Danny Creeden Goes Topside To Capture Second Win In Exciting Accord Speedway Modified Headliner

Accord, NY- On a hot, muggy summer evening with quick storms hitting areas south of the track, the Accord Speedway somehow remained unscathed and reeled off an outstanding racing card for another solid crowd on hand that witnessed the excellent six division racing card. The loyal Accord racing fans were offered the opportunity to go trackside and meet and greet with the talented driving roster of the speedway on camera and autograph night presented by United Pump and Tank located in Wallkill, New York.(www.unitedpumpandtank.com). Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer had the speedway grounds in its usual pristine condition and the outstanding track work prep of Gary Palmer presented the drivers with another fabulous, tacky and very racy track surface that had the drivers in all divisions talking about it all night long through the interview sessions. A & M Hardware presented the Checkered Flag Bonus. Even with the 45 minute delay for the Camera and Autograph session, the racing was completed before 11 PM.

The final outcome of the great evening of racing action found the "DC Express" Danny Creeden seeking the outer reaches of the speedway as "he drove it where they weren't" to claim his second win of the season at Accord Speedway in the United Pump and Tank Modifieds. "The Little Rock" Matt Shultz raced to his first ever career win at Accord in the Arkel Motors Sportsman headliner. "The Jersey Force" Anthony Recchio was spot on in recording his fourth win of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman finale. Travis Brockner shook off his recent back luck at the speedway and proceeded to wire the field for his second win of the season in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature run. "The Cold Spring Kid" Jake Mason made it six wins for the season in the Want AD Digest Junior Slingshot feature. Jeremy "The Captain" Quick found the topside to be the quick side as he captured his initial win in 2017 in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car main event.

Joe Judge hammered down at the start of the United Pump and Tank Modified thirty lap main event and led the first dew laps while defending the flanks against Brian Malcolm and Kyle VanDuser. While Malcolm and VanDuser locked up in a dual, Judge stepped away from the field in a hurry. Earning some quality real estate at the top of the raceway, Creeden looked low then slid to the top of raceway as he found the fast seam and coming out of turn four slipped past both Malcolm and VanDuser to move into the runner-up slot. Judge had forged a huge lead, but Creeden was eating up the real estate quickly. As the leaders moved into slower traffic, Creeden stayed on top with Judge one lane lower and Creeden emerged as the leader on lap twelve. . before yielding to who stayed out front through lap five. Danny Creeden built up a commanding lead as he held the hot hand through the remainder of the event to claim win number at Accord for the 2017 racing season. Brad Rothaupt used some good moves off of the baseline to race into a runner-up finish with Danny Tyler coming from ninth starting place to finish third. Joe Judge and the returning Jerry Higbie completed the top five with Higbie coming from 14th starting position. Brian Malcolm headed up the second five with Richard Smith, Ed Dachenhausen, Jimmy Wells and Scott Ferrier following.

The WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman headliner found Jeff Higham leading the way for the first four laps of the event. After a mad scramble, a restart found John Miller taking over the lead for one lap before Anthony Recchio found the hot spot on the raceway to take over the point. Recchio would lead the remaining laps to race to his fourth win of the season in the division. Kevin Stevens raced to a solid runner-up finish with Higham nailing down third, Jared Miller fourth and John Miller completing the top five. Fred Smith headed up the second five with Hunter Lapp, Vinny Visconti, newcomer John Brown and Keith Johannessen finishing up the top ten.

The Arkel Motors Sportsman feature event found Matt Shultz grabbing up the early lead. Shultz had himself a fast hot rod but equally fast was Corey Cormier. With some restarts needed for some scrambles, the Shultz/Cormier battle was shaping up as a barn burner as Cormier was able to stick the nose of his race car under Shultz but could not make the winning pass as Shultz was running a near perfect race. The two remained close throughout the remainder of the event but it would be Shultz earning his first ever Accord Speedway over Cormier in another excellent Sportsman headliner. Cole Hentschel was third after stating ninth and Kyle Rohner made an exceptional run through the entire field to land in fourth place. Rich Ricci III completed the top five. The second five found Nick Johnson, the returning Danny Cross, Dave Demorest, Rafael Carson and Ralph Ronk following.

The WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint feature had last week's winner Larry McVay leading the first three laps until a mad skirmish found Brett Graham getting into McVay with Graham getting upside down and he and McVay both headed to the pits with damages. On the restart Jeremy Quick hustled to the point and took command of the event and he would lead the remaining laps to claim his first Accord Speedway win in some time. Eric Jennings, Tom Radivoy, Bob Tersillo, Heidi Hedin and Larry Ricci completed the field.

The Want AD Digest Junior Slingshot feature found Jake Mason returning to action and the young man dominated the action from start to finish to claim his sixth win of the season. Brock Pinkerous was second with newcomer Garrett Poland in third place.

The Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature found Travis Brockner jumping out front at the start of the event and it was just what he needed as he had to fight off the challenges of a very tough customer in Ray Tarantino to make his way to the WRWD Victory Lane. The win was number two for the season for Brockner. Tarantino was second in a strong run followed by Emerson Cargain Jr in third, John Hechinger fourth and Steve Williams fifth. Heading up the second five were the returning Livy Johnson, Craig Cuneo, Chris Kanuk, John Drake and James Goetchius.

GEMSTONES:

Promoter Gary Palmer offered up a great race track for the drivers as all four speed channels were utilized throughout the course of the evening and the drivers spoke highly of the track preparation.

Steve Lowitt and his United Pump and Tank group was the headline sponsor for the evening and enjoyed their time with the trackside presentations during camera and autograph night.

Heat races were run off quickly and Sportsman heat wins went to Matt Shultz, Tyler Johnston and Nick Plumstead. John Miller and Michael Corbin were victorious in the Rookie Sportsman qualifiers. Modified heats were claimed by Brad Rothaupt, Brian Malcolm and Ken Ferrier. Ray Tarantino and Emerson Cargain Jr claimed wins in the Pure Stock division heats. The Junior Slingshot heat was claimed by Jake Mason. Eric Jennings and Larry McVay captured the Sprint car heats.

New cars and drivers continue to add to the luster of the evening as the Sportsman ranks saw the addition of "Dynamite" Danny Cross and "The Tokyo Drift" Dana Carey. In the new Sprint Car Division, Larry Drake was a new addition to the field. John Brown was a new edition to the Rookie Sportsman ranks. Garrett Poland made his first start in the Junior Slingshots.

lane interviews and did his usual top-flight job.

The camera and autograph session went off without a hitch as the grandstands emptied out for the fans to have a chat or get an autograph or two from their favorite drivers. Announcer Steve Pados interviewed as many drivers as time was allotted and tried to make sure each division was covered.

August 4th is Emmanuel's Marketplace Night at Accord Speedway with all divisions racing and highlighted by the Ernie Beesmer Memorial Modified event paying $2,888.00 to win.
