Lance Dewease got by Chad Layton with five laps to go to claim the All Star Circuit of Champions Sprints feature at Williams Grove Speedway Friday night. (6/10)

For Dewease, the win marked the 76th time in his career that he visited victory lane at the Grove and the fifth time he had done so over the All Stars.

In 305 sprint action, Tyler Bear of Elliottsburg took the win in the 20-lap main event.

Chad Layton started second in the All Stars 30-lap main and ripped around the speedway to take the lead at the start as fourth starter Dewease blasted up to second by getting around polesitter Dale Blaney.

A fleet-running Layton appeared not to be denied what would have been his first win of the season anywhere, until his front wing became dislodged and began to collapse after the race was one-third completed.

Still, Layton was holding his own over Dewease in the non-stop affair through traffic until the wing flipped upside down onto his car’s hood just before the red flag appeared for a flipping Aaron Ott, who vaulted outside the oval’s first and second turns with 11 laps to go.

Still with his front wing flipped upside down onto the hood, the restart saw Layton produce a masterful drive to hold onto the lead over Dewease for the next six circuits as the pair darted all over the speedway trying to outwit one another with Layton using up every inch of real estate he could find.

But Layton finally succumbed as he worked lap 25, being forced to watch Dewease drive by on the backstretch for the $5,000 victory.

The final five tours produced dramatic racing for second between Layton, Blaney and sixth starter Don Kreitz Jr.

The trio raced within a few car lengths of one another the entire way with Harrisburg’s Layton holding on at the line.

Kreitz was third followed by Blaney and Daryn Pittman.

“Chad had his problem with the nose wing. He couldn’t go through the corner no more,” Dewease said of Layton’s drive.

“I give him credit, he used up all the racetrack he could on that restart. These things are a handful like that.”

Layton explained what he was going through, trying to manipulate his car out front.

“I don’t usually drive like that. With a couple laps to go like that you’re just trying to hold on and not drown,” he said.

“Those guys behind me probably wondered what the heck is he doing.”

Tim Shaffer finished sixth followed by Fred Rahmer, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Brian Montieth and Brian Leppo.

Heats for the 35-car field went to Greg Hodnett, Alan Krimes, Adam Wilt and Jim Siegel. NASCAR champion Tony Stewart won the B Main. Blaney earned the pole by winning the dash.

Rahmer set fast time in qualifications with a lap of 16.824 seconds.

Bear led all 20 laps of the 305 feature event, outrunning 19th starter Mike Wagner, II.

Wagner moved into second with a lap to go but ran out of time to catch Bear.

George Riden rode home third followed by Matt Mountz and third starter Logan Wagner, who went to the rear twice during the event only to drive back through the field both times.

Twin 305 heats went to Mark Watkins and Kody Lehman.

POWRi Racing Press Release

Posted by: | Comments (0)

June 8, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Knepper, Loyet lead Midgets, King, Beckinger top Outlaw Micros going into 1st POWRi events at West Plains, Springfield

POWRi’s Lucas Oil National Midget Series and Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micros will race for the first time at West Plains (Mo.) Motor Speedway on Friday (June 10) and Springfield (Mo.) Raceway on Saturday (June 11).

Nick Knepper, of Belleville, Ill., leads the Midget championship over Brad Loyet, of Sunset Hills, Mo., 1,030-850 with six events completed. Tim Siner, of Dupo, Ill., is third with 740, followed by Dereck King, of Vienna, Ill., with 730 and Brett Anderson, of Belleville, Ill., with 680.

The 24-year-old Knepper has two second places, three thirds, a fourth and an eighth in features in POWRi Midgets this season. Loyet was 19th at Du Quoin, Ill., and 16th at Grain Valley, Mo., in the opening two events before taking back-to-back victories at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., and Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville., Ill., and adding seconds at Brownstown, Ill., and Peoria, Ill.

Siner has four top-10s including third at Du Quoin, King has four-top fives including second at Belleville and Anderson has a victory at Grain Valley and three more top-eight finishes.

“The competition in POWRi is as tough as ever,” Knepper said. “There are seven or eight drivers capable of winning on any night.”

Knepper, fourth in the championship last season, will be hunting for his first win of 2011 this weekend.

“We’ve been consistent, so far, so good,” Knepper said. “Eighth at Brownstown has left a sour taste in my mouth, I know we were better than that. But we went from (starting) 14th to third at Peoria and that was a very good run. I’d like to get some wins. I’m tired of finishing behind those guys.”

Teams from the Southern Open Wheel Series (SOWS) and the Lucas Oil ASCS EcoTec Midgets are also expected to enter at West Plains and Springfield. Revolution Racing Engines will pay $150 to the top finisher and $50 for second with the RRE EcoTec.

King leads runner-up Trent Beckinger, of Evansville, Ind., 900-720 in the POWRi Outlaw Micros with Joe B. Miller, of Millersville, Mo., third with 710, J.B. Gilbert, of Charleston, Ill., fourth with 700 and Jordan Campbell, of Bloomington, Ill., fifth with 560.

King, a three-time POWRi Micros champion, has a victory at Wayne County, Ill., a pair of seconds, a third and a seventh in the five features. Beckinger didn’t enter DuQuoin and has climbed in the points with a win at Brownstown, Ill., second at Peoria, Ill., third at Wayne County and sixth at Belle-Clair.

“It’s really exciting to be that far up there after missing a race,” Beckinger said. “We’re going to really try to run all the races and run for the championship. I feel like POWRi is some of the best Micros racing in the nation.”

Miller has four top-six finishes including second at Brownstown, Gilbert was four top-nines including a third at Belle-Clair and Campbell has a third, fourth and seventh in five features.

MEISNER IS MONEY AT NEW EGYPT; WINS ON SEVEN CYLINDERS
New Egypt, NJ - June 4, 2011 - Second generation driver Phil Meisner Jr. from Bordentown, NJ held off a hard charging Jeff Geiges to win his first career Tri-State RaceSaver Series feature Saturday night at the New Egypt Speedway. By winning Meisner becomes the sixth different winner in as many races in 2011.

"I dropped a cylinder there with about five or six to go, I saw him (Geiges) try to get underneath me but I knew if i kept my momentum up top he would have a hard time getting around me" said Meisner.

Feature Winner Chris Allen Jr. and TSRS Rookie Mike Esposito lead the 20 car field to the wire on Saturday as it would be Allen getting ahead early. Allen would lead laps one through eight until a hard charging third place starter Phil Meisner would go top-shelf and around Allen coming down to complete lap nine. Meisner would just start to set sail as the yellow would wave for Pat U'Sellis and new comer Frank Lieto who came together in turns one and two. Once green replaced yellow Meisner continued to lead but the man on the move would be defending TSRS Champion Jeff Geiges who started to move forward getting up to the number two spot. Geiges would chase Meisner lap after lap up until lap fifteen when rookie contender Kyle Reinhardt spun in turn two. The restart put Geiges right on Meisner's tail tank. Meisner jumped back out to the lead but Geiges would start to stalk him harder and harder as Geiges would throw a unsuccesful slide job at Meisner with four to go. The final caution would wave on lap seventeen for Bobby Devault who broke on the back stretch ending his night setting up a three lap dsah for the checkered. Meisner would lead the final three laps and and cruise to his first career TSRS win. Geiges would have his best run of the season coming home second, current point leader John Wyers came home third with rookies Jeff Schall and Stephanie Stevens rounding out the top five.

The Tri-State RaceSaver Series is off this Saturday and will return to action Saturday night June 18 back at the New Egypt Speedway.
