Racing Replay: 1984 Michigan 500

Al Unser Jr. and Chip Ganassi are injured in an accident in the 1984 Michigan 500 at Michigan Int’l Speedway. The accident occurred just past halfway in the race when Ganassi lost control of his car exiting turn two, collecting Unser Jr. and taking both drivers into the inside guardrail.

1959
Jerry Unser... Died ... He was the 1957 USAC Stock Car champion. Jerry was the first of the Unser family to compete at Indianapolis. He died in a practice crash before the 1959 Indianapolis 500, leaving behind a widow, Jeanne Unser, and two sons, Jerry and Johnny Unser. His brothers Al and Bobby and his nephew Al Jr. have won the "500". His son Johnny and nephew Robby have also competed in the race.

Jimmy Davies won the USAC Midget race at the 25th Street Fairgrounds, Columbus, IN.
Nolan Johncock won the Super Modified race over Harry Jones at the Dixie Motor Speedway, Birch Run, MI.

1970
Gary Bettenhausen won the USAC Sprint Car race over Johnny Parsons, Larry Dickson, Sammy Sessions and Bill Puterbaugh at the Indianapolis Raceway Park, Indianapolis, IN.

Sammy Swindell won the World of Outlaws Sprint Car race over Jim Edwards, Jay Myers, Smokey Snellbaker and Bobby Allen at the Lincoln Speedway, Hanover, PA.

1996
Scott Brayton ... Died ... USAC/CART driver 1981 to 1996. Scott tragically lost his life in a fatal crash during practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Six days before the accident, Scott captured his second consecutive Indy 500 pole position.
