off charges by current track championship point leader and former Atomic Speedway Ohio Sprint Speedweek feature winner, Cole Duncan.
The victory bumped Reutzel’s All Star season win total to 13, now with 22 on his career. On a side note, despite not winning all three events at Atomic Speedway, Reutzel’s speed was still the topic of conversation, as the Series win leader set ‘quick time’ during all three programs.
“This is really cool,” Aaron Reutzel said in victory lane, driver of the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports/Folkens Brothers Trucking/Fischer Body Shop/Hollywood Blasting and Coating/No. 87 sprint car. “Hats off to the entire Knittel Family for putting up this kind of money for us to race for. From one driver to the next, we really appreciate it.”
Although Reutzel was on the point for all 30 laps, Lockbourne, Ohio’s Cole Duncan did everything he could to drive around the current All Star Circuit of Champions point leader. A quick, but abrasive racing surface did make things difficult for Duncan, but on more than one occasion, the local favorite put himself in position to capitalize.
The main event’s second and final caution, the first being on lap two for Paul McMahan who stopped on the backstretch, set-up Duncan’s eventual late-race surge for the lead. Helping set Duncan’s stage, traffic entered the picture on lap 18 ultimately slowing Reutzel’s pace around the middle and top of the speedway.
By lap 21, Duncan was all over the back bumper of Aaron Reutzel, chasing the Texan as the duo started to enter slower traffic. Despite keeping pace with the defending All Star champion for the next three circuits, Reutzel soon discovered another gear, eventually finding a way to put a lapped car between himself and Duncan. The trend continued on lap 26 when Reutzel found his way around another slower car, now separating himself from Duncan with two lappers. By the time the final checkers flew, Reutzel’s command was nearly two seconds.
“I felt like I was good enough to win the last two nights, but I kinda gave them away,” Reutzel continued. “I got a phone call from the guys at Fischer Body Shop today and they were kinda giving me a hard time. I wanted to make sure I didn’t give this one up.”
Cole Duncan held on to finish second, followed by Jimmy Stinson, Chad Kemenah and Dale Blaney.
It was announced during opening ceremonies that the 2020 edition of the Dean Knittel Memorial will award a $15,554 top prize.
Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their final month of competition with one last multi-race road trip, and by no surprise considering their latest travel trends, the traveling sprint car wheelmen will hit the Keystone State, ready to invade Williams Grove Speedway and Lincoln Speedway, yet again, on Friday and Saturday, September 20 & 21. On top of that, Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland, will host the All Stars on Sunday, September 22.
