Carson Macedo runs away at Lincoln Speedway; earns first-ever Arctic Cat All Star victory by nearly five seconds
LINCOLN, IL (June 9, 2017) - Lemoore, California’s Carson Macedo officially etched his name into the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions’ history books on Friday night at Lincoln (IL) Speedway, conquering the non-stop, 35-lap main event by nearly five seconds over Paul Nienhiser and Chad Kemenah, earning $5,000 in the process.
Macedo, who started second on the main event grid aboard the Lucas Oil/Weld Wheels/XYZ Machining/No. 3G, made it look effortless at the Lincoln, Illinois, quarter-mile; driving by pole sitter and current Arctic Cat All Star point leader Chad Kemenah on lap seven, ultimately cruising ahead to put 13 cars at least one lap behind, even maintaining his command during periods of heavy traffic. The Arctic Cat All Star victory was a first-ever for Carson Macedo, becoming just the second winner in Series history at Lincoln Speedway.
“A monkey could have driven this car tonight,” Carson Macedo said in victory lane. “This thing was incredible all night long; absolutely phenomenal to drive. I can’t thank everyone enough who makes this possible for me. To come out here and race with these guys and come out on top says so much. This is awesome.”
Alvada, Ohio’s Chad Kemenah set the early pace, leading the first six circuits ahead of local favorite Bret Tripplett and former King of the West champion Carson Macedo. Macedo moved into the runner-up position permanently on lap four, transferring his sights to the Hunter Racing/Seneca Energy/No. 10H. A two-lap battle with Kemenah soon turned into a takeover attempt for Macedo, eventually driving around the defending Arctic Cat All Star champion on the topside of the speedway.
While Macedo pulled away at the top of the running order, a battle for second would soon commence with Chad Kemenah, Ryan Smith and fourth row starter Paul Nienhiser all involved. By lap 27, Nienhiser solidified himself in the second position, surviving a two-lap, side-by-side battle with Kemenah. By the time the Chapin, Illinois, native started to close the gap on Macedo, time was already out.
“Our goal is to repeat tomorrow night at Macon Speedway,” Macedo explained. “This is a great team; Joe (Gaerte), Tim and Cindy Norman. I can't thank them all enough for this opportunity.”
With race-to-race travel time a mere 45 minutes, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their weekend road trip through the Midwest with a Saturday night visit to the Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois; the self-proclaimed “World’s Fastest 1/5-Mile Clay Oval.” Despite its Central Illinois locale, the smallest oval on the 2017 Arctic Cat All Star schedule has hosted “America’s Series” on seven separate occasions since 1981, the most recent in 2004. Greg Wilson, a former Arctic Cat All Star Series champion, is the last to visit Macon Speedway victory lane during Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions competition.
Macon Speedway will open pit gates at 3:00pm on Saturday, June 10. General admission gates are scheduled to open to the public at 4:00pm, with racing to hit center stage at 7:00pm, sharp. Those seeking additional information, such as reserved seat information and ticket prices, should visit Macon Speedway live on the Web at www.maconracing.com.

The All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series is one of the oldest traveling 410 sprint car organizations and is a staple of grassroots, open-wheel racing. Formed in 1970 by Bud Miller, the series has largely been considered the first 'outlaw' Sprint Car organization of the modern era. After a 10 year stint as owner of the All Stars, Miller passed control of the series to Bert Emick in 1980; a reign that would continue through 2002. Guy Webb then purchased the series from Emick in the summer of 2002 and served as the series President for the next 12 years. Motorsports entrepreneur Tony Stewart agreed to terms with Guy Webb to become the sole owner of the original winged sprint car tour in January of 2015.

Sweet Battles Rubber to Take Night One at Knoxville
KNOXVILLE, IA - June 9, 2017 - Kasey Kahne Racing driver Brad Sweet scored his second consecutive win (after last week's Jackson Nationals win), second Knoxville Raceway career win, and fourth win of the season during Night One of the Brownells Big Guns Bash at Knoxville Raceway, leading all 25 laps of the Feature from green to checkers after starting on the pole.
The battle between the Outlaws and Team Knoxville began with one of each in the front row - Sweet and Brian Brown. But the unexpected challenger appeared in the form of rubber about 15 laps into the race.
"It's good to be out front when the rubber went down there. I just had to search around," said Sweet. "I made a lot of mistakes there, and honestly, we have a little bit of work to do. We were better earlier in the night and weren't that great right there, for whatever reason, but obviously good enough to hold off Donny and David Gravel. So we must have been pretty good."
Sweet quickly shot to the lead at the start of the race, leaving the battle behind him as first David Gravel and then Shane Stewart fought past Brown, exchanging slide jobs for third.
By Lap 4, Donny Schatz was in on the action, making an outside pass on Brown for fourth. But he didn't stop there. Ten laps in, Schatz sailed past Stewart, after which he began making his play for second. But Gravel wasn't having it.
With ten laps to go, Gravel closed in on Sweet, but the rubber got the better of him.
"I was just conserving my tires there," said Gravel. "Once it took rubber I knew that I didn't really have a shot. I would have liked to have seen if that didn't take rubber. I think it would have been a really good race. I thought I was gaining on [Sweet] and then kind of started taking rubber. We did the best we could tonight."
A few laps later, with seven to go, Gravel was having to fend off Schatz just to hold onto second.
"Actually, I think our car got really good there in the rubber," said Schatz. "At that point you have nothing to hold back on if you're going to try to win the race. They weren't going to make that big a mistake, but we were trying. We were trying to get around [Gravel] and just couldn't make it happen."
Despite the rubbered up top groove, the Outlaws beat out Team Knoxville in Night One, taking all three podium spots with Sweet at the helm, followed by Gravel and Schatz. Knoxville regulars Kerry Madsen and Brian Brown came in fifth and sixth respectively, followed by Hard Charger Ian Madsen, who worked his way up from 13. Last year's Knoxville Nationals Champion Jason Johnson followed I. Madsen in eighth.
The action continues Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway.

GRANT GOES WIRE-TO-WIRE IN USAC SPRINTS' RETURN TO KNOXVILLE
By: Richie Murray - USAC Media
Knoxville, Iowa.........In one of the most highly-anticipated events on the 2017 USAC calendar, Justin Grant made it a night to remember as he led wire-to-wire to win the AMSOIL National Sprint Cars' return to the famed Knoxville Raceway Saturday night after a six-year hiatus.
Grant, of Ione, California, finished 25th in his lone Knoxville start back in 2011, but there'd be no parallels drawn from that result to his performance on the half-mile Saturday night as he was in a class of his own throughout the 30-lap main event.
However, early on in the night, Grant couldn't have anticipated the end result would go as smoothly as it did following a rocky beginning. The team fine-tuned their way throughout the evening, swapping out parts and pieces on the Sam McGhee Motorsports/Mike McGhee & Associates - Brown & Miller Racing Solutions/Maxim/Foxco until they hit the sweet spot in time for the main event.
"In hot laps, I wasn't very comfortable," Grant stated. "I was a little timid on the cushion and I didn't really feel all that confident that I wasn't going to crash up there. So, we just kept working on it all night. We kept making ground on it. We came in from the heat race and felt like we were pretty close and told Sam about a couple of the issues I had with it. He went to work on it and got it dialed-in. It couldn't have been any better for the feature."
Grant's race began from the pole position alongside Robert Ballou, a recent returnee to the scene following an eight-month layoff due to neck injuries. Yet, Grant would get the best of Ballou right from the start as he slid up to the cushion ahead of Ballou in turn one for the top spot.
Grant built a gap between he and Ballou on the opening lap as Ballou battled with Friday night's I-80 Speedway winner Tyler Courtney. At the exit of the fourth corner, Courtney and Ballou made slight contact, sending Ballou sideways and Courtney near the outside guardrail. Both continued after the brief skirmish as Ballou maintained control of second while Courtney fell back to fourth as he wrestled back control of his machine.
Shortly thereafter as the field hit the back straight, a melee ensued as the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th place cars were all involved in an accident that saw both Jon Stanbrough and Nick Bilbee flip multiple times while Brady Bacon and Hunter Schuerenberg were also caught up. All drivers would walk away unscathed and Bacon and Schuerenberg would restart.
On the lap two restart, Courtney nearly saw his race end as he biked his ride on the entry to turn one before landing on all fours, ricocheting his right rear tire off the guardrail before gathering it up and carrying on after dropping three spots to seventh.
Meanwhile, up front, Grant had constructed a half-straightaway interval on lap six between he and second-running Ballou, who owned a half-straightaway advantage of his own over third-running Courtney who had settled into a groove and worked his way back into the top-three with a first turn slide job of Chad Boespflug.
Just before midway, Grant had already begun his ascent into lap traffic, attempting to maintain his sturdy two-plus second lead as Courtney began to close on Ballou for second. Courtney had already averted disaster just laps before, but on lap 15, he couldn't channel his inner Houdini for a second time as he hooked the turn two cushion while closing in on the lapped car of Aaron Farney.
Courtney proceeded to snag the berm with his right rear, the proceeded with a violent sequence of barrel-rolls and nose-to-tail end-overs that saw him sail higher than the top portion of the expansive ARMCO barrier in front of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame suites. After roughly six-and-a-half bone-jarring flips, Courtney finally came to a rest as flame briefly appeared from the bottom of the battered machinery. A sigh of relief swept over the crowd as the Indianapolis, Indiana driver quickly emerged from the wreckage uninjured.
A strong suit for Grant each time was his prowess on restarts. Right from the drop of the green time-and-time again, the 26-year-old instantly distanced himself from Ballou, but that didn't inherently put Grant's mind at ease with the 2015 series champ hot on his trail.
"Restarts are always scary, especially at a big racetrack where you're running on the fence and you're prone to receiving sliders on a restart," Grant admits. "I just tried to get a really big bite off turn four and stay in the moisture as long as I could. I tried not to mess up and just wanted to get down into turn one as fast as I could. I was confident in the car, but you're still a little bit nervous especially when you have a hard charger like Ballou behind you. If he has a window, he's going to throw something in it."
The final yellow of the night arrived when Dave Darland, who was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame just hours before, hopped to a stop atop the turn two cushion without making contact on the 18th lap.
Grant's final restart on lap 19 was just as solid as the rest and, over the next handful of laps, Grant increased the interval each time at the stripe as he firmly established his position at the head of the pack. All that was left for Grant was to navigate through the tail end of the field in the closing laps.
The sailing was smooth for Grant the remainder of the way as he cruised to a 1.2 second victory over Ballou, Boespflug, Chase Stockon and C.J. Leary for his season-leading fourth series victory of the year while extending his point lead to 97 over Windom heading into Eastern Storm.
After 137 starts between 2010 and September of 2016, Grant's USAC National Sprint Car win total stood at three. In the last eight months with Sam McGhee Motorsports, Grant has already picked up five victories in a mere 17 starts. Additionally, in ten 2017 starts, Grant has yet to finish outside the top-four.
With success seeming to come so naturally, so quickly, to Grant and McGhee, it's easy to rest on your laurels, but Grant feels that there's always room to make improvements.
"You try to pick out the spots where you could've been better or where you think you could've made up a little more ground or where you could've made less mistakes," Grant explains. "It may have looked perfect, but there's a handful of mistakes I made throughout it. If somebody had as good of a car as we had, they could've capitalized on it. As a driver, you catalogue those and make sure not to do certain things the next time. Fortunately, tonight, we had a car that was good enough that nobody could even get near it. But in the future, somebody might. I try to work on minimizing mistakes and I go back and watch the video to see what I did right and what I did wrong. We always strive try to keep plugging away and get better every night. Yet, at the same time, you want to stay the course and not start chasing something that gets you off track."
By all accounts, USAC's return to Knoxville was a rousing success with the track's largest crowd of the year on hand. It's an atmosphere that Grant craves and eagerly anticipates experiencing regularly for years to come.
"It's so cool to race at this venue with all its history and the huge crowd of people in the stands," Grant praises. "Everybody comes down to the front stretch after the race. It's just a really neat atmosphere. I couldn't believe the number of people who came down and told me they'd never seen a non-wing race. They said they just loved it and how they're going to come back for more and how much they want us to come back next year. We want to come back! It's the sprint car capital of the world and we want to be racing here."
Ballou earned his third-straight top-four finish since his comeback in mid-May, picking up a solid runner-up finish in his Ballou Motorsports/Rossie's Feed & Grain - Deaton's Waterfront Services/Eagle/Ott. However, the Rocklin, California native is not exactly satisfied with his run as he expects to be at the forefront night-in, night-out.
"We got beat fair and square tonight," Ballou said. "Justin ran 30 perfect laps and we pretty much (struggled) all night compared to where I feel we should be. I'm rusty and I'm trying to get this team back going. We need some sort of a jump start or something. Justin and the McGhees are on top of their game and we're just trying to figure our car out. I'm picky, though. If it's not comfortable, we might as well sit at home and watch from the couch. It wasn't very good all tonight, but we kept trying and trying and we thought we stumbled on something for the feature. It was terrible from the drop of the green. I'm just glad that we're second because it felt like I had about a 10th place car. It's been a tough road, but just to race again is a blessing. I just have to go do my homework."
After a recent struggle that saw three-straight finishes of 11th or worse, Hanford, California's Chad Boespflug got back on track with a third-place run in his Dynamics, Inc./Mean Green - PAC Springs/Maxim/Claxton.
"We've been struggling the last few weeks," Boespflug recalls. "To get back on the podium tonight after the way we've run the last few nights is pretty amazing. We made some strides tonight and I think we found some things. Hopefully, we can carry this momentum into Eastern Storm. We have to get a lot better to catch up with Justin. It was my first time here at Knoxville. Maybe next year we can do a two-day show. I'd definitely be down for that."
Contingency award winners Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway include Kevin Thomas, Jr. (ProSource Fast Qualifier), Josh Hodges (Simpson Race Products First Heat Winner), Chris Windom (Competition Suspension, Inc. Second Heat Winner), Tyler Courtney (Chalk Stix Third Heat Winner), Brady Bacon (Indy Race Parts Fourth Heat Winner), Chris Windom (KSE Racing Products Hard Charger) and Stevie Sussex (Wilwood Brakes 13th Place Finisher).

Brad Sweet Wins The War
Scores $25,000 With Victory at the 39th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals
By Tony Veneziano
JACKSON, MN. - June 3, 2017 - Brad Sweet looked at the first two nights of the 39th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals for the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series at Jackson Motorplex as battles that would ultimately put him in position to win the war. He did exactly that on Saturday night to the tune of $25,000, adding his name to the illustrious list of past winners of the tradition-laden event.
For Sweet, it was his third win of the season and second on a half-mile. Sweet now has 23 career World of Outlaws Feature wins, which ties him for 19th on the Series' all-time win list with fellow competitors David Gravel and Shane Stewart, who also both finished in the top-five on Saturday night.
"It feels awesome to win the Jackson Nationals," said Sweet. "We're just ecstatic. I can't thank Tod Quiring and all the guys enough for taking a chance and putting on a three-day show that pays big money like this. It's a breath of fresh air and great to race for that kind of money. Hopefully the fans saw a good show."
Sweet lined up second for the 30-lap main event and challenged pole sitter Kerry Madsen in the early going. Sweet hung with Madsen for a number of laps, especially in lapped traffic, mainly while working the bottom lane of the track.
Just before the halfway point of the race, Donny Schatz got by Sweet for second, with the latter getting back by a couple of laps later. Sweet took the lead from Kerry Madsen on the back straightaway on lap 18 and led the remainder of the race. He did have to withstand a pair of restarts with 11 laps remaining. The first was a double-file restart and the second single-file. Strong restarts each time propelled him to a solid lead over Madsen.
"I was in attack mode the whole time," noted Sweet. "I was a little frustrated with myself. When I got behind Kerry (Madsen) I made a few mistakes and let Donny (Schatz) get by me. Usually you don't get that back. Then I was able to get by both of them. Once I was able to get in control of the race, I knew I was in good shape and just tried not to screw it up. I almost messed up a few times and didn't know how big of a lead we had, but I drove as hard I could those last 11 laps."
Madsen, who finished no worse than second on any of the three nights of the 39th Annual AGCO Jackson Nationals led the first 17 laps from the pole. Lapped traffic ended up being his Achille's heel, as Sweet got by him in traffic for the lead. Late in the race, Madsen was able to close back in on Sweet, using the top side of the half-mile.
"There were some classless people getting lapped and trying to take the leader out when they were getting lapped, but that's no excuse," said Madsen. "Brad (Sweet) probably deserved to win. We had a great car all weekend and to finish second, first and second is great. I'm really proud of the guys and the AGCO/Go Muddy car was a rocketship all week."
David Gravel won a heat race on Saturday night to earn a spot in the Craftsman Club Dash, where he finished eighth. Lining up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event, Gravel steadily worked his way to the front. Gravel took third at one point from Donny Schatz, only to have the caution flag fly before that lap was completed. He would again get by the eight-time and defending series champion to come home on the podium.
"It was good to end the weekend on the right note," said Gravel. "We kind of struggled all weekend and it took us a while to get the hang of it, but we got there. We're happy to finish on the podium. You want to win this race, but we dug ourselves a bit of a hole there. Third was the best we could do. The track was really fast and we needed lapped traffic and was just about to get to it at the end. Good job to Brad (Sweet) and Kerry (Madsen). They had the fastest cars all weekend and deserved to be up here."
Shane Stewart finished fourth, with Schatz in fifth and Joey Saldana crossing the line sixth. Daryn Pittman was seventh, followed by Mark Dobmeier in eighth, Ian Madsen in ninth and Logan Schuchart in 10th.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series will next be in action on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10 at Iowa's famed Knoxville Raceway.

COURTNEY CASHES IN AT MALVERN BANK I-80 DIRT CLASSIC
By: Richie Murray - USAC Media
Greenwood, Nebraska June 2, 2017 -.....Tyler Courtney withstood a relentless Chris Windom assault during the final two laps of Friday night's Malvern Bank "I-80 Dirt Classic" to earn his second career USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car victory in the series' inaugural appearance at I-80 Speedway.
Windom was on point for the first two-thirds of the 30-lapper, but Courtney used a lap 20 turn one slider to rip by the defending Silver Crown champ for the race lead, then took Windom's repetitious haymakers in stride down the stretch, answering each successive punch with a knockout blow of his own.
Running along the razor's edge requires a certain finesse to reach maximum success. On this night, Courtney had to juggle patience and urgency. The Indianapolis, Indiana native had to start seventh, but Courtney anticipated the track taking rubber and felt he had to get up on the wheel of his TOPP Motorsports/TOPP Performance Race Parts - Custom Pump & Controls/Maxim/Claxton and bring it to the front as soon as the green dropped. Yet, the dilemma in a 30-lap sprint is that running too hard can create significant tire wear, making a hard-charging effort all for naught.
"We knew the track had a pretty good chance of taking rubber," Courtney admits. "I knew once I got to about third or fourth, I had to really start going. But I didn't want to use up my tires just in case it was going to take rubber. We were searching for a happy medium, but we played our cards right and came out on top. I'll take it any way I can get it."
Windom, though, was the master of the 4/10-mile dirt oval when racing commenced, sliding in front of polesitter Chad Boespflug in the first turn to take the lead on the opening lap. Soon thereafter, ProSource Fast Qualifier Stevie Sussex made a charge to the front and a bid for the lead on lap six that came up short, but soon fell into line behind Windom in a four-car breakaway freight train that also included Grant and Courtney in third and fourth, respectively.
The surface was wide and slick, allowing slide jobs to be thrown at will from anywhere and everywhere. After fifth-running Chase Stockon slowed with a bent draglink on the tenth lap to bring out the caution, Courtney took the message to heart, immediately blasting by Grant for third into turn one on the restart. A lap later, Courtney went to the well one more time in the same spot, sliding past Sussex for the runner-up spot.
As the top became rubber down, it became a single-file procession up top, but it opened the door for sliders for days coming in from all corners as it became the most preferred way to advance.
On the 20th revolution around the oval, Courtney took Windom's spot away up front with another perfect turn one slider. On the following circuit, Courtney slid the lapped car of Nebraska's Terry Richards in one to separate himself from Windom and gain an unobstructed view of the track ahead with just a handful of laps remaining.
"I screwed up down there in (turns) one and two and I didn't expect it to work out, but I got over the cushion and turned down the hill," Courtney recalled. "I slid a couple guys and got to Windom right before the caution. We got all bunched up; I ran behind Grant and Sussex for a little bit and while they were sliding each other, I was able to get by them. We got to lapped traffic, then I used one of them as a pick and slid Chris. I could tell the track was starting to take rubber, so I had to get by him quickly. Luckily, I was at the right place at the right time."
In the moments leading up to Corey Smith's spin on lap 25 that brought about the night's final yellow, Windom began to find his way back toward Courtney. On the ensuing restart, everyone anticipated Windom to be the aggressor and reclaim his spot up front. Instead, Grant was able to slide by Windom on the restart to momentarily take over second, though Windom countered immediately to move back to second.
Windom pounced on his second opportunity and was right on Courtney's tail for the final two-lap shootout. On the 29th lap, Windom took the first swing at Courtney, pulling ahead between turns one and two. Courtney kept his foot on the throttle and escaped around the outside of Windom with mere inches to spare to retain the lead.
Windom came back twice more on the final lap with a turn one slider to no avail and one last final run at him going into turn three, but each time, Courtney successfully countered with a left hook of his own, turning down the hill off turn four to cut underneath Windom and hang on for the victory by 0.184 of a second. Windom took second ahead of Grant, KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Robert Ballou and CRA/West Coast Sprint regular Brody Roa rounding out the top-five.
Patience and urgency reared its head again in the final laps for Courtney as he went face-to-face with the split-second decision on when to lay off the throttle, at what point to turn down in the corner and when to get back on the gas without being slow enough to lose the position or being too fast that he'd blister the tires.
"You lift a little bit, but you can't get too far out of it because you can unload your car and slip out of the rubber," Courtney explains. "It's back to the happy medium thing. You have to run it hard, but not too hard. Everything fell into place tonight. We had a rough start, but we've really got it clicking here the last few races."
"I knew he was going to be throwing (sliders)," Courtney adds. "It's tough when it's one lane like that, when you're sliding through the dirty stuff and it's kind of hard to get it stopped in the rubber. I'm sure Chris was having to throw them from pretty far back. It's just hard to get slowed down. If I was expecting it, I could whoa it down and make sure I didn't miss the rubber and make sure I got it coming off the corner. He tried those last two laps and, on the last lap, he tried it over in (turns) three and four. I would've done the same thing. Luckily, he blew through it every time and we were able to stay in it and get to the checker first."
Chris Windom of Canton, Illinois led the first 19 laps of Friday night's feature, ultimately taking his second-straight runner-up finish in his Baldwin Brothers Racing/Fox Paving - AMSOIL/DRC/Claxton Mopar.
"When you're leading a race like that and the rubber keeps moving down, you're a sitting duck unless you happen to find it first," Windom explains. "Tyler just found it a little quicker than me and got by us. You replay the race a thousand times in your head and what you could've done differently. I felt like I was running a pretty consistent race, but he got to the rubber a little quicker than I did. I think we were better than him at the end, but I threw a few haymakers at him and he had enough to cross us back over."
"You're still under control until you're about to hit the rubber again, then you don't know if you're going to slide through it," Windom continued. "It's such a hard place to throw a slide job. If you're throwing it back to the rubber, you've got to slow way down to stick the rubber. I tried as hard as I could to slow down enough, but we slid through it just enough for Tyler squeeze back under us and cross us over. We threw all we could at him."
Ione, California's Justin Grant extended his run of top-four finishes to nine in USAC National Sprint Car competition in 2017, taking third in his Sam McGhee Motorsports/Mike McGhee & Associates - Brown & Miller Racing Solutions/Maxim/Foxco.
"The patience involved is in waiting for a guy to hit the cushion and get tight against it coming off or missing it a little bit," Grant said. "You have to follow a guy until he bobbles, then when he bobbles, you take your shot then. You just kind of bide your time and wait for a guy to mess up. Everybody gets so fast later on the curb; you've got to wait for a mistake to capitalize."
"I got on the jersey barrier down the back stretch," Grant starts. "I don't know what my deal was. I got up on that jersey barrier and I couldn't get the thing turned off it until too late. When it did turn, the right rear was up on the wall and it slammed down into the cushion and then it bicycled and kind of rode on the right front before setting down and flat-wheeling the fence. I'm pretty fortunate. I thought I was going to turn over."

Logan Wagner holds off Danny Holtgraver for first-ever Arctic Cat All Star win at Lernerville Speedway
SARVER, PA (June 2, 2017) - For the first time in his young career, Logan Wagner is a main event winner with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, this time holding off a former Lernerville Speedway track champion, as well as the defending Arctic Cat All Star champion, for a $5,000 top prize. The Harrisonville, Pennsylvania, native started from the pole position and led all 30 circuits on Friday evening, June 2, at Lernerville Speedway, crossing under the final checkers nearly three seconds ahead of the competition. “Downtown” Danny Holtgraver crossed under the flagstand behind Wagner, followed by Chad Kemenah, Cole Duncan and Tim Shaffer.
“I can’t even put tonight into words,” Logan Wagner explained in Lernerville Speedway victory lane. “I gotta thank everyone that helps me out. My dad, especially, who does so much for me and my career. I didn’t think I was really that good tonight, but I was good enough to win and that is all that matters. This is amazing.”
Wagner took command at the drop of the initial green flag and immediately opened his advantage, stretching his lead to nearly two seconds by lap 10, ultimately pushing that margin to nearly three seconds during other segments of the main event.
A total of four cautions, three during the first 11 circuits, halted feature competition during the 30-lapper, and despite all four creating the potential for a takeover attempt, the clean air and open race track proved to be nothing more than an advantage for Logan Wagner. Even when traffic came into play during the midpoint of the main event, as well as during the last six circuits, Wagner’s preferred line around the thin, top edge of the speedway allowed for the most momentum.
“I just knew I had to run [turn one] the best that I could without getting up over the edge,” Wagner said in victory lane. “I know I went over the backstretch three or four times tonight. I was really tight through turns three and four, so I had to muscle my way around there. But I was able to really capitalize in turns one and two.”
Danny Holtgraver, Ryan Smith, Chad Kemenah and Cole Duncan each made their presence known with heated battles for the remaining positions inside the top-five. Holtgraver, the main event’s seventh starter who was making his first Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions appearance of the season, solidified the runner-up position on lap 21, ending a near-ten lap battle with Hunter Racing's Chad Kemenah.
“It feels good to be back in a sprint car,” Danny Holtgraver explained. “We haven’t raced that much this year, but when we do plan to race, we plan to have fun and work for results like this. Tonight was a lot of fun.”
The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their short swing through Western Pennsylvania with a visit to Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday evening, June 3; the first and only appearance of the 2017 season, as well as the first visit in nearly two years.
“America's Series” last visited the Mercer County short track on July 4, 2015. The holiday program was the third of three appearances at the speedway that season, two of which during Independence Day weekend. The “Kunkletown Kid” Ryan Smith was the main event winner on July 4, with former Knoxville Nationals main event starter Lee Jacobs taking the checkers one night prior on Friday, July 3.
Mercer Raceway Park will open pit gates at 3:00pm on Saturday, June 3. A mandatory drivers meeting will be conducted at 5:30pm with hot laps to follow at 6:30pm, sharp. Fans and race teams should be reminded that camping is available at no cost. Those who would like to learn more should visit Mercer Raceway Park live on the Web at www.mercerracewaypark.com.

Second to None: Kerry Madsen Wins Night 2 of AGCO Jackson Nationals
By: Tony Veneziano
JACKSON, Minn. - June 2, 2017 - Kerry Madsen was part of a historic finish on the opening night of the 39th Annual AGCO Jackson Nationals for the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series at Jackson Motorplex, finishing second to his brother Ian, which made them the first-ever Australian-born brothers to finish 1-2 in an Outlaws race. K. Madsen felt as if he didn't get the job done, though on Thursday night. He made up for the near-miss on Friday night, leading flag-to-flag in the 25-lap main event to earn his first World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win of the season and the 20th of his career.
Madsen withstood a trio of yellow flags and one red flag period en route to the win. For the native of St. Marys, NSW, Australia, who now calls Knoxville, Iowa home, it was his second win of the season at Jackson Motorplex, which is owned by his car owner, Tod Quiring.
"The car was working everywhere until we lost the front wing, then we lost our front downforce," said Madsen. "I had to run not as hard as I wanted to going into (turn) one and gave up a lot of speed there. I just kept watching the front wing and it was still on so, I kept trying harder. I saw Kraig and thought, 'Oh no,' but I saw the lapped traffic and knew if I could get to the outside of the lapped traffic it would block the lane and I would be okay. I was just hanging on at the end and it was a handful in (turn) one and two. It was great to get the job done tonight."
Madsen, who entered the night as the overall event point leader, put himself in a very solid position to go for a repeat in the AGCO Jackson Nationals, which he won for the first time last season.
"This track is all about being in the right place and being in the right line," explained Madsen. "You can't just stick to a line. You have to constantly search and keeping your eye out. It's going to take 30 good laps to be in contention again tomorrow."
Madsen started on the pole Friday night and jumped to an early lead, when the red flag flew for his brother, getting upside in turns three and four on the opening lap. On the complete restart, K. Madsen again jumped to a lead, with Jason Johnson in second. Johnson tried a huge slide job, going for the lead on the lap-5 and spun, which brought out the caution. Madsen chose the low side of the track each time on double file restarts, with Kraig Kinser lining on the outside and was able to open a quick gap each time.
Kinser was able to pull alongside Madsen coming off turn four with five laps to go, but the latter was able to pull away on the front straightaway to retain the lead. Kinser, who started sixth, earned his best World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series finish of the season in second.
"I was trying to follow him and stay as close as I could in (turns) one and two," said Kinser. "He was pretty good in one and two and always kept a little gap. The closer I got to him the worse the handling got, going through those bumps. I had a couple of chances at him, but he kept motoring around. The little bit I could gain in (turns) three and four he just motored down the straightaway and kept it nice and straight. It was tough and I was going to need some help. I saw traffic down low and knew I probably wasn't going to get him."
Brad Sweet finished third for the second straight night. After having trouble in the dash, he lined up eighth and found himself in third by the fifth lap of the race. He was able to gain some ground on Kinser in the middle stages of the race, but in the late going fell back a bit.
"We just have to keep working on it," said Sweet. "Kerry (Madsen) is fast. We had that problem in the dash and that set us back. It's nice to come from eighth to third. We got to third pretty quick and I thought we may have something for those guys. My car just didn't feel as good those last few laps. We'll take some good notes tonight and the big night is tomorrow night. I think we are in a good position and have had a solid two nights and should be in the top-four in points. We'll come back tomorrow night"
Donny Schatz finished fourth for the second consecutive night, with Jason Sides rounding out the top-five. Daryn Pittman crossed the line sixth, followed by Shane Stewart in seventh. Stewart, who started 20th picked up the KSE Hard Charger Award. David Gravel was eighth, with Joey Saldana ninth and Johnson rebounding from the early spin to charge back through the field to finish 10th.
