Jimmy Phelps started they day off strong in his heat race. “We were consistently decent all night,” mentioned Phelps. “We had a really tough heat and qualified well. We were able to put ourselves up against some really good cars. We were pretty competitive.”

Phelps finished third in his heat race, putting him in the redraw for the 100-lap main event.

After a pre-race redraw, Phelps rolled off fourth for the feature.

“In the feature we were just far enough off from first and second but I thought all in all we had a real good, consistent night. I feel that we have something good to work with.

Phelps took the momentum of a podium finish to Billy Decker and Matt Sheppard in the High Bank Holdup at Fulton Speedway for the first Super DIRTcar Series point’s race of the season.

Max McLaughlin lined up seventh in his heat race. “We were coming through the field in the heat and was up to fourth when we started to have engine troubles,” McLaughlin said.

After having motor problems in the heat race, McLaughlin and the crew pulled out their back up car. McLaughlin mentioned the car had yet to hit a racetrack before Saturday night.

McLaughlin struggled to come through in the consi with the backup car and was forced to take a provisional after missing the transfer.

“We had a good car,” McLaughlin said. “It was just tough to pass due to the track being rubber down and only having one caution. We started 28th and were able to drive through and finish 16th. We caught a tough break but I’m hoping for better luck at Bridgeport for the next Series race.”

The HBR team’s next race will be at Brewerton Speedway on Friday, May 5th for their season opener and Fulton Speedway on Saturday, May 6th.
