Aaron Reutzel uses late race restart to steal Brad Doty Classic opener at Attica Raceway Park, reclaims All Star championship point lead
ATTICA, Ohio (August 30, 2019) - Clute, Texas’ Aaron Reutzel is certainly no stranger to Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory lane, but his trip to the top of the podium on Friday night at Attica Raceway Park was just as dramatic as it was last minute, utilizing a restart with three laps remaining to steal the victory from race-long leader and California hotshot, Buddy Kofoid.
For Reutzel, the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic presented by Racing Optics opening night victory was valuable not only short term, earning $5,000 for his efforts, but it was also valuable long term, as the defending All Star titleholder reclaimed the championship point lead by two markers over Hartford, Ohio’s Dale Blaney. Reutzel’s win bumped his count to a staggering ten on the season, now with two at Attica Raceway Park in 2019.
Also using the late-race restart to his advantage, the ‘Steel City Outlaw’ Tim Shaffer chased Aaron Reutzel to the final checkers, followed by Buddy Kofoid, Brock Zearfoss and Cap Henry.
“It’s nice to get a win. We’ve been having either really good luck, or really bad luck; no in between,” Aaron Reutzel expressed in victory lane, driver of the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports/Folkens Brothers Trucking/Fischer Body Shop/Nattress Construction/No. 87 sprint car. “It was a great night for all of my guys. It was nice to close back in on the points. Dale (Blaney) and I have been going back and forth a lot this year in the points. I just want to get the lead and set sail. Dale is a seasoned veteran at this stuff and probably takes the stress a little bit better than I do.”
Starting fourth on the evening grid, Reutzel was not a major contender until late in the 40-lapper. Battling early with Republic, Ohio’s Cap Henry, the pair exchanged the runner-up spot nearly five times before Reutzel finally settled into second on lap 28.
While Henry and Reutzel battled in the background, Buddy Kofoid was in control. The Ed Neumeister Racing ace took off from the pole position and maintained a blistering pace on the topside of the speedway. An early reg flag incident on lap eight, followed by a pair of cautions on lap 13 and lap 17, were Kofoid’s only distractions during the first half of the 40-lap program.
A long green flag segment after the lap 17 caution eventually led the front-runners to lapped traffic. Despite Kofoid’s torrid pace on top, getting by the slower cars became a challenge, ultimately allowing Cap Henry and Aaron Reutzel to track down the youngster.
On lap 28, executing a bold slider between turns three and four, Reutzel drove by Henry for second, next setting aim on the No. 11N of Kofoid. As the laps clicked down, so did Kofoid’s command, nearly losing the top spot to Reutzel when the Texan attempted a slide job in turns one and two on lap 37. Although the attempt failed, yellow flags waved shortly thereafter giving Kofoid the breather that he needed, or so he thought.
It turns out that the ensuing restart with three laps to go was just what Reutzel needed, sticking himself between the bottom edge and a blocking Kofoid as the pair battled through turns one and two.
“I was going to try to get a run on the top, but he blocked the top,” Aaron Reutzel said. “I really thought he was going to take off earlier than that and not leave us anything, but he waited a long time to take off. I knew if we had any chance, that’s when it was going to be. I think he knew he made a little bit of a mistake and tried to block it, but he left the door open just enough. We had a great race car. That late caution is what won us the race.”
The final caution also allowed Tim Shaffer the opportunity to drive by Kofoid to claim second. It was the Aliquippa-native’s first night in the Ron Gorby-owned/Howard Johnson of Lima/No. G1.
“We’re still learning the car,” Tim Shaffer said of his new opportunity, who started fifth on the grid. “Early on in that race, I just couldn’t get the wing back enough. The track was so tight on the right rear. It finally slicked up to where I could get the wing back and get a little more leverage getting into the corner. That last restart, I think I had a shot at (Reutzel) but I missed the bottom. It’s a great night and a great job for all of us.”
“My motor didn’t take off there on that last restart,” Buddy Kofoid explained. “I guess I just need to do my job better on restarts. I really wasn’t challenged on the restarts before that one. I’m just glad to finish in a podium spot.”
Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic presented by Racing Optics competition will continue at Attica Raceway Park on Saturday, August 31. Although the scenery will be the same, the stakes will be higher, as the two-day finale will award a $10,000 top prize, officially concluding Attica’s 32nd season of action.

SECOND NO MORE: Schuchart wins at Skagit Speedway
Logan Schuchart dominated the 30-lap event to win his fifth race of the season
ALGER, WA – Aug. 30, 2019 – Logan Schuchart always wanted to match his grandfather Bobby Allen’s win total in a single World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season – five.
For the Pennsylvania-native that number always stopped at four. He's had seven second-place finishes since his fourth win of the year in June. Always close. But never quite enough.
Until Friday night at Skagit Speedway. Schuchart claimed his first victory at the 3/10-mile speedway and the illustrious fifth win of the season.
“Having my grandfather by my side since the beginning, he’s the main part of why this team is where it is, and really everyone together, but he’s the boss, the man in charge,” Schuchart said. “The most Outlaw wins he had in a year was five, so that was my main goal at the beginning of the year to at least get that. It’s pretty cool to do that with him and the rest of our team.”
Schuchart and his Shark Racing team at first looked destined for another runner-up finish as the night progressed. He finished second to Kraig Kinser in his Drydene Heat race and then second to Kinser again in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash.
While Schuchart was hungry for another win this year, Kinser had his eye on his first victory since 2017.
In the Heat race and the Dash, Kinser got the jump on Schuchart at the start both times, able to clear the Drydene No. 1s down the backstretch and pull away to the win.
When the 30-lap Feature went green, Schuchart was ready. He stayed side by side with Kinser into the first turn. Kinser, on the bottom, edged Schuchart on the exit of turn two, but the Shark Racing driver had the better run on the outside and powered by the Mesilla Valley Transportation No. 11k for the lead.
Both drivers contributed the feat to larger fuel loads for the Feature.
“I got on the gas, got a little high, it really wasn’t that bad down the straightaways, but when I got into one it wouldn’t turn, I had to slow down too much and he ripped the top on me,” Kinser said.
Schuchart pulled away by several car lengths, but a caution two laps into the race brought Kinser back to his tail tank. On the restart the Pennsylvanian picked up where he left off. He rocketed in front of Kinser by almost two car lengths before entering turn one and then ran away with the lead.
Kinser said he couldn’t hang with Schuchart in traffic.
Schuchart caught the back of the field by Lap six, but the slower cars didn’t hinder his performance. He maneuvered around them with ease, never losing his quick pace. However, in the closing laps, Schuchart said he felt like he fell off a little bit.
“For the first half, three-quarters of the race I could run up on any car that is in front of me and run a different line and go right by them,” Schuchart said. “There at the end I caught up to Shane (Stewart), but I wasn’t gaining anymore. It’s hard to tell how close Kraig is. You’re just running your own race at that point.”
At the end of the 28- lap run to the finish, Schuchart crossed the finish line with a 4.6 second lead over Kinser.
“I’ve wanted to win here for a couple of years now, since we’ve been coming here,” Schuchart said.
While Schuchart celebrated breaking his streak of second-place finishes, Kinser was celebrating his runner-up finish. It was his fourth top-five of the year and first podium finish of the year, too.
“Struggled a little bit the last couple of weeks, but this feels pretty good,” Kinser said. “Obviously would’ve liked to have gotten the win, but just the way it goes. I’m happy we had a quick car from the time we unloaded to the checkered flag.”
Rounding out the podium was former full-time World of Outlaws driver and Burlington, Wash.-native Jason Solwold. He was also fast all night, making the Dash and then holding onto the third-place spot throughout the Feature.
“We definitely came out of the box good,” Soldwold said. “Third quick and third in the main event there, not too bad.”
Shane Stewart earned the KSE Hard Charger award by charging from last on the grid – 18th – to 13th. It was a small victory after flipping on the opening lap of his Heat race – that resulted in him throwing a few jabs at Carson Macedo, who had made contact with him.
David Gravel and his Jason Johnson Racing were the best out of the box to start the night by setting a new track record of 10.578 sec. – Gravel’s 14th Quick Time of the year. He broke his streak of consecutive podium finishes since winning the Knoxville Nationals, though, with a sixth-place finish. However, he was still able to gain points on 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz – who finished eighth.
Gravel is still third in points, now 102 points behind Schatz. California-native Brad Sweet, who sits second in points, also gain a little on the reigning champion by finishing fifth – now 24 points behind Schatz.
Schuchart – 298 points behind Schatz – knows it would be hard to get in the mix with the top three in points, but has his eye on fourth-place, currently held by Daryn Pittman. He’s currently 34 points behind him.
“We’re kind of close to Daryn there in points, it would be nice to see if we could get him,” Schuchart said. “My best finish in points is sixth, last year. We’re fifth right now, I’d like to get to fourth and stay consistent. Keep learning as a program.
“We had two new guys with Ron Helmick and Ben Whitman this year and they’ve improved tremendously since they’ve started. I just want to improve the team and keep building this team from what it was five years ago and keep heading in the right direction.”
Tying records with Bobby Allen is a good start.

Labor Day Double Dip On Tap For New Egypt Speedway This Saturday August 31st; Twin 20’s For Vahlco Wheels Modifieds
New Egypt, NJ – Like the saying goes, double your pleasure, double your fun. That is the case at New Egypt Speedway this Saturday night when the 2nd Annual Labor Day Double Dip is taking place for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds who will do battle in not one but two 20-lap feature events this weekend. Billy Pauch Jr. leads the points right now over Danny Bouc, Brandon Grosso, Ryan Krachun and Mike Butler and with two races this weekend, the points can certainly get shaken up. Also in action this Saturday will be the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, Hammer Sportsman and the Mike’s Performance Center 4-Cylinders. Rich Mellor, Bob Lineman Jr. and Mike Fox currently lead the point standings in those respective divisions.
All sets of twins will be admitted free on Saturday night. Adult admission is $25, Seniors (65+) are $23, Teens (12-15) & Military w/ID are $15 with Kids 11 & Under being FREE. Pit gates will open at 4pm, Grandstands at 5pm with Hot Laps starting at 6pm and Racing beginning at 7pm! This will be our last 7pm start of the season as starting next week we will move back to a 6pm starting time.
As the points season starts to wind down, New Egypt Speedway still has some big events left in its 2019 season starting with the John Romano Memorial coming up on September 7th, Modified championship night coming up on September 14th, Championship night on September 15th, the 3rd Annual Legends of the Fall 75 on October 5th, AMA Flat Track Motorcycles on Saturday night October 19th and the 7th Annual All Star Cup Shootout on Saturday October 26th.

NEARLY 200 WINS REPRESENTED IN BC39 LINEUP THUS FAR

Speedway, Indiana (August 26, 2019).........There's no questioning the difficulty of winning a feature event on the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship trail.
One must be at the top of your game, up in the seat, and prepared for anything thrown in your direction, situationally or slider-wise.
There's no slouching on this year's 87-car, and growing, entry list for the Sept. 4-5 Driven2SaveLives BC39 powered by NOS Energy Drink at The Dirt Track at IMS. Nearly one-third of the field possesses a feature victory in the series, totaling 194 wins amongst 27 drivers.
Thirty of those 194 wins are held by 26th place BC39 finisher Dave Darland, which ranks the Lincoln, Ind. driver 11th all-time with the likes of Mick McGreevy and 12-time Indianapolis 500 starter Johnny Parsons.
Fifth place BC39 finisher in 2018, Christopher Bell owns 23 wins in the series and has been a constant of sustained success for much of the decade despite limited appearances over the past half-decade, winning nine of 26 starts since becoming a part-time USAC Midget competitor in 2015 following a championship run in 2013.
Jerry Coons, Jr. has routinely knocked out top-tens and top-fives with the series for more than two decades. The two-time series champion from Tucson, Ariz. finished 9th in the BC39 last year and possesses 19 series victories, most among all full-time series competitors.
Like Bell, Kyle Larson has been a semi-regular competitor on the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget tour for much of the decade, but their talent supersedes the limited amount of seat time in a midget they have each year. The Elk Grove, Calif. native has been in position to win in three of his six series starts this season, winning once at The Dirt Oval at Route 66 in June for the 16th of his career, and was challenging for the victory on the final lap at both Putnamville, Ind. and Kutztown, Pa.
Tanner Thorson made a miraculous comeback from injuries suffered in a road accident in March of this year. With the scars remaining visible and the determination burning inside of him, the 2016 series champ from Minden, Nevada, charged from 15th to 1st in Putnamville's round of Indiana Midget Week in June, the furthest back any driver has started and won from this year, his 13th in the series.
Russ Gamester's long and distinguished and career has seen wins in all three of USAC's National divisions, including 12 in the Midget series where he collected the 1984 series Rookie of the Year and the 1989 driver championship. Gamester (Peru, Ind.), along with Coons, completed IndyCar tests with Panther Racing in 2000 at Texas Motor Speedway, but never quite got their shot on the 2.5-mile oval.
Tyler Courtney has more than doubled his USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget win tally in just half a season in 2019, jumping from five to 11 victories in search of a first series title, leading the points as it stands now, just one year removed from claiming the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car championship.
Phoenix, Arizona's Chad Boat, son of 1998 Indianapolis 500 pole sitter and 1998 Texas Indy Racing League winner Billy Boat, could be the next to reach the double-digit win club with the series after finishing second in the inaugural BC39, which would break a tie he holds with his father where they both stand at nine wins.
Defending BC39 winner Brady Bacon (Broken Arrow, Okla.) earned his seventh and most recent series victory at IMS last summer. Reigning series champ Logan Seavey (Sutter, Calif.), 13th in 2018, has six while 2017 champ Spencer Bayston (Lebanon, Ind.) has five alongside two-time NASCAR Monster Energy Cup winner Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (Olive Branch, Miss.), 11th in 2018, and Kevin Thomas, Jr. (Cullman, Ala.), who led the first 30 laps of last year's BC39 before finishing 3rd.
The group of four-time winners is an eclectic bunch with 7th place BC39 finisher Justin Grant (Ione, Calif.), 1990 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals victor John Heydenreich (Bloomsburg, Pa.) and Auckland, New Zealand's racing hero, Michael Pickens, the winningest driver from outside of the USA in USAC National Midget history.
Two-time Indiana Midget Week champion Shane Cottle (Kansas, Ill.), 15th in 2018, is a part of the three-win club with 2013 Hut 100 winner Zach Daum (Pocahontas, Ill.), 2006 Turkey Night Grand Prix winner Billy Wease and last year's Stoops Pursuit winner at the BC39, Zeb Wise (Angola, Ind.), 14th in 2018.
Pittsboro's Critter Malone, whose father Shim was a long-time chief starter for USAC, has two National Midget victories to his credit, as does Chris Windom (Canton, Ill.), 12th in 2018, who earned his first pair of wins this year after making more than 100-plus starts over the past decade before finally breaking through.
Those with just a single piece of USAC National Midget hardware in their trophy case are versatile Sprint Car, Midget and Silver Crown standout Steve Buckwalter (Royersford, Pa.), 2018 Jason Leffler Memorial winner Tyler Thomas (Collinsville, Okla.), 22nd in 2018, and three drivers who've each tallied victory number one this calendar year, Tanner Carrick (Lincoln, Calif.), Jason McDougal (Broken Arrow, Okla.), 16th in 2018, and Cannon McIntosh (Bixby, Okla.).
With all that said, it takes just one win to put your name into the record book. And if that one just so happens to be the upcoming Driven2SaveLives BC39 powered by NOS Energy Drink, that's one that will not soon be forgotten by the driver, the team, the fans and, yes, the record book.
Teams can file their entry for the event at www.TheBC39.com, where they may also purchase pit and parking passes for the two-night USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship event.
There are three options for viewing the racing action and also having pit pass access. You can purchase a competitor pit pass only where no seat is included with limited viewing of the track. Secondly, you can purchase a competitor pit pass with reserved seating included, which are available in the lower level of the main grandstands. Both options are available on www.thebc39.com/.
Competitor/crew seating has been added as a special general admission-only section in the main grandstand for the upcoming Driven2SaveLives BC39 powered by NOS Energy Drink at The Dirt Track at IMS on September 4-5. Pits are located outside turns three and four this year, giving competitors and crews direct access to the grandstands.
Parking will also be available on both ends of the track for those with infield parking passes. Each entry filed will come with two VIP parking passes for inside parking at IMS. All others must either purchase inside parking or park outside of turns three and four of the 2.5-mile paved oval track.

The BC39 officially gets underway on Tuesday, Sept. 3 with team parking at noon. From 4-6pm, catch five USAC icons at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum's USAC Stars: From the Dirt Track to the Brickyard series. The event will feature legends Don and Mel Kenyon, and current drivers Michael Pickens, Chris Windom and Chad Boat. Pat Sullivan, longtime USAC public address announcer, historian, and author, will emcee this evening of entertaining banter and thrilling stories.

Following the event, make your way to USAC headquarters, just across the street from the IMS Administration office at 4910 W. 16th Street, for the BC39 Draft Party from 5:30pm to 8:30pm Eastern where drivers will draw for their heat race positions. All cars entered will be randomized into a draft order for the heat race draft. Teams will be able to pick their heat race spot, either in person with a representative, or remotely through USAC officials. Any unrepresented team will be given the first available spot. The heat race position draft is open to the public with team members getting priority into the new USAC worldwide headquarters. Food and beverages will be available.
On track action begins Wednesday, Sept. 4, beginning with the drivers meeting in the IMS Media Room at 2pm. Public gates open at 3pm with cars hitting the track for practice at 5pm, followed by opening ceremonies at 6:30pm. Heat races and the Stoops Pursuit race will conclude the night's racing action.
The finale, on Thursday, Sept. 5, will have the public gates opening at 3pm and cars on track for practice at 4:30pm, with qualifying races to follow at 5:30pm. Opening ceremonies are slated for 7pm and immediately followed by the main feature events, starting with multiple D-Mains, C-Main, the semi-feature and the 39-lap main event.

Billy Pauch Jr. is “the Man” on Ladies Night at New Egypt
(Aug. 24, 2019): Billy Pauch Jr. of , Frenchtown, NJ won his fourth Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event of the season on Central Paint Ladies Night Saturday at New Egypt Speedway. The 2017 Modified champion & current point leader powered around race leader Cale Ross on lap 16 and went on to his first win at NES since June 26th.
“We finally got one!” quipped a visibly relieved Pauch Jr. in victory lane, “We had a very good car tonight. These past two weeks are probably the toughest I have ever had racing and I was really down on myself, but we pushed thru and I am really proud of this whole team. This was a much needed win”
Cale Ross, who ran away and hid in his heat race victory, looked to repeat that performance at the start of the 30 lap feature event. Ross with Blaine Bracelin in tow pulled away from the rest of the field when the yellow was quickly displayed with two laps in the books when Kevin Vaclavicek spun in turn 3 and Tuesday night’s winner David Van Horn slammed into him. Despite the heavy contact, both cars were able to rejoin at the back of the pack for the restart which saw Pauch Jr. already up to 6th from his 10th starting slot. Ross again dominated the restart as Bracelin gave chase and Pauch Jr. battled with hard charger Danny Bouc as the duo sliced thru the pack. Pauch Jr. won this battle and quickly caught and passed Bracelin for second on lap 7 and then set his sights on Ross, who was 10 car lengths out in front. Pauch began to pound the outside of the race track as he tracked down and was the bumper of the leader by lap 12. Pauch appeared ready to fly by the leader, however Ross had found grip on the very bottom groove of the track and would power back past the point leader on every turn. Ross thwarted Pauch’s attempts to pass at every turn for 4 consecutive laps, until lap 16 when Pauch drove the car in deep into turn 3 and powered around the leader in turn 4. Ross moved up to the outside and kept up the torrid pace just five lengths back over the remaining distance. Some brief hope came in the form of lapped traffic in the final 5 laps, but Pauch Jr. handled it like the champion he is and went on to his 25th career Modified win at New Egypt Speedway. Modified rookie Ross continued to impress with yet another strong run for second. Bracelin posted his best finish ever at NES in third. David VanHorn rallied back from that lap 2 tangle to finish 4th and Davey Sammons rounded out the top five.
Ryan Heim of Parkertown, NJ won his first career feature in the Hammer Sportsman 20 lap event. Heim took command on lap 4 and led the remaining distance holding off a late race charge by Jim Housworth and Steve Davis, who finished second and third respectively. JT Trstensky and Art Liedl rounded out the top five.
The Crate Modifieds also saw a first time winner in victory lane, for the seventh time this season, as Kevin Borden Jr. outpaced rookie Nick Van Wickle over the 20 lap distance. Veteran racer Steve Hicks came home third, followed by point leader Ryan Simmons fourth and Howie Finch in fifth.
Billy Liedtka scored his fifth win and 31st of his career in the 15 lap Street Stock victory. Liedtka held off Mick Search & Brian Spencer for the popular victory.
The Central Paint Ladies night Powder Puff race winners were Daralynne McCaughey (Sportsman) & Ashley Wroble (Street Stocks).
Next week Sat. night August 31st, it is New Egypt Speedway’s annual Labor Day weekend double dip, with Twin 20 lap features for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds. Also on the card will be the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harleys NEWS Sprint Cars, the Hammer Sportsman and the Mike’s Performance Center 4-cylinders. Gates will open at 5pm, with warm-ups at 6pm and the first race starting at 7pm.
