Brad Sweet Sweeps Night 1 at Calistoga 13th-starting Schuchart and red-hot Stewart complete podium
CALISTOGA, CA - September 15, 2017 - California native Brad Sweet swept the program on Night 1 of the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown at Calistoga Speedway. Sweet passed Rico Abreu on lap three and withstood a charge from Abreu in lapped traffic to pick up his fifth win of the Season. Abreu was light at the scales after running out of fuel. 13th starting Logan Schuchart finished second with Shane Stewart completing the podium.
Sweet actually took the lead from Abreu on lap two but a caution flag gave the lead back to the Abreu Vineyards No.24. Sweet dove to the inside of Abreu to officially lead lap three and while he statistically led the rest of the way, it was not easy. Heavy lapped traffic allowed Abreu to pull side by side with Sweet on lap 11. Sweet would clear a lapped car and re-extend his lead. While Abreu stayed within striking distance for much of the race, Sweet was able to capture his fifth win of the season.
"I just tried to get through lapped traffic as good as I could. I knew Rico would be charging," Sweet said upon exiting his Ollie's Bargain Outlet No.49. "We have a lot of podiums, it's nice to be on the top step tonight where this team belongs," he added.
Numerous cautions, including one for fifth place running Kyle Hirst, led to a handful of teams running out of fuel coming to the finish. World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series officials allocated for 60 combined green/yellow flag laps before a fuel stop and that is exactly how many laps the teams ran as they took the checkered. One more caution would have forced a fuel stop. Abreu, who crossed the line second, was one of the teams that was out of fuel and subsequently his No. 24 was light at the scales. David Gravel, who was running in the top five all race, was another competitor to slow on the final lap.
Logan Schuchart charged forward from his 13th starting position to finish second officially, "This Shark Racing team did a great job giving me a fast car. It was a lot of fun," Schuchart, who also came forward four positions in his heat race, said.
Gold Cup Champion Shane Stewart finished on the podium once again and was quick to thank his Larson/Marks team for their continued hard work.
Donny Schatz battled issues all night. He did not run hot laps, time trials and limped through his heat race before switching to a backup car for the Last Chance Showdown, where he came from ninth to fourth. Schatz muscled his way through the field in the early stages, cracking the top ten (from 22nd) in under five laps. The eight-time Series champion crossed the line fourth. Daryn Pittman completed the all World of Outlaws top five.
Kraig Kinser, 20th starting Bud Kaeding, 23rd starting Brent Marks, Jamie Veal and Jason Johnson completed the top ten.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to the Calistoga Speedway Saturday night for the completion of the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown. Once again, DIRTVision.com will have live video coverage of the event.

FREMONT, Ohio – Thirteenth starter Tim Shaffer split race long leader Chris Andrews and second place Brian Lay exiting turn two with just six laps to go and drove to his 2nd win of the season at Fremont Speedway on All Pro Aluminum Heads Night, Friday, Sept. 15. The $5,000 win makes “The Steel City Outlaw” the car to beat for Saturday’s 10th Annual Jim and Joanne Ford Classic and its $10,000 payday.
Shaffer, who now has 17 career wins at “The Track That Action Built,” has taken the victory in the Jim & Joanne Ford Classic in 2009, 2010 and 2012.
“What a great car. Jeff Rudzik and Joe Demyan (owners) and Cody Jacobs…the whole team…boy that car was awesome to drive. These guys are making it fun again. With the schedule we have we can go where we want and do what we want and it makes it fun all around. It’s crazy…I don’t know why I run so well here. I could bend it really good there (bottom of turns three and four) but getting through the middle seemed really good to me. That car would go places you wouldn’t think it could. Starting 13th tonight I didn’t think we had a shot. We just kept plugging away. My team did, I did…that Scott Gressman engine ran awesome,” said Shaffer beside his Rudzik Excavating, Triple X Chassis, VRP Shocks, FK Rod Ends, Scoville Designs backed #49.
Though the feature results weren’t what he wanted, Fremont, Ohio’s DJ Foos still locked up the 2017 All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads FAST 410 Championship Series presented by Ohio Logistics championship and its $10,000 pay check. Foos becomes the first driver in the nine year history of the FAST series to win both the 305 and 410 titles.
“The biggest thing is consistency. You can’t win them all…you just have to be there. The team travelled well. Unfortunately tonight I didn’t get the results the Jay (Kiser) and the guys deserved. These guys pour their hearts and souls into this. We’ve had speed all year and I’m so happy for these guys,” said Foos beside his Jet Express, Crown Battery, Kistler Racing Products, Kistler Engines, JLH General Contractor, NAPA of Bryan, Shelluke’s Bar and Grill backed #23.
Fremont’s Paul Weaver grabbed the lead in the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint feature with 10 laps to go and drove to his third victory of the season at Fremont Speedway. It was Weaver’s 11th overall victory of 2017 and the 44th of his career at Fremont tying him with Wayne Maffett Sr. for eighth on the track’s all-time win list. The win also earned Weaver his second straight JLH General Contractor FAST 305 Championship Series presented by Engine Pro title.
“I’m just thankful to win one race let alone all the races I’ve won over the past two years. This car is good, the engine builders Dave Rice and Bob Hampshire are great…can’t thank them enough for bailing me out when the other engine took a crap,” said Weaver of his M&L Excavating, Hampshire Racing Engines, Schiets Motorsports, Weaver Performance Center, Tender Touch Car Wash, Miller Rigging sponsored #1w.
Delta, Ohio’s Ky Harper held off 2017 track champion John Brooks to score his fifth McCullough Industries 602 Late Model win of the season. The victory is Harper’s 14th career checkered flag at the track.
“We tried some new things on the car tonight…tied some Monster Trucks (Matchbox) on tonight. That was the key and way to go…they’re probably going to ride on there for awhile. I have to thank all my sponsors and all the guys who bust their butts on this car,” said Harper of his B&R Powdercoating, H&H Environmental, Twist-T-Freez, Gibraltar Excavating, VA Risk Services, AM Transport, Track Side Truck & Trailer Repair, Childress Collision, Warpaint Graphics, Mastersbuilt Race Cars backed machine.
In the 30 lap Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint Feature Brian Lay and Chris Andrews brought the field to green with Andrews gaining the advantage over Lay, Lee Jacobs and Aaron Reutzel. As Andrews and Lay pulled away Jacobs and Reutzel battled for third with Stuart Brubaker rounding out the top five. Foos brought out the caution with three laps in with the running order Andrews, Lay, Jacobs, Reutzel, Brubaker, Craig Mintz and Byron Reed.
On the restart Jacobs dove to Lay’s inside and took second on lap five as Lay had his hands full with Reutzel with Brubaker and 10th starter Cole Duncan closing. Action ground to a halt on lap 8 when Trevor Baker flipped; he was uninjured. On the restart Andrews pulled away as Lay slipped around Jacobs for the runner-up spot. All eyes were on Shaffer who had worked his way up to sixth. Reutzel drove into third on lap 11 and closed on Lay just as the caution flew for a Jody Keegan spin with 18 laps to go.
A Broc Martin came to rest to bring out the caution with 14 laps scored and on the restart Foos spun again, ending his night. Andrews again got a great restart over Lay with Reutzel and Jacobs battling for third with Shaffer up to fifth. Shaffer moved into fourth on lap 16 as Andrews held a two car length advantage over the entertaining battle for second involving Lay and Reutzel. As Andrews prepared to enter heavy lapped traffic with nine circuits remaining, Shaffer took third from Reutzel with Lay closing in on the leader.
Shaffer made his winning move exiting turn two on lap 24, splitting both Andrews and Lay and driving under a lapped car on the back stretch. Shaffer drove to the checkers over Andrews, a resurgent Jacobs, Lay and Duncan.
The start of the 25 lap 305 sprint feature was marred by a tangle involving Justin Adams and Bobby Clark initially, and then on the second attempt Jamie Miller spun and Dustin Rall flipped at the opposite end of the track. When the green flew for a third time Kelsey Ivy jumped into the lead from her front row starting spot over Nate Dussel, Ricky Peterson, Seth Schneider and Tyler Street.
Dussel took the lead on lap two but Ivy stayed glued to his rear bumper when the caution flew on lap four for an Alvin Roepke and Cody Bova mishap. In just four laps Weaver had moved from 14th to seventh. The race would go caution free the remaining 21 laps.
With eight laps scored Kelsey Ivy began to pressure Dussel to regain the lead with Weaver closing in third. By lap 11 it was a tremendous three car battle for the lead with Ivy retaking the top spot as Weaver drove into second a lap later. Weaver executed a slider on Ivy for the lead on lap 15 with Dussel following into second a lap later as the leaders caught the back of the field. Meanwhile, Kelsey’s dad, John Ivy, had drive into fifth from his 18th starting position.
Weaver began to pull away slightly over Dussel, Kelsey Ivy, John Ivy and Seth Schneider with five laps to go. Weaver went unchallenged the rest of the way for the win over Dussel, John Ivy, Schneider and Kelsey Ivy.
In the 15 lap late model feature, Ky Harper grabbed the lead from the drop of the green but 2017 Fremont Speedway champion John Brooks stayed glued to his rear bumper. A caution on lap nine bunched up the field, but Harper continued to hold off Brooks as Chester Fitch closed to challenge. With two laps to go Brooks made a couple of moves to the inside of Harper but couldn’t get the pass completed.
Harper took the checkers over Chester Fitch, Brooks, Skeeter Fitch and Kyle Dukeshire.
Fremont Speedway gets back to action Saturday, Sept. 16 for the $10,000-to-win Jim and Joanne Ford Classic with the Ohio Sprint Car Series again challenging the local competitors and the invaders on JLH General Contractor Night. JLH has a lot of contingency money on the line throughout the night and once again thanks to DKW Transport the night’s fast qualifier will earn $500; second quick $300; and third quick $150. Upping the fast time award to $700 are fans Lane Cecil and Steve Klisz.
Friday Jon Horn, owner of JLH General Contractor, announced he would return as the title sponsor of the JLH General Contractor FAST 305 Championship Series in 2018.

WINDOM STRIKES AGAIN FOR 2ND STRAIGHT "JIM HURTUBISE CLASSIC" VICTORY

Terre Haute, Indiana......September 15, 2017 - Since its inception more than six decades ago, the Terre Haute Action Track has had distinct eras that seem to resonate with a particular driver.
Lately, this era at the famed half-mile dirt oval has belonged to Chris Windom who ran fourth with just four laps remaining and used a daring late-race move on Kevin Thomas, Jr. to capture his third-straight USAC victory at Terre Haute in Friday night's USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car "Jim Hurtubise Classic" aboard the Baldwin Brothers Racing/Fox Paving - AMSOIL/DRC/Claxton Mopar.
The Windom/Baldwin connection has now netted four USAC Sprint Car feature wins at Terre Haute dating to 2011. The victory also allowed Windom to join Jack Hewitt as just the second driver to win the "Hurtubise Classic" three times. Windom also became the first to win back-to-back "Hurtubise Classic" races since Hewitt in 1990-1991.

"This place is special to me," Windom praised. "Crew chief Derek (Claxton) and I are always good here. Even when we don't have the fastest car, we just dig deep at the end of the race and get the wins here. I wish we could race here about ten times a year!"
Terre Haute served as a sweet renaissance for the Canton, Illinois driver who hadn't been victorious in the series in nearly three months. Although, the 30-lap feature wouldn't start as triumphantly for the second-place driver in the series standings as it would turn out.
For much of the race, Thomas maintained the dominant car. In the first half, Thomas was clicking off laps a half-second faster than second-running Robert Ballou as he extended his lead to a full-straightaway by the seventh lap.
By the 12th lap, Windom had worked his way to third with a turn two slider on Aaron Farney, then set forth on a mission to run down Thomas and Ballou running one-two.
By mid-race, Ballou was able to hang with Thomas, staying within three car-lengths from the tail of the 9K as the cushion pushed all the way to the concrete at the exits of turns two and four while the two past Action Track winners worked the tail end of lapped traffic. Thomas continuously gapped himself from Ballou by chipping away one car at a time, first getting around the outside of Chapple exiting turn four. As soon as Ballou cleared Chapple, Thomas had regained precious ground once again by diving under Mario Clouser in turn three to pin Ballou, the 2015 USAC champ, behind the trailing car.
With six laps remaining, Windom traded sliders with Farney and fell to fourth where he would remain with four laps to go with the race seemingly out of reach. However, a domino of circumstances befell the front runners to aid Windom's resurgent emergence. First, as Ballou worked on Thomas for the race lead, his right rear tire gave way, sending him to the infield work area for fresh rubber, thus, relegating him to the tail for the lap 27 resumption.
Though standing third in line on the restart behind Thomas and Farney, Windom knew this was the moment of attack to have any chance at victory. Windom dove to the bottom of turn one as the green dropped, disposing of Farney and pulling alongside Thomas before falling back into line in second behind Thomas exiting the second turn.
However, the move would quickly be negated as Chapple slowed to a stop in turn two, sending Windom back to third and forcing him to repeat the exercise once again.
On take two, it appeared to be a carbon copy of the events that had just transpired moments before. Windom dove to the bottom of one, leaving Farney behind as he went toe-to-toe with Thomas before ducking in behind the leader exiting two. That's where he knew his golden opportunity had arrived.
"I just tucked in behind KT and there was a little strip of rubber off turn two you could catch," Windom explained. "I caught that and slid him going into turn three. For the first three-quarters of the race, we weren't the best car, but sometimes on those late-race restarts, you just got to dig deep and make something of it. I knew that was my only shot to get there and I knew there was less than five to go. I knew I had to do something."
Shortly thereafter, on lap 28, second-running Thomas began to slow coming off turn two with, as it turns out, a lack of fuel. That created a bunch up that collected Thomas, the third-place running car of Farney and fourth-running Boespflug who all climbed over each other to varying degrees down the back straightway, yet all remained afloat and continued. Eighth running Shane Cottle wasn't as fortunate, though, and came to a stop while trying to avoid the wreckage to no avail.
On the ensuing restart, Windom broke away while second-running Thomas coasted on fumes to the inside and Boespflug slid by Farney for the runner-up spot. Tyler Courtney and Justin Grant would follow suit on the final lap to take over third and fourth, respectively, as Farney fell to fifth.
Meanwhile, Windom rose head and shoulders above the fray to win by a tick under two seconds over Boespflug, Courtney, Grant and Farney, who gingerly walked away from a nasty-looking barrel-roll flip down the front straightaway underneath the checkered flag after contact with Grant. Farney climbed from the car under his own power, but was transported to the hospital for further observation.

For the second year in a row, Hanford, California's Chad Boespflug finished in the runner-up position behind Windom in the "Hurtubise Classic." This occasion occurred under different circumstances as Boespflug utilized a brand-new crew after shuffling the deck in an attempt to right the ship that had seen its share of choppy waters over the past several weeks in his Dynamics, Inc./Mean Green - PAC Springs/Maxim/Claxton.
"We made some changes over the past couple weeks," Boespflug acknowledges. "We're just trying to get things fun and exciting again. I hired Robert (Brown) and A.J. (Parker) to come help. Things went well tonight right from the start. In hot laps, we didn't have the speed we wanted, but we found something pretty good for qualifying and just continued to progress. It's comforting to work with Robert at such a fast pace to get this thing comfortable. We were actually too good early and really good at the end. The car definitely came to us in the end. It's good to finally run second again after running so terribly the past month and a half or so. It's been pretty up and down to run second, then run bad, then good, then bad."
"Early in the night with a new crew, it can definitely make you tentative, I guess, especially with the tendencies the car has had in the past several races," Boespflug believes. "I tip-toed into it and wasn't as comfortable as I wanted to be early. In qualifying, we made the right changes, got it great and made another good, big change for the heat race. At that point, I had a lot of confidence in what Robert was going to do next. Were we a second-place car? I think we were close, at least third if everything worked out. I'll take it any way I can get it. It's a race to the end, not the middle."
Following a pair of victories in the two most recent series races at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway in August, Tyler Courtney emerged from his 16th starting position to score a solid third in his TOPP Motorsports/TOPP Performance Race Parts - Custom Pump & Controls/Maxim/Gaerte by TOPP.
"We have a really good racecar," Courtney stated. "I put us behind the eight ball in qualifying. It's not what you want to do at a place like this, especially without cautions. We were mired back there in 10th or 11th. With some luck on those cautions, it really played into our hands. You have to get every spot you can if you want a chance (at the championship) at the end of the year, but it's tough when Chris (Windom) and Justin (Grant) run top-five too."
"We had to run everywhere guys weren't," Courtney said. "I made sure that if I had to wait one more lap to get a better run to make sure I cleared a guy so I don't have to mess with him again after that. On restarts, I made sure to protect myself or, if I got a really good run into one, I'd try to kill a guy's momentum and slide him off into one, then hopefully clear him off of two and get the rubber coming off to propel down the back straight. It was tricky to not blow through it and to make sure not to run over the guy you're sliding because you knew he was going to have a run coming down the hill. Luckily, we were in the right place at the right time. A couple times, guys were banging wheels there, but we came out mostly unscathed. We had a couple dings and dents here and there, but that's racing. Sixteenth to third, coming off two wins and another podium, you can't be disappointed about that."

RICK STIEF LEADS ENGLER MACHINE & TOOL MID-ATLANTIC SPRINT SERIES POINT CHASE WITH TWO RACES REMAINING

Garnett Valley, PA’s Rick Stief inches closer to his first career Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series Championship title with two races remaining on the 2017 points championship schedule. Stief, a two-time feature winner this season so far, is the current point leader as MASS heads to Grandview Speedway this Friday, September 15th. The Racesaver/IMCA sanctioned 305 sprint series will join the Sportsman Modifieds the night before the annual Freedom 76’er, which is the following night, Saturday September 16th.
“My goal for the next two races is to not think about the championship and just focus on the races,” Stief said. “I never liked points racing, and I just happened to be lucky enough to miss a week that rained out, so I am proud and excited to be in this position, but I’m not fond of the pressure that comes with it. I just want to race, and hopefully our luck at Grandview will change enough for us to get our first win at that track. We’ve been close, but not close enough”.
Ringoes, NJ resident Tommy Carberry continues to trail Stief by just two points, along with third place standing Eddie Wagner who is just three points out of first. Tim Tanner Jr. and Jeff Geiges, who each own their own a championship title with the former Tri-State Racesaver Sprint Series, also are in contention for the points championship, with just seven and fourteen points separating them from Stief.
Carberry, who is a strong force going into this weekend’s event at Grandview has never had the opportunity to race for a championship, but by putting himself in the position to make it possible this season, he said that it would mean a lot to him to come out on top at the end of the year.
“I’m always confident when we go to Grandview because that track just fits my driving style,” Carberry said. “Each time we visit, we have consistently been a top three finishing car, with the exception of our last race there when I parked it on the backstretch attempting to go for the lead on the last lap. Friday, I’m hoping that this time, we can park it on the front stretch”.
After this weekend, the series will head back to New Jersey’s Bridgeport Speedway next Friday Night, September 22nd, where at the nights end, a champion will be crowned. Four non-point open races will finish out the inaugural season for the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series, in three different states in the Mid-Atlantic region. These four events, which will take place at Port Royal (October 7th), Grandview (October 14th), Georgetown (October 28th) and Bridgeport (November 4th), will all offer extra contingencies, an open handicapping policy for non-members, and higher paying purses, which will be announce in the weeks to come.
Racing on Friday night at Grandview Speedway starts at 7:00pm, and admission for this event is $12 for adults, $5 for children 6 through 11 and kids under 6 are admitted free.

USAC EAST COAST SPRINT CARS SET TO DEBUT IN 2018

USAC Sprint Car racing is coming eastbound on a full-time basis in 2018 when the newly-formed USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series makes its debut.
USAC's newest division joins the slate after series director Curt Michael and the United Racing Club conducted a pair of wingless sprint car events during the 2017 season.
"The very first one at Big Diamond, we had 16 cars and the place was packed," Michael explained. "(The promoter) took two races this year because he's seen it's something to build on. The next time out at Path Valley, we had 26 cars and I think it's only going to get better."
Michael believes the series, which will utilize engines that are 360 c.i., 358 and under in size, creates a place for young drivers competing in wingless micros to step up to where they can run sprint cars without the wing, a foundation he saw being laid down in this past year's events.
"They're cool cars and it's different," Michael said of wingless sprint car racing. "The biggest thing is these kids coming up are racing 600 micros, 270s and SpeedSTRs. It's a big thing in the lower ranks. We brought in a whole bunch of new guys to race with us this year. It didn't hurt URC's wing deal. We even had a couple wingless guys buy wing cars."
The East Coast and, particularly, the state of Pennsylvania is obviously well-known for wing sprint car racing. Michael, who, himself, has made a living racing with the wing as a 9-time URC champion and will continue to race with URC in addition to his new side endeavor leading the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars, sees an opportunity for a different breed of racing to feed the appetite of drivers, teams and fans in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Delaware region.
"I know there's a lot of classes and that's a bad thing in racing," Michael admits. "But on the east coast, nobody can tell me where to go to see wingless sprint cars. It's one thing we don't have out here yet, but it seems like fans and racers want it. There's no doubt about it that it's cheaper. I've done both now. It's less fuel, it's easier on the tires, you don't need wings and you don't need a big trailer. I'm not putting down the wing deal, but it's a fact. It's cheaper to run a wingless sprint car."
Michael is adamant that the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars will not be competing with URC, where he serves as vice-president. The wingless series will be competing on URC's open weekends. A full 2018 schedule is in the works and will be announced at a later date.
"It just seems like it would be best if I did it on my own on the side and didn't book against URC races," Michael explained. "I'm hoping both series will help each other. URC is known as a wing series, which it will remain, and the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars will be the wingless series."

FREMONT, Ohio – DJ Foos sliced his way through lapped traffic like a surgeon to claim his second 410 sprint win of the season at Fremont Speedway Saturday, Sept. 9 on Kistler Racing Products Night. It was the second win of the season at “The Track That Action Built” for the Fremont, Ohio native.
“Wow, to go through what we have gone through the past month and then come out here and get a win says a lot about this team. I had to make some moves in lapped traffic that were close. I ran the bottom to see what was done there and when Lee (Jacobs) opened the top in three and four…it was just too good up there for me not to take it,” said Foos beside his Jet Express, Crown Battery, Kistler Racing Products, Kistler Engines, JLH General Contractor, NAPA of Bryan; Shelluke’s Bar & Grill backed machine.
Monclova, Ohio’s Byron Reed came into the season championship night third in points, but a good qualifying effort, a heat race win and a fourth place feature finish propelled him to his 7th Fremont Speedway track championship.
“I usually don’t pay too much attention to heat races other than to make sure I make the transfer. Then I started doing the math and was like ‘I got a chance at this.’ I want to thank Fremont based Crown Battery for all they do for us and the great fans at Fremont Speedway,” Reed said.
The Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint feature was worth the price of the ticket as Bobby Clark, Paul Weaver and Nate Dussel battled each other and lapped traffic the last five laps. A caution with three laps to go gave Clark a clear track and the Fremont, Ohio driver scored his first win of the season and the 35th of his career at Fremont Speedway. It comes after Clark took a nasty spill last weekend at Waynesfield Raceway Park. Clark now sits 12th on the track’s all-time win list.
“I’m down to one car so I’m glad I got to start closer to the front tonight…I could be more careful that way. It’s been a terrible year; we’ve struggled all year. About the last month or so we figured some things out and the car’s been really good when I’m not crashing. I was glad to see that caution because I was having fits in lapped traffic. Every where I went they went to the same spot. I saw Paul (Weaver) the one time…I was comfortable with three to go but I was still waiting for the slide job,” said Clark beside his Fremont Fence, Kear’s Speed Shop, B&L Plumbing, Shelluke’s Bar, Nagy’s Equipment, Miller Rigging, Bit D’s Pizza, Schiet’s Motorsports, Willey’s Towing backed machine.
Dussel’s third place finish earned him a second consecutive track championship.
“I really didn’t come out here to point race…I kind of felt like we got that out of the way last year. We really wanted to win. This definitely helps considering we won two races this whole year and I feel like we’re a much better team than that. I didn’t want to see that last caution. Right before that I bounced it off the back stretch wall and I think I either bent the ladder or bent the right rear wheel and all of a sudden I could get rolling the bottom better,” said Dussel.
Wayne, Ohio’s John Brooks led flag to flag for his third win of the year in the McCullough Industries 602 Late Models. Brooks’ eighth career win at the track also garnered him his second straight track title.
“It took a little bit this year getting this car figured out. We had it working pretty good but made some changes today and put it on the scales and the scales broke. We didn’t know what we had. Then we loaded it in the trailer and the right front shock was broke too. It was a hell of a day but it worked out. Chris adjusted on it…it wasn’t worth a crap in hot laps. But he got it working good later,” said Brooks beside his Snack Time Vending, Foster Auto Repair backed #00.
Fostoria, Ohio’s Shawn Valenti continued his domination in the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks, recording his seventh feature win of the year. It marks is 39th career victory at Fremont Speedway, moving him to 11th on the track’s all-time win list.
“The guys give me a phenomenal truck once again. We had some issues and didn’t get to hot lap but the Jeff Babcock got it all figured out and here we are again. What a season,” said Valenti beside his A Plus Auto Center; Best Performance; Craig Miller Trucking; Dave Story Equipment; Real Geese backed #7B.
Fremont, Ohio’s Dustin Keegan drove to a third place finish to earn his first ever Fremont Speedway dirt truck track title.
“My dad and all the crew have given me a great truck all season. This is unbelievable…I used to sit in those stands and hope I’d get to race here one day and now to win a track championship…this is fantastic,” said an emotional Keegan.
Lee Jacobs and Foos led the field to green for the 30 lap Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint A-main with Jacobs gaining the advantage over Foos, Bryan Broughton, Travis Philo, Chris Andrews, Valenti and Reed. Foos took several looks to Jacob’s inside over the first hand full of laps with Philo driving into third on lap six. The leaders caught the back of the field on lap eight with Jacobs maintaining the lead over Foos, Philo, Andrews, Broughton, Reed, Broc Martin and Valenti.
Foos and Jacobs switched lines in turns three and four on lap 14 and Foos powered into the lead as they raced into very heavy lapped traffic. A caution at the half way point gave Jacobs a shot at regaining the lead but Foos was too strong on the restart. Andrews took third n lap 17 and started to close on Foos and Jacobs while Philo and Reed battled for fourth. With eight laps remaining Foos raced into very heavy lapped traffic and Jacobs and Andrews closed.
Jacobs took several looks to Foos’ inside while the leader was hung up behind a lapped car. Foos made some daring moves in traffic the last hand full of laps and drove to the win over Jacobs, Andres, Reed and Philo
Matt Foos and Jimmy McGrath paced the field for the 25 lap 305 sprint A-main with Foos jumping into the lead at the drop of the green. Following a caution after a lap was scored, Foos again maintained the lead as Tyler Street jumped into second over McGrath, Clark, Joe Armbruster and 12th starting Weaver. Clark moved into third on lap three with Weaver taking fourth a circuit later. Street spun while running second on lap seven.
Clark powered under Foos for the lead on lap nine as Weaver applied pressure for the runner-up spot finally taking it on lap 14. Weaver methodically cut into Clark’s lead and as they raced into heavy lapped traffic with seven laps to go, took several looks to Clark’s outside for the lead. Weaver made a big bobble on the cushion in turns three and four with four laps to go, as Dussel dove to his inside with Clark in both of their sights. But, a caution with three laps to go gave Clark a clear track and he was able to drive to the win over Weaver, Dussel, John Ivy and Jamie Miller.
Brooks and Keegan brought the field to green for the McCullough Industries 602 Late Model A-main with Brooks jumping into the lead. Ky Harper took second on lap two and pressured Brooks. Several cautions in the opening five laps kept the field close but when the green flew with 10 laps to go, Brooks had his hands full with Harper and Chester Fitch. While battling for second on lap eight, Harper and Fitch made heavy contact, ending Fitch’s night.
Brooks hit his marks perfectly with the remaining six laps and drove to the win over Harper, Keegan, Brad Mitten and Skeeter Fitch.
Mitten and Brad Stuckey led the field to green for the 20 lap dirt truck feature with Mitten gaining the upper hand. Stuckey led laps two and three by a front bumper with Valenti taking the top spot on lap four just before a multi-truck crash. The race would go the rest of the way caution free.
Valenti drove away from the field while the battle for second heated up involving Stuckey, Kent Brewer, Keith Sorg and Daniel Roepke. With eight laps in Valenti’s lead was about eight truck lengths with Roepke now second followed closely by Brewer, Stuckey, Keegan, Sorg and Jeff Ward. Valenti took the checkers nearly eight truck lengths ahead of Roepke, Brewer, Keegan and Ward.
Fremont Speedway will play host to the 10th Annual Jim & Joanne Ford Classic Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15 and 16. Lance Dewease scores richest payday in Port Royal Speedway history
PORT ROYAL, PA (September 9, 2017) - Ending a perfect weekend for the Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, native, Lance Dewease scored the richest payday in the history of Port Royal Speedway on Saturday evening, dominating 44 of 50 circuits around the Juniata County Fairgrounds “Speed Palace” to claim the 50th running of the Tuscarora 50 worth $50,000.
Dewease, now with an unprecedented six Tuscarora 50 titles, started sixth on the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions main event grid, taking command officially on lap seven over Kunkletown’s Ryan Smith and Central Pennsylvania hotshot, Danny Dietrich. Despite a competition yellow during the midpoint of the 50-lapper, Dewease remained flawless during his campaign at the top of the running order, crossing under the final checkers nearly four seconds ahead of Smith, Brock Zearfoss, a hard-charging Lucas Wolfe, and the “Madman” Kerry Madsen.

“I know how to run this place for 50 laps,” Lance Dewease said on the Port Royal Speedway victory lane stage. “We didn’t push it real hard at the beginning just because I didn’t want to overheat my left rear. I probably could have ran a little faster, but I didn’t want to yet. This is all about this team right now. We have a 16-race-old motor in here. It’s the ‘little engine that can.’ My team works their butts off every time we show up to race. It’s definitely hard work that gets us here.”
The “Kunkletown Kid” Ryan Smith and Western Pennsylvania's own Carl Bowser led the 27 starters to green for the 50th running of the Tuscarora 50. Smith earned the early advantage, racing back to the flagstand for the first time with Danny Dietrich, Lance Dewease and Carl Bowser in tow. Utilizing the very topside of the speedway, Ryan Smith kept command for the first six circuits.
By lap three, Lance Dewease had worked his way underneath Dietrich for second. Four circuits later, Dewease was battling for the top spot, ultimately working underneath Ryan Smith with a textbook slide job at the entrance of turn one. Dietrich followed Dewease’s tracks and also worked by Smith, keeping pace with the familiar No. 69K until traffic spoiled Dietrich’s momentum on lap 10.
Working as an advantage for the race leader, traffic eventually intensified which allowed Dewease to escape from the rest of the field. By the time the race was stopped for a competition yellow on lap 25, Dewease’s command was built to nearly four seconds. During the closing laps before the yellow, Ryan Smith battled back to regain second over Dietrich on lap 17. Brock Zearfoss, who started ninth on the main event grid, also raced around Dietrich to claim third on lap 19.
When green flag conditions resumed on lap 26, Dewease was able to pick up right where he left off and return to the bottom of the speedway. By lap 29, Dewease regrew his lead to 2.5 seconds, still flanked by Ryan Smith and Brock Zearfoss. Even when the trio raced into traffic once again, Dewease maintained all momentum, ultimately crossing under the final checkers 3.948 seconds ahead of Smith and Zearfoss.
“We were fortunate enough to win our heat race which put us in a good starting position,” said Dewease, pilot of the familiar Don Kreitz-owned/Sharman Builders/No. 69K. “We had to free ourselves up a little bit during that break. When I got into lapped cars, I started to get really tight. This car loves the clean air. This win is really special to all of us.”
In total, Lance Dewease earned $56,350 during his weekend visit to the Port Royal Speedway “Speed Palace.” The pair of Arctic Cat All Star victories increases his career win total to 35 with “America's Series.”
Returning to Central Pennsylvania for one final time in 2017, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will continue the month of September with trips to Selinsgrove Speedway and Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway on Saturday and Sunday, September 16-17, respectively. The 35th Annual Jim Nace Memorial/National Open at Selinsgrove Speedway will highlight the weekend venture to the Keystone State, awarding an $8,000 top prize; the final event of the 2017 season at the Penn Township half-mile.

About the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions:
All Star Enterprises, LLC, wholly owned by Tony Stewart, d/b/a the All Star Circuit of Champions, is a winged sprint car series. The All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series is one of the oldest traveling 410 sprint car organizations and is a staple of grassroots, open-wheel racing. Formed in 1970 by Bud Miller, the series has largely been considered the first 'outlaw' Sprint Car organization of the modern era. After a 10 year stint as owner of the All Stars, Miller passed control of the series to Bert Emick in 1980; a reign that would continue through 2002. Guy Webb then purchased the series from Emick in the summer of 2002 and served as the series President for the next 12 years. Motorsports entrepreneur Tony Stewart agreed to terms with Guy Webb to become the sole owner of the original winged sprint car tour in January of 2015.
