FORTUNE FAVORED: Logan Schuchart wins NOS Energy Drink Showdown at Stockton
Schuchart benefits from teammate Jacob Allen’s bad luck to win race and $20,000 prize
STOCKTON, CA – Sept. 13, 2019 – Logan Schuchart could see victory at the Stockton Dirt Track with three laps to go. He could see his opportunity to sweep the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series races at the track. And he could see collecting the $20,000 award for winning the NOS Energy Drink Showdown.
However, he could also see his Shark Racing teammate Jacob Allen leading, searching for his first World of Outlaws win. He couldn’t catch him. A runner-up finish looked like his calling, and he was OK with that.
Cruising down the backstretch, he saw Allen’s Drydene No. 1a car power into turn three, heading for two laps to go. When Schuchart exited turn four, he no longer saw Allen in front of him. The white and blue No. 1a slowed and pulled into the infield.
The lead was Schuchart’s. And after two clean laps, so was the win.
“It’s a tough deal,” Schuchart said of Allen’s affliction. “I’m happy to get the win. It’s awesome to have these cars up front. Whatever happened, this team works really hard to keep these cars on the racetrack.”
The victory was Schuchart’s seventh of the year – further breaking his record of winning at most four wins in a season – and 15th career World of Outlaws win overall.
While he celebrated in Victory Lane with his Drydene cladded Shark Racing team, Allen was back at the trailer diagnosing an engine failure with his crew under a full moon Friday the 13th night.
“Pretty much a heart break,” said a deflated Allen, trying to find the words to describe the loss. “It’s kind of tough.”
The Shark Racing duo were fast all night. Schuchart qualified third and Allen fourth – both setting times that broke the previous track record. Ten-time Series champion Donny Schatz set Quick Time and the new track record with a time of 12.543 sec.
Schuchart and Allen went on to both finished second in their Drydene Heat races. Then finish third and second, respectively, in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash – won by Austen Wheatley.
Wheatley and Allen made up the front row of the 30-lap Feature – both attempting to win their first World of Outlaws race. On the initial start, Wheatley hit the throttle and wheeled onto the front stretch, allowing Allen to get the jump on him and pull away with the lead into the first turn.
His comfortable lead was eliminated in two laps when the first caution came out for Shane Stewart going off track in turn two. On the restart Allen launched back to the lead, but Wheatley stayed close and got side by side with Allen through the first corner. Allen had the better grip on the high groove and drove away from Wheatley down the backstretch.
While Allen ran away with the lead, David Gravel worked his way around Schuchart for third and after dueling with Wheatley for eight laps moved into second. By that time, Allen had found himself in heavy lap traffic. Gravel was able to gain yards on him every lap.
However, once Allen found clean air again, he left Gravel searching for speed by pulling away to about a straightaway lead.
With nine laps to go Allen caught more traffic, including Brad Sweet, and got loose exiting turn two. He lost traction exiting turn four, too, unable to hold his line. That allowed Gravel to go from being a straightaway back to being at Allen’s tail tank.
Allen continued to run the low line into turn one and Gravel darted high to try and get a run around him. However, the move cost Gravel a chance at a win. Going high opened the door for Schuchart to dive underneath. The two almost made contact at the apex of the corner, hurting Gravel most. Schuchart accelerated away from the Mesilla Valley Transportation No. 41 car down the backstretch.
“I kind of punched myself in the head there after that,” Gravel said. “I tried to pass Jacob on the top going into one and two, ended up giving the spot to Logan.”
Now, the only car Schuchart saw in front of him was his teammate. With seven laps to go inches separated the Shark Racing drivers due to a caution for Tim Kaeding going off track in turn two.
On the final restart of the night Allen rocketed ahead of Schuchart. He made it look like a race between a great white shark and a carp. Schuchart couldn’t keep pace with his teammate and in the closing laps found himself having to hold off a hard charging Schatz, who got around Gravel for third.
With three laps to go Allen wore the appearance of a first-time winner. Clean laps. No mistakes. And fields of clean air between the cars behind him and in front of him. Appearances meant nothing, though. While driving through turns three and four his fairy tale turned into a horror movie. His engine let go. Speed lost. Win lost.
“After that last restart it felt like it was kind of starting to lose power a pinch,” Allen said. “But it’s hard to say. You know, you’ve got a lot on your mind. There’re only a few laps left. You’re just trying to finish it and win the race. It’s a pretty shitty deal really. I don’t know. It sucks. I guess it’s just part of it.”
Allen’s misfortune became Schuchart’s gain as he inherited the lead and drove to his second straight win at the Stockton Dirt Track.
“He was way faster than I was,” Schuchart said about Allen. “It showed after the restart. It’s tough. Once Jacob got to the lead, he was gone. I couldn’t really hit my marks there for a few laps. I was just trying to make myself wide. I was happy to run second in this race. But I’m a competitor at the same time. I was going to try and pass him if I got the spot.
“Jacob, he’s been working really hard at this deal. It’s tough. It takes a lot out of you. Especially when you get beat all of the time. But he’s right there. We’ve seen it in the past. I hope he can get his spirit up and win one of these things. I’ve never been so big as a fan as I was running second tonight.”
While Allen’s slumped body posture and hanging head expressed his disappointment in his 17th place finish, he was still able to find the light in a gloomy situation.
“It gives you confidence for sure, just being that close and just leading laps,” Allen said. “Definitely a confidence booster. Probably the biggest thing, besides me getting my first win, is just knowing Logan was running second and we had a shot at getting our first one-two finish. Yeah, it’s not easy to be up front on any of these Outlaw races. I guess it just made me more hungry for the next time.”
Schatz finished second and Gravel had to settle for third. With Schatz’s runner-up finish he was able to retake the points lead over Grass Valley, Calif.-native Brad Sweet – who finished 10th – one race after Sweet took it from him. The reigning champion is now 14 points ahead of Sweet heading into the final California race of the year.
Schuchart is in a close points battle of his own. Sitting fifth in points, he is 38 points behind fourth-place Daryn Pittman after winning the NOS Energy Drink Showdown.
The Pennsylvania-native now has his sights set on a win at Calistoga Speedway.

GRANT GAINS THE UPPER HAND AT HURTUBISE CLASSIC

Terre Haute, Indiana (September 13, 2019).........Justin Grant remembers going a long way in his first visit to the Terre Haute Action Track in 2010.
Friday night, the Ione, Calif. native showed he's come a long way in another aspect since his humbling introduction to the famed western Indiana half-mile nearly a decade earlier, winning the 20th running of the Jim Hurtubise Classic for USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars, his first Sprint Car win of any kind at the track.
"In my first race here in 2010, I sailed it out of the park in turn one and I smashed a guy's Buick or Plymouth, or something, whatever it was," Grant recalled. "I made it a long way out there too. Terre Haute had my number for quite a while and it's taken me nine years to finally get a win here, but we did it, and it feels really good. At one point, it was probably my worst track on the tour. To come here and win, it means a lot to me personally."
Grant, a 2018 Sumar Classic Silver Crown winner at Terre Haute, had a topsy-turvy turn of events to begin his night. Shortly after racing from 5th to 1st to win the first heat race, on his cooldown lap, Grant encountered trouble, without warning, that nearly spelled complete disaster.
"We had a left front radius rod come apart, and you can't steer," Grant explained. "The axle rolls back and falls off the arm. I lifted off of (turn) two, and halfway down the back stretch, it started squirrelling all around and I thought 'Whoa, we got a problem here.' I knew the front end was falling out, and when you get on the brakes, it just folds them up. I was just trying to coast it to a stop; I got it whoa'd down pretty slow, then it dropped, and the frame rail dug in and it just turned me right into the inside wall. Luckily, it just front-bumpered into it. No harm, no foul. We brought it back, put a bolt in it and we were ready for the feature."
If the incident would've occurred one lap earlier, the outcome and the progression of the night could've been disastrously different. However, on this particular night, in the first ever USAC National event held simultaneously on Friday the 13th and with a full moon hovering overhead, perhaps good fortune was on his side.
Grant rolled off for the 30-lap feature from the third position, but it took no time flat for him to race his way into the lead, grooving the bottom past pole sitter Nick Bilbee in the first turn to secure the lead while 7th starting Jason McDougal charged all the way to 2nd by the conclusion of the opening lap, but a full second behind Grant.
In the ensuing laps, Kevin Thomas, Jr., Brady Bacon and Tyler Courtney had worked their way around McDougal to occupy positions 2-3-4 and formed a triumvirate in their pursuit to run down Grant with seven laps completed.
Grant was introduced to lapped traffic by the tenth lap, allowing Thomas to close the gap to under a second. The lapped cars of Dustin Christie and Aric Gentry battled for position in their own right, but Grant escaped from Thomas for the time being, maneuvering around the outside of Christie off turn four, then dove low, sliding by Gentry at the entrance of turn one.
Thomas kept Grant in check, and as Grant slid into the fluff on the outside of turn two on the 11th lap, Thomas used a massive run to drive by Gentry and charge into turn three side-by-side momentarily to the inside of Grant. Grant withheld the challenge and remained in control past halfway, until lap 18, when Thomas went on the attack once again, throwing a monster slider on Grant who was able to stand his ground and firm his grip of the lead as he split the lapped cars of Steve Thomas and Dustin Smith to sneak away and increase the interval to 2.5 seconds.
From that point forward, the crystal clear message was sent to Grant. There was no more time to be conservative and ride around as Grant stood up in the seat and regularly entered above the cushion as he began to assert his authority and rebuild his advantage.
Courtney, who had won three of the last five USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car features at Terre Haute entering the night, had carved his way into second under Thomas on the 21st lap. Meanwhile, Grant was sitting pretty up front with a comfortable lead in his TOPP Motorsports/NOS Energy Drink - Bow Foundation - Challenger Construction/Maxim/Claxton Chevy.
With just five laps remaining, however, Grant's two-plus second lead was deleted when two-time Jim Hurtubise Classic winner and 4th running Brady Bacon encountered trouble and heavy right-side damage, coming to a rest against the turn one wall.
"I didn't want to see that," Grant said of the yellow flag. "I knew I had gotten through lapped traffic pretty quickly for as thick it was. We were honestly in a pretty good rhythm. Here, you never want to see a yellow when you're leading. The front stretch is so long and so slick, and if you slide yourself, there's nothing off of two and you're a sitting duck. You can't block the slider; you just hope you get a good enough restart and you can beat the slider to the center."
Justin Grant's 16th career USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car feature victory moved him into a tie with Damion Gardner for 33rd on the all-time win list. The victory vaulted Grant past Bobby East, Cory Kruseman, Jud Larson and Brian Tyler on the same list.

Grant was fully prepared for the challenge that was going to be presented to him at the drop of the green flag from Courtney, the defending series champion. Courtney reared back on the start and fired his machine to the bottom in hope to slide up in front of Grant by turn two. Grant never wavered, kept his right foot on the throttle and squeezed through to the miniscule peak of daylight between Courtney to his inside and the concrete wall to his outside.
Courtney took his shot and sold out for the lead in the process, as Grant shot back out to a half-second advantage while Thomas took advantage of Courtney's loss of momentum exiting the second turn to move back to second. In the final laps, Thomas utilized a line lower than Grant's top side ride but wasn't able to get close enough to fire off a slide job for the top spot.
Grant, meanwhile, raced to his third USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car points win of the season by 0.925 of a second over Thomas, Courtney, Fatheadz Eyewear fast qualifier Chris Windom and series point leader C.J. Leary.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (September 13, 2019) - With plans to compete in Pennsylvania during the coming weekend, ‘Speedweek: Reloaded’ winner James McFadden was unsure of his team’s return to Atomic Speedway for Friday’s ‘Night Before The Knittel.’ Suffice it to say, the decision to stay in the Buckeye State proved exciting, as well as valuable.
For the second time in as many nights, Warrnambool, Australia’s James McFadden is an Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 main event winner in Chillicothe, Ohio. The victory, valued at $5,054 with the ‘54’ honoring the late Dean Knittel’s car number, was accomplished in convincing fashion, eventually driving by Rudeen Racing’s Cory Eliason on lap 16 before escaping to a lengthy command in traffic.
The multi-time World Series of Sprintcars champion now owns four All Star Circuit of Champions victories in 2019, all of which occurring in pairs: Plymouth Dirt Track and Jackson Motorplex on July 25 & 26, followed by back-to-back wins at Atomic Speedway on September 12 & 13.
Although no match for McFadden during the late stages of the 30-lapper, Cory Eliason chased the Kasey Kahne Racing with Mike Curb entry to the final checkers, followed by Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing super sub Tim Shaffer, Clute, Texas’ Aaron Reutzel, and six-time Series champion, Chad Kemenah.
“Everyone knows the Kasey Kahne Racing guys, as well as the No. 9 cars, are some of the best in the world,” James McFadden said, driver of the Wicked Energy Gum/Team ASE/Curb.com/No. 9 sprint car. “They really make my job a lot easier. I certainly enjoy driving their car.”
Starting fourth on the feature grid, McFadden gained his first spot in the running order with only one lap knocked off the counter, as outside-pole sitter and lap one leader, Aaron Reutzel, lost his footing in turn two and fell off the edge of the speedway. Although Reutzel was able to quickly regain his momentum, multiple spots were lost, ultimately dropping from first to fourth.
After a caution on lap four, green flag competition returned with McFadden chasing Chad Kemenah and race leader Cory Eliason. Slower traffic entered the picture by lap nine giving McFadden the opportunity to close-in on the lead pair’s advantage. Just two circuits later, McFadden made a move, this time driving by Chad Kemenah with a long-range slide job through turns three and four. The move stuck, now switching his focus to Eliason.
As the laps clicked by, the road blocks widened, eventually leading to a three-to-four car, nose-to-tail battle amongst the top-four in traffic. Unaffected by lappers stacking up two and three wide ahead of him, McFadden remained collective and continued his pursuit of Eliason’s familiar No. 26.
Incidentally, the midpoint of the 30-lap program marked as the turning point for McFadden. Utilizing a near-perfect drive through the first and second corner on lap 16, McFadden exited turn two right on the back bumper of Eliason. Exercising his signature slider yet again, McFadden dove hard into turn three and drove right by the Rudeen Racing entry. By no surprise, the slider was a success, allowing McFadden to secure the lead by the time the cars reached the flagstand.
Although caution flags would reappear on lap 20, the quick momentum shift proved to be nothing but an advantage for McFadden, using the ensuing restart to escape to a near-straightaway margin.
The front-runners did encounter traffic one more time during the final five circuits, but McFadden was on point.
“Things were very similar in the end, maybe a little more slick than last night,” McFadden continued, who won the main event by a margin of victory equalling 1.4 seconds. “We weren’t very far off from where we were last night. Our base package is pretty good right now.”
The three-day All Star Circuit of Champions invasion of Atomic Speedway will conclude on Saturday evening, September 14, with the second running of the Dean Knittel Memorial. Headlined with a 30-lap main event awarding a $12,554 winner’s share, as well as a guaranteed $754 for each A-Main starter, the evening blockbuster will also hand out bonus money incentives for heat race winners ($154), dash winners ($454), overall fast qualifier ($554), most A-Main laps led ($354), and the A-Main’s hard charger, which will result in a $754 bonus.

James McFadden slides by Dale Blaney late to score ‘Speedweek: Reloaded’ win at Atomic Speedway
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (September 12, 2019) - Certainly an exciting way to open the three-day Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 invasion of southern Ohio, Warrnambool, Australia’s James McFadden put fans on their feet on Thursday night in Chillicothe by overtaking six-time Series champion and all-time Series win leader, Dale Blaney, with just one and a half circuits remaining to score the ‘Speedweek: Reloaded’ victory on the highbanks of Atomic Speedway.
Starting third on the feature grid, the multi-time World Series of Sprintcars champion in Australia battled within the top three the entire distance, eventually overtaking the second position from defending All Star champion, Aaron Reutzel, on lap 21, all before stealing the top spot from Blaney in the closing circuits. For McFadden, the victory bumps his season total with Tony Stewart’s All Stars to three, now with five on his career. The $5,000 triumph was a first-ever at Atomic Speedway during All Star competition.
Despite losing grip on the lead, Blaney hung on to finish second, followed by fellow six-time Series champion, Chad Kemenah, Canadian All Star Rookie of the Year contender, Skylar Gee, and Clute, Texas’ Aaron Reutzel.
“I thought if I could slide him and block him out of turn two, we were going to be alright,” an elated James McFadden said in victory lane, driver of the Kasey Kahne Racing with Mike Curb/Wicked Energy Gum/Karavan/No. 9 sprint car. “It was a tough race. It was super hard to see where you needed to be at some points. The guys gave me a great car and I can’t thank them enough.”
Although the first ten circuits were filled with their share of chaos, two cautions including a red flag incident that eventually led to tire-wall repair, things started to really intensify once the leaders found traffic on lap 13. Blaney was in control, but Chad Kemenah and James McFadden were waiting in the wings and ready to strike. Trying to take advantage of Blaney’s momentum shift in traffic, Kemenah attempted a bid for the top spot on lap 16. Despite making his slider work through the corner, Blaney dove back underneath the No. K4 and exited turn two resuming control.
With Reutzel now in the mix, a nose-to-tail battle in traffic involving the top-four spots soon erupted. By lap 21, McFadden was in a prime position to advance, nose-diving to the bottom of turn one before sliding in front of Kemenah to gain second. The move worked, now setting his aim on race leader, Dale Blaney.
By lap 24, McFadden was all over the back bumper of Blaney, as no lapped cars separated himself from the race leader. Just as the front-runners received the two-to-go signal from the flagstand, McFadden put himself in position to execute, once again diving to the bottom of turn one in an attempt to slide up in front of the McGhee Motorsports No. 11. As it did with his move around Kemenah, the slide job worked, leading the last lap and a half to secure his place on top of the feature podium.
“Dale (Blaney) didn’t do anything wrong. We were in a position to capitalize,” James McFadden continued. “Luckily, it worked out. Sometimes it’s better to be the leader in the closing laps, sometimes it better to be second.”
The three-day All Star Circuit of Champions invasion of Atomic Speedway will continue Friday evening, September 13, with the ‘Night Before The Knittel’ program awarding a $5,054 payday. Less than half of the loot up for grabs one night later, the blockbuster weekend at Atomic Speedway will hit an even higher gear on Saturday night, September 14, with the 2nd Annual Dean Knittel Memorial awarding a $12,554 winner’s share.

FINDING GOLD IN EL DORADO: Shane Golobic eliminates self-doubt with win at Placerville
Shane Golobic leads California podium with win at the Placerville Speedway's 49er Gold Rush Classic
PLACERVILLE, CA – Sept. 11, 2019 – Doubt has filled Shane Golobic’s mind for the last six years.
His first and only World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win came in 2013. Since then he’s questioned if he would or could ever win one again.
There was a clear answer Wednesday night during the 49er Gold Rush Classic presented by Riebes NAPA Auto Parts at Placerville Speedway.
Golobic tested the limits of his vocal cords from yelling inside his NOS Energy Drink No. 17w car. He couldn’t get out of it fast enough and do something his calm mannered self would rarely do.
He climbed to the top wing of his car, yelling and cheering, with the checkered flag in hand, letting the blue and orange confetti bath him while he celebrated his second World of Outlaws wins.
“I feel like two gives you a little more credibility than one,” said Golobic, who runs a part-time schedule with the Series. “I got the first one at a little short track, Antioch (Speedway). It was a none stop Feature, it counts as an Outlaws win one hundred percent, but there’s always that little bit of doubt. I’m not so much worried about other people, what they think, but just in me. You know, it’s been a few years since we done it. You just wonder if it is ever going to happen again. Tonight, we had the race car to do it.”
The victory was not handed to him. He worked for. All night long.
The Fremont, Calif.-native started the night by Qualifying fifth. He then went on to fight his way to a second-place finish in his Drydene Heat race and then to a fourth-place finish in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash.
The night was mostly ruled by Californians, winning everything but one Heat race which was won by Daryn Pittman, who drivers for the California-based Roth Motorsports team. Brad Sweet was the top Golden State driver for most of the night by winning his Drydene Heat race and winning the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. He also pulled double duty as promoter and driver for the race.
When the 40-lap Feature went green at the quarter-mile track in El Dorado County, Sweet jumped to the lead, leaving outside polesitter, and fellow California-native, Carson Macedo to battle with Kraig Kinser for second. Golobic ran fourth.
The field got five laps into the race before the first caution came out for Kyle Larson spinning in turn four. When the race resumed, Sweet marched back to the lead. Macedo stayed close by, though. Behind the front two, Golobic found his rhythm around the high side of the track and worked his way around Kinser to take third-place. He tried to contend with Macedo by sneaking to his outside, but the Kyle Larson Racing driver closed the door and focused on his trek to Sweet’s bumper.
Less than a car length’s distance separated Sweet and Macedo for the next 10 laps. Sweet ran the low line. Macedo hammered the outside of the speedway. The two Californians ran their lines with precision, neither gaining nor losing ground on the other.
However, on Lap 14 Sweet sailed his NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 car to the high side in turn three. The precision was lost. He bounced off the cushion, hindering his speed. Macedo had already reacted to Sweet’s lane change by diving to the bottom. Once Sweet bobbled, Macedo powered by him for the lead. Sweet charged back underneath him the next circuit around and nosed the rookie to the line to reclaim the lead on Lap 16.
Macedo was too strong up high, though. He easily worked his way back around the outside of Sweet for the lead. While the “Big Cat” kept Macedo in striking distance for the next eight laps, Golobic continued to run third.
The third caution of the night came out on Lap 24 for Jessie Attard coming to a stop in turn four. On the restart, Golobic and Sweet raced side by side down the front stretch and into the first corner. Sweet lost grip on the exit of turn two and entered the backstretch at a 45-degree angle. With a clean exit by Golobic, he hammered the throttle and cleared Sweet for second before turn three.
Sweet tried to fight back but couldn’t. The handling went away on his car and he faded through the field.
With 10 laps to go, Golobic was about a second behind Macedo. He could still see the white No. 2 car in front of him, though. He could see a potential second World of Outlaws win still within reach. To get to it meant making more aggressive moves and using his knowledge as a local racer of the track to his advantage.
“With twenty-six to go, or whatever it was, on that restart I knew I needed to get a good drive down the straightaway and get to the top and click laps away and be there right behind Carson as close as I could when he did catch traffic,” Golobic said. “Took a peek at the board each time I went down the back straightaway. That’s probably something I have an advantage of over other guys who don’t race here every week. They don’t have that in the back of their mind during the race. Saw thirty-seven laps were down and started turning it on.”
With three laps to go Macedo bounced off the cushion in turn three, allowing Golobic to close to his bumper and stay on him like a magnet the next lap. In their return to turn three, Golobic shot underneath Macedo and slid up in front of him on the exit of turn four to take the lead.
Macedo threw two unsuccessful slide jobs at Golobic the next two corners. When the checkered flag hung over the track, Golobic was the first to see it – his first World of Outlaws win at Placerville Speedway and second career Series win overall.
“It’s my favorite racetrack in the world and now it’s even more of my favorite racetrack with this memory,” said Golobic who lives two hours away from the speedway.
Macedo had to settle for second, while Justin Sanders worked his way to his first World of Outlaws podium finish of the year.
“I feel pretty bad for my team,” Macedo said. “I feel like I let that one go. I knew it was getting super technical up there (on the high side). I could catch lap traffic and they were kind of making the racetrack dirty under the cushion. I was struggling to get through there. Shane just did a really good job.”
Sweet fell to sixth-place but still took home a victory. As a driver he reclaimed the points lead over 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz, who finished 10th – now leading him by two points. And as a promoter, he saw a sellout crowd.
That California crowd erupted into cheers, drowning out Golobic’s joyous yells when he climbed out of his Mike Wood Racing Sprint Car. The local boy won. His confidence boosted. Doubt gone.
“Doubt is gone for sure,” Golobic said without hesitation. “Now, hopefully we can get a couple more. Two really means a lot to me, now three is going to mean a lot to me.”

Flemington Car & Truck Country & Amwell Auto Body Present First Responders & Modified Championship Night This Saturday September 14th At New Egypt Speedway
New Egypt, NJ – It all comes down to this Saturday night for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds as Flemington Car & Truck Country along with Amwell Auto Body present Modified championship night along with First Responders Night at New Egypt Speedway.
While Billy Pauch Jr. has already clinched the 2019 Vahlco Wheels Modified championship with a race to spare following his runner-up finish on Saturday, there are still plenty of battles going on within the Top-10 in Vahlco Wheels Modified point standings. This past Saturday’s winner Danny Bouc sits second in points with 1041 markers, followed by Brandon Grosso in third with 1000, Mike Butler sits fourth just 11 points behind Grosso with 989, Ryan Krachun is currently fifth with 962 points. Despite missing three events 2018 track champion David VanHorn sits sixth with 895 markers, Rich Rutski sits seventh with 859, Cale Ross is eighth with 841, while Davey Sammons has 766 in ninth and Pat Wall is tenth with 753 points. With this Saturday being the last Modified points race of 2019 look for competitors to squeeze every point they can out of this Saturday’s 30 lap feature event.
Also in competition this Saturday will be the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars along with the Crate Modifieds and the Mike’s Performance Center 4-Cylinders.
Rich Mellor looks to wrap up the 2019 NEWS Sprint Car championship on Saturday as he has a 74-point lead over Heidi Hedin. The Crate Modified points race is about as close as you can get with Joe Toth leading with 565 points over Johnny Bangs with 557 and Ryan Simmons with 553 points. The Mike’s Performance Center 4-Cylinders also have a close points race with Mike Fox leading 2018 champion Joe Garey Sr. by just four points heading into this weekend.
Track champions in all support divisions will be crowned on Saturday night September 21st during Championship Night here at NES!
Adult admission will be $20, Seniors (65+) are $18, Teens (12-15) & Military w/ID are $10 with Kids 11 & Under being Free. Pit gates will opening at 3pm, Grandstands at 4pm with Hot Laps being scheduled for 5pm and the first green flag flying at 6pm this Saturday. All first responders with ID will receive FREE grandstand admission this Saturday night, there will also be an emergency vehicle parade taking place on the track during intermission on Saturday.
Our seventh Central Jersey Motorcycle Swap Meet of 2019 will take place this Sunday. Gates will open at 8AM for buyers and sellers. Spaces are $15 per space and it is completely free to browse. In case you missed it, the AMA Flat Track Motorcycle races that were scheduled for this Sunday September 15th have been moved to Saturday night October 19th at 5pm!

Terre Haute, Indiana (September 9, 2019).........Friday's Jim Hurtubise Classic begins a USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car doubleheader weekend in the Hoosier state this Friday, September 13, at one of USAC's longest-tenured venues, the Terre Haute Action Track, which hosted its first USAC Sprint Car event more than six decades ago, in 1957.
Friday's race honors the most successful USAC Sprint Car driver in those early years at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds half-mile, Jim Hurtubise, who won five-straight between 1960 and 1962. "Herk," a 1993 inductee into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, first had an event in his name at the Terre Haute Action Track in 1990, less than a year following his passing, a race won by Jack Hewitt.
This year, the event enters its 20th running with two-time USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car champion Brady Bacon scoring the most recent victory at the Hurtubise Classic last September. Bacon has had a notable run of success in the event as one of three drivers to win the Hurtubise Classic on multiple occasions, first winning in the Fall of 2014 aboard the Dynamics, Inc. No. 69. The Terre Haute USAC one-lap track record holder from Broken Arrow, Okla. aims to become the first driver to pilot the Dynamics, Inc. to victory lane at Terre Haute twice following previous singular victories by Robbie Stanley (1993), Tracy Hines (2003) and Jerry Coons, Jr. (2010).
Chris Windom (Canton, Ill.) is one of the three multiple-time Hurtubise Classic winners alongside Hewitt and Bacon, capturing three in 2011-2016-2017. With one more victory on Friday, he would surpass Hewitt as the winningest Hurtubise Classic driver of all-time. Windom has won four times overall in USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car competition at Terre Haute and once in Silver Crown, plus his latest triumph there at the western Indiana dirt oval, scoring an MSCS win in August.
The very first win of Chase Stockon's USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car career came right at Terre Haute during the 2012 Jim Hurtubise Classic. The current Fort Branch, Ind. resident who grew up in nearby Sullivan, Ind., has three USAC Sprint wins overall at Terre Haute, including the Tony Hulman Classic in May of this year. This Friday, he hopes to become USAC's ultimate ironman. One more start would be his 285th consecutive with the USAC National Sprint Car division, surpassing Levi Jones for the longest such streak in series history.

Tyler Courtney was the victor in the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car division's most recent visit to Terre Haute in July during Indiana Sprint Week where he led the final nine laps for the victory. In fact, the Indianapolis, Ind. native swept the event, earning quick time in qualifying, winning his heat and pulling off the trifecta in the A-Main. Courtney has won three of the last five at Terre Haute and is the most recent winner in the series, in August at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway.
The last driver to win at Terre Haute before Courtney began his run of three out of five at the beginning of the 2018 season is Kevin Thomas, Jr. Thomas (Cullman, Ala.) has won twice at the Action Track in USAC National Sprint competition. He emerged victorious after a scintillating battle with Dave Darland during the final laps of the ISW round in 2013, then reigned supreme near the end of 2017. Like Courtney, he's gunning for his first Hurtubise Classic win, where he finished 5th a year ago.
So is C.J. Leary, who's stood in victory lane once before with USAC at Terre Haute after scoring his first career National series win in a Silver Crown car at the Sumar Classic in 2016. Leary was 9th and 6th in his two Terre Haute starts this year en route to the 121-point lead in the series standings he holds entering Friday's race. The Greenfield, Ind. driver was quick time in qualifying at Terre Haute in May, one of his series-leading eight this year. He led the first five laps and finished 4th in the 2018 Hurtubise Classic.
Justin Grant (Ione, Calif.) led 21 laps and finished 2nd in the series appearance at Terre Haute in July. He took 5th in May and is 4th in the series standings entering Friday's event at Terre Haute where he has not yet won at in USAC competition. He owns two USAC National Sprint points-paying wins this season as well as a special event at Kokomo in August.
Jason McDougal (Broken Arrow, Okla.), a winner in both USAC's National Sprint Car and Midget series in 2019, earned a 7th place finish in his Terre Haute USAC Sprint Car debut in 2018. He was 10th in his first Hurtubise Classic appearance last Fall and took 7th again in his return to Terre Haute this past May.
Isaac Chapple (Willow Branch, Ind.) took 13th in his most recent Hurtubise Classic ride last September. The 2016 USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year was the hard charger at Terre Haute back in May, finishing 10th. He was 12th during the series return in July and resides 10th in the series standings.
The 163rd USAC Sprint Car event at the Terre Haute Action Track will also have the DIRTcar Modifieds on hand. Pits open at 3pm Eastern, grandstands at 4pm and cars on track at 6:30pm. Adult grandstand tickets are $25 while adult infield tickets are $15. Kids 11 and under are free. Pit passes are $35 apiece.
