Results: Saturday night Microstock race at Wall Stadium

By

‘Super’ Dave Parker claimed the checkered flag in the Microstock feature in front of a full grandstand Saturday night at Wall Stadium.

It was a great night for Parker’s team. Parker and his teammate Tom Ervin both won the heat races. While Parker dominated his heat race, Ervin won his race in dramatic fashion. Ervin spun out on lap four while leading. He restarted in last and powered his way to the front passed eight over cars to reclaim the lead and take the heat race victory.

On the first lap of the feature, Ervin, Nick Cottone and Gary Scheffen got together in turn one. Ervin and Cottone were able to continue. Robert McGuire and John Paulsen battled for the early lead with Parker a close third. On lap five Parker took the lead with an inside pass and 76 slid back to third place behind Paulsen.

The biggest wreck occurred on lap seven just past the flagstand when Cottone and Mario Oberto made contact that sent Oberto on his roof bringing out a brief red flag. Both drivers were okay but the cars were not able to continue.

On the restart Parker resumed the lead with a great restart. Paulsen made a valiant challenge for the lead closely pursued by Andrew Shuster was now in third place and charging hard. Further back in the pack positions were changing as frequently as the racers jockeyed for position. One of the drivers, Ervin was quietly picking his way back to the front of the pack with an ill-handling car. With five laps to go, Ervin was in fourth spot.

As the flagman gave the signal for two to go, Shuster passed Paulsen and started rapidly gaining on Parker but came up just short. Parker held on to take the checkered flag. Ervin rallied from his lap one incident to take third spot in the final laps after a hard fought battle from last place.
