Schuchart Shines Bright in Charlotte
Schuchart wins third Outlaws race of 2017
CONCORD, N.C. - May 26, 2017 - After starting in the third position for the Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the 30-lap Feature event, Logan Schuchart had a scare just before the half-way mark of the race. When Schuchart he attempted a slide job on the leader Brad Sweet, he overshot the attempt, forcing him up to the wall. Still managing to continue on, Schuchart would get another opportunity as the field came to the white flag, Schuchart would slip by Sweet for the lead. The driver of the No. 1s machine would round the final circuit of the 4/10-mile clay-oval en route to his third win of the 2017 World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series season.
Earlier this week, the Shark Racing team of Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen put out a cry for help on social media for the second time this season looking for a way to get their two-car operation to the racetrack. After getting help from the racing industry friends, the two-car team showed up at New Egypt Speedway just as the Heats were getting underway. Schuchart would eventually qualify for the Feature event through the Last Chance Showdown and go on to finish 12th from the 24th-starting spot.
"We got a lot of people that stand behind us and that put these racecars on the track," said Logan Schuchart. "I just have a lot to be thankful for just to be in this position, [to] race in Charlotte and with the World of Outlaws."
Fast forward three-days and the No. 1s of Logan Schuchart not only made it to Charlotte (thanks to the help from their newly-repaired toterhome) but he and the Shark Racing team ended the night by standing in Victory Lane, grabbing his third win of the 2017 season.
When the field got the green flag for the 30-lap Feature at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway, it was the Brad Sweet show looking to cap off the sweep, having won quick time, his Heat race and the Craftsman Club Dash. Rocketing out to a big lead, Sweet worked the top-groove as he caught the tail end of the 24-car field.
Schuchart would had started third in the Feature event threw a slide job in turns three and four on Kraig Kinser for second place as the field came to complete lap five. Schuchart would set his sights on the No. 49 NAPA Auto Parts entry of Sweet as they both picked their way through lap traffic. On lap 11, Schuchart attempted another slide job that failed to stick, causing him to tag the outside turn two wall.
"I thought we had a chance at Brad [Sweet] earlier in the race and I tried to slide him but my throttle stuck and ran me way too far into the corner," said Logan Schuchart. "We actually got into the wall and I think we bent a wheel."
Still able to continue, Sweet opened up the gap over Schuchart as the laps ticked away.
The Hanover, PA-driver made one-final attempt at Sweet as the two exited turn four; Schuchart made this attempt stick and would hold off Sweet and Daryn Pittman for his third win of the season.
"Winning in Charlotte, North Carolina in front of all these fans, is what makes our sport," added Schuchart. "You fans in the stands is what make us come out and continue to do what we do, thank you," exclaimed Schuchart.
"Overall tonight was good for us," stated Brad Sweet who won quick time, his heat race and the Craftsman Club Dash. "I just got stuck behind those lap cars, that's where you win or lose these races. Hats off to that team; Logan drove a great race.
The 2016 Outlaw Showdown winner, Greg Wilson made up 10 position in the Outlaw Showdown Feature event to bring home another top-five at Charlotte and earn the KSE Hard Charger award.
Clyde Knipp had an impressive run at Charlotte, bringing his No. 13 machine home in 16th place, a career run for the California-MO driver.
Logan Schuchart's teammate, Jacob Allen gave Shark Racing two top-10 finishes on the evening by finishing in the ninth position.

Memorial Day weekend continues Sunday at Mansfield Motor Speedway

ATTICA, OH (May 26, 2017) - For the first time since 2013, and for the 11th time during his storied career, Monclova, Ohio’s Byron Reed is a main event winner with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, this time holding off Craig Mintz and DJ Foos at Attica Raceway Park to officially kick-off Memorial Day weekend. Reed, who started fifth on the feature grid, did not take command of the 40-lap program until lap 28, but swapped positions with Craig Mintz and Chris Andrews on multiple occasions until solidifying his place at the top of the running order. As an added note, it was Reed’s first Arctic Cat All Star victory at Attica Raceway Park since June 18, 2010, as well as his fifth overall.
“That’s what I love about Attica,” Reed explained in victory lane. “Especially when you get into these 40-lap races. I’m not sure I was the best car here tonight, but you just keep battling and battling and battling. Sometimes, things just go your way.”
Reed worked his way forward immediately, crossing under the flagstand for the first time fourth in the running order, ultimately moving ahead to take third on the following circuit. Three cautions before hitting double-digits on the lap counter kept the field stacked, allowing Reed and Craig Mintz, who was making his first start of the 2017 season, to race nose-to-tail with race leader Chris Andrews. Reed and Mintz continued to apply pressure on Andrews for the next 20 circuits, eventually intensifying as the trio of frontrunners reached the back of the field.
Despite Andrews scored as the leader during each of the initial takeover attempts, nearly a half-dozen lead changes would occur between laps 24 and 27, with Reed eventually coming out on top to officially lead lap 28. A final caution on lap 31 would stack the field one final time, but clean air and an open race track proved to be too beneficial Reed.
Mintz chased the familiar Crown Battery-backed No. 5 to the final checkers, followed by DJ Foos, Broc Martin and Stuart Brubaker. Andrews, who led the first 27 circuits before battling the remaining distance inside the top-three, slowed due to low fuel issues just before the finish and settled for seventh.
“I don’t know, but if nobody had fun watching that, then you need to find a different sport,” Craig Mintz explained, driver of the Ed Neumeister-owned No. 11N. “That was a great time tonight. Byron, Chris, DJ; those guys are all so much fun to race with and you can trust those guys. It’s fun, clean racing. When we all got into lap traffic, that was the most fun. That was probably the most fun I’ve had in a long time. I can’t thank Ed Neumeister enough for this opportunity. That whole crew really busted their butts tonight.”
“When you have the momentum, you do not want to let off,” Byron Reed said when discussing racing through traffic. “I’m sure you’ve heard the expression ‘my ass cheeks were starting to pucker.’ Things were getting pretty tight. I didn’t want to back off because I knew that was my chance; there was a small hole in traffic and I had to take it.”
Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions competition will continue on Sunday evening, May 28, with the inaugural Memorial Classic at Mansfield Motor Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio. The state-of-the-art complex, recently transitioning back to a dirt facility for the first time since asphalt covered the half-mile in 1999, will host the Tony Stewart-owned organization for the first time since 1988; the first and only Arctic Cat All Star appearance during the 2017 season. “The Mouse” Kenny Jacobs is the all-time leading Arctic Cat All Star winner at Mansfield Motor Speedway, earning three main event victories between 1984 and 1988.
Mansfield Motor Speedway will open pit gates at 2:00pm on Sunday afternoon, May 28. Spectator gates will swing open at 4:00pm, followed by hot laps and qualifying time trials at 6, sharp. After a 10 year stint as owner of the All Stars, Miller passed control of the series to Bert Emick in 1980; a reign that would continue through 2002. Guy Webb then purchased the series from Emick in the summer of 2002 and served as the series President for the next 12 years. Motorsports entrepreneur Tony Stewart agreed to terms with Guy Webb to become the sole owner of the original winged sprint car tour in January of 2015.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA (May 26, 2017) – Dirt track racing is Americana. Nothing speaks more to that statement than a Memorial Day holiday weekend and two nights of racing at Grandview Speedway.
The 1/3-mile dirt track in Bechtelsville, PA prepares for a double-header with their NASCAR racing program on Saturday, May 27, followed by the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill special event series kick-off on Sunday, May 28.
On Sunday, NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series presents the Triple Thunder Thriller presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings. The main event features the over 800 horsepower ground-shaking Big-Block Modifieds challenging the ultra-quick Small-Block Modifieds in a 40 lap duel to the finish, where a $5,000 jackpot waits in victory lane. The lucrative Modified kick-off event includes a $1,000 tenth place prize and $500 payday to start the feature.
With a special rules package, the region’s top Modified racers are expected to be in attendance. Hometown heroes like Craig Von Dohren, Jeff Strunk, Duane Howard and Doug Manmiller defend the Berks County oval against New Jersey invaders Billy Pauch Jr. and Ryan Godown. Young and hungry drivers like Danny Bouc, Jared Umbenhauer, and Ryan Krachun search for their first Thunder on the Hill Victory.

Along with an exciting Modified main event, the Sportsman will compete in a $1,300-to-win, 25-lap feature event; and the MASS Sprint Car Series debuts.
Helping to celebrate the Memorial Day Weekend will be a stunning firework display prior to the start of the main event.
The Pioneer Pole Buildings Mobile Sales Unit will be on display in the mid-way along with all of the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series mainstay promotions including the Low Down & Dirty Radio Show pre-race Meet and Greet, pit area tours, the Inside/Out Experience – where fans can watch hot laps from the infield, Joe ‘The Pizza Dude’ offering up free pizzas to the rowdiest fans, give-a-ways, and appearances by Miss Thunder on the Hill, Lauren Fischer.
Spectator gates will open at 5 PM, with racing action set for 7:30 PM. Adult General Admission is $25, Children 6-11 are $10, and Children 5 and Under are Free of Charge. Pit Area pricing is $35 and a license is not required.
Saturday’s program includes the TP Trailer NASCAR 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models, Sportsman and Blast form the Past vintage racers. Craig VonDohren leads the weekly championship standings heading into Saturday night action.
Adult admission for Saturday night racing is $15 while youngsters 11 and under being admitted free. Military personnel with proper ID are admitted FREE. Pit admission is $30 with a NASCAR license. Free parking is available on the speedway grounds.
Fans have the ability to camp out at the Speedway for the ultimate weekend experience. Campers are asked to park in the turn 4 parking area, there are no hook-ups available, and no box camping allowed. Track officials ask that all fires be contained. There is no fee for camping.

David Gravel Victorious at New Egypt Speedway Pittman's winning streak comes to an end

NEW EGYPT, N.J. - May 24, 2017 - David Gravel continued his east coast dominance Wednesday night at New Egypt Speedway by picking up his third win of the last four World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series races and his eighth-overall win for the 2017 season. Gravel, no stranger to the D-shaped clay oval, cut his teeth in Sprint Car racing at New Egypt in his URC Sprint Car.
"I'm glad I could win in front of everybody here that came out to watch me," Gravel said. "I have to thank Barry, Derek and Zack for working hard to give me a good car; I just have to do my part."
Jason Johnson and Gravel lead the 24-car field to the green flag to start the 30-lap Feature. Gravel dove into turn one and came out of turn two as the new leader on the initial start and never looked back.
The first caution of the night was brought out on lap six for a slow Tyler Ross.
Donny Schatz and Brad Sweet put pressure on Johnson for second on the restart as they went three-wide going into turn one. Sweet came out on top as he pulled away in second.
Dave Blaney, Jason Sides and Davey Sammons went upside-down in turns one and two bringing out the red flag on lap seven, all drivers were ok. The four-time defending race winner, Daryn Pittman was also involved, causing wing damage and a broken front axle.
After spending time in the work area, Sides, Pittman and Sammons were able to rejoin the back of the field. Blaney suffered too much damage to return.
After the field got going again, Gravel was able to get back out front and hold a steady lead over Sweet until they caught lap traffic on lap 14.
Gravel maneuvered his way through the lap cars smoothly until Sweet and Schatz started the second and third-place cars a glimmer of hope.
With four laps remaining. Schatz dove under Sweet going into turn one and took away the second spot by the time he exited for the back stretch.
Schatz then set his sights on Gravel but only to have a lap car act has a pick as they exited out of the final turn.
"I'm sure he was close," mentioned Gravel about Schatz. "I really couldn't do anything. It was a pretty narrow track but I just tried not to slip up. I don't know if he was running high or low. I was trying to be patient in lap traffic."
Gravel crossed the line and took the victory over Schatz, Sweet, Shane Stewart and Jason Johnson. Gravel is red-hot on the east coast having won three races in the last week.
"It's been a great year and hopefully we keep doing this," Gravel noted.
The 2016 defending World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Champion, Schatz, felt his car wasn't good enough to beat Gravel.
"We got there in traffic but that's what it was going to take to win the race," Schatz said. "The lap cars were pretty tough to get around. He was better than we were in the open. You're not going to win these races anymore if you're not a very good car and we just haven't seem to get that right rear feel. We'll keep working on it."
Third-place finisher, Sweet, was happy with his performance in his No. 49 machine despite rough track conditions.
"There were some holes out there and lap traffic and that's what easily wins or loses it," Sweet added. "We were right there on David and tried to move up a little bit but there wasn't much up there. David did a good job and just kind of managed the race and kept his car out front in the right position."
Shark Racing ran into hauler troubles heading to New Egypt forcing them to arrive late. Logan Schuchart tagged on to the back of the heat race while Jacobs Allen's car arrived later and made it just in time for the Last Chance Showdown. Schuchart transferred to the feature through the Last Chance Showdown from last place and finished in a solid 12th-place finish, grabbing the KSE Hard Charger Award in the process.
Pittman, who had won the last four races at New Egypt, was set to start ninth in the third heat and immediately went pit side to change an engine after trailing oil on the track. Pittman qualified second in the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the Feature. He was then tangled up in an early wreck, damaging the wing and breaking the front axle. Pittman made it back out and finished 14th.
Donny Schatz kicked off the night with the fastest time in time trials with a time of 13.422. Heat races went to Stewart, Shaffer and Gravel. Johnson won the Craftsman Club Dash and Jason Sides won the last chance showdown.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to action on Friday, May 26 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte for the Outlaw Showdown. Last year saw Greg Wilson find his way to the big stage under the lights over Shane Stewart and Cole Duncan.

BROWN WINS WIRE TO WIRE PASS/MASS CO-SANCTION SHOWDOWN AT SUSQUEHANNA

“Downtown” Dave Brown took the checkered flag this past Saturday night at Susquehanna Speedway for the ninth time in his career over Tyler Reeser, Cale Reagle, Darren Miller, and Kyle Ganoe. Saturday’s event at Susquehanna marked the first co-sanctioned Racesaver 305 event between the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series and PA Sprint Series on the 2017 schedule. Brown was one of sixteen MASS registered drivers who made the haul out to the Central Pennsylvania speedway, in efforts to take on the talents of the PA Sprint Series.

“Everything went well from the start tonight,” said the twenty-six-year-old Aston, PA native. “We pulled a good number that helped us start up front in the heat race, which is always a big help. The car was great for the heat and with just a few adjustments for the feature to make the car work on a dry-slick track with the help of my friends at Newlin Bar Service, we were good enough to get the job done!”
Thirty-four cars took part in four eight-lap qualifying heat races, with five cars transferring from the heat to the a-main. Dave Brown, Tyler Reeser, Dave Grube and Kyle Ganoe were all credited with wins in the qualifying events, also earning them $50 cash from heat race sponsors CSI Shocks, Freiberger Excavating and Professional Design Services. The B-Main was won by Nick Sweigart, who also took home a $50 gift certificate to CSI Shocks for his efforts.
At the start of the twenty-lap feature event, Cale Reagle and rookie Austin Bishop brought the field around for the green flag, with Reagle taking control of the lead immediately by the time they reached the flag stand. Bishop, who jumped to the high side of the multi-groove speedway, tried to challenge the leader for the front running spot a lap later, but he was unable to complete the pass, so he settled back into second.
Brown, who started in fourth, advanced quickly into third and began catching ground on second place utilizing the very top of the race track.
“After looking at the track and watching the midgets, I knew there was a lane up close to the wall that had not seen much traffic, so I basically had to work that groove in for a few laps, and it began to work,” noted Brown. “When I got to the second-place car, I noticed that Austin was running that line as well, but I think my car was a little bit better than his, so I was able to get a slider in around him in turns three and four, and after that we were able to focus on the leader”.
By the half way point with ten laps down, Reagle caught up to lapped traffic, with Brown lurking closely behind. On lap eleven, Brown passed Reagle for the lead, again applying his strategy to that ultra-high groove that was working so well for him the entire race. Running away with the lead with over a half a straight away gap on the top five, Brown said “a balance of aggressiveness and patience” is what he attributed to his success in maneuvering through lapped traffic.
“With most of the field leaving the top side open, it was less patience and more of a ‘hammer down’ mindset that I was thinking when getting around the slower cars,” Brown said. “I just knew the top was the fast way around and I wasn’t going to move down to try and pass any lap cars, just in case there was someone close behind”.
In the closing laps of feature, twenty-one-year-old PASS regular Tyler Reeser moved into the top three by running a similar line that leader Dave Brown was using. On the last lap, Reeser stole second from Reagle, while “rim riding” around the outside wall in hopes to gain enough ground to make for an exciting finish.
“The bottom of the track was actually pretty decent, and I was able to pass a few cars down there on my way to the front,” Reeser said. “The top just had more momentum because of the cushion and with that being as good as it was, it really helped me mainly for the same reason Dave said and that’s because a lot of people don’t use it, so who ever does use it can see it as an open window”.
“I’m not sure how much more time I needed, but were we both in lapped traffic, and that plays a huge roll in things,” Reeser explained. “I think a caution would have been the best thing to see for me”.
“I just have to thank my dad, my buddy Damian, Newlin’s Bar Service who has been a huge help in getting my car set-up right this year,” Brown thanked in a post-race interview. “All of my sponsors, Ennis Burner’s and Fuel Service, Beck Welding and Fabrication, and D. Capps Carpentry. Everyone and anyone who helps me out, just know that you guys make it possible for me to be competitive and able to what we’ve done tonight”.

Shane Stewart Stands Tall At Williams Grove
Earns First Career Williams Grove Win
MECHANICSBURG, PA - May 20, 2017 - Shane Stewart started on the pole for the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series Morgan Cup at Williams Grove Speedway, but didn't lead the opening lap. Instead, he battled with PA Posse driver TJ Stutts of Liverpool, PA and used a slide job in turns one and two to take the lead on a lap 11 restart. From there, Stewart held off Stutts and then Daryn Pittman on a pair of restarts over the final 10 laps to earn his first career Williams Grove win and his first Outlaw victory of the 2017 season.
"You don't even know what it means to me to finally get here in Victory Lane," Stewart said in Victory Lane. "I know the East Coast isn't always kind to me, but I am very happy and going to cherish this win."
Stewart earned the pole after winning the Craftsman Club Dash and led the field to the green flag with Stutts on the outside of the front row. It was Stutts who grabbed the lead by the time the two drivers had raced turn three. The top two quickly broke away from a third-place battle between Outlaw rookie Sheldon Haudenschild and Tim Shaffer of Aliquippa, PA. Shaffer took the spot on lap seven when Haudenschild spun at the bottom of turn one, but kept his foot in the gas and continued without incident despite losing five positions.
The battle for the lead gained momentum as Stewart closed on Stutts and on lap 10 moved to the outside lane to setup a pass. A lap later, Stewart appeared to have enough steam in the outside lane to take the lead, but Stutts led by 0.002 seconds at the line, just as the first caution of the race waved when Haudenschild spun to a stop at the top of turn three.
On the restart, Stewart made the race-winning move when he dove to the bottom of the track and slid in front of Stutts to drive off turn two with the lead.
"I didn't get a break on the initial start of the Feature and I told myself that if TJ took the bottom, I actually thought the top was going to be better," Stewart said. "It just worked out really well for us. Man, clean air makes everything and makes a big difference."
Stewart ran the rest of the race in clean air as the top pairing never had the chance to wade into lapped traffic. The second caution of the race waved at lap 15 when Brent Marks and Brian Montieth made contact and tangled together at the top of turn two, ending the night for both drivers.
Stewart kept the field at bay when the green waved and again on a lap 21 restart. Meanwhile, Pittman darted from eighth to fourth on the latter restart before jumping into second on the final restart with seven laps to go. He earned his second runner-up finish of the week, finishing 2.044 seconds behind Stewart's Larson Marks Racing No.2.
"I had such a good car on restarts that every time we went green, my car had the right attitude," Pittman said following the race. "Everybody seemed to be a little rolled up down there on the start in turns three and four and I could get by a couple guys every time."
Stewart cruised over the final five laps on his way to the victory, which he celebrated in Victory Lane with his fiancée Jenn, daughter Nixon and the Larson Marks Racing crew.
"It means a lot to me," Stewart said. "I know that the rivalry here is out of this world, which I appreciate. I love the enthusiasm and the Pennsylvania fans."
The track was an interesting mix of tacky and dry slick throughout the night, conditions that were unusual for Williams Grove, Pittman said.
"I've seen this place about every which way that's an option, but I don't think I've ever seen it quite like it was tonight," Pittman explained. "It was definitely different. I've never seen a wet strip a car length and a half off the bottom stay that long throughout the night. It was the dominant way around."
During Pittman's charge forward, Shaffer worked past Stutts to maintain the third spot and earn a third-place finish, equaling the best results of PA Posse drivers Danny Dietrich and Freddie Rahmer earlier in the week.
"Last night we missed it there at the beginning and it killed us," Shaffer said, "but tonight we did the right things and put ourselves in position (to contend) and we're on the front straightaway."
Lance Dewease of Fayetteville, PA and Outlaw driver Logan Schuchart completed the top-five following a spirited battle for fourth in the closing laps.
Jason Johnson set quick time to start the night with a lap of 16.402 seconds, less than three-tenths of a second off the track record of 16.140 set by Brian Paulus on April 26, 2002. He was the 25th of 37 drivers to take time. Johnson followed with a heat race win. Dewease, Schuchart and Jason Sides were the other heat winners, while Marks won the Last Chance Showdown.
The Outlaws now travel north for the Empire State Challenge at Weedsport (NY) Speedway on Sunday, May 21. Fans who can't make it to the track can watch live pay-per-view video coverage on DIRTvision.

ASCS Red River Loot Goes To Sam Hafertepe, Jr. at Lawton Speedway

LAWTON, Okla. (May 20, 2017) Topping a stout field of 29 drivers at Lawton Speedway with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. won the battle through traffic to pick up $2,000 and his sixth ASCS sanctioned victory of the 2017 season.
Taking off from the pole of Saturday's lineup, the opening lap lead fell into the hands of John Carney II, who rolled the outside of the front row. Working into traffic by the seventh round, Carney had opened up a comfortable advantage as the MVT No. 11x began weaving around back markers. Making moves as fast as Carney, the distance between first and second began to close.
Working low into the first and second turn on Lap 15, Carney hit the back straightaway with Hafertepe charging off the cushion. Turning down the track, Sam found the low side of turn three first, forcing Carney to the middle and in turn, to second off the fourth turn.
Caution working Lap 16, the field reverted back to the previously completed lap. Still showing Hafertepe on point, the green saw Carney dive the first turn in an attempt to slide Sam for the lead, but the move would be denied as John fell back in line.
High in one and two, and low and three and four, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. built a 1.5 second advantage over the No. 11x. Searching either end of the track, Carney began running the cushion at both ends. Picking up time on the No 15h, traffic again came into play; allowing Carney to close right on Hafertepe's back bumper with only three laps to go. Still able to thwart any attempts at the lead and again pull away, Sam cleared the checkered flag with a 1.415 second advantage.
Skipping over the cushion in the final turns, Carney would relinquish the runner-up spot to Oklahoma's Alex Sewell with John Carney II holding on to complete the podium. Seth Bergman fourth was joined by Wayne Johnson to round out the top-five. Blake Hahn crossed sixth with Matt Covington, Danny Jennings, Brandon Long, and Johnny Herrera rounding out the top-ten.
The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products returns to Lawton Speedway on Wednesday, June 14 with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network for round four of the 2017 ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek.
