By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
On a hot, muggy summer evening with thunderstorms hitting all around the local area, the Accord Speedway somehow remained unscathed and reeled off an outstanding racing card for another solid crowd on hand that witnessed the excellent seven division racing card. The loyal Accord racing fans were offered the opportunity to go trackside and meet and greet with the talented driving roster of the speedway on camera and autograph night presented by United Pump and Tank located in Wallkill, New York.(www.unitedpumpandtank.com). Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer had the speedway grounds in its usual pristine condition and the outstanding track work prep of Gary Palmer presented the drivers with another fabulous racing surface that had the drivers in all divisions talking about it all night long through the interview sessions. ASI Trophies, who make up all of the great plaques for victory lane, presented the Checkered Flag Bonus. Even with the 45 minute delay for the Camera and Autograph session, the racing was completed before 11 PM.
The final outcome of the great evening of racing action found the "DC Express" Danny Creeden make a late charge to claim his third win of the season at Accord Speedway in the United Pump and Tank Modifieds. Chris Stevens raced to his first ever career win at Accord in the Healey Brothers Group Sportsman headliner. Jason Feinberg was spot on in recording his third win of the season in the Ruge's Performance Center Rookie Sportsman finale. "The Intimidator" Ray Tarantino shook off his recent back luck and scored his second win of the season in the Arkel Motors Pure Stock feature run. Samantha Muller made it seven wins for the season in the Want AD Digest All Star Slingshot feature. "The KF Flyer" Kenny Ferrier hammered down at the start of the United Pump and Tank Modified main event and led the first lap before yielding to Chad Loilodice who stayed out front through lap five. Ferrier took the lead back on lap six by outhustling his adversaries and took command of the point. Danny Creeden remained focused on those in front of him and one by one slipped past them and was riding in the runner-up slot. A restart late in the event allowed Creeden a shot at Ferrier and he made the most of it as he slipped past him with two laps to go. Creeden raced away to victory for his third win of the season. Ferrier had an outstanding run for for runner-up honors and "Iron" Mike Ricci nailed down third place. Brad Rothaupt and Scott Ferrier completed the top five. Matt Shultz put in a great run for runner-up honors with Chris Van Duser, Ryan McCartney, Kevin Stevens, John Dewitt and Jim Kraus following.
The Healey Brother's Group Sportsman feature event found Phil Goetchius grabbing the early lead. Goetchius had himself a fast hot rod and opened up a big advantage early on in the event. Chris Stevens and eight time winner Jimmy Wells had their own battle royal going and kept inching closer to Goetchius as the laps clicked off. The three drivers were racing together at the five to go sign and Stevens quickly moved to the inside of Goetchius as they hit turn one and Stevens became the new leader out of turn two. Wels also slipped past Goetchius and set sail for Stevens but it would be Chris Stevens securing his first ever win at the speedway. Wells was the runner-up for the second week in a row while Goetchius was third in a great effort, Nick Plumstead was fourth and Brandon McGill completed the top five. Collin DuBois, Corey Cormier, Kevin Ward, Ralph Ronk and Leo Fotopolous completed the top ten.
The Ruge's GM Parts Center NEWS Sprint feature had Brody Adamsky hustling to the point at the start of the event and he withstood a stiff challenge from "Little" Richard Smith and Larry Ricci late in the event to record his fourth win of the season at Accord. Smith, Ricci, Heidi Hedin and Jesse James Bartleson completed the top five.
