Shane Stewart Claims Desired Gold Cup Race of Champions Victory
California locals Justin Sanders and Kyle Hirst complete podium
CHICO, CA - September 9, 2017 - Shane Stewart passed local driver Justin Sanders to win his eighth World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Feature of the season, but his first Gold Cup Race of Champions. Sanders finished a career-best second with Friday's winner Kyle Hirst completing the podium.
Before the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Feature pushed off, Stewart already knew that team owner Kyle Larson picked up the NASCAR victory. Stewart, who is no stranger to Victory Lane at Silver Dollar Speedway, can finally cross off the Gold Cup Race of Champions off of his bucket list.
"When you retire, you are only remembered for the big races you win and this was one that I've always wanted to win. We've been close the last few years and to finally get it means so much to me," Stewart said.
Sanders, in search of his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory, was strong all weekend. Sanders led the first 11 laps before Stewart got grip on the bottom of turn four to take the lead. Stewart never looked back.
As lapped traffic became heavier Sanders closed back in on Stewart looking to make a move but a caution on lap 28 gave Stewart a clear track sealing the victory for the Larson/Marks Racing No.2
"Before this weekend, if you would have told me that I was going to run second and fifth with the Outlaws, I would have been ecstatic," Sanders said. "I made one mistake in traffic, it's heartbreaking. We are happy no doubt, but we're bummed at the same time.
Kyle Hirst was all smiles after finishing on the podium and thanked the California faithful multiple times for packing the stands all weekend at the Gold Cup Race of Champions.
Australian Jamie Veal finished fourth with 11th starting Willie Croft completing the top five. Brad Sweet was strong coming from 13th to sixth with Carson Macedo coming home seventh. 14th starting Mitchell Faccinto, Jac Haudenschild and 18th starting Logan Schuchart completed the top ten. Donny Schatz, who was forced to use a provisional for the second consecutive night, scored KSE Hard Charger honors coming from 25th to 11th.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to the Calistoga Speedway for the running of the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown Friday and Saturday September 15 and 16.

Lance Dewease edges Brian Brown for Night Before The Tuscarora 50 win at Port Royal Speedway
PORT ROYAL, PA (September 8, 2017) - A name certainly synonymous with victory lane in Central Pennsylvania, Lance Dewease made his return to the Port Royal Speedway “Speed Palace” on Friday evening and left as a winner, earning the Night Before The Tuscarora 50 victory over a field of 65 Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions entries for a $5,000 top prize.
The victory lane visit, the result of a battle with Midwest invader, Brian Brown, after starting third on the main event grid, bumps Dewease to 34 total wins with the Arctic Cat All Stars throughout the course of his storied career, now with seven at the Juniata County Fairgrounds.
“We were pretty good here tonight for 30 laps, but I think we still need to get a little bit better for the 50-lap race tomorrow,” Lance Dewease explained, pilot of the Don Kreitz-owned/Schannauer Plumbing & Heating/Henry Sharman Builders/No. 69K. “We just had to keep our tires under us. This place was so fast here tonight.”

After withstanding a series of cautions during the first three circuits, once of which resulting in open red flag conditions while track crews cleaned up oil, Fayetteville’s Lance Dewease was able to capitalize on a solid start and maintain third in the running order, eventually taking second from Mike Wagner just as the lead pack was entering traffic for the first time near the completion of lap eight.
Lapped traffic proved to be a benefactor for Dewease during large segments the 30-lap program. By lap nine, Dewease powered his way to second beyond Mike Wagner, now chasing Grain Valley, Missouri’s Brian Brown for the top spot. Despite “Blackjack’s” ability to ring the topside of the speedway through the slower cars, Dewease continued to find ways to keep up with Brown using the very bottom of the half-mile oval, eventually erasing all of Brown’s advantage.
Brown’s lead of nearly two seconds at the midpoint of the main event was cut down to less than a second by lap 23. Dewease ultimately worked his way to the back bumper of the former Knoxville (IA) Raceway track champion on lap 24 which set up his first major bid for the top spot. A successful slide job at the entrance of turn one on the following circuit allowed Dewease to take command of the running order.
On lap 28, Brown set himself up for one last opportunity to regain the top spot back from Dewease, a desperate slide job at the entrance of turn one, but the attempt proved unsuccessful. Dewease kept control to secure his place on top of the Port Royal Speedway victory lane stage. Brian Brown held on to finish second, followed by T.J. Stutts, Greg Hodnett, and the “Madman” Kerry Madsen.
“We knew Brian Brown was going to be fast here tonight,” said Dewease. “He’s got one heck of a motor builder, so we knew he was going to be a rocket ship. This is probably the hardest I’ve had to race this year, but I definitely didn’t keep the tires under me. We are going to have to get better before tomorrow night.”
“To finish second to Lance Dewease while racing against a field of 65 cars is nothing to hang our heads about,” Brian Brown stated. “We have some positive notes to review, so we’ll come back tomorrow and try to get one position better.”
Celebrating its Golden Anniversary in 2017, Tuscarora 50 weekend at the Port Royal Speedway “Speed Palace” will continue on Saturday evening, September 9, with the 50th running of the Tuscarora 50; the biggest sprint car race in the history of Port Royal Speedway. The 50-lap finale will award $50,000 to the main event winner, as well as a minimum of $900 to each starter.
Lance Dewease is the defending Tuscarora 50 champion, claiming the $12,000 payday in 2016 over Stevie Smith, Dale Blaney, Cap Henry, and “Double-D” Danny Dietrich. The 2016 Tuscarora 50 title was the fifth of Dewease’s storied career; the most wins in Tuscarora 50 history.

Kyle Hirst Thrills Hometown Crowd with First World of Outlaws Win at Silver Dollar
Stewart and Scelzi complete podium; California takes top six of seven
CHICO, CA - Kyle Hirst is no stranger to Victory Lane, especially in California. Hirst outdueled Shane Stewart in a thrilling finish Friday at the Silver Dollar Speedway on the opening night of the Gold Cup Race of Champions. It was Hirst's first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Feature Win. Dominic Scelzi came home third, a career-best for him as well.
Hirst was victorious in Heat 4 after leader Kalib Henry lost power steering and that was crucial as the Craftsman Club Dash Inversion was four, lining Hirst up on the front row of the event. Hirst would walk away with the aforementioned Dash with Shane Stewart coming from fifth to second.
Hirst took command from the drop of the green and led the first six laps before Stewart closed in as traffic thickened. Stewart and Hirst made contact the following lap with the Larson/Marks Racing No.2 leading lap seven. As Stewart navigated traffic, Hirst and Scelzi remained within striking distance.
Coming off of turn four on the 11th circuit, Stewart bobbled on the cushion and allowed Hirst to re-take the lead on lap 12. A caution for Sheldon Haudenschild the following lap allowed everyone to catch their breath.
The lone Red Flag for the evening came on lap 16 when Bud Kaeding got sideways and collected Daryn Pittman and Paul McMahan. All drivers were uninjured in the accident. On the ensuing restart, Jac Haudenschild got contact from another competitor ending his night. Jac was running 5th at the time.
The final 14 laps went non-stop with Hirst and Stewart exchanging slide jobs for the lead multiple times. On two occasions, Stewart cleared Hirst off of turn four for the lead but Hirst turned it under and re-gained command into turn one.
Hirst's win was a popular one among the California faithful and led to an emotion-filled Victory Lane with his Roth Motorsports No. 83 team. "I've been racing for 15 years and I've finally snagged one of these World of Outlaw wins. That's for Chico, California," an exuberant Hirst said in Victory Lane.
Stewart and Scelzi completed the podium. "Coming home second is nothing to shake your head at. We continue to have fast a car and that's a testament to my guys. I feel like we have a shot to win every time we roll out," a content Stewart said.
Cory Eliason and Justin Sanders completed the top five. California drivers took six of the top seven positions as Jonathan Allard, in the second Roth Motorsports entry, and 14th starting Shane Golobic crossed the line next.
David Gravel picked up KSE Hard Charger Honors with an impressive 24th to eighth run. Donny Schatz used a provisional to start 25th and made it up to ninth. Sheldon Haudenschild recovered from a spin mid-race to complete the top ten.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to the Silver Dollar Speedway Saturday night for the conclusion of the 64th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions. Caleb Helms earns $10,000 for first-ever Arctic Cat All Star victory during Wayne County’s Pete Jacobs Memorial
ORRVILLE, OH (September 3, 2017) - Finally etching his name in the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions history books, Findlay, Ohio’s Caleb Helms is an Arctic Cat All Star main event winner, earning $10,000 during the annual Pete Jacobs Memorial at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio. The victory, undoubtedly the largest payday of his young career, was a first-ever during Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions competition.
The pilot of the Big Jerk Premium Jerky/Helms and Sons Excavating/Ferguson/Tommy Tire Sales/No. 17 charged from the inside of row five to claim his spot on top of the feature podium, withstanding multiple charges from former Arctic Cat All Star champion, Tim Shaffer, and Lockbourne, Ohio’s Cole Duncan during the closing circuits.
“Man...I’m really happy to be here,” Caleb Helms said with relief in victory lane. “I couldn’t have done it without my family; my dad, my grandpa, my wife, my boys. I’ve been believing I could be here. It has been a long time coming it feels like, but I’m so happy we are finally here.”
Joey Saldana and Chad Kemenah led the feature field to green on Sunday night at Wayne County Speedway. Saldana earned the early advantage, leading Kemenah and Danny Mumaw by the flag stand for the first time. Five cautions interrupted the first eight circuits of the 35-lap main event. During that time, Saldana remained in control, keeping the tight battle for second through fourth between Caleb Helms, Danny Mumaw and Chad Kemenah in his rear-view mirror.
During the lap eight restart, Mumaw, who worked by Helms the circuit prior, drove under Saldana for the lead in turn one. Despite Saldana’s attempt to retake the top spot in turns three and four with a slidejob, Mumaw maintained in command. All momentum would soon be lost once again as caution flags reappeared on lap nine.
Mumaw led the feature field back to green with Joey Saldana right on his tail tank. The nearby Wooster, Ohio, native attempted to run away from the field, but Saldana never allowed it, keeping just a few car lengths between himself and Mumaw. As the pair reached the back of the field, Mumaw’s lead diminished completely, soon finding himself on the back bumper of lapped traffic with Saldana on his heels. Unfortunately for Mumaw, his lead would end in traffic as contact with a lapped car sent him skating into the the infield, also collecting Joey Saldana. Helms, who battled his way into third just before the incident, inherited the top spot.
Green flag conditions returned with Helms now in control over Tim Shaffer and Cole Duncan. Utilizing the very topside of the speedway, Helms was able to maintain momentum over the other front-runners, but not without some added pressure from the “Steel City Outlaw” Tim Shaffer. When Helms and Shaffer entered traffic on lap 25, the gap between the two disappeared completely, battling nearly side-by-side for four circuits from laps 26 to 29. Luckily for Helms, caution flags flew once again, ultimately setting up a clear track and clean air the remaining distance.
“That late caution definitely helped us,” Caleb Helms explained. “I felt like we were finally starting to hit stride. I was able to get my wing back a little bit further and figure out where I needed to enter the corners. Andy Potter did a great job with this car. We keep learning night in and night out.”
“He did a really good job tonight. Caleb ran a really good race,” said Tim Shaffer. “Caleb did everything he needed to do. Those guys work really hard and deserved this one.”
With their Labor Day weekend swing through the Buckeye State officially in the books, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will now trek back across state lines, this time setting the compass toward Central Pennsylvania where “America’s Series” will challenge the notorious Pennsylvania Posse for two consecutive nights of competition at the Port Royal Speedway “Speed Palace.”
In conjunction with the 163rd Juniata County Fair, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will invade Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania, for back-to-back events on Friday and Saturday, September 8-9. The 50th Annual Tuscarora 50 will be the main attraction, awarding $50,000 on Saturday, September 9. The Night Before The 50 preliminary program, awarding $5,000, will kick start the historic weekend on Friday, September 8.

Saldana uses restart to take Dirt Classic Ohio win at Attica; Shaffer gets make-up win

ATTICA, Ohio – Joey Saldana used a restart with just four laps to go to pass Cole Duncan and drive to a $10,000 pay day at Attica Raceway Park Saturday, Sept. 2 for the 2nd Annual Dirt Classic Ohio with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions to close the track’s 30th season.
It was the second All Star win of the year for the “Brownsburg Bullet” and the 73rd of his career with the series, putting him third in all-time feature victories with “America’s Series.” Of those 73 All Star wins, five have now come at Attica Raceway Park where Saldana has a total of seven career victories.
Saldana, aboard the Bernie Stuebgen owned Indy Race Parts #71, tested Duncan on a restart with 10 laps to go, trying a slider that Duncan was able to hold off. When fourth running Brady Bacon spun with four laps to go, Saldana made his move, diving to Duncan’s inside once again and making it stick.
“The biggest thing with Cole is he has a really good car and he’s got a great dad teaching him how to race. That’s where I was a few years ago with my dad just trying to make it in racing. Getting these big shows is what it’s all about but Cole drove a hell of a race. He did a great job. It wasn’t that he did anything wrong, I just figured out how to back my corner on the restart just a little bit and then just got a run on him. We had a really good race early on. We banged wheels a little bit but good clean racing and got lucky we got a restart with four to go and it gave us a shot at it,” Saldana said.
“I can’t thank Betsy and Bernie with Indy Race Parts enough for giving me the opportunity to race these cars. They’re so expensive to do and be competitive. You can race but to be competitive it’s a different story. They definitely give me a car that’s competitive to win every night. It was a great night for us,” added Saldana
For Lockborne, Ohio’s Cole Duncan, who led the first 36 laps, it was yet another victory at Attica that slipped through his fingers.
“This win at Attica just keeps eluding us. Congrats to Joey and their team. They’ve been a rocket since Joey got there. The 71 car has always been fast but Joey takes it to another level and that’s hard to beat. Our night started out hectic. We had a mag-generator kind of take a dump on us so we didn’t get to hot lap…the first laps we saw were the two for qualifying but we put ourselves in a good position there. We weren’t great in the first heat but we were good in the second heat and passed a bunch of cars and got high point guy. That says something about our team and our car…we were able to overcome and sit on the pole for something that pays points is pretty cool. We led a lot of laps but not the most important ones,” said a dejected Duncan.
“I can’t thank all my guys enough…Helms Construction, Motorcity Auto Transport, EcoMend, Wolfden Products, Scott Gressman at Gressman Powersports…he’s been great, FK Rod Ends and Ohio Heating…Sheldon and his family is here so it’s good to put a good show on for them. But, this sucks. The restarts were killing me. I was getting away with doing pretty close the same thing every time. He cleared me once and I knew where I screwed up on that so I kept doing what I was doing…you know leading the whole race and not having mirrors to see what’s behind you…I would feel worse if I’d done something different and got beat than to keep doing what I was doing and lead laps and get beat. I guess getting beat by Joey isn’t a horrible day but it would have been nice to take home that one,” Duncan added.
Republic, Ohio’s Cap Henry brought the small Lane Racing Team car to a third place finish.
“These guys have been awesome all year. They were the first ones to give me another opportunity this year and I can’t thank them enough. We were really good but I’ll take it. It was a fun race and I can’t thank the Lanes enough and FK Rod Ends, J&J Auto Racing, Kistler Engines, Wings Unlimited…everyone who helps out,” he said.
The All Stars also made up their rained out A-main from the Ohio Sprint Speedweek from June 16 as the first event of Kistler Engines Night. That too came down to a late race restart after Travis Philo led the first 30 laps. Friday night’s Attica winner Tim Shaffer and Chad Kemenah battled with Philo following a caution with six laps to go with Shaffer gaining the lead on lap 31 and driving to his 60th All Star victory, six of which have now come at Attica. It was Shaffer’s third win of the year at Attica and 16th of his career at the track. It was also Shaffer’s third speedweek victory earning him an additional $3,000 bonus from Cometic Gasket making it a total payday of $8,000.
“Hats off to Jeff Rudzik and Joe Demyan. What a great car and Cody (Jacobs) had this thing awesome again tonight. It was operating any where I wanted to go. It had to be a heck of a race to watch. I got under him (Philo) a couple of times and I got him to move and I figured I could zing him on the top. I went up and got in the dirty air and pushed real bad and Kemenah stuck in there and almost got both of us. It made for a great race and a lot of fun. I think we hurt the engine…I lost oil pressure there with six laps to go. We have another one…it’s wore out. This engine has 16 or 17 nights on it…it’s been pretty good to us,” Shaffer said.
The final race of the night – the 305 sprint A-main – also came down to a late race restart with Sandusky, Ohio’s Kyle Capodice passing rookie Chase Dunham with three laps to go to get his first win of the year and the third of his career at Attica.
“It took all year but we finally got a win. It was good close, hard racing. I knew I had to move up because Chase was pretty stout up top so I moved off the bottom up a groove and it made all the difference in the world. I want to thank my dad most of all…without him none of this would be possible. He’s in the shop day in and day out. Tyler Crump was helping us out tonight and my girlfriend Kiley. I want to thank Joe and Fran Darmofal, Franklin Sanitation, Fred Wolfe Auctioneer, Burns Electric, Greber Racing Components,” said Capodice.
In the 35-lap All Star make-up feature Philo and Cale Conley brought the field to green with Philo gaining the advantage. Philo set a blistering pace, driving away from the field and into lapped traffic by the sixth circuit with Conley, Cale Thomas, Shaffer, Kemenah, Lee Jacobs and Rob Chaney giving chase. With 10 laps scored the leaders encountered heavy lapped traffic which Shaffer used to take second
Continuing to race through lapped machines, Philo’s lead began to disappear and with 15 laps to go Shaffer was right on his rear bumper with Conley, Kemenah and Thomas battling hard for third. Philo and Shaffer raced side by side and nose to tail over the next nine laps until the only caution flew for a Craig Mintz spin with six to go. On the restart Kemenah dove under both Shaffer and Philo, sliding into second. On the next circuit Shaffer returned the favor, moving from third to first.
Shaffer then pulled away slightly as Kemenah and Philo battled for second. Philo would lose a tire on the final lap as Shaffer drove to the checkers over Kemenah, Conley, Chaney and Duncan.
For the 40 lap Dirt Classic Ohio event, Duncan and Saldana blasted into the lead with Henry, Carson Macedo, Sammy Swindell, Philo and DJ Foos giving chase. Duncan drove away as Saldana and Henry battled for second. Duncan encountered lapped traffic by lap seven but held a huge lead as Saldana, Henry and Macedo kept the crowd entertained in their fight for second. Macedo would flip on lap 14 which gave Duncan a clear track and out of heavy lapped traffic.
On the restart Saldana tried a slider in turns one and two but Duncan was able to hold him off. Once again Duncan began pulling away but a Justin Peck tip over at the half way mark kept the field close. Duncan got a much better restart this time and pulled way again from Saldana, Henry, Brady Bacon, Philo, Swindell and 20th starter Chris Andrews. With 15 laps to go Duncan held a commanding lead over Saldana, Henry, Bacon, Philo, Andrews and 22nd starter Shaffer.
Nothing changed in the top seven running order until there were four laps to go as Bacon spun while battling Henry for third. This time on the restart Saldana tried the slider again on Duncan and this time it stuck as he edged into the lead. Saldana pulled away for the victory over Duncan, Henry, Philo and Andrews.
Capodice and Dunham brought the field to green for the 25 lap 305 sprint A-main. A pair of cautions kept the event from getting underway but the third attempt saw Dunham jump into the lead over Capodice, Dustin Stroup, Steve Rando, Landon LaLonde and Kelsey Ivy. Dunham blasted away at the top cushion while Capodice inched closer on the bottom lap after lap. Following a caution on lap nine, Capodice attempt a run on the bottom for the lead but Dunham was just too strong on the cushion.
With 10 laps to go Capodice altered his line, moving up the track a groove and he started to close on Dunham. Capodice drove into the lead exiting turn two on lap 17 when Dunham bottled on the cushion. But, the caution came out putting Dunham back into the lead. On the green Dunham and Capodice side by side again for the top spot with Rando, John Ivy and Ricky Peterson giving chase.
The final caution on lap 20 gave Capodice his shot at Dunham and he pounced, driving to the leader’s inside several times before taking the lead with three to go. Capodice held off a hard charging Rando for the win with Dunham, John Ivy and Peterson rounding out the top five.

Daryn Pittman Surges Late for Thrilling Win at Skagit
Gravel earns KSE Hard Charger with second place run
Alger, WA - September 2, 2017 - Former World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Champion Daryn Pittman is hitting stride and that is not a good sign for the rest of the competition. A night after being collected in an accident going for the lead, Pittman convincingly charged forward late to pocket $12,000 in the Outlaw Energy Showdown at Skagit Speedway. David Gravel picked up KSE Hard Charger honors finishing second with Brad Sweet completing the podium.
In open air, Jason Johnson set a torrid pace. Timely caution flags helped Johnson led the first 34 laps before giving way to Pittman on the 35th circuit. The longer the race stayed under Green Flag conditions, the better Pittman was. Pittman's surge to the front happened in a matter of laps. With the top five cars under a blanket, Pittman surged from fourth to the lead in a span of six laps around the tight 3/10th racing surface.
"Man, I can't say enough about this Great Clips team. I messed up early and kept losing spots on those restarts," Pittman said upon exiting his Kasey Kahne Racing No.9 machine.
One of the biggest storylines of the 2017 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series was Pittman having no wins heading into the month of August. Now, Pittman has three wins - the most of any driver since August - to his credit. "I'm not sure I've ever had more fun driving this race car. It's fast every time it hits the track," a relieved Pittman said in a rare appearance racing in front of his friends and family.
Pittman excelled in turns three and four after getting a big run down the short backstretch. I saw Jason [Johnson] was struggling in traffic. When I got in opening in [turn] three and four, I took it and luckily it was good enough to hold on," the Owasso, OK native said about his race-winning pass.
As Pittman made his charge to the lead, Gravel was equally as fast coming from fifth to second in a span of three laps. By the time Gravel reached second on lap 38, Pittman had already extended a sizeable lead. "We were able to really charge at the end. First through sixth was a hell of a battle and a lot of fun as a race car driver. Just happy to end the race on a good note," Gravel said.
Brad Sweet and Johnson settled for third and fourth respectively with Donny Schatz completing the top five. Shane Stewart, Sheldon Haudenschild, Jason Sides, Paul McMahan and Logan Schuchart completed the all World of Outlaws regular top ten. There was an open red for a fuel leakage on lap 15 after Skagit 360 Sprint Car points leader Robbie Price had nowhere to go after Clyde Knipp and Jacob Allen got together battling. All three were uninjured in the accident.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series stays in Washington with an appearance at the Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma on Labor Day - Monday, September 4th.

Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Pockets $10,000 At The Jackson Motorplex!
JACKSON, Minn. (September 2, 2017) Parking his Hwy. 79 Collision No. 15h in Victory Lane for the 13th time in 2017 with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. came out on top of a torrid battle with Tim Kaeding for Saturday's $10,000 Fall Classic payday at the Jackson Motorplex.
"It just got a little dirty up where he [Tim Kaeding] was running and being the leader in that situation, he had it all to lose. It's hard because he ran a hell of a first half to this race. He drove a good race at the end too, just didn't know where the track was going and when you're running second, you can move around and that's what we were doing," said Hafertepe of the race with the Lunstra Motorsports No. 3.
With the first start called back, the restart went to Tim Kaeding who outran Matt Covington into the first two turns. Taking second from the T&L Foundry No. 95 through the third and fourth turns, Hafertepe focused his attention on running down the Dammer Trucking No. 3.
Slowed on Lap 10, the start was called off as Eric Lutz rolled to a stop. Single file to the green, the leaders hammered the cushion of the Jackson Motorplex to find traffic in only a couple of laps. Held up by slower traffic with a half straightaway advantage, the back bumper of Kaeding's No. 3 was directly in front of Hafertepe in a matter of seconds.
Using lapped cars as picks, the pair began trading slide jobs at both ends of the Jackson Motorplex with Kaeding holding the point at the start/finish line each time before the caution blinked on with 15 laps complete for Scott Winters who stopped on the front stretch. Slowed on Lap 17 for Lee Goos, the green flew with Hafertepe stuck to Tim Kaeding's back bumper.
Tracking Kaeding through the first and second turns, Hafertepe drove the middle groove into turn three. Trail braking the No. 15h up the track with a big head of steam, Hafertepe left little room for error as Kaeding's run on the cushion nearly ended on the wall as the No. 3 hopped the curb.
Nearly giving up second, but able to recover, Kaeding would have one last shot at Sam with a Lap 20 restart, but Sam Hafertepe, Jr. would not be denied his 28th career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour victory.
Tim Kaeding's runner-up finish was his sixth career podium finish with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour with Thomas Kennedy parking his No. 21k on the podium for the first time in his career. Racing back and forth with Matt Covington just over half of the race, then Seth Bergman through the final laps, Oklahoma's Wayne Johnson rolled to fourth from seventh with Seth Bergman holding on to finish fifth.
Matt Covington ended up second with Johnny Herrera in tow. Skylar Gee eighth was tailed by Lee Grosz and Blake Hahn to round out the top-ten after starting 16th.
A field of 33 drivers was on hand for the Jackson Motorplex Fall Classic. Four Heat Races were topped by Seth Bergman, Tim Kaeding, Thomas Kennedy, and Kaley Gharst. The night's B-Main was won by Scott Winters. One provisional was used by A.J. Moeller for BDS Motorsports. At the start of the night's racing program, the Jackson ASCS 360 Nationals was announced for Labor Day Weekend 2018. The dates are August 31, 2018, through September 2, 2018. More details on the event will be released as soon as they are finalized.
